BMW’s Excellent Adventure

Time travel is a double edged sword of awesomeness and disaster. The idea of stepping outside of it, while tempting on the outside, would be nothing but a miserably (if not gooey) inside of bad decisions and wrong turns. Much like life, the notion presents its good and its bad, the yin and the yang, of how to prioritize the responsibility and wants of such a vast undertaking. I have often dreamed of taming a pair of velociraptors to keep as pets, but the actual idea of doing that is so ridiculous it isn’t even workable. Call me a skeptic but until recently I have always thought of time travel as best left to fiction authors. But then I started doing this tour, and when (inevitably) every interview question ended up being ‘What time would YOU travel to?’ I actually gave the matter some thought to surprising results.

It has always bothered me that we as a civilization lost what came before written recorded history. Scientists estimate that human beings in our current form have been walking the Earth for near 100,000 years, yet we have but 6,000 years of recorded history to our wall of fame. Notice any discrepancy here? Most historians will give you the dull, dry answer that before written history, we as human beings were nomadic, or simply told stories and lessons via oral traditions. This leaves a wide berth for speculation.

How many empires were built, to what extend did they reach, and how did they each fall? Were there legendary heroes, long forgotten to time due to the passing of all whom whispered their names? What of villains, or warlords, or conspiring kings, queens, or whatever the leadership called themselves; how did they solve issues that we as a species still struggle with in the 21st century, like monogamy, crime, or religion. And speaking of religion, how many have been lost to the ages? Gilgamesh gave scholars so much to dote upon that few have bothered to ask what possibly could have been its competition. It’s been suggested to me that I’m not writing correctly unless at least ten percent of those who read it absolutely hate what I create. So, by that theory ten percent of ancient Sumerians were looking elsewhere for entertainment than the Epic of Gilgamesh. But where?!

I have received my share of correspondence with those who disagree with my quest on religious grounds. While I respect your right to practice your religion in its own space, I will fight tooth and nail to deter the ignorant, fear based culture that certain individuals champion behind the banner of ‘religion’. Too often the price of progress is paid with the suffrage of those who go against the grain of widely held, yet little verified public thought.

That being said, it would be amazing to walk, all alone, within the confines of a time before mankind inhabited the Earth, or visit the Library of Alexandria before it burnt down. Regardless of the when, the ultimate dream for any historian is to catalogue the unknown in an attempt to make amends with the fragmented pieces of mankind’s past so that it may better understand its shared history moving forward. It’s not always pleasant, but it is necessary, and I fear in our 21st century world of science and technology taking precedent above all else, an often overlooked subject.

MediaKit_BookCover_TimeIsRelativeForAKnightOfTime Meet Rolland Wright – a seventeen year old orphan living out of his car in rural Woodland Hills, California. Aside from grappling with the fact of being abandoned by his drunken father two years previous following his mothers mysterious murder, his life mostly revolves around finding a warm place to sleep at night. When one day he is attacked by men claiming to have killed his father, Rolland discovers a strange ability to slow the flow of time around him, beginning a journey that takes him to places outside of time, space, and eventually to the early 19th century to fight the sinister General Andrew Jackson. With the help of a rag-tag group of historical and mythical figures with various supernatural abilities of their own (Joan of Arc, Jesse James, etc) known as the Knights of Time, Rolland solves the mystery behind his mother’s murder, falls in love, battles the evil Edward Vilthe – reaper of souls, and finds a home of his own in the paradise known as Eden.

The Time is Relative series chronicles the origin story of the mythical figure Father Time, beginning with the award winning first novel, Time is Relative for a Knight of Time. All dates and events are historically accurate. The participants… maybe not.

Enjoy an excerpt:

It was a muggy, humid morning when U.S. General Andrew Jackson woke to the sound of tribal horns. Immediately identifying their purpose, he quickly gathered both his wits and his pants, grabbing his sword and sidearm as he left his tent.

Known to be tough as hickory, Andrew Jackson was a moderately tall man for his time, standing at six feet, one inch. In this and in his military rank he was often compared to George Washington among elite society in Boston, Washington, and New York, despite his humble beginnings.

