No matter how far you run, you can never really escape a haunted past.

Darrell Henshaw—teacher, coach, and paranormal sensitive—learned this lesson the hard way. Now, with his job gone and few options, he heads for Cape May to coach a summer football camp. The resort town, with gorgeous beaches, rich history and famous Victorian mansions, might just be the getaway he needs. Only, no one told him Cape May is the most haunted seaport on the East Coast.

When a resident ghost, the Haunted Bride, stalks Darrell, begging for his help, he can’t refuse, and joins forces with Cassie, another sensitive. As Darrell and the street-wise teen investigate the bride’s death, they uncover something far more sinister than a murder. Can Darrell and Cassie expose those behind the crimes before they end up becoming the next victims?

Darrell Henshaw, the paranormal-sensitive first introduced in Overbeck’s Blood on the Chesapeake returns in another intriguing mystery, Crimson At Cape May.

Henshaw, caught in a difficult and unfair personal situation, is confronted with an old wrong, possibly a crime. We see him struggle to cope with both intrigue and ghosts as he sets about solving a missing-person case that might reveal a crime.

Henshaw’s character is immediately interesting, and his surroundings are so well described that the story is for me, completely believable. I fear that fans of mysteries might shy from picking up a book with that one word attached: paranormal. Yet, this mystery-lover was completely engaged by the intrigue and I suspect that fans of the paranormal will be entirely satisfied with this tale, as well.

Weirdly enough, it is some of the secondary characters, (especially those who seem to hate Henshaw) who help create a very ‘real’ environment. Oh, sure… the friends, Sara, Al, and Cassie are all important and it seems nothing speaks truer than hate, blame, and rage. And, of course, Henshaw hears how ruthless townfolk believe he is. And what the love of his life thinks of him… no giveaways here, but know: Emotions stomp their way out of this one!

Of course, there is something of a romance in this one, but the main story here is everything. Crimson at Cape May delivers an unpredictable mystery along with a powerful look at people, too.

Long, lean, wild and unconventional for an Omega, Zane rocks and rolls Alpha Grant’s world. Zane can’t be predicted. He can’t be contained. And Grant freaking loves it.

But it’s not all beer and BJs, even for these two. Grant’s never wanted to have kids of his own. His family is Legacy Tattoo, the business he finally reclaimed after his grandfather’s death. He’s dedicating his life to making it not just flourish but thrive. And he doesn’t know — yet — about Zane’s status as a single father to a rambunctious pre-K rebel.

That is the reason; we are now getting the generika viagra with same ingredient and power for our need only in our capacity. Their love affair is gonna be complicated. And — downright combustible.

Zane and Grant are unconventional and smoking hot together – only Grant has made no secret of the fact that he’s not intersected in children, and Zane is a single father to a young child. Despite the complications and explosive chemistry can these two guys make things work?

I really enjoyed this fun short story. Zane and Grant are both smoking hot werewolves and I found the chemistry between them both realistic and smoking hot. I enjoyed the fact they both had solid and completely believable reasons for acting the way they did. Grant was determined to set up his shop – the one he’d only just bought back from when his grandfather had lost it – and focus on his legacy and business and not his rabid libido. Zane needed work, and money, and was all for a sexily steamy good time when the offer was there. The two men circled each other and both had plenty of reason not to get more than superficially involved with each other. But life – and complications – always tends to get in the way.

I found the small cast of secondary characters both amusing and really well drawn. I feel the small town setting really worked well and offered a host of other equally enjoyable stories. This is an author I’ve read before – and enjoyed just as much as I did this go around. Indeed, it’s rapidly getting to the stage where I’ll likely give anything by this author a try because I’m almost guaranteed a humorous and enjoyable, quick read with characters I can get addicted to and a good, solid place with the plotting and romance.

I enjoyed the push-pull between Zane and Grant and felt their relationship grew along logical and believable lines. I particularly loved the chemistry between the two men and felt that the author did an amazing job letting both men be themselves while also slowly knitting them together to form the family they will become. I was thrilled when the eventual about-face that Grant needed to realise and I thought the author made it feel natural and relatable – and not a dramatic storm-in-a-teacup or blown out into an unnecessarily dramatic climax.

Fun and sexy, with two awesome heroes and a few solid secondary characters this is a great, quick read.

Tim Barrett, working at the Seven Plus ranch, receives some terrible news and has to fly home to Reno to comfort his sister. When he returns, it’s to find the owners have hired a new hand, ex-wrangler Ryan Horton. At first wary of Ryan’s flirting, Tim can’t deny that he’s attracted to the man.

