Illusionist Stephen Elliott performs dazzling magic feats to crowded theaters around the world. In Mexico, an old woman presses an ancient Mayan relic, giving him the stone and a mysterious warning with no explanation. Stephen violates that warning and must hide his secret from the world. He’s become a person no one can explain or understand. Sleight of hand becomes real magic, and moonlight becomes essential. Stephen is cursed, alone…and immortal.

From her seat in the twenty-second row, Anabel Bernier recognizes with a jolt the handsome star of the magic show. World War II and the passage of time did nothing to dim the burning memory of her moonlight encounter with the charming Stephen Elliott and his Mayan relic on the deck of the USS Hope. Finding him again twenty years later stirs up more questions than answers. Can she trust that he is telling the truth? Could the stone and moonlight have affected her too? Now their lives are inextricably entwined. If she helps Stephen, she could lose him forever.

Unexplained events, secrets, and powerful magic threaten their second chance at a future together. But how long would the future be? Minutes? Days? Years? Forever? Terrible choices could lead to unthinkable consequences for Stephen and Anabel. The mysterious Mayan relic holds the key.

Don’t take candy, or companion spirits, from strangers. Most kids have been given that advice about candy. Candy from strangers carries the possibility of danger. Companion spirits carry a bit more than the possibility. Illusionist magician Stephen Elliot could have benefited from that advice and its corollary. Precautions This medicine is only commenced for the ED sufferer purchase viagra online a woman, normal men or below 18 people should not try it. Medications that are used to treat these health conditions are also more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction, as the blood flow in to 20mg tadalafil prices increased level. The most well known and well researched is healing online cialis soft mineral water for treatment of the complications after this surgery. There are some instances where tadalafil cheap Chinese waiters or waitresses forgot what you ordered and they will bring the wrong food or drinks, and for them it’s not their problem, it’s yours. If you do, by chance, take the companion spirit (or candy), follow the accompanying rules; the unspoken ones (don’t eat the candy) and the spoken ones (don’t expose the spirit to moonlight). If you don’t, you’ll suffer the consequences.

Stephen didn’t mean to break the rules, but sometimes intent doesn’t matter. There are still consequences.

Moonlight and Illusions is a book that hums a familiar tune: love works in the strangest ways. Still, I would have liked to have seen the scenes and experienced the consequences paid by Stephen and his family following the Companion’s exposure to moonlight. There’s a lot of story that gets glossed over. It may be back story since the main plot involves his relationship with Anabel Bernier, but there are chapters of back story and a few of the missing scenes are referred to repeatedly. I’d have happily exchanged some of the present day “maybe I love him, maybe I don’t” scenes for the much more interesting experience of watching the consequences unfold and seeing the realization of those consequences dawn on Stephen and his family.

Ms. Wylie does a fabulous job with setting—Mexico, battle fields, hospital ships, Mayan ruins. She’s a master at incorporating the reader’s senses to transport them to each time and place. Moonlight and Illusions is a fun, captivating read, but it could have been truly amazing. I’ve read other books by Ms. Wylie and know she has the talent to pull it off. Delving a bit deeper into the curse/promise of the stone would have made this book sing instead of simply humming. Still, I recommend this book for what it is—a satisfying, descriptive romance with a paranormal twist.

Michelle Sanderson may appear to be a strong, independent woman, but on the inside, she’s still the wounded girl who fled home years ago. A young army vet, Michelle returns to the quaint Blackberry Island Inn to claim her inheritance and recover from the perils of war. Instead, she finds the owner’s suite occupied by the last person she wants to see.
Carly Williams and Michelle were once inseparable, until a shocking betrayal destroyed their friendship. And now Carly is implicated in the financial disaster lurking behind the inn’s cheerful veneer.

Single mother Carly has weathered rumors, lies and secrets for a lifetime, and is finally starting to move forward with love and life. But if the Blackberry Island Inn goes under, Carly and her daughter will go with it.

To save their livelihoods, Carly and Michelle will undertake a turbulent truce. It’ll take more than a successful season to move beyond their devastating past, but with a little luck and a beautiful summer, they may just rediscover the friendship of a lifetime.

