Lyssa — I should have known I’d end up with a biker. Most of my friends sighed over men in suits. Not me. I always liked a bad boy in grease-stained jeans. Probably comes with being raised by a club President. My daddy didn’t raise a fool, but my mother raised a dreamer. And if there’s one thing I’ve dreamt about the last few years, it’s Beast. He’s big. All alpha. But more importantly, the first time I see him in person, the moment our lips touch, I know he’s going to be mine. I might have been the princess of the Dixie Reapers, but I was meant to be his queen.

To find out if cialis generic tabs you really suffer from ED, it is not often to blame. buy cheap levitra icks.org You must visit the psychiatry clinic in Bhopal. There are several male enhancement pills available in the market, viagra store but intake of healthy food makes the best choice. Your diet plan should involve only essential nutrients like- vitamin, protein, omega-3, cialis order zinc, iron etc. Beast — A goddess walked into my clubhouse and turned my life upside down… in the best of ways. Just one problem. Well, two. The first is that my little pixie-sized honey isn’t just any woman. Her daddy is the President of another club, and her grandfather is a world-renowned assassin. And secondly, trouble is on her heels. The punk who thinks he can take what’s mine is easily dealt with, but going toe to toe with Torch and Casper VanHorne is enough to leave any man shaking in his boots.

Good thing I’m not just any man. I’m Beast. President of the Reckless Kings MC. And I’m the man who’s going to claim Lyssa, even if I have to knock her up to do it.

Ms. Wylde knows how to balance all the important elements of drama, romance, and the intricacies that make reading MC romances so addicting. Yes, the bedroom door is wide open in panorama vision, so-to-speak, with the addition of toys and other paraphernalia that make this hot level of romance go supernova. The story opens up with a heady dose of urgency with guns drawn and alpha males in protective mode. The excitement keeps building from there.

I really liked meeting Lyssa and I agree she’s perfect for Beast, the hero. And he certainly did earn his label of hero. Lyssa is from the Dixie Reapers and I have read quite a few of those stories so it was a treat to see her have her own. She proved that she is a confident, strong woman who knows exactly how to deal with Prospects who aren’t up to snuff.

There is a level of violence that is to be expected in an MC romance. I sometimes find it unrealistic to believe that anyone headed ‘for a shallow grave’, won’t ever be missed and that it’s that easy to get rid of Prospects with criminal intent, or even villains. Somehow, that Old West mentality can’t survive under the scrutiny of the 21st Century. I think that’s the only over-the-top, unrealistic element in the story. I’m not saying I don’t like it – it’s kind of nice to think that truly evil and twisted individuals get their permanent comeuppance, and the guys in white hats (or are they dusty gray?) are so clever about it, they never get caught and everyone they love is now safe because of their preemptive, proactive actions. Sometimes, you have to get a little violent to get the street cred that makes people think twice. Fortunately, Lyssa’s grandfather has that level of respect in spades.

Beast was a fun read, provided great escapism, included a wonderful romance between Lyssa and Beast, and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end. For those that prefer volcanic bedroom action, be prepared to grab the ice tray because Ms. Wylde delivered.

Over the course of one summer, four customers visit the café in the hopes of making that journey. But time travel isn’t so simple, and there are rules that must be followed. Most important, the trip can last only as long as it takes for the coffee to get cold.

Heartwarming, wistful, mysterious and delightfully quirky, Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s internationally bestselling novel explores the age-old question: What would you change if you could travel back in time?

Have you ever wished you could go back and fix a regret, change something you said or did not say to someone? In this tale set in a tiny, cozy café in Japan, people have that chance, but they only have a few minutes to get their point across: until their coffee gets cold.

There are several difficult conditions though; and a ghost who does not like to move from the one seat you must be sitting in to travel time. One of the conditions says that no matter what you do while traveling time, the present will not change. So, is it worth it to go back if you can’t change the present? And if so, why?

This tale is about different types of relationships, lovers, husband and wife, mother and daughter, and sisters. Each relationship has its own challenges and regrets. For example, a wife has to deal with her husband forgetting they are married, due to illness. What could she possibly say to him in the past, when he still remembers her, that could have meaning in the present?

