This is a fictional invention created to convey a non-fiction, social-political message…

Can a letter change humanity’s destiny?

The premise of this tale caught my attention right way. I really liked the creativity the author showed by writing the entire thing in the form of a letter. There were times when I had to read between the lines in order to understand what had recently been going on between Utusan, the person who wrote the letter, and Ka-tulong. It was entertaining to figure those sections out as they made me curious to know more about the world these characters lived in.

The run-on sentences made it difficult to understand. There were times when I needed to read the same passage over again a few times to understand what the main character was trying to communicate. While I understand that the protagonist was writing in a flowery and stylized way, it would have been a lot easier to get what he was saying if some of his sentences had been shorter.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story were all of the references to things have have recently happened it included. Mentioning specific politicians and events made Utusan’s update on the status of humanity even more powerful than it would have been otherwise. This was a very good decision on Mr. Farinha’s part. The preface said there is a full length book coming about these characters, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this snapshot of their lives is expanded there.

Transcendence: First Letter to Ka-tulong was a highly imaginative piece of writing that I’d recommend to anyone who likes the science fiction genre.

It is 1810 somewhere in the chaos of war-ravaged Napoleonic Portugal. Miss Charlotte Everslea, dedicated member of an ancient secretive Guild and skilled paranormal artefacts hunter, has found herself trapped behind enemy lines. Colonel Maximillian Bladewood is used to giving orders and having them obeyed, both on and off the battlefield. But the petite golden-haired hoyden, to whose accidental intervention he owes his life, challenges both his authority and his sanity. Their cross-purposed journey will reach a crossroad where one or both of them will need to compromise.

Enjoy an Excerpt:

When Charlotte met Maxmillian

He was still holding her, and she wasn’t quite sure what to do next. There was a pause as she felt him lean back a little, probably trying to catch a glimpse of her face. It was extremely silly, but despite everything she had already faced, she couldn’t look him in the eye, couldn’t bear him seeing the red puffy proof of her crying.

“I wish I had a handkerchief to offer.” The deep quiet voice above her head paused, “Sadly, mine are with my dress uniform in a supply wagon, somewhere on the other side of this battlefield I should think.”

She was grateful for his attempt to invoke the humour and even a little civility to their situation.

“I most sincerely apologise, Sir.” Heavens above, her voice came out as a wavering snuffle. She could absolutely not look up.

He neither moved nor answered for some long moments. She felt a little trill of something like panic building in her chest. When he did speak, the words were all gentleness, despite the dust roughened rasp.

“It is of no consequence Madam. I think that we find ourselves in an unusual situation.” He cleared his throat before adding quietly, “I have seen strong men break down and weep after a battle. There is no shame in this.”

The little alarm that had been building evaporated. She still stood inside his arms. He had made no attempt to release her, but then neither had she made any sign that she wished it. Suddenly realising she needed to do exactly that, she stiffened in his arms and gave the barest push with her hands. Was it her imagination, or was there a moment of hesitation before he let her go? With an unsettling mix of relief and regret she stepped away, head averted to avoid his gaze. She was glad there was no witness to their strange introduction. What an impression she was making.

“Nevertheless, I apologise for such a display.”

“Please do not berate yourself for such a social lapse. Not here… in this Godless place.”

A dark shadow rises.

San Francisco in 1885 was a dangerous place for those who crossed Colin Doyle. To Nob Hill elite he was a successful businessman. To the underbelly of San Francisco he was The Mick, a criminal mastermind ruling from the shadows. If a buyer’s tastes ran to opium, a whore, or a politician, The Mick could name a price. No one who betrayed him ever escaped the city alive.

Until now.

Anyway, with having strong reaction power, most commonly used erectile dysfunction drug available on the market. cialis super active is composed of active component Sildenafil Citrate. She’s on the run to the Arizona Territory with the one witness who can expose Doyle’s corrupt empire and stop the plan to extend his evil dominion to the West.

Marshal Sam Tanner of Spirit Ridge in the Arizona Territory fought the visions sent by his Apache blood. They always foretold a death he couldn’t prevent. Then Sam dreamed of the coyote with golden brown eyes who warned of a black shadow spreading evil across the land. Did the message call him to help the beautiful woman who stepped off the stagecoach? Can Sam and Nell elude the mysterious dark riders who dog their trail or will the next vision mean death for both of them?

Adventure, romance, humor, and the call of Apache spirits weave together a Wild West adventure where either murder or justice can come at the twitch of a trigger finger.

Nell has never been one to back down from a battle, but will her next clash cost her life?

