If, after six months of trying to make their marriage succeed, she still wants to leave, he promises he will let her go. Sean is determined to convince Rivie that she can trust him to love her, no matter what. She is just as determined to keep her secret. Only one of them will succeed, but their love for each other could mean they will both win in the end.

This is a great story with emotional depth and struggle. It starts out delving readers right into an angsty, poignant situation. A love-struck man is searching for his wife and finds her, but she feels unworthy of him. One has to wonder why. Curiosity is stoked right from the start.

Rivie is a complex character, and the author has done a great job at making Rivie’s inner torment real. She has layers of tender feelings and a secretive past. She is so sad, readers will deeply sympathize with how injured she is, and her secret creates great suspense.

Sean is an interesting character as well, her opposite, and he has strong feelings for her. He is a bit assertive with his feelings, but she really enjoys it and finds comfort in his arms. Rivie and Sean marry fast, after a whirlwind romance. They are happy, but Rivie’s past interferes, and she leaves him.

The suspense deepens. Just what about her past is tearing her up so badly and causes her to leave a man she has fallen in love with?

Rivie’s musical partner, Rand, has his own secrets. He makes a good counterpoint to her. The wise brother figure, his interaction with the couple makes for some interesting situations.

Sean wants to make things work and asks for six months, but Rivie is really messed up inside. Readers are likely to root for him. He can only win if Rivie finds some personal healing, so his win would mean hers, as well. At times, there are possibilities of confusion for the reader, but nothing too distracting.

This is a real page turner, an emotional story filled with painful love, and an injured woman’s journey to peace and happiness. The author has done well with capturing this journey.

When her own life is threatened with a double dose of danger, Ruby begins to wonder if she’s being played for a fool. Luckily, she has Ophelia and Brandon—sibling black cats with a talent for tarot—and a feisty pit bull friend who all lend a paw in collaring the culprit before Ruby finds herself taking her final cat nap.

Abandoned and alone after their owner drowned, sibling felines Ophelia and Brandon are separated. When tarot reader Ruby Sparks walks into the shelter that day and discovers Ophelia, she has no idea what is about to enter her life. Her biggest worry is whether her half-sister will allow her to keep the cat when she returns. Little does she know that one cat will turn into two, and those two cats will lead her to murder.

Ruby Sparks is a great character. She’s both confident and not, knowing that she has the talent to read the cards but also knowing she’s not as skilled as her half-sister. This endeared her to me because she knew where she needed to improve and strove to do just that. Her love for her pit bull, Zuki, as well as her adopted cats, and even the roosters she saved from sacrifice, only made me like her more. Ruby is well-rounded and likable – the kind of person I would want as my friend. And if I were ever murdered? I’d hope she and her menagerie would help solve my case, too.

As for the animals, Ophelia was a bit overbearing at times, always thinking she had the answers. However, knowing how much she and Brandon loved the woman who had raised them from kittens, it’s understandable why she’d be so determined to solve her murder. Zuki was probably my favorite of the animals simply because she tried to be the voice of reason while also helping the cats do what needed to be done.

Fool’s Moon combines two of my favorite things into one cozy mystery: cats and tarot. I’m honestly a sucker for anything dealing with animals, kitties especially, but the addition of a tarot reading main character and I was hooked. I knew I had to read this book and I am so happy that I did. It was interesting to watch the investigation unfold as the animals helped guide Ruby to the truth. I appreciated that Ruby wasn’t made to seem incapable of making the connections herself, as can happen at times in cozies involving animal sleuths. Instead, Ophelia and her crew help lead Ruby towards the conclusions she already suspects. Although it took a little while to get to the actual mystery, Fool’s Moon was worth the wait.

Pranks and grief aren’t topics I’d ever think to mix together, so it was pleasantly surprising to see just how well they worked at creating an interesting and thought-provoking story. Sometimes it takes a while for someone to work through the shock stage of the five stages of grief. While there were a lot of different ways these pranks could have been interpreted, I liked the thought of looking at them through the perspective of characters who have endured such a terrible loss that they truly have no idea how to act or who they used to be before this death happened.

