Stephanie, Jackie and Caroline. The three women have been friends for years, and they’ve built themselves a nice bed and breakfast /ranch operation. But with less than a fortnight to Christmas, a ruthless banker has swindled them out of their beloved home. What will they do?

Well, kidnapping him and holding him hostage until he decides to do the right thing sounds like a good plan. Unfortunately, it all goes hilariously wrong when they discover they’ve kidnapped the wrong man. Bondage, obedience classes and more are needed to make sure there’s a Merry Christmas this year!

Caroline, Steph and Jackie had been swindled out of their ranch. Determined to get their property back they hatch the crazy plan to kidnap the jerk who stole it from them and force him to give it back. Only instead of Mr James Smithers, they end up kidnapping Mr Jebediah Smithers. And all too soon Jackie finds their crazy plan starting to unravel. How can they get their ranch and livelihoods back?

This short story starts off in a lighthearted, fun manner that really had me giggling. I had a bit of a wobble reading it near the middle – when the three ladies still didn’t truly believe they’d kidnapped the wrong man and tied him to the bed and Jackie starts touching him intimately. While the author wrote the story clearly showing they’d all end up on the same page and even hinted that Jebediah could escape his restraints should he choose to – it all just shaded just a little too close to a “forced seduction” type of scene for me to actually enjoy it. Readers who dislike kidnap/forced intimacy stories or find them to be a trigger should steer clear of this story. That said, even though Jackie didn’t seem to believe they’d made a mistake she and Jebediah sure managed to get hot and heavy pretty quickly – and both appeared to have a glorious time doing so.

Both Caroline and Steph watched the sexiness between Jackie and Jebediah, though neither of the other women joined in or even seemed to participate apart from watching. So personally I wouldn’t consider this a menage or group sex thing as such – but other readers might feel differently. The sex was hotly written and especially as the sex scene progressed it was clear both Jackie and Jebediah got more and more invested in each other as they became more intimate.

While the author made it clear to the readers that they shouldn’t feel even a speck of sympathy for James Smithers, I also couldn’t help but feel bad at the depths the women sank to in the effort of getting their ranch back. While I genuinely understood how desperate they were, I still felt their actions reflected a bit poorly on them and the strength of their characters. Obviously this short story was all meant in good fun, but I could understand if some readers are a lot more invested in the relationship flourishing between Jackie and Jebediah and a little less taken by the plot and lengths the three friends go to, to get their ranch back in their hands.

A very different and interesting type of Christmas short story, this is certainly a new plot twist that I’ve never read before. Fresh and unique, it certainly made me think and start a few discuss with other reading friends.

Kristin Marsh landed her dream job with Bosk Entertainment as a CPA. She had everything she could really ask for and then some. However, when her mysterious boss calls her into his office to sign a confidentiality agreement, she didn’t know what to expect.

Micah Bosk was know for his strict ways in the boardroom, but this dominant man dabbled in the kinky lifestyle associated with bondage. It lead him to purchasing The Black Rose, a hot spot fetish club in the heart of Denver. But when the smart businessman looks over the books, he discovers the numbers simply don’t add up.

Micah seeks Kristin’s help with his financials and slowly introduces the good girl into his kinky world. She’s sexy and strong, perfect for what he wants in a sub, but she has reservations about a no-strings affair with her boss. He can show her the naughty pleasures he enjoys but will her need for commitment be a deal breaker?

All the ingredients for a smoking hot kinky read: a contract, burn the cover off chemistry and a BDSM club.

While the plot of Seduced by the CEO wasn’t new, it was the characters that won me. They were different. “Draw me in and hold me captive to the story” different.

When Micah finds that the accounts for the BDSM club that he owns don’t add up, he calls on the one person who can surely find the cause. But can she handle his needs?

When Kristin gets a contract from her boss, demanding ultimate secrecy and discretion, she signs it without a second thought. What she comes to realize about her boss, and herself, is an eye-opening surprise.

The story flows well and the characters were well developed. The story kept me interested to the very end. This is a character driven story and the author kept them in the forefront with snappy dialogue and hot chemistry.

The ending indicated that there may be a second book. It wasn’t what I expected. While I’m not personally a fan of suspense and waiting, sometimes I find a series worth waiting for.

Excellent read with more than a few pleasant surprises.