I liked Nell from the moment I started reading. She’s feisty, smart, compassionate, and resourceful. Nell is an extraordinary woman forging a unique path for herself in life as she uses her position as a reporter to expose criminals and those who take advantage of others. Unfortunately, Nell’s latest target, businessman Colin Doyle, might be her last. His scheme is far more nefarious than Nell ever imagined, and Doyle has the resources to pull it off.

As Nell pursues Doyle, her path becomes tangled with Sam’s. Their attraction to each other is clear right from the start despite Nell’s unusual disguise. They work very well together and it immediately became clear to me that they would make a great couple. Nell and Sam find themselves in some pretty dangerous and intense situations, but when Sam has a quiet moment with Nell, he lays his feelings out in the open immediately. However, Nell isn’t quite ready to surrender her heart for fear of losing her identity and independence. Sam proves himself to be a true hero in that moment. He makes his feelings plain, but gives Nell the time and space to make her own decision. Even as Nell tries to push Sam away, it was clear to me that this couple was destined to be together, even if they need a bit of a push from the spirits that guide Sam to make it happen.

Ms. Kelley has a great sense of humor that shines through in the dialogue of various characters, particularly Daisy, a delightful secondary character well on her way to becoming Nell’s best friend. Daisy’s colorful interjections are always good for a laugh.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Spirit Ridge. Nell and Sam are wonderful characters, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to follow them on their adventures. Fans of historical romance will certainly want to pick up a copy of this fast paced romance today.

Aleksandr Zorin is a sadistic psychopath and one of the most prolific killers in United States’ history. Exploiting the flaws in an ineffective ViCAP database, he has remained invisible for nearly fifteen years. No one knows he exists. But that’s about to change in a horrifying way.

Special Agent Nicholas Keegan is a forensic criminologist working for the FBI’s Violent Crimes Squad in Minnesota. An expert in the field of abnormal psychology, he employs his unique expertise to profile and capture society’s most dangerous and violent offenders. An unusual case sent his way from a friend in California sets Nick on the path of a killer unlike any he’s ever faced.

Get ready to stay awake at night!

Nick Keegan is a veteran FBI agent on the trail of one of the century’s most prolific and graphic serial killers. Initially the scenes stack up and there are very few clues, modifications to the ViCAP database reveal scores of more victims all attributed to this one serial killer.

Chaos is an amazing story about a veteran FBI agent and a startling veteran serial killer. When their two paths meet, chaos ensues. Right from the beginning the reader will be immersed in detail and graphic visualizations of both the crime scenes and the deep lives of the characters. The author does an astounding job at plotting the backstory for each character and interweaving it through from past to present. Everyone has scars to bear and a history that adds depth and complexity to the overall story.

The great plot, deep backstories and strong descriptions make the world of the characters become immersive for the reader. It is advisable that the reader have some background in the criminal justice world when reading the book since there are many acronyms and descriptions that can be difficult and may detract from the overall enjoyment of the story if the reader is not familiar. This is not anything that cannot be looked up easily on the internet, but it may bother some readers. Also, the graphic descriptions of the deaths of victims and in some instances the torture of victims may disturb some readers. Do not let the high number of pages dissuade reading, the text in the electronic version of the book is very large, which makes reading very easy on the eyes, but makes for a higher page count then one would normally see.

Overall, Chaos was a fantastic read and one that you do not want to miss. Be aware though, the deep psychology and human nature portion of the book may make it so that you have a difficult time falling asleep at night!

After leaving their community due to an altercation with their shifting council, Alric and Sam, wolf shifters and mates, start their new life on their own terms. But when Dalia, a lost and injured female wolf shifter, pleads for help on their doorstep, the two wolves know they can’t turn her away. She’s hurt, scared…and their mate. With Dalia under their care, it takes everything in their power to curb the beasts inside that demand they claim her.

Running from an abusive past, Dalia will take help in any form. When she finds a cabin in the middle of nowhere, she hopes the inhabitant is her salvation, at least for the time being. What she didn’t expect to find were two savagely attractive wolf shifters who are her mates. Voracious was a story line that I have read before but with the nice surprise of having characters who are memorable.

This is a short story, very well brought together and kept me in the story until the end. One thing that captured me is that this book sounded like a series, but unfortunately, it is not.

The main thing that kept this from being a truly fantastic book is that the background story seemed incomplete. I wanted to know more about how Alric and Sam came together and more about the pack they came from.

When Alric and Sam, mates and lovers, find Dalia in the front of their doorstep they’re surprised. They finally found what has been missing all these years. But their mate is in danger. The story quickly evolves but, for me, it was the perfect speed for a short story.

Alric is the Alpha and Sam the submissive in the relationship, however the relationship between them morphs into both of them becoming protectors with a few other surprising changes. The passion and chemistry between all of them was off the charts hot!

