Werewolves in Tyrus Chamberlain’s pack are disappearing. Not having any luck in finding out what’s happening to them on his own, he turns to a security company for help. When Mac Payne arrives, Ty’s shocked that it’s “Mackenzie” instead. He’s hit by instant lust for her, something that hasn’t happened to him since his wife died.

Mackenzie lost her husband three years ago and has no interest in another relationship. Yet the call of the wolf inside her knows Ty is meant for her. She can resist him for only so long until her wolf has to be satisfied. Their passion is explosive, their lovemaking everything they fantasized it could be.

But a killer is still on the loose, threatening more wolves and Mackenzie. Ty will risk everything, even his own life, to protect the members of his pack and the woman he loves.

This book is a page turner for sure ! I definitely enjoyed every minute of it, and even better was realizing that it’s part of a series.

Taste Of Bliss is the second book in the Moon’s Magic Series. I missed the first book but this one worked fine as a stand alone story all by itself. It had everything needed to keep this reader happy.

The plot had a great set-up with a bit of mystery involving the missing pack members. Alpha Ty Chamberlain has a big problem. His pack members are disappearing at an allarming rate. He reaches out to an old friend (I am assuming that Jay and Roni are from the first book) who puts him in touch with a security expert. It is to Ty’s surprise that Mac Payne turns out to be a very attractive female wolf. She also happens to be his mate.

There was so much that I liked about this book. First of all, Ty and Mac have that instant chemistry that seems to be a mainstay for shifter romances, but it’s a bit different for them. They had so much in common but they fought it because they’ve both loved and lost their mates in the past. So they have some conflicted feelings and guilt about moving on with someone else. There was lots of angsty drama and loads of sexual tension for these two. Then there was the mystery part. It had a surprise twist at the end that came out of nowhere. To tell you the truth, I never saw it coming. It was very well done by this sneaky author.

Now while I enjoyed all of the events that took place, It was all of the fascinating characters that really captured my interest. Ty was an utterly swoon worthy alpha. Irritating ? Why Yes, he was that. Jealous and possessive ? You know it. Sinfully delicious ? Absolutely ! Mac was strong. She was excatly the kind of heroine I like to read about. I liked how she took charge in a certain situation. It was exciting to see the heroine do that for a change. There was an intriguing cast of secondary characters that I assume will be getting stories of their own. At least I hope so, since I was especially taken with Shade.

I would say that this book was very well written. It had a strong, interesting plot that flowed at a fast pace. It captured and held my interest right up until it ended with a stunning climax. What more could I wish for ? A longer book maybe, since I hated to see it end.

All in all, this was a good read. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next book in the series.

This scene takes place at the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department annual summer picnic.

An impromptu softball game had started, and Ben could see that both their kids, Gina and Tom, were playing. He could also see that the division chiefs were supervising.

“Wait here,” Elena said, walking over to the softball diamond. Ben watched the sway of her lush hips while trying to calm his mind. An uncomfortable silence fell between the two men as she talked with a couple of the parents.

She came back and reported, “We’re golden for at least two hours. Detective Ramos and her husband said that they’d watch the kids until four.” She looked from face to face, grinning. “So how about it?”

Ben shifted from one foot to the other. The idea of sharing Elena still bothered him, but this was Jake, who’d been his friend for years. They’d partnered when Polly was alive—after she’d been shot, Ben had taken a leave of absence and Jake had been reassigned. Otherwise they’d still be partners, he reckoned. They’d always gotten along. But they’d never shared the same woman. The closest they’d come to something like that was going to the same titty bar.

He eyed Jake, then Elena. They wore identical shit-eating grins.

“Okay, I guess. What do we do first?”

“My house is closest,” Elena said, laughing. She bounced across the lawn to Jake’s car, hips swinging, tits jumping, hair flying. Sexual energy jumped off her like popcorn in a microwave.

The men followed at a slower pace. Jake asked Ben, “Does she happen to be on the Pill?”

“Oh, yeah. Nothing to worry about.”

Jake closed his eyes and looked ecstatic. “Have I died and gone to heaven?”

