Professional bull rider Conner Raub is a Dom yet he keeps this a secret from his fans and fellow riders. He just can’t see how he’ll ever be able to mix the two entities of his life and be able to live the BDSM lifestyle he craves.  Jessica Talbot is new to BDSM scene but she’s curious and keen to learn more and she thinks that Conner might just be the man to show her the ropes! If only she can get his attention, get him to agree to the plan.

Ms Carr never fails to hit the spot and this well-written, angst and sex-fuelled plot is character driven and fully rounded. I liked how Impact ‘hit the ground running’ with the first scenes in the BDSM club. It was tense and very real and I adored initially meeting Conner through Jessica’s eyes.

The story is told from both points of view which does work well for the genre. I enjoyed the bull riding elements, it was just enough to set the scene and help me visualize Conner yet didn’t overtake the story. Jessica was a likeable heroine and I was rooting for her to get together with Conner, not just for some serious hotness but for a HEA. Hey, the girl deserved it big time!

You could do much worse than pick up Impact if you are looking for a BDSM story that’s professionally delivered and ticks all the boxes in and out of the bedroom. I’ll certainly be seeking out more of the Buckin’ Bull Riders series.

It was hard to concentrate on walking with Mark in such close proximity. His face was so striking, with perfect masculine features, a strong chin, and broad nose. He had to be Italian. His dark hair was short and styled with a sexy “just got out of bed” look. His eyes matched his hair color and Stephanie was rattled when they met hers. His good looks made her so nervous she stumbled over the threshold. He was quick to catch her arm to help steady her. She was embarrassed beyond measure and tried to laugh it off, making small talk about the history of the house, though he seemed more interested in her than the things she was saying. Mark stared at her and it was unnerving. Self-conscious, she rubbed her fingers through her long hair afraid something was out of place. Why did he look at her like that? He smiled and blushed when she asked if he wanted to go upstairs. She told herself not to read too much into it and led him to his bedroom.

Evil is stalking the citizens of Dark Forest. Now it’s up to a red-hooded woman and the werewolf determined to make her his mate to track down the killer before he strikes again. Dark Forest is author Emma Weylin’s sexy retelling of a classic fairy tale. Sometimes, even the big bad wolf can be oh-so-good!

Rose Merrin is attracted to the one man in Dark Forest suspected of murder. Self-preservation and the townsfolk’s eagle eyes keep her from knowing his touch, even when everything about him calls to her. But when another murder shocks Dark Forest, and a girl who could be her sister disappears, her life becomes dependent on the one man no one trusts.

Aiden Hyde holds a dark secret. Proving his innocence would reveal his werewolf heritage. When a new werewolf in town sets his sights on Rose, he has no choice but to step in and protect his mate—whether she knows it or not.

I was in the mood for a quick romance and a little paranormal hijinks and what I found was a fantastic, fast moving, well rounded short story. I don’t know how Ms. Weylin fit everything in, but I think it’s because she focused on what makes a story work. It was the fastest hour of my day.

Dark Forest introduced a typical werewolf story with some unusual elements. It hinges on how the author created her hero, Aiden. I liked the level of angst that plagued him, how he accepted his role in the town and how he always tried to do the right thing – even if it cost him his happiness.

I also enjoyed the manipulations of a loving grandmother towards her granddaughter, Rose. If I’m not mistaken, it sounded as though the heroine, Rose, has some OCD issues, or it could be anxiety attacks. One thing that tickled me is that when things really came to a head, the heroine proved without a doubt that she has a backbone of steel when something, or someone she loves, is in danger.

Although the novelette doesn’t have time to really delve into either Aiden’s or Rose’s point of view as much as it might have, the author presented enough to make me believe that their romance, their falling in love, and their willingness to commit to the other, despite the unusual bumps in the road, was natural and acceptable. Even though this tale is told from both points of view, the author didn’t make either one omniscient. There were enough surprises to please me.

The sex was incredibly steamy, seductive and well written. It was just enough to make me happy.

The villain erupts on the scene fast and there were no surprises as to whom the culprit was regarding the town’s current mystery. As brief as he was, the author painted him with an effective swipe of the ‘nasty brush’ to make me believe he was a bounder, a sick individual and a worthy antagonist.

Give Dark Forest a whirl if you want a surprising gem of a read. What it doesn’t have in quantity, it makes up for in quality. I quite enjoyed myself.

