Two sexy men and a woman who’s seen a vision of something that’s about to happen around Halloween. An intriguing combination that sets the stage for this short, sexy read.

Nat’s a likable heroine who won me over during a conversation with her brother who doesn’t seem to understand who she is, and who she needs to be. The dialogue is very natural sounding throughout the story, and the pacing moves along at a clip.

The two main things that kept me reading were, would Nat stay with her two guys, and what was the bad thing that was going to happen at Halloween. The author did a great job balancing out the mystery and the romantic/erotic element of this story.

So if an erotic ménage story with a dose of paranormal suspense is your cup of tea, this will probably be a good pick for you.

Reversing the Aging Process
From Adult Romance to Adventurous Young Adult
A miracle skin cream? A new form of Botox? Plastic surgery?

Nope.

I reversed the aging process in my writing by going from romantic suspense to young adult. My outlook is younger, fresher, and less permanent—in other words the relationship doesn’t end in marriage.

But I learned so much by writing adult romance first. To begin with, the reference materials, craft classes and organizations are more plentiful writing adult romance. I honed much of my current writing style taking classes given by adult writing organizations such as Romance Writers of America.

Some specific examples of things I learned in adult romance that make my work strong for YA:

– In media res – start in the middle of the action. This is important in romance, but to catch the attention of a multi-electronic-gadgeted teen you have to hook them at the very beginning. Or with the back cover blurb. Or just the cover.

– Emotional depth – nothing is more emotionally intense than a romance. Add teenage angst to the mix—love, friendships, their best friend’s love, making the team, or a mean clique—and you have the makings for some gut-wrenching emotions.

– Hooks – I started writing romantic suspense so the hooks had to be good. Getting a teen to stay with a book instead of a video game or YouTube is harder. It doesn’t mean a dead body or a fired gun type of hook, but emotional hooks. Will her parents ground her, will her BFF betray her to the mean girl, or will she get a date for Saturday night?

These are just some of the things I learned in the adult romance world. Whether you write adult or YA, suspense or small town fiction, a well-crafted story is the best way to make it on the bestseller lists.

What are some of your favorite hooks or emotional problems in young adult fiction? What do you think we need to see more of?

Thank you so much for hosting me today!

The Greatest Myth Ever Dispelled …

Italy. A tough master of novices, Father Dante encounters the bold young priest Antonio who challenges his identity and accuses him of being THE Saint Nicholas. But despite the Father faking his death, a determined Antonio discovers a rather alive Dante arrayed in kilt and armor.

In return for Antonio’s silence—and to protect the town from attracting all manner of darkness—Dante agrees to tell his life story. Without explanation, Dante orders Antonio to meet him at night in the abandoned Cathedral, the site of a former battle that the Church has kept secret for a generation.

From the Dark Ages’ when Poet-Sorcerers ruled kings, to the Holy Land when a new civilization was rising, to Revolutionary France where love is lost and gained, Father Dante pursues the one responsible for both his master and his mother’s deaths:

Black Peter, his brother.

This book begins with Antonio, a young novice, curious about Father Dante– there’s a lot of mysterious things about him. Antonio begins to suspect that Father Dante is actually the legendary Saint Nicholas and confronts him about it. And thus sets the framework for this book: Father Dante “dies” and, to stop Antonio from talking, agrees to tell his life story to the young priest. The rest of the book is told from Nicholas’ POV, with an occasional comment from Antonio to show us where the two are physically during the book.

This is a very ambitious book, spanning centuries and different historical eras. This is both the book’s strength and its weakness. There are so many things going on and is a bit disjointed that it is sometimes hard to follow.

It is worth pushing through, though, because the characterization is wonderfully done, and the book is definitely filled with action. It is not a lighthearted book, but is a dark look at an interesting figure. The author has obviously done his research into not only St. Nicholas, but also into the history of the times.

Faye Longchamp doesn’t believe in ghosts, but she’s an archaeologist—dead people are her life. Yet while working in Rosebower, a rural New York town founded by Spiritualists, Faye is surrounded by people who talk to the dead on a regular basis. When influential Spiritualist Tilda Armistead invites Faye and her daughter to commune with the dead, Faye can’t say no. She’s just too curious.