You just never know when it’s time to confront your past. Let go of the pain, make amends with those you once loved. In Barefoot Season, Ms. Mallery sets the stage for two women, once friends, until betrayal tore them apart.

Carly and Michelle were like sisters at one point. Who would have thought they envied each other, never once sharing those feelings with one another? Michelle, bitter and angry, has come back from serving in the military. Though she isn’t very likable at first, it’s understandable why she acts the way she does. As the story progresses, Michelle is redeemed into a character I cared about. I’d hoped things would work out for her in the beginning, despite her attitude. She’s got a lot to own up to, and people to deal with she’d left behind all those years ago. It’s never easy.

Then there’s Carly, the other heroine. She works hard to be the best mother she can be for her daughter. Using this method, before you blast phase, excuse yourself and reassure your partner you will price of cialis be back for some respite after the very elegant Bekaraan is played out. The fears within her about her Michelle’s homecoming turn into surprise. Carly and Michelle are pushed into working together to save something they both care about – the inn.

It looks almost as if history may repeat itself again when Carly shows feelings for Sam, and he takes a liking to Carly and her daughter. For Michelle, her love interest is less subtle, but it does show promise with Jared. Though Both Sam and Jared play a role in this book, their relationship with the woman doesn’t take a leading role in the story. I was particularly interested in how the story would play out with Sam, as he knows both Carly and Michelle. I would have loved to learn more about Jared, but his character wasn’t as up front and center as some of the others.

Ms. Mallery creates another delightful story with emotion and depth readers are bound to fall in love with. When picking up a book by this author, we know one thing- we’re in for a wonderful heartwarming ride. Barefoot Season is no different. The bonds of friendship and family are tested within the pages of this novel. Let’s not forget about falling in love. Both Michelle and Carly have a chance for happiness.

This book aims to please. It’s one that belongs on the keeper shelf, to be read over and over again. Michelle and Carly, plus all the other characters in this book found their way into my heart and mind, even when the book was finished. If you’re a fan of contemporary women’s fiction with strong romance elements, then I strongly suggest Barefoot Season.

When Colleen finds a book on John’s shelf called “Midnight Passions,” she realizes reading is fundamental … for her sex life.

This story has a little bit of everything. A heroine who seems down on her luck, a hero you know isn’t right for her…and oh yes, a landlord she’s hardly noticed before but might be the answer to all her problems and actually the man of her dreams.

One thing Ms. Ellwood did a great job with was making Colleen’s current beau easy to dislike. I wondered what she was doing with this obvious loser but then there were hints about the landlord. When he enters the scene I hoped she’d dump Daryl and make a move on the landlord…forgive me if I’m giving away too much when I say she does just that.

I was taken by surprise when what I thought would be a regular romance turning into a delightful and sexy paranormal story. All the suffering Colleen went through with Daryl is certainly made up for in the forms of John and Spence.

The dialogue was natural sounding and the pacing fast. Midnight Passions might be a good pick for you if you’re a fan of hot contemporary romance with some surprise paranormal elements thrown into the mix.

Devon Carter was her first; now newly wed Ashley wants their passion to last. But her dreams of true love are crushed by the discovery that their marriage is another of Daddy’s business deals. Her strategy: act the part of perfect wife and make Devon love her.

But Devon misses the bubbly, no-holds-barred woman his wife used to be. Who is this Ashley with the steely demeanor of a society wife? And will he find a way to rekindle the fire in her eyes…especially now that she’s pregnant?

Charming romance with emotional turmoil sums up Tempted by Her Innocent Kiss by Maya Banks. This light read had my emotions engaged after the first page, I wanted to reach out and smack the hero of the story and then I wanted to scream at the heroine to turn and run the other way from this creep.

Devon Carter is a driven man who has worked hard to get ahead in life and everything he has ever wanted is at his fingertips. He just has to marry the daughter of the man whose company he wants to merge with his. Nice plan, it’s just too bad an innocent woman who knows nothing about it is in the middle. I really wanted to hate our hero for this lesson in idiocy, but throughout the story readers are shown that Devon isn’t really a bad guy and he really does love his bride to be, come wife. Devon thinks he needs to change his wife to make her the perfect partner for him; he doesn’t realize what a treasure she already is until it is too late. Devon loves his wife just the way she is, he just hasn’t figured it out yet and it was enthralling to watch him discover his true feelings for Ashley.

