Will a photographer be swept off his feet by a duke who’s more dishevelled than dashing?

It’s Valentine’s Day and it’s Billy last shift at The Chelsea Bunn. His photography career never took off, so it’s time to leave London, parcel up the leftover heart-shaped cakes and head back home to Hampshire.

Rumpled Charlie and his two mischievous dogs are Billy’s favourite customers, so when Charlie turns up at closing time with a mysterious wrapped gift and the offer of a whirlwind trip on the London Eye, Billy can’t say no. But Charlie is keeping a secret that could turn Billy’s world happily upside down.

As the snow falls over London and the big wheel grinds to a halt, Billy discovers that wishes aren’t just for Christmas.

When you feel you are as low as you can go, sometimes the only way left it up. This is what happens to Billy. His dreams in London have come to nothing and he is about to close his last shift without even being able to say goodbye to his favourite customer.

This is a short and sweet novella, the steamiest bit being when they kiss. Billy and Charlie make quite the couple but, if I’m honest, I can’t decide if I like them or not. They seem to feature a bit too many of the delightful English idiosyncrasies which, when put together, gives the whole story a bumbling feel to it. I don’t mind a bit but this seemed to be a deluge.

Being as it is only a novella, you don’t get too much depth or history from the pair of them, apart from the occasional memory. Saying that, the pacing is good, with it moving along nicely.

This was a nice short story guaranteed to while away half an hour or so. Not one of my favourites from this pair of authors but still an enjoyable read.

If he doesn’t end up naked and spread eagle on my bed I. Will. Die.

Gloria is due a happily ever after. She’s lost ten years to a toxic, dangerous relationship. Now that she’s finally free—and medicating with makeovers and margaritas in her mother’s kitchen—she has a long road ahead of her remembering who she really is. She’s scarred. But scarred doesn’t mean broken.

While Gloria’s deciding to take the next decade off from men, along comes larger-than-life, hometown hero Aldo Moretta. He’s saying all the right things and flirting in all the right ways. He’s deploying for six months and wants a date…with Gloria…when he comes back. Swoon. Panic.

One kiss, one dazzling, remember-for-a-lifetime kiss and he’s gone. But life and happily ever afters don’t always take the straight path. When Aldo’s deployment is cut short by an injury, it’s up to Gloria to be the hero for them both.

Who was she outside of the abusive relationship that was all she had known for so long? I knew from reading the first chapter that I wouldn’t put this book down before seeing Gloria Parker feel and see her real worth. Even beyond Gloria, Aldo had a story to tell as well and it was going to be gut wrenching in the best way possible because I already knew this book had a HEA if they were willing to fight.

Dr. Dunnigan says it best at the end of the second chapter.”Today you’re not a victim. Today you’re a survivor”.

This was a tough story to read. Not because I’ve personally been in an abusive relationship or dealt with PTSD first hand but because Ms. Score is so very talented in bringing the reader right into the room. Feeling what the character is feeling. I would warn anyone who has suffered from domestic abuse or a loved one walking the dark path of any form of PTSD, this book could be triggering. I want to say also that it could be good for someone who’s in or been in that situation, help them draw strength from both Gloria and Aldo’s stories.

If the demons that Gloria would have to battle wasn’t enough, I remembered a very important story arch from the first book in this series. Aldo Moretta coming home from Afghanistan. He wasn’t the same happy go lucky young man who left. He would never be the same. They would be both have such steep uphill battles but I was right there with them, cheering them on and cheering them towards each other. This was a deeply emotional story that I’m so glad I read.

It’s been a few years since I read the first Small Town Love Story book, Luke and Harper’s story. A few chapters into this one I realized that the stories are happening simultaneously. That worked well for me because it took me back and allowed me to remember how much I enjoyed that first trip to the town of Benevolence. This trip was going to be every bit as memorable.

I won’t even lie. The scenes with Aldo after “the incident” had me in the feels and bit breathless. Keep reading. It’s so very worth it! The book isn’t all tissues and sniffles. I LOVED Aldo’s mother and Gloria’s mother and who doesn’t love Harper and Sophie? I was smiling and even laughing out loud in parts that most often involved conversations between Aldo and his mother. Then Gloria, the new and improved Gloria, started showing some real spunk and she was fun to watch, too. I could ruin this story by talking about it but, last thing, when Aldo gets over himself or maybe back to himself, he’s a force to be reckoned with for sure!

This is one of my favorite series from one of my favorite story tellers. Finally Mine was an excellent addition and I can’t wait to read Linc’s book. Here’s hoping Ms. Score takes us back to Benevolence time and again!

The sound of boots on the hardwood floor drew their attention, and Anya’s eyes lit up as Stryker came striding into the room. At first he had eyes only for Anya, but Elena saw his gaze flick over to her briefly. He leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to Anya’s lips and she leaned up into the touch, her hand resting on his chest for a moment.