Then an hour after her crystal ball shows Faye things no rational mind can explain, Tilda is dead. The evidence says that someone trapped Tilda in a small room, nailing its one door shut before setting her house afire. There is no possible way for her to have escaped the blaze, let alone drive for miles before finding Faye and dying in her arms. Yet Tilda did. How? And why?

It seems Rosebower is full of people who had reason to kill Tilda. Tilda’s estranged daughter is the heir to the Armistead fortune. That daughter’s husband is a stage magician with a long history of making things vanish.

Faye Longchamp and her daughter Amande have landed an archeologist job in Rosebower, a rural New York town founded by Spiritualists. When town matron Tilde Armistead invites Faye and Amande to a séance and turns up dead, Faye thinks there might be more at work in this sleepy little town than first meets the eye.

The town is a quaint little place, and as Faye and Amande wade in further, more hidden clues come to light. Here, normal is relative. Who is this boy, Ennis who takes care of root doctor Sister Mama? Are his tinctures safe? Tilde’s estranged daughter Dara and her shifty eyed husband Willow run their own Spiritualist show just outside the town limits. What do they have to gain from her untimely death? A wealthy developer has his sights set on the land Tilde’s sister Myrna has inherited and now her health is strangely declining. Is he involved? What of Toni the Astonisher who has landed in Rosebower set on writing an expose on the secrets of this soon to be upended little hamlet. One thing is for sure. Rosebower won’t be the same.

The story enveloped me at the onset. Never having read a Faye Longchamp series mystery before, it took me a moment to sync with the characters, but not long. Faye and Amande are likeable, practical people and I loved following the story as they explored old junk at the town museum and with the occasional successful conquest. The story really got going as Faye and Amande joined Tilde for a séance and she ends up dead, a victim from complications from arson. As the town reals from the horrific event, other things are set in motion that will soon collide, changing the innocence of Rosebower forever.

Rosebower reminded me very much of Lily Dale, another Spiritualist community where if you look down the street, you will see a shingle on nearly every house depicting what specific talent the psychic holds. The politics, bickering and all the things you would see in any small town can be found within the pages of Rituals, with the added flavor of the Spiritualist movement. Normal here would be crazy anywhere else, but in a town where hoodoo curses and crystal ball reading are as common as four o’clock tea, Faye and Amande have their work cut out for them. The museum owner is convinced that within his dusty walls hides the secret to alien civilizations. Faye enlists the assistance of her husband Joe, who is imbibed with a Creek heritage and special observational skills of his own. His arrival is timely as the destructive forces walking the streets of this small town converge with murder on the agenda.

The plot in this story is woven together like a tapestry. The interjection of Toni the Astonisher’s notes between the events was a useful tool and helped me as a reader get behind some of the illusion that marks the trade. This book was an enjoyable read and I want to find out more about the island life that Faye shares with Joe and how Amande came to be adopted by them. Great voice and a compelling mystery! I wouldn’t hesitate to read anything else by this talented author.

If you want a series where you will learn something new as you read, then this one is for you!

Alice comes across as a woman who knows what she wants and when she meets Mark (who she thinks in a male car owner in distress) nothing’s quite the same which made me what to read more.

Although this is a novella, I felt Ms. Clements did a great job fleshing out these two characters. While some of their background is told in narration, I didn’t feel like I was shortchanged in any way.

Dr. Dora Adler’s life has been in disarray since the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, but when she gets bitten by one of the undead, her whole world is turned upside down. Held captive in a secret underground lab, the tall, muscular hunk in the next cell is her only hope for salvation. Unfortunately, he claims to be a werewolf. Yeah, and she’s supposedly a witch.

Dirk Gunderson is an alpha Arbor pack werewolf. Captured and collared, he’s sold to the zombie lab in hopes his blood serum can create a vaccine. He needs to escape, but not without the hot little brunette witch.

In the midst of enemy werewolves and the hordes of undead, Dirk and Dora’s sexual tension ignites a blaze hotter than the desert highway. Along their journey, they battle the inevitable: a werewolf must never take a witch as a mate.

A blow to the head is what it takes…

That could be the beginning of many scenarios. Unfortunately, for Dr. Dora Adler, it pertains to zombies. Human wars of the past paled in comparison to the devastation caused by the Z-phage infection as it swept across the globe. When combined with natural disasters, crashing stock markets, and numerous other catastrophes, it promotes the perfect scenario for total annihilation of the human race. Being a medical provider, Dora is stuck right in the middle of things. Every patient that comes through the door is potentially infected and poses a risk to the few humans left. Not only does she have to treat these patients, but she also has to single out the ones already compromised and then watch as they are carted off to quarantine. Thankfully, those she holds dearest remain safe, but for how long?

