When a sexy veterinarian rescues a brooding attorney, the temperature rises…

Perfectly content saving animals at her clinic in a charming but run-down neighborhood, veterinarian Ellie Blevins slams into new landlord Jackson Kincaid, who plans to turn the local buildings into condos.

Hotshot defense attorney Jackson is intrigued by the feisty Ellie and gives her one month to convince him not to put his gentrification plans into progress. Attraction soon sizzles between them, but when Jackson makes his desires known, Ellie’s vulnerable heart doesn’t know what to think.
It also has a potential for a reversible lesion, which means it can evolve into a order cheap levitra cancer. But it cannot not treat a loss of sexual drive generic levitra online that occurs due to low testosterone hormone levels. She wants to trust the sinfully handsome Jackson, just as he wants to gain her trust, but finding their way to love isn’t easy when her traumatic past and his criminal clients threaten to sabotage their relationship for good.

Can the enchanting veterinarian and the guarded attorney fight the ghosts of the past and build a new future?

“One single month to convince an angry lion not to eat her up?” I don’t normally open a review with a quote from the book but this line was brilliant and I was breathless from Ellie and Jackson’s first encounter. He wants to be her dragon slayer and she heals him in ways he never imagined possible.

My first impression of Ellie Blevins, besides loving that she obviously has a huge heart for animals, is of a feisty, hard working, I’m not afraid to stand up for myself, owner of her dreams. Jackson was used to speaking and seeing people jump through hoops. Ellie didn’t do hoops.

First impression of Jackson Kincaid: he may be all kinds of dark dangerous alpha male but it was going to be a delight to watch Ellie bring him down a notch or three. Not to make him less of man, just less of a jerk and actually more of a man. Ms. Ohlin didn’t disappoint. The fall of Jackson Kincaid was as hot as it was smooth and satisfying.

By the way, Jackson isn’t really a jerk, he just plays one really well when confronted with a beautiful, sassy vet determined to not lose what she loves. It took only a conversation with his best friend and dose of his back story for me to realize I was going to fall in lust with this book hero right along with Ellie. He calls her ‘Babe’ and I felt it right along with her. ‘Babe’ doesn’t work for me in every book. It works really well for Jackson and Ellie’s book.

Readers, this is one of those books. The kind that makes you feel a little swoony when you read it. The story flows well, the characters have well built, pull-at-your-heart-strings background stories, and just the right amount of tension that builds up to some explosive love making. I knew very early on that I would be looking for other books by this author if they all read this well.

Looking for a hot book on a cold night? Salvaging Love is the first in the Rescue Me series and I can see Duggan’s book building to be a wonderful followup.

Curtis Clark stepped back to scrutinize his work. The split rail fence he’d just built was kick-ass…the rest of his life, not so much.

Taking a gulp of water, he frowned. Life was like a nightmare he couldn’t wake up from. Two months ago, he’d been living the dream racing in the NASCAR Truck Series, and now he was doing random carpentry jobs. He rubbed at the tight feeling in his chest and got back to work. He’d just placed the next piece of wood when something fuzzy brushed against his leg. He jerked back and then laughed when a wriggling black Lab squeezed in between him and the fence.

“Hey, there.” CC squatted down to rub the Lab’s neck and was rewarded with a doggie grin. “Where did you come from?”

The dog licked his face, eliciting happy memories from CC’s childhood. “You’re a sweet girl,” he cooed after taking a peek to determine gender. “Are you a stray?”

“She’s not a stray.”

His mind and body vibrated like his truck engine at the beginning of a race. He hadn’t heard that female voice in over ten years, but it was ingrained in his heart and his soul. He couldn’t turn around, couldn’t move, couldn’t even breathe.

Holly Nicholson—his high school sweetheart, the love of his life…the woman who had shattered his heart.

