Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.

But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.

Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.

Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.

Maybe.

Reapers Property is one hot read. Totally awesome, and I loved it. Right from the start I knew it was gonna be one heck of a ride.

Marie just got out of a bad marriage with a  man who liked to beat on her. She’s been staying with her pot head brother who’s got some shady deal going on with the Reapers Motorcycle Club. Marie meets Horse when he comes by the trailer on business, and they hook up.

Horse has got it bad for Marie, and offers her a leather cut with “Property Of Horse” on it. Which in the biker world is the same as a proposal. But Marie has a dumb blonde moment and flips out and rejects Horse. Things go down hill from there and it starts to look like it’s over for good. Then Marie’s brother gets caught with his greedy hands in the cookie jar. Marie comes home to find her little brother in a bloody mess and a scary biker dude holding a gun to his head. Marie has a choice to make: She can come home with Horse as collateral or watch her brother die.

Marie gets an up close and personal look into the dark and gritty world of the Motorcycle Club. She has a few more dumb blonde moments, and Horse makes a couple of mistakes along the way. At one point I was really disappointed in our hero because, let’s face it, there are some lines that you just don’t cross. But they couldn’t stay mad at each other forever, and those love scenes got hotter and hotter and the suspense kept building.

I absolutely loved this story. The hero was one of the most compelling characters I’ve found. Horse was a bad ass biker dude, and a true alpha male. He’s crude and possessive. He’s shameless and offers no apologies. He’s deep into the MC life, and he takes what he wants.  He wanted Marie so he took her. He was rough, but with Marie we saw his tender side, which only endeared him all the more. Lucky, Lucky Girl.

Marie was stronger than she seemed. She may have been oblivious to the MC world at first, and yeah, she made a few mistakes, but she came into her own by the end. She had a thing for Horse and you could see that she trusted him. Even when he was mad at her and acted like a jerk. And even though she didn’t know what to expect, she didn’t judge their lifestyle, she saw that they really were a society unto themselves. They had their own code of honor, and were fiercely protective of their “family”.

Bravo to Ms. Wylde for pulling no punches with this story. It was gritty and raw, and downright raunchy. The readers got an insightful look into the world of the MC. I liked Ms. Wylde’s down-n-dirty biker world. It’s not pretty. It’s violent and scary, and not for the faint at heart. And it was this realism, as much as the strong characters, that drew me into this story. And now I want more. I have hope that there will be more books about this MC as more rough biker dudes find their own “old ladies”.

Loved the ending. And last, I just have to include my very favorite quote, cause darn it, it’s just so cool. It made me shiver, and made me wonder where can I find me a man like that.

“I want you to be my old lady, babe. That’s all I have to offer. I’m a reaper, and this is my world. You wear my patch, you be my woman and I’ll be your man. We take the good times together and fight through the bad times. No games. That’s all I’ve got and it’s all yours if you’ll take it.”

Reapers Property is a hot and steamy romance that you definitely do not want to miss.

Ian thought he was going to spend summer keeping a rich, bored patron happy, but Frank was more interested in using him for Satanic rituals than in partying and sex. He fled, but Frank isn’t willing to let him go. Will the bikers who’ve picked him up help him, or be a different kind of danger? Dee, their magus, has to rescue Ian from Frank’s magic, while resisting the temptation to get involved with a much younger man who can’t possibly want him except maybe out of duty or gratitude.

Ian has run scared into the night, chased by demons from Hell. Dee and his friends have been driven to finding Ian, unconscious and hiding, by the magic that helps make them fight monsters most of the world don’t even believe in. At first Dee is sure it’s some of the dark magic surrounding Ian from his near escape that is responsible for the incredibly powerful, sexual reaction he has to the younger man, but after saving him and spending some time in his company neither man can deny the simmering chemistry between them.

I absolutely loved this book! I never would have guessed that a biker gang with gay men fighting dark magic would tick so many boxes of enjoyment for me – but it absolutely did. This short story had me perplexed, then enthralled and finally loving every word by the end. I wish it had been much longer, this is an awesome idea and really well written. Ian and Dee are both interesting characters. They don’t simply jump right into bed with each other, but let their trust and desire grow naturally. When the plot reaches its pinnacle I was glued to my seat, devouring every word. This is a fantastic book.