On a lush, secluded island, one passionate adventure leads to another….
Diana Fletcher means business. The beautiful, innocent, reverend’s daughter has traveled all the way to a tropical island off Madagascar on a mission: To find her brother—and to punish the man who drove him to a life of piracy. But when she comes face to face with the enemy in question, the handsome, powerfully seductive man is not at all what Diana expected…

Tristan Kent never intended to harm Diana’s brother. A man of humble origins, Tristan claims he tried to save him from another ruthless captain. Diana is desperate to believe he is telling the truth…and that the intoxicating desire that escalates between them is true as well. But can she trust him? Or is Tristan’s story—and his heart—nothing more than fool’s gold? Amid the haze of sensual delights and soaring ecstasy Tristan has in store for her, all will be revealed…

Pirates, plantations, exotic locales, seduction and sensual delights are all in store for a reader in Ms. Donahue’s latest historical, First Comes Desire.

The premise of a sister looking for her brother and willing to do what needs to be done at all costs is a noble introduction to the conflict. Diana’s surprise comes from underestimating a pirate, especially if he’s highly intelligent, cunning, canny and astonishingly handsome. Tristan is all that plus more. The fact that he disconcerts, flusters and unnerves her makes Diana all the more determined to see Tristan hang for abducting her little brother. The fun comes from the hero’s point of view. Diana has no idea what plans he has for her and the lengths he’ll go to seduce her but, as a reader is seeing into both their heads, the outcome is quite apparent. The heroine is about to be delightfully and thoroughly compromised in a way only a pirate can get away with.

Erotic romance readers will find the usual array of sensual attacks on Diana’s senses effective, titillating and well written. There is some light bondage but I don’t classify it as BDSM, it’s just Tristan being a pirate and subduing the heroine’s feisty, contrary behavior. He utilizes every part of Diana’s body in an erotic attack that leaves the heroine breathless and awakened and aware of her body as never before. Readers know once that happens, once passion is unleashed, there’s no going back. Get ready to be satisfied.

Now comes the tough part, explaining the difference between me, a long time romance reader, and a newbie just dipping their toes into erotic romance. For new readers, this book should be a solid winner because it covers a favorite topic – pirates. It allows a woman to feel okay with a dominate man who does forceful and decadent things to get his way just because he is a pirate. The Dom/Sub aspect is definitely there even though this isn’t that kind of subgenre; it’s just Tristan’s nature to want to subdue a worthy opponent but wanting something far more, her trust and willingness to concede. There is an exciting conflict and a suspenseful, action filled conclusion that had a surprising resolution for some of the combatants. All of that works. However, from my perspective, I was disappointed because I recognized every pirate trope I’ve ever read crammed into this novel. I knew what was going to happen and who was going to cause trouble and how it was going to play out and a general idea as to who would get their comeuppance and even how it would happen just because of how those characters were written. In that, the book was predictable, formulaic and a trial to get through and I was disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, this novel is very well written and put together, and the erotic scenes definitely worked, but I’m too jaded by years of reading to be surprised at any of the plot/conflict points explored here because I had the feeling of been there/read that, and bought the book one too many times to get amazed by the turn of events. So please take this paragraph as an endorsement for fresh new eyes to the romance genre because I think they’ll enjoy First Comes Desire tremendously. For readers like me, unless you have a craving for manly pirates, and are in the mood for a predictable format, this might be a nice bit of sexy escapism to pass the time with but doesn’t come with any intriguing twists, shocks or unusual kinks.

All that being said, the author took some time to write a lengthy, meaty plot to couch the sex within and I found that to be a strong plus for this novel. I also appreciated how Diana had to come to grips with all the changes in her little brother, who wasn’t little any longer. I liked the solid friendship between Tristan and his friend, James. I also think that the author did an excellent job of depicted the pirates as nasty villains and effective stirrers of the plot conflict. Ms. Donahue convinced me that they were decidedly distasteful beings.

On the whole, First Comes Desire has a lot to offer readers who adore saucy, virile pirate heroes who lust after women who eventually bring out the noble men inside of them, much to their astonishment and consternation. Diana smooths Tristan’s rough edges as much as he unleashes the sensual, wild and passionate woman inside of her. The two of them are good together and the novel does conclude with a satisfying happy-ever-after that ties into the book’s title quite cleverly. I suspect a lot of readers are going to really enjoy this story and be happy they read it.

