Blood, sex, and love.

You shouldn’t always run away from things that go bump in the night…

Evernight presents thirteen erotic vampire tales to sink your teeth into. Follow the moon’s glow through the shadows and let these delicious immortal alphas show you just how satisfying eternal life can be.

Just Vamps is a delightful anthology, worth reading at any time during the year if vampires are your thing. It is an enjoyable 13-author piece of work with stories for all sort of romance readers, from those than enjoy action to those that prefer to laugh to those that like their romance simple and without complications.

Well written and quite hot, Just Vamps made me laugh, cry out in surprise and squirm in my chair more than once. As occurs with most anthologies, some stories are better than others but overall the book is a good read for any vampire lover.

Chatting with a Vampire by Thayer King: This story was nice and sweet with a rushed end, but it still managed to bring a smile to my face.

Blood for Blood by Robin Badillo: One of my favorites from the lot, this story had an intense romance between its main characters and an action packed backstory to boot. I would have enjoyed reading a stand-alone book with these characters and vampire clans.

Soul Reunion by Naomi Clark: A sizzling example about how love between three people can be real and eternal.

Blood Bond by Annalynne Russo: Although this story was smoldering hot (a ménage between two best friends and a vamp) I found it lacked actual romance and there was little chemistry between the characters.

Haunted by Melissa Hosack: Another one of my favorites! The chemistry between Liam and Kyla was present from the start and I kept cheering for them to find their HEA. Unfortunately, there was one problem in this story and that was the character named Cassidy. Included as a third partner for Liam and Kyla, I didn’t quite feel  the love between him and Kyla and found him a nuisance that kept getting in the way of the real romance between the witch and the vampire. I had the impression that the author had only included him to make the story a ménage and thus more interesting. Nonetheless, Haunted was fun and hot and had some great dialogue.

Once Upon a Fantasy by Hennessee Andrews: Who hasn’t dreamt about a fantasy man becoming real? A bold, surprising and sexy story.

Fly by Night
by Vanessa Devereaux: This story started out great: intrigue, a sister rivalry, a mysterious man. Unfortunately, little by little it deflated. The dialogue became stilted and the connection between the main characters forced.

Fangs for the Memory by Rebecca Brochu: When it began, I thought it was going to be the traditional girl meets vamp in a bar, but the author pleasantly surprised me with a more traditional, albeit hot story. I must admit, however, that Dashiell did come on a little too strong for my taste.

Eternally Theirs by Lani Rhea: Hot, hot, hot, from the very beginning. Very well described and tantalizing, this ménage story could easily have a book all for itself, if for no other reason just to discover why Melissa had three incredibly sexy vamps all for herself. The plot was well constructed and the sex incredibly hot between the coven of five.

Living the Dream by Doris O’Connor: The title of this story says it all. A male-female- male ménage with hot sex and a lovely back story to boot. A pleasure to read.

The Last Hallow’s Eve by Jean Maxwell: Ms. Maxwell manages to make this story scary at the same time as sexy and heart warming.

13 Raven Road by Misty Burke: This story builds up nicely, explodes with some awesome and fun sex, and ends with a much calmer note making it a nice read.

The Red Dress by Ella Grey: A cute, well-written story with heart-warming characters, end the anthology with an “awww” note.

Amanda, her young sister and her unconventional mother move to a small house in a remote village just before Christmas—and discover it lacks furniture and everything else they need. Charles, son of the local squire, bursts in to rescue them when he mistakes smoke from the clogged chimneys as a house fire. When she realizes his father is their landlord, Amanda drafts Charles into helping them, and he willingly complies with the requests of the beauty.

As the acquaintance between the families deepens, Amanda comes to realize that Charles may not be quite as bacon-brained as she assumed. When he rescues her from a drunken man, she then has to conspire with him to prevent worse consequences—all on Christmas Eve.

A Change of Address, by Kate Dolan, is a short, sweet Christmas Regency read. It may be short, it may be sweet, but it is fully formed, and peopled with believable characters, a few somewhat unbelievable plots that still work beautifully and a setting so vivid I could feel the damp chill of the new home.

It’s a home that Amanda, her younger sister and her mother, move to after her father’s death. A home so far removed from their accustomed luxury Amanda cannot help herself resenting her mother’s resolution not to accept their cousin’s offer to remain in their familiar surroundings. It doesn’t help when they discover their home is without furniture, let alone the most basic necessities to start their new life.

Enter Charles, son of their new landlord, in less than auspicious circumstances and you have the beginnings of a series of misunderstandings plots and subplots that Ms. Dolan weaves together with a gentle humour in keeping with her characters and her story.

While Amanda has strength of character, and her younger sister an equally strong sense of adventure, Amanda’s mother, and her motivations are not immediately clear. Once again, it is down to the author’s craftsmanship that the mother’s motives and personality are finally revealed.