Ben laughed. “Maybe. Uh, by the way, I know you see a lot of women… Have you been tested lately?”

“Oh, for sure. I test regularly. Nothing to worry about over here.”

After opening the passenger side door for Elena, Jake jumped into the driver’s seat without bothering to open the driver’s door of the convertible. He peeled out of the parking lot with a screech of tires. Ben slouched in the back seat. “Jeez, keep it quieter. Do you want the entire sheriff’s department knowing what we’re doing?”

“Who cares?” Elena asked breezily.

“If anything, they’re envious. What would you rather be doing—playing softball or fucking the sexiest woman in Sacramento?” Jake asked.

Elena grinned at Jake, acknowledging the compliment, then turned to shift her attention to Ben. “I’m gonna bang your brains out, big boy. You’re gonna regret you ever broke up with me, and one other thing…” She leaned closer. “You’re never gonna do it again.”

Ben felt his eyes widen. This sounded dangerously close to commitment.

She leaned back. “Not until I say so. It ain’t over until I say it’s over. Get the picture?”

Jake whistled through his teeth as he parked outside Elena’s cottage. “The lady’s getting feisty.”

She got out of the car and Ben quickly followed, taking the opportunity to slap Elena’s rump. “Yeah, and I know just what to do about that.”

She giggled as she ran up the path, jumped over the stairs to the porch and unlocked the door.
Inside, the cottage was unlit and dim. Ben grabbed her and hustled her into her bedroom while Jake followed. Once there, both men started ripping at her clothes. Jake knelt to unbutton her denim shorts while Ben pulled her tie-dyed T-shirt over her head, revealing a leopard-print bra. He deftly unsnapped the center catch, and her breasts bounced free. Her big, dark areolas crinkled in the cottage’s cooler air, the nipples pointing.

He tumbled her onto the bed and nested his face between her lush mounds, feeling as though he’d been away from home for a long, long time. Too damn long, and at that moment he knew with certainty that he had to do something…anything…everything to keep Elena in his life.

suz EC Gypsy Witch (2)The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department is no place for airy-fairy wimps, and Ben McCullough is the toughest of the tough. He tells himself he’s bedding luscious Elena Lautari only because she’s a babe, not because she’s a card-carrying member of the Northern California Church of Wicca. Ben thinks she’s a feather away from an arrest for fraud, since she makes a living telling fortunes and making charms for the lovelorn. He can’t see her as a lifelong mate even though she’s more than a match for him in the sack, and losing her is unthinkable.

But Elena is the real deal, a modern witch of much power and even more restraint. When her daughter, Gina, steals her mother’s spell book and uses it to shatter the fabric of existence and release an ancient evil, Elena must put reality back in place—even if she loses Ben in the process.

Will Ben and Elena’s fragile love be lost with the revelation of her magic?

Maybe, but there are others ready to heal her battered heart. When Ben’s partner attempts to claim Elena, will Ben move aside or move in?

Sandcastles of Love

Many readers have commented on the settings in my books, often centered on the Oregon Coast or the Puget Sound area in western Washington. But why these beach settings? Why do they evoke strong memories that fuel my writing?

I grew up near Edmonds, north of Seattle. Many decades earlier, Edmonds began its existence as a logging town. Now this “friendliest town in Washington” boasts luxurious condos with sweeping views of the Sound, unique gift shops and boutiques, antique stores, and scrumptious bakeries–just to name a few. In summertime and early fall, colorful hanging flower baskets adorn the main streets, giving the town a festive, European ambience.

I remember as a small girl scouring the beach in Edmonds for shiny small rocks and shells, and the soft plopping sounds as I dropped each shell into my plastic bucket. Even broken shells would do! I remember the relatives who visited every summer without fail from the Midwest. They loved riding the ferry, even if it were only to the opposite shore and back. Often in the early evening, the women packed up a casserole, a simple salad, and beverages to tote to the beach where we’d spread out our feast onto wind-worn picnic tables. My dad would join us once he returned from work. There we’d eat, laugh, talk and gaze at the gentle waves lapping the shore. We could also see the lines of vehicles waiting to board the green and white ferries.

