At the end of their night of frenzied passion, Jazz Winters walked away from the only two men who’d ever made her feel like a woman. Logan Cavanaugh and Zach Evans let her go, but only if she swore all her future leaves to them. For fourteen, excruciatingly long months, they’ve waited for her, visiting when they could, but the demands of Mike’s Place only let them go one at a time.

Jazz’s fear that a ménage can’t last a lifetime is founded in her very middle-class, middle-American upbringing. The stress of years of military service in hot zones, combined with life-threatening injuries, pushes her to the edge. When she comes home, she’s the wounded warrior, not the woman she thinks they want. But Zach and Logan are right there to help her, even when she resists.

She’s not alone. And whether she chooses one man or both, they have no regrets and they won’t surrender.

Madame Eve set them up for a night of ecstasy, but can three Marines turn one night into a lifetime?

Erectile dysfunction has developed as a real concern of a human life. cheap tadalafil tablets Because it is the continuation of characters from a 1Night Stand story, No Regrets, No Surrender is an unusual treat. We were introduced to Jazz, Logan and Zach in Retreat, Hell! She just got here! and I fell in love with them right away. Each has their vulnerabilities, as well as their determinations, and their rendezvous was believable and felt very natural.

When I found out there was a longer story involving these three, I jumped at the chance to read it. I love the 1Night Stand series, but each story leaves me wanting more. I was so anxious, in fact, that I did not read the blurb accompanying the book, so I went in with absolutely no expectations. The story was not what I expected.

The three main characters do not disappoint. I still love Jazz, Logan and Zach as much in this tale as in the original. The story is well written, and the changes of points of view helps the reader to connect to all the parties involved. There are two things, however, that keep me from loving this book as much as the first.

Jazz, unfortunately, suffers a traumatic brain injury. My heart bled for Jazz, and the way the author wrote in her point of view – the confusion, repetition, and disorientation – makes the reader appreciate how difficult a time she’s going through. The men were not as sympathetic. Since Logan had also been injured in combat, I had hoped we’d see him help Jazz acclimate using his own experiences. In the same respect, Zach had held Logan’s hand during recovery. He could have added another dimension to the healing process. Instead, it seemed both men had to struggle with their feelings of lust as opposed to their sympathy. I know they had a rather heated sexual relationship, but to believe their feelings went deeper was difficult when their main focus was on how Jazz looked or felt – or how hard she made them. I do believe they loved her, I just wish we would have seen more of the rehab process instead of just the sex.

A lifetime relationship – marriage included – is very difficult to picture with three people. Since both Logan and Jazz have similar battle experiences, including life-altering injuries, they seemed suited to continue a long-term relationship. Added to that, there is a lengthy love scene with only Logan and Jazz, and I ended up thinking Zach was somewhat odd-man out. In a world where the norm is two people, there needed to be more explanation or justification of why these three felt they could sustain for the long haul, despite admitted feelings of jealousy or exclusion.

Regardless of these two objections, I did enjoy spending more time with these three characters, and if they are happy, then I am happy. If you liked Ms. Long’s first foray with Logan, Zach and Jazz, you will definitely want to revisit them in this book!

Wealthy recluse Anthony Lyons lures Marie Maxwell, Atlanta’s most sought-after event planner, to his isolated estate in North Carolina to coordinate a wedding and reception for a “very special couple.”

Despite her sophisticated veneer, Marie’s a street-smart orphan without a past. Adopted by the owners of the elegant Hotel Maxwell, she was raised in the business. For an outrageous fee, Marie accepts Lyons’ challenge to plan a wedding for 200 guests in 10 days at Lyons’ Den. Her work is complicated by an absent bride and bridegroom and an arrogant and exasperating employer who is too interested in her and her personal life—especially those lost years.

Confronted by a mysterious stalker, two murder attempts and dark shadows from her shrouded past, Marie finds an ally in an amorous feline of some unknown species. But who’s got it in for her? And what’s with Anthony and all the cats?

This short story screams “intrigue” from page one. I had so many questions just from reading the description I dove into this book with determination as soon as it hit my inbox.

