It all starts with sex under a desk…

Heart of Fame, Book 7

After yet another month without a lead singer, the band Synergy is on the verge of calling it quits. Which drives Jaxon Campbell, keyboardist and perpetual player, to do something dangerous—hit up a woman with contacts—and curves—in all the right places. Trouble is, the last time he saw her, he kind of broke her heart. And stole her cherished, autographed AC/DC album.

Hence this makes the medicine almost perfectly equivalent to branded versions. http://www.devensec.com/sustain/DEEC_Overview.pdf sildenafil super active Ginseng stimulates the body’s functions, generates a sense levitra free samples of well being and improves the physical capacity for activity. PVD causes reduction of blood flow viagra pfizer prix to the legs (sometimes termed as poor circulation) and this situation can come occasionally or frequently. It’s been described as producing the benefits of Propecia (long term maintenance) and it doesn’t involve levitra de prescription the negative effects (some of which are documented as being associated with sexual dysfunction). 5. Natalie Thorton, Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, knows everyone who’s anyone in Australia’s music industry. She’s driven and utterly professional and doesn’t have room in her schedule for relationships.

When Jaxon strides into her office, all of Natalie’s suppressed sexual urges—the ones born in Jax’s arms—surge to the surface. He wants something from her? Well, she wants something from him. Orgasms. Lots of them.

How can Jax say no? He’s never forgotten her, and it’s not like they’re going to fall in love. But just who’s playing who? And whose heart is going to fall first?

Getting Played is the latest episode of Lexxie Couper’s Heart of Fame series, and the hottest one yet. I like this world Ms. Couper has built, and the people that inhabit this world.

Time is running out in the search for a replacement for Nick Blackthorne. Synergy has just a few weeks left to find someone at least as talented as Nick, or lose the chance at the movie theme song they are supposed to record. Keyboard player Jax Campbell steps up and takes one for the band by offering to contact the one woman from his past that he has never completely forgotten…Natalie Thorton, Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The history between these two is hot in the extreme, and they parted on less than amicable terms, so Jax isn’t sure how this will play out. But he has to try, because if anyone can find a singer for them, it will be Nat. Natalie has never forgotten Jax, and despite the past, she agrees to help him, by issuing a challenge…for every suitable candidate she proposes, Jax will provide her with an orgasm. Nat convinces herself that it is only sex, and sex with Jax was the best and most exciting she ever had. As for Jax, Nat is the one he never quite forgot, and he remembers all the passion of their past. But these two forgot to tell their hearts to stay uninvolved, and that is when it gets hot. Can Nat find that elusive someone that would be the perfect singer for Synergy, without falling in love with Jax? Will Jax discover his true feelings for Nat before he loses her yet again? Can these two learn that while the sex is fantastic, adding love to the mix makes it even better?

It has been an enlightening and entertaining journey in a search for Nick Blackthorne’s replacement, a task that quickly becomes nearly impossible. With this book, I enjoyed the rock star antics of Jax Campbell, as he comes to realize that there is more to life than just playing around, and Natalie learns that being serious all the time isn’t for her at all.

Jaxon ‘Jax’ Campbell is the epitome of the rock star bad boy. Handsome and sexy, he has literally slept his way around the world. He thinks love is overrated and not in his plans, but then he sees Natalie again, and suddenly he is thinking of things he never knew he wanted. When Nat challenges him, he accepts her terms, but plans to get his own way too. I liked watching as Jax finally grew up and discovered what was important in his life, and how far he would go to get it. He has to face the real possibility that he has lost the one good thing in his life, Natalie’s love, in order to finally open his heart to all love offers.

Natalie ‘Boxhead’ Thorton is smart, funny and very determined not to lose her head, or her heart, to Jax Campbell again. She comes up with her challenge as a way to show Jax he has no hold over her heart, and she thinks she can forget the past and just use him for some outstanding sex, then walk away. I liked Natalie, with her serious persona and her naughty inner vixen. I like that she was adventurous and able to match Jax at every turn.

