Something evil dwells in and around Sandy Creek. There have been numerous sightings of a Creature that remains a mystery in the unsuspecting town located along the Gulf Coast. Murders, attacks as well as odd mishaps all take place within the Sandy Creek area. Preston, his girlfriend Shayne, his best friend Aaron and Kimberly will encounter something beyond their wildest imaginations. Nothing could ever prepare them for what they find. The answer is within the truth, but the truth may not exactly set them free.

Few things are stronger than the bond between siblings. Little does Preston know just how far his love for his sister is about to take him, though.

The author’s vivid descriptions of the setting made me feel as if I were wandering around Sandy Creek alongside Preston and his companions as they attempt to figure out what really happened to his sister. Every sense other than taste is invoked as what should be a peaceful body of water gradually reveals its dark underbelly. My favourite scenes involve the protagonist’s exploration of this area due to how easy it is to mentally picture exactly what he is experiencing.

I got to know Preston very well during the course of his tale, but it was harder to figure out the personalities of the people around him. Each one is given a brief introduction, but had their names not been included in later scenes it would have been difficult for me to know who was speaking based on what they said or how they react to everything that happens to them. Preston has a well-defined personality that affects every decision he makes. The secondary characters do not seem to share this same advantage.

As soon as the mystery presents itself in the first chapter I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next. The author’s use of a well-paced plot as well as her decision to begin a little later in the timeline than I was expecting kept me on my toes. While the cast of characters is about the size I would expect for a novel this length, I was also surprised by how quickly many of them are introduced in the first few chapters.

There is also a lot of telling instead of showing in this book. Preston’s reaction to his sister’s disappearance felt genuine to this reader, but many other emotions, character traits, and clues about what is really happening are released in a sentence or two instead of being allowed to gradually seep through body language or dialogue.

The ending redeemed many of my concerns about earlier chapters. It wasn’t something I saw coming until right before it happens and I was impressed that the author was able to keep me guessing for well over 200 pages. If this is any indication of Ms. Ward’s writing ability, I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next!

Sandy Creek is a solid mystery that I would recommend to anyone in the mood for a challenge.

All work and no play makes life boring…unless there’s a dollop of whipped cream and a studded paddle involved. Then it’s all fun.

Roxy loves her job at the Delight Tonight restaurant, but she longs for more. She’d rather find employment using her accounting skills. Her boss, Sean, has mentioned he’s interested in bringing her on as an accountant. Can she keep her wits about her or will she cave in to the blossoming feelings she has for him?

Will getting her into his bed translate into a love to last forever, or a lust and chocolate-filled disaster?

Roxy works at the Delight Tonight and has a serious crush on one of her bosses, Sean Malkin. Despite the fact she’s a server, she has hopes to one day use her degree in accounting and start working the books. When her other boss, Elias, calls her over, Roxy is hoping this is her big break. What she actually gets asked is to be involved in some nyotaimori for Sean’s birthday party – to be a naked, human serving platter and have food eaten from her bare skin. Although she’s done this before, Roxy has her doubts. But when Elias tempts her with the knowledge Sean has a thing for her, she can’t resist.

This smoking story takes BDSM and food play into a new direction. While I was reading it I wondered why on earth more people hadn’t done this style of sensual play in writing more often. I have actually read of naked human food platters before – but only the once – and coming across it again I found it just as sensual and intriguing as the first time. If a smoking hot man licking frosting, whipped cream or honey off your skin doesn’t do much for you, then this might be a book to miss, but I loved the different slant on a BDSM power play. The build up between Sean and Roxy was deliciously paced and had me turning the pages quickly.

I also really enjoyed how for a change Roxy didn’t fall all over herself to keep Sean in her bed. After their initial party, both Roxy and Sean take some time to reflect and make certain of themselves. This added an element of realism that as a reader I really appreciated. This wasn’t some fantasy “after sex they’re dedicated for life” style of plot, but each had to work to make the relationship viable. I also really liked how Sean isn’t perfect – he has issues and baggage and both he and Roxy need to work through their problems to make their relationship work. It was refreshing to not just have a few hot sex scenes strung together with a thin plot, but for the characters to actually have problems that needed discussion and resolving.

Smoking hot with some BDSM and food play, this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I found it addictive. The characters are well drawn and realistic, and the chemistry between them is enough to singe you. I really enjoyed this story and would happily read more by this author.

She’ll never run.

