Alicia was barely a bride before her husband Reys left on Crusade, and she has waited six years for any word on his whereabouts. Without a strong lord, the castle is in a precarious position and it is only a matter of time until the king orders her to remarry or tries to take the keep by force.

When a mysterious hooded minstrel shows up at the castle, the man’s furtive actions lead Alicia to believe he is a spy. She confronts him—and discovers he is no stranger. Reys is scarred emotionally and physically by his years in a foreign prison. Now both are left wondering if there is a future for them or if the love they once shared is gone forever.

Against all odds, she kept her faith that he would come home to her. Alicia and Reys were wed a short time before duty to the king called him away to a distant land. Alicia was left all alone to handle her own new duties, managing Reys castle. She kept her faith that God would see him through his holy mission and bring him safely home to her. Yet as the years passed without any word or sign that he was safe, it became harder for her to cope. One night a mysterious man shows up and his behavior makes her suspicious. However, this is not just any vagrant. Love and light are about to re-enter Alicia’s life.

Alicia is a very strong woman yet not so strong that one cannot connect with her. I found her very easy to relate to and I liked her very much. One cannot help but feel sympathy for her plight, a young bride isolated from others by her social position yet having no broad shoulder to lean on. It’s easy to admire her. Reys is sexy, tender and strong, the husband a woman would dream of. He’s very good at love talk.

When they finally reconnect, the sex is romantic, breathtakingly intimate and sensual. Ms. Walters imbues the scene with much emotion. A thoroughly satisfying reunion scene.

This is a very short story but it’s everything a short erotic novella should be. The characters are well developed and the plot is focused close on their erotic and romantic conflict. I enjoyed this tale very much and look forward to reading others by Ms. Walters. Sweet, sexy and romantic. A perfect quick read.

To keep her job, Sarah Hart needs a sizzling article for her romance column. While on vacation in Hawaii, she grabs the first handsome tourist on Waikiki Beach, and makes him a deal. She’ll set him up on a few dates, all expenses paid, and watch him fall in love. Then she’ll take his story, say sayonara, and still have a job. But Keith Hanover is no player, he’d rather charm Sarah. His deal is if she can’t find him true love, than she must meet him on Sunset Beach for a date.

Her search for his perfect match begins an unruly adventure of close talkers, criers and a few Abbey-normals. There’s shark diving, a mad scientist, crazy roadside fruit stand kids, Dole ice cream lickers, and paparazzi. Will Keith even make it to the date with Sarah before running from her set-ups?

Just because you’re a reporter doesn’t mean you can see what’s right under your nose. Like most of us non-journalist types, Sarah is so focused on her “mission” she fails to see what’s really going on around her.

Now, I’m not saying that being in Hawaii and being hit on by an aggressive “open” couple as well as scouting for new romance stories isn’t enough to make any of us miss a few things, but we’re fortunate as the readers to be able to see everything (or at least re-read and catch everything!)

Sarah finds Keith and thinks she can turn him into her job-saving column – but Keith thinks otherwise. Hilarity ensues, as does confusion, heartbreak and some pretty steamy scenes.

One of the nicest parts of the story are the secondary characters. They are each an integral piece of the story and allow our hero and heroine to grow. I must say I enjoyed Sarah’s cab driver; his role in Sarah and Keith’s lives was amusing and, dare I say, sweet.

At the risk of spoiling the story, I will say, three separate times I thought the story was over. Ms. Loy surprised me by continuing. In one respect, it was nice to keep the characters around and enjoy being in their lives for “just a little while longer”. On the other hand, this story is such a roller-coaster, sometimes I felt the need to “step off” for a little while.

Fast-paced and full of twists and turns, this is definitely a story you will want to make time to read.

Something old, something blue, something deadly…what else is new?

Secret McQueen, Book 4

It’s a nice day for a white wedding. At least that’s what Secret McQueen is hoping for, with her poofy-princess-dress marriage to a werewolf king looming closer and closer by the day. But as ever, nothing can be that easy for a vampire/werewolf hybrid for whom someone still harbors a death wish.

Summoned to the south by her werewolf uncle, who makes no bones about the fact her mate bond with Lucas doesn’t pass muster, Secret learns her furry heritage looks more like a tangled vine than a family tree. Getting her royal uncle’s blessing hinges on finding one of the missing twigs. Even with vampire sentry Holden Chancery at her side, she manages to land up to her neck in a swamp of trouble.