Tim’s been through an awkward relationship in the past, and he doesn’t know very much about Ryan, apart from that the man’s hot in bed. When he presses Ryan for information, it causes a rift in their fledgling romance.

It becomes Tim’s mission in life to keep Ryan well away from Brady for fear of Ryan laying the pesky guest out.

Can Tim navigate a path through the various obstacles that seem determined to get in his way before finding a safe haven in the arms of the man he’s learning to love?

Some readers may be used to things heating up at the Seven Plus Ranch, but Loving the Cowboy is my first rodeo! Focusing in on ex-wranglers Tim Barrett and Ryan Horton this third installment in the “Hot in the Saddle” series is an excellent stand-alone story that has me so thrilled to find out that I have some more reading to do!

Tim and Ryan both have troubled pasts when it comes to relationships, but it doesn’t take them long to figure out they might be the solution to each other’s problems. With an incredibly fast-paced plot that is both fueled by moments of tension and incredibly sexy scenes that don’t leave you high and dry, Loving the Cowboy is everything you could want from a whirlwind romance between two devastatingly handsome and experienced ranchers.

J.P. Bowie makes this novel a thrilling ride not only for his characters but also for the readers with moments dripping with sweet tension, wondering if everything will work out for our heroes. The emotion in this novel fuels every piece of the puzzle in all moments whether they be sweet or saucy.

Tim and Ryan steal the show, but their relationship isn’t the only interesting part of this novel. Bowie writes a wonderfully fun side cast of characters, their personalities filling the pages and rounding out the relationships of everyone on the Seven Plus Ranch. They even keep readers guessing on who might hold the next starring role in a Hot in the Saddle novel… Sherriff Joel Harper and Rancher Stu Reynolds perhaps?

While I’m not privy to information on a fourth installment in this series, I do hope I can at least encourage the idea of one! Though it was a very quick read, the attention to detail Bowie put in his work does not go unnoticed. Loving the Cowboy is very carefully edited with no forgotten words or misplaced phrases and it does EVERYTHING to not distract from the story this novel is telling.

In this story about learning to love, you as a reader will find so much fulfillment in nicely developed characters, thrilling plot points, and the rugged arms of two very fit wranglers! I highly recommend rounding up this series for your collection especially if you are looking for something spicy!

It is the start of the adventures of a small black poodle, escapee from a cruel puppy mill, who is rescued by Nicole Marcel, a pretty girl singer in the City of Paris. The two become inseparable.

The little dog has an animal intelligence and a tremendous sense of smell, and proceeds to solve a murder, and other crimes by nasal prowess. Mimi gains celebrity status, as does her PERSON, Nicole.

It is a Cozy Mystery like no other!

In book two, titled “Mimi’s Paris Dilemma,” Mimi’s reputation, (and that of Nicole’s), is sullied by an unfair assessment by the public. The little dog slowly regains status by solving other crimes.

Mimi was fortunate enough to live in Paris, and she knew it. She, and her ‘person’ resided in a petite hotel on the Left Bank. That ‘person’ was young and pretty and would leash Mimi for walks.

In winter, Mimi wore a pink wool coat with a tiny, white handkerchief peeking out from a pocket on the back. It was so handsome against her jet -black toy-poodle hair. Of course, in warm weather, she only sported the leash.

How proud was Mimi to parade along the rues and boulevards. All of 12 inches long and perhaps 10 inches high, she walked with such elan, that people noticed her. She liked that. But most of all, Mimi reveled in the fact that she had been lucky enough to be endowed with a moist, black muzzle with two intense nostrils that provided her with a world of sensuality.

The scent of companion dogs with messages left behind, greeted her at every corner. The odor of soupe a l’oignon or boeuf, simmering in wine, emerged from the bistros as the two passed by, one two legged, the other on four. Oh, and to pass a fromagerie, was a special delight. The smell of the pungent cheeses from across the country within the little store could not be contained, and all of France was laid before Mimi’s hungry little nose.

Occasionally, Mimi was lucky enough to find a morsel of crepe au sucre on the rue Cler, inadvertently dropped by a hungry tourist who had been munching while he walked. Ah, life was good. What a lucky dog am I, was her constant thought.

Mimi knew she was smart, and she knew her sense of smell was extraordinary, even for a dog. She could define with her nose every herbal addition to a stew of veal with sage, or rosemary in a gigot d’agneau. Oh, the herbal names meant nothing, but the specific tingle in her nostrils made everything so clear, distinct and utterly delicious.

But not this time. This was a dark odor. It was the smell of blood.