Watching these two is like watching a classic romantic comedy; every time you think you know what is coming, one of these two people throws a curve and off they go on another adventure in sensuality. I especially liked the scene in Natalie’s office, featuring the Federal Minister for the Arts and Culture, Natalie, and a naked Jax under the desk. Very hot and totally hilarious at the same time. There are many such scenes, and many unique places for Nat and Jax to visit and enjoy. The big question…do they find the replacement that this whole adventure was set up to find? No spoilers from this reader, this is one that has to be experienced to be appreciated. This is best read with the AC on high cool, and plenty of iced drinks to be had. Oh, and check out Jax’s tattoo, too.

Q&A with Vanna Tessier

Tell us about Shooting Picasso.

A promising young journalist must struggle confronting ruthless criminals who try to take advantage of the general panic. She defies the lawless bullies who would like to trap her. She fights hard to unmask the culprits. In the life-and-death battle, the heroine has to find the strength and stamina she needs to unearth the truth and change her life.

In 5 words or less:
Your book

Shooting Picasso describes 9/11 survivors coping in New York.

Your heroine

Journalist Mara discovers life-changing links to the past.

Your hero

Photo-reporter Brooks finds his camera useful.

You as an author

I was struck and deeply touched by 9/11.

Let’s say your book is a movie – which one does it most closely resemble?

Wish Shooting Picasso would be a movie! It would be similar to Flight 93, at least in part.

The subject was very difficult and emotionally draining. This kind of book would make a unique and harrowing movie.

What real-life actors are playing the roles?

Demi Moore might be a fine, inquisitive Mara and Johnny Depp would work well as Brooks, the photo-reporter always-ready-to-snap the most revealing pictures.

Now this movie needs a soundtrack – what songs/tracks best fit your book?

Celine Dion singing My Heart will Go On from the soundtrack of the Titanic might be fitting for this 9/11 movie.

Your characters end up in a world where everyone’s a fashionista – how do they dress and what are they wearing?

The characters wear blue jeans, T-shirts and informal clothes.

What’s their favorite food?

Their taste is simple at the scene of so much destruction. When they find an open restaurant, they gobble down hamburgers and French fries and gulp down Coke, or coffee.

As writers, we are bombarded with ideas every minute of every day. What’s the idea behind this book, and how did it come about?

These performance risks also possess the capability to restrain the overall career possibilities of the person. commander cialis deeprootsmag.org cialis online price After all, teaching is a career that needs devotion and dedication, prior and after being one.
The terrible tragedy of 9/11 caused a lot of grief in the U. S. and it was shared around the world. These man-caused deaths and devastation struck and moved me to tears. When I visited New York, I found out how beautiful and strong this city is. Fantastic how the City and its citizens withstood all the destruction! New Yorkers took it in stride and rebuilt their lives.

In my book, I wrote about how horrible it would be to be taken hostage in one of the planes that hit the North or the South Towers. Could fiction do justice to reality? It would be nice if fiction could change what happened, but it doesn’t and all we can do is talk about the tragedy and remember the World Trade Center and the 3,000 victims. The reverberations of all the deaths and losses will go on.

Tell us a bit about you, and something we don’t know/wouldn’t expect about you.

I always like to discover new ideas and hope to find out what I didn’t know anything about. Knowledge is like power and is something we can’t do without.

What’s your favorite moment of the day, and why?

My favorite moment of the day is in the early morning when I see Harry, my Siamese cat’s big blue eyes looking at me expectantly. He purrs happily when I offer him his dish full of kibble.

What’s your biggest indulgence?

Choco-mania is my main indulgence, especially after a day spent writing. I know I’m addicted to dark chocolate, orange creamsicles and doughnuts just out of the Doughnuts Mill.

Biggest peeve?

My biggest peeve is someone who cuts in front of me in the grocery line, particularly when I’m holding a heavy basket to unload by the cashier.

What unique factor do you think you bring to the book/story market?

The unique factor I bring to the book market is based on different life experiences. The search for the truth is essential and may lead to amazing discoveries.

Best advice you’ve received, and that you’d want others to know?

A hard-to follow advice I have received is to surprise your readers who deserve to be treated only to the best. You have to write, write, write.