The book is filled with many little descriptive details, which have the effect of creating memorable characters. The story has a paranormal feel and will evoke many tender emotions. Readers will be surprised at the outcome of each of these stories. I recommend this book.

I liked the fact that the topic of every tenth week was left up to the reader to choose for themselves. They gave me a few ideas to play around with, but I was free to come up with something else instead if I preferred. This was an excellent chance to expound on previous journal entries or talk about subjects that weren’t included in the official list. There is definitely something to be said for giving people space to personalize their journals like that.

Most of the prompts were well developed, but there were a few I thought could have been reworked to be a little more inclusive. For example, the sections about significant others, children, and jobs assumed that readers had ample personal experience with these things. It sure would have been nice if the prompts for these topics had included some questions that could be answered by readers who were single, childless, or on temporary or permanent leave from paid work. I know several people who fit into one or more of these categories and who I would have otherwise recommended this book to.

With that being said, I did appreciate how thorough the majority of the prompts were. For example, the ones that asked about the reader’s childhood were curious about happy memories as well as difficult ones. It was up to the reader to decide if they wanted to explore potentially traumatic moments in their earliest memories or if they wanted to stick to lighthearted topics. I thought that was a wonderful way to account for the wide variety of experiences many adults had during their childhood years.

Journaling Every Week – 52 Topics to Get You Writing was a thought-provoking resource to help get those creative juices flowing.

“Who needs a hot dog?” Jack Walters stood behind the grill at his one-room hot dog shop and surveyed the landscape. Fifteen people had packed into the space—ten waiting on orders and five spread among the three tables. People waited outside. He could almost hear the chatter of the customers over the sizzle of the grill.

Jack lived for the blur of action. He loved his shop and serving food to the people of Cedarwood. Truth be told, he liked being needed in the community and he enjoyed the din of conversation. He’d heard so much gossip over his twenty years at the shop. Couples splitting, people cheating on lovers and spouses, people cheating in business, discussing business, politics…he’d heard it all.

Unlike some of the restaurants in Cedarwood, he kept his business rather plain. Sure, there were metal signs from other hot dog shops and old advertising signs on the wall, but he wasn’t going for upscale ambience. He wanted a quick in-and-out type of establishment. Cash only and most customers took their food to go. He’d considered opening at a bigger location, but why mess with what worked?

He spotted Henry at one of the tables. Most people didn’t bother to stop and sit. They wanted quick and convenient. Henry seemed to linger every day, coming in after one in the afternoon, then staying until closing at three.

Jack filled orders, but his mind wandered to Henry. He didn’t know much about the guy beyond that he was a writer. He’d read a few of Henry’s articles in the local paper and seen his work in magazines displayed in the bookstore.

He’d learned the most about Henry—most of which he doubted was true—through the gossip grapevine in Cedarwood. Everyone talked about everyone. Henry lived alone, wrote stories and articles, traveled and didn’t say much. Henry liked order and could be cranky when things didn’t go his way.

Most people got irritated when things didn’t work out. He knew—he’d seen it at the shop. Hot dogs without the right toppings, with the right ones but cold or too hot, or swearing they’d been overcharged. He shook his head. Every hot dog cost exactly three dollars. Condiments were free, but cheese, jalapenos and chili cost an additional fifty cents each. The sodas were two bucks and fries cost a dollar. Easy.

Jack served up another handful of hot dogs, then read through the new orders. He added a new batch to the grill and glanced over at Henry. He wondered how old he was, since no one seemed to discuss that point. He couldn’t be much older than Jack’s forty-five years. Sure, he had some gray hairs on his temples and scattered through his short sandy tresses, but lots of people went gray far before middle age. Hell, he’d started showing grays at twenty-eight. He swore the loss of color came from the stress of the shop.

Maybe it did. Maybe he needed to loosen up. He’d been told he’d relieve stress if he visited a BDSM club, but he wasn’t sure he wanted someone spanking him.

He served up the hot dogs and only a few people were left in the shop. There tended to be a lull at two in the afternoon. People couldn’t seem to remember if his shop was open until two or three, even though he’d kept the same hours since he’d opened the shop twenty years before. The lull always happened at the same time, but the action ticked back up at two-thirty. “I’ve got to rush to get an order in before you close,” they’d say. He didn’t care.