Goshen, Indiana

I was born and raised in a town in Indiana named Goshen. I have one brother and one sister, both younger than me. We grew up in a home that was very confusing. I did not understand at the time I was a child why my parents did what they did. They very well knew how to act like the best Hollywood actors, but were never professional actors. My father was a construction worker. He brought back pretty good dough. We were never needy. When he came home though he was tired, very tired and he spent not much time with us (his children). Every now and then he would take us to the park and sometimes to exciting places such as: zoos, museums, sporting games, and sometimes the theatre. My mother on the other hand worked part time as a seamstress. She was home more often and she would take us out more often than our father. The only thing that had me; that had all of us confused was there constant change in characters. After living with them for some time you just got used to the routine. On Friday and Saturday nights we were left home alone. At first, I wasn’t sure where my parents were going, but as soon as I reached an age where I could understand; it was clear. Not knowing exactly, but I knew it was a bar or club of the sorts. They came home drunk and sometimes high.

Clarity — I’ve been on my own since I was sixteen, and I’ve fought tooth and nail to make a life for myself and the son I never planned to have. Caleb is my entire world, despite the circumstances of his birth. Being homeless a second time certainly hadn’t been in my life plans, so when a gruff yet sexy biker offers a bit of help, how can I possibly say no? Doesn’t hurt that the older man is easy on the eyes, and he’s so good with Caleb. I’d thought I wasn’t able to trust anyone ever again, but looking into his eyes, I know deep down he’d never hurt us. It just never occurred to me that I’d fall completely in love with him.

I’ll slay her demons, bury the monsters from her past, and then I’ll do the one thing I thought I’d never do… claim an old lady, then make her my wife.

A Sweet Story.

The beginning was surprise, but a welcome one. A homeless mom seeks shelter at the doorway of a building owned by a local motorcycle gang. What she did not expect was this huge and intimidating guy to give her and her son a place to say. The relationship that developed between all three of them was definitely something to watch.

Clarity is homeless but above all else she is a mother and her need to keep her son safe and fed makes her take that helping hand from Scratch. Scratch is quite a bit older than her but also understood enough to give her and her son space as well as everything they would need to grow. He was insightful enough to know that there were somethings that would take time to heal.

Clarity’s trust in Scratch did not come immediately. Instead it came gradually. Action speaks louder than words and his actions were loud and clear. Their chemistry rose up each time spend together with each other. There is drama. Thing about it–a woman, child and biker plus romance? There has to be drama and this book delivers. Between the kid, Scratch’s brothers, Clarity’s past and the club, it kept me entertained throughout.

There is a mystery in here that took some time to unravel but the suspense of it made it all so worth it.

The story is of trust and love and family. Recommended.

Blake may not have directly featured on Kade’s bucket list, but his Australian accent and surfer-boy looks have featured in enough of Kade’s sexual fantasies over the years to convince Kade to keep following this new, unpredictable path.

To Kade’s surprise and delight, it is a path that brings him a taste of happiness he didn’t know he was missing—a taste that threatens to be stolen from him when his ex makes an unwelcome return to the scene. Kade might have been having the time of his life with Blake, but he hasn’t been completely honest about his recently ended relationship or the origins of his bucket list.

Will Kade be able to convince him to stick around when Blake learns the truth?

This was a really great read!

Kade got dumped, so his mates made him a Bucket List. What could go wrong? Well, nothing really, because Kade meets Blake. The meeting is right near the top of that list. Blake pushes Kade to make some changes to his life and to himself–but only because Kade wants to make those changes. Nothing is pushed onto him, bar the list.

The situation with Kade’s ex unravels itself beautifully. It’s not all laid out, and the pieces and clues come in dribs and drabs at first and then speed up, which is great. It’s hot and steamy in places, but I didn’t think it got especially emotional. I didn’t FEEL that emotion coming off the page. It’s well written, and well delivered. Only Kade has a say, and this could have been a 5 star read had Blake been given a voice.

Still, a delightfully sexy, sweet story that passed a couple of hours on a quiet Sunday evening at work.  4 good solid stars.

Making a Make-Believe World Believable

Fantasy literature transports you from the mundane world into the strange and the magical. How does it do this? By making that world believable, in its setting, its use of magic, and in its characters. To transport you, the fantasy world must be as complex and rich as reality. While I don’t like works that give long lectures on the history and geography, a sense of both must be present in the fantasy world—this sense preferably arising naturally from the needs of the plot and unfolding bit by bit. For example, in The Goddess’s Choice the way we learn about the longstanding animosity and history of warfare between Korth and Lundia is through the king’s pressure on the crown princess Samantha to marry. King Solar believes her marriage is necessary to maintain the fragile peace between the joined kingdoms. The history and culture of the joined kingdoms flow from and enhance the story’s central conflict.