Eleanor Martin is every company’s dream employee. She arrives early, stays late and never misses a day. If it weren’t for Eleanor’s skill as a private secretary, her architect boss would never make a deadline. Not only does she keep him on track, she runs interference between him and his over-bearing mother, his deadbeat brother, and the half dozen or so women who want to bed him and/or wed him.

When Jess Norton acquires a new client who asks him to build a palatial hideaway on Grand Cayman Island, Jess is certain he’ll never be able to complete the multi-million dollar job without the help of his efficient secretary. Despite her reservations, he convinces Eleanor to accompany him on the assignment of a lifetime.

The sun and the sand cast the perfect spell for romance. But will the tides turn in the opposite direction?

I’m a sucker for those career-themed movies from the 1950s where girls in crisply tailored suits conquer the business world and—of course!—find romance along the way. So naturally I was drawn to the premise of April Love, a novella about a secretary in 1958 who falls in love with her boss. That the romance takes place on Grand Cayman Island just adds Caribbean flair to the appeal.

Eleanor Martin is the perfect secretary and office manager. She’s her boss’s right hand woman, knows everything about the company, and is always one step ahead of his requirements. The fact that he happens to be gorgeous just adds spice to her interesting job. Her boss, architect Jess Norton, is a bit of a playboy but never lets his private life affect his dedication to his craft. When a commission requires him to travel to Grand Cayman, and no project manager is available to go with him, it is only natural that he bring along his super-efficient secretary instead. Once in the sultry tropical atmosphere of the islands, though, their relationship changes in ways neither anticipated.

The idea that leaving their familiar surroundings makes Jess and Eleanor see each other in new ways really appealed to me, but the premise didn’t hold my attention as well as I would have liked. For a novella, April Love takes a surprisingly long time to get going, and when it does, it doesn’t spend enough time developing the characters or building the emotion of the romance. Interactions that should draw the reader into Jess and Eleanor’s changing relationship are often summarized (“They sat there for the longest time, enjoying the warm evening, the cool water, and each other’s company”) or happen off-page (“They’d spent the remainder of the evening in light conversation”) while story space is expended on minor details like business arrangements and clothing choices. That lack of characterization, combined with the author’s tendency to tell rather than show, gave the story a flat quality and made me feel I had little sense of Jess and Eleanor as people and still less idea why they fell in love. Even their physical encounters were more matter-of-fact than involving (“when she offered no resistance, he pressed his lips to hers a second time”).

I wish there had been more atmosphere of the fifties. Beyond a reference to some baseball players of the era and mentions of the Pat Boone song of the title, this story could have taken place any time. In fact, I only remembered it was supposed to be the fifties when I wondered things like: would it really have been so easy to fly from Detroit to Grand Cayman in the pre-jet age and would there have been multiple daily flights to choose from? And did men wear shorts and casual shirts when dining in opulent hotels back then?

Overall, though, this story has an appealing premise and an attractive hero and heroine I wanted to root for, even if I didn’t enjoy their story as much as I would have liked.  I’m certainly not sorry I read this, and still enjoyed much of it. So, if you’re in the mood for a short read that takes place during the Golden Age of Rock and Roll, April Love might be just what you’re looking for.

Sometimes a thin line is all that separates an ordinary day from a baffling one.

Simon’s arrogance and tendency to judge others harshly made it difficult for me to like him, but his personality is so well-described in this short story that I couldn’t wait to find out what happens to him next. His positive qualities help to round him out as a protagonist. While I wouldn’t necessarily want to meet him, Simon is well-rounded and a good choice as the audience’s guide through this particular tale.

I never quite understood why it took Simon so long to pick up on certain clues. He’s an intelligent, meticulous man who has strong opinions about many different topics. Simon also seems to have formed an excellent mental map of his surroundings. While the pacing itself was well done, it would have been helpful for this reader to have a better explanation of why Simon overlooked so many clues that seemed like they should have been more obvious to a man with his background.

Certain short stories expect a lot from the readers, and this is one of them. Physics references are common and most of them are not explained by the time the plot moves on to the next scene. While some clues are provided, they also require some work in order to reveal their secrets. Given the subject matter this was a good decision, though, and I truly enjoyed putting all of the pieces together.

Piercing the Veil stretched my mind. This is a great choice for anyone in the mood for something clever.

He can save his club … or his woman. Which will he choose?

Of course, I loved this book! What’s not to love? It was everything that I wanted it to be in a story. Murphy is a great story that hooked me from beginning to end. All of the characters were awesome. I simply must read about each one of them. Murphy, our hero, was so hot. I want one just like him!

