Instead, she finds herself attempting to discover what really happened to Gail. Assisting her in the quest is Livia, a mysterious new acquaintance with a peculiar connection to the sea who claims she also may know a way to save Darcy’s life…

The ocean is full of mysteries. Only a few of them have been discovered so far.

There’s something vaguely melancholy about looking out at the ocean on a cold day. Few people are willing to walk down the beach on the off-season, so there’s a good chance that anyone who does show up will be alone. Such a quiet time and place was the perfect background for this tale. Darcy’s grey mood matched her setting so well that I couldn’t imagine one without the other.

I had some trouble understanding the romantic elements of this story. The characters involved in it were fascinating as individuals, but the chemistry between them never quite worked for me. There were many obstacles between them and their desire to be together. It would have been easier for me to root for them to end up together if they’d either had fewer issues to overcome or more time to come up with creative solutions for all of the things that were keeping them apart.

Figuring out Livia’s connection to the sea was straightforward. The clues about it were fairly easy to recognize for anyone who is familiar with this sort of tale, but having my guess confirmed was gratifying. Livia was a likeable character, though, and her secret only added to her charm. Both her strengths and her weaknesses revealed important information about her identity. She was exactly who I expected her to be!

All-in-all, I’d recommend Periwinkle Cove to anyone who really enjoys this genre of story.

A deadly conspiracy… The Anniversary Day bombings on the Moon sent shockwaves throughout the Earth Alliance. No one knows who created the clones responsible and turned them into ruthless killers. No one knows where or when they’ll strike next. The bombings compel Earth Alliance Frontier Marshall Judita Gomez to launch an unauthorized investigation into a case from her past involving the murder of clones. An investigation that might cost Judita not only her career but the lives of her crew.

Earth Alliance Frontier Marshal Judita Gomez is very good at her job. She keeps order on the outer edges of the Earth Alliance, and she solves puzzling mysteries. She has learned to work with a variety of sentient species and is known for her respect for and consideration of different cultures. She is aided in her work by the assistance of her crew aboard a state of the art ship which has all the forensic equipment she could ever want. However, she has now come across a case which causes her to wonder if there is a plot to undermine or destroy the Earth Alliance. She launches her own unauthorized investigation into one of her past cases, one where she’d flagged certain information for follow-up actions, actions which were never taken.

I liked Gomez. She is really smart and capable and she obviously cares about those she works with. She is sensitive and able to pick up on the feelings of others, even those from very different cultures. There are a number of other interesting characters, including a lawyer named Torkild Zhu, who finds himself needing to do something different, some pro bono work, and quickly ends up in over his head.

This is the third novel in The Anniversary Day Saga, but it reads well as a stand alone. I have not read any of the earlier novels and I had no trouble following the action. The author has put in a note at the beginning of this book suggesting that readers who begin the series with this novel return to the first and second books before proceeding. Then the remainder of the series will be released one volume at a time until June 2015. I think that is a very exciting way to do a series, with readers eager for the next installment. Book Four: Search and Recovery has just been released and the final four volumes are available for pre-order.

Readers of both police procedurals and science fiction are sure to enjoy this exciting series.

Gilly. Big, beautiful, smart-mouthed, one hell of a lady and oh, yeah — a werewolf who works on a faux-reality show. It’s a living. Warren. Die-hard cynic with the attitude and build of a Navy SEAL. Does not believe in the supernatural. He’s in for the surprise of his life. Dusty. A toned, muscled, devastatingly handsome teddy-bear of a guy. Loves to play games. Loves Gilly and Warren. He’s not prepared for what’s going to happen.

Together, the three of them are an unstoppable force. Sex, love and friendship rule the day and rock their world. That’s the way it’s always been. But they’re about to be put to the test. One night at a dance club plus one stranger in a ridiculous vampire costume equals a whole lot of trouble. Especially when the stranger turns out to be a real vampire. One who has some really nasty plans for Gilly, Warren and Dusty.