Magic is an essential element of fantasy; yet to be believable, any system of magic must be both consistent and limited in scope. When the limitations on the wizard or sorcerer are clearly established, tension builds as he or she must work within those limits. The existence of magic doesn’t allow the writer to cheat. My hero’s Robbie’s magic lies in the ability to connect to the mind and body of another. It only works on living things. He can’t suddenly have the ability to warp metal even though that would be convenient. The use of his magic also depletes him physically, so he must be wise in its use. His strength is also his vulnerability.

For me, the most important element in creating a believable fantasy world lies in the characters. A believable world must be peopled with believable characters. In reality, few people are without flaws, but few are so bad that they have no redeeming qualities. Fantasy characters must be equally complex. Heroes must not be completely virtuous, and villains at least need sound motives for their villainy. Robbie is burdened with anger, and Samantha is headstrong and somewhat insensitive. On the other hand, Argblutal believes (with some justification) the throne is rightfully his and that he’d be a better king than a eighteen-year-old girl. When I read a novel, if I can believe a writer’s characters, I can forgive other inconsistencies with the work, but if I cannot believe the characters, nothing else the writer does can redeem the story. Depth of character is the key to believability in the make-believe world of fantasy.

The three volumes of The Kronicles of Korthlundia plus The Ghost in Exile: A Korthlundian Kronicle brought together for one low price. In addition to the novels, the collection features several bonus short stories, previously available only to members of my readers’ club.

The Goddess’s Choice–In a world where the corrupt church hides the truth about magic, the fate of the joined kingdom falls on the shoulders of two young people from opposite ends of the social hierarchy.

Crown Princess Samantha’s life begins to fall apart when she starts seeing strange colors around her potential suitors. She fears that she’s going insane–or worse that she’s defying the Goddess’s will. Robrek is a lowly farm boy with incredible magical powers. He has been biding his time waiting to get revenge on those who call him a demon.

Thrown together by chance, they must overcome their differences to fight their common enemy Duke Argblutal, who, with dark magic, is slowly poisoning the king’s mind and turning him against his own daughter. Time is running out for those chosen by the Goddess to prevent the power mad duke from usurping the throne and plunging the joined kingdoms into civil war.

The Soul Stone– A match made by the goddess is threatened by an Ancient Evil.

As Samantha and Robrek prepare for their marriage and coronation, they are met with opposition on all sides. Not all believe that the peasant sorcerer is worthy to be king, and the young couple must perform delicate political maneuvers to prevent the joined kingdoms from breaking apart.

As the church splits over opposition to their union, an unseen force is poised to release an ancient evil that was last defeated a thousand years ago. When the Soul Stone is broken free of its bonds, all life in its path succumbs to its power. How much will the new royal couple have to sacrifice to free the joined kingdoms of its evil?

The Ghost in Exile—A special Kronicle outside of the series that tells the story of Darhour. The novel takes place at the same time as The Soul Stone. The Ghost is going to hell. Not even the goddess can forgive his sins: assassin, oath-breaker, traitor (an affair with the queen earned him that title). No one can ever learn the princess is his daughter. To keep this secret, he flees to the land that turned him from a simple stable groom into an infamous killer.

His mission now? To find evildoers and take them to hell with him. But when an impulsive act of heroism saddles him with a damsel who refuses to be distressed, her resilience forces him to question why he really ran from his daughter.

The Shattered Throne– Queen Samantha’s spirit brightens as the festival of renewal approaches. The Ancient Evil that drained life from the land has been destroyed, and life is returning to the joined kingdoms. The birth of her heir gives her even more reason to celebrate. But a coup orchestrated by the unlikely alliance between a freedom-loving count and a fanatical church shatters both her plans and the ancient throne itself.

With her infant daughter missing and death and destruction spreading, Samantha finds herself faced with an impossible choice: save her daughter or her people. Already torn between a mother’s love and her duties as a queen, Samantha learns that an even greater danger threatens: the goddess herself is fading. What sacrifices will Samantha have to make to stop an evil god from taking Sulis’s place?