For 10 years, she was the Chairman of The Bide-A-Wee Home, a prestigious animal shelter complex in New York City and Long Island. She also served on the Executive Committee of the Westhampton Free Library for 30 years.

ParisIn “Eye of the Beholder,” completed after the memoir, Elizabeth Cooke writes in rather irreverent terms, of the lives of six artists and the most compelling muse in each of their lives: next came, “A Shadow Romance,” an odyssey of an unfulfilled love affair between a mature New York City couple: then, the four “Hotel” books. She has just completed “How To Game People Without Even Trying,” the true story (fictionalized) of the murder of her second husband in his Paris apartment. A fifth ‘hotel’ book, titled “Rendezvous at a Small Hotel” has just been released. The sixth hotel book, “Intrigue at a Small Hotel” has received top honors from The Paris Book Festival for 2016. The seventh and final in the hotel series, “The Hotel Marcel Dining Club” is currently available.

For her, there is great joy in having the gift of expression that writing provides, and this is reflected in her rather prolific output.

April had painted the Missouri countryside with a palette of vibrant greens and gentle pastels only God Himself could create. The pastures were lush with new grass, and the dogwood and redbud trees added splashes of pink, cream, and fuchsia to the untamed landscape. Jo Fussner and her four maidel friends were on their afternoon walk, soaking up the midday sunshine. An occasional car passed, but otherwise, Morning Star seemed to be nodding off for its Sunday nap.

As they reached the edge of town, Jo gazed at a dilapidated white stable that sat back from the road. The plank fence around it was also in a sorry state of disrepair. The harsh winter hadn’t done the stable any favors, and Jo thought the place looked sadder than usual as the breeze riffled some of its loose shingles.

The wooden sign posted on the fence alongside the gate startled her. “Did you know this place was for sale?” Jo blurted. “I haven’t seen this sign before.”

“Me neither,” Molly Helfing replied. She glanced at her rail-thin twin sister, Marietta, who was recovering from chemo treatments. “Last I knew, the Clementi fellow who owned this property died in the nursing home—”

An idea was spinning in Jo’s head—an adventurous, totally impractical idea—as she gazed at the long white stable with its peeling paint and missing boards. Her longtime friends would think she was ferhoodled, yet her imagination was running wild with possibilities.

“The Clementi kids must’ve decided to sell the place rather than keep it in the family,” redheaded Regina Miller remarked. “I can’t think it’ll bring much, though, run-down as it is.”

“Anybody who bought it would have to invest a lot of money to make it usable as a stable again,” Lydianne Christner said with a shake of her head.

“But wouldn’t it make a great place for some shops?” Jo blurted out. “You Helfings could sell your homemade noodles, and Mamm and I would have more space to display our bakery stuff and our summer produce—and we could get other local folks to rent spaces, and—and it’s on the main highway! Think of how much more business we’d attract here than we do at the roadside stands in our yards.”

Her friends stared at her as though she’d sprouted a second head.

I was already melting while camping in Georgia with weather conditions of 92 degrees Fahrenheit with a “Feels like” 117 degrees when I started reading this book, Unexpected Risk. This story was so hot that I’m pretty sure we set a temperature record at our camping site! I’m not sure if I was sweating from the outside heat or from the romance between the hero, J.T and the heroine, Janet. The pop up camper A/C gave me little relief. I’m not complaining though, mind you, for nothing was going to get me to stop turning the pages.

This wasn’t my first Desiree Holt read, however, it is my first book in The Phoenix Agency series. Unexpected Risk is actually book seven. It’s my opinion that it can be read as a standalone but I want to go back and read the previous books in the series because I fell in love with the men who work at the Phoenix Agency. I also enjoyed how the heroines have a touch of psi. I’m not a huge fan of the psychic phenomenon element in romance stories but when I read the synopsis I felt confident that I’d love it. I wasn’t disappointed at all.

This is definitely a suspense/mystery/thriller romance. I can’t resist a man in uniform protecting the woman he as fallen in love with from suspenseful danger. The mystery plot around the Darkman was shocking, riveting and unpredictable. The story ends with a cliffhanger that left me wanting more.

The love story between J.T. and Janet was breathtaking and the hot weather outside had nothing to do with me losing my breath. J.T. makes my list of book boyfriends I’d like to meet. I’m fairly certain all the men in this series would make my list. While I wait for book eight I’ll go back and read the previous six.

Regardless, I recommend reading this book by a pool where one can jump in to cool off.