Even women who have entered the menopause have reported that viagra soft 50mg has increased their sex drive and libido. According to a survey done, in USA most of the cases, passive factors including work stress, disturbed personal relationships and cheap no prescription cialis amerikabulteni.com lack of confidence contribute to this problem. They are simply swallowed cialis generic price whole about an hour before intercourse. The active ingredient of the medication belongs to levitra generika 20mg amerikabulteni.com a group of drugs called PDE5-inhibitors that work by boosting blood supply to the penile region. The problem with his plan? Gilly doesn’t take anything lying down, and she’s ready to kick some ass…

Gilly loves her men, that is unquestionable she demonstrates this in her willingness to both please them as well as do what it takes to get them back. It is sweet the way she cares for them, even when they do not know how truly much she protects them from the things that go bump in the night.

Gilly by far is the standout character in this story. She definitely brings a bright and at times dark aspect to the story. As it is told from her point of view, you get a lot of her quirky personality which I really appreciated. Even when her and her boys are facing possible death she still manages to keep her quick wit and smart mouth. She definitely keeps the story rolling and moving forward with plenty of entertainment.

Dusty and Warren’s characters felt a little flat at times on the other hand. They both had their own personalities. Dusty being the loveable and naive guy you just can’t help but to love. Warren very militant and logical and holding things together usually. I just would have liked to have seen a bit more about these characters as they made each character so different. They were a modern day odd couple, and seeing more of that would have made the ménage relationship felt more genuine and long lasting for me.

Dracula proves to Dusty and Warren that not only are vampires real, but they have more control over mortals and even werewolves than you can imagine. It is kind of scary how easily Dracula is able to take control over Dusty and Warren. Really makes me wonder if it is possible. This antagonistic conflict is a large part of the story, as Dracula easily makes them bend to his will and proves he can use them as puppets in any way he sees fit. I liked this element to the story, but other elements in the story felt a bit to clichéd to me and made it felt a bit disingenuous.

This story features sex, sex and more sex. There is no shortage of erotica here, and I loved it. I did label it forced as Dracula does force the parties to do sexual acts when they are under his spell, but it is done in a way that is tasteful for the genre and definitely not too much for this girl. Though I did cringe at a few of the acts wondering if it was painful, the characters seemed to enjoy themselves so how could I not enjoy it with them? I like my erotica with plenty of kink and eroticism so this was perfect for me.

I would say if you want a light, fun yet kinky story this will definitely fit the bill. It was definitely an easy read, and may even make you wish you can be mentally stimulated by a vampire or two yourself.

In honor of his brother, he takes Bettie, the brothers’ souped-up vintage truck, out for a spin. A bit of an adrenaline junkie, Garrison has no problem finding trouble. This time trouble’s named Walt, and he happens to be Garrison’s sister-in-law’s brother.

Neither man expects their fun to amount to anything else, but after an injury sends Garrison home for good, he turns to Walt, hoping to start a new life. Walt is a closeted sheriff’s deputy, and while he adores Garrison, he isn’t sure he’s ready to come out… or for such a big commitment. Being fresh out of the service isn’t easy on Garrison either. To find their happy ending, Walt and Garrison must overcome their trust issues and get ready to settle down together.

Garrison Matthews is shocked at his brother’s untimely death. Although he’d seen plenty of pictures, he only met his brother Brandon’s wife, Kylie, and her brother, Walt, the day of the funeral. A Navy SEAL, Garrison is used to doing difficult things, but nothing so far has prepared him for his brother’s death. When Walt offers to take him away from the wake for some decent food at a local restaurant, Garrison jumps at the chance to escape, even for just a short time. Walt is still in the closet – a cop in a small-minded, small town, and Garrison is only on a week’s leave. Even knowing this, the two men can’t help themselves as the chemistry sparks between them.

