Trapped in Vamp City, Lukas has been unable to return to the beauty who stole his heart. But now that she’s stumbled into his world, it will take every ounce of cunning he possesses to keep her alive.

First Dates Are Hell by Amanda Arista

Blood and Water by Kim Falconer

Beneath the waves of San Francisco Bay lives a vampire race that wants nothing to do with the “landers” except to feed on them. But when Stellan sets eyes on Angelina, everything changes.

Readers are in for major fun and entertainment when they dive into this compilation of awesome stories by four very talented and creative authors. I expected to find at least one story that was hit or miss but every one showcased why these authors are at the top of their game.

V is for VampWoman by Kerrelyn Sparks

In the first few paragraphs there is this one sentence about the hero, Mikhail. “…one thing Mikhail valued, it was a life free from limitations.” That is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. What is the worst case scenario of a bona fide bachelor? The scary limits of being “in a relationship”, that’s what.

A disrupted love life is buy generic cialis the worst nightmare for men. Wait until readers get a gander at just how long the hapless hero avoided a certain potential “limitation”. I have to give him credit for will power. Part of the ease of his resistance came from a mistaken belief about the heroine, Vamp Woman, a/ka/ Lady Pamela. Her entrance is a hoot but the hero’s response to her was the tip of the iceberg. What comes after is a courtship mixed with action and a bit of soul searching.

In this short story, I was able to immerse myself in the fun world that Ms. Sparks has built while getting to see another terrific happily ever after come together in a fast but believable rate. It was completely entertaining. Lest a fan lament that the author wouldn’t be able to get in a few of her famous quips, she skillfully wove in a little gem. I enjoy Monty Python and this reference was cute in the movie but I loved how Ms. Sparks used the Holy Grenade of Antioch because it cracked me up on a whole new level. I never know when this author is going to pull a funny, and she’s so good at it too!!

A Forever Love by Pamela Palmer

This was a bittersweet happy sort of paranormal story with hope and tears. The author plunks a reader down into a most heartfelt and sad moment in the heroine’s life. She’s alone, lonely and missing the one man who makes her complete. Except, all is not as it appears. It’s only when she disappears that all becomes clear, sort of. Elizabeth, the heroine, finds out that Lukas, her beloved, has a violent side to him. Her initial shock was only the first of many reactions the heroine had to navigate as she discovered how very different her man, and her world, is from what she knew. She had to make some decisions, some emotional, very fast because this wasn’t a slow moving short story. It was over before I was ready for it to be done but the ground it covered was fascinating. Some anthologies manage to introduce readers to a new world they didn’t know was out there. That’s what happened to me with reading A Forever Love. It ends with a happy for now with the high potential to be so much more and I believe I’m going to have to buy the next story that picks up where this one leaves off. Elizabeth and Lukas’s story was engrossing and I know there is tons more that has to go on before they get their full happy ever after. As it was, for what I was given, this one was a very good read.

First Dates Are Hell (A Those Who Wander Story) by Amanda Arista

This story was cool. It has action, it was exciting, different, and is a crazy way to start an HEA.

Valiance is a man who gave up all he knew to back Violet, the new Prima. I love the Wanderers series so this was a treat for me to read. Valiance was a mystery to me before now. I almost wish his story could have been longer but he certainly was a character that deserved something good to happen to him. Odd that it took an invisible girl to make the hero see his true worth and make him believe that he had the right to be happy too. I mean, seriously, the most exciting action in his life at this current juncture was his shopping trip to buy sheets. Sounds so ordinary, right? Why is a man of action, a hero and wiz with swords doing something so boring? Love comes to those who aren’t looking, sometimes in the oddest of places – think Bed, Bath and Beyond. I think this story comes under the heading of ‘beyond’.

Even though this story is solidly focused on Valiance and Esme, the unlikely heroine, it was nice to be reminded why I liked Violet, the Prima, in the first place. It was her story that got the series rolling and it’s been a wonderful trip so far. This story is barely an appetizer of the whole scope of richness that Ms. Arista plays with in her bigger books. But, a reader catches a good glimpse of the kind of story telling this author is capable of. I wasn’t disappointed. I totally enjoyed this short and I recommend it highly.