I also recall my early teen years when my girlfriends and I’d walk to the beach during summertime. We’d spread out blankets, slather on cocoa butter, bake under the sun, and look for cute guys. With a briny breeze against our faces, the warmth radiating up from the sand, and the occasional wail of a train that rode the rails paralleling the beach, we were happy Beach Bums for the day. Later during high school, our crowd I often drove to the beach on warm summer evenings. We built beach fires that scented the air with the salty smell of driftwood. We strolled barefoot, feeling the gritty sand between our toes. Later we huddled around the fire to toast marshmallows and solve the world’s problems–or so we thought.

So what about you? What type of environment awakens your senses and makes you feel alive and inspired? It might be a trail through a majestic Old Growth forest in the mountains, the high desert with its endless miles of tan sculpted hills, a ranching community nestled into a lush green valley, or a beach where, like me, you can commune with the seagulls.

Voeller-Sandcastles400x600 (2)When Logan Becker’s family embarks on a summer “house swapping” vacation in a beach town in Oregon, Logan is overjoyed. Similarly, Tricia Merrit, the daughter of the other family, is thrilled to be in the farm belt of Minnesota.

Logan falls in love with the beach boy surfer of her dreams, but soon she discovers he’s Tricia’s boyfriend. Logan’s dreams are shattered. Meanwhile, there’s another boy who is attracted to Logan—the totally uncool Grant Duncan who is busy trying to launch a campaign to clean the local beaches. Can Logan come to realize that true love often reveals itself in unexpected ways?

After meeting the beautiful Rosenya Neboyia, Jacob feels he may have found what he’d been searching for. But with this meeting is the discovery that his dreams come with a responsibility, and that responsibility is bigger and scarier than he could have ever imagined …

The opening of this book pulled me in with its car crash and Agatha stealing a baby. I had hoped that the mystery behind her taking the only survivor would continue more but in the next chapter the baby’s all grown up and called Jacob.

I won’t give too much of the plot away but Jacob and a co-worker go and work in the US and it’s there that the mystery starts to unravel. Jacob’s had visions his entire life and it’s at his new destination that he learns of their meaning and the significance to him.

Ms. James did a great job with the setting. I could visualize this part of the US and Jacob’s road trip. It seemed like she’d done lots of research not only on the area but Native American culture and tradition too which made the book enjoyable.

There are a cast of characters all nicely drawn, and of course a romance that Jacob hints about early on in the story. The dialogue is natural sounding and at 157 pages the story moves nicely especially if you’re looking for something to read in two or three sittings.

If you’re eager to find a book with a little suspense, enjoy books set in the Southwest and love learning about other cultures along with your fiction, this might be a good pick for you.

Will is an easy guy to like. His empathy for other people reveals itself fairly quickly, but what I really appreciated about him is what a well-rounded character he is. He has realistic strengths and weaknesses that interact with the plot in ways that I often didn’t see coming ahead of time. I had a good time getting to know him, and I’d be interested in reading more stories about him in the future.

There were a few pacing issues in the beginning that threatened to distract me from the plot. A surprising amount of time was spent describing Will’s family and school. I enjoyed seeing what his daily life was like before he received this peculiar assignment, but this tale would have easily earned a much higher rating if some of that exposition had happened within more action-packed chapters. Eventually I did get drawn into Will’s world, but the slow beginning was a bit of deterrent for me at first.

I had an inkling that this book might be funny, but I wasn’t expecting to enjoy its zany sense of humor as much as I did. The supporting characters were just as flamboyant as I’d expect from beings who work for a magical wish fulfilment company, but the creative, little details about their costumes and physical appearances that the author made sure to point out to the reader were what really endeared me to them. Imagining exactly what each one of them looked like was effortless.

Whether you’re a kid or a kid-at-heart, Wishing Will is a good choice for anyone in the mood for something lighthearted.

This is a fast-paced historical crime novel with an engaging detective. There is no mystery about who the villain is, but there is a great deal of suspense involved in bringing the villain to justice. Toby has to fight crooked cops and brutal body guards. His only ally is Ruth Callahan, who runs the local newspaper. I really liked Ruth, a very savvy reporter who is eager to help Toby. Between them, they uncover a lot of clues, but they lack evidence which will nail any but the small fry.

