She was a dangerous man’s lover…now she’s his dangerous enemy.

YUCATAN DEAD…

For Kate Jones, being on the run from her former lover–the vicious leader of a Mexican drug cartel–was never going to be easy. But with a new identity, a new lover, and a new life in Arizona, she was beginning to believe she’d made it through the worst.

Then, in an act of twisted revenge, Kate’s kidnapped and imprisoned by her deadly enemy, his intention to force her to pay back the money she stole before he kills her.

Fate intervenes and she finds herself working against the cartels deep in the Yucatan with a group of off-the-grid commandos. From peaceful northern Arizona to the steamy jungles of Mexico, Kate Jones must decide for herself if she’ll continue to run…

…or turn and fight the evil that pursues her.

Wow!  My heart is still pounding.  When I started reading this story I didn’t realize that I would be on the edge of my seat during the entire book. I just couldn’t put this book down.

This story is one of a series about a woman named Kate Jones.  From the first page, when she was kidnapped in Arizona, to later on when she managed to escape into the jungle of Yucatan, my heart was racing. This story keeps you torn between stopping for a moment to catch your breath and wanting to know what happened next.

I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I’ll  only  say that this was a exciting, frightening, wonderful, awful story, and I loved every page of it.. Nothing will bring Captain Frey back, but if Martin can help locate the terrorists’ drug lab, perhaps he’ll be able to forgive himself?

Martin, a fourteen-year-old computer geek who lives with his overbearing father, learns some very hard lessons when he allows the school bully to talk him into bringing down the spaceport computer network. Geek Games is an exciting as well as poignant coming of age story. I liked Martin a lot and he is very well defined. He has a hard life even before the novel begins, but in spite of all the hardships, or maybe because of them, Martin develops a strength that enables him to stand up for what is right. He has to learn to live with the consequences of his actions, but he works very hard to stop terrorists and help the enslaved miners.

The setting of the novel is a space station and its surrounding asteroids and while I obviously have never lived in such an environment, I felt as if I were a part of this world. I was especially taken with the descriptions of the Aleyni, the race which is native to the planet on which the space station is situated. Many of the space station personnel feel that they are superior to the Aleyni and refuse to have anything to do with them. But the Aleyni have a very rich culture and they also can offer many goods and benefits to the space station inhabitants. I thought the author really handled the mixing of the cultures with sensitivity and grace.

The plot is fast moving and exciting, chasing terrorists through the asteroids, searching for a drug lab, and mining ore in deep caverns. There is enough adventure to satisfy any reader and the plot twists and turns, providing many surprises. The ending is satisfactory, but it also could be the beginning to another adventure and I really hope that Martin’s story will be continued in future novels.

Science Fiction lovers are sure to enjoy getting to know Martin and the rich world of the Aleyni.

Under the Caribbean Sun, Book 3

The second Antonnis Prinsen sees his old flame, he knows she’s the lifeline to keep him from drowning in his brother’s matrimonial mayhem. It’s been years since they’ve talked, but surely by now she understands that a clean break was best. Instead of making a smooth re-introduction into her life, he finds his path blocked by a giant iguana. And Kristin looking at him as if he’s lower than the reptile.

Kristin Taylor spent her youth tangled up in Antonnis, but then he cut ties and disappeared. Now she leads a full and orderly life—until she finds herself walking down the aisle beside him. Thank goodness, it’s only to see his brother and her friend tie the knot.

Except Antonnis seems intent on picking up where they left off, and she has to admit she still has a weakness for him. Especially when he tempts her with an irresistible offer—one hot night, and this time she gets the chance to leave him cold.

Antonnis Prinsen’s brother had all been bitten by the matrimonial bug, and Antonnis is determined to remain immune. Kristin Taylor has grown up from the impressionable teen Antonnis left behind, but a part of her had never moved on from the hurt inflicted by Antonnis when he’d left without a word. Despite knowing he’d returned, she’d hoped to minimize the pain of exposure to him. Being a bridesmaid for her good friend – and knowing Antonnis would be a groomsman for his brother – she resigned herself to a few very awkward, uncomfortable days. But the heat that flares between them hasn’t dimmed, despite time and distance, and Antonnis isn’t going to let Kristin pretend there’s nothing between them, not when he’s discovering just how deep his feelings for her run.

This is a fun, wonderful summery read. Antonnis is definitely used to being in control and in charge of all around him. Despite his initial vehement statements against wedded bliss, he soon changes his tune when he bumps into Kristin once more. I was a bit surprised he seemed genuinely puzzled to find her so hurt by his past actions. After four summers of flings together, when he stopped communicating with her entirely “to make a clean cut easier for her” it didn’t seem like the most intelligent explanation for his actions, and his puzzlement at his ignoring her multiple attempts at communicating seemed a bit thin. But Antonnis is quite arrogant and while I might be able to chalk it up to “male idiocy” it came across to me as quite unfeeling of him. Kristin I understood much easier. She’s determined not to fall into the same honey-trap of Antonnis’ good looks and charming personality. Privately, I’d have liked her to hold out a little longer – she really had been deeply hurt – but it’s clear from the start her heart still belongs to him so I can’t blame her for succumbing to his passionate kisses and hot embrace.