Blood and Water by Kim Falconer

I have a whole new view of Mar-people (read: mermaid type folk) after reading this story. In fact, it’s almost as though the author mixed up two favorite genres and morphed them into one. It’s sort of freaky and unique. The Mar came across as inherently violent and callous. Stellan, the hero, obviously isn’t like his sister, Salila, and for that I was thankful. The sister made an effective villainess but the author also threw in a teaser that maybe she wasn’t always so twisted, and maybe in some future book, could be saved. At this point, I didn’t care for her, which was a great asset to the plot conflict.

Angelina is the human who has captured Stellan’s heart but dating a human comes with pitfalls as this story reveals. She’s a sweet lady but a bit of a rebel. Her openness and willingness to trust made their fast and furious courtship believable. The reason for the natural catastrophe that occurred was a nice paranormal twist to history. That impressed me.

What I found the most unique were the steps that had to be taken to make a human change into a water breather. That was a first for me and I applaud the originality of it. The duration made me sad because I understood the enormity of what Angelina was giving up but the hope for a happy ever after was worth the cost.

Blood and Water wasn’t a comfortable read for me because of what seems to be the inherent nature of the Mar but I cannot deny that this was a well told story with fascinating undercurrents. Excuse the pun. I just might look into more of this world that Ms. Falconer has created, it has the potential to be a new favorite series.

On the whole, Vampires Gone Wild is a wonderful montage of paranormal treats for old and new fans of these authors. All four stories are well written with tightly woven little plot conflicts that kept the reading pace intense and entertaining. These authors have infused these tasty niblets with the very essence that obviously makes their bigger novels such successes. I highly recommend this book to all paranormal romance fans. It’s a winner.

I love this line because now there are the books that go above and beyond my favorite doctor dramas on television.

Both authors have a very descriptive style. Both are distinctive. I blew through this pair of stories in a matter of a couple hours. Couldn’t put them down.

First, let me talk about Breaking the Playboy’s Rules. Harry is a piece of work. He’s all about bucking tradition, even when it’s planning and tradition that he craves. He’s got swagger and charisma. Loved reading about him and seeing him bumble with flair through life to find what he wanted.

Emma was easy to relate to. I’m not a nursing type. I can’t stand blood, so I give her all the props in the world. I liked how she succumbed to Harry, but I also liked the reality of her situation. She’s torn. Fall for the playboy or chase her own dream–whatever that dream happens to be. It’s a great story and I’m glad I got to read it.

Now, there’s also Hot-Shot Doc Comes to Town in this pairing. Susan Carlisle delivers a strong story in this one and again, I cheered for these two. I liked Taylor and Shelby. They are so easy to relate to. Both have sworn off love and want their careers to blossom. Neither character is perfect and maybe that’s what drew me to them the most. They’ve got idiosyncrasies that make them human. This story also reminded me a lot of Doc Hollywood. He’s hot and ready to move up, but there she is seemingly holding him back. But whose to say holding back is giving up? You’ll have to read to find out.

Do you want a great set of stories guaranteed to make you smile? Then these are the books for you.

Together they make sweet music…but opening her heart could release the ghosts of her past.

Glenncailty Castle, Book 1

Caera Cassidy has spent two years building the historic—and haunted—Glenncailty Castle into one of the most sought-after hotels and performance venues in Ireland. But she can’t say it’s her dream. She lost that years ago when what she thought was love led her to a dark place not even her music could reach.

Once in a while, though, it’s safe to pretend. And that’s what she’s doing when she plays her harp on the empty stage in the castle’s theater.

When American folk musician Tim Wilcox spots the mysterious woman at the front of the theater, he’s enraptured. Not only by her virtuoso skill and ethereal voice, but by her dark beauty—and the shadows in her blue eyes when she insists she’s no musician.

Wary of repeating the mistakes of her past, Caera tells herself she can indulge in the pleasure of Tim’s company, his touch, without risking her heart. But she hadn’t counted on Tim’s determination to convince her she’s worthy of her gifts. Or on lingering souls who live in the castle, who are growing restless, ready to warn her that deadly mistakes are not meant to be repeated…

Music, haunted castles, and Ireland, oh my! A great setting and feel for The Harp and the Fiddle. It’s a journey of soul searching, love, and of course, music. What more could you ask for?