If the possibility of becoming a zombie weren’t bad enough, she has a family curse hanging over her head. One way or another, her number is up; number 27, that is. Every female in her family for several generations had died at the age of 27. Dora has no idea why; so it made it somewhat difficult to prepare or protect herself from her impending fate. As luck would have it, her 27th birthday comes with a new twist. Not only is she bitten and rushed off to a facility to await turning into a zombie and death by a bullet to the head, she discovers that she’s immune to Z-phage.

Now that might sound like a good thing—if one doesn’t relish the idea of becoming a cannibal and eating loved ones and close friends—just imagine becoming a science experiment in a world desperate to find a cure to a virus that depletes human numbers by staggering amounts every day. Soon, there won’t be anyone left. Just because Dora is immune to zombie bites, doesn’t mean being ripped to shreds in a feeding frenzy doesn’t pose a threat. She’s immune, not magic, right? Dora, honey, you better get ready for a little more weird in your life. Seems you’re not completely human, after all, and zombies aren’t the only monsters to go bump in the night.

Dirk is your typical badass, playboy, alpha-male werewolf. He likes fast bikes, fast women, and uncluttered relationships, except when it comes to his killer pooch, Fang, a teacup Chihuahua who’s managed to turn this big bad wolf into a dotting “mommy”. While Dirk certainly feels the responsibility of his alpha status and knows he needs to choose a mate soon, he’s got bigger and better things to attend to, like tracking down the hunter who almost took his sister’s life.

Catching Z-phage wasn’t a concern for him; he’s immune to the virus. In fact, zombies didn’t even seem to notice his presence. Apparently, werewolves and other shifters didn’t smell like food. Unfortunately, the invulnerability didn’t extend all of his wolf family. Lower wolves—betas and omegas—were unable to shift except during a full moon, leaving them susceptible to zombie attacks. The sheer number of zombies looking for human meat had already decimated many wolf packs. If something wasn’t done to stop Z-phage, there wouldn’t be a world left for any of them, human or shifter.

I’ve got to say I’m not a fan of zombies. I don’t know why, but they creep me out. I can’t even watch zombie movies without getting the heebie-jeebies. Why I grabbed this story is beyond me, but I’m glad I did. I expect my attraction to werewolves and other paranormal beasties overrode my anxiety about flesh-eating ghoulies. Ms. Gordon certainly had my unease in high gear when it came to her thorough description of a world riddled with this highly contagious virus that turns just about everyone into mindless cannibals, but her twist on things really sparked my attention and kept me turning the pages—despite being scared of the dark for a few days.

The relationship between Dirk and Dora steadily grows as they develop companionship, trust, and inevitably love with one another. Despite the chaos around them and the rules governing both their kind regarding mingling of the species, they can’t stop destiny. Fight it as they may, when they finally come together, it’s explosive and a major turning point, even if they aren’t quite ready to admit it to themselves. Some of the dialog seemed a bit cheesy at times, but I envisioned a world where anything to laugh about was likely cherished and exploited to the fullest.

This book certainly has a lot of plot twists and excitement to keep you entertained. I like how the author adds a new take on things with shifters and magic. I mean, how many ways can you write about zombies without everything sounding the same? Ms. Gordon certainly presents a stimulating change from a perspective I hadn’t considered before. There were some similarities to several different movie plots that seemed a bit “borrowed”, but the author still manages to give it her own voice, making the overall book an enjoyable—if not anxiety provoking—read. There were a few remaining loose ends so I’m hoping there will be more tales to come.

Zombies, werewolves, and witches oh my. This certainly ain’t Kansas and I think Dora’s going to need more than a pair of ruby slippers to save the day. With her alpha-mate at her side and newfound skills in “witchmacallit”, she just might be able to turn the tide and save the human race, one person at a time. If animated corpses who love to gorge on human flesh sparks your fancy, and sexy, Harley-riding wolf shifters give you thrills, then you’ll probably enjoy Ms. Eva Gordon’s Apocalyptic Moon. It’s a hair-raising, moon-howling adventure that kept me eagerly turning the pages to see what happened next—as well as checking my closet for any hidden ghoulies wishing to make a meal out of me. I’ll be sleeping with a bat next to my bed for many nights to come. Thank you, Ms. Gordon, for penning a story that will likely stay with me for a while to come.