The unnamed main character had the unfortunate experience of living longer than everyone she ever loved. She was now nervous about growing attached to anyone else because of her fear of losing them. This isn’t something I’d ever seen brought up in a picture book before and I was quite curious to find out what this character’s solution to her problem would be. It obviously needed to be something that was appropriate for children, and it was. I had so much empathy for her and her loneliness.

There were some themes about death and grief that I thought could have been explained a little more gently, especially given the age group this was written for. These sections seemed to be geared towards adults instead of young children, so I’d probably have a conversation with little ones about this stuff before diving into the storyline. With that being said, they are important things to discuss with children and I’m glad the author decided to write about it.

Yes, this was serious subject matter, but it was presented in a lighthearted manner that I found pretty appealing. The old woman’s budding friendship with the stray puppy who kept showing up in her yard made me smile. She was kind to him from the beginning, but she was also so nervous about welcoming him into her home and heart. I truly enjoyed the tension between her conflicting desires to look after him and to protect her heart.

The Old Woman Who Named Things was a unique tale that I’d recommend to children and adults alike.

Summer Lightning by Saskia Walker – Spotlight

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Saskia Walker who is celebrating the recent release of Summer Lightning.

A steamy, heart-warming summer romance…

Coastal Ranger Julian Keswick is on conservation duty when he finds a woman shacked up in his favorite cove. He’s fuming, and confronts her, but his natural instinct to protect comes to the forefront during an incoming storm.

As the wild summer storm brings these two opposites together, the natural elements take charge of their mutual destinies. But Molly has to return to her business world in London, and her wild holiday romance with a ranger is soon to become a memory. Opposites attract, but for two people so very different, is destiny one week, or forever?

Molly hadn’t seen another soul on the beach during the whole time she’d been there. The cottage had been advertised as having a private beach, and –so far—that’s exactly what it had been. Who the hell was he?

Annoyed, she reached for her T-shirt and held it against her boobs, still lying close against the ground. The clumps of beach grass lining the top of the dunes gave her cover, but she wanted her T-shirt to hand in case she needed it.

It really was a man, and he seemed to be alone.

A very attractive man.

He was tall and well built, with closely shorn hair, left longer on top. He wore loud shorts and a threadbare, faded T-shirt. He had the look of a beachcomber, but this was England and the only beachcombers Molly had ever seen were on TV, on Australian soap operas. His legs were corded with strong muscles, and she eyed them as an artist, and more, as a woman—a woman subconsciously hungry for such a sight.

Perhaps she’d been away from people too long. A few trips to the local village for supplies obviously wasn’t enough to keep her in touch with the real world.

Torn between the urge to march over there and ask what the bloody hell he was doing on her beach, and the equally compelling urge to continue secretly observing him, she tried to figure out what to do.

Glued to the spot, the desire to continue observing took the lead.

As the moments passed she noticed again how supremely well built and attractive he was. She smiled to herself, watching as he kicked off his sports shoes and walked barefoot toward the edge of the shore.

As she watched, he walked into the water and dipped a long plastic tube into the surf. He lifted it and looked at it in the light, then sealed it with a plastic cap. She wondered what he was doing. He walked back to where he’d left his shoes and deposited the tube.

She could hardly drag her attention away, but it was her beach, it said so in the advert. Private, secluded beach, the perfect getaway. So what was he doing here? Who did he think he was? She had to remind herself she was from a city and things were different here. Along the wild coast in Northumberland roaming beachcomber types might be the norm. She was enjoying the privacy of the place though, and felt provoked to defend it.

Then he began to strip off.

The guy worked out, that much was obvious. He had amazing, powerful shoulders and a six-pack to match. He stood on the edge of the surf as if he owned it—it was as if Neptune himself had just walked out of the waves.

Molly’s eyebrows shot up when she realized he wasn’t stopping at the T-shirt.

He was busy undoing the tie at his waistband and was about to drop his shorts.

She glanced around, half expecting to see somebody else running over to accompany him. But, no, he appeared to be alone. And she was trapped there, clutching her T-shirt to her chest as she observed him, unseen…

Thinking of her dead-end life at home, the life that has consistently disappointed her, Lillian figures she has nothing to lose. Over the course of one humid, demanding summer, Lillian and the twins learn to trust each other—and stay cool—while also staying out of the way of Madison’s buttoned-up politician husband. Surprised by her own ingenuity yet unused to the intense feelings of protectiveness she feels for them, Lillian ultimately begins to accept that she needs these strange children as much as they need her—urgently and fiercely. Couldn’t this be the start of the amazing life she’d always hoped for?

With white-hot wit and a big, tender heart, Kevin Wilson has written his best book yet—a most unusual story of parental love.