Revenge or love…either choice will sacrifice her freedom.

Dance teacher Jeanette MacArthur has one thing on her mind when she auditions for a job at La Masquerade—revenge. She couldn’t protect her sister from the criminals she now seeks employment with, but she can ensure that justice prevails.

If only her body wouldn’t melt at the touch of one of them. Ty Mason, second-hand man of the Cleaners, oozes dominance, aggression, and danger. He stands for everything she ought to despise, yet this unwanted attraction threatens to ruin her.

Ty can’t take his eyes off the new dancer, not least because he senses the threat she represents. Only one thing for it—claim her for his own, and torture the secrets out of her—if need be.

Her unwilling submission, however, means he discovers more than her secrets. His heart and their future are on the line.

Love, Hate and Revenge.

When Jeanette, a former dance teacher, steps into La Masquerade as a dancer, she thought she knew all she needed to know. She had a plan. No matter what else happens, she would get revenge for the death of her sister.

What happens after she auditions was not what she ever expected and it tested her at every step. It even made her question the relationship she thought she had with her sister.

Upfront disclosure, I haven’t read the first book in this series. I love a series where each book can be read as a standalone while a common thread or reoccurring characters tie the series together. His To Punish has all the right elements to make it as a standalone. Readers new to the BDSM genre should be aware that it also has a variety of things that may not be what a first time reader of erotic romance is expecting. That being said this book and the plot showed the characters every facet, good, bad, everything.

The chemistry between Jeanette and Ty was hot and sizzling and the passion was brought out more with every chapter I read.

As second in command of the Cleaners, Ty is full on Dominant with a capital D. I love everything about the story but was a little surprised at how quickly Jeanette embraces becoming a submissive. The author may have felt rushed to get beyond that aspect of the relationship, the push/pull of a new submissive, to develop the rest of the plot and build on Ty and Jeanette’s HEA. The story doesn’t lag but moves quickly and kept my attention.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this book. It has love, family, and just the right amount of sizzling chemistry.

It’s the choice of her life—submit or die.

When Susie Elliot stumbles into the middle of a clean-up, undertaken by none other than Ellis Reynolds, she expects her life to be over. No one disturbs this ruthlessly efficient killer and lives to tell the tale.

The man they call Ren has no time for tender feelings, but there is something about the curvaceous redhead that calls to him. Rather than killing her he claims her as his prize. One night should be more than enough time to get her out of his system. However, Susie’s submission means Ren has to confront emotions, completely alien to him. Killing is easy. This relationship thing is fraught with problems.

When his criminal activities catch up with him, loyalties are tested to the max, and Susie has another choice to make—walk away, or stay and accept the darkness within.

The first two things that caught my eye about Doris O’Connor’s latest release, His Prize, was the blurb and the super sexy cover. I knew from the start that this was a dark romance, so I was expecting a hero that wasn’t too nice and some possible scenes where I’d cringe.

O’Connor didn’t disappointment. His Prize is dark, but not to the point of unpleasant.

The hero, Ren, was even in his role as a killer, appealing. He was rough, mean, and yet, strangely sexy.

Susie was twenty years younger than Ren and though she was not a bad heroine, she could have been better. Her naivety tended toward nerve grating at times. Also, the fact that she fell in love with the hero so fast (mere hours after meeting him) because she submitted to him so easily made her attempts at having a backbone a bit pointless. I did like the fact that she was a voluptuous young woman.

There is no doubt that Doris O’Connor knows how to write sex. The relationship between the characters was sexually scorching. Their chemistry is off the charts. However, just as this was great, I did miss a stronger emotional connection between Ren and Susie. O’Connor tells us that the characters are in love, (Susie even mentions that Ren is tender with her and we glimpse some of that in the story), but it would have been nicer to read how the relationship developed. In the end, I felt that they were united by sexual drive and not so much by emotions.

Finally, I particularly enjoyed the nail biting twist near the end. It came unexpectedly, and for a moment, I doubted about how it would play out.

His Prize, was a short, enjoyable, extremely hot, dark romance read. I’ll definitely be looking forward to some more books in the series.