While at first I was unsure at how fast Garrison and Walt hooked up — especially at Garrison’s brothers funeral — the author really put me at ease with a comment Garrison made, how Brandon would have thought it was funny and cool. That broke the tension for me and I could really ease back and enjoy reading Garrison and Walt coming together. The fact there was tons of chemistry between them and the sex was smoking hot really helped me too. I also really enjoyed the sub-plot of Garrison and Brandon’s truck, Bettie. I’m not really a car person, but I really felt Garrison getting Bettie helped show in a unique way how he could deal with his grief over the loss of Brandon. This really felt to me like it added to the emotion and depth both of Garrison’s character and the plot.

I really enjoyed this story. Despite the hot sex, it’s still incredibly emotional. I love how the author has shown us so much of Walt and Garrison’s thoughts and feelings. This made me feel really connected with them both and gave the story a much deeper meaning than two men hooking up and falling for each other. Although the men have sex from early in the book, there is still a slow pace of Garrison and Walt getting to know each other. There is plenty of time and detail in how their relationship blossoms and grows. This isn’t a fast-paced novel, and I rather enjoyed that aspect to it, the feeling of more depth and time taken for the two men to settle into each other’s lives fully. Recommended.

She knows she has to go there but when she does, she steps not into the pleasant and restful vacation she craves but into the arms of an ancient evil waiting for their chance.

This book took off from the get go for me. I’ve read Catherine Cavendish’s work before and have enjoyed her brand of storytelling. In this story, you feel the grief of a woman who has lost her husband and the desperate grasping at anything that gives her life meaning once more. When she begins to dream of a stranger and a very particular hill, she finds out about the place and books a trip. Unfortunately for her, the past is very much alive in Pendle and the witches won’t go quietly.

The historical aspect of the story appealed to me immensely and as Laura got in deeper and deeper, I couldn’t put this book down. It was a bounce back and forth between contemporary and historical settings, with changes in POV as the change occurred. I much prefer third person as the historical portions were done in, but the first person didn’t distract too much from my enjoyment of the book. It was a wonderful horror novel that took all the best elements of the genre and brought to life a time in history that we don’t often think about.

If you love a great story with witches and things that go bump in the night, you need to try this one!

Don’t moose with his fox!

A bullheaded moose doesn’t stand a chance when a fox decides to make him her mate.

Boris left to defend his country still a boy. He came back a changed man. A damaged man.

But Jan still wants him.

A man of few words, Boris has a firm way of saying No, but this determined vixen knows he’s her mate. Despite some less than subtle overtures, Jan has not had much success in getting her bullheaded moose to notice her, but all that changes when her life is put in danger.
So men lets wise up or we will find that generic viagra from usa the brand medicine needs to marketing and stand in the queue at the chemist store. Suddenly the damaged soldier keeps finding excuses to come to her rescue, but as far as Jan is concerned, her mate is the one in need of saving.

It will take some subtle maneuvering to outfox her moose into admitting he loves her, but this wily vixen is more than ready for the challenge. And if that doesn’t work, momma’s offered to loan her the shot gun used for her own engagement.

Moose puns are fun. One of the things I’ve noticed about Ms. Langlais’s stories is her clever and chuckle-worthy use of animal appropriate metaphors and dialogue. I found myself laughing or giggling when I least expected it many times throughout reading Outfoxed by Love.

This story picks up where the first book left off, but coming from Jan’s point of view. The story is told in both the hero and heroine’s POV so I was able to see how their internal crises affected them and the domino effect it had on the people and environment around them. I’d say this book could be a standalone read but why would someone not want to have the full effect? I think I enjoyed this story more because I had read the first one.

Boris, the hero, is full of himself. He’s confident in his skills and abilities and he’s equally confident that he’s so emotionally damaged by his torture and captivity that he’s no good for any woman, especially the fox of his dreams, Jan. He’s the epitome of a tortured hero – with a snarky sarcastic streak.