Anna, his lone employee, closed the cash register and joined him at the grill. “That’s the last one for now—Henry’s paid.” She elbowed him. “He’s only asked for one refill.”

“He ordered,” Jack murmured. “All I ask is they buy food if they’re going to linger and he eats here every day. Leave him alone.”

She picked up an onion and one of the larger knives. She chopped the vegetable into small bits. “Just makes me wonder why he hangs out here so much. Think he’s bored?”

“No.” He’d kept an eye on Henry. Every day, Henry brought his notebook with him and jotted in the pages while he ate. Jack scraped the grill down, then lowered the heat. “I’m going to stretch.” He left the spatula in the holder, then rounded the grill. He strode right up to Henry. “Can I refresh your soda for you?”

“Oh.” Henry blushed. “Sure.” He closed the notebook. “Sorry. Got lost in my writing. Am I bothering you?”

“Nope.” He ducked behind the counter long enough to refill the cola, then brought the glass back to Henry. “I’m taking a break. Mind if I sit with you a moment?”

Now that he was right across from Henry, he could really look at him. The grays in his hair worked for him and gave him the look of seriousness without seeming severe. His blue eyes sparkled when he smiled, and Jack swore he had a dimple on the left side. Henry folded his hands on his notebook. Jack liked hands and preferred men with clean ones. Blunt working ones were fine, but he preferred pianist ones. Henry didn’t disappoint. Jack wondered what he’d look like holding a fountain pen. Probably sexy. He suppressed a snort. He barely knew Henry, but he’d already fantasized about him. At least the man was handsome—close-up and far away, too.

“You’re staring at me.” Henry’s blush increased. “Am I wearing mustard on my mouth?”

“No.” Jack averted his gaze. This time, his ears burned. “I’m sorry. I spend so much time behind the counter, and I don’t get much of a chance to talk to the customers. You’re always in here, so I wanted to chat, but I got lost in the comfort of sitting.” Jesus. How ridiculous? The comfort of sitting? He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay.” Henry held out his hand. “I’m Henry Lord. I write travel articles for magazines and I’m a libra. I’m forty-seven and single. I like long walks at sunset and the quaintness of this shop.”

He laughed at Henry’s means to break the tension. “Thank you.” He nodded. “I’m Jack Walters. I own the Hot Dog Shop and I’m not sure which astrological sign I am. Never bothered to look. I’m forty-five and single, too. I spend too much time at the shop and not enough at home.”

“Nice to meet you.” Henry smiled. “Looks like we’re both a bit flawed.”

Jack shrugged. “There’s something to be said for flawed.”

“There is.”

The bell dinged and a group of customers entered the shop. Jack sighed. “Duty calls. Maybe next time we’ll get to chat for more than a few moments.” He winked, then left his seat and resumed his position behind the grill. Of all the times he had to work, it had to be this one, when he wanted to get to know more about Henry. A travel writer. Interesting. He’d barely ventured out of Ohio. Henry had probably traveled all over the globe. His partner had to be either very forgiving or the travel had led to their breakup.

A thought occurred to him. Henry hadn’t said he was gay, but he’d mentioned he was single. Christ, he had to get his overactive imagination under control. For all he knew, Henry wasn’t gay—just single. All the handsome ones in Cedarwood tended to be straight. Most of the gay men had paired up.

Jack focused on making food and tried to ignore the need to look over at Henry. He’d felt a spark when they’d locked gazes, but Henry seemed shy—not attracted. Jack shook his head. Knowing him, he’d overestimated the spark. Again.

He wanted to be in love. Wanted to be needed. There had to be someone out there for him. Someone who understood he had a business and was required to be there if he wanted to make money. Someone who could love him, despite his tendency to close himself off. He needed a partner. An equal.

Talk about a lot to superimpose on someone. Henry might not be interested in being all those things. Might not want to be any of them.

Jack focused on grilling hot dogs for the two-thirty rush and did his best to ignore Henry.

Why focus on what might not even be possible? Because sometimes the impossible did happen.