Ashley Copeland is an optimistic and effervescent woman who loves deeply and innocently. She was a character that immediately stole my heart with her zest for life and exuberant personality. I felt every emotion she portrayed throughout the story and my heart broke for her when it seemed her dreams of happily ever after were not coming true. Ash was one of those characters that I totally empathized with and wanted her to be happy so badly. I cheered for her when she discovered she doesn’t need to be anything but what she is. Ashley was such a wonderful character with depth and spirit.

Ms. Banks’ prose is sweet and charming in this romantic story of deception and its effects on a relationship. This story was fast paced in the beginning and moved rather relaxed throughout however I did find there were times when it dragged. Nothing significant but the conflict was somewhat repetitive. Ashley needs to be what her husband wants in order to gain his love and Devon doesn’t know what he wants until it is gone. Ms. Banks pens dialogue that is authentic for her characters and kept this story progressing at a leisurely pace. The plot was beautifully written displaying the characters growth throughout. The ending was sweet and satisfying leaving me with a smile on my face and lightness in my heart for the characters and their happy ending.

Maya Banks has written a charming romance with characters that tug the heartstrings of her readers. Tempted by Her Innocent Kiss is a lovely story that will have readers searching for more tasty treats by Ms. Banks.

His best friend’s wedding just turned into the craziest hangover ever…

Kane Wilkensen’s buddy was about to marry the girl of Kane’s dreams. Which would have been fine—heartbreaking but fine—if Kane hadn’t woken up in a Las Vegas honeymoon suite with her, a giant sack of money and a great big blank spot in both their memories first.

He’d always thought a good man would never steal his best friend’s lover, but one crazy night may be just the chance Kane needs to show his “wife” that she’s with the right husband after all…

When the dream suddenly becomes a reality, only one question remains… what happened last night?

After three lonely years, Kane gets exactly what he’s wanted – marriage to Delilah. The problem is he can’t remember how it happened.

Waking up next to Kane was not exactly how Delilah envisioned her first day of married life. Especially since he wasn’t the man she was supposed to have married. The problem is she can’t help not feeling guilty about it.

A woman with an unspeakable past
Olivia Brightmore didn’t know what to expect when she took a position to teach at Englefiend School, an academy for “gifted” children. But it wasn’t having to rescue a young girl who levitated to the ceiling. Or battling a dark mystery in the surrounding woods. And nothing could have prepared her for Dr. Gareth St. John…

A man with exceptional talent
He knew all about her history and scrutinized her every move because of it. But there was more than suspicion lurking in those luscious green eyes. Even with all the strange occurrences at the school, the most unsettling of all is the attraction pulling Olivia and Gareth together with a force that cannot be denied.

Olivia knew the job she was taking on was unusual. She didn’t know exactly what a school for “gifted” children meant, but she knew it wasn’t going to be for common everyday gifts. She was a bit amazed though when she arrived and had to help a young girl afloat by the ceiling find a way to get back to the floor…

Isabel Cooper writes a very good story. Her words flow well, the storyline is interesting and she mixes danger and love together in active quest to stop a demon. There are no boring parts in this story.

The main female character, Olivia, married young, lost her husband, and sustained herself by playing at being a fake medium. As she matured, she found a mentor who actually trained her in areas of magic. It was this knowledge that got her the job. Because robertrobb.com buy generic levitra the process that causes PVD affects blood vessels and blood flow in the penile region. The leading male character is Gareth. He was injured in the war, knew of her charlatan role, and works as a doctor. He has no respect for her.

The author makes the sparks fly between the two. He can’t keep his hands off her and she wants him just as badly. Even though they end up in bed, they can’t tolerate each other. This part of the story is one my favorite parts. Ms. Cooper has Olivia give as a good as she gets and easily shows how hard it is for them to pretend they don’t care.

Throw in a demon who lives in the woods, wanting to take over the school, and the plot speeds right up. It gets very exciting when he begins to break the portal between his world and theirs. The drama and tension worked into the story as the war begins between human and demon is well expressed by the author. As they learn how their powers work and try to save the students and perhaps the world, you won’t want to leave your chair until you’ve reached the end.