Among the tiger shifters, Alexis Tarasova is regarded as fierce and dangerous, with a reputation that would make even the most daring tiger think twice about challenging her. Female tiger shifters may be rare and the mating run a critical part of their species’s survival, but Alexis is the only female Tracker and will not back down, even at the threat of tiger law. She will not be forced to mate. So when a handful of males band together to force her to participate in the run, Alexis chooses to stand her ground and fight instead.

He’s forbidden to run.

Outcast from the tiger shifters after a vicious childhood attack left him mute, Victor Romanov has never taken part in the mate run. He’s never particularly cared, though, since the woman he loves refuses to take a mate. However, when he learns Alexis may be in danger, all bets are off. Nothing will keep him from her side.

Together, they’re unmovable.

The chemistry between them burns wickedly hot and forges them into an unbeatable pair. Alexis knows that being with Victor means she will have to break another one of her people’s laws—a move that might push the tigers too far. But, for Victor, she will risk everything, including her life, and do what she thought she’d never do—run.

Looking for a sexy story with a couple tough, sexy shifters? Once Upon a Tiger might just be a great choice!

Alexis was promised she’d never have to “run” … due to a decline in population, all female shifters are required to mate, and the preface to this is running from males until one catches you, at which point you have sex and if you get pregnant you can either stay together or not. But ultimately, the idea is, of course, that all females bear offspring.

Due to a series of events, Alexis became a tracker and was supposed to be exempt from the mating run. This is a good thing since she’s crazy about a male who isn’t allowed to run, Victor, and can’t imagine being with anyone else. But then one day she discovers her exemption has been lifted. She’s surrounded by randy males who are determined to make her run. She’s equally determined to hold her ground, even if it means killing someone.

I liked Alexis and could certainly feel for her. Who wants to be forced to mate with someone you don’t care for, especially when the man … er… tiger of your dreams is right nearby? The author creates a series of events that forces the hands of Victor and Alexis, after years of dancing around each other believing they would never be allowed to be together. Once they throw caution to the wind and indulge in some time between the sheets, all bets are off. Neither one of them is willing to give up what they have.

The villains here aren’t really villains. The other males are just doing what they’re expected and allowed to do. Still, they’re believable antagonists and integral to the story. So, though the conflict might not have been as strong or worrisome as it could have been, it worked for me.

Victor’s backstory broke my heart. What an amazing guy! No wonder Alexis was mad for him. He’s strong, thoughtful, caring and has an amazing heart. Oh, and I shouldn’t forget that he definitely knows how to please his woman! Though the sex was pretty vanilla for an erotic romance, it still got my heart racing. Yum!

I was surprised at how much story Ms. Simons was able to fit into so few pages, and I’m hoping this is the start of something bigger. I’d sure like to see more of this crew. Well done!

Susan’s friends drag her to a Montana guest ranch to celebrate her fortieth birthday and take her mind off her woes—her boyfriend has left her for a younger woman and her job is about to dissolve. The birthday fireworks they set off light up more than the night. It’s Susan Klein’s fortieth birthday, and her three best friends have been given a fortnight’s holiday at a Montana ranch as a special present. The four ladies are expecting to rest, breathe in pure, fresh air and hopefully get an eyeful of some handsome cowboys. Despite the wonderful present, Susan is quite touchy about the “big Four Oh” birthday and her friends enjoy gently teasing her about it. After her birthday dinner the four girls go down the street a little to set off some fire crackers. But things go awry when the fire spreads further than anticipated. A very angry cowboy confronts the ladies, and Susan finds there’s more than one way to play with fire.

This is a wonderfully character-driven story. I really enjoyed how Susan had her best friends with her – they made a strong and interesting secondary cast and added significantly to the storyline. The author also paced the plot quite well. I was easily led from being introduced to Susan and her situation, to the ranch and the cowboy brothers who split the land and work it. While people who want to read a fast-paced go-go-go book might find it slow, I actually enjoyed taking my time. The gradual unfurling of the plot meant instead of being bombarded by a hectic pace I could really relax and savour the characters and the story woven around them. While there’s nothing overly new to the plot it still read as fresh to me – mostly due to the fact I was hooked on Susan, Wyatt and the other characters’ lives and actions. I was a little disappointed with how stubborn Susan could be – and close-minded to the possibilities of a relationship with Wyatt – but have to admit it added a good amount of conflict and tension into the plot and also kept Wyatt honest and on his toes.