The ending was frustrating. After building up the tension beautifully for multiple scenes, the storytelling suddenly stopped without warning. To the best of my knowledge, this was not meant to be a serial, so I was confused by why the narrator never wrapped up all of the plot points she had been wrestling with since the beginning. It simply didn’t make sense to me.

By far the best parts of this story were the sections that showed how the death of Ian affected his parents and sisters. While they sadly had been expecting him to pass away due to reasons that I can’t get into without giving away spoilers, this didn’t do anything to relieve their overwhelming emotional pain after he died. These were definitely hard moments to read, but they also brought a lot of depth to the main characters.

I’d recommend Swift, Brutal Retaliation to anyone who has ever struggled with emotions they weren’t expecting to deal with after losing someone they loved.

Three facts about Tuckington Belle:

1. Given the choice between illegally scaling the royal castle’s walls to steal flowers for a client at his family’s dress shop or going on a date with a girl his brother set him up with (“He’s fertile, and he can sew!”), Tuck will scale the wall like a spider after a fly.

2. If, upon knocking himself unconscious when he falls off the wall, Tuck wakes up bruised, blindfolded, and inside the castle, where—based on the unearthly wails heard nightly—the prince no one has seen in ten years is probably a ghost, Tuck would still choose this over a date with a girl.

2. He can’t take his eyes off the injured thief recovering in the castle.

3. Friendships born from lying and insisting the other person wears a blindfold can blossom into true love—which he needs to break the curse.

“He’s young, employed, and fertile. And he can sew.” This is in the opening paragraph of this book. In a world that has both Twitter and mobile phones, we also see a fairy-tale world of princes, castles and curses.

With a cast of characters designed to make you smile, this is a fairy-tale of a story. The storyline is a simple one. Our prince gets cursed for moaning about himself, and shuts himself away from everyone, including his family. However, the way it is written, makes for a delightful time-out. The pacing is smooth, and the world is well-fleshed out. It did seem a bit strange reading about Twitter, but once I accepted it as part of the world, all was well. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow, and I finished this book with a huge smile on my face.

For a light-hearted fairy-tale romance, I can definitely recommend this story.

Even if his human is hiding secrets from him, Von’s determined to unearth all of the skeletons in Dario’s closet and slay all of Dario’s demons. Von’s willing to break all the rules because in the end, Dario will be his to claim.

Dario had decided to leave town in a big hurry when the local werewolf mob boss killed Dario’s older brother, Dennis. Having signed up for Perfect Match while drunk one night, Dario had previously been ducking the return calls insisting they’d found Dario his “perfect mate”. Dario was leery – presuming the company wanted to set him up with some rich shifter who wanted a human mate and preferred to pay for the privilege. Dario didn’t really believe any of this mate stuff – but he took having his brother murdered and his own neck on the line next very seriously. So Dario went to pretend for a while with Von Prince. Only it quickly becomes clear not much about their chemistry is pretend, and the trouble Dario was running from was more than capable of hunting him down and following him.

I found this to be an interesting and intense short story. While I wasn’t too much of a fan of the whole “insta-lust” feelings between Von and Dario, it’s hard to fault the author when really there wasn’t a whole lot of time for the two men to fall slowly in love and ease themselves into it. While I found their chemistry and sex super hot, it bugged me a little that Dario changed his mind very quickly from wanting to use Von’s penthouse as a safety net and hide-out – and keep his “relationship” with Von platonic and fake – and into pretty much forgetting everything except the desire and hunger he felt for Von. Dario had some legitimate, enormous problems on his plate – the death of his brother and having a shifter mob-boss out for his blood – and so mentally ditching all that and wanting to have endless sex with Von just felt like a little too big of a leap for me to follow in the span of a few pages.