Come to Rainbow Island, where all your sexual fantasies will come true.

In Three Wishes, James, Guard and Damien, bring in three different couples for their special fantasy granting services. Handsome model Benji is tired of being perfect, and he wants to make his body his own. Thor, tattoo artist and piercer, as well as Dom, is just the man to do it. Will Benji find what he’s looking for?

Meanwhile, Alan and Roman are a long-time sub/Dom couple looking to have a few outside Masters give Alan all the things that Roman can’t. Will their relationship survive Alan’s strong reaction to one of the Masters?

The last couple to visit the island are Quinn and Pierce. Quinn has medical fetishes he’s embarrassed to tell his lover Pierce about even though Pierce is a doctor. So he’s going to get it out of his system in this safe environment. At least that’s the plan…

Don’t miss out on these fantasies come true.

Wow. I really loved this book! With four main plots threading delicately together this has plenty going on. It’s a testament to Mr. Michael’s writing skills though that no couple/group gets either overlooked or dwelled on too long. I found the pacing of both the story and the relationships between the couples/groups to be amazing.

Guard, Damien and James run a small island resort for a very select clientele – they allow their clients a safe and welcoming environment where their deepest sexual fantasies can come true. The three men have also been in a ménage relationship until James was hurt. I loved how even though they, themselves aren’t their own clients – their fantasy of getting back together and starting fresh was also clearly one of the longer-term plot arcs. Guard and James are the first characters we’re introduced to – setting up the various fantasies that are about to take place – and I was immediately drawn into their story, curious at the threesome breaking up but also eager for their reunion since it’s so obvious their love is still strong.

There is effectively three proper short stories going on in this book – as well as Guard, Damien and James as a peripheral storyline. Thor and Benji explore a fantasy of body modifications (piercings and tattoos) as well as aspects of the BDSM lifestyle, then Alan and Roman explore voyeurism – Alan submitting while Roman watches – and finally Quinn and Pierce explore Quinn’s medical fantasies together.

While I don’t personally feel there was any “forced seduction” in these fantasties, in a few places the story was being told from the Dom’s perspective. In two instances the Dom/sub pairings were brand new – only having known each other for their time on the island/resort – so the reluctance shown by the subs could potentially be construed as “forced seduction”. There was always safewords though, and never any play rough enough that I felt bordered on abuse – but there is a very fine line between being truly forcing someone and one partner being reluctant in a safe scene. Personally – I feel with the safewords and genuine care shown between all the partners this shouldn’t be on the wrong side of that line, but some of the scenes are quite heavy/emotional and without knowing for a fact the sub is loving every second (ie being told from their point of view) I felt this was worth mentioning. Readers should also know that there is a knife play scene (sensations from the knife – not playing with the blood or full-on harm occurring), and a few medical examination style scenes (sounds, enemas and the like).

All up while there is plenty of fantasy-come-to-life scenes that might push various buttons, I found everything was written in good taste and as sensually as any more regular kinky, erotic story. I particularly enjoyed the characters and loved the different dynamics between couples both brand new and more established. While there might be triggers or parts of scenes that some readers might not find too erotic, I feel this is an excellent book to showcase some of the rarer kinks in a tasteful and safe environment. And just as the icing on the cake – all the fantasy plotlines were resolved with very happy and satisfied endings. There’s also clear hooks for both the next story and for the continuing relationship between Damien, James and Guard. I really enjoyed this and would strongly recommend it if readers are curious about “non-standard” types of kink. A lovely read.

But there’s also a hedonistic wanton hiding beneath the surface of the detached sub, and Jarvis aches to be the one who sets him free. After waiting for a year to crack Garson’s carefully controlled surface, Jarvis conceives of a plan.

Garson knows he shouldn’t give in to Jarvis’ proposition that they spend an evening getting to know each other, but the reward of unlimited time in Jarvis’ dungeon is much too tempting. Or is it actually Jarvis who’s the most tempting thing of all?

‘Tagging Mackenzie’ by L. M. Somerton

Achieving a Dom’s undivided attention can have unpredictable consequences.

Steele Denton’s business doing custom paint jobs for fast bikes is booming. He’s in demand and has a reputation for being a perfectionist. Tattooed and intimidating, Steele is also in demand as a Dom at his local BDSM club, Chain of Thorns. He requires perfect submission from any sub he deigns to play with.