Caera once had a love for music, but it seems a dark place took that away. She lives behind a wall so high that it’s difficult for anyone to break past it. She cuts herself off from everyone, putting all of her work into the castle. That is, until a young man inspires her to come out of her shell and live again. Thank you for that, Tim!

Tim is visiting beautiful Ireland and doesn’t expect to be so enchanted by Caera, let alone find love with her. But they make amazing music together. Tim cracks me up–they both do. I love the humor that filled the story.

The beginning started off on the slow side, but after a few chapters, I was able to really get into the book. I love the setting, the idea of haunted castles and ghosts, and music, so this was a perfect set up for me. Tim and Caera’s relationship was a hot one from the start, as they both felt an attraction but had their own reasoning for keeping away from it until they couldn’t hide it any longer.

I enjoyed the author’s voice. Ms. Dubois has a great way of description, wit and charm that made for The Harp and the Fiddle to be a delightful read. Whether you are or aren’t a fan of music, I’d say not to miss this delightful tale of love and new chances.

Emily Thompson is your average teenager. She goes to school, has friends, and enjoys spending time with her family. The one thing that makes her different is her definition of family. To her, family means loving and accepting those around her. The fact that her dad is gay doesn’t make him any less of a father — he is the same as other dads, with the exception of who he loves. Her family may not be traditional, but it’s hers.

Who decides when and how love can be shared? Must divorce be the end of a family or can it be the beginning of something incredible?

Emily Thompson knows other people don’t understand her family dynamics. A few years after her parent’s divorce Emily learns that her father is gay. She cheers her parents on as they fall in love with other people and the entire family comes together to celebrate her mother’s remarriage. Her father and mother even dance with one another at the reception. Some friends and neighbours think this is a little odd. How can ex-spouses get along so well with one another?

The secret is that not all families look the same. Emily’s parents may no longer be romantically involved with one another but they are committed to raising their daughter together as a team. The best scene in this book occurs when Emily helps her shy, flabbergasted father set up a date with the man who will eventually become his life partner. Watching Emily’s dad sputter in embarrassment as she makes all of the arrangements was quite funny and it demonstrated her self-confidence and unconditional love for him in a tangible manner.

I would have preferred to see a better plot structure in this book. The stories Emily tells about the formation of her nontraditional family are inspirational but they are often interrupted by paragraphs discussing how certain events made her feel. Family reads more like a personal essay than a short story in several places. For the age group for which it is intended it would be more effective to stick with one writing style.

The biggest strength of this tale is that its message appeals to preteens living in a wide variety of circumstances. One doesn’t need personal experience with divorce or growing up with an LGBT parent to sympathize with Emily’s experiences. In fact, I could see this book being quite useful for kids who live with legal guardians, foster parents, single parents or who consider more than two adults to be their moms or dads.

I’d recommend Family to anyone in the market for an easy conversation starter for preteen loved ones who struggle with explaining their living arrangements to outsiders. Emily’s a great role model for anyone in this situation.

She’s still single, but not because she’s been waiting for Spence to return. After all, he left without saying goodbye. When he appears in front of her on a street corner, however, old feelings are brought to the forefront.

Spence is a small town boy turned Hollywood star. His life in the fast lane gets him involved in a scandal that likely spells disaster for his career. It is a disheartened Spence that heads back to his hometown looking for some comfort and acceptance. What he finds is a small town that is slowly dying due to economic downturn and more than a few bridges that he burned on his way out of town. Spence finds himself drawn to the girl he left behind all those years ago but Val is still sore at the way he left and that anger comes exploding out more than once. She’s afraid of the inevitable heartbreak when Spence decides to move on again. So she spends most of the story pushing him away.

The romance part of the story was slow and sweet. As a single parent Val was careful and guarded and kept waiting for Spence to disappoint her yet again.  This made the story all the more believable. The primary focus of this story was on Spence and his self discovery. Once again, this was a slow process with Spence realizing the need to rebuild the broken relationships in his life. This story was well developed with Spence investing himself in the revitalization of his hometown. The heat factor was a little mild for my personal reading taste but because the characters were so compelling, I truly enjoyed every minute of this story.

I’d recommend this one to all contemporary romance fans.