As an assassin’s scope zeroes in, family dramas boil up and a fast-collapsing love square threatens to bury her alive, making it to the church on time could be the least of Secret’s problems.

Secret McQueen-half vampire, half werewolf, is all bite and no bark. Mated to the King of the Eastern Werewolves, her wedding to Lucas Rain is fast approaching. The only problem is someone is trying to make sure she never walks down that aisle. To complicate matters, Secret’s uncle, King of the Southern wolves, has decided that Secret and Lucas must visit Louisiana and get his approval. And then there’s her position as one of the three most powerful vampires in New York, the exalted Vampire council triad of leaders. As the attempts on Secret’s life keep coming, Can she and Lucas ever make it down the aisle and present the united front the pack needs? Can Secret discover who’s behind the plot to kill her, before one of the hit men actually succeeds? And what about her debt to her former mentor, Holden Chancery?

Sierra Dean has built a fantastic world filled with danger, passion and trouble around every turn. The characters are like old friends after four books, and I love watching as these characters interact and grow in their roles. The intertwined destinies of the characters are complex and well written, and I look forward to seeing where Ms. Dean takes Secret next.

Secret McQueen is a very unique woman; half vampire and half werewolf, she’s passionate, strong and extremely loyal to her friends and family. She’s willing to face whatever comes her way with a huge dose of sassy sarcasm and wit, and more than a little courage. I enjoyed watching her face the worst of her fears in this book-the dreaded wedding planner! Her adventures in bridal traditions are all terrific fun. And her solutions to many of the problems is such a great twist.

The men in this one are all strong and deliciously gorgeous. Lucas Rain is the rich and powerful King of the Eastern wolves, and Secret’s mated other half. Desmond Alverez is the wolf Secret loves and he’s Lucas’ lieutenant in the pack. He’s light to Lucas’ dark, and both are hot, strong and sexy. Then there is vampire Holden Chancery, a man who is as drawn to Secret as either of her wolves. I enjoy watching as each of these men tried in their own way to win Secret and make her theirs. They each have strong personalities, and sometimes they all clash over who will be with Secret.

There are several stories running through this one, but all converge toward the end for a very surprising and unexpected turn of events. This is definitely not the book in this series to start with, and I recommend that these be read in the order they are written for best results. Does Secret get her happy ever after and her ‘white wedding’? All I will say is you must read Keeping Secret to find out.

Wedding dress designer Sarah Harper’s best friend is getting married and Sophie has been asked to design the dress. When she discovers it means getting on a plane for Paris, all her flying fears spring to life. But this is for her best friend, Hannah, and the notoriety of designing a dress for the bride of one of France’s nobility is an opportunity Sarah can’t pass up. Even if it means sitting beside an off-duty pilot. Sophie swore off pilots when she left her ex, but her seatmate’s touch and spicy scent makes her forget all about the flight, and her promise. She blames the medication her doctor gave her and her naughty dreams on what happens just before landing. Could she be any more mortified?

Trey Chasen is finally taking some well-deserved time off and uses his friend’s engagement as an excuse to see Paris. At first, Trey lamented the loss of another jet-setter to the arms of a good woman, but he soon feels something is missing in his own life. When he meets his seatmate on the flight to Paris, his interest is instantly sparked, yet not in a way he’s used to. Using her fear of flying as an excuse to soothe her, he discovers he wants to get to know this pixie of a woman better. He just didn’t expect it would be so soon, or during the flight.

When the two realize their destinations are the same, it’s Hannah and Damien who set Sarah and Trey straight about the important things in life. Can Sarah put aside her trouble with pilots to find love? Trey likes is a challenge, and before Sarah returns to the States, he’s going to make sure he proves to her that pilots aren’t trouble but worth loving.

I didn’t know when I chose it, The Trouble with Pilots, is Ms. Ahler’s 2nd book in the series, but that said, the story reads very well as a stand-alone novella. The author has managed to pack a well constructed and pleasant read into less than thirty pages.

I did have trouble, as the story unfolded, understanding why her heroine, Sarah, a wedding dress designer, had so much fear of flying. But perhaps that was explained in the previous book.

