Let me say, I am not typically a sci-fi/fantasy fan. However, the blurb for this book was too good to pass up. Once I began reading, I quickly realized this was an exceptionally, well-written story. Halfway through the story, I had to remind myself that this was fantasy, and I realized, that was fine by me.

Lyra has no desires to become a wife. Who can blame her after seeing the torment her sister has endured? Lyra’s brother, at her insistence, secretly tutors her in self-defense and weapons usage. She takes the title of The Lady Prince and makes it her mission to help women escape before they are forced into an unwanted marriage. When some of Daene’s secrets are revealed, I didn’t know if I should slap the fool out of him or take him in my arms and comfort him. While I sat fidgeting with indecision, Lyra handled the situation perfectly.

I know this story has a hot, spicy rating, but Ms Meilleur tells the sex scenes in a very classy manner and with much creativity. They were hot, but oh, so nicely done.

One thing I really admired about The Lady Prince is that it was a very refreshing story. I never knew what to expect next and I was never disappointed. If you like fantasies, you can’t miss this. If you aren’t a fantasy fan, this is the one to start with.

The trouble with triad love stories is that often one character gets neglected, and when there are two beautiful men involved, it’s usually the woman. Lucky for Nikita, that isn’t the case here. She’s in a rough spot when you meet her, but Nikita’s problems are introduced and dealt with without wallowing in her atrocious situation. Montgomery expertly avoids the traps a less skilled author would have fallen into, giving us just enough angst to build tension without drowning us in it. Her action scenes are intense and well wrought, but she seems to have difficulty with her descriptions of anatomy and sex, a cardinal sin in an erotic story. Using “the selkie” more than once or twice in a sex scene is tedious and mood-killing. Repetition is a constant problem, and one that could have been fixed with a little more care and craft. Perhaps this is just the result of awkwardness or poor editing, but it is a distraction nonetheless.

Despite all that, however, you can forgive a lot from a story that winds up as tight as this one does, pulling you in as it tightens. The ending came faster than I’d like, and I can’t help but think that this would have been an entrancing novel. As a novella, it’s a bit of a tease. Really though, when my biggest complaint is that I wish I could have spent more time with this story and its characters, Dawn Montgomery must be doing something right.

This book was an impulse buy, and I am so glad I followed that impulse. Resisting Command was well worth it, and I will definitely be looking forward to more by this author. As a matter of fact, I have the books before and after this one on my Wish List!

Dr. Jenia Carstairs was a brilliant woman and I found so much to admire about her. She was wonderful to get to know, and I just loved her personality. The fact that she no longer fights her sexual leanings and even embraces them, despite how amazed she is at the ease with which she embraces them, just endeared her further to me. I just adored watching how his mind worked as realization of what he needed slapped him upside his head. As he was pulled into a much different relationship than he had previously been in, or ever thought he would enjoy, I fell even more in love with him right along with Jenia. Paul’s emotional journey as he fought to save Jenia and the colony, all while discovering so much more about himself was fantastic to watch, especially considering his background.

The cast of supporting characters was engaging and added quite a bit of color to an already appealing read. I enjoyed seeing a “bad” guy get his beginning start at redemption, and have to say that I would just love to see more of Donny. Just for the sheer joy of getting to know all of these individuals better, I do feel the need to acquire the previous book or books in this series. If for no other reason than this, I have to recommend Resisting Command.

Jennifer Leeland has a truly marvelous take on Erotic Romance that has to be experienced. I thoroughly enjoyed Resisting Command with it’s intricate storyline that kept me guessing to the very end. I’m adding Ms. Leeland to my auto-buy list, and would recommend you do the same.

It is the romance between Joe and Brian, however, that steals the show for me. The slow progression of their relationship from tentative exploration to mutual devotion is a joy to experience. I enthusiastically recommend it.

Oh My Goodness! I LOVED this book! I’ve come to expect quite a bit from Siren Publishing and their authors since we started reviewing their books… and I have to say that Lara Santiago doesn’t disappoint. I was sucked in from the beginning and was loathe to put this book down… even to feed myself!