Jan isn’t a fox in name only; she’s got the claws to prove it. The heroine also has an epiphany – she’s been courting her moose all the wrong way. Once she figures that out, the fur flies and the moose bellows sound and I was highly entertained.

What Jan didn’t count on, and what had me snickering at Boris’s and hers embarrassment and discomfort, was the arrival of Jan’s parents. They were a great addition to the story and added an extra fun factor to the plot. Her dad is also a very sneaky guy and has some serious skills of his own bordering on scary. I was most impressed. The heroine’s mom is no slouch either. In my review of the first book in the series, Kodiak’s Claim I met Gene, the villain. I had an issue with his badness because I saw hints of something redeemable. I wasn’t the only one because Jan’s mom saw it too and I was tickled that Gene might be able to be saved. I had my doubts with the big battle though. There was a lot of blood spilled and I thought for sure he was going to meet his end as all evil villains should.

Dastardly deeds aside, the romance between Boris and Jan was cute, frustrating, funny and exciting. When Boris finally gets over himself and allows himself to lose control with his lovely fox, sparks and fireworks exploded and, because the writing was so well done, was excellent to read and highly enjoyable, not to mention very sensual and spicy, I had fun.

There is another underlying plot thread that Gene was directly involved with in the first book and it carried over into Outfoxed by Love. However, it gets twisted and Gene does something that makes me think Jan’s mom’s assessment is spot on. Only time will tell, but now I’m very excited to read the next book in the series.

Outfoxed by Love sure kept me on the edge of my seat, especially when the battles were fought. I enjoyed watching Boris rescue Jan and her rescue him right back. They’re a great couple and totally made this book worth reading. Ms. Langlais has a great thing going so far with this series and I can’t wait to read more. I feel like a kid who’s discovered a new flavor of candy and can’t get enough.

On Character creation:

I love this question because it’s my favorite part of writing. The thing about character creation, for me anyway, is I never go in with an outline of exactly who that person is. I know she’s female, likely conflicted, or a guy who’s about to give up everything he loves for the woman he loves – that’s it! As soon as type hits paper, so to speak, the characters slowly start to reveal themselves to me. They tell me what to say, where they’re going and how we’re going to get there and I just type. I have a writer friend who plots everything, including her characters, ahead of time. She knows their age, what they look like, what they do for a living. Still, she creates amazing reads. I cannot plot effectively. It just doesn’t work for me. I feel it’s much more natural to just let the characters do the talking and I’m always happy with the results.

10 things most people don’t know about you;

Well, I got a couple for you. My “real” job is as a radio announcer. I’ve done it for many years, working in the radio business as a disc jockey plus creating commercials for airplay. I love it and have found my writing skills come in handy when creating interesting spots. Another thing people don’t know, and probably comes as no surprise for someone who does what I do, is that I’m terribly shy off air. I’ve gotten much better about this through the years but there is definitely a transformation that takes places when one sits in the “air chair” and gets to become the life of the party for five hours a day. People mistakenly believe dj’s are always on, yeah, not so much. When the mic goes off and I leave the studio, I leave it all behind! However, I have gleaned some interesting characters from the request line that ultimately find their way into a storyline.

Lessons I learned from my hero (heroine/villain);

Cliché as it sounds, “don’t give up.” My protagonist, Caila, fights for everything she wants. And when what she wants changes, she’s fights for that. I found this to be true in my own life. The more vocal you are (strange thing for a radio dj to say) the more you’ll be heard. It’s easy to sit on the benches and wait, but much harder to say, “Coach, I’m ready, put me in.” Fight like your life, or more accurately, your self-esteem, depended on it.

One of my own writing quirks.;

I act out the dialogue of the characters. I find it lends a more authentic voice to not only them but to the story. I immediately get turned off when reading a novel with contrived conversations. In radio we speak, and write, for the ear. It’s come in handy when creating interesting characters with interesting, and real, exchanges.