As for her dream during the flight? Well, *smiles* that was some dream! I have to say Trey was a real gentleman.

Ms. Ahlers offers a feisty and believable character in Sarah, and also with her hero, Trey. Sadly, as far as Sarah is concerned he has one strike against him before he starts, simply because he’s a pilot, so he’s got a lot of work to do to convince Sarah to change her mind about him. The author takes the reader into Trey’s mind and emotions with great skill, given the lack of story length she had to do it in.

Although her timeline is tight, the author manages to stretch it to acceptable and believable lengths before the end of the read, which in this reader’s view adds to the charm of the story.

This short and delightful story is enough to pick up when ‘me’ time is scarce and limited. It’s not a ‘deep’ story, none-the-less it is an ideal, ‘feel-good-tale’ to consider dipping into if you have some spare time during a stressful day.

She never wanted marriage…

When a friend is forced to consider a marriage of convenience, Lady Amelia Staunton is determined to rescue her. But her plans trap her in an illicit seduction, and Amelia must marry him herself. Malcolm’s all-consuming kisses and devilish humor might make up for her lost freedom, but she believes he will force her to abandon the Gothic romances she yearns to write. Since she can’t escape him, she must distract him from her secret…

He isn’t looking for love…

A powerful autocrat with a well-hidden rebellious streak, Malcolm MacCabe doesn’t need another beautiful mistress – he needs an obedient wife. Obedience is not one of Amelia’s virtues. But he’s too enthralled by her wit and passion to let her go – even if it means risking the political reputation he is building to save his clan.

Their hearts can’t survive the scandal…

Despite their intentions, every wicked embrace binds them together. But as their conflicting desires combust into insatiable hunger and unavoidable ruin, they must decide whether to pursue their personal destinies alone – or fight for the love that could destroy them both.

‘The best laid plans’ suffer a fatal blow when Lady Amelia Staunton’s scheming and meddling to help her friend Prudence goes awry. Late at night in the old Scottish castle library, Malcolm MacCabe, Lord of Carnach, kisses Amelia at a fateful time. Not only Prudence, whom Malcolm had planned to offer for, but also Alex, Amelia’s brother, sees the kiss. Now, as Granddad would say, “the fat’s in the fire”. No shrinking violets in this cast of characters, and what an exciting vicarious experience they invite the reader to enjoy.

Amelia and Prudence’s friendship in severely strained if not totally broken; Prudence’s plan to marry for financial security is dashed; Amelia’s plan for independence and freedom to write her novels is in jeopardy; Malcolm’s plan–to marry an obedient wife to bear his heir, be a perfect hostess to promote his plan to gain power in Parliament and to use that power to help his people–takes a direct hit. What a mess all over ONE kiss!

Amelia can be “propriety deluxe” with icy perfection, constrained, contained, unattainable, and “unconquerable”, but only for so long because in truth, she, and most everyone else, knows she’s headstrong, meddlesome, too witty, opinionated, sarcastic, independent, certainly not obedient; and even though she has a good heart she has a bad temper plus secrets that could ruin her and make Malcolm the laughingstock of London ton. Oh, yes, she is a delicious heroine.

Malcolm tells himself that “duty and fidelity” is first and distractions are not welcome, but Amelia is a distraction that heats his blood. He would have fit right in with his ancestors who fought other clans and the English. He’s a warrior and an autocratic at times, but has a hint of ”reiver” in him. All his stern talks to himself about duty first seems to fall on deaf ears when it comes to the misfit for a wife—Amelia—she has really mucked things up. She has his mind, heart and other parts on full alert. But does he have the right to the joy she gives him rather than using his all to help his clansmen?

Sara Ramsey makes Scotsmen Prefer Blondes throb with life. The sparkling humor, sensual, sizzling love scenes (my gracious, do they rev up the heart rate!), dialogue that keeps the reader on full alert, the undercurrent of suspense, compelling descriptions of people and places, plus characters so strong they almost jump off the pages with energy and determination keeps one turning pages.

The secondary characters help propel the action along at a breathtaking pace at times. If you have read the first book in this series Heiress Without a Cause, You will recognize many of the characters. They all have their own secrets, flaws, and foibles that help make Scotsmen Prefer Blondes intriguing. This one is a keeper, just as is the first novel. I’m looking forward to the next one entitled The Marquess Who Loved Me. Sara Ramsey’s characters captivate and are fun to spend time with.