Having said that, this won’t be a book to everyone’s tastes. The bikers use the magical power of the angels to defend against evil – and some people might not like how many of this crew are gay. Also, while there is a brief mention of a gang-rape in Ian’s recalling of the party he escaped, it is mentioned in passing – there is no dwelling, or details other than actually stating what occurred. Unless readers don’t even want to have mention of such things, this shouldn’t press anyone’s buttons, but again it won’t be something every reader will want to come across. Neither of these things lessened my enjoyment one bit. If you’re up for a bit of fun, and are willing to cast aside a small bit of logic, and open your mind to one perspective of how a band of non-conforming characters can use the powers of good against evil, this can be a delightful, imaginative, very sexy read. That’s exactly how I found it and am eagerly looking for more.

Delaney Bixby owns and runs his own barber shop, The Dapper Gentleman, which prides itself on offering an upscale grooming experience to a very select clientele in New York City. When Delaney is closing up shop one night, a special customer drops in for an after-hours shave that leads to slow dancing and professions of love.

Delaney Bixby owns an old-style barber’s shop named the Dapper Gentlemen as a nod to its 1900s feel. Singing while he cleans up after a long day, he’s looking forwards to his final appointment. When Richard turns up, both men enjoy the enticing game of sexual innuendo back and forth which they always start with when together. A touch here, a grin there. Something as simple and common as a shave turns delightfully sensual between the lovers.

This is a smoking hot short story, filled with sexual tension and the mystery of surprise. I really enjoyed how the author flirted with the details of what the relationship was between Richard and Delaney and also hinted at an olden day style barber shop set up in contemporary New York. It gave the piece a more elegant, older style feel to it that was wonderfully refreshing to read. While there is no explicit sex, this is heavy with the underlying sexual tension, and highlights the sensuality of foreplay and what trust and decadence can be involved in every day actions. A sexy, good read.

Sophia Kennedy is determined to chase her own success, rather than ride her father’s coattails. She’s devoted herself to Books and Brew, the business she owns with her three best friends. She doesn’t feel the need to explain herself to anyone, least of all the free-aid lawyer who’s determined to judge her as a society princess. She’d ignore him altogether…if it were up to her mind. But nooooo. Her body just has to have its say—and it’s using words like “gorgeous”, “hot” and “sexy”. Soon, annoyance turns to attraction, verbal sparring to physical satisfaction as the couple is drawn together by a common cause.

Marc Garrett has no time for a relationship. And he certainly doesn’t want a rich society fixture, though the damning evidence below his belt suggests otherwise. The more he comes to know his hardworking princess, the more he wants her, again and again. Marc’s falling hard, but after holding Sophie’s wealth against her, how will she react when she learns of his own rather prosperous roots?

The more Sophie is around Marc, the harder it is to ignore her attraction to him, but she is determined to prove to Marc that he is wrong about what he says her father is planning. When she learns that he isn’t, Sophie is determined to stop her father, and save the community center that holds so many happy memories for her. Marc is drawn to Sophie, but what will happen when she discovers that Marc is from a family every bit as prominent as she is, and that he held her family connections against her while hiding his own? As they work together to save the community center, can they learn to accept each other, and find the passion inside? Can they forget about family, money and connections, and focus on love and the future?

Bachelor’s Bait is the third of Mari Carr’s Cocktales books from Ellora’s Cave. Each book focuses on one of the partners in the Book and Brew establishment, a combination bookstore and bar, and a very novel idea. I like the atmosphere here, and enjoyed the world Ms. Carr created for her four college friends to inhabit. Each title is also the name of a mixed drink, and Ms. Carr includes the recipe for the title drink in the book. Each of the characters are well defined and realistic, and these are people you might meet in any town.