The Boudoir Sessions is a series of erotic short stories that follow the sexual misadventures of Syria, a boudoir photographer in New Mexico.

Syria meets Tyson, a romantic Santa stripper, who turns her on to a whole new alternative lifestyle through photo shoots with live sex show performers, body contortionists, and experts in Japanese bondage. But even as Syria experiments at Tyson’s suggestion, the couple begins to realize the relationship between them that began as a dalliance is proving to be something much more.

Naughty Santa

When boudoir photographer Syria meets sexy Santa Tyson, sparks fly.

Syria runs a photography business, shooting women in lingerie and the occasional provocative shoot. It works and she is always able to keep her distance. When Tyson shows up on her door with his sexy Santa wear and talent for stripping and sexy holiday bondage, she finds herself responding to him both on and off the camera.

Naughty Santa is just what the title proposes. There are more things being unwrapped under the tree than just a present or two with this red hot Santa on the photo shoot. A tantalizing photography session turns into a full throttle sex fest, freeing Syria from her inhibitions.

The writing style is what I noticed right away. It is smooth, capturing the characters seamlessly. Syria is a young woman who knows her craft, but is just awakening the sensual world that awaits her in the arms of Tyson. She describes every action, Syria’s thoughts and emotions as she lives a truly sensual experience and the dialogue pops.

If you want a hot holiday read and the start of a wonderful new series that will have you on the edge of your e-reader, then you need to check out Starla Cole’s Naughty Santa.

Dirty Pirate Hooker

This second book in the Boudoir Sessions was a continuation right where Naughty Santa left off.

Tyson gets ready to leave for home and Syria is lonely just thinking about it. A robust round of sexual exploits warms up the book and gets you totally hooked to see where the story is going. The photo shoot Syria has next is with Mia and Sam, a pair that Tyson happens to know well, and he encourages Syria to go with it. Meeting the pirate themed entertainers, Syria finds them to be sexy and before she knows it, the session gets hot and Syria experience a ménage that will change her forever. Both in front of and behind the camera, Syria gets an education in lovemaking that will set your e-reader on fire.

This book was a hot continuation of the Boudoir Sessions and one that I found very enjoyable. Sam and Mia are vibrant and sexy characters that added a lusty pirate theme to the storyline. Syria learns about ménage and the photo shoot is a rousing success in more ways than one.

If you enjoy a series that will capture your imagination and hot characters to spend your nights with, then The Boudoir Sessions is for you.

Trading his MARPATS for jeans and his cover for a cowboy hat, he plans to work his ranch and pray the green grass, tall trees, and sweet mountains can wash away the taste of the desert.

The last thing he expected was a reminder of a promise made to his buddies: one night to help them all start again.

Sheri Vaughn quit her corporate job, sold her house and moved to Freewill on a whim. Six months after her divorce, she’s hardly ready to put her toe in the dating waters again. One bottle of wine later, however, she signs up for Madame Eve’s exclusive 1Night Stand service and lists a very particular set of qualities she wants in a man; he must be honorable, courageous, forthright, single, have served as Marine, but be a cowboy at heart. If she wants to dream, at least she can dream big.

But when local hero A.J. Turner arrives home, Madame Eve comes through, and Sheri has to find the courage to make her dream a reality…

Two of the sexiest male stereotypes come together for one hot story. Cowboys and Military Men. This is the premise of The Marine Cowboy.

A.J. Turner is fresh from battle and has just returned to his hometown of Freewill, Wyoming. After agreeing to a pact with his buddies, he signs up for Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand Service and then promptly forgets about it. He shuts off his phone and buries it in a drawer, looking forward to the hard work and peaceful life his family ranch can provide. A brief encounter with the town librarian is the only thing distracting him from his tranquility, until the local postman brings him a message from his former commander, instructing him to turn his phone back on. A.J.’s date has been arranged, and he has little time to prepare.

Sheri Vaughn moved to Freewill over the winter in order to start a new life. Divorced from a serial cheater, she signs up for the 1Night Stand Service in hopes of meeting her dream man, but her demands are very specific. She wants a Marine Cowboy, and nothing less will do. When her fantasy walks into the cafe before her very eyes, she thinks he may be too good to be true. Thanks to Madame Eve, however, she’ll have her opportunity to find out.