This book is seriously sizzling. The sex between Kristin and Antonnis is smoking hot and not something to share with sweeter or more traditional readers. I didn’t find any of the scenes offensive or out of control, but they’re very explicit and won’t be to everyone’s tastes. It was fairly clear to me that this is one book in the middle of a series, I’d think two of Antonnis’s brothers would have their own book and I feel two of the secondary characters in this one should certainly either have or be getting their own Happily Ever After. But there was no real need to have read any of the other stories to follow along here, which is something I particularly like. I hate feeling like I’m missing required background simply because I pick a story up in the wrong order. The author is to be commended for me not feeling like I missed a beat here.

I enjoyed reading Kristin and Antonnis get their happily ever after, mingled in with plenty of sexy scenes, repairing of heartbreak and honest communication. While the plot isn’t particularly new, I enjoyed the characters, with a strong cast of important and well fleshed out secondary characters and plenty of scenic, beachy Caribbean holiday fun. Great for a summer read, or one where you wish it was a bright, hot day outside.

Shawn Torien is a handsome, arrogant bassist with the groove rock band Bloodless. At thirty four, he’s seen everything, been everywhere, and all is handed to him on a silver plate—groupies included. His rock star attitude is questioned when the record company’s young webmistress Samantha joins the band to cover their life on the road.

Since she has crushed on Shawn for years, he takes great pleasure in teasing her and pushing her away… until he learns about the woman beneath the surface.

Hot rock stars, fans and a good dose of sexy, what’s not to love?

My Biggest Fan is told in Shawn’s voice. Typical male he thinks of his cock and women, a lot, and we even get a description of him urinating. He keeps people waiting, rushes for no one and does his own thing. That is until he meets the band’s webmistress, Samantha. Then his thoughts turn to the fact that she’s on the road with them for a few days – oh, yeah, you just know how ‘that’s’ going to go!

Samantha already has a crush on Shawn, though I kind of wondered why, he doesn’t seem very likeable for the first portion of the book (he describes womens’ breasts as ‘huge melon’s and happily humps groupies).

But the relationship between Samantha and Shawn does grow (OT: I always prefer lead characters to have names beginning with different first letters but that’s just a thing of mine). He doesn’t find her particularly sexy to start with but their attraction blossoms as they get to know each other and he even describes her as a ‘friend’ which is a revelation for him as she’s female.

I warmed to Shawn a little more as I reached the half way mark, but when there’s a phone call with his mother in a care home and she’s in need of immediate help, I wasn’t impressed by how he handled it and that again turned me off him. Samantha however isn’t turned off and still wants a relationship with Shawn.

I felt there was a bit much going on for the word count of this book which is why I gave it half a star less than 4 which it could have had because the writing and plot are okay. Shawn wasn’t a bad man really, just complex and his niceness was buried beneath a lot of layers. With the present family issues and a bad childhood he’s a messed up soul. As for Samantha, she has burn scars on her chest from an abusive father – again it’s a part of the storyline that needed more attention in my opinion – and lost her mother at fifteen. A big pile of angst dropped into the dialogue when I least expected it and drew me out of the sexy.

My Biggest Fan is a rock ‘n’ roll read told from the rockstar’s voice. If you want to get in to the head of a sexy, mad, messed up guitarist this is your book.

Former SAS officer Adam Granger has wanted Beth Harrison ever since she came to work for him, but he fears dating his luscious assistant might prove awkward.

Beth’s been attracted to Adam from the start. Alpha male through and through, he is the model for the fictional Dom in the novel she’s writing. But getting involved with her boss? Probably not a good idea.

She discovers that he is the Dom she’s always wanted, but ghosts from his past have come back to haunt him, putting his business and his life at risk. Beth’s life is threatened and Adam must do all he can to protect what he holds most dear.

Inside scoop: In addition to lots of experimentation with BDSM and a yummy almost-ménage, there are references to a violent, non-consensual sexual encounter.

Master of Velvet is a boss and secretary love story with a healthy dose of BDSM at the surface but it’s got a lot more depth to it than that, it had a lot of heart and real emotions and I really enjoyed this story. Beth has loved her boss and even fantasized about him as a Dom but she doesn’t want to compromise her working relationship which is something I can really admire.