Sophia Kennedy is smart, determined and loyal to friends and family, always giving folks a fair chance. I liked that Sophie didn’t automatically side with her father, but instead took the time to get the truth about things. I also loved her zest for life, and her willingness to go all in for a cause when she believed in it. And her inner dialog about Marc was hilarious at times. I enjoyed watching as she fought so hard to resist him, but that she finally went with her heart.

Marc is smart, handsome and dedicated to helping people. He wants to make it on his own, just like Sophie, and I enjoyed watching as he came to realize how much he and Sophie had in common. I enjoyed the sassy conversations between Marc and Sophie, and the relationship they established as they fought to save the community center was delightful to watch.

The chemistry between Sophie and Marc was electric at times, and the secondary characters were as detailed as the main here and heroine. Ms. Carr is a master at building sexual tension, and this story had plenty to keep me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see when, not if, these two would connect. There is such a sense of camaraderie between Sophie and her partners, I could tell these women are in this for the long term success they so deserve. This is a wonderful romance, with hot moments, sarcasm, and a happy ever after that is well deserved. Do they accomplish everything they set out to do? I’m not telling, you need to read Bachelor’s Bait and find out. But bring plenty of ice water, you’ll need it.

First let me say that this can be read as a standalone but you will not get the complete story unless you start from the beginning. The first book in the Lee Girls trilogy is The Heist, followed by For the Love of Chocolat, then finally The Golden Chalice. The first book sets the stage and introduces the characters, gives you background information, and helps you understand the relationship between the two sisters and their respective loves. The second and third book continues to flesh out the story and completely wraps you in their drama. So it would be my recommendation that you should start with The Heist.

The Golden Chalice kept me intrigued from the beginning until the end; it took me on a wild adventure and I was glued to the pages of this book. Michelle ‘Chocolat’ Dixon and her sister Sasha are the daughters of a renowned jewel thief. Sasha and Chocolat have a love/hate relationship which I understood especially because of a betrayal. Leith ‘Lee’ Sullivan is a mobster and the man that loves Chocolat but it seems that they can never find a way to completely be with each other because of one obstacle or another. The Golden Chalice has lots of action, adventure, betrayal and of course intense heat between Chocolat and Lee as well as between her sister Sasha and her drug addicted boyfriend Kumar.

As mentioned earlier, The Golden Chalice is the last book in the series, all loose ends are tied up and it also answers any lingering questions about Chocolat’s relationship with her sister and Lee. I would highly recommend this trilogy, it will keep you interested, will tug at your heart strings and have you begging for more.

A bookworm who’s devoted little time or energy into any sort of socializing, her life has been dedicated to one goal. When her mother throws her a curve by forcing her to get out and – to her chagrin, go on a date – she decides to get it over with and contacts Madame Eve. After her 1Night Stand, Jane plans to head home.

Lukas Gerard has a secret-a big secret. In addition to teaching geology, he’s also busy preparing his shelter, president of the Nevada Area Preppers, and owns half of a high-tech company dedicated to preparing for disaster. What he’s missing, however, is companionship. He requested a very specific date from Madame Eve over a year ago, and now she’s finally come through.

I’ll preface my remarks by admitting I’ve not only never read a prepper story before, I had never heard the term. This being my first exposure, the author did a very good job of helping me understand the character of Lukas and his obsessive planning. The description of his bunker was very vivid, and although he could have easily fallen into the paranoid category, he was a very likable guy.

That said, the prepper angle wasn’t my favorite, and it seemed to take away from the romantic side of this 1Night Stand. It was necessary to show the attraction and connection between the two characters, and I enjoyed the love story very much. Jane’s inexperience didn’t seem to play into the story too much, but it was endearing to see how patient and understanding Lukas was with her.

I was a bit confused by the end, and I won’t go into specifics since it would include spoilers, but I had some unanswered questions when I was finished. I wasn’t exactly sure what happened, but I can perhaps chalk that up to not being familiar with the prepper angle.

That aside, I did like this book about two people who seemed picture perfect for each other. When you get down to it, it’s a love story, and I enjoyed Ms. Richards’s version of happily ever after. If you like stories about preppers, this one would be a good one to try.