Beneath the emerald waves, churn deception, corruption, and murder…

Forensic accountant Drew Arnoud could be on vacation. Instead, he’s investigating misappropriation of BP’s oil spill settlement funds in the beachside town of Destin, Florida. Having his kayak tipped by head hunting specialist Bree Finley could be a coincidence, or could she be involved? Either way he’s keeping her close, maybe too close. In his search to reveal the truth, he finds his life and his heart in jeopardy.

Bree Finley has been betrayed before by her ex-husband, but is it possible he’s involved her and their company in criminal activities and fraud? Who can she trust? She must decide, but the wrong decision may prove deadly.

In all, this is a look at the darker side of paradise; crowds, cruise boats full of drunks, and clueless objectionable local law enforcement. There’s also the open waters of the gulf; light and beauty and sailboats and yet, still that dark side, giving it all a rather ‘real’ quality.

The setting cleverly parallels the story – with the harsh reality of having to solve a crime (Suicide? Murder? Theft?) smacking headlong against the two people meeting, and realizing, possibly…the possibilities.

Our heroine in Destined for Deception, Bree Finley, has a boring day job, and yearns for the chance to speed across waves, and enjoy the beauty of the naturall world. Forensic Accountant Drew isn’t there for the paradise part at all, but to research a potential crime and is only frustrated by the sheriff, and a complex array of evidence.

The mystery is both interesting and a bit complex, as Drew tries to figure out who is involved, either in murder or the misappropriation of funds – if it is several people or one, and if…somehow…even distantly…Bree’s company might be involved. The romance part is much more promising, right from the start.

Destined for Deception has it all – sharks and sunshine, hope and fun, obvious chemistry! Will make a great beach-read!

Perhaps there’s something more to Whiterock than dusty streets, shabby buildings, and discouraged residents, because everything changes when Gus and Sally find each other. But how could that possibly make the decrepit bandshell look new, put the antlers back on the poor, abused bronze elk?

They say opposites attract, but will the the initial burst of lust and intrigue be enough to keep Gus and Sally interested in each other in the longterm?

The chemistry between Gus and Sally is intense. They have such contradictory personalities that at first I was slightly skeptical about the possibility of them becoming anything other than friends, but Ms. Glad allows both characters ample time to get to know one another. It was even more interesting to see how the science fiction elements of the plot were woven into the scenes that showcase Sally and Gus’ many differences.

I had a hard time determining exactly when this story was supposed to be set. Whiterock is a charming community that seems to exist in a world whose technology, fashions, and social norms are 20 or 30 years behind what’s happening in the urban environment where Gus lives. It was never quite clear to me if this was a hint about the strange things that sometimes happen in Whiterock or if this tale was set a few decades further into the past than I originally assumed.

Ms. Glad has a smooth writing style that kept me glued to the page way past my bedtime. She has a unique way of sketching out a setting or character by focusing on details that I wouldn’t normally think of when describing them to other people: the sometimes lumpy texture of homemade mashed potatoes or the funny ways people move when their shoes and clothing are soaking wet. This was my first introduction to her work. If it’s any indication of her talent, I can’t wait to hunt down the rest of her books!

Improbable Solution is a seamless blend of science fiction and romance that I’d recommend equally to fans of either genre.

Will Sam follow Ethan only to find the grave?

And who will achieve glory in this Civil War tale?

Is going to battle an effective way to prove that you should be treated like an adult now? Ethan thinks so, but Sam isn’t so sure.

Sam is an insightful co-narrator whose canine perspective made me smile. He doesn’t always see the world the same way us humans do, so it was fascinating to compare his point of view to what I imagine I’d think about the same scenarios. It’s difficult for me to discuss this further without giving away spoilers, but definitely check out the author’s postscript.

The pacing was a little slow in the beginning as Sam describes their homestead and Ethan mulls over his desire to become a soldier. The introduction would have been ideal for a novella twice this length. With that being said, once the pacing picked up I couldn’t stop reading until I knew how it ended.

Ms. Whitehall has a smooth writing style that blends in well with the themes and time period of this particular tale. She knew just when to add in enough details to create vivid pictures in my mind of what was going on without slowing down the plot or distracting me from Ethan’s adventures. This was my first introduction to her work, and I’m looking forward to reading more from her soon!

