Ashley Moore’s life forever changed the day her mother died, and she was sent to live with relatives. Now, ten years later, Ashley returns home, hoping to connect with her estranged father. When she learns he’s decided to reopen the family’s Christmas lodge for the upcoming holiday season, Ashley volunteers to help. While cleaning, she discovers her mother’s journal detailing the last month of her life. Will the book hold the answer as to why her dad sent her away? Who is the mysterious Adam her mother keeps mentioning in the diary? Can the words of her mother reconcile father and daughter in time for Christmas?

Ashley comes back home, after being away several years, to her family’s Christmas lodge. While cleaning the lodge she finds her mom’s diary and with it comes questions as well as answers that would shake her world.

The Christmas Journal is not from a genre that I normally read though I would say that whenever I do read any book like this it just touches my heart and this book did it again and again. Kimberly Jackson did a great job painting a picture of the different scenes. At the same time, I would have liked a little bit more descriptiveness in some.

I was with Ashley and her father from the start to the finish. In every step of the way there were parts of the journal which allowed the cleaning of lodge to come through and give a semblance of normality.

This was a refreshing change that touched my heart and gave me hope.  You get a slice of music, with a dash of hot British abs and touch of family and love with a heart touching emotions that will leave you wanting more and more. I can easily recommend it to anyone who loves a sweet story.

A plan born of desperation…

Once the toast of society, Grace Cabot and her sisters now await the shame of losing high status and fine luxuries upon the death of the Earl of Beckington. The dire circumstances are inevitable unless, of course, Grace’s wicked plot to seduce a wealthy viscount into marriage goes off without a single hitch. But once a stolen embrace with the wrong man leads her to be discovered in the arms of Geoffrey, the Earl of Merryton, her plan takes a most unexpected—and scorching—twist.

Though his golden-haired, in-name-only bride is the definition of disorder, he can’t resist wanting her in every way. But once her secrets meet his, society might consider their lives to be ruined beyond repair…while Geoffrey might just see it as a new beginning.

Two imperfect wrongs just might make the best right of all.

Julia London writes engaging characters sure to charm the reader. This was definitely the case with this book. I loved them, I hated them and at times I wanted to put the book down, but I’m glad I saw it through. The writing is crisp. The characters are imperfect and frankly, this was a good book.

Grace is unique. She’s feisty and knows what she wants. Initially, she wasn’t one of my favorites because well…trapping a man in marriage seemed…silly. She’s so forthright otherwise, why doesn’t she stick to what works or better yet, find a guy who likes her pluckiness? That aside, I grew to enjoy her character and liked how she worked with Jeffery. They didn’t seem to me to be suited for each other, but that’s what I liked–seeing them having to coexist.

Jeffery…where do I begin? The guy has issues. I liked how the author tackled his form of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) because it made him realistic. People have issues. His fixation with seeing women tied up and in sexual situations was new, but it’s not really heavy BDSM. Honestly, he just likes a little satin mixed in. Honestly, I have yet to meet a guy who doesn’t see most everything in a sexual fashion. I didn’t dislike Jeffery, but he was hard to take at times.

Still, this made for a good read and one I’d pick up again.

If you like books that are a little off the beaten path and sure to please, then this might be the book for you.

A vampire’s bite.

A werewolf’s love.

Burned by silver and called by its song, he walks the night forever, protecting those he loves.

And now the fading song of their daughter’s life has called him back to the glen.

Will tonight be the night he can reveal to her the eternal love that has kept her safe, and that will now protect her son?

This is not your typical vampire book. Aside from the usual brooding, sadness, and melancholy most lovers of these paranormal creatures of the night have come to expect from a story—yeah, that’s there—William’s character has a different cause for unhappiness with his lot in life. Just when he thought things couldn’t get any better, they go horribly wrong. Suddenly, the future he thought was within his grasp, is taken away and he’s forced to watch as the life of the ones he loves carries on without him. Life and death come to everyone, except William.

We don’t really get to know much about Mary other than she’s obviously head over heels in love with William. Despite her father’s disapproval, she hopes to marry him one day and start a family. One night of passion between them is all they have before the bloodlust of another changes their fate, leaving William unable to have the woman he loves, and Mary with an unborn child who’ll grow up without a father.

I really struggled with the story. None of it seemed to make much sense until the end when I finally figured out what was going on. I think the short length is what added to the confusion. It seems like the plot could and should have been elaborated on a bit. It was like as soon as I understood what was happening, it ended, leaving me feeling a bit cheated and left in the dark.

Some of the positive aspects of this book were the author’s ability to paint the scene with words. Ms. Nostromo has an excellent ability to create vivid imagery by including all the senses in her writing. I may not have understood the point of the plot at times, but the scenery surrounding the characters—what they felt, heard, smelled, etc.—was very clear and precise. For me, this is the type of writing that makes me feel a part of what’s going on with the characters as opposed to just being fed the details in a one-dimensional tone.