Out on the hunt for the fairer sex, cougar shifter Grady doesn’t expect to run across his other prey. As he follows Caleb on a mad dash through Anchorage’s dark streets, Grady ends up on the receiving end of a metal pipe to the head. When a police cruiser arrives on the scene, Caleb takes off, leaving Grady in the dirt.

As a cop, Sage’s job is to protect and serve. But she doesn’t expect to be kissed senseless by the sexy man she’s trying to help. She can’t resist his charm—or his touch on her body—and agrees to see him again.
A relationship started on passion changes quickly when tragedy slams into Sage’s life. But with Grady by her side, Sage finds the one thing she’s been missing.

Marisa Chenery has proven herself time and time again to be one of the reigning members of the fictional “Shifters Romance Writer’s Scribe” with her passionate and intriguing novellas of shifter/human matings. Ms. Chenery continues to impress with her engaging storytelling of shifter/human adventures as she spins a succulent tale that will make even the coldest heart this winter melt into a puddle.

I have often wondered if perhaps I might have a small fuzzy “critter” locked-up inside of me at times the way I love to read shifter/romance books and Marisa Chenery’s books are among my all-time favorites. After reading Fated to a Cougar I would have to say that this novella will definitely be added to that favorite book list of mine.

This is the fourth book in the “Cougar Surrender” series and while it can be read as a stand alone (which in my case was read out of order and I never got lost), it is still best to read this series in order to enjoy every character-plot to it’s fullest.

Cougar-shifter and notorious bachelor “Grady” has been assigned the task of chasing down villain-Caleb who has tried to kill his uncle (mentioned in previous books). The book starts off with a “bang” literally as we find our hero knocked-out with a pipe to the head while chasing down Caleb. Well as we know cougar-shifters heal fast but try to explain that to the sexy human cop Sage who finds Grady on the side of the road injured. Sage insist on getting medical treatment for Grady but Grady knows that is out of the question and since Sage is one lovely lady, Grady does the first thing that pops into his mind, he kisses Sage silly to distract her from calling that ambulance. Since the kiss flew-off the charts on the Richter-scale, Grady knows he has to see the lovely cop again and the stunned Sage agrees to a date.

Sage is used to seeing odd things on her job but finding a hunk like Grady injured on the side of the road tops her unusual pile when she has the kiss of a lifetime. She agrees to see Grady again but panics later after thinking about it. She has worked hard to be a cop and is still studying hard to advance in her field. She does not think she can afford a relationship right now. None-the-less she agrees to a date only to have a horrible family tragedy strike during this date. The relationship jumps full-speed ahead as Sage finds she needs to lean-on Grady to get through the dark-days in her life.

I love the character development in this story. Not only do we have an unlikely “mixed-species” couple finding each other but we in fact find two different and unique heroes in this saga. The eroticism is hot and the story-line is very intriguing. The relationship progressed rather quickly but as with short-stories that has to be the case to get me into the book’s focus.

Though I was a bit surprised at the speed at which our heroine switches from lack of trust to trust, I have to admit that the story was still very sweet, sad and exciting all rolled up into a nice literary package. I felt Sage’s lonesomeness as well as her desire for family strongly in this story and we find Grady’s sweet, caring nature to be a refreshing change for a shifter who usually is more muscle than heart in some shifter-tales. There were a few surprises in this story and I loved the interactions with Grady’s family.

As I stated at the beginning of this review, I read this book out of series but had no trouble what-so-ever latching on to the story-line and characters. In fact reading Fated to a Cougar made me anxious to back-track to the previous stories. I found myself looking forward to reading every book thus far written.

So are you looking for the purr-fect tale to cuddle up with? Well “meow” out loud because Ms. Chenery’s Fated to a Cougar  might just be right up your alley.

Clockwork Romance is a steampunk m/m set in Victorian London. The writing is a mixture of past and present and the characters, Arthur and Lord Percival are full of manners, propriety and there’s plenty of hidden undercurrents in their dialogue.

Lord Percival becomes acquainted with watchmaker Arthur as he suspects he’d been stealing from his uncle and is determined to get to the bottom of the situation. Arthur’s thoughts soon turn from creating watches to dreaming of Lord Percival.

