Author Starla Cole has a great series with The Boudoir Sessions. If you missed the first two, I highly suggest getting them and reading them in order. You won’t be disappointed. Whether it is ménage or rope work, these books are addictive. In Goddess of Bondage, Syria continues her journey by going to a bondage exhibition with Mia and a whole new adventure ensues. There was nothing I didn’t like about this book. The flow was amazing, the characters delicious and the right amount of peril and pleasure were balanced out. There was a hot scene with fisting, some really hot video phone sex, voyeurism and lots more surprises at the Shibari event. This book was like drinking a salted caramel mocha while you are wrapped in your favorite blanket. Wonderful!

Making house calls or meeting people in public places is how Ray Gordon makes his living. He’s not a doctor. He’s not a prostitute. Ray Gordon is a chess teacher.

When one of Ray’s students, Walter Kelly, is found dead in his shop, the police and his family let it go as an accident. Ray, however, doesn’t buy it. As a former cop with a lingering curiosity, Ray snoops around and stumbles into the murky world of methamphetamine, the worst drug epidemic of our time.
It might be caused by a disease in tadalafil 20mg tablets the digestive system and excreted. Besides, sometimes levitra samples such injections can cause to extended and agonizing construction that can last up to 48 hours.
The problem? Walter Kelly was sixty-five years old and his only addictions were woodworking and chess. How does a sixty-five-year-old man become involved with illegal drugs? Why is a neighbor glad Walter’s dead? And just how do dead men play chess?

Ray Gordon is a professional chess teacher, plays correspondence chess through the mail, and also moonlights to assist and give lessons to a few adults for short periods of time. While he originally turned Walter Kelly down as he lived too far away, Walter had pointed out he knew Ray’s mother before she’d been killed in a car accident when Ray was a kid. Curious, Ray decided to give Walter a few lessons. For more than a year Ray helped Walter’s chess game improve and – more importantly – listened to all sorts of stories of his mother from high school, enjoying getting to know her. When Ray arrives at Walter’s doorstep for his regular session one day, it’s to discover Walter is dead.

Despite his good intentions Ray gets drawn into looking at the circumstances surrounding Walter’s death and what follows is an awesome mystery novel. This is an intriguing book, a pure mystery, filled with chess moves and trivia and a fantastic plot that winds around, not once becoming boring or stagnant. While I’m not a fan of chess (and can’t play a game to save my life) I found myself really interested in the history of the game, the moves and eclectic pieces of information the author drops. I didn’t find myself at all lost or drowning under vats of information, either. This book is refreshing and really well written. Ray’s a regular man and the tone of the book and his voice is interesting, the plot moving along at a good clip but not so fast it leaves the uneducated chess person behind.

Mystery lovers, regardless of their enjoyment or lack thereof of chess, will really enjoy this story. I loved the plot, became highly attached to the characters and enjoyed learning a bit about chess all at the same time. Highly Recommended.

This is the second story I’ve read by this author and just like the previous one, it was a fun read. It’s amusing and packs a lot into its eleven pages. Also like the previous story, this one is filled with quirky characters that shell out snappy dialogue. There’s a twist in the tale and the only thing I didn’t like was that the ending felt abrupt. This story could have gone on longer to round out the plot and give us more insight into these great characters the author has created.

If you’re in the mood for a mystery but short on time, this is definitely a good pick for you.

As the days turn into weeks both Eddie and Rie get closer and slowly a hesitant trust and friendship blossoms between them amongst the alien landscape. This is sweet romance, mostly centered around the pain of betrayal and the healing and tender opening of the heart afterwards. Set in a world full of missions and space travel, hydro-mining and a somewhat alternate reality it’s a wonderful mixture of emotional romance and science fiction. A gentle, heartwarming story; I really enjoyed this.

A school custodian’s job is usually pretty unexciting. But one night when Frank is locking up, he spies two intruders carrying automatic pistols. He suspects they have come for the two young Mexican boys who are spending the night in Ms. Castellon’s room. The boys reveal that the men are narcotraficantes, determined to finish the job of eliminating their entire family. Sometimes the only way to survive a dangerous situation is by making the right decision in a split second. How would you define courage? Is it something we’re born with or is it the culmination of a thousand choices made when you think no one is watching?

From the beginning of this tale I was intrigued by the idea of four unarmed, law-abiding individuals – two terrified children, a physically disabled man and a woman who is described as quite petite – attempting to outsmart armed criminals on a deadly mission. The plot moves so quickly that the reader isn’t provided with a great deal of background information about Frank, Ms. Castellon, Adam or Christiano but the glimpses we are given illuminate their courage and resourcefulness in even the stickiest situations. Frank knows the cartilage in his knee is damaged. It came as a surprise, then, that he was so easily able to run around in the dark and lift heavy objects throughout the course of the plot. Surely his knee would have slowed him down once the adrenaline wore off. I also questioned Frank’s career choice given his physical limitations. Custodians are on their feet doing physical labour during every shift. While some disabilities can be accommodated in this sort of occupation I don’t know how well someone with a bad knee would be able to function in this role. Wondering about this was a distraction as I attempted to figure out why we’d learn information about a character that later seemed to be forgotten or overlooked.