Readers wanting a more traditional cowboy-style romance might be a little disappointed. While Andy and Wyatt are genuine cowboys, they’ve mostly embraced the modern age. There’s plenty of horseback riding – but the women also manage to white water raft, rappel and fly fish, giving the feel of the book a bigger feel than simply staying on a dude ranch with dusty cowboys, horses and cows alone. I enjoyed this greater depth to the story, but must admit it did detract from the “dusty, open planed cowboy” feel of the story that I was expecting. I also would have liked a little more details into why Susan felt such an immediate, electrical attraction to Wyatt. As they got to know each other the level of chemistry between them showed clearly just how attracted they both were to each other, but initially I had trouble understanding why, exactly, Susan felt so connected to him when there was nothing more than her physical reaction to go on.

I found this to be a wonderful story, filled with memorable characters and a secondary cast that was three dimensional and interesting. The pace of this book was slow but steady, and the timing of the plot was expertly applied. A few small niggles can be easily overlooked in my opinion and overall this is a brilliant story and full of warm-hearted moments and characters you can really get into. A lovely story.

Eagle Peak, population 596, has two bars, five churches, and a vibe (or lack thereof) that couldn’t be more different than Sean’s native Minneapolis. Moving to rural small town Minnesota, Sean must leave his life of acting classes, going to all-ages shows, and hanging out with friends, to enter into a world of pep rallies, pick-up trucks and country pop.

Sean’s inclination for heavy eyeliner, black attire, and surly attitude make him an easy target of suspicion, intrigue, and prejudice in the small town of Eagle Peak. But despite Sean’s growing sense of dread and depression, small town Minnesota also offers a lot of firsts: he becomes the love interest of three classmates of which one is a closeted gay boy afraid of his own sexuality, he is surprised to discover and chant with a Buddhist family in town, and he gets in the middle of an abusive father and his town jock son. Sean’s old life of theater, live music, and diverse friends collides with his new life in Eagle Peak, and Sean is left confused about what he thought he knew about small towns, the world he left behind, and himself.

Sean has a definite opinion about what he thinks it will be like to live in the middle of nowhere, but only time will tell if his first impressions of his new home are correct.

Excellent character development made it impossible for me to stop reading. Sean is a well-developed protagonist whose personal strengths and weaknesses reveal themselves almost immediately. What makes Eagle Peak such a great tale, though, is how this development spreads to the secondary characters as well. The author acknowledges certain stereotypes only to turn them upside down just when this reader thought she had everything figured out.

All of the subplots are handled with sensitivity and humor. Ms. Fontaine tackles a lot of tough subjects during the course of Sean’s adjustment to Eagle Peak, but she weaves everything together so deftly that all of the points of conflict feel like natural extensions of the main storyline. My sole criticism of this story involves the way one of the subplots is resolved. Certain parts of it felt a little rushed due to the nature of the problem and how much it affected the character who was figuring it out earlier on in the narrative. This is a minor criticism of an otherwise well put-together plot, though.

It’s difficult to explain what it feels like to live in a small town if you stand out from the crowd in some way, but Ms. Fontaine accurately captures the positives and negatives of belonging to a minority group while living in a rural setting. This is the kind of book I’d heartily recommend to anyone who is curious about this topic.

Eagle Peak is a must-read for anyone who has ever felt out of place. It captures the maelstrom of emotions that accompanies this experience well and is something I will be rereading again soon.

Cindy ‘Cinders’ is a likable character who you connect with straight away as she heads into the fire station to become the department’s sole female on the team. Dave isn’t just the captain of the squad, but Mr. April too. He’s perfectly described by Ms. Houston and you can picture him both on the job and on the pages of the calendar.

I really liked the setting and theme of this story: the workings of a busy station and the sometimes bias women face in what’s usually a male profession. I felt it was well handled and portrayed by the author.

What I would have liked is more of a slow build up to Cindy and Dave’s encounters. Things happen quickly between them and I believe some sexual tension brewing gradually would have added to the heat of some very sexy scenes.

Besides that it’s a realistic read, fact paced, and if you like hunky firefighters and some heat, this might be a good book for you.

Tom Whitehead is a librarian from Iowa who works at the Library of Congress. However, one day, as he is “daydreaming of a lady of his acquaintance,” and thinking about his doctoral research on late Medieval poetry, he suddenly finds himself in the magical kingdom of Carolna. There he makes the acquaintance of a dragon, Retruance Constable, who adopts Tom as his Dragon Companion. Just as Tom starts to learn about this new world, he is called upon to drive invaders out of Murdan the Historian’s castle. Thus begins a wonderful story filled with adventure and intrigue.