I was really pleased though that the conflict with the mob-boss wasn’t left lagging – or shelved completely – and feel the author did a very good job juggling the threads of Von’s desire, the growing real relationship between Von and Dario and the danger from the villain. It helped give the book the feel to me of having multiple facets and not just being too heavily weighted towards the erotic shenanigans between Dario and Von. I also really enjoyed Von’s friend-cum-bodyguard, Marco, and would happily read a story about him if one appears in the future

With plenty of steamy sex and a tiny hint of rags-to-riches Cinderella fantasy thrown in, overall I found this to be an interesting and good read.

Every Sunday morning, no matter the weather, Eli could count on Zaida to bring bagels from Merv’s Bakery. Eli loved the time they spent together enjoying their favorite treats. Warm. Chewy. Salty, Eli thought. Bagels were the best thing about Sunday. But one Sunday, Zaida didn’t come. He had fallen at Merv’s and hurt his tuches, and the doctor said Zaida had to rest at home for two whole weeks. This meant Eli had no Sunday morning bagels. And neither did Zaida’s friends, who had been receiving their own weekly deliveries from Zaida. Will they all go hungry for bagels on Sunday? Or is there something Eli can do? Award-winning author Andrew Larsen’s picture book story offers a gently humorous take on the special bond between a boy and his grandfather and the simple ritual that looms so large in their lives. It also highlights a terrific character education lesson about how a young child can take responsibility and, with a little initiative, help a family member in need. With a blend of retro and contemporary styles, Sandy Nichols’s softly colored illustrations cleverly convey the story’s timelessness and capture Eli’s diverse neighborhood. This book will spark wonderful discussions about family traditions and community. A mini glossary and pronunciation guide for the Yiddish words that are sprinkled throughout the story (like mensch and oy) provides an opportunity to learn about the many words we use in English that come from other languages, and to explore the connections between culture and language.

The relationship between Eli and Zaida, his grandfather, was such a sweet one. Not only did they love each other quite a bit, they also enjoyed spending time together as buddies. It made me smile to see them try to figure out how to change their routines after Zaida was injured and couldn’t do the things he normally did with his grandson.

There was a pretty big plot hole in this story that none of the characters seemed to notice. As much as I liked watching Eli gradually come up with a plan to help his grandfather after the accident, I was distracted by the fact that no one was talking about the easier and more obvious solution to their problem. I would have chosen a much higher rating if this hadn’t happened.

One of the things I liked the most about this tale were the warm and friendly relationships Eli had obviously developed with everyone in his community. While he wasn’t biologically related to everyone who lived nearby, they did treat him like he was a member of their families. He was watched over and encouraged by all of the adults in his life no matter where he went or what he did. That strong sense of community and protectiveness over the youngest members of a society was such a lovely thing to read about.

I’d recommend The Bagel King to anyone who has developed a close bond with someone much older or younger than them or who wonders what this sort of relationship could be like.

It’s one thing to read about a character who is well-prepared for a zombie uprising, but I’d never thought about what would happen if the zombies planned ahead, too!

Ronald was a complex guy. I admired him for thinking things through so well before the events of the first scene happened. He was obviously someone who had put a lot of effort into planning for just about everything that could go wrong when zombies began to take over the world. This sharp attention to detail in other parts of his life sometimes irritated me, but I liked the fact that his flaw was such a practical and understandable one. If he were a real person, I’d expect him to behave exactly the way he did in this tale.

I would have liked to see more attention paid to the pacing of this story. While it was a short one, I did notice that there was a lot of variation in how quickly it moved from one scene to the next. Sometimes there was so much going on that I had a little trouble keeping up, while in other scenes Ronald didn’t seem to have quite enough to keep him busy considering the fact that he was in the middle of a zombiepocalypse of all things. A little more attention paid to this detail would have lead me to choosing a much higher rating.

With that being said, the ending was fabulous. Not only did it show off the main character’s longterm obsession with this specific type of monster, it featured something that I’ve never seen anyone else do in this genre. While I obviously can’t go into detail about the twist without giving away spoilers, I enjoyed being surprised by what Ronald was able to come up with when his future was looking bleak.

Preparations should be read by anyone who loves the zombie genre.

Is it possible to find the heart’s home twice in a lifetime?