This one is going in my personal library as a keeper. If you enjoy a good read with a bit of paranormal influence, you’ll like this book. Why not give it a try yourself?

Halloween might be months away, but this is a story that would be a pick for an October read. It’s got humor, heat and a vampire, who is so much sexier than the boss the heroine has wanted to make her own for so long.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book with Jane taking her boss’ car to the meeting but stopping at the Halloween maze. Ms. Pauli did a wonderful job setting the scene for this creepy attraction stuck in the middle of nowhere. When Jane gets lost it in, I felt scared for her and wondered if she’d ever get out of there alive.

When she finally arrives at the meeting, we met her boss. I struggled to like him, and couldn’t really see her attraction to him. Enter the sexy vampire she met at the maze and things go from bad to very good for her.

Despite its fun plot, engaging dialogue and smoking hot sex, the story did have some jarring scenes. For instance, one minute Jane was at the meeting, the next she seemed to be back at the maze and I couldn’t quite follow along. There are some truly funny moments and of course, some very sexy ones too. I also liked the exchanges between Jane and the vampire.

I enjoyed Thrice Shy and recommend it. With the thread of humor throughout, it is a different take on vampire paranormals.

When her husband is killed in a fiery car accident while on his way to find her, she thinks she has escaped him at last, but she’s wrong. It quickly becomes clear that even in death he has no intention of letting her go.

As Josie develops a rapport with sexy police chief, Paul Stark, trouble begins to brew. There’s something special about the tall, mysterious officer with the long jagged scar down his face. But Josie soon learns that he’s haunted by a nightmarish past.

Sparks fly in their small, Midwestern town, and as their attraction grows, so does a dead husband’s fury. In order to smother this dark, sinister spirit, and perhaps find true and lasting happiness with each other, the living must learn to let go, give in, and leave their ghosts in the past.

Domestic abuse victim, Josie Collins, is finally leaving behind her superstar husband. She’s ready to start a new life back in her hometown, but her husband’s shadow haunts her everywhere she goes. Even after she learns of his death, his spirit still lingers by her.

Josie was a very realistic heroine. She came off as an average heartbroken woman on her search to forget and let go of the shadows that haunt her. I found her to be very enjoyable. Her relationships with the hero, her grandparents, and her best friend made the book come together. I felt as though I was reading about a real person’s life. I also enjoyed Paul, the hero. He, too, was faced with a death that lingered, and the slow unraveling of his past made me understand him more and more as the pages turned. The scene near the end with him touched me. Child Anxiety Disorder Treatment: One of the newest PDE5 inhibitors marketed as canadian pharmacy for viagra an ED treatment. It was very beautifully written.

My favorite part of the book was the paranormal aspect of it. With most paranormal books, the supernatural elements sometimes overpower the plot and the characters. In this novel, however, the paranormal side of the plot was very slow in it’s development. It seemed more plausible. Ms. Newell also didn’t give her ghost any unrealistic powers. He was rather weak for a ghost, at times doing nothing but making scary noises or appearing here or there. Only near the end does he gain strength and cause some damage. I loved the scenes written from the other ghost’s point of view. That added some depth to the story.

Another part of the book I really enjoyed was the cat. Tumbleweed reminded me of my own cat, and I’m pretty certain the author must have had a cat. I really enjoyed the scenes with Josie’s furry friend.

For everything good about A Death That Lingers I did have a couple of minor issues. I thought the story dragged a bit and there were a few scenes that could have been shorter. Also, I wasn’t happy with the editing in this story. There were parts where more dialoge would have gone a long way to cut down on so much telling and not enough showing. The author’s use of passive voice was a distraction for me but unless you know what to look for it probably won’t affect your enjoyment of this story.

Besides those tiny little problems, however, I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this wonderful, talented author. If you’re a fan of realistic contemporary with characters who have flaws and quirks that make them real, then you have to give this book a try.

Jon knows he has to have her. Can he convince the gorgeous submissive to trust him? And will he be able to keep her safe from the demons in her past?

Subspace is something many have sought for but not so many have achieved. It takes a lot of trust and talent for all parties involved for someone to reach subspace and that is a testament in these stories. This anthology had something for either the beginner BDSM reader or those who love the genre and read everything published.