Murphy and Tate had an electrifying chemistry together, even when they were fighting, but especially in the sizzling hot love scenes. Tate was a bit of a brat in the beginning, though I later found out that they had some bad history together. She gave him her heart and then it looked like he threw it away. She had very good reasons for making her man earn back the trust he had destroyed. I felt that Murphy was absolutely perfect though. Everything he did was to protect Tate and the club. He proved it in so many ways. Who could resist a man like that ? Not me ! Tate was strong, though, and she really made him work for it. I loved her too.

This book had everything including lots of great characters that made me want to join their club. The love scenes were so memorable. They were very explicit with some anal and toys as Murphy showed Tate that he owned her body as well as her heart. The suspense was fantastic. Danger loomed from a rival MC with some nasty connections. The book had a lot of things going on, great action and nice sub-plots that I can’t wait for the author to explore. That’s what I like about series books. I get sucked in and want to know everyone’s story. That’s exactly what happened with this book.

Bottom line: This book was just about perfect in my opinion, with only a few editing mistakes. I found some odd phrases that should have been worded differently in order to be correct.  I had to stop reading for a moment to take another look and see if my eyes were deceiving me. Though this was annoying, it in no way detracted from the great plot. The plot was good. It had a great story, and I easily connected with the characters. I absolutely loved the hot bikers. The story had plenty of action both in and out of the bedroom. It even had a few funny moments within the drama and action. I can’t wait to watch Eva take on Tiny. I loved this one, and I can’t wait to check out more books in the series. The next book up for me is Nash. It’s looking like I’m in for a wild ride with that one.

Murphy was a great read for me. I enjoyed it immensely and have no problem recommending it to everyone.

Seeing the twenty-third century from Lily’s perspective introduces a lot of wonder into her story. There are many things in her daily life that sent a shiver down this reader’s spine. What made reading about them even more intriguing was comparing her expectations of what a typical day is like to my own. It reminded me of many of the emotions I’ve felt when visiting other countries, and the author captures what it’s like to be exposed to a new way of thinking very well.

There is a subplot in this book that is exceptionally well-suited for readers who are beginning to transition to more mature fiction, but it is not given as much space to develop over the course of the plot as I would have preferred to see. As fascinating as it is to see how the author imagines what human civilization might be like a few hundred years from now, by far my favourite part of this story involves how the relationships between certain characters shift over time. Had more time been spent on this aspect of Lily’s life, this book would have received a much higher rating.

With that being said, the technological advancements in Lily’s time are surprising. It’s difficult to predict what life will be like in the future, but I would be very eager to try almost all of the improvements that Ms. Chloe mentions during the course of the plot. She has a keen eye for the small details that make this reader feel as if I’m personally experiencing everything the characters say or do. Her ability to imagine what we could become will keep me coming back for more from her.

Besides Naturalization whisked me away to another time and place. This is a good choice for anyone who hopes the same thing will happen to them.

Chicago assistant state’s attorney Zac Hennings just got handed a political hot potato: keeping the convicted murderer in a high-profile case behind bars. He’s up against his most formidable—and alluring—adversary. First-year law student Emma Sinclair is passionately fighting to free her brother. But she needs the take-no-prisoners prosecutor’s help.

Caught between attraction and letting a killer go free, Zac walks a tightrope. Until evidence surfaces that the real culprit’s still out there. With his career and Emma’s life on the line, Zac races to right a terrible wrong. Refusing to back down, he’ll bring a cunning lawbreaker to justice—or die trying.

Unexpectedly complex, The Prosecutor satisfied all my needs in a romantic suspense.

Emma Sinclair is convinced her brother, Brian, was wrongfully convicted of murder and has been working feverishly for months to find a way to have his conviction overturned. She catches a break with a death bed confession from one of the detectives on the case who says the “positive” ID from a witness, wasn’t positive at all and that the cops on the case led the witness.

She manages to find a lawyer to take her case and, as fate would have it, said lawyer is the sister of the prosecutor, Zac Hennings — and both siblings are determined to win. With all the pieces on the board, the story starts rolling in earnest right from the start.

The reader is pretty certain right off that Emma’s brother, Brian, is innocent. That’s not what the book is about. What the story covers is finding out the truth … a truth that is difficult, convoluted and full of red herrings. The author does a good job setting up many possibilities in very few pages.

The attraction between Emma and Zac is palpable, too. At heart, he’s a good guy and really is searching for the truth. But it’s hard for him to consider that there was malfeasance by the police. The problem behind all of the previous investigation is that the victim was the daughter of a respected cop, and everyone wanted to see her killer punished. Zac is no exception.