Meanwhile Charles’ sister and father both play an integral part in the story and both come across strongly in their own personalities, as do the drunkard Plucket and his daughter, Mary.

Ms. Dolan packs a full-length story into a 77 page novella with her cleverly offered tools of suggestion, in the same way she crafts just enough description of her settings for the reader to fill them in to their own satisfaction.

I enjoyed that none of the characters were too perfect to be true. A Change of Address tugs at both laughter and tears and was a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas read.

In 1942, no one heard of a female PI, not even in New York City. But meet Persephone (Percy) Cole, newly inaugurated private investigator, with a penchant for Marlene Dietrich suits, pistachio nuts and fedora hats.

Halloween finds her backstage during the previews of the latest Broadway production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth where there’s double, double, toil and trouble. When an actor falls from the overhead catwalk and breaks his neck, Percy is hired to save the show. But casting a spell over the grand old Royal Theatre are more people with secrets than you can shake a witch’s broom at. Putting aside deadly daggers, threatening letters, and falling set pieces, the cast of characters include a company of devious actors, a double-dealing producer, a duplicitous director, a deceitful star, and dead bodies aplenty, enough to fill a witch’s cauldron.

Armed with her noodle and a WWI German Mauser pistol, this working mother is not sure which is worse, being foisted into acting the role of Witch Number Two, her son’s jack-o’-lantern being snitched, or someone trying to kill her. It has not been a good day.

Percy is certainly not the stereotypical mother of the 1940s. She’s a tough woman with an attitude big enough to match her 5’11” frame. She possesses a sharp mind and an even sharper tongue. I love the way she handles people, men in particular, who doubt her abilities as a detective. Though she can be brash at times, Percy also knows how to turn on the charm when she needs to. I can just as easily picture her buttering up a potential witness with free food or roughing up a hostile one.

What I like most about Percy is that she is completely unapologetic about who she is. She knows she’s a good detective and simply goes about her business the best way she can and doesn’t let anyone stand in her way. She lets insulting comments about her height and weight roll right off her back. Even though Percy projects a tough attitude, she has a soft spot for her family, especially her young son. The moments she spent with him really softened her character and served to make her even more likable.

As much as I love Percy, she is the only truly rounded character in the book. I would really like to get to know some of the eclectic members of her family a bit more, especially Percy’s parents. Any couple who would name their three children Adjudication, Persephone, and Serendipity has to be worth getting to know better. Perhaps I’ll have that opportunity in future installments of the series?

The mystery Percy works on in this tale is intriguing. The list of suspects is very long. So many of them seem to be hiding something that it is very hard to sort out who was hiding what. Percy has great instincts and a knack for getting people to reveal their secrets, even if she has to fudge the truth a little. While it is very entertaining to watch Percy stare her suspects down, I don’t think it is entirely realistic that her suspects would always fall for her bluffs. Some failures mixed in with the successes would have made this mystery more believable.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Persephone Cole and the Halloween Curse. Percy is a great character, and I found myself smiling and laughing at her antics throughout the story. Anyone looking for a fun, fast read should certainly give this book a try. I know I’ll be on the lookout for more about Percy and her adventures.

NITA CONROY has relocated to the most boring town on the planet. That is, until would-be boyfriend BRAD KEELEY spills the beans about a secret group of girls known as THE DARE CLUB. During her subterranean initiation below the high school. Nita overhears a plan by contractors and school officials to embezzle millions of dollars in grant money. When she is betrayed, The Dare Club’s pranks become deadly serious.

With the clock ticking, Nita will need the help of her new friends to expose the chilling plot–and hopefully survive long enough to snag a date to the Homecoming Dance.

How do you stop something terrible from happening when everyone thinks you’re the one behind it?

Nita’s fondness for Geometry (even if Mr. Close is a little dull) is tempered by her sometimes snarky takes on the drama of adolescent society. While she occasionally develops crushes on the opposite sex, finding a boyfriend is not at all a top priority. Eventually she knows it will happen but in the meantime she has so many other things going on in her life. Not every teenage girl is obsessed with falling in love and I thought the authors did a nice job of creating a well-rounded protagonist who is naturally kind and empathetic without ever coming across as too good to be true.

It took a little more time for me to warm up to the group of friends Nita accumulates at her new school. At first glance they seemed like caricatures of teenagers – the jock, the nerd, the cheerleader – but once I learned more about them I found something I liked about everyone Nita likes.

