Turning eighteen is an exciting time for most girls. It means finally being considered a legal adult, having more freedom and a wild birthday party. For Haven Vigano, it means no longer being able to move around in the daytime, immortality and a craving for human blood. Haven is a Dayling, but in three weeks she will ‘Cross Over’ into the world of Nightlings.

Most Daylings live their lives as humans for as long as they can, which means they attend school, make normal friends
and indulge in all the pleasures of being mortal… most Daylings except for Haven. She’s as antisocial as they come,
even in the Dayling world. Haven cruises through life with cynicism and smart-alecky comments. She would rather stay
at home and read a book then hang out with the locals, which is why she had to be dragged to a teenage party with
her cousins. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, Haven escapes the party.

On the way home, Haven comes across a teenage boy being beaten by four other guys. Haven saves the boy, Philip,
and takes him to the hospital. This single event changes Haven’s life and her perspective of the human world forever.
This event also creates a new problem for her: she’s waited too long to live in the human world, and dating a mortal so close to Crossing Over would be a big no-no for the head of her Nightling family… her father.

To make matters worst, a friend from her past, another Dayling named Sébastien, arrives in Tallahassee with the news
that an ancient group of Nightling hunters called The Holy Sect of Mântuitors are hunting down and killing her kind.
Just certified Product in the business sector to cure male’s two dysfunctions which is clinically tried and intended to super viagra effectiveness. Among the medicinal products viagra prescription respitecaresa.org you can use are generic Sildenafil – the most popular, generic Tadalafil and Generic Vardenafil. Haven’s father fears a Nightling is helping the Mântuitors in their quest to rid the world of immortals.

Now Haven must deal with her growing attraction to Philip, plus understand Sébastien’s jealousy towards her human
crush, and oh yeah, help deal with the threat of the Mântuitors. Times were a lot simpler for Haven when she felt
indifferent towards everything and everyone.

Haven never wanted to be normal, until it was too late.

I think Mr. Madison has an interesting take on the world of vampires. The idea that vampires exist in two separate states and can reproduce isn’t entirely new. However, I believe Dayling is one of the first vampire stories I’ve read that never mentions a way for humans to be turned. This certainly makes relationships between humans and Daylings/Nightlings very complicated.

Haven is definitely a girl who likes to test her boundaries. Her sharp tongue and abrasive personality get her into plenty of trouble throughout the story. I must say that I was very frustrated with Haven and her attitude at times. While I understand that she is a teenager trying to come to terms with some big changes in her life, I couldn’t believe that she would continue to put her family, friends, and herself in life threatening situations. Haven is a smart girl who definitely knows better. Despite this issue, I’m pleased to note that Haven does have a softer side and is the type of girl who champions the underdog, whether that means standing up for her cousin Angela or rescuing Philip from a sound beating.

I had a very hard time warming up to Philip. He comes off simply as a typical, popular teenage boy who uses his appeal to get girls into his bed. While the girls in the story can’t seem to get enough of his charm, I was a little put off by his attitude. It is very difficult to tell if Philip’s pursuit of Haven is genuine, or if he’s simply looking for another conquest. I will say that Philip never denies his playboy ways and doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not. When Haven chooses to hang around Philip, she certainly knows what she’s getting into.

In addition to my reservations about Philip’s character, I wasn’t really feeling the connection between him and Haven. Haven seems to have more of an obsessive crush on him rather than any deeper feelings. When Haven and Philip do have some rare alone time, they spend it flirting, but never seem to truly get to know each other on a personal level because Haven doesn’t seem to be comfortable opening up to Philip. It wasn’t until the very end of the story that I began to see a sliver of hope for Haven and Philip’s future.

The ending of Dayling is certainly intense, but I also felt it was rushed and a bit predictable. I had no problem figuring out who the mastermind behind the murders of the Nightling/Dayling families was. However, the reasoning behind some of this character’s actions remains a bit murky. I’m not sure why this character chose to bring some people into his plot and keep others in the dark. Also, the fate of the antagonist is unclear at the conclusion. Will there be a sequel to tie up this loose end?