I enjoyed the world Ms Dragen created for her story. It’s shadowy and real yet still fantastical. Background of CONTROL by Charlotte Stein

1_13 control book coverMy book Control came about because I wanted to write a beta hero. I really wanted to write one, but I was afraid. I thought no one would want to read it. People don’t like beta heroes! They want strong, manly, macho alphas. And so the other hero in Control was born.

It just seemed like the perfect idea. I could have my beta hero, Gabe. But playing off against him would be the much more aggressive and dominant Andy. Suddenly, everything fell into place. The scenes I’d been struggling with became clearer. The conflict sharpened and turned into something new – now my heroine didn’t just have to work through the angsty ins and outs of her relationship with Gabriel.
She had to also decide between two men…and two sides of herself. One side wants control. The other wants to give it up. A simple conceit I think, but one that really helped my characters and my heroine in particular come to life.

Other elements of the book emerged because of various things. There’s a street in York with all of these quaint little houses on it, but slap bang in the middle is a sex shop. That sex shop is the reason I set the book where I did, and why I gave my heroine a naughty book store.

Then there are the erotic books my heroine teases the hero with. None of the titles are real, but the books themselves represent erotica that has meant a lot to me. Stories that shaped my love of the genre and helped me become a writer of it. They are: Dreamers In Time by Sarah Copeland, Crash Course by Juliet Hastings, The Top of Her Game by Emma Holly, The Stranger by Portia Da Costa and Menage by Emma Holly. All of them are Black Lace titles, because Black Lace was so important to me as a young woman drowning in erotic books mostly written by men.

They were a revelation – one I’ve given to Gabe in the story.

What could be simpler for a PI and his gal than attending a high-fashion weekend in the country to keep a close eye on the erratic host that someone wants dead?

Relationships levitra online india get under strain and eventually breakup. According to studies, nearly cute-n-tiny.com generic levitra online 10 to 20 percent men are using ED drugs unnecessarily. However, it is always considered to assist with nutrition in case of http://cute-n-tiny.com/tag/horse/page/2/ ordine cialis on line advanced cancer patients. Sounds like a simple assignment. Randy and Bertha go undercover for a high class weekend in the country, all expenses paid. All they have to do is pretend to be somebody else while keeping a close eye on their host, Archibald Anthony, the famous Serial Painter, and mingle with the other guests, exchanging pleasantries. Their job? To keep Anthony alive until the long weekend is over and sort through the suspects when the bodies start falling.

Of course the guests include some of the top rungs of the social ladder: vampires, elves, hobgoblins, goblins, trolls, gremlins, plus the addition of the varied staff members loose on the estate. Strangely enough, almost everyone seems to have their own private agenda.

Randolf C. Aloysius and his assistant, Bertha Wildwater, are hired for what is supposed to be a simple undercover assignment. They are hired to ensure that Archibald Anthony, the famous serial painter, stays alive throughout the weekend. The letter Randy receives giving him this assignment says, “You may be wondering why we have hired you. Artists of this stature are famous for being fickle and having enemies, and Anthony is a member of the Irrationist School of Modernistic Interpretation. They are feuding with at least two other groups, the Realistic Methodists for Landscapeture and Image Depiction, and the Anarchistic Academy of Delineation and Portraiture.”

And so the fun begins. This is an exciting, fast-paced novel with a bevy of suspects among the weekend guests as well as the varied staff members. Suspects are eliminated when they become victims, and Randy and Bertha have their work cut out for them. I liked both Randy and Bertha and found them to be very believable and real characters. Bertha, a half banshee, definitely knows how to handle herself and thanks to some night classes she also knows a bit of magic. But is it enough to keep ahead of the vampires, gremlins, and other assorted characters?

The setting is shown in humorous and complete detail. Randy and Bertha begin their adventures in Muddy Hogland Town which has “the atmosphere of a Venusian swamp.” It is descriptions such as this which add to the tone of the novel which reads like a crime detective story in the noir tradition. Mysteries abound and it is difficult to tell the villains from the merely greedy and grasping.

Many of the chapters open with a favorite saying from one of Randy’s relatives, and those are both humorous and revealing. Randy may think he is the detective, but he gets a lot of help from Bertha and the two work surprisingly well together. Fans of the fantasy detective story will certainly enjoy this fun and exciting mystery, filled with many quirky and unusual characters.