Their love breaks all bounds. Richard is lord of Wykeford—and Eleanor’s lord. She is a former bondswoman, now free. When they meet, their lives change forever as a love that can’t be denied burns between them. She is strong and fierce. He is a gentle warrior. Together, they fight for their future against all odds.

But there is one in the lord’s household who’s not pleased and who will stop at nothing to break Richard and Eleanor apart, even at the cost of murder.

The clever beginning of The Lord and Eleanor, with the mention of ‘rope burns’, pulled me right into the story instantly. Why rope burns?  I needed to know more.

Ms. Townsend’s gentle writing style makes perfect sense of this intriguing beginning to her story and in few words paints a picture of Eleanor, her heroine, strong in adversity, caring beyond measure and prepared to stand up for her rights against deep seated prejudice.

Cleverly, she depicted Richard, her hero and local Lord, as a man ‘wanting’ and for a few moments I wondered how the author intended to take the reader over the gap between ‘wanting’ and loving. I need not have worried. Richard has loved and lost and has a caring and instinctive nature that recognizes his interest for Eleanor as what it is; the stirring of something far stronger than lust.

The small community and all the prejudices that come with such an environment, are woven into the plot, as is the antagonist. The Lord and Eleanor is short and packs in a lot of detail, emotion and tension and if I have a small nit to pick with Ms. Townsend’s story it’s the outcome of the antagonist; unless, that is, she intends to bring him into another story.

Ms. Townsend paints vivid word pictures of her settings, and weaves action and emotions into them with apparent ease.

The secondary characters, including the children all have their parts to play, to carry the story forward and the bonding between the children was utterly believable.

The author left this reader sighing with satisfaction and closing the book with the word ‘charming’ running through my mind.

The right kind of pain…

Terribly insecure Anthony Reed believes he’s undesirable, so when the hottest guy in school hits on him, he figures it must be a joke. How could anyone want a guy with a head like a jar, the big, brown eyes of Bambi, and the body of Rambo? Who would want a freak who’s turned on by pain?

Determined to show Anthony just how hot he is, Kevin Henderson goes after the gentle giant with everything he’s got, and his assets are considerable. Kevin knows just how to press the sweet, sexy linebacker’s buttons, and soon the two are inseparable.

When things get too intense, and Kevin’s own insecurities and secrets are exposed, Kevin realizes they have more in common than just a need for kinky sex. Anthony thinks of himself as worthless, but Kevin needs to show him that he’s worth everything. The trick is loving himself completely first.

Breaking down the walls around each other’s hearts draws them deeper into an indestructible bond. But will they be able to let the past go and join their brethren in the Twin Pines Grizzlies, or will they retreat into solitary safety?

Sexy football players seducing one another, what more could a reader ask for?

Anthony and Kevin really seem to complement each other well. This isn’t only because Anthony’s a natural submissive, while Kevin lives for dominating his partners. It’s because they bring out the best in one another, and make each want to be a better man. Even when they don’t recognize that they need mending they seem to help one another, and that’s what a truly special relationship is all about. It’s also what let me know that no matter what, these two will be together for a long happy lifetime.

While there is a slight paranormal element to this story, it really doesn’t play a prominent role in the development of the storyline or characters. Personally, I would have liked for it to have had a larger impact on the storyline. All it really did was leave me confused on why it mattered at all. I wonder if it’ll be explained in later stories.

While this story is the fifth of the series, it read fine as a stand alone. I had not even realized there were previous stories written until the paranormal element was introduced. I appreciated how easy it was to jump right in and not feel left out of the characters’ lives, especially because I quickly become fascinated with them and wanted more and more. Though this is the first story I’ve read by this author and this series, I suspect Anitra Lynn McLeod is a author name I’ll be looking for when deciding what to read next.

Can having wild sex in a lift with a gorgeous stranger a bad thing? It is when that man turns out to be the CEO of the company you work for and he is the last man you want having any control over you. Being all hot naked and sexy with the CEO is not exactly a career move – especially not in public, screaming your lungs out as you come.

