Sometimes what you think you want and what you need are two very different things.

As a technical editor, Jeffrey Maddox deals with plenty of words, leaving him few to spare on people, except his baby sister. To keep Daisy from wrecking her newly rehabbed life by shacking up with her older, married lover Lonny, he impulsively texts Lonny’s wife, Karyn. And then meets her at a coffee shop on a snowy night, ostensibly to convince her to stay with her philandering husband.

But soon texting turns to sexting. After spending the night getting to know Karyn, Jeff wants something much more personal—Lonny’s wife. For himself.

Despite her misgivings about Jeff’s intentions, Karyn can’t fight their attraction. She’s still not divorced, though she knows there’s no way she’ll return to her husband. But maybe an amazing night of conversation—and even more amazing lovemaking—can lead to more than just one night of hot text.

Cari Quinn’s, Hot Text, is most certainly that, a very hot read. This is a story of two average, everyday normal people who meet under some unusual circumstances and then proceed to light the sheets on fire.

Jeff Maddox, the hero of this story, is a technical book editor, but also a meddlesome older brother with a bad attitude and a bit of a recluse. When Ms. Quinn first introduced this character, I wasn’t sure this guy was my idea of a hero. He’s been divorced twice, he’s sticking his nose in business he shouldn’t be and he’s got a foul mouth. Have no fear readers, he is all of these things but he is also a man with a tender heart, a sense of humor and he knows how to treat a lady. generic tadalafil But no, I won’t recommend you to anybody. Ms. Quinn does a marvelous job of getting into Jeff’s head and making her readers see him for the truly wonderful man he is.

Karyn James, the heroine of Hot Text, is a quirky preschool teacher with a passion for painting and peppermint lattes. The author allows her readers to bear witness to this character’s journey of self-discovery through Karyn’s thoughts and actions. I really liked Karyn because she is one of those characters readers can identify with. She’s an average woman facing some difficult times in her life but she isn’t really dealing with them; she feels broken and just can’t move on and find peace in her life.

Hot Text is a beautifully written character study of two people who are almost complete opposites yet seem destined to be together. The love scenes are exceptionally hot, with plenty of foreplay, believable dialogue and a little humor to keep it even more real. Ms. Quinn has outdone herself with this story of everyday average characters that discover each other and themselves.

Although Hot Text is a short story, it is the perfect length to curl up with on a lazy afternoon, with a pitcher of your favorite frozen drink — you are going to need it — and just enjoy!

Caitlyn, 15, a Paranormal, is on the run with her mom, trying to stay one step ahead of the ParaTroopers who would enslave her just like anyone who has powerful psychic abilities. Attempting to have somewhat of a normal life, Caitlyn and her mom hide in plain sight, living in a seedy hotel in a big city, where Caitlyn hopes to blend in by enrolling at the local high school. She secretly fights back against government oppression by blogging about equal rights for all Paras, protecting herself by signing them Teen Para.

When she discovers her long ago kidnapped brother Daniel at school she s elated, but is saddened to find he s controlled by the government ParaTroopers as a Para-slave.

As Para Cleansing Day nears, increasing numbers of Paras are turned in to the authorities and things grow tenser and more dangerous, especially at school. When a group robs a bank and threatens Normals, the shadow of guilt is cast on Teen Para. A killer, the Para Reaper, secretly goes hunting for Paras to drain the life out of them. Despite everything, Caitlyn befriends a Normal girl, Rachel, who is a Para sympathizer, and falls for a cute classmate, Alex, also a Normal, who always makes her feel so good whenever he is around. But it’s not safe for Paras to date Normals, and it would put Caitlyn in grave danger of being discovered.

When ParaTroopers crack down at school after several Paras are discovered, Caitlyn finds herself under increasing scrutiny. Fearing for Caitlyn, her mom is anxious to pack up and bolt, but Caitlyn’s growing attachments make her reluctant to leave. Will she evade capture, or will she be caught and turned into a Para Slave? And just who is trying to frame her? A tautly written, suspenseful thrill ride, Hunted will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Welcome to a world where you have to hide what you are; if they find out you have paranormal powers, they will make you a slave!

One of my worst nightmares is about hiding from someone trying to get me. I have them over and over again with different circumstances each time. That was why I had to request this book for review. And it certainly didn’t disappoint me.

She and her Mom are afraid he’s dead. He’s not, and that’s where their troubles begin…

This is an exciting, very busy story. Her new school has two normals in it she would like to befriend, but she instinctively knows (or at least believes) they would betray her. All normals fear her kind and it’s best if she just stays to herself. The author does not avoid issues that some might find offensive. Caitlyn’s love interest is black (she’s white) and her normal girlfriend is a lesbian. These issues don’t stand out and none of the main characters let this bother them, but you’re forewarned in case it’s an issue with you.