Still, the plot was intriguing, and the action intense.  More, the final scene redeemed the story for me. While the ending was foreshadowed earlier on it was done so subtly that I didn’t notice what was happening on my first read through it. If you’re looking for a book that goes out with a bang give Darkness, Darkness a try.

Will the three men be able to work out their romantic feelings? Oh yeah…and then there’s that little issue of the zombies…

The zombie apocalypse has happened and Bryce finds himself completely alone until his life is saved by Richard. Bryce joins with Richard and his partner, Cole, heading for a haven they’ve heard about on the radio.

This a fast paced book, full of action and humanity. A realistic story of three men who band together after an apocalyptic zombie infection, this wasn’t gory or overly bloodthirsty. Nevertheless it gives the reader a deep insight to how seemingly normal things would change and the effect that would have on people. Strangers grouping for comfort and strength, just how far they would be pushed for survival – not only against the zombies but also for smaller things, like food, safety, travel and sleep.

More than the zombie-plot, this is a book that explores the emotions of a threesome, and of how such a stressful event can effect people. I found myself drawn into the triangle between Richard, Bryce and Cole and the complexities of their relationship and the situation they found themselves in. Readers with a queasy stomach might want to be careful reading this – there are deaths and, while not graphic they’re not glossed over either. And while there is sex in it – this is definitely a plot and character heavy novella. The erotica is just a bit of extra spice – not the main meal. Quite a different story from most books I’ve read – I really enjoyed this.

That’s until he meets his new partner, a mouthy, disturbingly hot Brit called Shane, and discovers that the bar’s in the red and Shane’s not interested in renovations that could drive away their regulars.

When a late-night confrontation turns into the hottest sex either of them has experienced, they realize there’s one way to fit a square peg into a round hole, but are they solving problems or papering over the cracks? As they explore the new dynamic between them, pushing their limits until Ben’s shocked at where his desire to dominate Shane takes him, the renovations to the bar begin. They’re building something new, something good — but fear and an unexpected act of violence may tear down what they’ve created.

Everything about Ben screams uptight including his form fitting suit, accounting profession and need to come into Shane’s bar and change everything. The only problem is, the bar isn’t only Shane’s, it belongs to both of them so somehow they will need to learn to work together.

I love the dynamic between Shane and Ben’s personality. From their blatant differences in personalities to their inability to agree on anything… well, anything except for the mutual attraction to one another. It is clear that they are going to need some work regarding the bar and figure some way to meet in the middle. Ben while out of his element wants to make the bar as successful as possible. Shane feels as if he has been running the bar long enough to know what it needs and what is right, even if admittedly something have feel through the cracks.

The physical attraction between the characters is instantly recognizable. Even when the author doesn’t come out and say it directly you can tell there is something pulling these two together. While they may not recognize or understand that they have the unique ability to give each other what they need I as a reader could recognize it. It made the story more entertaining to watch how they figured out themselves and their need for one another.

The BDSM element in this story was intriguing. The characters seem to fall right into the role of dominant and submissive without even recognizing their own needs or each others. One thing that I would have liked was for one of them to educate themselves on safety regarding their actions. I couldn’t help but wonder if they would push the envelope too far and not understand what type of potential physical and emotional damage they would have done. Luckily, they did not harm one another and instead looked to meet each other’s needs. Now I hope some of the other characters in the story can also find there happily ever after, and I have a feeling this isn’t the last of The Square Peg we will see.

“You will never understand what it means to be fat.” With those words, grad student Robbie Smith begins the Fat-Like-Me project. In order to support her thesis, she puts on a fat suit to measure people’s reactions to the new her.

Accused of embezzling funds, Professor Jake Proctor returns home to spend quality time with the only father he has ever known. With a depth I found surprising in a contemporary romance, Ms. Bower has created a beautiful love story as well and a lovely fiction novel about accepting others from the inside out.

Robbie is such a wonderful character. She’s loyal and determined and so willing to fight for what she thinks is right. She spars with her professor about her project: dressing as an obese woman. Her professor isn’t sold on the idea, but Robbie really thinks it’s the best way to prove her thesis for college. Her overweight friends help with insight, advice and clothing.

How could she know she’d meet a great guy while dressed in her costume?

Jake returns home to be with his grandfather, Frank, the man who raised him. Frank is a great character, so full of fun and life, despite his age. And Jake, for all his crankiness at the beginning, really loves his grandfather.  He really becomes a man to admire as the book progresses.

Ms. Bower has such a talented way with words. I felt as if I knew each character in this book, as if I would know them if I passed them on the street. The affection between many of them was palpable, friends, family, lovers.

While the storyline itself may not be overly complex, it was thoroughly enjoyable, sweet and tugs at the heart-strings. If this type of character building and description is par for the course for this author, she’s won a permanent fan.

If you’re looking for a sweet story that is populated with characters you’ll feel are your friends before you turn the last page; if you love a romance between a couple that’s built on affection before sex and is believably deep and lasting, then I recommend “Woman of Substance”. It’s more than you might think.