At first the hero, Anthony, comes across as more of a stiff anti-hero. He’s coarse and abrasive but then he begins referring to Marie as “Kitten” and it honestly had me sighing. There was so much emotion and hope built into that simple moniker, I just knew there was more to Anthony than my first impression. On a side note, Marie gives Anthony a nickname, as well; it too was chock full of (humorous) meaning. She excels at defying this Alpha male. I liked Marie from the very beginning. She’s smart, talented and in no way a wilting flower.

Ms. Bay set the tone for a mystery to solve right away. Anthony offers to pay an extraordinary amount of money to get Marie to his NC estate. She’s supposed to pull off a miracle wedding to celebrate the grand “awaited event” within ten days but without the benefit of a bride or groom to consult. I started getting a clue to the “paranormal” aspect of the book when Marie is confronted by some larger than normal felines and when she sits down to prepare the menu. There’s a distinct lack of green leafy offerings but plenty of fish and rich desserts. It was actually at this point during the planning that I began to think this book was going to be too pat, too textbook convenient.  I had lots of questions and Marie struck me as a character who should have been equally curious or at the very least apprehensive. The events that followed brought a new level to the mysterious happenings as well as gave this reader insight into Marie’s past. It brought the story full circle and provided closure that was satisfying.

Readers who enjoy a bit of intrigue as well as humor with their paranormal will have no trouble be swept into Marie and Anthony’s story. The chemistry between the characters practically crackles on the page. It isn’t soft or subtle and neither Marie nor Anthony is completely sure they like it until they finally give it. Well worth the read and doesn’t take up much your time. Pick up a copy today and see what trouble you can find by venturing Into the Lyons Den.

Tell us something about yourself

I am a British writer who spends approximately half her life in a semi-restored farmhouse in the Czech Republic, where I write my books. I have three novels out – Mother of Wolves (a fantasy adventure), Girl in the Glass (magic realism fantasy) and Love of Shadows, my new book and sequel to Girl in the Glass. All three books have strong if very different heroines. I like to write popular books that get under the skin of the reader. A number of reviewers have said that the books and the central characters have stayed with them after they finished reading, which is just what I want.

Do you have a regular/day job?

I have my own business – a travel company offering tours and holidays in the Czech Republic. This means I am very busy in the summer, but have time in the winter to write.

Did you always want to be a writer?

I have always known that I was a poet. I was first published when I was thirteen and was regarded as one of the bright young things of British poetry, but poetry doesn’t pay the bills and I had to focus on my career. It was only a few years ago that I decided to try my hand at writing novels. I had always made up stories but up until then they were for my enjoyment only.

Who are your influences?

I was blessed by being taught by two incredible women. The first was my creative English teacher at junior school who spotted the poet in me. The second was my very dear friend Hannah Kodicek. Hannah was a successful story editor in the film industry, (she worked on the Oscar winning The Counterfeiters). When I started to write novels she looked at them for me. I learned so much from her about how to tell stories which excite the reader.

In terms of writers – I am an admirer of Ursula Le Guin, who not only writes wonderful stories but also some of the best books on how to write. Hilary Mantel is another favourite of mine, she is able to turn her hand to so many genres. I have recently discovered Alice Hoffman.

What inspired you to write Love of Shadows?

My writing is very character driven. That is not to say the books don’t have strong stories; thanks to Hannah they definitely do, but what inspires me to write are questions like: How would someone deal with this? What makes this sort of person tick? Judith, the central character of both Love of Shadows and Girl in the Glass, is a loveable, complex and at times frustrating young woman. In this book we see her choose to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a healer, even though traditional women healers are being persecuted. I was fascinated to read about the persecution of women healers in the 14th to 17th centuries; we don’t know how many thousands were burned or hung as witches. What would you risk to follow your calling? The other theme in the book is Judith’s relationships with others. She has been badly damaged emotionally, first by her upbringing and then by a particularly nasty relationship. As a result she is naturally scared of emotional attachment. What sort of man could get past her barriers?

How do you come up with your characters? Do you model them after someone in particular?

No, I don’t model them on specific people (it would be rather dangerous for my relationships, don’t you think?), but I do use aspects of different people. Until a few years ago I worked with disadvantaged people – homeless, refugees, abused women – and was honoured to hear their stories of courage and survival in the face of adversity. Judith is like them a survivor and like them has to live with the scars of her past. Bruno I must confess is to some extent influenced by my father. He has my father’s charm and strong gentleness.