When Justin Hale teaches Miranda Marshall a steamy lesson about who is the boss, Miranda is more than happy to pay him back in kind. The game is on. Just how in control is the boss? Can she bring him to his knees without falling hopelessly to her own? After all, this has nothing to do with love. It’s just toe curling sex…isn’t it? And Miranda certainly does not want the whole office to know what she and Justin Hale are doing.

But someone does know. It’s the same person who has been causing chaos in the office for months. Is this person the office Robin Hood or are they out for revenge with Miranda in his sights?

Miranda “Rand” Marshall is about to rock the new CEO’s world. If only she could keep her eyes off the hunky guy walking ahead of her. Sex needs to be a higher priority in the future, because this guy is nothing like what she needs, but there’s something that keeps drawing her eyes to him. And yet, he seems to be going the same way as her, so a little looking won’t do any harm, at least until they part ways. Then disaster hits, the lift stops working, and the tables turn on Miranda. Her world is the one getting rocked, by none other than Justin Hale her new CEO and current number one enemy. She knows it isn’t the best idea to keep sleeping with him but she keeps coming back and just can’t seem to get enough. But danger is lurking in the shadows, and accidents start to happen. While these two get closer to each other a mad man is out to get Rand and bring her down. Can Justin stop him in time or will he lose Rand to this madman before she knows how he feels?

Justin Hale hates being in Brisbane, Australia. And yet the more he hears about the problems Rand Marshall is causing at his call center the more that he’s liking this unplanned detour. She’s nothing like the women he’s been attracted to in the past, and yet he can’t get enough of her. It’s wrong and yet this attraction feels so good. Surely a little bad could be a good thing in the end. When the threats on his company turn to Rand in particular, Justin is willing to do anything to keep her safe, but can he find the mad man in time to save the girl?

While the beginning of this story left me a bit confused with the order in which I was introduced to the main characters the more I read the better things got. I was disappointed to note several editing goofs because they tended to pull me from the flow of the story, but I was still able to enjoy reading this saucy book. I loved the suspense element of this one, and the tying in of the real life characters/situations made this book enjoyable.

Amarinda Jones is a new to me author, and she’s one who I’ll read again in the future. If you’re looking for a good romance story with some nice suspense and great, smoking hot sex then this is a book you’ll definitely want to pick up.

There exists a secret society where one’s ability to travel through time is “gifted” to members only by blood. Those who try to enter the society quickly come to realize that time is a force not to be reckoned with. Alexandra Monir’s short story exclusive ebook, Secrets of the Time Society, sheds light upon the world created in her novel Timeless and forecasts the fate that lies ahead for its protagonist, Michele Windsor. Now that Michele is gifted, there are some who will do anything to take that power away.

What could such a scary and strange dream mean? Sixteen-year-old Michele wakes up startled in her grandparents’ mansion.

Secrets of the Time Society is a bridge, a short story, interesting on its own. It adds information and tension to the novel Timeless, answering some of the questions presented there. It also prepares readers for the next novel in the series expected to be published later this year.

This tale introduces a villain, Rebecca, an antagonist to match Michele. Readers now worry a bit more for the heroine. Rebecca is devious and selfish. She’s smart and could seriously hurt Michele’s chances of happiness. Her character is clearly drawn, making it easy to visualize her and her nature.

The fantasy setting of the Time Society’s headquarters is done well. It’s remarkable and descriptive. We meet other time travelers. What’s also attention grabbing for those who have read Timeless is the revisitation to a scene from that book, but from the perspective of the new antagonist.

It’s a good little story, and the new developments set things up for the next book in the series. While I would have liked to have had a chance to see a bit more of Michele and Philip, this story was obviously meant to introduce Rebecca. Readers will just have to wait to see if they find each other across time again. Having read the first book, the second novel is greatly anticipated.

For a ten-minute or so read filled with twists, check out Secrets of the Time Society. But I recommended you first read the wonderful novel that comes before it, Timelesss, to get a full appreciation of how this all came about and where it might be going.

The storm makes this story even more atmospheric and ups the tension level. I really enjoyed the last ten pages and felt like I had to keep reading. It has a satisfying ending and my only complaint…it ended too soon. I would have loved to have seen this story extended into a full length novel.

If you like suspense with just a dash of romance and haven’t got time for a full length mystery, I recommend this one to you. I’ll be looking out for more books by the author and the Moonlight Mystery titles.