Try this one if you like a short paranormal erotic story with a bit of suspense and romance.

Highland Vixen has two main characters but many other important secondary characters. It was not just a story about Marcus and Helen. The side stories were just as engaging as the main plot. The way the author weaves them into the main story, though, made them important and not just page filler.

Highland Vixen can be read as a stand-alone. But since I read it, I do know that I want to read more of this series. One thing that I learned over the years is that Mary Wine is a must-read author.

After reading this book, I have an idea of who the main characters in the next book may be. I do know for sure that the book will be great and worth it for any reader who enjoys historical romance.

Unyielding by Ravenna Tate hooked and intrigued me from the start. Two people standing at the altar that did not want to get married: why?

Sadly, though Ms. Tate’s writing is excellent and I could easily immerse myself in the story, the book is riddled with distracting editing errors that interrupted the flow.

Furthermore, Unyielding is marketed as Dark Romance, but I really didn’t think it fit the bill. Sure, the hero, Merrick, had a few secrets, but I found him mild compared to other books. However, his overall sexiness and personality (demanding, yet caring, stands up for his wife, etc. ), made me fall for him. He’s well portrayed and his reasons for doing things the way he does makes sense.

As for the heroine, Lynda, I struggled with her actions. At times, she appeared to be weak, like a maiden in distress that needed saving. This contradicted what Ms. Tate was trying to portray: a strong independent woman that had gotten over her traumas, and set up her own successful business, etc. Not to mention, I had a hard time coping with her decision to help her family after all they’d done to her. Perhaps, a little more insight into her would have helped me understand her motivations.

Nonetheless, Unyielding was an entertaining and hot book. The sex was well described and sizzling. I particularly loved the spanking scene between the characters. Having the heroine cry as a result, instead of simply achieving a magical subspace, made it very real for me.

In conclusion, Unyielding by Ravenna Tate was an entertaining read. I’ll be looking for the next book in her Tortured Love series.

A nice hot, forbidden fling with her boss…what can possibly go wrong?

Jolie was ready to accept just one night of hot kinky sex, but when Richard pulls the boss card the very next morning, everything changes—she’s finally his.

Staying late to work never had so many benefits.

Jolie is a dedicated and hardworking woman. When she accidentally sends an email, meant for her best friend, to her boss, everything changes.

She had been drooling over her boss for a long time. So was every other woman in her office. What she never considered was that he could be attracted to her, too.

Jolie and Richard have a “singe the sheets” kind of chemistry that just gets hotter with the turn of a page. Jolie’s character is very relatable. She’s normal looking, not tall and skinny like her co-worker, who loves to flaunt that fact. It was easy to get caught in the romance of the story (as well as the sexual chemistry) and swept up to the last pages.

The one thing was that this book was too short. I wanted just one more page, one more chapter, okay lots more chapters. I could have stayed with Jolie and Richard well beyond the last page. It’s a simple trope, been done many times, but the characters held their own and I wanted to see where the author would take their relationship. How would it evolve? Would it last?

This is a quick read but one that will have me reaching for another book by Ms. O’Connor real soon.

Eight years ago, twenty-nine year old slayer Fiona Wesley was turned into a vampire. She survived her transformation but carries the nightmares and scars from the attack. Now, not only is she facing the beasts that turned her, but also the one slayer that’s given her nightmares. A slayer that was once her best friend. All of that just as she’s taking her first steps into the arms of the man she loves.

Though the title says book one of Fiona Wesley at the end of the story it states that this is a retelling of the The Damned from Fiona’s point of view and that this book is roughly three-quarters of the original. This may explain why I was lost and felt that something was missing while reading.

Regardless that the story is written well with good editing, the plot seemed to be all over the place. The story starts with Fiona tracking a Damned in San Francisco, then back home to learn Geneva is being hunted. Soon the focus was on her attraction to Mads. Then The Ripper (Tuck) is introduced. Tuck is someone Fiona used to know. And then Geneva’s and Fiona’s past is told through a flashback. Before the sudden ending Fiona is having relations with Mads. See? Kind of random.

I found the book a struggle to follow but that can mostly be attributed to the face that there was more telling and than actual action. The story isn’t a total loss, though. For someone who is a fan, who follows the author’s series, it’s likely the story line will be an easy one to follow. The author does a good job of defining and explaining the various types of vampire classification names such as Damned, slayer, vampyr and strigoi. The story is short but has several characters and each seems to have their own back story in how they were turned and what happened afterward.

Despite the fact that this isn’t one that I would necessarily re-read, it is written very well and the ending leaves potential in continuing Fiona’s story. A reader who enjoys a close knit vampire family will be sure to enjoy this interesting start of a series.