The conflict between Caitlyn and her brother Daniel is heartrending. It’s also deadly. She loves him, but he has become her enemy. And he’s not hesitant about hurting those she loves to get her power.

The author writes a strong story with an interesting theme. Why is it we always hate those who are different from us? And how could a world like the one portrayed in this story exist? Yet, it’s not beyond belief.

If you like fast moving stories with characters that face a lot of challenges, this is an excellent read for you. It’s geared for young adults, but I enjoyed the read. Why don’t you get a copy and see what you think?

Ms. Allyn plunges you in at the deep end with this story. When it opens we are introduced to Maggie and learn that she is setting a trap for Alec. When the story switches to his POV, you sense that Maggie will have a tough time staying angry and vengeful toward him for long. He’s sexy, borderline charming, very intriguing, and because of all these qualities you want to turn the page to see how this will play out.

Best thing I liked about this story was the dialogue and the secondary characters. The pacing was also just right for this length of book. The only thing that stopped me from thoroughly enjoying this tale was the language used for different body parts, for example “rod”. It had the feel of “purple prose” and was jarring and I think took the edge off the sexiness of this tale.

However, if you’re looking for something a little different than the usual boy meets girl type story, or if you enjoy books with characters who seem destined to be enemies for eternity, this might be a good pick for you.

However, when Wyatt Hansen stops at his usual table at The Blue Hyacinth on Valentine’s Day, Lara finds herself attracted to the lonely widower. On learning that Wyatt’s business is turning failing businesses into successful ones, she knows he’s the man to help her. She learns his line of work involves bringing businesses back from the brink of destruction and she asks if he’d be interested in helping hers.

While it’s often difficult to flesh out characters in a short story, author Irby has done a remarkable job of creating two hurting, but likable people who might be ready to take the next step forward. The faith aspect of the story fits well into who each character is; in fact it endears both of them to this reader. Though the plot is light, it comprises all the hopes and fears of a much longer book and made this reviewer wish it had gone on for many more pages.

Ms. Irby captured my attention with a strong story and believable characters. I felt Wyatt’s pain and his struggle to move forward with his life. I sympathized with Lara’s wariness after a long relationship with a man who couldn’t commit. Ms. Irby has created a winner.

Lycaon Moon: Veda has left the pack, rejecting its edicts, its laws and the lycan rituals. The last thing she wants in her life is an alpha wolf and since leaving the pack, she’s refused to run beneath the Lycaon Moon. Kane’s been gone for three years, but he’s back and determined to mate with Veda.

Lunar Eclipse: The pack elders order Violet Winter to choose a mate by the conclusion of the lunar eclipse. Violet wants to mate for love and in defiance of their edict seduces an unacceptable half-breed. Canon Ross is establishing his place in his mother’s pack until he’s seduced by a she-wolf, but the flames ignited aren’t easily extinguished and Canon refuses to be dismissed.

Mark of the Moon: The mark of the moon prophecy ordains that Ivy Ward must mate with the werewolf bearing a birthmark similar to the one she bears, a crescent shaped moon. Lodan Hunt bears the Mark, but there is far more to this prophecy than a preordained mate.

This is a delightful collection of wolf stories, and I was caught up in the world Ms McCall built here.

Shifters live by the rules of the pack. They follow their Alpha, whether they agree with the rules or not, or face being banished or alone. BJ McCall has written three stories of unusual shifters, wolves that go out of their way to flaunt the rules and live life on their own terms. Until they each come up against the one thing they can’t escape: their one true mate, one destined to love them and stand with them.

In Lycaon Moon, Veda Pearl has chosen to go her own way, refusing to run under the Lycaon Moon that lets her mate claim her. She wants no part of the pack or the mating process.

Passing for human, Veda is a bounty hunter, satisfied with life away from the pack. At least she was, until Kane came back into her life after being banished from the pack three years ago. Kane Ryland is as determined to claim Veda as she is to avoid being claimed. Can Kane win Veda’s heart and convince her to accept him?

In Lunar Eclipse, Violet Winters is determined to mate for love. When pack elders decree she must choose a mate before the end of the lunar eclipse. Violet rebels, and decides to choose the least acceptable prospect. She seduces a half-breed wolf, one trying to find acceptance with the pack his mother left years ago to marry a human. Canon Ross succumbs to Violet’s seduction, and decides to do the right thing by facing the elders who must decide both their fates. Can these two find love in spite of the way they met?

