His plans don’t go quite the way he expects when he’s forced to prove his skills with a gun. Life has a way of using the unexpected to create the opportunity he hoped for but never saw coming.
I wasn’t sure I was going to like Kit when I first met him. He was drunk. That’s not the most appealing characteristic in a hero but I was intrigued by pistol packing Cora so I had good incentive to keep reading. Kit makes quite an impression on her as well but her background and the setting of this book makes her version of “hero” a lot different than mine so I didn’t rule him out as being redeemed in my eyes at some point.
One thing I did like is that the author moves the story along by not dragging out how quickly Wainwright discovers her secret. I was hoping it wasn’t going to draw out until the end of the book and be a final hurdle in their relationship. That would have been a little too predicable. By him discovering it sooner, he had the chance to use his knowledge to get to know her on his terms. Not exactly ethical for someone wearing a badge but certainly effective and entertaining.
Kit most definitely redeems himself from his first impression on Cora and myself when they finally become intimate. For someone who grew up around loose women and guns, Kit is surprisingly gentle and gentlemanly when he sets his mind to it. He’s also honorable. This was a hero I could cheer for.
The story has a few things that felt a little too convenient. The ranch house he inherits, one that’s been abandoned for a long time, has holes in the walls and critters but yet, she finds clothes in a trunk that fit them perfectly and don’t smell, clean, non-moth eaten linens for the bed, as well as a copper tub for two in the barn, Stuff like that was noticeable but for the most part I simply thought “well, that’s convenient” and moved on. The plot in and of itself and the character’s chemistry held the story together and kept my interest.
Also, former Sheriff Sidlow alluded to a secret that would make The Willows rich. I wanted to see if that thread would be left hanging or how it would tie into the rest of the story. It does get answered, though not as I expected, it’s a satisfactory conclusion.
His Most Wanted is a good historical western short. I ultimately liked both Kit and Cora because they’re honorable and try to think of the well being of others and protect the ones that are often overlooked and helpless no matter if it’s a prostitute, a town drunk or someone caught in a loveless marriage. The length is good and readers who enjoy a spicy historical should give this one a read.

He can set up his laptop, peruse good sport climbing spots and observe the blond barista he’s been pining over for a while. He imagines that the pretty boy has more offers than he knows what to do with, so it takes Diego time to work up the nerve to approach him.
Rich isn’t so sure about the rough looking Diego—even if he’s always thought he was hot—but once he decides to gives Diego a chance, there’s an immediate heat and connection that takes him by surprise. As they learn more about each other and try to find the way to a future together, strange and scary things start to happen.
It isn’t until Rich is injured in a bizarre accident that it becomes clear that there’s someone out there who not only doesn’t want Rich to find love—they want him dead.
It was just another quiet morning at the coffee shop, or so Rich thought. Then the dark, mysterious Diego walks in and changes everything for the better. That is, until Rich accidentally witnesses a murder on The Strip, triggering a series of coincidences that turn out to be much more than coincidental. They could possibly become extremely deadly… for both Rich and Diego. Can the handsome hunk from Search and Rescue keep his barista safe?
Rich is a sweet bundle of nerves. Living in a pigsty with two roommates, his innate need to be clean and orderly is severely challenged. His nearly neurotic need to be tidy is cute and quirky and made me grin sometimes. He’s very likable and the kind of guy I think I’d hang around with in real life. It did take me a minute to place him, however. It’s mentioned that he had a crush on Beau from Held Hostage and it had been downplayed pretty well in that book, so I had a hard time making the connection at first. But once I did, I remembered I liked him even three books back.
Diego is the complete opposite of Rich. Dark, swarthy, and rough looking, he works for Metro’s Search and Rescue department, saving climbers and boaters that get themselves into trouble. Looks are deceiving however, because despite his tough exterior, Diego is probably one of the sweetest and most considerate men in this series. He’s absolutely dedicated to Rich, both in keeping him happy as well as safe, which comes in handy near the middle of the book. They make a cute if unlikely couple.
Morticia Knight’s Sin City Uniforms series has become a favorite of mine, and Searching for Shelter was easily one of the best in the series. My one issue with this installment was that Rich and Diego went from acquaintances to forever-in-love a little too quickly. Although, they did spend a lot of time talking and hanging out, not just in the bedroom, so that helped a lot as far as the believability went. Despite the quickness of their love, they are an adorable couple and one that makes sense in the real world as well as in their fictional one. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for this group of guys next.

I have loved this series from book one and was both excited and sad when this book came out. Tek and Jamie have so much turmoil and love in their lives. Both men are strong and are much more than they think they are or can be. As they deal with the kidnapping they find men who are more than just friends but brothers. I loved seeing Tek and Jamie fight for their love and peace in their lives. No matter what happens the two men will always have each other and the love that they share. Not only do we get to see the relationship between these two grow even deeper but we also get to see all the other men and all the camaraderie between them. It was nice to visit with all the men from this series and see where their lives will lead them.
This story is full of emotions and takes you on a whirlwind of feelings as you read it. I was quickly lost in this last installment in the world of the Guards of Folsom. I hope that even though this may be the last book in the series I hope that it is not the last story we get about these wonderful men.