In general, I think Dayling is a good read. Mr. Madison’s vampire mythology is interesting, and Haven and her exploits are certainly entertaining. Anyone looking for a vampire story that’s a little different might want to give Dayling a try.

Nuclear devastation is the past. The need for water is the present. Can they survive to find a future?

I watch the sun coming up on my right as I walk. We’ve only got about three hours now before it gets too hot and we have to stop. We’ve learned not to leave it too long, learned not to wait until the last minute to put up our tents and hide within their dubious shelter. The sun will kill you if you let it.

Better to lose daylight, lose marching time, than to get stuck in the full sun. Of course it’s not much better in the middle of the night either. We have to stop and get set up before it gets too cold. The night will kill you if you let it.

Zara talks about what it was like before — how their days used to be based on being up when the sun was up and sleeping during the night when it was dark. It’s just another one of the differences between then and now. She’s the oldest of us, she tells us about the differences, about how they used to do stuff. A lot of it is really crazy, but I guess that’s natural. I guess that’s why it happened.

Imagine a world in which most adults die young from radiation poisoning, disease or accidents. What kind of society would children and teenagers create in their absence?

The scenes in this book shift between what happens to Zara as a little girl just after the nuclear bombs go off and a quest she participates in many years later to find the Great Lakes. The narrator for this quest is an unnamed seventeen-year-old who has known Zara for years and considers her one of the Old Ones. That is, Zara is one of the few people left who remembers what life was like before the bombs.

At first I found the transitions between scenes to be a little jarring but they quickly grew on me. It was interesting to see the similarities between Zara’s childhood and what happens to similarly-aged kids and teenagers on the quest. There are certain cultural differences between the two time periods that I will discuss a little later on in this review but many of their experiences remain the same. More than anything these kids want to survive in an environment in which food and water are hard to come by on a regular basis.

It was frustrating to know so little about the narrator. Because she was orphaned or abandoned at such a young age we know nothing about the people who brought her into the world. While many children would end up alone in a world ravaged by nuclear war I wanted to know more about how she survived in such a harsh environment without any consistent adult guidance. A three or four-year-old child does not have enough life experience to keep herself safe. This is even more true in a society in which food and water are scarce, there is no medical care and even sand can kill you. Surely someone must have looked after this little girl in for at least a few years and the story would have been richer had we learned something about the person or people who kept her alive.

With that being said I was impressed with the character development of the unnamed narrator. Her early abandonment clearly had an affect on her ability to bond with or trust other people and the author’s descriptions of a young woman struggling with what sounds like a mild attachment disorder were eerily accurate. As much as she longs to love and be loved the narrator has trouble allowing anyone to get too close to her. She’s been hurt so many times before that she assumes anyone she loves will either abandon her or die. Of course a deep-seated fear like this cannot be vanquished in 159 pages but it was rewarding to see her ever so slowly begin to bond with Zara in particular. Despite her gruff demeanor the narrator is at heart a lonely teenager and while I don’t ever see her becoming a warm, cuddly soul I can imagine a future for her in which she eventually learns to trust a small group of adopted family members. If Ms. Rode ever chooses to continue this story I would be quite interested to see how this transformation takes place and how the narrator’s name or original identity may influence this change .

While sex was only mentioned in passing in this book the younger characters are comfortable engaging in it with almost any willing partner. Non-monogamous relationships are the norm and no one who grew up during or was born after the nuclear attack is concerned with what happens in someone else’s tent as long as it’s consensual. I found this acceptance of a wide variety of sexual orientations and relationship styles to be incredibly refreshing but I recognize that some parents may prefer more traditional gender and sexual roles for younger readers even if nothing was described in explicit detail. If this is not an issue for you family, though, Water Seekers is otherwise completely appropriate for the 12+ crowd.

Water Seekers creates a world that is as harsh as it is beautiful. I’d recommend this book for anyone in the mood for a post-apocalyptic story that assumes that humans are naturally good and would go out of their way to look after the young and weak in a worst case scenario.

