A duchess should be regal, aloof and the image of calm elegance. But those words have never applied to Mercy, Duchess of Romsey. A widow and mother of a young duke, Mercy is lonely and floundering to keep the estate afloat. When she discovers the existence of Leopold Randall, her husband’s estranged cousin, Mercy commits to help him locate his missing siblings if he’ll return the estate to order. Although cautioned against trusting a man who would inherit everything should her son die, she impetuously hands over the estate to Leopold’s care in the hope of keeping him near.Leopold Randall, heir to the young duke, has returned to Hampshire to demand information regarding the fate of his missing siblings. Unfortunately, the Duchess of Romsey is clueless about them, yet her struggle to maintain the estate tugs at Leopold’s sense of duty. At her insistence, he steps in to bring order to chaos while searching for hints to his family’s whereabouts amongst the old duke’s papers. Yet the duchess tempts him in ways best unspoken. He fights to hide his weakness for her and a shameful past that could see him banished again. But when Leopold discovers a threat against the duchess and young duke’s life, he must join forces with the temptress to protect his last known relative.
Blackmail, intrigue, secrets and forbidden love are at the core of this book.
When the old Duke of Romsey and his son die, they leave a four year old boy as the Duke. His heir is a cousin, Leopold Randall who has been in exile in India for many years. Kept away from Romsey Abbey by blackmail threats, Leopold is now free to return to England to discover the whereabouts of his two brothers and sister. What he hadn’t counted on was the young Duke’s attractive and impulsive mother.
At first this book appeared to be like most historical romances. Man and woman fall in love, but circumstances keep them apart. This was not the case this time. The Duke and his mother are in danger, and before the hero discovers this, he agrees to put the estate back in order in return for the Duchess allowing him to search for clues of his lost siblings. The couple’s main attraction for each other brings them into many breathtaking situations.
I like the way the author wove the intrigue with the romance, bringing together the characters in an intertwining dance as each strand of mystery untangled. As in most regency style romances, keeping the lady’s reputation unstained is paramount, although in this case the heroine’s sour faced sister seems more than able to ensure nothing will happen. It’s well worth reading to the end as the author has a surprise in store in the last few chapters. No I’m not going to reveal what it is. Read the book and find out. Lovely book, gripping read and “wow” ending.

Lara’s years of rigorous training are evident in how calmly she reacts to everything that happens to her in this story. Her demeanor also gave me the opportunity to get to know her better as an individual in a very short amount of time. I finished this tale feeling as if I’d experienced a novella’s worth of character development because of how well Lara’s thoughts and reactions are woven into her flight.
Given everything I learned about the ship she is stationed on, the ending doesn’t quite seem to fit in with the scenes that precede it. While it wrapped up the main storyline it also prompted me to wonder why a decision that a particular character makes during it was not utilized much earlier on. In a novella information about why that was the best option for this particular situation could be subtly woven into ongoing conversation, but in a story of this length there wasn’t room for the plot development necessary to explain why that character made that choice.
Ms. Nix kept me on the edge of my seat. Every single sentence in this piece accentuates the rapidly building tension. What was even more surprising to me was how the brief flashes about Lara’s past and life outside of her occupation added to the suspense.
I’d recommend The Shuttle to anyone who enjoys military and hard science fiction. It’s a quick, rewarding read that I’m glad I picked up.

Paul studied and chased butterflies when he was a small boy. Now he chases gangsters and he’s in Hot Springs following Al Capone’s gang.
The sight of Bethany amid butterflies, sun streaming down and lighting up her pale skin and long blonde hair, is one that stops Paul Tollick on the spot. She is the most beautiful female he’s ever seen.

Start with a resort location, throw in a famous gangster with a detective hot on his trail, add a Jazz age setting, and you’ve got the makings for a fun read. Trapping the Butterfly has that and more, taking the reader on a Roaring Twenties tour through Hot Springs, Arkansas where the rich and famous traveled to “take the cure.” In this case, the famous resident is Al Capone and our heroine becomes dangerously fascinated with the lives of gangsters and their glamorous molls, even as she falls in love with the detective who’s determined to bring them down.
Bethany Robinson is the kind of heroine it’s easy to sympathize with. She’s young enough to still be under the thumb of her tyrannical aunt, but old enough to wish for more. She longs to be like other girls and bob her hair, raise her hemline, and learn to do the Charleston, but first she has to break free from the aunt and uncle who have kept her—and her inheritance—very close. I liked Bethany and rooted for her as she took her first tentative steps toward independence, but I would have liked her character to be fleshed out beyond innocence and beauty so the reader could understand what makes Paul fall in love her.
Paul Tollick is a worthy hero, a detective whose job plunges him into the harsh underworld of gangsters, bootleggers, and fast women. No wonder, then, that he is captivated by the sight of innocent Bethany, sitting in the park surrounded by butterflies. I liked how the author contrasts the two worlds Bethany is exposed to—the gangsters and the detective shadowing them—but because the author packs so much into a short novel, I sometimes felt the romance was a little stinted. I would have preferred deeper characterizations and fewer subplots so the relationship between Bethany and Paul could develop.
The author incorporates lovely scenery of Hot Springs, its hotels, and describes what the spa treatments were like. She also includes nice details from the twenties, like what films were famous at the time, and shows how life was changing in America, especially for young women. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Hot Springs with this charming Jazz age story.