Jackson’s rigid demeanor was only matched by his sharp attention to detail. His crisply, pressed uniform was such that it demanded the attention of all the company’s men. Each stood at full attention, showing perfect respect for their commanding officer as Jackson made his way through the columns slowly, careful to catch each and every pair of eyes.

“Today we fight like dogs, and live like kings!” Jackson roared to his men, who cheered loudly in response. Their gusto and appreciation for their General’s bravery in the face of danger was not unnoticed by his adversaries on and off the battlefield.

A slave, brought directly from Africa on Jackson’s orders, walked Jackson’s horse to him around the hustle and bustle of preparing for the day’s campaign. A light rain began to fall on the heads and shoulders of every soul under the barely visible sun, uniting them in nature. They all felt the soft droplets as they landed on both white and brown skin alike. Lightning struck diagonally across the gray sky, followed shortly by an attention-stealing clap of thunder that rocked the previously dry Florida landscape.

Olivia promises her dying husband that she will spread his ashes around the world. Landing in Africa, Olivia begins volunteering at an orphanage. After a weekend excursion viewing mountain gorillas, Olivia is unaware of how drastically her life is about to change. Love was never part of her plan . . .

This is an intriguing story about one woman’s journey to fulfill a promise she made to her dying husband, but it becomes so much more than that. It becomes the story of Olivia finding herself and finding a new passion for her life.

Although listed as “spicy” as a heat level, there is only one sexual scene, and it is not descriptive. It is, however, pivotal to the plot of the story. It’s hard to go into detail without getting into spoilers, but suffice it to say that Olivia doesn’t always make the best choices in this story.

The story is told not only from Olivia’s POV but at times from different character’s POV as well. A few of those could have been left out without hurting the main plot, in this reviewer’s opinion. But, they were not enough of a distraction to take away from Olivia’s story.

There is one decision Olivia makes towards the end of the book that some readers might find questionable.  It’s understandable given the circumstances and it’s very much in character with Olivia’s personality, but still made me raise an eyebrow. It was a hard decision.

Over all, the book was easy to read and gave me a new appreciation of Rwanda and Uganda and the troubles they have gone through. Good job.

The Shaughnessy brothers—Aiden in particular—have spent the years since their mother’s untimely death taking care of each other and trying to make their father proud. And Aiden has managed pretty well so far. But his father is starting to worry he’s neglected himself. At the age of thirty-four, he is successful and handsome, and he still has no grandchildren!

Aiden’s met plenty of attractive women over the years, but who has the time? It isn’t until he meets Zoe, a designer on one of his jobs, that he starts realizing he wants something more…

At over Rs.100Cr http://seanamic.com/our-videos/ viagra 25 mg the ED market in India is very big indeed. Who knew that being detailed to the point of obsession would be a turn on for a hero? It helps that he’s a control nut too but to find a woman who ‘got’ him was something the hero, Aiden, simply wasn’t ready for. Zoe blind-sided him and it was beautiful. Poor Aiden, he simply didn’t know how to let go and let someone else who wasn’t family, in. His body sure knew what to do; it just took a while for his brain to catch up. The wild winds of change challenged the hero and made this novel an easy and fun read.

I’d say that Aiden is the character with the most challenges to overcome and they’re all in his head. The family history and dynamic was fascinating. It was the history of the Shaughnessy family that helped me understand what shaped the man that Aiden has become. There’s a lot to respect about the hero and he earns every accolade given. However, he has earned other less than flattering monikers from the townspeople and I was greatly entertained. I liked that aspect of this book – that the community loves the whole Shaughnessy clan, yet they certainly aren’t blind to some of the eccentricities of some of them and that certainly applies to Aiden. There’s no doubt they are cheering for him to fall in love and Zoe is the perfect choice.

I liked Zoe because she doesn’t take any guff from the hero. She puzzles him, confounds him and inflames him, all by just being herself. I liked how she fit in with the Shaughnessy family and her dialogue and actions reflected that.