If I’d never heard of me would I read my book?

What a great question. And, yes, it’s true. Instead of falling ever so easily for the “well you never heard of ___ before ___ book,” let me just bring that around to my own personal truth. If just one person read this book and enjoyed it, I would feel as if I had done my job. However, I have tons of faith in this book because I not only enjoyed writing it, but reading it as well. At the risk of sounding braggadocio, let me just say that everything about Heart-Shaped Stone clicked – the characters, the plot, the twists. I can’t say that one-thousand percent with other things I’ve written. I urge people, women in particular, to read this story because the feedback that I’ve had from women is very encouraging. It hits all those things we love.

How to handle negative criticism;

I’ve got one review I can’t shake and it kills me! But it’s a fair and honest review. She went into a lot of detail about, well, detail! I pride myself on being a thorough editor but still, she found things. To me they are minor, to those who love my book, they are minor, but they are still real things. When all is said and done I take heart in that the book is one not to be over-analyzed. It’s simply a very fun ride with awesome characters, twists and turns and an ending no one, not even myself, was expecting. I say read the first chapter and you’ll be hooked.

The making of a writer in your genre;

Easy answer…because I love a good love story and a complicated one all the more. I think it’s safe to say you’re attracted to that which you love most.

What would I tell a new author?

Believe in your product! Yes, I didn’t say story, I said product. Some take umbrage with that but in the end it’s truly a product. And I don’t mean that in the sense of a marketable, “make-me-tons-of-money-now” way, though that would be nice, but that you’ve got to treat what you’ve done like a product. This is what makes the best salespeople the best…they believe in their product. Believe in what you’ve written. If you don’t, that’s a sign something is wrong.

The hardest part about writing is…

I’d say the middle. It became like that couch you just loved in the furniture store. You take it home, admire your “I could have been an interior designer” taste, throw pillows on it and invite everyone to come see it and sit on it. But by month three you notice it’s sagging in the middle. The ends are still quite lovely, giving your couch a great beginning and ending, but there’s something about the middle that’s not right. You throw more pillows on it, hoping no one notices the middle is just a means to get to the end. But in the end there’s no getting around that your middle needs less cushion and more fabric.

Caila, like most dreamers, just wants to be wanted. Unlike most dreamers, she’s wanted by the CIA.

When the last decade of thirty-two year old Caila Domenici’s life disappears, destroyed in a car accident, she is forced to begin again. Defying doctor’s orders to slow-go-it, she sets out to navigate the world on her own. It’s not going well. Coddled from birth, everything from a bus schedule to how to boil water confounds her. Worse yet, she’s about to accept her meddling mother’s offer to pay for food and rent. With just a hunch her talents extend beyond that of daughter of privilege, Caila searches for her past. Before she can find it, it finds her. And the handsome azure-eyed stranger who’s saying he knows her is somehow part of it.

Caila always believed there had to be more, but now, on the verge of discovering the truth, she must decide which is worse – never knowing who she really is, or knowing too much.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Reese was being too nice. Something was up – their deep conversation the night before, the bubble bath, the tea, turning down her bed and now breakfast? Caila wasn’t suspicious by nature, and in most cases trusted more than she should, but where Reese was concerned she dropped all pretenses and questioned his every move. He was much too calculating to not see opportunity in everything he did. Caila recognized that in him right away. Her mind was now churning with theories. Why, if he was up to something, would he be so blatant with this sudden kindness? Did he think she would not notice?

Then she imagined the most unexpected thing.