Mackenzie Soames is desperate for Steele to notice him, but might as well be invisible. He has no idea how to get invited into the VIP members’ area that Steele rarely strays from, so he concocts a plan to get Steele’s attention. Kenzie is a talented graffiti artist with a secret identity, known only by his tag, a pair of handcuffs. He spray-paints a BDSM scene on a wall at the side of Steele’s workshop, hoping Steele will see the security footage and track him down. However, Steele is working late and catches him in the act.

Steele recognises Kenzie from the club and demands twenty-four hours of sexual slavery as penance for the graffiti. Kenzie has no choice but to agree and soon discovers that being Steele’s sub will either make him or break him.

Bad ideas can sometimes be the best!

Roughneck Riders are not an MC club you mess with, least of all their rough and tough gang leader Heavy. But Heavy has a secret that has to be kept, no matter what—his heart belongs to a man. It shouldn’t. He’s supposed to be into women, like the other guys in the club. Junk is just too cute to resist, though. Add in his delectable body, his sweet submission and his willingness to accept Heavy’s sadism, and the couple are a perfect match.

Junk’s a probie, proving his worth to the club and demonstrating his mechanical know-how. He’s lived on the edge for a long time, flitting from one place to the next. But now that he’s settling in as a Roughneck, life is looking up. Not least because he’s in love—soul-eating, cock-thickening obsessive love. He can’t tell anyone about his desire for Heavy, but what he can do is push his lover’s buttons, all day, in full view of everyone, until he’s damned sure the night will bring a whole host of sinful delights and wicked punishments that will leave him marked, bruised and most of all, wholly satisfied.

Time Out – by Sean Michael
Val and Chaz had broken up and even after a few months Val still felt grumpy and sour. He was sick of himself and ready for a fresh start. Deciding time away would be best he agrees to his friends’ offer of some time in his vacation home. Only Val discovers Chaz is there. Can they try once more to make things work?

I really enjoyed this story and feel that Mr Michael did an amazing job balancing it out. Chaz and Val have broken up because they each felt betrayed by the other – for different reasons. While they’ve both tried to move on, they still love each other deeply and want to reconcile but aren’t exactly sure how to do it when their feelings of betrayal still linger. I loved just what an excellent balance there is to this story. The problems are genuine – not wishy-washy or silly plot devices merely to create tension – but they’re also not insurmountable. I didn’t feel like one party had to cave in to the other or make an about face just to get back together. They each had to work at rebuilding their relationship – there wasn’t some easy “magical” answer to them get back together either. I found it well paced and really well thought out.

This was some excellent, emotional and strong writing that I really admired. Add in very kinky, steamy hot sex and a happy ending and I know this is a short story I will be rereading over again.

Strict Consequences – by Morticia Knight
After a rotten day at work Garson needed the focus a hardcore session at Club Consequence usually gives him. About to leave when he finds there’s no rooms free, Garson falls into conversation with his favourite Dom, Jarvis. Jarvis has an alternative plan that threatens Garson’s careful routine. Is his desire deep enough to let go and trust the strict Dom?

This is a great story and I loved both Garson and Jarvis’ characters. Garson is a creature of routine – something I could empathise with. He’s taken great pains to structure his life exactly how he needs it, to protect his heart. Jarvis is clearly drawn to the sub and is determined to show Garson that rules were made to be broken. The chemistry between the two was smoldering and I loved the give and take between them. I loved how the author showed us step-by-step how Jarvis not only broke down each of Garson’s walls, but led him exactly where they both wanted and needed to be. It was a beautiful thing to read and I loved every moment of it. The happy ending was like the icing on the cake. Perfect.

Tagging Mackenzie – by L.M. Somerton
Kenzie is seriously in lust with Dom Steele Denton, but the strict Dom seems to have no interest in him at all. Deflated, Kenzie leaves the club unfulfilled and decides to indulge in his only other passion – tagging. Steele is determined to make Kenzie his, but has been holding back, unsure if the slender, tender man really has the backbone to fulfill Steele’s deep needs. When Steele catches the man tagging his business, Steele has the perfect opportunity to put them both to the test.