Aiden sort of runs from his feelings and avid romance readers will recognize that ploy, yet it works in this book. He has this huge chip of responsibility on his shoulders that he’s afraid to let go of. Zoe has no problem with stepping up to the plate and knocking it right off. The internal conflict that results from that is predictable but no less effective and entertaining.

The story includes some heroic acts, blossoming friendships, and a temporary canine that played a role in making the hero imagine a different kind of future, one with his own family. Only the power of the flower will know for sure. I realize that last statement was enigmatic, but it’s a powerful component of the romance.

I liked the family dynamics, the secondary characters, the dialogue and the romance. For the most part, this is a lighthearted story and it’s filled with sweetness, humor and heartfelt emotion. Made For Us is a classically styled romance that is a winner and a definite recommend.

It’s served her well with the dogs she’s given to good homes and the children she’s nannied. Yet the temptation of Matt’s sexy smile might just convince her that some rules are made to be broken.

Matt Dumont doesn’t need his skills as a private investigator to detect disaster on the horizon. Cara is everything he thought he’d never find-gorgeous, funny, and caring. But there’s no way he can start a relationship just as he’s about to move to another state. Talk about bad timing. As their attraction sizzles too hot to deny, they’ll have to make a decision: forget the consequences and let loose, or forget each other and let go…

Cara is probably the most kind hearted woman I have ever read about. What immediately attracted me to the story was her love for animals and dogs particularly, as I am the same way. I had not realized she would be so compassionate, while putting her own life aside. She truly is a remarkable women and very enduring as a character.

Matt is everything you want in a man. He is kind, caring, strong, and a protector of those he loves. He is absolutely adorable both inside and outside. He too has a code of honor just like Cara that is unwaivering. Even when a bit misguided he is doing what he thinks is honorable. He even puts himself out just to try to take care of Cara because he does not want any harm to come to her. This is a couple you will root for from beginning to end.

Cara’s history is not a perfect one, but that along with the case Matt is working play a vital role in the plot of the story. She keeps herself guarded from people, and instead throws herself into rescuing animals. Matt is always looking to find justice for those who have been wronged, no matter the consequences. These facts really help to push these two together in a remarkable way. Now they both just need to open up to one another and realize what they need most in the world is right under each other’s nose.

The romantic development was definitely more important that the physical connection in this story. I appreciated that you could feel the chemistry leaping off the pages without it being overly erotic. It was the simple things that made me realize how much they grew to care for one another. I have always felt that it is the little things that matter in a relationship and these two just prove my theory. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance novel. I for one plan on starting the second installment to this series right now.

She’s his fantasy leading lady…if he can convince her love can be their reality.

Women in Hollywood, Book 2

When aspiring screenwriter Mona Johnson landed a job as assistant to one of Hollywood’s most sought-after movie producers, she planned to use the experience to build her career. She never expected her match made in online-dating heaven to be her boss.

Romance with Terrance Beckham is out of the question. She knows his history. He’s not the commitment type.

His quest to find real love in real time coming up empty, Terrance goes incognito in the virtual world to take his famous name and large bank account out of the equation. Then he discovers the online chat room handle of Ms. Perfect is attached to the woman who brings him coffee.

Disclosing his identity will have to be handled delicately if they’re to face their mutual attraction without preconceived notions. But before they can build a bridge to happiness, they’ll have to overcome obstacles—some labeled “ex”, and others labeled “mom”—that could drive a permanent wedge between them.

Mona Johnson is Terrance’s executive assistant with hopes of becoming a screenwriter. Movie producer Terrance Beckham has had his share of women but now he has his eyes set on one woman. The question is will she be open to trusting him to take their relationship to another level?

I enjoyed reading this novel more so than I thought I would. The chemistry between Mona and Terrance felt real and refreshing. Their ups and downs were kind of tiresome, though. Some of the misunderstandings could have been avoided by more communication and less assuming. Terrence is displayed as a dream man. He is hard working, nice dresser and once he found the woman he wanted he was committed. The attraction between Mona and Terrance made the book enjoyable seeing how they compliments each other.