My biggest concern about The Dare Club was how long it took the main plot to pick up speed. Subplots dominated most of scenes for the first half which didn’t leave much room to explore the embezzlement scheme later on. As this book is the first in a series the authors need fans to meet many different characters but introducing the mystery earlier would have allowed us to get to know Nita and her friends as they attempted to solve it without ending up with uneven pacing. I felt a little restless while everything was being set up because I wasn’t sure which clues would actually pan out in the end and it took awhile for my hunches to be confirmed or denied. Once the plot picked up again, though, I was a little overwhelmed by how quickly things moved and had trouble remembering certain scenes from the beginning of the story because so much time had passed.

With that being said the subplots in the beginning paid out wonderfully at the end of the novel. There is quite a bit of room for personal growth for all of the members of the Dare Club in the future and I hope to hear from them again soon.

The Dare Club: Nita is a good choice for anyone who felt or feels out of place in high school. Some students are comfortable conforming to their social roles at that age. Others do not and this the group that will probably feel most at home with Nita and her friends.

Meg is a strong, modern heroine and Marcus is gallant enough to still have White Knight tendencies but isn’t a pushover – equal in strength to Meg and an alpha werewolf to boot. The sex is really well balanced with the plot of a serial killer and under-the-radar war going on between two factions of the paranormal community. Despite it sounding like a clichéd Paranormal it’s not. This is a fresh outlook on a supernatural world in conjunction with the mortal reality.

With plenty of spice, sexual tension and the classic mystery-to-save-the-damsel’s this is a fun, interesting read that will satisfy a broad range of tastes. Highly Recommended.

Dear Reader,
I’ve been wishing for a miracle for my oldest boy, Stone, and this Christmas my prayers might just be answered!

Her name is Lark, and she’s here in Last Chance, looking into her father’s past-and stirring up a whole mess of trouble without meaning to. As the chief of police, Stone sure has his hands full trying to keep up with her. Ever since his wife died, Stone’s put everything into raising his daughters and dodging the Christ Church Ladies’ Auxiliary matchmakers. And it’s clear Lark has been through some trouble and could use a place to finally call home. I only hope Stone can let go of the past soon enough to keep her . . .

South Carolina and pine trees swaying in the wind.

Lark Chaikin’s plan (er, challenge) is a bit quirky, but reflects her late father’s desires. And, Sheriff Stone Rhodes is not unsympathetic, but the law is the law. The two are on opposite sides from the start. And lets face it: Stone Rhodes is about as unbending a lawman as one can imagine. However, both our main characters are complex and interesting people, and though they seem plainly at odds, both surprise us. Lark is sophisticated, but at heart, there’s a country girl, with a genuine feeling for a people. She is also determined to solve what starts as a minor mystery. Stone has that tough exterior you’d expect of a lawman; but there is a lot going on inside. His own grief makes him both less sociable but more understanding.

Almost by accident, they find they have a common goal in discovering the truth about a specific important event in town.

The community is thoroughly involved from the start. Folks take sides, doubt one another, question the facts. Gossip takes off … and though you want to believe in charming little southern communities, we find out pretty quickly that even at the holidays, you can’t count on the clichéd charming community to help out overall.

Ms. Ramsey’s writing style is straightforward and unobtrusive. Conversations are believable and move things right along. One or two changes in point-of-view were a tad abrupt, but (recognizing this is a personal bugaboo) I suspect this will not dismay most readers. The secondary characters also do certainly move things along – young David’s romance with Lizzie is a whole entertaining side, and past loves come into it too. There is also that touch of ‘magic’ any good Christmas story needs – an angel to oversee them all. Although Last Chance Christmas is a series, you don’t need to have read any of the previous novels to thoroughly enjoy this one.

Somehow, despite disagreements, expectations and whole-town angst, not to mention a troubling investigation, Ms. Ramsey will still make us feel the heartfelt charm of it all, and leave you happily in the spirit of Christmas. From the swaying pines through a myriad of decoration all the way to the pageant, this book has everything.

My recommendation: Curl up with this book and a nice batch of frosted cookies. On another note: Cover designer went over and above on this one: Colors and design are completely perfect; Last Chance Christmas will make a lovely gift — for Christmas or any time of the year.

Each adventure is set in a different place with different circumstances in play, so they are entertaining. The stories scoot along quickly, each couple has some differences to resolve and they are entertaining to read.

The bad news is someone tries to poison her there, and he has to rush her out to his personal plane and take her to Alaska to get the antidote. She accuses him of kidnapping and then the whole adventure gets even more interesting.

Life is never boring with dragons. I can also tell by the way the story ended there will be another coming in the future. If you like fantasy, you need to read this series. When Madeline honors her mother’s dying wish and returns to The Chalet, she discovers the true secret of the old mansion; a seductive spirit whose undying love has waited decades to claim her for its own.

The Chalet is remarkable in that the time span of the story covered in only twenty-seven pages is immense. If there is a downside to this, it is that keeping the timeline and relevant characters straight was a little confusing at the beginning. But do not let that small inconvenience put you off from reading this story.