The setting for the story feels authentic, and it has obviously been well-researched. I really felt as if I were back in the immediate post-WWII era, and the information about the Americans of Japanese descent who were interred during the war is handled well.

As the case progresses, there is a lot of re-hashing of the information that has been gathered. This does allow Toby and Ruth to process the information and come up with more ideas about how to proceed, but I could have done with a bit less of the going over of information.

The action never lets up. Toby has to work hard to stay ahead of the bad guys, switching cars, moving several times, and so forth. Several times is looks as if there is no way out for Toby so I was kept on the edge of my seat. I found it hard to put the book down, so I ended up reading it in one sitting.

Readers of historical crime fiction are sure to enjoy helping Toby match wits with the villains and I certainly plan to read more in this series.

Everyone is capable of doing things that may not be ethical, but not everyone is willing to admit when they’ve crossed that line.

Mr. Frankel pulled me into the plot through the use of one of the most exciting opening scenes I’ve read in a long time. Imagine two homeless men suddenly coming across something incredibly strange in the fetid, garbage-strewn alley they call home. It was most definitely not the introduction to this tale I was expecting. Not knowing what was happening made me eager to find out more.

I would have liked to see more character development, especially when it came to Harry. He experienced a few different traumatic events growing up that never quite had as much of an affect on his personality as I would have expected. His dazed reaction was completely understandable in the beginning, but this book would have easily earned a higher rating had the author spent more time exploring what happens when Harry’s numbness wears off. It would have been especially interesting to see which, if any, of his negative personality traits stem from this emotional paralysis.

Strong pacing from beginning to end made it hard for me to put this story down. I really liked how the author embedded crucial clues about Anastasia’s background into scenes that also had a lot of other exciting stuff going on in them. At times it felt like I was watching an action movie instead of reading a book. This was a smart approach for such an action-heavy plot.

Catnip is one of the most adrenaline-inducing tales I’ve read so far in 2014. This is a good choice for anyone who likes being perched on the edge of their seat in anticipation of what might happen next for 200+ pages.

I like this series that I discovered by accident and it might have something to do with it being populated with were-turtles and were-Corgis. In this case it’s a tiny fox and a very big bear that take center stage and it’s a fascinating dynamic.

What I liked best about this novel is the mystery of the missing girls. It’s a great backdrop to the main event, which is the romance between Crag and Violet. Both of the main characters are young and that comes through pretty clear, yet they are not stupid young. One has a debt that has to be repaid and the other has emotional issues. They are engaging internal conflicts that somehow get mixed up with the external conflict.

I liked Crag a/k/a Ash. I liked getting to know him and learning to understand that he’s a man trapped by evil design. He had thoughts about someday breaking free but didn’t have much hope until he met Violet. It’s her influence that brought out the best part of him and it was really fascinating how it finally came about.

As for Violet, I liked the interplay between her and her best friend, Henry. They were cute together. And when Violet faced the truth of her feelings for Ash, it was special.

Also, there is a reference to Izzy and Erik which were the main characters from the first book in the series where all the initial world building took place. Even though Baring It All is mostly a standalone read, readers might be curious as to why Izzy and Erik are even part of this current story. Well, Erik is the mayor and the alpha, so he is going to be involved in whatever goes on with the residents of his town. I think Ms. Red provided enough background to make a reader understand why Erik is playing a role but didn’t bog this current novel down with any detailed backstory. This tale is truly about Ash and Violet with everyone else acting as supportive cast. It’s all good.

The villain is whacked. On one hand, I thought that it might turn out to be like the first book – a villain, yet not. Not this time. There truly was danger and mayhem and a bit of twisted evil to deal with so it was a pleasant surprise. This story was not a carbon copy of its predecessor. The other villain’s comeuppance sort of confused me. I’m not too sure how Atlas ended up with him or how he managed to get the upper hand; that was weird. Actually it was a bit of twisted funny too so I’m waffling about its effect on me.