Maybe he wasn’t up to anything at all. Maybe this was another side to the man she detested right from the start. The invader, the man who came to make her life a living hell and push aside her father may not, after all, be the man she believed him to be. But even that theory was short lived. In March of 1975, as New York City hurtles toward bankruptcy and the Bronx burns, newsman Coleridge Taylor roams police precincts and ERs. He is looking for the story that will deliver him from obits, his place of exile at the Messenger-Telegram. Ever since he was demoted from the police beat for inventing sources, the 34-year-old has been a lost soul. A break comes at Bellevue, where Taylor views the body of a homeless teen picked up in the Meatpacking District. Taylor smells a rat: the dead boy looks too clean, and he’s wearing a distinctive Army field jacket. A little digging reveals that the jacket belonged to a hobo named Mark Voichek and that the teen was a spoiled society kid up to no good, the son of a city official. Taylor’s efforts to protect Voichek put him on the hit list of three goons who are willing to kill any number of street people to cover tracks that just might lead to City Hall. Taylor has only one ally in the newsroom, young and lovely reporter Laura Wheeler. Time is not on his side. If he doesn’t wrap this story up soon, he’ll be back on the obits page—as a headline, not a byline.

If you like your mysteries on the gritty side I’d say this one’s definitely for you. The opening drew me in with the down on his luck, Coleridge Taylor finding what could be his ticket out of writing obituaries for his employer. He’s easily likeable and along with this main character you start to think something isn’t right when he stumbles across the body of a teenager who supposedly froze to death…but did he?

From that moment on I was hooked. All the characters are well-drawn and although I’m not always a fan of mysteries with a corruption and hit-list type theme, this one did keep me reading just to find out if I was right about my theories as to how far the corruption went and would Coleridge pay the price for his inquisitiveness.

Mr. Zahradnik did a great job portraying the color and culture of the time. If you want to read about a slice of New York history during the 1970s then you’d probably enjoy this mystery for that reason alone.

It’s fast paced and the dialogue is natural sounding and I felt true to that era. With so many books now set during modern times with its cell phones and all the new gadgetry that can help a sleuth solve the crime, I found this one a refreshing change and will look for more in this series.

Jessie is a successful and well liked reporter in New York, but city life isn’t for her. When an opportunity to move to Blue Cove presents itself, Jessie takes it. I could practically see the stress melting off of Jessie as she drove to Blue Cove and made her dreams of living in a town by the sea a reality. From the moment Jessie arrives in Blue Cove, it becomes clear that it is not as peaceful as it seems. Something sinister is happening in Blue Cove, and Jessie has landed right in the middle of it. Can Jessie use her investigative skills to solve the mystery before she becomes the next target?

I really felt sorry for Jessie. She was looking for a more relaxing lifestyle when she moved to Blue Cove and all she found was trouble. Fortunately, Jessie is a tough woman. Whether it is a ghost seeking justice or a hired thug, Jessie takes everything thrown at her in stride and always remains focused on her mission of discovering the truth. While it is very easy to like Jessie, I do think she is too perfect. Literally everyone in town likes her, except the villains she was attempting to unmask. I understand that some people have magnetic personalities, but I think Jessie would have seemed more real to me if she would have had more flaws.

Jessie’s only flaw seems to be her desire to control everything in her life. Romance wasn’t something she was looking for, and certainly not with Matt, a bossy detective. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of Matt and Jessie’s relationship, or lack thereof. They truly seem to get on each other’s nerves and most of their exchanges end in arguments. In private, they both profess to find the other attractive, but it takes a while for this to become evident in their actions. Even though I would have liked to see more tender interactions between them, I still enjoyed watching them slowly grow into a good couple.

The suspense regarding how and when Jessie and Matt put all the clues together was very well done. Ms. Morrison did an excellent job of revealing the puzzle piece by piece through Jessie’s investigative work. Though Jessie and Matt are both very smart, they almost didn’t solve the mystery before it was too late. I had some suspicions regarding one of the last hidden members of The Harvest Club, but I can honestly say I wasn’t completely sure until the very end.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Harvest Club. The pacing is well done, and Jessie is a smart and sweet heroine. I recommend it to anyone looking for a mystery that alternates effortlessly between being chilling and heartwarming.