I found this to be a fun and lighthearted story. I loved Kenzie’s reckless tagger side – and could easily understand how the addiction to that thrill meshed with his addiction to submission. Steele was a strong Dom, and I thought the two men were very well suited. Steele was wickedly creative when it came to making do without a playroom – I doubt I’ll ever look at a mechanic’s garage in quite the same way again! I was only pulled away from enjoying the story a few times by small niggles that didn’t appear too realistic – how many men keep floggers or dildo-like devices in the drawers scattered around their workplace without being caught and teased mercilessly by their co-workers? – but overall they were small things when compared to the steamy, sexual chemistry burning off the pages.

A smoking hot, deliciously naughty read.

Bad Idea – by Lily Harlem
Heavy is the leader of a bikers group, Junk one of his riders. The two men might have to hide their attraction, their relationship, but that doesn’t mean they can’t indulge in their very kinky desires whenever possible.

This is a hard but hot and kinky short story. I really appreciated how the chapters switched from Heavy’s point of view to Junk’s – it allowed me to understand both men’s motivations clearly and follow the story seamlessly. It’s written in the first person, but blends so well I still enjoyed the flow and didn’t lose a step. There’s a Happy For Now ending, but I felt it was perfect and realistic with the characters and their situation. Steamy hot and deliciously kinky, this was a lovely read.

Safeword – by Samantha Cayto
Carter is in an abusive relationship, his Master loaning him out to help cement his business deals. While unwilling, Carter knows he can’t escape and has accepted this as the price of living life on his own terms, as a gay submissive man. Given over to Crow for two days, Carter is initially scared of the large, gravelly Dom. Can Crow gain Carter’s trust and show him what it really means to be a sub?

While unwilling with his Master passing him around, Carter does sortof choose to remain in the abusive situation he’s found himself in. I found this aspect at the start of the story a little murky. Carter doesn’t actively try to escape – but he does inform the reader that they’re on an isolated island, too far from the mainland to swim and he can’t drive a boat. While it’s clear Carter is resigned to his current lot in life, I feel this definitely fits many of the aspects of “Forced Seduction” or an unwillingness to the rules of their Master/slave relationship. This might be a trigger or no-go area for some readers. I found it pulled my heartstrings, but wasn’t so brutal or explicitly described that it turned me off, but at the same time it really pushed my boundaries and I can’t admit to liking that part of the storyline.

Having said that: the situation changes for the better fairly promptly. Crow isn’t what he seems, nor is the situation the two men have found themselves in. It’s difficult to explain further without spoilers, but suffice to say while the threats and abuse are real, so too is the care that grows between Crow and Carter. While I’d describe this as quite a dark story, there’s definitely hope and light. A hopeful ending rounded things out perfectly for me. This definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but for readers who like a biting edge to their erotica this might be a delightful surprise.

Earning His Leathers – by S. Dora
Connor loves leather and is delighted to find a small leather shop on one of his walks. But Connor wants to earn his right to wear them, and when he’s directed by the store’s owner to a certain building, Connor can’t resist the temptation to really give it a try. What he finds with Stone Carver is so very much more than he ever could have expected.

I really enjoyed this story – it’s a very different look on the story of how a Master can come to be a Dom/Master. I was intrigued by Connor’s character from the start, and although his attitude to the BDSM lifestyle was a little different I found it really interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed following along as Connor and Stone trained together and found Connor’s mindset in particular interesting. I also liked the premise of the club and the manner in which it was set up and portrayed. While the ending felt rather rushed and a little unrealistic (I don’t believe anyone can learn everything in hardly a day…) I did enjoy the reflective, almost philosophical leaning to the plot and interactions and that made me not only think harder on BDSM as a whole – but also the subtleties and interactions between a Dom and his sub that have rarely crossed my mind.

This story made me really sit back and think, to analyse the relationships and turn things around in my head. I found it delightfully refreshing and novel. While there’s not as much sex (or explicit kink) as your average BDSM story there’s still plenty of action, but it’s the discussions, learning and thought processes that I found most riveting in this story. A great read and completely different from any other BDSM story that I’ve read before. Lovely.

When calendar boy Zac, arrives from an interstate fire station to join the Gold Coast crew, the heat in the firehouse turns up to melting and the hot man he desires is just waiting for a bad boy to dominate.

These boys are guaranteed to melt the screen while they put out fires.