Have you ever experienced writer’s block and how do/did you deal with it?

I have the usual writer’s block which always happen about fifty pages in on the first draft of every novel. I start full of ideas and excited but by page fifty it’s not exciting any more and I realise any plotting problems I’ve got. My usual answer is to take a break. It may just be that I take a basket and go mushroom hunting in the forest or it may mean several days off, doing something mindless, which frees up my imagination to work. I was very pleased to watch a BBC programme about Ian Rankin – he has the same block only his starts at page sixty-five.

Can you give us an idea of how your normal day is like?

I don’t really have a normal day. The nature of my business is that in the summer I may be leading a tour or organising hotels or researching another tour. In the autumn/winter I spend a month or two in my Czech home intensively writing. I find I can only write the first draft there and not in the UK. When writing I get up and make a mug of tea, sit down and check my emails and then launch into writing. I aim to get 2000 words done a day; that usually takes me all day and sometimes into the evening. I write seven days a week. If it’s going really well I can keep writing into the night.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

As a indie writer I soon realised that if I wanted people to know about and read my books I had to publicise them. That takes as much of my time as writing the books. I have several blogs – my author’s blog http://zoebrooks.blogspot.com, another reviewing magic realism books http://www.magic-realism.net, and my oldest blog which is about my adventures in the Czech Republic http://czechproperty.blogspot.com. I also produce a weekly online newspaper on the best articles about fiction by and for women http://www.womens-fiction.net. These together with my business keep me very busy.

What would you do with a million dollars?

The Czech farmhouse has a derelict barn with lovely brick vaulting, which I would love to convert into writers’ retreats, but haven’t the money. I would invest some in paying people to help me with publicity for the books. And I would set up a charitable trust, so I can support projects with disadvantaged people.

If you could have any super powers, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to speak and read all languages. The school I went to was in Cheltenham which is where the British Government has its listening centre so I was surrounded by the children of linguists – it was a nightmare, I felt really stupid and slow. Czech is an extremely difficult language (it has seven declensions for each word) and I just can’t get to grips with it. It would also mean of course that I could write my books in all sorts of languages and reach a much wider readership.

Any messages for your readers?

I hope you enjoy the book and fall in love with Judith the way I did.

But he can atone. The Black Iris is dead. The Ivory Rose has risen to the top of the pirates and is leading brutal raids on the coast. If Demetrius can capture and kill her, he’ll win his pardon.

And then Demetrius discovers the Ivory Rose is Eleyna. He must decide which will be his third mistake: losing his last chance at a pardon or destroying the one woman he’s ever loved.

So … wow… this was pretty amazing.  From start to finish, it’s just epic — lavish, full of description and history.  Reminded me of the fantasies I grew up on thirty years ago.

I admit to being a bit surprised that, aside from a short beginning with Demetrius in his old age, the book spends quite a bit of time on his grandfather, and then his father before Demetrius is even born. I understand that the author wanted to give us some background, but it really slowed the story for me. Truthfully, had I not been reading this for review, I might not have continued. However, I’m glad I did.

Demetrius’ story is … well, I can’t say “wonderful”, because it’s largely heartbreaking, but so rich in texture and living and adventure (good and bad), that it was a joy to read. Once I put aside my romantic heart, and just enjoyed this for the story it was, I was so pleased.

The author has a way with words and certainly has honed his craft. The reader can feel, see, smell, hear everything in great detail. We were right there on the pirate ship, in the pub, herding sheep. Even better, I caught no grammar errors or typos, and for this I’m truly grateful.

Still, in case you didn’t see the number of pages up top of this review, this isn’t a quick or easy read. It’s dark in parts, with heavy messages and difficult times. It’s interesting, edifying and well written, but still quite a workout to read.

If you love real, hard core, epic fantasy, I highly recommend this for you.

From wartime Italy to the American West, Jonathan Hull takes readers on a heartrending passage through the lives of three families torn by history and bound by an unshakeable – and at times forbidden – devotion.

Ryan Brooks never forgot the powerful hands that pulled him from the wreckage of his parents’ station wagon that summer in 1960 when he was ten and his childhood came to a fiery end during a family vacation. Thirty years later, Ryan returns to Wyoming to thank the dying rancher for saving the life he is still trying to be worthy of. The chilling sight of Mike O’Donnell’s deeply scarred hands is just the beginning of Ryan’s journey as he soon finds himself caught between the rancher’s captivating – and married – daughter, Shannon, and his mysterious Italian wife, Alessandra.

