Small-Town Girl, Big-Time Crush

Amy Wilson longs to escape the pointed barbs and knowing looks that come with having a certain reputation in a small town. A temp job with CEO and rancher Jack Shepard seems to offer a way out, if only she can stay focused on her goal.

She’s a girl who’s going places, but Jack starts to wish that maybe he could tag along for the ride.

Amy is a little pathetic, a bit of a wet blanket and very stuck in her rut, until a certain wedding when Jack pulls her out of her pity party in the girl’s bathroom and brings her to the dance floor to everyone’s surprise. He is her rescuer but she does not fall into his arms and bedroom like many other girls would. She talks to his parents, enjoys the night and gets to know him.

The plot flows nicely from one event to the next logically. Each decision makes sense and is what the characters needed at that time which makes for great character driven fiction.

I was a little worried at first by the snippet of text before the start of the novel as it mentioned it being a ‘hick town’ which sounded a little too country for my tastes. However, this is as old school country as the novel gets. The action has ranches and middle of nowhere ranch activities but it is the people it focuses on and the people are far more interesting.

Through Amy’s eyes, Ms. Alward delves into Jack’s past and the exact details cannot be guessed until the surprise reveal near the end which clears up just why Jack can be so closed off and seems to have many different personalities (though they are all realistic).

Amy finds her place in life and work and becomes a character I could respect and enjoy to learn about much more than her original incarnation. Similarly, Jack becomes less stiff and more real and although the sex scenes are cut before and return after the event, the sexual tension between Jack and Amy is still enough to melt the snow around the ranch.

I was personally thrilled with the conclusion to the book above all else. Yes, the characters had grown in character and towards each other but the finale sums up everything important: ‘Happy?’ Yes, they are both happy. Put a huge smile on my face. Wouldn’t mind reading some more of Donna Alward’s tales, either.

Dutiful, practical Lydia Potts knew that her father, a wealthy commoner, planned to announce her engagement to a nobleman at their Christmas house party. But she didn’t expect her prospective fiancé to be in love with another woman!

Anthony wasn’t usually so reckless but something about the unknown lady’s sweet manner and big pansy-brown eyes made him want to share a bit of juicy gossip with her. Everybody knew Lord Danville needed to marry an heiress to save his family from financial ruin, but nobody but Anthony would mention it to the heiress herself.

To fix the mess he’s created, Anthony must woo Lydia on his noble friend’s behalf—and Lydia will have to decide between duty and desire.

Anthony fully intended to fix the mess he’d made, but his heart has other plans.

I immediately felt sorry for Lydia. Not only is she about to enter into an arranged marriage with a man she barely knows, but she seems to be the only one who doesn’t know he’s already in love with another woman. Lord Danville is only marrying her for her money. Lydia is absolutely mortified. I’m sure anyone who has ever been the subject of gossip can relate. Even though the news about Danville is a severe blow, I think Lydia handles herself very well. She holds herself together in front of her guests, determined not to cry in front of them. Lydia also tries very hard to please her father. She knows that a marriage to a nobleman will bring her family the respect that money can’t buy. She tries very hard to envision a life with Danville. However, that becomes more difficult as she spends more time with Danville’s charming friend, Anthony.

Anthony is a hero in every sense of the word. He is clever, caring, and the perfect shoulder for Lydia to lean on throughout the story. Lydia isn’t used to playing hostess to a house full of wealthy and arrogant guests, and she finds herself overwhelmed on more than one occasion. Anthony always manages to come to her aid at just the right time. Anthony has a great sense of humor and I found myself laughing and smiling along with Lydia as I read.

Anthony frequently puts his foot in his mouth, especially where Lydia and Danville are concerned. His attempts to convince Lydia that Danville likes her are hilarious. Anthony truly tries to do the right thing by his friend Danville, but Anthony’s feelings for Lydia grow stronger as he gets to know her. It was clear to me that Lydia and Anthony make a great couple, but I wasn’t sure how they could ever be together without someone getting hurt. I was pleasantly surprised by Ms. Etter’s satisfying solution to this problem.