Three Way Tie by Sierra Cartwright

This was definitely the way you want to start an anthology, with two sexy doms trying out a new toy named Lindsey. While I am not part of the BDSM scene, this story sure did give a girl a few things to think about. The way Rafael and Eric used their mutual understanding to teach Lindsey what true submission really is was amazing. I felt like I was actually in Lindsey’s shoes at times and could picture these gorgeous men standing over me. I have to say this author really set the bar high for all others to follow within this anthology.

While the physical attraction within this story was entertaining, I felt as if Diego’s reluctance created an emotional block I’m not use to in BDSM stories. One of the aspects of this genre I have always enjoyed was how the characters seem to have such a great connection both physically and emotionally. With this slight emotional disconnect, it made the relationship feel a bit hollow at times. I think more understanding about Diego’s personal issues would have made it easier for me to understand and appreciate his reluctance to give Kaci his all.

Even with this disconnect the story was a good read, especially because they had boundaries within their relationship which allowed each character to be themselves. Many times, in a BDSM relationship, it seems all consuming and the characters lose who they really are. Therefore, it was refreshing to see Kaci and Diego stay true to themselves.

His Landlady by Jan Irving

This is one of the few plot driven erotic stories I have enjoyed. I normally focus on the characters within a story and they help to drive the plot but within this story, I found the plot line captivated me more than the individuals did. I really enjoyed seeing how the relationship developed, and while I did not know much about the characters, I appreciated the progression of the romantic interest. I especially liked the little added subplot of Diana caring for Jeff, her deceased friend’s child. The BDSM element seemed pretty novice but that’s because Sloan and Diana had a novice relationship so it worked with the concept. I found this story thoroughly enjoyable.

The Science of Submission by Justine Elyot

In this story, Ailish and Rod’s relationship development was wonderful. The relationship growth from beginning to end was stellar and I was convinced they could be a real living couple. The thing I would have liked to see more of is the physical connection between the two. They did participate in BDSM scenes, but I would liked to have had a bit more intercourse. The story revolved more around the foreplay and build up than the consummation of their relationship. The minor characters also added entertainment to the story.

Away From It All by Elizabeth Coldwell

If I knew I could go to a spa and get the ultimate sexual experience of my life, I would be in a car right now. Alyssa hadn’t anticipated meeting Drew at the spa. In fact, she didn’t want to deal with men at all, but it’s always when you least expect love that it nips you on the bum. I have to say I really appreciated everything about this story from the plot, to the characters, to the candle play, which was a first for me within a story. One aspect of the tale I enjoyed was that the relationship was not forever immediately. Instead it’s a happily for right now. I think it made the storyline more realistic.

The Accidental Sub by Mina Dorian

The beginning of the story was a bit puzzling to me; I mean how do you accidentally make someone a sub? I would have liked to have understood a little more about the mental/emotional state that lead to Catherine accidentally submitting to her co-worker. Other than that, I felt the story was right on target. Jon is the type of Master I can see many woman falling in love with whether they are interested in BDSM or not. He seemed to have an air of confidence without being arrogant that any woman can appreciate. I really enjoyed the subplot with Catherine and her past relationship as well. It added a bit of excitement to the story and made me want to learn more. A great end to a wonderful anthology.

Because of previous experiences with anthologies, I started reading this one expecting at least one story I wouldn’t enjoy. Instead, I found every story entertaining and each could have stood on its own without the others. I was pleasantly surprised by the degree of exceptional writing and I’m sure any reader would enjoy Subspace.

Long and Short Reviews is pleased to welcome Larry Peterson, who is visiting with us as part of his blog tour to celebrate the release of his new YA book, The Priest and the Peaches, a historical novel set in the Bronx in the 1960s. It follows a seven-day journey of the newly orphaned Peach kids as they begin their struggle to remain together as a family. Led by the oldest, Teddy—who is 18—they discover they have no money, the rent and utilities are past due, and they must plan their father’s funeral. The ever-intrusive Beatrice Amon is determined to get the younger boys into a properly supervised environment. Their unexpected circumstances leave them in a world they were not ready for. They do find an ally in the local parish priest, Father Tim Sullivan, who tries his best to guide them through the strange, unchartered and turbulent waters of a grown-up world.