The chemistry with these two characters was instant. Ms. Long does a wonderful job with dialogue, and I could picture the southern drawl coming from A.J.’s lips, endearing him even more than he already had. A.J.s confidence, mixed with Sheri’s romantic dreaminess was a winning combination. No doubt these two belonged together. The hot sex that followed their meeting was just an added bonus!

Two very minor complaints about the story – although I hesitate to use the word complaints because the story is wonderful. The first is the feeling that these two would have met and hit it off even without Madame Eve. Watching A.J. approach Sheri to ask her out would have been fun in any situation. The second is the abrupt ending. I know the 1Night Stand stories are limited to only one night, but an epilogue with an update as to how they’re doing would have been nice-mainly because I wanted more time with these two! They were too much fun!

The Always a Marine series by Heather Long is worth the time, and The Marine Cowboy is definitely no exception. These are all worth picking up and are super hot reads!

Before I get too far into my review, let me first say that I absolutely LOVED this book. The highly emotional story called to me and I was captivated by one character in particular. Chloe was the perfect heroine. At first she appeared to be just another vulnerable woman. But let me tell you, this gal had the strength to hold her own in a story laden with Alpha males. Now, with that being said, there were a couple of characters that disappointed me in this story.

In the previous book, Chloe had been assigned by her King to look after his hybrid daughter, Mina, who had no idea of her heritage. The girls bonded and became like sisters, until the deception was revealed. Eventually Mina was reunited with her father and became mated to Chloe’s brother Matthias. But Mina felt bitter towards her best friend for the betrayal and lashed out at Chloe, saying some terrible things to her. Never mind that Chloe had put her life on hold and left the safety of her home to keep the ungrateful girl safe. Another slap in Chloe’s face came from the man she had loved for years. A misunderstanding caused Talon to verbally attack my gal Chloe at the lowest point in her life. No wonder she decided to leave it all behind and move on with her life somewhere else. If I would have been in her place , I would’ve given them all the one finger salute and moved far – far away.

What can I say about Talon ? He did make a drool worthy hero . True that. Yet, because of the cruel way he treated Chloe I never could connect with him . Jealousy was no excuse for calling her a whore. But it did get me all fired up and wanting to see how his character would be redeemed. He somewhat redeemed himself by the concern he showed about her safety once it was revealed that there was a traitor in their midst. And when he showed his true feelings by finally breaking rank and rushing to save her. But did he have to continually belittle her and undermine her confidence? Despite his Alpha hotness , I still could not find it in myself to forgive him even though Chloe did. It also took him too long to overcome his insecurities and realize that he was worthy of her.

The writers have created one of the most unique shifter series today. The first two stories have been bursting with sexual tension and conflict. But the main conflict within the series stems from the blood feud between the two factions of the Coteri. We have the Coteri who want to keep their existence a secret and co-exist with the humans that surround them. Then there is their nemesis , the Valta, who believe their race to be superior and want to subjugate the humans. The resulting battles between the two warring factions and the spying and treason that run rampant are guaranteed to keep this series going for a long time to come. The writers superb world building and descriptions give their stories a three dimensional presence that is usually found only on the big screen. The characters are vibrant and compelling. The hero’s bring all the Alpha hotness that we’ve come to expect in our shifter stories. But it is the heroines that they have created that really stand out and make this series different than any other. These gals aren’t your usual heroine de jour. They are kick-ass women with attitude. Another good thing about this story, and the series as a whole, are the many exciting characters that have been introduced. I hope that the writers will consider giving each one of them their own story. Starting with Tre and Daniel. I am absolutely DYING to read about Tre finding his own mate.

In case you haven’t guessed yet: I loved this book! It’s a keeper for me and I’m sure to read it many more times. It’s one of those rare ones that grabs you right from the start and doesn’t let go. I was disappointed when the story ended and am looking forward to the next book in the series. For all of my fellow shifter groupies that are looking for something new, something refreshing and unique….you need to grab this book. It’s got an exciting plot that you can sink your teeth into even if you don’t want to jump into the series. As for me…I’m hooked on this series and I’m into it for the long haul. Needless to say this book earned one of my very rare five star ratings and my highest recommendations.