I love a good male-male story. Sexy, fun and engaging. This is one of those stories, but there is so much more to the tale than just sex. Zac and Ryan are white hot, especially when they get together and I had to know what would happen for these two guys. I raced through the book and wanted more when I finished.

There were a few things that held up my enjoyment of the story. While I liked Ryan and Zac, the romance seemed rather quick. I know this is a short story and there are only so many words, but it felt like the development between them was a tad rushed. Another thing that could’ve been improved was the speed with which Ryan and Zac went from sex to the rougher stuff. Now it wasn’t as rough as it could be, but I wanted to see a tick more emotion behind it, especially with the things Zac had gone through. I had a hard time figuring Zac out. I liked that he was a player and free with his affections, but I wasn’t always sure how to take him. He did intrigue me, so kudos on that.

That said, the book still features a white hot storyline and while the characters are flawed, that’s what endeared them to me. If you’re looking for something with a little bite and a lot of heat, then this might be the book for you.

An agent for CAT, the Central Agency for Talents, Tegan Gibbs was a powerful sorcerer until she was attacked and her virginity stolen along with her powers. Now she’s a normal human being with a thirst for revenge. To discover and capture her attackers, she must work with the Earl of Derrington, the only man to ever stir the desires she so carefully kept tucked away. But he’s an ancient vampire, and while once his equal, she now has nothing. Or so she thinks.

Oliver Derrington aches to bring Tegan back to life and into his bed. What starts as a rescue quickly turns into a passionate affair. They set fire to the night, but with the differences between them, Oliver fears his time with Tegan is limited. Yet, he’ll fight to protect her—and to keep her.

Danger threatens from an unexpected quarter, and if they don’t stop those responsible for stealing power from other Talents, they won’t have a future—together or apart.

A traumatic sexual assault alters a Talent’s identity and sends her on a journey for justice, and exploration of the new life before her.

Trigger warning: Some retelling of prior rape and its effects on the heroine.

Teagan Gibbs is an esteem Talent using her years of training, and sexual restraint to bring others justice until a botch clean-up job leaves her in need of some justice of her own. The effects of her traumatic assault leave her physically and mentally scared, but it isn’t just the intrusion of her virgin body that changes her forever. The effects on her powers are instant and irreversible. As she seeks to prove who the culprit behind her demise is, she is paired with the wealthy, charming, and surprising warm Oliver Derrington (Cransfield). They’ve worked together before, but not like this. Together, they give all of themselves to discover who has committed such a crime against Teagan, knowing what its effects would be and why they would commit such a heartless act. What Teagan discovers along the way is a part of herself she was never allowed to unlock. With every turn, she is freed a little more. With every twist, she comes closer to the woman she was meant to be, for herself and for Oliver.

My initial feel of the book was discomfort with such a traumatic catalyst. I believe it is due to the others uncanny ability to tell the story without aggressive details poured onto themselves. Instead, the reader is instantly focused on Teagan and her ability to pragmatically address her assault. She is clear headed or at least as clear headed as one could be after therapy. She isn’t in denial about what the assault has done to her, and mourns in her own way. However, she is not helpless. She uses the skills she still maintains in her diminished capacity to ensure that she is an active participant in bringing herself closure. She is smart, driven, and accepting of the changes she must make for her new life. Teagan is also practical and often uncomfortable with her emotions. She doesn’t gush over anything. Her admissions are quiet and face value honest as she attempts to understand her new normal. In some cases her fear is palpable, but in others it’s as if she’s never known fear in her life.

Oliver Derrington is a bonus she couldn’t have predicted would be a part of her life again. He is her strongest ally, works to understand how best to help her, and gives her space when she needs it. He reads her well, of course. I appreciated seeing his internal fight as he battled with wanting to protect her but not overwhelm her. He’s the type of hero that will wait for your call, before rushing to your rescue. He isn’t intrusive, feels things much deeper and quicker than Teagan, and trusts her instincts.