It took me a while to figure out the best age recommendation for this story. Including the perspective of his dog made it feel like it was written for an audience much younger than seventeen. The protagonist was also described in a manner that I’d expect from someone several years younger than him. He was excited for battle and didn’t seem at all concerned with the danger of it. The age I ended up choosing is firm due to violent content, but I’d heartily recommend this tale to older teens and adults as well.

Journey to Glory was an unforgettable ride. This is an especially good choice for anyone who is intrigued by what it was like for the teenagers who fought in the Civil War.

A good read, though I found myself laughing most of the time. It was hard to get over the fact that the dwarves are in a BDSM club. Since it’s a fairy tale, that made this a fun and kind of silly read. It’s a short read and it looks to be a stand alone. The end wasn’t left hanging–for the most part. Next time he’ll exercise some self-control and turn away from the too-hot-for-words spectacle, but just this once he’s determined to let himself enjoy the show. Jackson might have been offended by his neighbor’s voyeuristic evening had Jackson not taken advantage of the delicious show he unwittingly inspired. Unwilling to let the opportunity to turn a smoldering fantasy into a scorching-hot sex life, Jackson invites Kyle over for a drink and is pleasantly surprised to find Kyle is smart, sexy and someone Jackson wants to get to know-in bed and out.

It all started with a howling kitty. When Kyle takes a casual glance outside to determine the source of the ruckus keeping him from blessed sleep, everything is knocked off kilter in a most spectacular way. Enter the sexy, mysterious neighbor who just happens to be stripping in front his open window. The appearance of Jackson’s sleek body only ups the ante. But will watching be enough to satisfy Kyle’s curiosity?

I wasn’t sure I was going to like Kyle much at first. The idea that he’d spy on his neighbor changing and use it as an opportunity to gain satisfaction from it kind of put me off in the beginning. I was pleasantly surprised that I found it sexy and enticing more than I found it weird in the end. It also helped that Kyle was a touch appalled with himself at first, too, I think. However, I ended up really liking him and the easy relationship he and Jackson eventually fell into.

Jackson, on the other hand, I liked from the very beginning. Stuck in a job he doesn’t exactly hate, he’s still looking for something more, that next big break. He’s a hard worker and a bit more serious than Kyle comes off. I also think we get to know him a bit better than we do Kyle, making him a little more well-rounded. He and Kyle are perfect balances for each other, enough to steady the other but not so much so that the fun dies either.

There is a lot to love about A Friendly Neighbor, the cat Maxwell most of all. He’s a character and a half in himself, but aren’t most cats? Also, the natural banter between Jackson and Kyle makes for easy reading and enjoyable dialogue. Probably the most refreshing thing about this story is that while both men are eager to prove their physical attraction to the other, they both remain determined to take it slowly and wait to consummate the relationship only when they both feel it’s the right time. It’s nice to see that not every man in a romance novel is ready to throw down fourteen minutes into the relationship. A Friendly Neighbor is an enjoyable, light-hearted read that is both humorous and sexy. I would love another glimpse into the world of these two and see how they’re fairing in the future.

Even if it means risking everything, including each other.

I really did love this one! Aline Hunter takes things to the next level with Alpha Mine, the fourth book in her outstanding Alpha and Omega Series. I am completely hooked on this series, even more so now with some of the intriguing directions the author took in this book.

This is not a stand alone book, but rather, it is a continuation of several long time arcs while beginning some new ones as well. All the while Hunter continues spinning an intricate web of sub-plots involving important characters in the series. The future storylines will feature an outstanding cast of characters, epic love affairs, and very nasty villains. The Shepherds are still in the picture, along with a new contender as more powerful enemies are brought to light.

This book further explores Trey and Sadie’s relationship. Trey, our alpha bad ass shifter, has to realize that Sadie, who is pretty darn bad ass herself, can take care of business. Ava and Diskant are still in the thick of things. Some big things happen in the situation with Nathan and Leigh, while the story takes an even more stunning turn with Aldon Frost. Let me just say that this book will reveal secrets that are integral to the series arc. So this one is definitely not to be missed!

As for the writing style, it was excellent. It flowed easily, with a fast pace and sub-plots that were seamless. Now for the juicy bits. As expected, Trey and Sadie find time to indulge in lots of scorching hot sex. It is graphically detailed with Trey remaining as possessive and bad ass as ever, dirty talker and all that.