In Mark of the Moon, Ivy Ward is destined to mate with the wolf who bears the Mark of the Moon, a crescent shaped birthmark that matches the one she has. As a result, she was considered off limits in her hometown, even gaining the nickname Poison Ivy. She takes an extended vacation to California, where no one knows of her birthmark or the prophecy it involves. Lodan Hunt is participating in a grueling forty mile cross country race, a race he has won two years in a row, with the lead in this years competition. At least he leads until the sudden jolt of electricity up his spine and the enticing smell of she-wolf throws him off his stride. Once the race is over, he realizes the crescent moon birthmark he has is burning like fire. Ivy doesn’t understand why, after brushing the fur of one of the wolves racing past her, the birthmark that causes her so much frustration has begun to sting and burn. Can these two find each other, and fulfill the prophecy as they were meant to?

BJ McCall has a marvelous way with shifters, especially her werewolves. The characters in these three stories are all well crafted and finely detailed. Each has their own unique style and personality, and all are fun to meet and get to know. These each take place in different locales, but the world remains decidedly constant and interesting.

The three women are all strong, and as different as can be. Veda is strong and independent, choosing to ignore her wolf side as long as possible. Violet is soft and determined to mate and marry for love and no other reason. Ivy is ready for some fun in a strange place, where no one knows about her mark or the prophecy. But all three share some common traits. All are strong, sassy and determined to live life on their own terms, rather than be dictated to. I like that in all of Ms McCall’s books, and especially with these three women.

The men are all determined and ready to settle down. Kane is strong and refuses to give up on Veda. Canon wants to learn about his wolf side, but he also wants the woman he loves by his side while he learns. Lodan has always doubted the prophecy, until s twist of fate brings Ivy into his world. But all three will do whatever it takes to keep their mates in their lives. I like the determination Ms. McCall instills in her men, and that never give up attitude they all have.

I loved the brief glimpses into pack rules, laws and traditions as decided upon for this world, and I look forward to more in this world in the future. There is a happy ever after and two happy for now with future stories to come here. I recommend these for all shifter fans, but keep the fan on, and a supply of cold drinks, because like all of Ms McCall’s work, these can get hot.

When Major Aaron Bricewick is rescued from Afghanistan terrorists, he thinks the worst is over. But his personal journey is just beginning…

The first surprise is the amputation of one of his legs.

The second is the woman he left behind, now a widow with a 4-year-old son – and his new prosthetist (artificial limb maker).

He vows that losing his leg won’t derail his career. But maintaining his outward appearance as a got-it-together officer becomes increasingly difficult as he faces one personal demon after another – and sees his career aspirations slipping away. And though he has no intention of expanding his life to include a woman, his heart has other ideas – and he finds himself questioning the very foundation of his personal beliefs.

When violence – and unexpected redemption – touch his life again, Aaron must make a stand. Which will he choose: duty or love?

A man tormented by nightmares and the after affects of a capture, and a woman who has lost so much, but still feels blessed. These two amazing people have met and loved each other before, but now are brought face to face again. True Surrender is Aaron and Holly’s story, and along the way are some powerful scenarios and deep, emotional conflict that needs resolving.

Aaron Bricewick wakes up in a strange place after being imprisoned by terrorists. His memories are of bad, disturbing things and he can’t shake those feelings away. But Aaron is now home in America, free, and he’s in for a long ride ahead because he has to adapt to his new life.

A major in the Army, a man like Aaron is used to being independent, strong, and capable. Now he’s not so sure, and his desire to not allow anyone in to help deal with his pain is slowly eating away at him. My heart went out to this man, and though he’s only a character in a book, there are many men like him out in the real world that could be and possibly are going through the same thing that Aaron did. That’s what makes him such a character to relate to, and his strong emotions pulled me into this book and never let go.

Holly Rossiter is a widowed mother of a wonderful little boy. What Holly doesn’t expect when she goes into work one day is to come face to face with a man from her past, and have to deliver some startling news to him. She loved Aaron long ago, but their different paths in life caused the pair to drifted apart. What matters now is Holly is here for Aaron, and wants to see him through this difficult time. Not many could go through such a traumatic experience only to meet up again with someone they never thought he’d see again. This is a new beginning for Holly and Aaron, along with Holly’s young son, Nick.