The twist with Mona’s ex-fiance coming back into the picture made for an interesting story. Mona was too nice and understanding of Garrett’s explanation. I wanted her to question him to see why he took what his mother said and stopped pursuing Mona back then and why now all of a sudden he has it in his mind that they can pick up where they left off.

Garrett added dramatic climax to the story. Terrence’s mom Sara added even more excitement to the book. She was a character that wasn’t to kind to any woman trying to get close to her son. I am glad her fiance has a strong male character to help handle her meddling in Terrance’s affairs.

I enjoyed this novel. The author has a easy to read and follow writing style. The plot was entertaining and kept my interest.

Secret Liaisons is an enjoyable read that is more than your typical romance.

To Chuito the apartment was a self-imposed prison for a lifetime of sins. To Alaine, the girl next door, it was salvation from her overbearing, religious father.

He was a devil.
She was an angel.

Two people who should’ve never met, let alone become friends, but it’s not until they give into the dangerous passion that’s been simmering under the surface for five years that things go to hell.

On the outside, Chuito ‘The Slayer’ Garcia is on top of the world. He’s successful. He’s wealthy. He’s a champion MMA fighter surrounded by friends who support him, but they don’t know what he was before he came to Garnet.

Now his past is churning up demons he can’t ignore. Chuito knows he needs to go back to Miami to end it, but there’s something holding him back, a single temptation he can’t resist before leaving.

Alaine.

She’s the one drug he can’t give up…even if it destroys them both.

“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.” – Chuito Garcia

Kele Moon accomplished something amazing with this book. She created an exciting and suspenseful journey that left me breathless by the end. It immediately captured my interest and easily had me completely lost in Chu and Alaine’s love story. I found myself surprised by the characters, caught up in the emotions, and spellbound by the gritty climax and it’s aftermath. Throughout it all I grew deeply attatched to all of the characters, and honestly hated saying goodbye. Yeah, this book was everything I expected and then some.

I loved every bit of this story and the way it was unveiled in perfect layers of past and present. I loved the revealing glimpses into Chuito, and how it laid bare the flaws, mistakes, and the regrets that made him a deeply troubled soul. I enjoyed watching how the relationship evolved between Chu and Alaine, and felt that their love story was beautiful. At times the depth of character took me by surprise. Chuito thought that he was tainted by his sins, too bad to be with a good girl like Alaine, so he tried to push her away. Seriously, Chuito was a gangbanger in love with and a minister’s daughter. They had major issues and yet they were brutally honest with each other.

This was an exceptional story unlike any MMA romance that I’ve read. It was a story about love, loyalty and redemption. The characterization was real ; Chuito was a hero who had done some bad things, but he worried about the people in his life and needed to take care of them. His experiences and need for absolution helped to shape him into the man, the hero, that I could love.

Then there was the drama surrounding the Italian Mafia. This story definitely opened some doors for at least two more books in the series, and I can’t wait to read them. There was the humour in the friendship between Chu and Tino, and the sarcastic wit of the dialogue between the entire cast of characters. Lastly, there was Nova. I’ve been waiting for him, so just when can I expect his story ?

The Slayer is the second book in the Untamed Hearts Series, but it can also be read as a stand alone. However, since the story spans some time and events overlap, then I suggest reading book one, The Viper, as well.

The Slayer should be at the top of everyone’s must read list for sure.

David, a Kodiak bear shifter, is not looking for his mate and is not happy about chaperoning his nephew’s school dance, but the sweet honey-rose scent of his mate changes that. Now he has to convince Lisa he’s really attracted to her, as well as the fact he is a bear shifter.

But another female has her eyes on David and will do anything to make him hers, even if she has to kill Lisa.

This is a paranormal goody that was entertaining and easy to read. Lisa’s Bear has quite a bit of internal dialogue between the hero, David, and his inner bear. It was like listening to a bear channeling Tarzan with its one worded gruff vocabulary and I rather enjoyed the flavor it gave the story.