While I wished the story had continued a bit, the overall purposes of the plot were met by the end. I struggled a bit, but eventually understood the purpose of this melancholy tale and am curious as to whether or not the author’s wonderful use of word imagery shines as brightly in her other works.

This book isn’t for anyone looking for an easy, laid back tale full of erotic tension and steamy sex. I wouldn’t even classify it as an erotic story as the actual love scenes are limited to one. No, this is more for the active thinker who likes a story that digs deeper into the underlying emotions behind the main character’s brooding and sadness.

While it might leave some readers—those looking for good old erotic tale—a bit disappointed, it may reward others—those tired of the same expectations when it comes to erotic romance—with a little more to think about. Overall, it left me wondering if Ms. Nostromo has other plans for William.

She will fulfill his dark appetites and come to accept her own submissive nature without shame. At the dragon’s instruction, the virgin will explore needs and desires beyond imagination and Rena’s commanding lover will teach her just how wicked she can be.

A flurry of dust and debris accompanied the creature’s landing. Rena turned her face away. It suddenly became difficult to breathe. Her resolve wavered and she took a step back, forgetting there was nowhere to go. The wood post bit into her flesh through the thin sheath she wore. Rena sucked in her breath and held it, awaiting the painful rip of talons as they shredded her flesh and swept her broken body into the night.

Terror mounted with every passing second. How much would she feel? Rena prayed she’d die with the first stroke, and not be forced to endure the creature’s entire devouring of her.

As Rena exhaled, simply because she could not hold her breath a second longer, the feather light caress of a man’s hand on her cheek shocked her…

A dark and electrifying novel about addiction, fanaticism, and what might exist on the other side of life.

In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs — including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.

Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of thirteen, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-thirties — addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate — Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.

Stephen King isn’t called the master of horror for nothing. His books are guaranteed to cause nightmares and to stick with the reader long after the last page. This book was no different.

I’ll admit. The beginning seemed slow. Really slow. I thought, there is no way this all works together. Why am I still getting these little tidbits of information? Hang in there, because it really does all go together.

Now all these little bits aren’t boring. I felt like I got to know Jamie Morton quite well. I could pretty much see the guy. I didn’t like him–not all the time, but I could see why he did what he did. The sweet little boy starts out just that. Sweet. It’s life and experiences in various bands that help to shape him and make him into a bit of a monster. He’s redeemable and that’s worth reading.

Then there’s Charles Jacobs. He’s a minister and seems to be quite good. But what he seems and who he is aren’t the same things. This guy…he brought a whole slew of emotions in me. I liked him, felt sorry for him, wanted to throttle him, then pitied him. He’s an interesting character. He’s full of surprises and ratchets up the fear factor by being someone you could know in real life.

There were times while reading this book that I wasn’t sure what would happen next. The term revival isn’t just for the title. Revival pertains to not only the religious situations, but also to life. Just when it seems like something can’t turn for the better, it does. It also turns for the worse. That’s what was so…scary good about this book. I never know what would happen and sure as heck didn’t see the ending coming. Wow.

If you want a book that will stay with you long after the last page with haunting characters and a plot that’s complex but interesting, then this is the book for you.  Recommended.

Harith is a dragon-shifter with something to prove. As the son of a clan chieftain, he has an impressive family legacy to live up to and a driving need to make his father proud. When this leads to a rash confrontation with monstrous enemies, his life will be changed forever.

Nyssa seems to be nothing more than an ordinary peasant woman, but appearances can be deceiving. In truth, she is a fugitive, hiding from a barbaric clan of dragon-shifters who live in the northern wastes. Can she maintain her disguise, and if not, will her clansmen come to claim their own?

Harith and Nyssa cross paths in the winter forest. From the start, a fire is kindled between them, but their way is not clear. She lives with the constant fear of discovery, and he is betrothed to another. Can their love win through these obstacles, and what if the northern dragons attack? Harith, while following a couple of trolkin, meets his mate and is introduced to his mate’s barbaric clan. It’s simple but not so simple.

The whole story was weaved with extreme care and attention because it portrayed Harith as the star. It was written so that this reader, who had never read the first book, didn’t at any point think that this might be a series. It didn’t feel like I was missing out on information that was important or necessary but missing because it had been revealed in a previous book.

The characters had their own personalities and was easily defined and showed in every facet of the individuals without straying too far off topic. If I had to, I could go on and explain every character in detail. For me, that is a huge achievement because it doesn’t happen in a lot of books I’ve read.

Harith is a powerful dragon who adores his siblings and hopes to make his father proud. But he is arranged to wed a princess who is a long way away from being anything near what he wants in a mate.

Nyssa is a dragon with a secret. Hiding in a human village was out of necessity. But after she meets Harith she is glad that she had to. Nyssa is a fiery haired dragon with immense strength, passion and will to protect that rivals any warrior.

The plot and story pulled me in with every word and painted a clear picture of every scene. I can’t say I finished it in a single sitting but only because it was because I didn’t want it to end. I tried to prolong the action as long as I could but my curiosity couldn’t be denied.

Dragon Warrior was descriptive and evoked some serious emotions out of me. I was right there with every emotion that the characters experienced.