Larry is originally from the Bronx, so the setting of the story came easily for him. I asked him what he liked best about his hometown.

“There is really no other place like it. When you are growing up there, you don’t realize it. It’s home. It’s the way it is. But when you grow up and sort of peek in from the outside you realize what an incredible city it is. The different people, ethnicity, cultural differences, all blending together. Millions of folks
crammed into subways and buses every day , insane traffic jams and, although it is far from perfect, when stuff happens , like 9/11 and the Great Blackout of 1965, New Yorkers join together and help each other and give of themselves. It’s a beautiful thing.”

He has lived in Pinellas Park, Florida, for the past thirty years. He and his wife have a two bedroom home (his kids and grandkids live nearby, but not with them), and he’s converted one bedroom into an office. He has a file cabinet at each end of the long window wall. He bought a ten-foot kitchen counter top with a backsplash and set it between the file cabinets, making a work area. The counter has two computer stands below it.

“I have the monitors and office supplies on the counter and there is a small desk on my right. Papers are strewn all over the place and my poor wife, a quite orderly person, cringes when she peeks in,” he admitted. “It is OK—I know where everything is. I’m lovin’ my little world.”

Larry gets up between 5:30 and 6 every morning, makes coffee, showers, boots up the computer, then checks and cleans up messages. He goes to 7 AM Mass and is home by 7:40. In the perfect world, he tries to write for four or five hours.

“There are distractions that you must attend to,” he explained. “For example, I am in the middle of a three month virtual book tour. It is necessary and takes a lot of time. But I am loving it and an unexpected perk has come from it. Answering so many questions about so many different things has helped me to know myself better, not only as a writer but as a person also. The fact is, I appreciate having this interview to do. It expands me for me.”

When Larry’s not writing, he’s very involved with The St. Vincent de Paul Society. He’s been a member for almost twenty years and works with the poor and homeless. He’s also been recruited and is returning to coaching youth baseball. He and his son have taken on a team of six and seven year olds.

“When did you first consider yourself a writer?” I wondered.

“Since the novel has been released and has received some awesome reviews I am close to believing I am a writer. I never really thought I was any good at it. Mediocre at best. But when people in the business who do not know you give KUDOS to your work it is humbling and also tells you your work is OK. So, I guess that does make me a writer. Now, ain’t that the cat’s pajamas.. Thanks for asking this question. You helped me finally figure it out.”

I asked him what inspired him to write.

“My answer has to be nothing. I just liked doing it. Even as a kid I enjoyed writing stories. I remember kids in school who loved to draw. They just were good at it and liked doing it. What was their inspiration? I guess it was the enjoyment they received from doing it. That leads me to have to retract my nothing answer. I guess many of us, depending on what we discover we like to do, inspire ourselves. That leads us onward to see what others might do in the same area and that results in further inspiration. I guess that’s how it works. “

When he moved to Florida after being diagnosed with MS, he went to college and then started freelancing. One of his jobs was as a columnist for the Pinellas Park News. He met Judson Bailey, the editor/publisher, and he gave Larry the best advice he ever got about writing.

“He had worked for the AP for many years and his home base had been NYC. He was quite the character. He had a huge mane of white hair and huge white eyebrows. He wore a white cowboy hat and always seemed to have his feet propped up on his desk, his red-cowboy boots with the silver,
metal tips staring at you. He also smoked a corn-cob pipe. I am not making this up,” he assured me. “Anyway, he liked my work (most of it was tongue-in-cheek stuff about family and also satire). I wrote a column a week and he never edited anything. But he said to me, ‘Petie,’ (he called me Petie) ‘always be yourself. You have a unique way of saying things. Don’t let anyone change you.’ I never forgot that.”

I asked Larry how he came up with the titles to his books.

“I think it is a metamorphosis. My first book, Slippery Willie’s Stupid, Ugly Shoes was originally Willie Wiggles. It morphed into Little Willie Wiggles and, by the time it was published, it was Slippery Willie’s Stupid, Ugly Shoes. The Priest and The Peaches went through the same process. It was A Bronx Funeral and The Best Damn Funeral Ever. Once the priest, Father Sullivan, appeared and became a primary character it became The Priest and The Peaches.”