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read Lydia’s Christmas Charade. Anthony is thoroughly entertaining, and I truly enjoyed watching his romance with Lydia bloom. Looking for a sweet and charming historical romance? Pick up a copy of Lydia’s Christmas Charade today.

It isn’t long before their no-string fling transforms into something more. As desire unearths emotions and deeply buried secrets, Mia has to decide whether to give love a chance to grow, or let it slip it away.

Elle Kennedy does not disappoint with this book ! The title is dead on too. This scorching hot romance is truly As Hot As It Gets.

Jackson’s book has been a long time coming for this happy reader. Wow ! Let’s just say that he was a surprise of the best kind. The absolute best alpha man. This sexy SEAL is ready to go for it with Mia. While Mia is fascinated by the big sexy SEAL, but she’s reluctant to get into anything right now. Still, it doesn’t take long for the silver tongued devil to get his first date, and he takes it from there. He shows her what he can do for her. It works and gets him the chance he needs.

I liked Mia. She was a strong woman who knows how to make her alpha man work for what he wants. She was a straight shooter who didn’t play games. I loved that about her. Then she had this simmering passion that was just waiting to be lit on fire. Jackson was the right man for that job. Boy was he ever ! I like reading about men like Jackson. He knew what he wanted and how to get it. A force of nature who blew right in and took charge in the very best way. He was a totally charming and irresistable guy. I couldn’t help but adore Jackson.

Okay, so I was excited about Jackson’s book. I loved the romance of the story. I liked that there was some family drama thrown in for the two of them and how they supported each other. I loved the steamy love scenes. The sexual chemistry was great, so the heat level was scorching. With some help from Jackson, Mia discovers that she is a naughty girl. There was nothing vanilla about the love scenes. Oh yeah, they were plenty dirty with lots of kinky stuff going on. They played around with some anal, spanking, toys and voyeurism. Yet, even as the relationship heats up, Jackson had to work hard to convince Mia that what they had was the real thing. The drama was intense, and helped to keep the reader in anticipation all the way until the ending.

The book was incredibly well written. That’s no surprise. I love Elle Kennedy’s writing style. We get a romantic love story along with the fantastic love scenes. So the plot was solid and it flowed just right. The conflict was good, with the family drama and personal problems for Jackson and Mia. It kept the story moving along at a fast pace. It was nice catching up with the characters from the previous books in the series. I enjoyed the chuckles when the crew got together. I have to put this out there too and hope that what I’m thinking is true. Just so you know …. a rowdy new crew came to town in this book. I was intrigued by these guys. Could a new series be just around the corner ? I hope so.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book. I sincerely think other readers will too. So I’ll be giving it a big recommendation.

His heart wasn’t in it… Dom Niles Malloy has locked his favourite flogger in a drawer and has all-but left the lifestyle, but then Brandy Hess shatters his solitude and shakes up his life, challenging him to fully live again.

What you see isn’t what you get…

Though he was once a respected and well-known Dom, Niles Malloy rarely attends functions at the Den, and he has no interest in ever having another permanent relationship. He satisfies his occasional desire for kink by playing with subs who have no expectations.

Professional sub Brandy Hess has known Master Niles for years, and when he invites her to play with him, she accepts. But she’s unprepared for the reaction she has to his intense brand of play. In their shared, emotionally intimate moments she sees the weariness in his features, and she has a dangerous and compelling urge to know him better.

As she surrenders to him a second time, Brandy wonders if she’s lost her sense of self-preservation. She’s attracted to an enigma, a man with an edge, someone as remote as he is demanding, and her life will never be the same…

As another installment in the Mastered series, like all others, For the Sub can be read as a standalone. Just like previous books in the series, this is another superb novel that hooked me from page one.

After the death of his wife, Master Niles is still not himself. Sure, he’s still part of the scene but his heart is not into it, until he meets Brandy. I liked Master Niles from page one. He’s intelligent, seductive, good looking and of course, dominant. However, his dominance is a little different. He doesn’t expect the sub to act like a perfect model, he wants more than just a pleasing answer, he wants honesty and truth in his encounters and he gets that from Brandy. As an added bonus, Niles knows how to treat animals (I think I sighed loudly more than once when he was interacting with Brandy’s pets).