Adam loves Beth and wants her total submission in the bedroom and her sharp wit and independence outside. He definitely moves quickly when circumstances present the opportunity to take their relationship to the next level, and I think the only reason this story works so well is because they’ve know and worked together for years. Adam is both a very in charge character and someone who is very damaged but on the path to being whole. I’ll admit there is a scene with some slight role reversal, that was a bit of a shock to my system and I was a bit put off by it, but by the end of the story it made sense and I didn’t hate it as much.

Overall, it’s a well written enjoyable BDSM tale, and I really felt the depth and love between Adam and Beth. I also enjoyed the extra drama and suspense of the plot point with the ghosts of Adam’s past coming back to haunt them. I definitely recommend this story for fans of action and BDSM romance with a lot of heart and heat.

With a little bit of help from Kara, James leaves with Devin to indulge in a night together, which is as much time as he’s bound to get with a guy as hot as Devin. He doesn’t expect the easy rapport that quickly develops between them, and when the weather conspires to keep them together, James wonders if this could be more than just a weekend fling.

This is anthology of short stories featuring gay lovers in some unique situations.  Just a Drive by Tere Michaels and Just a Stranger by Elle Brownlee are very enjoyable.

Just a Drive deals with friendships, loyalty and relationships. What begins as a one-night-stand evolves into a story of two strangers bonding and helping each other. As the story evolves, we get a glimpse of what life was like for Wyatt as a gay teenager in a small town. I was very impressed with the way the author deals with such a sensitive matter. We are exposed to the bigotry Wyatt survived and was able to leave behind. Through all of this, his new friend Benji remains loyal and at his side. I was very moved by the degree of closeness the story conveys as these two characters survive a family emergency and their budding affair.

Just a Stranger focuses on families and commitment. Families come in shapes, sizes and combination of genders. This moving story will make you think again as to what it takes to create a family bond. No longer is there a need to always have a female/ male combination to represent mother and father. Children can be happy in any stable environment where love is a priority.

But my favorite is the last story called Just a Weekend by Elizah Davis.

This is love story that begins as a one-night stand hook-up. Their one night of passion evolves into a weekend where by plot twists, Devin and James end up spending quality time together and getting to know each. They are both able to slow down and savor the knowledge that what they have is a friendship that is growing and worth giving it a chance.

These characters are gentle and tender. You soon forget that these are two men… the relationship they are building could apply to any gender.

Can a weekend fling really have a chance to become more? Go ahead, read this story and you tell me if at the end you don’t have a silly grin on your face!

As an adult reader, Insects in the Infield is an inspiring read for younger readers. It’s a story that children can relate to being if they are failing in a school subject, dealing with a smart younger sibling, balancing sports and school learning and also handling bullies. Its an interesting story line with lovable characters and full of humor. Insects in the Infield is Animal Planet mets ESPN; the author gives educational scientific names for the insects and also she does a good job on the baseball game play descriptions. It is also a simple, laid back novel when children didn’t have much technology and they looked forward to outside play.

I enjoyed the relationship between Buster and his younger sister Maggie. My favorite character Maggie is very smart and isn’t ashamed of it. Maggie has book smarts and is happy to help her brother with his math and it is so cute how she is so organized with teaching and is so happy to teach. She also makes the lessons interesting for Buster by showing him the relation between math and baseball. Also, I enjoyed how Buster’s friends also chipped in to help Buster pull his math grade up. This really is important and showed true friendship.

It seems it took the parents quite awhile before they realized how badly Buster was doing in math, but when the teacher brought it to their attention the parents put rules into play. As with life there are bullies, and the author didn’t shy away from building tough bullies in this novel, but the fingerprints in blood on the notes were a bit much for me.

Insects in the Infield is a book where insects have talent, and the neighborhood baseball team rivalry is a big community event. Pick up a copy of Insects in the Infield to find out if Buster is able to pull up his failing math grade and find out if the Cougar’s be able to win a victory against the Pirates.

Greg offers Brandy a job to accompany him as arm candy to an adult costume affair. Brandy accepts and a contract is drawn up.

I didn’t feel the sparks between Brandi and Greg. I found it for them to have been absent from one another for ten years, and not need to catch up on life events. Basically they caught up on their sexual needs. No wining and dining to get reacquainted. Come to think of it, the author didn’t cover any feelings or bond that they shared in high school, maybe that’s why it seems there aren’t any sparks between the two. Greg wasn’t curious as to why Brandi dumped him years ago, there is no animosity nor does he ask what happened to her marriage…basically he welcomed her with open arms, no questions asked.