So I guess it is obvious how much I truly enjoyed this book. I liked the various sub-plots and how all my favorite characters are still involved in everything. I really can’t wait to see what’s next.

In “All She Can Be,” Vallon Drake has been recruited by the U.S. government to use her magical abilities to prevent other people with similar powers from suddenly changing the landscape. One errant thought can create a mountain where there used to be a meadow in this universe, and the consequences of making these kinds of changes can be quite serious. Smooth writing and intricate world-building made this tale stick out immediately to me. I was especially intrigued by how quickly the glaring problems of living in a society where a small percentage of people have these abilities was sketched out before the plot picked up speed.

There were several instances in which I encountered stories that contained a few too many characters for their length. “An Incursion of Mice” is a good example of this tendency. Wall T is a pompous cat who attempts to rally the rest of his pride to figure out who has been eating their food. He’s the most cat-like narrator I’ve never met, but I had trouble keeping track of all of the other felines who he’s graciously decided to allow his human servants to keep.

I don’t normally recommend reading anthologies out of order, but “Containing Patient Zero” has such a creative and engaging premise that I highly recommend skipping ahead and checking it out first. When Dr. Joseph Nelson is summoned to figure out what happened with an execution that has gone terrible wrong, the evidence he uncovers points to a chilling conclusion. It’s difficult to discuss the details of this story without giving away spoilers, but it kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I never wanted it to end and hope there is a sequel in the works for it!

Just about every entry in this collection works incredibly well as a stand-alone tale. I wasn’t familiar with any of the detectives who have also been featured in other books, but I was quickly able to leap into their worlds. This isn’t always an easy feat to pull off, so I was impressed to see it happen over and over again.

Fiction River: Fantastic Detectives is a great choice for anyone who loves it when genres are swirled together. It’s nominally more heavily influenced by mystery conventions and tropes, but the science fiction and fantasy elements in it are almost as strong.

There are dozens of people who would have been happy to do the deed, including members of Jubal’s own family. As Sheriff Scott Tucker and his deputy Trenton Calder look into the circumstances surrounding Jubal’s demise, it begins to look like the prime suspect may be someone very dear to the widow Beckie MacKenzie, the beloved music teacher and mentor of Alafair’s daughter Ruth. Ruth fears that the secrets exposed by the investigation are going to cause more damage to her friend’s life than the tornado. In the summer of 1916 a large twister carves a path of destruction into the rural town of Boynton, Oklahoma. A cast of characters, each threatened by the odious Jubal Beldon in his or her own way, finds themselves in the middle of a murder investigation. A book in the Alafair Tucker mystery series, the tale winds around on itself and lays out one or two particular surprises at the end.

For someone who has not read any of the series beforehand, it didn’t take me long to figure out what was happening. The unique way the author used to show many points of view was very effective in a murder mystery and really showed what times were like back in 1916. The language, the mannerisms of the local people…everything, even including some pretty sharp prejudices.

At the onset of the book, it did take me awhile to figure out where the story was leading. You got to meet a host of people and learned quickly what an unpleasant person Jubal Beldon was. He lied, created rumors where there was nothing to see and made a host of people’s lives miserable. When a twister hit the town and he was found dead, there were many who were glad to see him not residing on the planet any longer. But who might have hated or feared him enough to actually have killed him?

An investigation is formed and one by one suspects have their secrets laid bare. The twist at the end is a good one, but the conclusion was fairly uneventful. The one issue I had with the book was the issue of homosexuality and the abject hatred people had for anyone perceived as gay in those times. I felt the author was making a point about motivational factors as regards to murder, but at times it frankly made me uncomfortable. The misery of the accused characters and repercussions of being found out were horrendous. The family issues of being disowned were also very emotionally infused. I would indeed be curious as to the author’s views on the subject and why she chose to show that particular part of history in her work.

For the most part, I enjoyed the story. It was like coming home to visit a group of relatives I had never met in a small town I had never been to. I would read more books by the author and congratulate her on a powerful use of many different POV throughout the book.

If you enjoy down home country cooking with a side of mystery, then you must check out the Alafair Tucker series.