Edward Stark, a successful lawyer, is a man obsessed when it comes to Audrey. He buys her expensive gifts, attends every one of her stage performances, surprises her with romantic dinners, picnics, and drives in the country, and he can’t imagine why she isn’t as taken with him as he is with her.
An air of indifference flows easily from Audrey, especially when she sneaks away to join the fun at the neighborhood speakeasy, where Edward wonders why she’s ducked inside “as if she were just another bona fide flapper.”
Although not perfectly suited for each other, their relationship strengthens as this novella moves along at a nice pace. The story draws the reader into a natural understanding that Edward and the stage spotlight can never co-exist, and that’s no secret to Audrey. She’s known it all along. Edward is so perfect — few woman could want more, yet the pull of stardom may be too much for Audrey to refuse, and keeping both is not an option.
The characters are fairly well-developed for a short story, but the backstory reflections were choppy and felt incomplete, i.e., “I’m glad,” he said. Kiss. Kiss. “Sing for me.” Frankly, I’m not sure the flashbacks were needed at all. It seemed almost a waste of time. Instead, I would have preferred the space be dedicated to strengthening the historical elements of the story.
This is a nice quick read and is a standalone book, although it is my understanding that it is a prelude to this author’s debut novel, Return To Me.
If you’re looking for a flash of history in a romance novella, this is an enjoyable read.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about this series is seeing how Dick has matured over time. I’ve mentioned this in a previous review, but I especially enjoyed this character’s growth in this tale because of how long he’s been trying to change. Dick has come such a long way both personally and professionally since I first met him. His hard work started to pay off in the last instalment, but it really sped up in this one. I really loved seeing so many positive changes in this character’s life after getting to know him so well over the previous five books. This was especially true when it came to certain habits of his that he seemed to be growing tired of. It was so nice to see how he finally began to conquer them.
With that being said, there were a few times when the character development overshadowed Dick’s work. As much as I liked seeing so many examples of how the protagonist has changed, I would have preferred to see a little more time spent on the case he was working on instead. There was so much going on with the disappearances that I could have used another clue or two about what Dick was discovering and how he pieced it all together. His logic did make sense, but I would have given this tale a higher rating had I known more clearly how the main character was able to piece certain clues together.
The pacing was strong and steady from the first chapter to the last one. I stayed up late to finish the last thirty pages or so because I was so curious to see how everything would turn out. There simply wasn’t a good place to take a break and stop reading, and that’s a good thing! I definitely like getting this absorbed in a plot. It’s one of the reasons why I look forward to reading Mr. Grey’s stories so much.
While this can be read as a standalone novel, I would suggest starting withThe Butcher’s Son to anyone who is at all interested in following Dick’s adventures from the beginning.
The Bottle Ghosts kept me guessing until the end. I’d recommend it to anyone who is in the mood for a challenging mystery.

This was an interesting book that I enjoyed. Hazel and the Alien Biker is a light fantasy story. It’s a new genre to me and I liked it very much from beginning to end.
Reyvor was very kind to Hazel and her three girls. He took them in and offered security and it didn’t hurt that he and Hazel had such a strong connection. Reyvor was lonely but it wasn’t only that. Hazel and her girls gave him a family, which was something he had been missing and he genuinely cared for them. She felt guilty that she couldn’t provide for her kids but she put her pride aside and let Reyvor help them. She tried to deny her feelings for him but Reyvor was so patient and caring that she had to finally gave in and considered a permanent relationship with the sexy purple alien.
This was a very sexy fantasy romance. The story was well developed and had an easy pace even though it spans a relatively short time. I liked the writing style. I loved the characters and was intrigued by the world. I will probably read more books in this series. So I do recommend this one to Sci-Fi and Fantasy readers.

You never really know what your neighbors might do when no one else is around.
The main character in “Apartment 1A – Lucky” was an old woman nicknamed Lucky who has carried a terrible secret for decades. It took me a while to get into this story because of how often the narrator jumped from her dark memories of the past to the quiet life she was leading in the present. These time periods were often so jumbled up in her mind that I wasn’t sure what was going on or how I should interpret certain scenes. I wanted to understand them much better than I did, but they were often so blended together that I couldn’t tell where the past ended and the present began. With that being said, her eerily calm descriptions of the things she’d seen and done made me shudder. They were a chilling introduction to the horrors hidden inside all of these apartments.
“Apt. 1B – Bullet” was about a drug addict who kept discovering strange things happening to his skin. Sometimes he’d find a brand new tattoo when his drugs wore off and he woke up. At other times one of his existing tattoos would grow larger or develop details that it had never had before. The fast pace worked well with the subject matter of this plot, especially during the last few scenes when there was a lot of information to take in. I also liked how much attention the author paid to small details as he described what the main character was experiencing.
What scared me the most about “Apt. 1C – Click” was how coldly Colton described the women he had picked up. It was like he was talking about buying a new lamp instead of getting to know a fellow human being. Sometimes the most frightening thing of all is someone who is this detached from life. I was fascinated by how vividly this part of his personality was shared with the audience. It was exactly what the storyline needed in order to be as creepy as possible.
Is there such a thing as loving someone too much? In “Apt. 1D – Anniversary,” Marta and Benji have been happily married for many years and never want to be separated. Their response to the possibility of one of them dying and leaving the other one behind was as disturbing as it was fascinating. There were a few problems with the logic of it all that I would have liked to see more attention paid to, but it was still intriguing to see how Benji and Marta planned to solved this problem.
There were parts of Umbra’s relationship with her grandmother in “Apt. 1E – Umbra” that never made sense to me. As a child Umbra was sent to live with her grandmother after a tragedy. Based on certain things the grandmother eventually mentioned, though, it seemed odd that the grandmother would have ever agreed to take the girl in. While I was definitely spooked by the main plot, I spent much more time questioning this part of the tale than I would have liked to. It would have been helpful to have a longer explanation of why the main character ended up living with her grandmother as that decision was so important to all of the scenes that came after it.
I’d recommend Eidolon Avenue: The First Feast to anyone who likes their horror gory and visceral.