In Last Enchantment, first comes attraction then sex then love. Yet, their experiences together are not cheapened to some casual ill-timed fling. Instead, the decision is thoughtfully made and humbly accepted. Language is sexy, provocative, but rarely vulgar. There is more plot than sex, but tension holds true to erotica with warming build up as a constant reminder the hero/heroine attraction. Mild cases of head hopping appear in highly emotional scenes, but mostly as a means to describe something the original POV would not be able to explain on their own. Otherwise, the writing is fluid and each word carefully chosen to properly build attachment to the characters and drive the plot forward. The climb to the climax runs a bit long (over halfway through the book), but it doesn’t fast forward into completion once there. Instead, the descent is a gracefully slope down into what happens next before coming to a satisfying end.

In all, Last Enchantment was more of a complex thrill ride than a sultry erotica for me. The slight differentiation did nothing to diminish my enjoyment of the author’s delicate writing and riveting twists. I smiled, I winced, my heart broke, and I cheered for the complicated win. So I wasn’t disappointed that Last Enchantment didn’t strike me to wake up my husband in the middle of the night for some moonlight and lovemaking. Sometimes, a blush and a squirm is just as sufficient and this was one of those times. I recommend Last Enchantment to any reader who enjoys sexy exploration, with layers of thick plot, and tender romance. A great book club choice as there were multiple points where I would have liked to discuss my theories on the assailant or just commiserate with someone about Oliver’s ability to be all things at once. If you aren’t in a book club, enjoy in total silence with a glass of your favorite wine. Might I suggest a sweet red?

After years of alcohol and promiscuous sex, Detective Eleanor Silver is not the cop or the person she wanted to be. New doors and new worlds open up when the murders of sexually dominant women, involved in the world of BDSM, lead her to Dr. Anderson Wells. A psychologist and sexual submissive, Anderson offers to be her guide. They soon find themselves exploring on more intimate levels. He sees in her, the strong and forceful woman he craves. She sees in him, a man strong enough to surrender control.

As he escorts her into the world of kink parties, leather corsets and safe words she flourishes, becoming the kind of woman she never dreamed. Even as they become closer, both as lovers and as Dominant and submissive, new murders and his own lie make Anderson a suspect and then the target of a cop looking to clear his own name.

Events and passions collide with bite marks, pretty underwear and murder in a world where cops may be killers and lovers may hold whips. Eleanor Silver has to let go of her pain to claim for herself the life she wants and risk everything to save the man she loves.

Floggers and paddles…oh my.

Some books really go down deep and keep you reading down to the last morsel and leave you hungering for more. Like…right now. Give it to me. That’s what Safe Words by Drury Jamison was for me. A murder mystery and an education on the BDSM lifestyle, this book was a journey into some of the lesser known angles of power exchanges and relationships and the pages just melted by.

Detective Eleanor Silver is a dominant woman struggling with a drinking problem in a world run by men. During a murder investigation of a Domme, she is introduced to Dr. Anderson Wells, a sexual submissive known as the Professor. He illuminates the mysterious world of BDSM and in showing Eleanor who she is, also takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride.

Men as sexual submissives are misunderstood. Eleanor had expected a shy and blushing man, not the capable person sitting in front of her at the local bar. Her tightly woven cage begins to unwind and Detective Silver finds herself in deeper than she ever imagined herself to be. There is everything kind of kink you can imagine all around her at the events and gatherings she attends.

The murders of dominant women continue and Silver has a lot on her plate. But one thing she has figured out. She no longer has the burning desire to drown out her life in drink. Instead, she thinks about Anderson constantly. This new hard and soft side of her is both illuminating and surprising but what she learns next will either save her or set her free. All at the soft whisper of a safe word.

I loved this book from beginning to end. The ugly parts and the pretty. The glamour and the underbelly. Drury Jamison shows us the world of submissive men and the vast rainbow of characters at any given BDSM event. Most novels I’ve read showcase the Dom, but not this one. This one glorifies strong women and the men behind them. It also shows the power struggle in some circumstances and just how real secrets can get in the cold light of day.

There was nothing I didn’t like about the book. The characters were rich, the scenes described beautifully and the interaction between the MC’s absolutely beautiful. Seeing Silver flourish and become the Domme as Anderson showed her what home meant was amazing and I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion. It also had cutting edge mystery that kept you guessing who the murderer was until the moment it was revealed. Wow….wow.

I want more of Detective Silver and her man Anderson and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to read this novel. Fans of Kallypso Masters, Sierra Cartwright and others that delve into the healing aspect of BDSM will adore this book.