Ever since she took the fall for her friend back in high school, Lillian’s life has gone nowhere. Stuck living with her mother and working dead-end jobs, she’s in a rut she can’t find her way out of. Worse yet, the friend she’d protected has gone on to a life of luxury as the wife of a particularly important politician. When Madison contacts her out of the blue, Lillian thinks it’s a joke. She’s prepared for failure again, but she’s not prepared for what she actually gets.

Our narrator, Lillian, is a potty-mouthed take-no-prisoners sort of gal and I loved her tough, ‘bring it on’ attitude. Even though she wasn’t excited about this job, she embraced it and promised to do her best to see it through. Watching her come to not just like the twins, but love being with them, was amazing. Probably the best characters in the book though were the twins. They knew they were weird, they knew that they’d not had a good life, but they kept on moving forward every chance they got. The way the author handled the twins’ spontaneous combustion was great, too. He made it seem like all kids burst into flames the second they got agitated and I stopped thinking it was weird after the first couple times. I think that the way Lillian downplayed the spectacle helped a lot in that regard.

The version I picked up was the audiobook and the narrator nailed it. She has this smooth, soothing voice that lulls you into a comfortable place. She tricks you into thinking that there really is nothing to see here, despite the fact she’s talking about two ten-year-olds currently burning – literally – with rage. The deadpan and mellow way that the narrator delivered such crazy scenarios really made the experience for me.

Everything about this book drew me in. From the crazy cover with a cartoon child in flames to the idea of kids that spontaneously combusted, it was right up my alley. I’d gone in expecting a humorous look at parenting and left with what was not just one of the funniest books I’d read all year, but one of the most heartwarming as well. Lillian’s transformation from ‘I’m just here because I’m getting paid’ to honestly, earnestly wanting to help these kids, made my motherly heart ache in the best way possible.

After her father’s death, Alfild’s life will change forever…

Being born blind in the time when Vikings had reached the shores of England, she has little to look forward to but a lifetime of service as a nun unless she can find a man to marry and take over the family farm—until she discovers two men with strange accents in her stables.
Your doctor might also tell you to do some research on the internet before ordering them online. cialis from india online These individuals used to order viagra robertrobb.com be healthy and energetic. There are many commercials which canada viagra online are on television about erectile dysfunction, and I feel that in our profession the equivalent to this topic as far as being embarrassing for many men. It is the dream of many men to make sweet love to their women and this should last get viagra overnight bargain prices for many hours.
Who are these two men, and why does her body respond in such a confusing but arousing way when she feels them near her, when their voices carry to her ears, or their scent to her nose? Will she find a new life with Jorgen and Aldric, or will they abandon her to her fate?

Completely alone after her father’s death, Alfild knows her world will become far more difficult. Born blind, she knows her options are limited, though she strongly wishes to remain on her family farm. When Vikings come to conquer their small village Alfild sees her chance to avoid a life in the nunnery.

I really enjoyed this short story. Told by Alfild in the first-person perspective I was initially concerned this would make it difficult to fully grasp Jorgen and Aldric’s characters and intentions. But I was relieved when instead this perspective really helped me appreciate both how lucky and smart Alfild was. Her father had helped set up their little farm in a perfect – and completely historically believable – manner to suit her blindness, using different stones and wood beams so her staff could tap different tones and sounds to lead her in various directions. Seeing the world through Alfild’s sightless eyes was interesting, refreshingly different and educational for me. After reading this short story once I immediately re-read it (something I don’t do very often) to pick up all those smaller aspects I might not have caught on the first reading. The author did an amazing job with this and I found the story and Alfild’s perspective in particular gripping and delightful.

While set long in the past, readers who really love their historical accuracy might need to give a bit of leeway. I feel the author did an excellent job with balancing the actual harsh realities of the historical time period with making the story palatable and readable. I fully understand most Vikings and their actions were not hero material or romantic in the least, but with just a little bit of flexibility in this area I feel the author has kept much of the richness and difficulties of the historical setting alive and accurate, but still softened enough areas to make the story steamy and a delicious read. Personally I really enjoyed the story and setting and feel the author did well with this.

Sensual and steamy, I found Alfild falling for both Aldric and Jorgen to be a little fast-paced, but understandable given her circumstances. Readers looking for a refreshingly different style of story should find this suits their needs wonderfully. I enjoyed both the historical setting and the outlook Alfild being blind gave to the story and romance as a whole. This will definitely be a story I reread a number of times into the future and an author I plan to keep an eye on. Recommended.