I also can’t understand why something that was a clear and present danger was never addressed for so long. I also didn’t get the step-daughter – was she really that clueless? I am very glad that the mystery and the drama and suspense were wrapped up in a satisfactory manner but I truly didn’t understand the value of some of the revelations or actions of a couple of the secondary characters. I think I must have missed something.

The one thing that was very clear and wonderfully easy to understand was the love that was growing between Violet and Ash. I think the major clue was that they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. I really liked the fact that he chased her and he was completely serious about it. When they did get together, I can assure erotic romance fans that they will find their encounters very satisfactory indeed. The happy ever after was rather hot too.

On the whole, Baring It All was greatly entertaining and fun. I liked the characters, the storyline and the delivery. I laughed and shook my head at how the author so easily tossed about all the different kinds of were-beings that populated the town because it made it sound like such a fun place. There’s so much more to explore and experience in this world Ms. Red has built and I can’t wait to visit again.

Bennett Truitt just wants his dad to be proud of him, even though his father only seems to be proud and respect things that are less than traditional. He wants to tear down the old strip club that his father owns and used to dance at, that led to a lot of embarrassment for a young Bennett, so he has no love for the club. So he hires a woman he meets at that club, after she yells at the bartender.

Tatum wants to be a professional dancer, it’s what she’s trained for her whole life, but when she gets her latest rejection letter, her roommate drags her to Iron Rods, which has definitely seen better days. I love Tatum because she does something crazy and jumps into being Iron Rods new manager with both feet.

The best part of this story was the richness in which Ms. Zinn describes Austin, Texas. I found myself wanting to visit Austin so I could fall in love with the town that the author describes so well.

Bennett changes a lot over the story, and while I understood and liked him well enough in the beginning but I really loved him by the end of the story. I enjoyed that Tatum and the town of Austin brought out a new side of Bennett. I definitely recommend this story and look forward to meeting the dancers of Iron Rods and reading their stories.

She’s a woman with a secret

Elizabeth Wainwright is on the run. Accused of a murder she didn’t commit, she has no choice but to cut ties with her old life and flee West. The last thing she wants is attention, but when her stagecoach is attacked, she suddenly finds herself under the fierce protection of one of Montana’s famed vigilantes . . . whether she likes it or not.

Lawman Mitch Brady is sworn to uphold justice in the wild lands of 1860s Montana. He’s never met a man he’s feared, and he’s never met a woman more desperately in need of his help. Something’s shaken the secretive Elizabeth, but as he gets to know the beautiful city belle, he finds the only thing he wants more than her safety . . . is her trust.

She’s just eighteen and she’s already running from a man…

Ms. Bittner writes a mean western. She is historically accurate (she must have had a gunslinger in her family!) and she believes in true love. Those combinations add up to a good read. I’m going to have to go find some more of her work.

Elizabeth Wainright is going as far as she can away from her stepfather. He killed her mother and lusts after the gem filled necklace heirloom and the girl herself. She can’t stop him from taking what he wants if she stays, but she can run with the necklace and she does. She never anticipated getting caught in a stagecoach robbery. She also has no experience with the bad men of the west. She grew up in New York and that’s a long way from Montana. It doesn’t take her long to realize just what they want to do to her. All the men on the stage are dead and she’s there all alone. While she’s anticipating the worst, someone shows up to her rescue. He looks like an outlaw himself and she’s not sure that she’s in a better situation. However, he informs her he’s the local lawman. He also asks her if she’s a whore…

It doesn’t get better in town. It’s a town with few women and lots of men. Elizabeth knows she’s attractive, but she never drew much notice in New York. Here, she’s the main attraction. It’s a good thing she has the sheriff for a bodyguard.

This is a busy tale of men out for revenge as well as a story of love. Sheriff Mitch Brady falls in love with her and her with him. Her stepfather is still coming after her. He wants the necklace and plans to kill her. The wife of one of the men hanged by the sheriff is coming after him along with her ranch hands. It’s a rough world out there in early Montana.

I enjoyed the story and worried about the main characters. This author has a talent for drawing you into the story and keeping you there. I like that; it makes the book more worth reading. Now to find some more by her…