Lisa is a sweet girl but is troubled by an inferiority complex. Dating or hanging out with the wrong crowd will do that to a person. It was hard to read about her fledgling self-esteem being battered but I was gratified to see her eventually stand tall and take action. A little help from the paranormal aspect of the story was unexpected, unique and I liked that twist.

Of course Lisa and David do the sheet tango a time or two, and David came across as a dominant bear of a man but he’s a werebear after all; I expected no less. Those hot scenes were fun, sexy and entertaining, and a reader has no doubts about the hero and heroine having the hots for each other.

Another thing that came as no surprise is the plot conflict. Unfortunately, the villain was easily figured out and the heroine immediately acted the way more easily led astray heroines often do, which annoyed me. It was ‘fainting couch drama’ and predictable but the good news is that it didn’t stop me from reading or enjoying the book. There were quite a few misspellings too which surprised me because everything else seemed so well put together. Overall, the novelette had too much good stuff going on for me to stop. That was proved right when Lisa was able to confront her tormenter. That was a delicious bit of writing and very satisfying. I’m glad I read the whole book.

The HEA is cute because Lisa talks to her bear and I laughed. I have no doubt that Lisa and David are going to have a wonderful life together. Lisa’s Bear is short, cute and a nice way to laze away an afternoon.

The police academy gave her the boot—and she knows how to use it.
All her life, Maisie McGrane dreamed of following in her father and older brothers’ footsteps and joining the force. But when she’s expelled from the police academy, she’s reduced to taking a job as a meter maid. Now, instead of chasing down perps, she’s booting people’s cars and taking abuse from every lowlife who can’t scrape together enough change to feed the meter.

When Maisie stumbles across the body of a City Hall staffer with two bullets in his chest, her badge-wielding brothers try to warn her off the case. But with the help of her secret crush, shadowy ex-Army Ranger Hank Bannon, Maisie’s determined to follow the trail of conspiracy no matter where it leads. And that could put her in the crosshairs of a killer—and all she’s packing is a ticket gun.

All Maisie wants to do is become a cop like her father and her brothers. Her mother is a lawyer, but that’s not for Maisie. So all her hopes and dreams come down around like a collapsed air balloon when she’s told she has flunked the academy because of her psychological test. She wants people to like her and that’s impossible when you’re a cop. Now what will she do?

This author wanted to be a cop and her father wouldn’t allow her to do so. This book is a story that’s based on that premise but Maisie refuses to give up. She’s an easily likeable character because she’s so determined and focused on her goals she’s almost not protecting herself from political or physical danger. It’s a good thing she has lots of brothers to protect her and a very supportive family (for the most part).

Ms. Mack has the tone and quality of writing that reminds me of Janet Evanovich. I enjoyed the story and the style it was written in.

Maisie is almost in despair when she comes up with the idea of going into the world of parking enforcement. Her brother, Cash, gave her that idea and she’s going to run with it. She does and it doesn’t take long until she’s cross-wise with the Mayor. That’s not a good start for her…

There’s murder, a bomb, hot politicking and a family trying to warn her off, but Maisie is her own person and she muddles her way through.

The best part, though, is her hot boyfriend. He reminds me of Ranger in the Evanovich books. He’s a mean human weapon who has taught her skills that come in handy in this story and he’s determined to take care of her. What more could you want? Thoroughly enjoyable.

Dr. Carrie Bryant’s four years as a neurosurgical resident at White Memorial Hospital have earned her the respect and admiration from peers and staff alike. When given the chance of performing her first unsupervised brain surgery, Carrie jumps at the opportunity.
What should have been a routine, hours long operation, turns horribly wrong and jeopardizes her patient’s life. Emotionally and physically drained, Carrie is rushed back to the OR to assist in a second surgery. There, she makes a careless and tragic mental error resulting in irreparable brain damage to her second patient. With her confidence shattered, Carrie quits her residency and moves back home where her younger brother, Adam, a combat vet suffering from debilitating PTSD, also lives.