Though there would be no story without Master Niles, I believe the star of the show is Brandy. She’s not what one would usually expect to see in a submissive (and I’m not the only one to think so, Niles thinks at one point: “She straddled him and tugged his T-shirt from his jeans. Eleanor would have never been so bold. At the Den, neither would Brandy. But here, her natural personality shone. He liked it—her—more and more.”).

Brandy’s personality is something I loved about this story. She is a character that has a life beyond BDSM. She has a budding business, knows all about tomatoes and has pets. A heroine with a soft heart, Brandy was not only unusual in that sense; she was also experienced in the scene. Unlike other novels in which the woman wants to experiment with BDSM or has submissive tendencies and is just waiting for the right Dom to appear, Brandy was a professional submissive that knew what she wanted and how she wanted it at all times. She was the one in control. She was more than a submissive. She was her own person outside of the bedroom and inside; and even in the sizzling hot sex scenes, I could see that degree of control that every submissive has over his or her Dom. Of course, Niles saw it too, and the bond that grows between them at every passing page goes beyond the sex.

It is worth mentioning, that unlike previous books in the Mastered series, I felt that there was no explicit talking through everything occurring in the BDSM scene. Perhaps, because none of the characters were new to it or because Cartwright predicted that readers might already know the basics, we were dunked right into the world of Dominance and submission. Albeit, I found the kinkiness in this story is of a much lesser degree than others in the series. For the Sub was a sweeter novel (yet still very erotic).

Though the ending seemed a little rushed, this is another great read by Sierra Cartwright. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series (finally, Damien’s story is coming)!

As Duncan plays along with the outdated rites, he realizes how much he’s missed Helena’s laughter. When he hears she plans to re-enter the Marriage Mart the next Season, he is struck with jealousy. Is he falling in love, or simply under the spell of the holiday season?

Ms. Fisher writes a charming little story that tugs on heart strings. It’s a simple story of two people who grew up together and then went separate ways. During this Christmas, they find each other again and have to decide what to do about it.

As Helena starts dictating how they will decorate the house and how everyone must participate in the activities, Duncan begins to think about going home. He suggests Helena is going overboard on the Christmas festivities, but no one else thinks so. He even manages to get Helena under the mistletoe for a moment. This causes confusion in his heart. He wants Helena happy, but he’s not sure how to do that.  I think the best part is when Helena tells him she’s going to re-enter the Marriage Mart next season. He’s consumed by jealousy.

The women in these stories are always much more shy about expressing their feelings than I am. I know some people are offended by what I say, but I am honest and say what I think. Duncan would have known what I was thinking or that I needed more time to think. Guess it’s a good thing I didn’t live in Victorian times.

Ms. Fish writes a good tale with Christmas traditions, smooth romance and a happy ending. Get a copy and a cup of coffee or tea and spend Christmas with the Chapman’s. You’ll enjoy it!

Can two kids alone stop a monstrous evil?

Women and children have been mysteriously disappearing from Evan’s town. And now Evan may know why. He was climbing a tree in the woods when he saw a decrepit old man toss a helpless woman into the mouth of a hideous tree-like creature.

The cost of medications of generic cialis 5mg in the US is notoriously high which is in stark contrast to other developed countries. For this many soft cialis online reputed companies has launched good products. Exercise makes your brain work properly and generic sildenafil canada smoothly. Most viagra 50 mg men want a solution which acts as an aphrodisiac because it is mild in potency. Evan knows he can’t stop the man and the creature by himself, but he also knows no one will believe a kid with such a wild story. Only his best friend, Peter, can help him confront this terrifying evil. But if they aren’t careful, they will soon be missing too.

It’s easy to overlook something supernatural if it’s nestled into completely ordinary surroundings. No one takes a walk in the woods expecting to see anything other than trees, flowers, and the occasional animal. That is, until now.