I hated to see this one end and I’m sure any reader with a love for dragons would love this series, too.

The ideas and thoughts in books and stories that include or have extra-terrestrial beings as the main character need to be well developed. The details should walk hand in hand with the main theme of the book. I would say that Shadow Wars: Homebound very nearly succeeded in that arena though there are some facts that needed to be a little more clarified. The star systems and planets in them, the hierarchy of it all was confusing at first.

The premise was cute but it wasn’t what interested me so much about this book. It reminded me more of a movie line. A guy finds a phone and sets out to save the girl in the phone. But from the moment the truth of their lives was revealed it really picked up. The need to see how it played out held up until the end.

It was descriptive and very intelligently thought out ideas. This is a must read for those who enjoy the Sci-Fi genre.

However, that being said it would fulfill the erotic need of a reader. It was short and sexy, so the lack of complete world-building wasn’t missed that much.

Set in Atlanta, Ga, “Espionage” is a contemporary light BDSM tale about Celeste Lenthor, a word-class corporate spy for hire. After a job, months in the works, goes awry, Celeste wakes up trapped in an unfamiliar room, and with a fuzzy memory as to how she could have possibly ended up there. Celeste must use her wits and keep a cool head if she is to complete her job and escape from the clutches of eccentric CEO and Tech Tycoon Sheridan Morton.

Celeste woke up restrained to a bed in a bare concrete room. When Sheridan Morton walked in, showing himself to be her captor, she knew she was in trouble. Celeste had worked hard for six months planning to steal a microchip from his work. Clearly, she hadn’t been successful. Facing a long list of felonies and a very unhappy time in jail, Celeste finds herself with a unique offer. Allow Sheridan to “punish” her – or face her crimes through the justice system. Certain that she can get herself out of this mess, Celeste agrees to the bargain offered. But Sheridan is no novice to these games and he won’t let Celeste go so easily.

This is a well-written story. I found Sheridan to be a sensual, dominant character, a good blend between sexy and alpha male. Celeste was also a sympathetic character, a modern, confidant woman. Self-willed, it took her a while to settle into the situation she found herself in. I understood her defiance (few woman would really find themselves a prisoner and immediately fall to her knees and beg to be dominated) but I found her resistance made the story drag for me a bit.

I would have found Celeste’s capitulation more inspiring (and sexually confidant) if she’d decided to take Sheridan on, play his games–beat him at his own games–and embrace her sexuality. Rise to the challenge. She didn’t hate Sheridan’s actions, or hate him, but Celeste clearly didn’t wallow in the sensuality of the experience she was having. Her lack of pleasure (at least until near the end) held me back from enjoying it too–and that disappointed me.

Having said that, Sheridan was a sexy, dominating hero. While I found him to be strict and a definite Dom, at no stage did I feel Sheridan to be brutal or cold. I never thought he’d genuinely hurt Celeste (he didn’t come across to me as a sadist or psychopath). Readers who prefer their erotica with a hefty dose of chemistry and romance might be disappointed with this. I enjoyed the fact this was a definite “forced seduction” type or story. I never thought the author came near the line of rape. But the set up of kidnapping and forced seduction meant for me that were was little sexual chemistry between Sheridan and Celeste in the beginning. Celeste does warm up towards the end, but this is clearly only the first part in a multi-segmented story. I’m intrigued enough–and hopeful of a warmer chemistry between Celeste and Sheridan–that I’m interested in looking up the second scene.

This is a sensual story and definitely not to everyone’s tastes. Readers should be cautious about triggers, but overall it’s a good, sexy read. While complete as a scene in and of itself, it’s clear this is only the first part in a multi-part story. I found this to be well paced and interesting, certainly worth looking into.

Now they’ll weave their way through the pitfalls of the polite world only if they’re willing to be true to themselves…and to each other…

Ms. Romain’s Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress is absolutely everything is cover (and its title) promises: spicy, intriguing and fun.

Augusta Marsh enjoys pretending – and why not? The genteel (if not quite uppercrust) society in Bath, south of London don’t know anything about her. One little secret, what can it harm?

Witty and whimsical, we kick off with overtones of a farce, as Augusta dodges a (usually drunk) admirer she’s dubbed ‘Hiccuper.’ Her dodge lands her in front of a passing acquaintance, Joss Everett, and the jig is up–or is it? It takes some conniving to keep her ‘place’ secure…and his as well.

There is also wonderful attention to detail. I loved the description of some of the decor. From busy pub-rooms to luxurious quarters… “Had scarcely time to collect an impression of Oriental luxury – lacy carved-wood, glossy tile, painted murals…” The feel and sense of place is wonderfully real, throughout. However, it is absolutely the characters that carry this work: Even among secondary characters, practically everyone has a memorable side, and always worth a chuckle; yet, this is a bit more heartfelt than simply funny, as Augusta and Joss grapple with who they are, their place in this realm of ‘not-quite’ and…who they are to one another.

Beautifully written, Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress is a must-read for anyone who enjoys romance.