When Carrie learns about an experimental program at the VA Medical Center exploring the use of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) that could forever cure the emotional and memory trauma of PTSD, it seems like a way back into medicine. Carrie is apprehensive, but a chance meeting with David Hoffman, a reporter for the Lowell Observer writing a story on PTSD, helps her overcome any hesitation.

Her first surgery appears to be a success until her patient mysteriously vanishes. When a second patient also goes missing, Carrie employees the investigative skills of David, and together they descend into a labyrinth of murder and corruption. And the price Carrie might pay for asking the wrong questions could be her life.

Neurosurgeon Carrie Bryant is considered competent and compassionate–but that compassion, that empathy for her patients, might be her biggest challenge. When things go wrong in one surgery, her self-esteem takes a beating.

In running from this one disaster, she charges into something far more sinister. That darkness exists is a given, but through the compelling story of veteran Steve Abington, with his life on the streets and gradual, increasing sinking toward violence, we discover the value of Bryant’s work. And more: for although this has elements of personal growth story, it is in a far more complex framework.

In her familiar home locale, Dr. Bryant goes back to work, but things, somehow, inexplicably, go wrong. Suddenly, she’s not investigating a medical issue, but a horrific crime. (More than one!) No spoilers here: the investigation carries this story, although there are other good points.

This medical thriller is very character-driven, holds reader’s attention well, and does not wallow in so much medical jargon as to become incomprehensible. I also really enjoyed some of the light, accurate descriptions of different places; from the familiar old type of coffee shop that isn’t a slick new drive-up, but has seats near a fireplace, a look at Hopkinton (near Boston) and up the coast of Maine, as well. I’d hope for a little less predictability, overall.

Mystery and thriller readers will find a lot to like here.

The Baby Bonanza, part of the Safe Harbor Medial series, is chock full of emotion, personal drama, romance and the highs and lows of life. A reader is treated to an amazing community of people who support, love and stand up for those they care for when mean, drunk or vicious people try to mess with their lives. This story has so much going for it and the ending was as wonderful as I could wish.

The main protagonists are Lucky and Zora. Life has dealt them some bad cards and they’ve navigated their crisis the best they knew how. For Lucky, he was sustained by the dream of the perfect scenario for safety, control and how his future would be spent. Anything messy was frowned upon. For Zora, it was for the magical dream of her ex-husband regretting his choice of letting her go and his returning to her with love and acceptance. None of those things were what was best for both the hero and heroine but they couldn’t see that. Certainly not in the beginning. This book shines as it shows a reader the journey they both go on as they realize that what they thought they needed was completely different from what they had. The most amazing thing happened though all that craziness – they fell in love, and it was a wild and emotional ride.

This novel also includes the people who share their boarding house and it amazed me to see that all these people who started out as strangers ending up being a family. Not like a family but a real family. They tease, they harass, they have bad habits and they all pitch in to help. What made their relationships with Lucky and Zora charming and engaging was their support, their caring, their camaraderie and their zeal in protecting each other from the bad stuff life throws at them. And, believe you me, some of the offal that comes their way is sneaky, mean, manipulative and dastardly. The best thing is, truth wins out in the end but not before a tragedy occurs that stuns most every character in the book.

One of the strongest elements in this story is the dialogue. It’s told mostly from Lucky and Zora’s point of view for which I’m grateful. If I had to keep track of all the people populating this tale, I’d have gotten dizzy or mental whiplash. As it was, the author balanced both their point of views perfectly. The author described every worry, feeling and love and moments of hilarity until I felt part of the group. This book touches the heart of every romantic notion I have about what it is to fall in love so hard, you want a family with this person and you want it forever. By the time the happy ever after wrapped up I was convinced that love really does conquer all. Probably because everyone makes mistakes in this novel, everyone is all too human and it’s that very essence of humanity that makes this novel such a powerfully emotional read because at the end, there is love. There is forgiveness. It’s beautiful and very special.

The Baby Bonanza is a must read. For readers who like to see folks overcome incredible personal hardships, who enjoy tender moments and families reuniting and all the good stuff rainbows are made of after the storm, then this is the book to grab. It’s a winner