True Surrender has an outstanding plot that holds on tightly to the readers emotions, strong characters that you won’t be able to forget, and intense situations that will either make or break it for this couple. It’s a contemporary romance with light inspirational aspects. Aaron must come to terms with life and God and accept what has become of him even thought he fails to understand why. And Holly, despite the things she’s lost, embraces life as a blessing. As light and dark join forces, it’s only a matter of time before love finds its way into their lives once again.

I enjoyed this book and was glad to be able to read it. The author takes a story that could be part of someone’s real life and keeps the reader engaged the whole while. Readers, if you’re looking for a sensual contemporary story to captivate you, then rush on out and get a copy of True Surrender, and I no time, you’ll surrender your heart to these inspiring characters.

HE’LL TAKE ANY MISSION, THE RISKIER THE BETTER…

The haunted eyes of pararescueman Hugh Franco should have been her first clue that deep pain roiled beneath the surface. But if Amelia couldn’t see the damage, how could she be expected to know he’d break her heart?

SHE’LL PROVE TO BE HIS BIGGEST RISK YET…

Amelia Bailey’s not the kind of girl who usually needs rescuing…but there are anything but usual circumstances.

Strong characters that never falter in their determination to serve “that others may live” make Hot Zone an adrenaline-pumping journey through hellish experiences and emotional upheavals.

Amelia Bailey, a tough, no-holds-barred county prosecutor, entombed under a collapsed hotel, tamps down hysteria and claustrophobia. By wiggling her arm through a small hole, she can touch thirteen-month-old Joshua, her adopted nephew whom she had told her brother and sister-in-law she would take care of. She vows to do whatever it takes to keep him alive until help arrives. The ensuing dangers that Amelia meets and overcomes are hair-raising, yet read as if they are late-breaking news.

Master Sergeant Hugh Franco, a pararescueman, truly does serve “that others may live”. He has found no other reason to live since the death of his wife and daughter. He seems to work at the most dangerous assigns as if they are getting him one day closer to joining them.

When his involvement with Amelia and Joshua doesn’t end when he rescues them from the rubble, Hugh has a personal battle to fight. He balks again and again at the long-dormant emotions coming alive and making him vulnerable, making him care, maybe even love. He is somewhat of a Superman at rescues, but afraid of caring emotions.

The earthquake demolished city, the looting and crimes, the human trafficking, the jungle dangers, and human depravity keep the reader in a breath-holding mode much of the time. Amelia, so out of her depth and dependent on Hugh, creates an anxiety that keeps the reader turning pages to see how in the world they escape the many perils.

The secondary characters like three-time divorced Major Liam McCabe and the rescue dog handler Rachel Flores should have a book all their own. Other characters that struggle with personal problems are Amelia’s brother Dr. Aiden Bailey and his nurse wife Lizabeth. They help save as many as they can in the make-shift hospital, as they look for and inquire about Amelia and Joshua in their down time from doing surgeries. But the family issue they much come to terms with threatens to derail their marriage.

Of course, the antagonists, especially the Guardian and crew are a despicable lot that ramps up the action to the max. How their twisted minds justify human trafficking is abhorrent.

The sex scenes to “decompress” and the sex scenes with love create a wrinkle in time. They help block out the horrors and terrors of that has happened. These scenes also enhance connections that help get the characters on the road back to normalcy and to a life with hope for happy-ever-afters.

Catherine Mann’s powerful writing style sweeps the reader into pulse-pounding dangers, gripping suspense, and spine-tingling passion. Moreover, she creates super heroes that send the heart racing. The women she creates have their share of flaws but are strong, intelligent, passionate and worthy of love. Hot Zone assails the senses, offers up an-off-beat sort of humor, and stirs emotions from the very depths of one’s being—a transporting read.

I loved her sarcastic wit and her determination to face her demons on her own terms, no matter the cost. I enjoyed watching as temptation lured her in and brought her to Zac’s side.

Zacchaeus ‘Zac’ Frost is handsome, sexy and hiding his own secret from Atria. He has been attracted to her, but kept his distance for eight years. But when she is in danger, all his instincts scream for him to claim her and protect her from impending trouble. I enjoyed watching Zac charm Atria, and show her he is more than capable of withstanding her fire. His sarcasm and wit is a good counterpoint to her attitude, and they soon discover they are perfect for each other.

This is a romance with bite, and a couple of serious twists along the way. The secondary characters are wonderful, and I hope to see more of Luc and the band in the future. I enjoyed the way Ms Slayer handled the overbearing Niccolo, and the twist with the drug-addled stalker was something I didn’t see coming.

I hope this is the beginning of a long and enjoyable ride with Megan Slayer’s stories. This may be her first book, but I believe she has a great future ahead of her.