He returned to the horses, loaded the supplies on Wild Thing, and rode in silence to the abandoned stable. Robbie led the horse inside. When he lit the lantern he kept there, he let out a whistle of amazement. The horse was a bronze-colored mare that looked more like it was forged out of metal than living flesh! But the horse’s impossible color wasn’t the only thing that struck Robbie. Sores spotted the beast’s body; puss and blood oozed from under the saddle. The horse’s coat was matted with dried blood. Her ribs stood out in stark detail. How could anyone neglect a horse so badly? “Where could you have come from, girl?” Robbie could feel a wail building up inside the horse, so he hurried to take the armor and other equipment off her back, unsaddled her, and removed her harness.

“I don’t think you’re a demon. But I don’t know what you are. By the look of the armor you must have been some knight’s lady. But what happened to him? Sores like these don’t form overnight. If he’s still alive, he obviously doesn’t deserve a lady like you. So how about it? Will you be my lady?” He paused at the sound of his own words. Milady. “I had a lady once. For one day, that is. My brother didn’t approve—I’m sure he wouldn’t approve of you, either.”

About the Author:Jamie began writing stories about the man from Mars when she was six, and she never remembers wanting to be anything other than a writer. Everyone told her she needed a back up plan, so she pursued a Ph.D. in American literature, which she received in 1998. She started teaching writing and literature at Auburn University. One day in the midst of writing a piece of literary criticism, she realized she’d put her true passion on the backburner and neglected her muse. The literary article went into the trash, and she began the book that was to become The Goddess’s Choice, which was published in April 2012. Her other novels include The Soul Stone, The Ghost in Exile, The Shattered Throne, and The Bull Riding Witch. In addition, she has published a novella, Demons in the Big Easy, and a collection of short stories, Blood Cursed and Other Tales of the Fantastic. Her short fiction has also appeared in the anthologies Urban Fantasy, Of Dragons & Magic: Tales of the Lost Worlds, and Waiting for a Kiss. She claims she writes about the fantastic . . . and the tortured soul. Her poor characters have hard lives. She lives in Auburn, Alabama, with her husband and five cats, which (or so she’s been told) officially makes her a cat lady. She still teaches writing and literature at Auburn University. She is the mother of a grown son.

Memeing It by Tia Fielding – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Tia Fielding who is visiting with us to celebrate today’s release of Thirteen, book 3 in her Love By Numbers series.

Memeing It

I recently saw this meme that went something like this:

If you had to explain yourself based on three of your favorite TV shows, which ones would they be?

For the purpose of this blog post, I’m going to tell you three of my favorite shows of all time, and why exactly they are my favorites or, maybe explain something about who I am as a person.

The first one is called Lie to Me. It ran for three seasons (2009-2011) but I only found it a few years after it had already ended.

Wikipedia says: In the show, Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and his colleagues in The Lightman Group accept assignments from third parties (commonly local and federal law enforcement), and assist in investigations, reaching the truth through applied psychology: interpreting microexpressions, through the Facial Action Coding System, and body language.

Why does this call to me? Well I’m very interested in what makes people tick. I also enjoy shows about sarcastic smart people which Dr. Lightman definitely is (House MD, anyone?) But I learned so much from this show! Not only has it amazing acting and great storylines, each episode was well thought out and written, and like I said, you learn a lot watching it. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Second show is Queer as Folk (US version, ran 2000-2005) and this is one of the shows I own on DVD (even though I don’t have any way to actually play the discs anymore…)

Wikipedia says: Based on the British series of the same name created by Russell T Davies, Queer as Folk was the first hour-long drama on American television to portray the lives of homosexual men and women.

Why does it call to me? Brian. Kinney. Okay, okay, so maybe Gale Harold’s character is one of my favorite ones ever (for many reasons) but he’s not The Reason for my love of QaF.

This show has great characters that seem realistic. The storylines are interesting, the writing, once again, is incredible, and well, it’s also plain hot. There’s a lot of sex, which at the original time the show aired was pretty scandalous but isn’t actually that racy on today’s standards.

There’s also the original, UK version of QaF which I never got into, and it has a young Charlie Hunnam in it.

I recommend the US version of Queer as Folk to everyone who loves gay romance. You won’t be disappointed.

Third, and newest, of my favorite shows is 9-1-1 (2018-).