J. D. Netto has written a fantasy novel about fallen angels and the eternal fight between good and evil. Isaac is thrown into a chaos he has no knowledge of, and he has to witness Demetre being claimed by the dark side without any choice. Isaac is given a choice, but even after choosing he discovers that decisions can be changed.
This was listed as a YA book, but the philosophical discussions seem much more likely to interest an adult audience, so I rated it at 16+. Both Isaac and Demetre are eighteen when the book opens.
The first part of the book has excellent pacing, but once the story switches from Isaac’s perspective to Nephle’s, I found that things seemed very rushed and some of the main characters seem to disappear only to turn up later unexpectedly. The world portrayed in this book is very dark, and the plot twists and turns in ways that make it totally unpredictable.
Readers who enjoy fantasy and allegory will find this novel to be an intriguing read. Those interested in a re-telling of Lucifer’s fall from grace and the Creator’s response will certainly enjoy J. D. Netto’s answer to the question, “What if Lucifer had a Diary?”

At Friln’s death Nelrin loses everything. Bereft of the only person he’s ever loved, Nelrin turns back into his cat form and runs away. Unfortunately he falls into the hands of a pair of scientists who have different plans than redemption for the Thresl race.
I’ve followed this series for a while, and it was interesting to meet a bonded pair who have a long history but have to work together to repair what was broken. There were some spots that were a bit confusing, and I imagine extremely confusing if this is the first book in the Thresl Chronicles a reader picks up. This is not a book to be read out of order, so many threads of intrigue flow and carry over from previous books. I personally liked those threads though I’ll admit that I wish I had gone back and read the series again for some of the little bits of past trivia, since I didn’t remember some past players.
Friln and Nelrin have a beautiful relationship which is at the core of this story. They are proof that love blooms and gets better with time, and that even when forgotten love leaves an imprint on the heart. That was my favorite part of the book. I felt a deep connection with the characters because of their long history and easily flowing feelings of love. I also learned a bit more about how Thresl’s work and I really liked finding out more about these fascinating creatures. I will be picking up the next book, and recommend this book if the reader has already read the previous books, and I do recommend the whole series, it’s a series that keeps building on itself and getting better over time much like Friln and Nelrin’s love.

Smoking hot and quite the fantasy, I really enjoyed this short story. More than once I’ve had the gym-trainer fantasy and this certainly lives up to the expectation. With lots of chemistry and build up and a really powerful climax this quick read ticks many of the boxes. While I enjoyed the author’s style, the fact the story is written in the first-person threw me out of the fantasy a few times and I would have enjoyed getting to know Noel a bit better. He clearly wasn’t a two dimensional character, but only seeing and hearing about him through the heroine’s eyes and thoughts means I finished the book feeling like I didn’t know much about him, or his likes/dislikes/thoughts and feelings. Still, I liked reading about a slightly older heroine and it helped give this popular fantasy a different and fresh edge to it.
Short and certainly not “sweet” (in an awesome way), this is a great, quick read when you just want something fast and naughty. I like the author’s style and there’s plenty of sexy description and a brilliant, explicit lovemaking scene. A wonderful read when you’re in a rush or want to set the mood for a heated evening.

The publisher describes this book as “A Romantic Comedy” and it truly is a comedy. I kept laughing through most of the heroine’s traumatic experiences. Traumatic to her, absolutely hilarious to read about. It’s the chaos that only occurs in books, it can’t possibly happen in real life – or could it?
Poor Harriet, from hoodlums chasing her for money, to a boyfriend who’s done a disappearing act but still expects her to support him, a friend who hates wearing her glasses but is blind as a bat without them, a fake fiancé who takes her to meet his family. What else could go wrong? A lot more apparently. The situation doesn’t improve when she is attracted to her fake fiance’s cousin but is sure he suspects something is wrong about her engagement.
A superb book with the comic situations arriving naturally. The author has taken her time to get it right and dragged me into the story right from the first paragraph. I wouldn’t read this on public transport as people would give me strange looks every time I laughed out loud. Thank you Ms Renham for writing such an enjoyable book.