Lara Church, the heroine in my latest novel, THE SEVENTH VICTIM is an artist, vegetarian and the lone survivor of a vicious killer.  It’s been seven years since the attack, which she cannot remember.  He’s never been caught and, to keep from worrying over a madman she can’t remember, she’s continually moved from place to place and completely dedicated herself to her art, wet plate photography.

I’ve already had questions from readers about this process, which was invented in the 1850s, and I’m happy to share a bit about what I learned. It involves glass negatives dipped in chemicals, inserted in a bellows camera and then exposed for thirty seconds or more.  It requires a portable dark room and takes a skilled hand.   What’s wonderful about this process is that it can record greatly detailed images that are stunning.  It’s a process that I’ve always been fascinated with and as I was thinking about Lara’s needs and personality, I realized it could be the perfect art form for someone searching for the missing details of her past.

Since even the most dedicated artist has to eat, I thought I’d share one of Lara’s favorite treats.  She’s not the kind of gal who spends hours in the kitchen but when she emerges from her dark room she’s often starving and ready for something sweet.

Legend states that the Minotaur was confined to the Labyrinth, slain by Theseus and then laid to rest by thousands of years of Greek mythology. But, the truth is far different. Read the Minotaur’s own words as he recounts his full life as god, king, warrior, matchmaker, midwife, monk, sage, father, mother, husband and, most of all, witness. The fierce Minotaur lived to see and be a part of the best and worst of humanity during a life spanning thousands of years. Part bull, part human, the Minotaur struggled to find his place in this world and, in the end, left his unique mark on history.

The book begins in the present with the arrival of the Minotaur as a guest lecturer to a room of students. I am sure they got as caught up with his words as I did when the huge bull-headed beast told his life story, reflecting on the historical ages and events he witnessed. He made me feel as if I traveled with him during his long life. I experienced his escape from the Labyrinth and accompanied him as he traveled through events in the past I’d read learned about in history class. Now the Minotaur colored in the pictures and brought the smells, sights and sounds to life. His story not only revealed historical facts and pictures, I also found out how the Minotaur felt, what he thought about mankind and bovine (he is half bull) and why at times he shunned both man and animal and lived a life of seclusion.

Hades’ Carnival, Book 1

Aimee Horner lives and breathes her career as a graphic novel illustrator, but she never expected it would invade her dreams. In recent months, worsening nightmares have pulled her into the darkest corners of Hell.

On a rare night out with friends at a traveling carnival, she finds herself strangely drawn to an abandoned carousel adorned with vividly exotic animals. One steed, a massive white tiger, is a temptation she can’t resist. The moment she climbs upon him, her world changes forever.

More than five thousand years ago, Roric and his fellow shapeshifting warriors were imprisoned in their animal forms, a last-ditch effort by the goddess they served to save them from the horrors of Hell.

With one special woman’s touch, he has a chance at freedom and redemption—but the clock is ticking. If he is still alive in twenty-four hours, the spell will be broken, and Hell will have no claim on his soul. The only hitch is his blazing attraction to Aimee. If only he could trust that she isn’t merely a distraction sent by Hades—luscious bait to lure him from his mission.

Imagination has always fueled Aimee Horner’s illustrations for graphic novels. But lately, nightmares worse than any she has created, have begun to invade her dreams: dreams of demons and evil and of a Goddess searching. And always, since she was small, visions of the white tiger through them all.

Aimee doesn’t get out much, but her friends convince her to visit the traveling carnival, and there she becomes captivated by the carousel with its exotic animal statues. When Aimee sees the white tiger, she has to get closer, and when she climbs on his back, her life will never be the same. What Aimee doesn’t realize is that this is Hades Carnival, and the animals on the carousel are beings imprisoned by their Goddess to save them from being killed. When the white tiger comes to life, Aimee knows something has entered her life, something she can’t ignore. Roric is the white tiger, and he has twenty four hours to fight the power of Hell and be truly free. Roric is drawn to Aimee, but is torn between his feelings for her, and his duty to rouse his brothers in arms and rescue their Goddess. Can Aimee and Roric get past the twenty-four hour deadline unscathed? When Hades tries every trick to stop Roroc and enslae him, will he stand firm or be destroyed? Will Roric stay with Aimee, or begin an eternal quest to save his Goddess and his fellow warriors?