I like that the story was short, to the point and wasn’t dragged out. I like how the author turned things around for Brandi for the better. She goes from down on her luck to meeting pretty much the perfect man. Greg has the sex appeal, carries himself with self assurance and not overbearing nor too confident. He is financially well off and continues to pursue business ventures. It appears he has never stopped loving Brandi and wants to give her what she needs and want. What girl couldn’t be happy with a guy like this? He doesn’t have a lot of experience with women, but seems to be in tune with his sexual self and has a creative sexual mind. To have such detailed adult parties, and specialty rooms in his mansion is really a creative idea, and the author did a great job in including this to the story line, kicking it up a notch. The scenes within the private rooms are hot and sure to give a reader some heat, and at the adult party there is voyeurism, role playing, light sexual spanking and oral sex. For the story to be short the author did cover quite a bit in the story line.

Lois Gordon is nothing like Hank envisioned. Instead of the plump, older woman happily baking pies in her farmhouse kitchen, Lois is a smart, sexy powerhouse who runs Gordon Equine…and tempts him to break all his own rules.

The heat between them quickly flares into a weekend fling hotter than Lois’s oven. But with Hank’s dangerous career and two failed marriages between them, forever could be too much to ask for.

Commander Hank Miller is past forty, long divorced and wants nothing more after a hard day in Special Ops than to go home and relax. When asked to join the team for a beer after work, Hank’s initial impulse is to say no. But with mounds of boring paperwork, no one waiting for him at home and his friend’s request to talk to the team on a personal matter, Hank gracefully gives in and goes for the drink. When Jimmy Gordan announced his imminent wedding and his desire for their team to stand up with him, every man is on board. With the nuptials to occur in a scant two weeks, they all arrange to take some leave and descend upon Jimmy’s small home town. Pigeon Hollow – and Lois Gordan, Jimmy’s mother – won’t know what’s hit them.

This is a wonderful story, brilliantly paced and bursting with vibrant characters, laughter and a hint of spicy love. With a huge cast of characters, the author has done an amazing job keeping the balance. The Commander and Lois are certainly front and center, clearly the hero and heroine of the story, yet it’s equally clear the whole Special Ops team is important and no one has been overlooked. We get to catch up with everyone and still – for those of us who have just started this series – get a good sense of all the men’s personalities. I loved seeing how they all interacted, I thought it flowed really well and seemed so natural I didn’t realize how quickly I was turning the pages, lost in the story and characters. The only downside I found was with so many characters it was difficult to have a convoluted plot. While the wedding (and all the bachelor shenanigans) was an awesome read, it felt more like a catch-up of the team and characters, than a plot driven story. This in no way lessened my enjoyment, however, and there were many laughs and sighs over all the antics the men got into.

For readers who want a character driven, fast paced read, this is a great book. Filled with diverse and unique men, I found the team worked well together and this was an interesting, good read. While certainly not a graphic, erotic novel, there are descriptive love scenes and the bedroom door is left wide open. I found this added more spice between Lois and Hank, and helped me see the relationship blossoming between them better – especially when there were so many other characters in the main story to contend with. A fun, fast paced read with a delicate hint of spice to it, I really enjoyed this story and can heartily recommend it.

The night of Samhain is fast approaching, and for that one night a year, Gray and the last remaining Dire Wolves—amongst others—are entrusted with the protection of the veil between worlds, while it’s at its thinnest. Add in the threat of a new drug on the market, and they’ll have to work twice as hard to keep everyone safe. The last thing he needs is a sexy little Delta to save.

As a lowly Delta, Red Wolf shifter Ryan has never known peace. Cast away and unwanted, he is quickly taken captive and trained as a dancer at The Howling, a strip club in the worst part of Praeter. Hungry, abused, and kept in a drug-induced fog, his life is nothing. He is nothing but the orders and twisted demands of his captor. All that changes when he catches the scent of a wolf in the crowd.

Long ebony hair, eyes that can’t decide if they’re green or blue as they follow him on stage. Unable to stop himself, Ryan does the one thing guaranteed to earn him punishment. He touches the other wolf. Peace. For those few brief moments, the hunger, the pain, the torment…all gone. The price to feel that respite again, though, could very well be his life.

A fascinating and new spin on the paranormal romance, Delta Blues was the one of the best shifter books I’ve read in awhile. Ryan has lived a life of abuse and captivity but just one moment with Gray and he’s willing to suffer any amount of punishment for just one more moment of peace with him.

Gray, is an Alpha wolf and a Dire wolf to boot, which means when he shifts he’s huge, and very much in charge. He saves Ryan and their mating and love story may be fast forwarded but I felt every moment with them. I really hope to read more in this world. This book does a great job setting up the rules of the world and introducing characters who might want to take that world down and reshape it into a better world.

Ryan is a Delta and definitely not the type of character who would normally be in charge in situations but the way Ryan charges in to save the man he loves. I really loved that amount of moxie, It really made Ryan someone I could easily root for.

Overall, this is a great new world and series that I hope to spend more time in. I highly recommend it for fans of unique and fun MM paranormal romance.