The kingdom of Carolna is truly magical, peopled with elves, replete with dragons, and described in rich detail so that I quickly went along with Tom on this marvelous adventure. Tom is the only non-magical person, the only human, in the story and he quickly demonstrates his practical aptitude for solving difficult situations without the use of magic, thus confounding the evil-doers who have warded themselves against magic. They have no defense against Tom.

I like the characters in Dragon Companion. They are fully developed and very real. It is easy to route for Tom, Retruance, Murdan, and others, and I really cared about what happens to them. I held my breathe during the kidnappings. I worried about the king’s unhappy pregnant wife. And I hoped above all else that the villains would be caught.

The pacing is excellent and I was totally caught up in each and every adventure. Readers of fantasy, especially readers who enjoy dragons, will certainly be captivated by this charming and exciting adventure.

Interview and Giveaway with Kelly Wyre

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Kelly Wyre who is celebrating the release of Fight. She wrote the book to get over having her heart broken.

“I wanted to write a book about truth: how we have to work to find our truth and how we have to fight for it. The truth, as they say, is simple, but I believe living by it and living up to it are far more difficult feats,” she explained. “Both Nathan and Fury want to be true to themselves and both men find themselves in circumstances that make that almost impossible.”

She also has a short story coming out from Storm Moon Press in May. She did a novel-length tag-team fiction piece with AF Henley called Vision Quest.

“It will soon be available for free download on Smashwords, Goodreads, and Amazon, good Lord and the little gods of formatting willing,” she told me. “I’m working on the next New Amsterdam novel, a fantasy novel here and there, a series of short stories for a BDSM line, and Henley and I are also doing an ongoing art project called, Eight Turns of Fate . that tells a story via “modern” technology means.”

She’s currently reading The Gift and Second Star to the Right by AF Henley, Doctor Sleep by King, the first in the Kushiel’s series by Carey, the Special Forces Unarmed Combat Manuel, A History of Ballet, The Real Nureyev, and Cloud Atlas. I’m what you might call masochistically addicted to multi-tasking,” she said.

Kelly Wyre is actually a pen name. She told me that when she was a little kid and people would ask her what her name was, she would always say, “Kelly!” Well, since neither her first nor middle name is Kelly, her mother was… bewildered.

“It would just baffle and embarrass the hell out of my poor mother, who had to make up all these excuses for her overly imaginative habitual liar of a child,” she remembered. “So, I figured Kelly would be a good first name, as I’d likely remember to answer to it when called. And ‘Wyre’ is in homage to Anne McAffery’s dragon ‘Weyr:’ meaning, a nest of dragons. And I’d love to tell you some fancy story involving fear of copyright infringement about why I chose to spell it “Wyre” instead of “Weyr” and, thus, forever have to explain that it rhymes with “here” and “beer” and “fear” [the] “spear” but honestly? I think I just misspelled it in the early days, and it stuck. I’m a terrible speller. Sad but true,” she confessed with a laugh.

Kelly works in her office in her house– on the main floor with a view out two windows of the backyard and tract of forest and cow pastures beyond it. The desk is in the middle of the room arranged so that she can see the door.

“I hate working where people can come up behind me or enter a room from behind me. I also face what I call my ‘Inspiro-Wall.’ I hand-painted it in blue-gray, dark blue, and magenta and it’s covered with over 50 framed prints and probably another two dozen or so other random things. I have a music box shaped like an elaborate door handle. When you turn the ‘knob,’ it plays. I have sculpture, art done by artists of my characters, slogan buttons, a sign that has a zombie chasing a farmer on a tractor that reads, ‘EAT LOCALS,’ inspirational sayings, and memorabilia from concerts and travels. And that’s just the one wall. The rest of my office is also decorated, mostly with art and gifts given to me by friends and fans, and I have research books on shelves. I also seem to collect stuffed animals, hats, and weaponry. I have a four-foot stuffed rabbit and a myriad of other fluffy friends, six hats ranging from bowler to pirate, and I have two sets of throwing knives, kendo practice swords, a 20-guage shotgun, (yes, it works, no, not loaded, but, yes, do own the shells), an air pistol, and a hatchet. I consider myself well-prepared for the zombie apocalypse.”