Sometimes, secrets refuse to stay buried…

A ten-year-old accidental killing and an ancient cursed doll are only part of Julia Bennett’s problems. When she returns to her hometown of Covington, Oklahoma for an old friend’s funeral, she’s thrust into the middle of a murder case—and discovers she never stopped loving her high school sweetheart.

Jake Devlin is now the sheriff of Covington and faced with solving a murder. He isn’t surprised to find Julia in the middle of things. She still seems like the troublemaker whose reckless mistake caused a man’s death years ago…and who broke his heart when she left him without so much as a goodbye.

Jake makes it clear he’s over her, and Julia can’t wait to leave Covington behind. But when another friend dies, she knows she must stay. Can they put the past behind them and stop a killer before he claims another victim?

It’s amazing how one small moment can change your life completely. They’d been partying and were on their way home when they happen upon a man walking down the road in the dark. They survive; the man doesn’t. And all their lives fall to pieces in seconds…

When Julia returns to her hometown, she’s not looking forward to meeting the town folk. She left as soon as she graduated and hasn’t returned for anything except for things she can’t avoid. This time it’s for the death of a friend who was along on that car ride. He committed suicide. She finds that hard to believe, he was so full of life and so exuberant. Before much more time goes by, it’s apparent it was not suicide; it was murder.

Ms. Dean melds a series of murders into a tale of what happened a long time before anyone’s death as well as the current investigation. The past has significance for Julia. The present is full of secrets and unknowns. She also still has an attraction to Jake, who is the sheriff now. With guilt from the past still riding on her shoulder, she has a number of issues to try to put to rest.

The author’s story flows well, holds your interest, and entertains you. As Ms. Dean kills off characters, I began to wonder just who the killer would be. Julia’s girlfriend, Pam, thinks the doll is talking to her. None of those who rode in the car were untouched. The author takes you for a walk on a cobwebby path, with twists and turns and no real answers. She surprised me twice in this tale. I won’t share the surprises with you; you’ll need to read the story. I bet you’ll be surprised, too.

It’s a good mystery with a twisted tale that finally unwinds and offers a solution and some hope for Julia’s future. Why not get a copy on your ereader and settle in a comfortable chair and take a trip through small town, Oklahoma? I bet you remember the trip.

Alex is trying to make things right when his past catches up with him. A Serbian ex-art thief blackmails him into stealing an ancient folio from Windsor Castle… Luke is kidnapped… and that’s just the beginning.

Alex is making good on his promise to put things right. Along with Griff and Chris, he retrieves items he had stolen with Edward and replaces them. It’s dangerous work, especially since he lost his most useful Oracle-given powers. When a replacement goes wrong and Alex ‘disappears’ he realizes that something has left a mark he can never rid himself of.

Meanwhile Luke is kidnapped to work on a manuscript that could hold the key to the secrets of alchemy and offer the reader eternal life. The Voynich manuscript is missing its cypher and it’s up to Alex to steal it for the Serbian ex-art thief. Only–it’s held in the private library at Windsor Castle.

It always provides successful results. cialis generic price You can enjoy sound levitra 20 mg sleep regularly and get refreshed for performing daily tasks efficiently. It’ll take Luke, Alex’s lover, as well as their friends Chris and Griff and enormous amounts of luck, with a little magic, to make this heist work.

Book of Secrets is book two in the Oracle series by RJ Scott. For those readers new to this series, definitely start with book one before attempting this one. The action picks up after it left off in book one and we’re immediately thrown into Alex’s life. Right away he’s trying to replace a tricky item he stole from a museum, but this time without his magical Oracle-given powers. He’s determined to make the return anyway – and in the same manner he lifted it – but he runs into trouble. Here is the first big twist of the plot comes in with Alex’s ex-friend or rival, Dragan. Dragan manipulates Alex and puts Alex’s lover, Luke, in danger. From here the plot gets very complicated with magical deeds, ancient stories, mystical texts, and a long dead genius.

At times the plot seems to create more twists and turns than a maze. I’m not sure this is really needed but it’s not difficult to follow at least. There’s plenty of action and some nice moments between Luke and Alex – though no on page sex. I would have liked to seen more of Griff and Chris and their relationship but the pace is incredibly quick and action seems to happen constantly. Someone seems to be in danger constantly just as Alex and Luke are always getting headaches from their connection. The magical element is a bit too mysterious. It seems to drift in and out, which may be what the story was trying to show, I’m not sure.