Night of the Tiger is the first of NJ Walters’ limited series, Hades’ Carnival. This is a darker world than most that Ms. Walters has built. The characters are deeper, edgier and more conflicted than her usual folks, but they are as expertly crafted as any she has done. This is definitely not a world I would like living in, but a visit from time to time would be a treat, sort of like visiting the spook house at the county fair: scares you silly, but still, you keep going back.

Aimee Horner is a talented artist, and has built a life for herself with her work. Aimee is strong and a bit shy, not enjoying being around lots of folks. As her dreams become nightmares, her art becomes a bit darker, and her nightmares soon become real. When Aimee wakes up in bed with Roric, she is surprised, but not afraid, as though she realizes he is, somehow, her white tiger from her dreams, always there to soothe her when she was afraid. I liked Aimee’s courage, and her pragmatic view of Roric: she realizes she has no hold on him, but sees no reason she can’t enjoy their time together and build some lovely memories for once he has left her. She is afraid, too, and tells Roric she will do whatever it takes to help him survive the twenty four hours until he can be truly free. I enjoyed Aimee’s spirit and her ability to adapt to the situations as they came, without letting the fear overcome her. Yes, she is afraid, but she is determined to get past it.

Roric has been imprisoned in his animal form for centuries, on the carousel with his fellow warriors. He is shocked when Aimee’s touch frees him, and his devotion to his Goddess is complete and unwavering. I loved Roric’s loyalty and his determination to rescue his Goddess, and enjoyed watching as he came to care for Aimee in spite of his intentions. He is strong and handsome, but it is his integrity and faith that make him such an intriguing character.

The chemistry Ms. Walters has created between these two is subtle at first, but as their time together progresses, the strength of Roric’s passion becomes stronger. I enjoyed seeing how these two battled Hades’ minions, fighting for each and every minute they could get. There were not many secondary characters here, but the appearance of one of Roric’s fellow warriors who has turned to Hades’ side is an intriguing twist to this one, as is the news that two others were roused, but were defeated. This still leaves three more ‘beast’ to be freed, and I look forward to the next dark chapter of Hades’ Carnival, thanks to the creative and delightful NJ Walters.

When Eli’s uncle Jasper mentions needing a cornerman for former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Jessie “The Demon” Dalton, Eli jumps at the chance. Having had his heart broken by the man five years earlier, Eli is not only determined to get some answers, but he has no intention of letting Jessie push him out of his life a second time around. However, when he comes to face to face with Jessie, it becomes very clear to Eli how much Jessie needs him in his corner, and in his life. All he has to do is convince Jessie of that.

Eli Mayhew is finally going to meet up again with Jessie “The Demon” Dalton. After five years of waiting Eli is ecstatic, since he’s had a crush on the older boxer since he was a kid. Introduced by Eli’s uncle, who is Jessie’s manager, the two spent years in each other’s close company – until a trial and fall from grace had Jessie withdrawing, needing to lick his wounds. Jessie has been in love with Eli since the man’s twentieth birthday – so when Eli’s uncle gives his permission privately, nothing can hold Jessie back anymore. While it will take time to restore his reputation and his come back to boxing glory – the most important thing to Jessie, Eli’s heart and body, is something he can act on claiming immediately.

I really enjoyed this short story. The chapters alternate between Eli’s perspective and Jessie’s, so we get to see what both men are thinking and feeling. This really deepens the reader’s understanding of what drives both men and how they feel about each other. Although set in the past, the story isn’t drowning in historical fact and details. It’s realistic, but doesn’t beat you over the head with the fact it’s an older setting for the story. Despite the fact there’s no actual consummation of the burning desire between the two men, this is a heartfelt, wonderful tale of two men trying to do their best for each other and coming back together after a separation. The plot is strong and unwinds at a lovely pace, both characters are well written and fully fleshed out and most importantly the connection between them – both sexual and friendship – is strong and interesting. A wonderful, quick read.