Of course, being on opposite sides creates friction, but they can’t deny what they feel, either. It’s a believable romance full of tension and drama.

Overall, I really liked this book. Sure there were a few things that stretched my belief a bit, and the climax happened a little too quickly, but those were little things that didn’t significantly affect my thorough enjoyment. Now I wonder … will Penny and Brian get their own stories? Please?

Now worried about simply staying alive another day, Morgan learns that Graham has a few secrets of his own that may be just as dark as the killer’s.

Morgan Phillips is in a bind. Her story reporting about a tap dancing St Bernard didn’t go down well with her boss. She needs a big, meaty story and soon – but the only thing worth reporting is a series of grisly murders and no one is talking. Officer Graham Audrick had helped her out of a few scrapes, and frequents a small diner Morgan knew. The fact the police officer ais drop dead gorgeous only helped Morgan convince herself he’d be the perfect man to try and seduce a few juicy tidbits out of. Feeling guilty about taking advantage of such a sweet guy, and pleased to find he’s as attracted to her as she is him, Morgan lets Graham take her home. When one thing leads to another all too soon she learns she may have bitten off more than she can chew.

This is a fast paced, exciting paranormal story. I really enjoyed the interaction between Graham and Morgan and was delighted to find Graham was far smarter than he’s initially portrayed. I loved how he played Morgan – even when she thought she was the one in charge and playing him – and I greatly enjoyed the twists he put on her, getting the upper hand even when she had no clue. I found it a little unrealistic that Morgan took so long to even guess that Graham might be a shape shifter. When he starts talking about scenting her, marking her and the fact she’s his mate – not to mention biting into her shoulder with “animalistic teeth” and saying he’s possessively marked her as his – and she still appears clueless. I wondered how on earth she could not have put things together quicker.

I also found it a little unrealistic that she felt so guilty for weaseling a few hints about the case Graham’s working on. She’s a reporter. I felt the fact she wasn’t some hard-nosed, heartless bitch was great and refreshing, but it was difficult for me to imagine a reporter who feels guilty using a sexy outfit and a smile to get a story. I mean, how could someone like that actually make it in the real world? I have to admit though, I thought it really was good, though, that Morgan didn’t fit the regular mold of a “will do anything for a story”. In my eyes it made her a far more relatable heroine – just not particularly realistic.

The chemistry between Graham and Morgan was explosive, and the sex well written and hot. I enjoyed the ruse Morgan had for Graham and found their coming together to be believable and exciting. I also was pleasantly surprised by a twist near the end, which I totally didn’t see coming. Any time a book surprises me with turns in the plot I find that’s wonderfully refreshing.

If you’re looking for a story about a sexy werewolf cop and a rogue killer, this is a good book to try. I enjoyed the mystery, the paranormal side of the world was well built and interesting and while Morgan wasn’t always the sharpest knife in the drawer, she added to the plot and helped round the story out. I found this to be a good book that ticked a number of boxes for me and would happily read more set in this world and by the author. Recommended.

Caroline is smitten with Richard from the moment they meet, so I found it easy to believe she would be eager to marry him, even though it was only supposed to be a marriage of convenience. Though Richard professed not to have any serious feelings for Caroline, it is clear that he is very fond of her. As they spent more time together, their bond gradually strengthened. They have many obstacles to overcome before they reach their happy ending, including an enemy lurking in the shadows trying to sabotage their happiness. Richard is also tormented by memories of his past. He wants to let Caroline in, but every time I thought he was making progress, something would remind him of his former wife and he would push Caroline away. I kept wondering how long Richard would let his past ruin his future with Caroline.

I have to give Caroline credit. She is a warm and caring woman with an enormous amount of patience. Caroline is fairly accommodating concerning Richard’s mood swings, but she isn’t weak. She is perfectly capable of standing up for herself when Richard crosses the line. Her personality is the perfect mixture of gentleness and strength and is exactly what Richard needed to help heal his heart.

I must admit I found it very easy to figure out who was behind the incidents attributed to the ghost of Richard’s dead wife. There were only a few plausible suspects, so I was fairly sure how everything would play out. It was simply a matter of wondering when Richard and Caroline would finally put all the pieces together.

I enjoyed reading His Shadowed Heart. Richard and Caroline are charming characters and I had fun watching them on their journey to peace and happiness. Anyone looking for a good book to pass the afternoon with should give His Shadowed Heart a try.