The characters feel very undeveloped and one dimensional. There’s not a lot of depth beyond their actions. The alternating third person perspective between Luke and Alex tries to give insight into their thoughts and feelings but I found this distracting and confusing. Since Alex and Luke share their thoughts and emotions it was easy to forget whose perspective/head you were in and get confused.

Still, it’s a pretty fun story overall with a lot of quick action and a happy ending.

Jane, the Honorable Miss Lumley, is in a bind. She can’t help boasting about her friendship with author Mr. Michael Girard, whose sweeping new series of adventurous tales set on the high seas have fetched a high price at a Nottingham book auction.

Darkly debonair bookseller Lachlan, Lord Stathmore, finds Girard’s stories improbable but knows they will sell. When Jane’s impassioned defense wins him over, he asks her to arrange a meeting with the mysterious Mr. Girard.

While that may sound like an ungracious and uncomplimentary comment, it is neither. Double Masquerade is a good story, well written and packed with untapped potential. I wanted more, much more.

Ms. Fox’s characters are delightful, her story packed with humour and emotion. Her heroine, Jane, the Honourable Miss Lumley is in a bind in as much she’s found an occupation she love, but which is discovered will bring disrepute upon herself and her family, so when success and recognition beckons she is faced with a dilemma.

As for her hero, Lachlan, Lord Stathmore, well… Jane has met her match and goes to extraordinary lengths to try and outwit him. Needless to say she fails, and it is how Ms. Fox creates the pits and falls these two tumble into, that kept this reader engaged. So much so, that I would have like this story to be three times the length as, in places, it seemed the author skimmed the surface of the plots.

The author’s writing is vivid and compelling, I found myself totally engaged with Jane and her problems. I felt as though I was travelling at Jane’s shoulder throughout the story.

Ms. Fox is an author to watch out for and I would read more of her books.

Morgan has no choice but to kill the Fomorian before it kills her. But Ryan has other plans for the demon . . . Now Morgan and Ryan must decide between love and duty in a perilous race against the evil that could destroy Earth.

Full of vivid imagery and an amazing plot, Wicked Paradise is a gem in the fantasy romance genre.

I was amazed at how well this story sucked me right in, from the beginning set centuries ago, to a dystopian future on a cursed, but beautiful island. The two main characters are incredibly three dimensional, and I was fully invested in both. I never thought they acted out of character or without motivation, and understood their reasoning for behavior (good and bad) easily.

The sexual heat was smoking hot, even though they didn’t act on it right away. It built and built until I was ready to explode, right along with Ryan and Morgan! It was fantastic and just how I like it: a long build-up with a passion right when and where it’s fitting.

The plot was interesting and complex. I worried for our characters being trapped on the island with the magic- consuming demon. How would they ever survive? Well woven and believable. Nicely done. Here’s hoping to a sequel. Soon. I can’t wait to visit with these characters (including a baby flying horse!) soon.

The Hot Floor is one of those really juicy books that is a decent length, has characters who you feel you really get to know, and sex that is more than just the physical act, it has all the emotions and dilemmas that go with it. The author does a great job of making the whole book about Josh and his relationship with Rai and Evan without the need for lots of side stories going on. It keeps the reader focused on the issues, on the problems and the desires, and in doing so is quite voyeuristic and certainly very satisfying.

There were enough secondary characters to keep it real, and enough mentions of the outside world for me to get a sense of place. I really liked the bath scene, though it would have been a terrifying thing to happen in real life.

Rai and Evan were adorable and I could see why they’d turned Josh’s head. Rai was witty and sexy, Evan tough and rough but completely loveable. When they all got together, naked, Ms Myles does a fantastic job, there’s never a dull moment and the scorchingly hot scenes are orchestrated beautifully.

If you like gay erotica with two or more lovers, a good sprinkle of romance and something that just has that ‘real’ feel to it, then The Hot Floor shouldn’t be missed. Great book.