When Mike’s deathbed confession sets Ryan on a search for the truth of what really happened the day his parents died, he unearths a long-buried secret that leads to a mountain cave in Northern Italy and Alessandra’s dangerous love affair with a haunted young German soldier. As past and present collide in an intricately woven story of love and redemption across generations and continents, Ryan discovers that the answers he seeks are inscribed deep in the hearts of those whose lives – and courage – he must measure against his own.

I have to admit there are only a few fiction books that make it to my ‘keeper’ shelf. Books that, no matter how many years pass, I won’t part with them, promising myself that one day I’ll re-read them and get lost in their pages once again. The Devoted is one such book. In fact, it was such an enjoyable read that it will stand out as one of my favorites of 2012.

Mr. Hull pulled me into the story from page one and kept me turning the pages from there on. I found myself picking up the book and wanting to read more even during the busy holiday season. The prose was beautifully written and peppered with captivating characters who I felt came to life as the story progressed.

In fact, it’s not just one story but a collection of wonderful tales cleverly weaved together. I love a story with a secret and The Devoted has many. It’s one of those novels that gets you thinking about the decisions we make and how they impact not only us, but other people too.

It’s both a contemporary story, and also one set during World War Two which makes it not only riveting but tugs at your heartstrings. And yes, has you reaching for a tissue or two.

I loved all the characters and was cheering for all of them. The dialogue was very natural sounding and the pacing, despite this being over three hundred pages, sailed along.

Mr. Hull is a new to be author but after reading The Devoted I’m going to seek out his previous books and will eagerly await his next novel.

If you’re looking for a great book to kick off your 2013 reading I can highly recommend this one to you.

Darius knew that he would not let her slip away, this time he was holding on to her for good.

Stroke of Midnight grabbed my attention from the very first paragraph, as the sex between Rowyn and Darius was described in vivid detail. The author set such an incredibly hot scene that the reader was panting along with the characters. The chemistry between Darius and Rowyn virtually jumped off the page, surrounding the reader as it pulled you in.

Even though the chemistry was hot, the story surrounding these two characters was interesting as well. Naima Simone took the classic fairy tale of Cinderella, and put a modern day twist on it. I loved how she opened each chapter with a quote from Cinderella then followed it by a quote from Rowyn. She made these characters so charismatic that you couldn’t help but fall in love with them. She also showed the dynamic of the evil stepsister, an uncaring mother and detached stepfather.

Stroke of Midnight was an excellent story, however it felt so familiar to me, I knew I had read this story before. So, checking my archived books on my kindle, I found another book by Naima Simone entitle ‘A Perfect Fit’ which turned out to be the exact same story.

This short story was a nice follow up to the original book, Wild Horses. The characters are still as engaging as ever however the story for this reader wasn’t as fulfilling or entertaining as the original. This book cannot be read as a standalone because it is a continuation; you have to read the original book in order to understand some of the references given in this one. The chemistry between the characters was lacking maybe because the author was trying to show the distance that had developed between them. However, the author still showed Danyiah lighthearted and humorous personality and Adam, Danyiah’s love interest was still as devoted to her as ever, even though you saw how frustrated he was with her.

Wild Horses: Cold, Cold Winter is a pleasant story, and it was nice to revisit these characters to catch up with them. I just thought that the story needed something more, maybe more pages to flesh it out.  Asha King is an entertaining writer; I have read other books by her and have enjoyed them, and I look forward to reading more of her work. If you have already enjoyed the first Wild Horses, I would suggest that you pick up Wild Horses: Cold, Cold Winter and see for yourself, if anything you get to read about Adam and Danyiah again.

I enjoyed Becca Jameson’s writing style. She kept the story simple and easy to follow. My favorite part of this novella were the strong characters. Hannah and James were both very believable and easy to love. Their love scenes were extremely intense and they practically burned up the pages. I do wish that the writer would have given the story just a little more conflict. Yes, there was a villain but he never even got any face time. Even though some kind of confrontation would have made it more interesting , I still found it hard to put the book down until the end. I’d recommend this book to all paranormal fans, especially my fellow shifter groupies.