“What do you like to do when you are not writing?” I asked.

“Sleep. Eat ice cream. Watch selected videos involving consenting, naked adults enjoying themselves on various pieces of furniture. Take really long drives and walks. Play games, hang out with friends, watch movies and TV shows, attend the occasional BDSM event, and run naked in the rain. That last one has nothing to do with the next to last one. At least, not yet. What can I say? I’m a cheap, odd, open-minded and occasionally damp date.”

Kelly loves hearing from fans and solicits comments on free works and fanfiction she’s written over the years.

“I also get emails, private messages, notes, and even the occasional gift in the mail. I love hearing from readers and chatting with them. I’ve been warned over and over about being ‘too’ accessible, but sometimes taking risks leads to fantastic moments.

“About three years ago, now, I got a private message from a steady commenter across a multitude of sites. It told me that she was going to be traveling with family through my general part of the country, and she was wondering if they would be getting close enough so she could stop by and say hi. She gave me her phone number, and when I called her, she was beside herself that I’d actually gotten in contact. It turned out she was driving right through my town, so I met her and her family for dinner and coffee. It was absolutely amazing. I gave her a little gift and a copy of the next, then-unpublished, chapter of a free story I was writing, and she gave me artwork that I still have pinned in my office, today.

“Another time, about a year and a half ago, a very close friend who lives in Florida was at a club one night when she runs into these two girls at the bar and strikes up a conversation. They all discover they enjoy anime and the same kind of fiction, and one of the girls looks at my friend and says, ‘Do you know [One of My Pen Names]?’ And, of course, my friend starts to laugh and says, ‘KNOW her? She’s my best friend!’

“Apparently, the girl was overcome with emotion, and my friend has to text me to tell me what’s up. I was out of town, at the time, and had actually thrown my hip out of joint. When I got the messages, I was lying on ice packs in a friend’s living room, so they were an amazing distraction. I call my friend and ask, ‘What’s going on, again?’

“‘[Girl’s name] is here and she’s read all your stuff.’

“‘What’s her online name?’ I ask, and my friend tells me, and I’m absolutely familiar with the girl and her lovely comments. ‘Oh my God, that’s [Girl’s Online Name]! Put her on the phone!’ So the girl and I got to have a very sweet conversation. It made my year.

“One last story about fan interaction… I no longer give out my mailing address, but back in the early days of even less Internet fame than I have now, (heh) I’d exchanged addresses with one of my biggest fans for a particular story. The story was one very near and dear to me, and this particular fan had become an online friend over the course of the story.

“One of the features of the story she and I loved so much were foot-tall, deranged angels who had hanged themselves with nooses and were often seen tearing off their own wings. (By the way? I also write horror. And now you know.) Well, one average Wednesday, I get a knock at the door and a package delivered. I cut open the box and inside it are dozens and dozens of origami angels made out of black paper. It must have taken her hours, but I had this gorgeous representation of the story. It was just… so cool. I still have one of the angels in my office.

“Obviously, I’ve been very lucky with my one-on-one fan time. I have to more careful, now, unfortunately, but I still try to answer emails, messages, and notes.”

“What is one thing your readers would be most surprised to learn about you?” I wondered.

“I’m not sure I can speak to what most people would find surprising, but I can tell you a few things that people have told me did, in point of fact, shock them. I’m married. To a man. (The latter seems to come as somewhat of a shock to certain individuals; but that’s okay. My friends inform me that I never a member of straight society.) I’m small in stature, but I have huge feet. Centipedes and things to do with eyeballs squick me right out. I have OCD and a memory like a steel trap. Which means I’m the really irritating person who remembers you wore the purple dress with the black flats six years ago to the Christmas party at Danny’s house, and we talked about France and average penis size when you had one glass to many of red wine. I try to curb this and keep details to myself, with greater and lesser degrees of success that are directly proportional to the amount of gin I’ve consumed.”

I asked her about the weirdest thing she’s ever done in the name of research and she shared this story with me (put your coffee down now… just a word of warning).

I don’t know if it’s the weirdest, but it’s one of the funniest. I was writing a series of short stories for an online writing contest, and I had to do the writing after the day-job. So, it’s late at night, I’m worn out and brain-numb, and I have to write this intricate physical moment between my two main characters: a small (nonhuman) female slams a poor, unsuspecting bartender against a wall and pins him. I kept trying to envision it in my head, but I couldn’t quite tell if it worked, and so, without thinking, I stalk out of my office, walk across the length of the house, and find my husband brushing his teeth in our bathroom.