My Rite of Passage During the Summer of ’76 by H. Downing Lane – Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

MY RITE OF PASSAGE DURING THE SUMMER OF ’76 is a riveting coming-of-age memoir about adventure on the high seas with philosophical musings that add a resonant layer of depth.

In this memoir, H. Downing Lane recalls the 25-day transatlantic sailing trip he took in 1976 as a young man, the details of the journey around Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and other locales, and reflects on its significance as a coming-of-age learning experience.

H. Downing Lane was 26 years old in 1976 when he decided to sign up for a transatlantic sailing trip into the Arctic with an accomplished captain named E. Newbold Smith. In this vivid, often exhilarating memoir, Lane draws from journal entries written during his time at sea to share an account of the remarkable voyage.

The Atlantic crossing was a 25-day affair, from Chesapeake Bay, around Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the coast of Norway. It was undertaken at a point in Lane’s life when he was feeling particularly vulnerable, as he was recovering from an accident in which he had lost an eye. He wished to “prove [his] mettle,” not to the other men aboard the boat, but to himself. As it turned out, Captain Smith was something of a kindred spirit, as he too had survived a devastating accident many years earlier. Lane provides the reader with a realistic vision of what life aboard a sailing vessel is like, from the often freezing temperatures above and below deck, to the many challenges presented by simple bodily necessities. He describes various technical aspects of working on the boat, but his language never devolves into jargon; his account is always perfectly clear and accessible.

Lane seasons the text with literary and philosophical quotes that frequently allow him to consider the greater meaning of his experience, and even of life itself. There are also numerous stunning photographs included of the boat and the various stops along the way.

Even in the more fantastical 1939 tale of The Wizard of Oz when the Wicked Witch of the West orders her minions of flying monkeys to attack Oz, viewers are fascinated with these flying creatures for almost the same reasons. However, in a Biblical tale when the dove returns to the ark with an olive branch, Noah realizes that land is now nearby. Here the bird is portrayed as mankind’s messenger, guide and ally. Whether symbolic or real, whether friend or foe, birds definitely have captured and intrigued man’s imagination. Would life be wonderful, feel wondrous if freedom and floating were our way of life. They float our thoughts and tickle and tantalize our dreams.

It is common knowledge that sailors always look for indicators that terra firma isn’t too far away. “Land Ho!” is music to any salt who has been at sea for any extended length of time. Whether positioned high above in a masthead crows nest or closer to sea level on the bow pulpit, crew members assigned as lookouts listen for the sounds of shoals or reefs and pay particular attention to distant, dark ominous clouds, floating branches, seaweed, shallow water, whitewater as well as the increased presence of birds. No whistling is allowed on a sailing vessel for that reason.

Granted Reindeer hadn’t been at sea for forty days and nights (even though it felt like it). Granted we didn’t have any land birds on board our ark (unless you count some crew members attempts at humor). Granted we had not shot any birds for our unfavorable conditions either. And, of course, Reindeer wasn’t ever mistaken for a fairy tale, myth or metaphor…a little out of place, unfamiliar and odd, maybe, but not something from a poet’s, director’s or devout Christian’s imagination. While Reindeer was real, it is sometimes humans’ limited perspective coupled with superstition, fantasy or imagination that creates their “reality.”

Major Zara Dare, air force brat from CFB Moose Jaw, home of 15 Wing. Zara followed in her father’s footsteps by joining the air force. Unfortunately, she did not attain his pilot status. Her talents lie elsewhere. She always felt the need to make her dad proud, but knew she fell short. Now she has a tough new assignment. While His Royal Highness is attending the international Connaught Ranges annual shooting event in Ottawa, Zara is tasked to be part of his security detail. She must ensure the safety of the outspoken and unpredictable Royal. It would all be fine if she could keep their relationship on a professional footing, but minutes after they meet at the Governor General’s gala, the prince begins changing things to suit him.

This is a wonderful story that drew me in from the beginning with a wonderful plot, great characters, and a sweet romance. The plot features Major Zara Dare and Prince James of Oílean Ríochtor (or Island Kingdom in English) which is a chain of islands west of Scotland and east of Norway. They meet because of a shooting contest that several countries participated in and the highest scorers earned prizes. The Major is in charge of making sure the contest ran smoothly and also to make sure that the prince was kept safe.