When we first meet Valerie she is lamenting the fact that her life is lacking… in her eyes anyway, and apparently in her mother’s as well. We’ve all been in Valerie’s shoes as she tries to lose those few extra pounds she thinks are holding her back, and her wry grumbling as she trudges up the hill in her gray sweatsuit endeared her further to me. When she witnesses a shooting and then finds herself in the middle of a strange, alien environment, her humor regarding her situation was how I’d think many of us would react… either that or screaming hysterics. Personally, I prefer to think I’d handle it with the aplomb and humor that Valerie displayed. All in all, she was a fun character who handled a difficult situation rather well.

Now, there are five men that each captures a piece of Valerie’s heart: Hauser is the front man and the first of the five she meets: confident and charismatic he made me smile with a simple wink and a kind word. Meeting so many new people, including a group of aliens with rather unoriginal names, which was quite a bit of their charm let me tell you, was quite a bit of fun. I have to say that I adored Daisy and am hoping to see her full story soon… or next… please! I would love to see more of this incredible world and the people who inhabit it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end, and was intrigued by how Lara Santiago brought aobut the happy ending that made me smile, and will no doubt do the same for you. Menagerie is a gripping, unique offering of the Sci-fi/Fantasy variety that will leave you hoping for more from this amazing voice in erotic romance.

Four days before her birthday he finds Noah Ravenswood, a practicing wizard and learned occultist. Noah, armed with hereditary mystical training by his mother, and Doctor Sarah Bookings his associate, he travels to southern Ohio to do battle with the Albrecht Curse.

But who or what is Noah really fighting? Is it truly a hex or perhaps a power-play by one of the Albrecht sons? Could it be the angry and distrustful Maximilan Albrecht, the eldest son and inheritor of the vast Albrecht Estates? Could it be the playboy Hans Albrecht, trying to dethrone his older brother and wrest control for himself? Can Noah and Sarah unravel the mystery before they become embroiled in the family politics, carnal activities, and deadly games at Albrecht Manor?

The Curse of Albrecht Manor is a very similar to my favorite wizard, Harry Dresden. The major difference is Noah is not a martyr to deny himself the love of a woman. From the sounds of it, he started off the same way but I feel lucky that Mr. Newman decided to condense all the internal conflict so I could get to the story.

The presentation is what Wile E. Coyote would label ‘Romanticus Interuptus’. I was treated to the forward momentum of the relationship when, just like in real life — work, duty and responsibilities thrust themselves into the poignant moment.

What this story did was take me on a journey between Noah and Desiree’s romance; hence my reference to the Dresden files. If suspense, mystery, a dash of horror and a very human character facing paranormal threats is your thing, you are in for a treat.

The book starts off by giving me a very clear picture of why Noah’s job is so difficult and why he has many concerns about admitting love. I’d be too in his line of work. I got to meet Sarah, his partner who, for a time, I wasn’t clear on her relationship with Noah. Mr. Newman addressed that very well.

The mystery is the breaking of an ancient hex. Yet, Noah is so focused and dedicated he remains true to his profession even with the very real threat it could pose to Desiree. Again, echoes of my other favorite wizard.

Much to my shock, Noah has to face his worst nightmare. I didn’t expect Mr. Newman to address that and again, he wove a surprising twist which I found very satisfying. Despite all of it, the Happily Ever After ended up being a twist in and of itself and I really enjoyed how it played out. There wasn’t a lot of flowery talk; it was pure emotion and raw feelings exposed for me to see. It confirmed for me the existence of a very solid HEA.

All in all, The Curse of Albrecht Manor took me on a roller coaster ride into a dark tunnel and came out into the light of love. I think I just found a new wizard to watch in Noah Ravenswood. What does the ingenious Mr. Newman have next in store for Mr. Ravenswood? I liked this book enough to want to know.

Mary commutes between her dream home near the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri and her residence in Iowa.