Wikipedia says: The series follows the lives of Los Angeles first responders: police officers, paramedics, firefighters and dispatchers.

More to the point, if you’re looking for a place that would diligently take care of all your problems, A-Vascular might be your grandma! Today the women that ride aren’t all young and wild. buy viagra in australia It really is an amazing drug when soft tab viagra you think about it. The research tadalafil 20mg into adaptogens grows and several of the ingredients used in VigRX plus which acts as an aphrodisiac because it is mild in potency. This document 25mg barato viagra does not contain all possible drug interactions. Why it calls to me: Two words: brilliant writing. You know that thing where you watch a show and they hint at say, a romance between unlikely characters (I’m looking at you, otherwise-one-of-my-top-five-shows-of-all-time, Criminal Minds…) and it never happens. Or there’s something else that could be potentially controversial and they hint at it but bail at the last moment?

Not this show. I won’t spoil any of it for you, because there are things that you need to experience yourself for sure, but just know this: 9-1-1 never really takes the easy way out.
Sure, there’s the usual action and the showy things that go with series like this, but even those are somehow better and definitely more exciting than in some of the more tired-feeling shows.

One notable thing is, that in 2020, we got a spin-off series, 9-1-1: Lone Star that’s set in Austin, TX, and has a very diverse cast of characters. The original series is diverse already, but Lone Star amps that up a notch, writes the reason for such a cast into the story itself, and that makes it awesome. We’re only a handful of episodes in with Lone Star, but it’s already shaping up to be a delightful addition to the 9-1-1 family.

So final conclusion? I like good writing. I like interestingly written characters, follow through, and realism. Even when it’s embellished for entertainment purposes, it’s realism that sells things for me.

After working as a beat cop in big cities, deputy Mark Forrest has finally found a home away from his abusive parents in the tiny town of Acker, Wisconsin. His life is mostly quiet and peaceful, but also a little bit lonely from staying in his self-imposed closet. Raised in a toxic household, Mark grew up hating himself and doesn’t know any other way. After upsetting half of Acker and the LGBTQ community living there, Mark has felt even worse. He’s not that hateful, prejudiced guy, but how would anyone believe him, when he’s hiding who he is?

Nurse Francis Archer loves his job at a maternity clinic. He’s been through a lot, having grown up gay among the AIDS crisis. When he rejects the advances from a colleague and the man accuses him of sexual misconduct, Francis decides to cut his losses and run away to his old friends in Wisconsin. On the way there, he hooks up with an intriguing younger man who ends up being everything Francis thought he was, and so much more.

Meeting Mark again in Acker comes as a shock, but the two men can’t deny the chemistry between them. Mark craves being able to let go, and Francis loves to take him out of his head, but things aren’t quite that simple. Mark’s internalized homophobia and inability to stand up to his family make things rough, and Francis’s job as a live-in nurse for an elderly couple won’t last forever, given his patients’ declining health.

With the friends and found family they have in Acker and some welcome visitors from New Jersey, they might just have the help they need with figuring out what’s truly important.

Trigger Warning: Abusive language, homophobia, vague descriptions of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

This is one election that no one can miss.

I liked the world building. Exactly the right amount of time was spent describing who God was and how he differed from the average person’s understanding of him. His species was a unique one, and there were plenty of things about how their society worked that stretched my mind in a good way. I enjoyed the process of getting to know this character as he campaigned to remain the deity in charge of Earth.

The pacing was often slow and uneven. As excited as I was by the blurb, I had trouble focusing on the storyline in certain spots because of how much time it took for the plot to develop new twists or for the characters to react to the old ones. It sure would have been helpful to have more stuff happening in general. The blurb was certainly filled with great ideas that were never fully explored.

There was so much humor woven into this story. I was wonderfully surprised by how often it made me chuckle. The author did a good job of using different sorts of jokes, too, from irreverent moments to gentle jabs at all sorts of assumptions a reader might make about what God would or wouldn’t want from humans. These scenes were clearly meant to not only make the audience laugh but to keep the plot moving forward as well. I liked the way Mr. Oldbury made sure they fulfilled both purposes equally.

The Universal Guide to Human Racing should be read by anyone who likes tongue-in-cheek books.