Zara is a strong character who comes from a military family and is devoted to her duty and country. She is well liked and respected and admired by her colleagues and those that she has competed with before. I enjoy watching her interact with each character; she seems to have an inborn knack of knowing just how to approach each person. She has her eye on becoming an intelligence agent, which is why she was assigned the duty of escorting the prince. What she doesn’t expect is her own reaction when she first meets James. It’s an example of instant attraction but not just to his looks. She appreciates his values and can relate to his sense of duty. She fights the attraction even as she falls further and further in love with him, knowing that her career and his position would not be a great mix. I really enjoyed watching her bounce back and forth as at one moment she thinks it’s a fling and the next thinking his feelings run deeper.

James, also known as” Sandhurst” as a code name for security reasons has been sent on this diplomatic mission to see if he could find help with figuring how to manage newly found resources. His sister, the Queen is pregnant with twins and is unable to make it, so against his will James takes up his duties as a prince although he would much rather stay in the army. Like Zara he takes his duty to his country seriously. His reaction when he first meets Zara is rather funny because like her he is smitten at first sight. This is not the first time he has heard of her. His two bodyguards knew her from previous contests, and she earned their respect and friendship. James is a determined and persistent man who goes after what he wants, and what he wants is Zara. He can be very sly when he wants to be.

I enjoyed the personal bodyguards who were two of his best friends and were under his command. They were also going to compete in the contest, but Corning ended up having an accident and breaking her ankle, leaving her prince with one less bodyguard. As I mentioned before, James is a sly one and so uses his influence to have Zara become his other bodyguard. This is when things become really interesting. He makes sure that he is alone with Zara as much as possible and I like that they both make sure each one knows how they stand with each other. Zara really enjoys his company and as the tours continue, she finds it harder and harder to resist him. Especially when he kisses her which shows the reader without words just how compatible they are. I really enjoyed that the author made sure that James met Zara’s parents and found out that her father was in the Air Force and the respect James shows him goes a long way to getting his respect. Zara’s mother is a hoot as she treats him like any other person, feeding him up with pie.

There was a nice twist to the plot right when they think everything is going well, which adds some great suspense. Just as them seems to be a happily ever ending, with the suspense wrapped up, there is an ominous final sentence that makes the reader want to know what is going to happen to them next.

Put away your pocket protectors: This hilarious story includes a nerdy shifter accountant with a bad-boy side, a fiercely protective human heroine, and a baby bear cub who will make every reader sigh in cuteness. Fans of Shelly Laurenston and paranormal adventure won’t want to miss the newest installment in the BeWere My Heart series!

The zany and crazy starts off really fast in this novel. An ambulance that isn’t an ambulance, wolves where there shouldn’t be, crazy pizza delivery guys that really aren’t, kids that aren’t exactly kids, a house that is rumored to be cursed and a heroine just trying to put down roots and have a normal life. She has no idea what she’s in for.

One very unusual, but charming and eccentric detail is how the inner wolf-speak is so different than an adult’s articulated speech. It’s almost childlike, you know, innocent, simple, repetitive and very, very enthusiastic. The author used that technique to good effect whenever the hero was in his furry form.

Another cute aspect of the novel is the building community. Lila meets the main characters of her neighborhood at warp speed, from trespassing, to bear repair, fairy bread and repairs of doors busted of their hinges. Odd hours, odd conversations and Oz loving the fact that Lila is not only capable, but seemingly unflappable, calm and has a gun and not afraid to us it. The teenagers find her cool, little Sally trusts Lila and the adults slowly do the same. I like Lila’s personality, and Oz’s reaction to her is charming and cute. True, he can be formidable, he is a werewolf after all, but when it comes to the heroine, he’s a handsome, well-dressed lovable marshmallow.

Speaking of Sally; she’s a pivotal secondary character that is integral to the plot, mystery and pace of the story. I enjoyed how I was introduced to her, how she won the hearts of all the other characters and how helping her, helped solve a much bigger and serious plot thread.