Six years ago, Sawyer Burroughs’s life fell apart. His soul mate and husband of four years died of cancer, and he fell into depression… and a bottle. It’s taken six years, but he’s turned his life around and is ready to start again on the other side of the country.

In his new apartment, he’s welcomed by his young and carefree neighbor, Derek, from across the hall. Derek is eager to make Sawyer feel welcome and even offers him a place to stay when Sawyer arrives ahead of his furniture. The upstairs neighbors are just as friendly, and soon Sawyer finds a place with the friends-with-benefits threesome. He’s not the shy, vanilla lover they think he is, though, and he’s hiding more than a pair of nipple rings. As it happens, the guys have kinky secrets of their own, but for four men to make a BDSM relationship last, they’ll have to figure some things out.

Years after the death of his partner, Sawyer decides it’s time to start fresh somewhere else. He sells everything possible and moves half way across the country. He’d moved into an enormous old house that had been divided into four smaller apartments. His neighbors were friendly and even though Sawyer found himself shy in his new surroundings, Derek, Ben and Luke were all great guys and more than open to sharing some sexy pleasure. Can Sawyer find himself a real home for the second time?

This is a seriously smoking hot story. I love how the foursome seemed to come across as being quite natural – despite the complexities of the inner-workings of the relationship. While Derek and Sawyer definitely start off having their own chemistry I loved how it was clear Luke and Ben were certainly interested in Sawyer for his own merits and the somewhat casual threesome of Derek/Luke/Ben didn’t get rocked at all with the addition of Sawyer into their home and relationship. I feel this is definitely proof of the author’s excellent writing – as the whole situation didn’t come across as strange or stilted to me. It was easy, emotional and the chemistry and connections were definitely there and I personally found the whole thing completely believable.

While a story like this could have turned out to be totally about the sexy shenanigans going on between the four kinky boys living in the large house, I really loved how each character was shown to us and as a reader I could really get to know them. While there is absolutely plenty of fun, lighthearted – and kinky – sex going around, there’s delicious aspects of the men talking and getting to know each other, going about regular daily lives and doing things outside the bedroom. I felt this really lent a good balance to the story as a whole and made each man about more than just the sex and physical connection between them. While the plot *is* Derek, Ben, Luke and Sawyer all getting to know each other and working on their foursome relationship, there were plenty of chats, fun times and eating pizza together. They had that relationship and connection outside the bedroom as well as inside.

Sweet, sexy, hot and kinky, this is a great full length story and one I really enjoyed. The BDSM was strongly present throughout the story but not over the top. I loved how even though the characters were all at different stages (and needed different levels) of the BDSM lifestyle their love and affection for each other let them all share between themselves and support and help one another. Even with the complexities of their relationship/s and different levels of need this gave the overall story a really strongly romantic and warm feeling to my mind.

Sexy, spicy, fun and filled with laughter this was a really lovely full length story that I greatly enjoyed. I feel it would appeal to a wide range of readers and is absolutely worth checking out.

Considering the depth of hate and bitterness between Ben’s parents, Ben wasn’t willing to risk his heart – or life – on something he wasn’t absolutely sure about.

I enjoyed this lighthearted short story. Sexy and straight-forward, I found this to be a fun read. Ben and Isaiah are both interesting characters – Ben’s gifts in particular captured my imagination and attention. While there’s outwardly not a lot to the story – Ben’s reluctance to take a leap of faith when he can’t foreshadow his own happy ending – it still really made me think and imagine what it would be like if I could see something in relation to everyone around me but not see it for myself. It was an interesting conundrum and helped keep my attention on the story.

I feel the author did a good job working in Isaiah’s sister to highlight to Ben a few home truths about Isaiah’s feelings for Ben and how the status quo couldn’t be maintained too much longer, but I do feel that readers looking for a complicated or really dense plot might find this story a little light on. Personally, I enjoyed the lightness of the storyline and found it a happy and relaxing way to pass a rainy afternoon with some interesting characters, steamy M/M sex. The “what if” aspect to the plot was welcome too – what if people really could just “see” perfect matches and play cupid?