“Borrow you for a minute,” I mutter, not making it a question.

I then proceed to put an arm across his throat and pin one of his hands at his side with my knee.

“Can we talk about this?” He asks around the brush, and I don’t bother to answer, completely focused on what I need for the story. I make a couple of adjustments, mumbling as I go, and then abruptly set my husband free.

“Thanks,” I remember to say, halfway out of the bedroom.

My husband pokes his head out the bedroom door, toothbrush in hand and mouth covered with foam, and he says, “Feel free to use me for your nefarious needs anytime, sweetie!”

A tolerant saint, that one.

“That which can be destroyed by the truth, should be.”

3_24 KellyWyre_Fight_coverlgTo Nathan Hunt, honesty is anything but the best policy. Telling the truth has gotten him nothing but heartache and pain; so lying about who he is and what he wants seems to be the only path to job security and friends. Hell, it even brings him a hollow kind of happiness.

Except, that’s not much of a life for any man. Especially one with Nathan’s passions. Desperate to cure his self-made misery, Nathan agrees to go along with a con that will score cash for Nathan to start over. There’s just one problem: lying is getting harder by the day. And a con who can’t lie, is a con who gets caught.

Nathan’s attempts to distract himself from his moral quandary lead him to a mysterious, intoxicating man named Fury. The Mixed Martial Arts fighter knows a thing or two about lies and pasts better left buried. He and Nathan have something else in common – they both want to be with someone who lets them be themselves.

Together, they undertake a journey that proves honesty is more dangerous and more difficult than either of them could have imagined. And as they combat addiction, thugs, guns, and their own inner demons, Nathan and Fury can only hope that their battle to be together will be worth the bitter fight.

This little volume, part of a larger series, plunks the reader smack dab in the middle of the action. I had to keep scrolling back to see if I had missed a chapter. But, that’s the price you pay when you pick up a series, especially a series of novellas, and don’t start at the beginning. It reminds me in a way of the old-time serials. However, it does not end with a cliff-hanger, but a nice segue into the next book in the series.

It didn’t take me long to sort things out, however, and even though I would love to read the earlier books to find out more about the over arcing conflict, the book was enjoyable as a read-alone. The characters are well drawn and likeable (I especially like Sally, the spine cat).

I will definitely be downloading the rest of the series to add to my ever growing TBR pile! Good job, Ms. Burkhart.

Herefordshire, England 1643

As the English Civil War divides England and tears families apart, Kinton Lacey castle is one of the brave few loyal to the roundhead cause.

With her father away, Deliverance Felton will do whatever it takes to defend her family home against the royalist forces ranged against it. She can shoot and wield a sword as well as any man and anything she needs to know about siege warfare she has learned from a book…but no book can prepare her for what is to come.

Captain Luke Collyer, soldier of fortune and a man with his own reasons for loyalty to the parliamentary cause, is sent to relieve the castle. Everything he knows about siege warfare in general and women in particular he has learned from experience, but when it comes to Deliverance Felton has he met his match?

Deliverance will not give up her command lightly and Luke will have to face a challenge to his authority as fierce as the cavalier foe outside the walls. He will do whatever it takes to win Deliverance’s trust but will he run the risk of losing his own, well guarded, heart?

I found this bit of history in the making fascinating and I really loved the people involved. The King’s men against the rebels reminded me very much of our own American Revolution with our rebels against the King.

Deliverance and her sister, Patience lived in a castle which was under attack by the King’s men. Captain Luck Collyer is sent by their father to help protect them. They are so outnumbered I could not imagine how they could possibly manage to defeat the enemy. They are, however, prepared to fight to the death against all odds.

This is not, however, a depressing story. It is full of fun and conflict between Luke and Deliverance. She had been in charge of the castle and was not willing to give it up to him. I loved the interaction between them. It is wonderful, fun and unique. She was not the typical mousy woman that he had expected to find. I smiled a lot while reading about the conflict between them, and even laughed out loud a couple of times.

Throughout the siege there are two beautiful love stories. Yes two, although one is not mentioned as often. I enjoyed them both. There is also a lot of fighting, death and destruction from the very beginning, which is to be expected. However, all the fighting is important to the story line, and not just thrown in to explain the war. This author also lets you feel the hope for the future in the story.

This story doesn’t end the way I expected — it ends even better! Honestly, I loved this story.