I startled my hubby so bad when I barked out a huge HA! at the part with the shorty robe. Then I snickered. Those two sentences in that scene totally tickled my funny bone. So, yes, there is a smorgasbord of reasons to smile during this novel, so even though the fires, drama and a bit of suspense is to be taken seriously, the author managed to keep the overall feeling of the novel, upbeat.

There are truly too many points, fun parts, interesting character interactions, dialogue and surprises to do justice in explaining how much I enjoyed the story. There were a few language choices that I personally cringed at, but take them out of the picture, and A Wolf After My Own Heart is a perfect MaryJanice Davidson read. I enjoyed the first book in the series, but I like this one a lot better.

The world is drowning.

Edan’s tribe has always survived by knowing the land and following its stories.

But now their world is changing, and they must change with it, or die.

When young fisherman Edan rescues the troll seer Tara from Phelan wolf-touched, he makes a powerful enemy. But Tara’s visions bring them hope that the world might still be saved.

Edan must break away from tradition and cross the Summer Lands in search of a new future, but where does that future lie? With Phelan’s wolf clan? With the Fomor sea-devils? Or with Tara’s uncertain hope for salvation?

The Drowning Land takes us back eight thousand years to the Mesolithic Period when a lost land, Doggerland, still connected England to France across what is now the North Sea. Inspired by the extensive research conducted by archaeologists over the past two decades, this is a story of our distant ancestors and how they confronted the climate catastrophe that overwhelmed their world.

Salty ocean water is seeping into the meadows and forests and destroying them. There are fewer animals to hunt or plants to gather with each passing season, so how can Edan and Tara hope to survive?

The world building in this novel was phenomenal. Mr. Donachie created several different tribes among the humans and Troll People that each had their own complex cultures, histories, taboos, rituals, and legends. Figuring out the differences between them was nearly as rewarding as taking note of all of the ways in which they were more similar to one another than most of them would probably have cared to admit. The author also created well-developed and logical settings that helped to explain why one culture might fear a forest while another couldn’t imagine life outside of it. I couldn’t have been more impressed with all of the work he put into making Doggerland come alive in my imagination.

I loved the way the romantic subplot was handled. The characters involved in it were dealing with multiple conflicts at the same time, so any hint of love or romance between them needed to develop slowly when they found moments here and there to catch their breath. This gave them plenty of time to get to know each other as individuals first. It also made me eager to find out if one of them would finally make the first move and push that part of the storyline forward!

The pacing was strong and steady from the first scene to the last one. No matter how many chapters I’d already read on a particular day, I always wanted to read just one more. It was exciting to imagine what might happen to the characters next. The storyline always struck that perfect balance between action scenes and brief moments of reflection and rest when needed.

One of the things I enjoy the most about prehistoric stories like this one is how they translate real scientific discoveries about the lives of ancient people into fiction. Mr. Donachie did an excellent job of explaining some of the most recent theories about what life in the real Doggerland was like eight thousand years ago and what probably happened to the people who had to flee it as the sea levels rose and all of that land was swallowed up by the ocean. Without giving away spoilers, I was also mesmerized by the author’s explanation of who the Troll People were and why it’s possible they truly existed thousands of years ago.

I can’t recommend The Drowning Land highly enough, especially to anyone who adores stories about hunter-gatherers and prehistory.

As if my fingers were far, far away, I felt my hands loosen. I dimly heard my cleaning bucket of brushes and other supplies thud to the carpet in room seven.

Bailey howled and raced from the room, his ears flapping. And who could blame him? The room itself seemed to revolt at the scene. Even the faked pie-tin UFO photo hung at an awkward angle above the rumpled bed.

Early evening shadows knifed across my mother’s sensible shoes. She sat in a vintage wing chair in one corner of the room. “Shut the door,” she commanded and removed the clip from a Russian pistol.

Automatically, I obeyed.

Mouth slack, I backed against the door. “You… That’s…” My breath came in quick gasps. Dots swam in front of my eyes. This wasn’t my first body in the B&B. But…

The leg slipped in my father’s grip, the shoe inching closer to his shoulder.

Briefly, I wondered if this was what lost time felt like, this sense of being out of phase, outside ordinary reality. Unthinking, I groped for my day planner. But of course it wasn’t there. I didn’t carry it around when I cleaned.

Should I?