Evan is a likeable and completely believable thirteen year old boy whose frightening experience in the woods one afternoon made me eager to follow him deeper into what is really happening in his community. Despite his young age this is definitely not a young adult novel. There are some truly disturbing scenes in this book, and while Evan’s response to them was well worth my time, the material is too dark for readers his age.

I was caught off guard by all but one of the plot twists in this novella. While the one I figured out was slightly too easy to anticipate in advance, it was exciting to be surprised by such an unexpected ending that fit into the themes and atmosphere of earlier scenes so well. This is a great choice for anyone who loves truly original science fiction.

The metaphors in this story are also quite memorable. My favourite one compares a certain character’s presence to a “cockroach creeping across a freshly made coconut cream pie.” The author saves his most vivid imagery for special occasions, but I eagerly anticipated discovering each new one as the plot progresses.

The Tree Man is a must-read for anyone who loves the horror or science fiction genres. Its exceptional storytelling is overshadowed only by the thrilling plot twists that made it impossible for me to put this book down.

If Elena could learn to relinquish control, they would make a formidable couple, but breaking the habit of a lifetime doesn’t come easy for a self-confessed control freak even though the sexual tension between them sizzles hotter than the midday sun.

It’s good sometimes to accept that reality is better than fantasy and there really is nothing to be afraid of!

Elena Meadows is a successful, independent business woman who’s strived to achieve her career goals in the world of interior design, but one thing is lacking in her life – love and lust and a good does of R&R. So when her uncle sets her up a nice little holiday in the South of France the last thing she expects is the love and lust to go with the R&R. Just as well that very satisfying result comes in the form of Charles Hunt, a man she’s been quietly simmering a flame for, for years. Trouble is, she’s heard about him and what he expects of his women, which is why she’s steered clear. Fear of the unknown is a powerful motivator.

Hot For Him is a billionaire story (yes I think they are a sub-genre these days) but unlike a certain other book that will not be mentioned, the heroine Elena is intelligent, sassy and can pay her own bills. I enjoyed the set up of this story, the relationship between Charles and Elena and the voice is fresh and the plot fast paced. I would have perhaps liked a little mention of Charles – as we were in Elena’s head to begin with – before he actually appeared. I felt I was getting to know her and then suddenly there was this massive fact of a man she’d been dreaming about for years suddenly jumping onto the page the same time he did. But that’s a minor quibble because Charles’ character was bright and vivid and I soon found myself quite taken with him.

I enjoyed how the author handled her heroine’s wariness of the whole BDSM lifestyle. Hot For Him is only a short story, so there isn’t masses of details and scenes, but what there is works just fine. The writing is competent, the story perfectly satisfying and if you’re looking for a rich guy who likes to introduce girls to the delights of submitting then this might just be the story for you.

Will unfounded gossip steal Sophia’s chance for happiness?

Sophia is a sweet young woman who is devoted to her parents, but has a strong spirit and a mind of her own. I admire her ability to bend the rules of society without completely breaking them. Sophia’s heart belongs to Trevor, and she had every reason to hope they would be engaged by Christmas; however, a vicious rumor put a halt to those plans. Sophia is determined to let Trevor know how she feels, but the rules of society severely limit her options. Sophia must take advantage of every opportunity with Trevor, or risk losing him forever.

I must admit to being frustrated with Trevor from the start. After being the subject of a false rumor, Trevor abruptly pulls away from Sophia. Instead of talking to them directly, he automatically assumes that Sophia and her family will want nothing more to do with him. I know that Trevor is trying to behave according to the rules of polite society, but his family had been friends with Sophia’s for years. I would have thought that would have earned him the right to explain his side of the story without fear.

I will say that Trevor’s decision to pull away from Sophia gave them both time to evaluate their feelings for each other. When they realized their future together wasn’t guaranteed, they were forced to imagine what their lives would be like without each other. Neither of them was happy with the prospect of a future apart. I enjoyed cheering Sophia and Trevor on to a speedy reconciliation.