“Stryker, I want you to meet my best friend, Elena Garcia.” Anya gestured toward Elena, and she smiled brightly. So this was the man who had claimed her best friend’s heart. Elena had interacted with him months ago when he and his friends first bought the ranch and began remodeling the outdated ranch house into the beautiful home it had become. Their conversations had been limited to her work with the horses.

Elena stood and extended her hand. He smiled at her. “I seem to remember you lurking around when we were remodeling this place.”

“‘Lurking’ isn’t the term I would use,” she replied with a smile. “I was working quite hard.”

“That was around the time you won the Grand Champion trophy in Corpus, wasn’t it?”

Phantom’s voice came out of nowhere, gentle, and could that be with appreciation? He hadn’t made any noise to alert her he had come into the room. She turned and found him leaning against the dining room wall. How long had he been there?

“Yes, it was,” she said, watching his face for a reaction. If she wanted him back as a client, she needed him to fully understand how good she was with his horses. Knowing that he had seen the trophies she had won was a step in the right direction.

He watched her for a long moment, finally breaking eye contact to glance over at Anya and Stryker, who seemed to be in their own world. “When you have a moment,” he said, returning his gaze to her, “I’d like to take you out to the barn. It won’t take very long.”

Had he finally decided he needed her on the ranch after all? Was she about to get her client back? Elena’s heart pounded with hope. She glanced over at Anya, but she seemed fixated on Stryker. “I’m going to step out to the barn for just a bit,” she said, though she doubted Anya heard her. Spying the sugar cubes still on the table for their coffee, she grabbed a few and stuffed them in her pockets as she stood.

She smiled to herself. Anya had fallen in love, something she’d never thought would happen. From the looks of it, she was beyond happy, which made Elena happy. She only wanted the best for her friend, and if Stryker brought that look of joy to Anya’s face, Elena would support her no matter how crazy it seemed.

Elena looked up to find Phantom watching her intently, measuring every expression on her face. Nerves kicked into high gear in the pit of her stomach. Hope could be a dangerous thing. He turned and led her out of the house and toward the barn.

“You seem to be very close to Anya.”

Was he trying to have a conversation with her? The day had been full of surprises already, and he seemed to be the lead instigator of most of them. She crossed her fingers that the surprises continued to be positive ones. “We’ve been best friends since we met in college. We’ve been through a lot together.”

“I can understand that bond.”

“Do you have a best friend?” she asked, then realized how lame that must sound. “I mean… Well, surely you must have a best friend. What I meant was—”

He glanced sideways at her and flashed her a smile—a real smile—and it took her breath away. The warmth in that smile turned his tanned skin a deep, molten bronze. The short haircut couldn’t hide the slight wave in his hair, which made his face look less severe and intense. His dark-gray eyes—a color she’d never seen before—lit up and softened, the steel becoming magnetic and drawing her in. The corners of his eyes crinkled when he smiled, adding an extra layer of humanity she had thought he lacked. The man made of stone suddenly seemed more approachable than she would have imagined.

“What are you saying? You think I can’t make friends? I know we didn’t get off on the best foot, but do I strike you as that unpleasant?”

“No! I mean, of course not. Just because you don’t like me or, um, didn’t need me…um…” Hell, she was making a total mess of the conversation. She became annoyed with herself—and with him. He had put her in the predicament to begin with.

“I never said I didn’t like you.”

“You didn’t have to,” she replied, then nearly bit her own tongue. If her goal had been to win him back as a client, she was doing an exceptional job of mucking it up.

“I have a handful of friends I consider my brothers,” he said, returning to the original topic. “I would die for them if I had to.” His smile had vanished, and his serious demeanor had returned.

“Are they your business partners? Are Stryker and Snap your do-or-die friends?”

He didn’t answer her as they walked into the barn. The scents she loved washed over her as a welcoming balm—fresh hay, oats, leather, and horses. She walked quickly up to the first stall and a tall, red sorrel mare strolled up, knowing Elena was bound to have a treat for her. She pulled a sugar cube from her pocket and chuckled as the mare’s lips moved along her flattened palm, finding the cube and licking it off her hand.

“So is that your trick to get them to like you?”

Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can’t help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business?

What’s a girl to do when her fiance has up and left for Paris without notice, her mom has spent the latter years depressed, her best friend thinks crystals are a cure for all and she quit her job due to her boss’s sexual advances? Annie’s answer is to alienate herself and swear off new people. But how long will this last when Harper moves in next door and she literally falls on top of handsome private investigator Mo?

Annie Mercer a twenty-seven year old scientist whose life seems to be going down hill fast shares her story through journal writing and emails. I think the author took a bold approach in telling the story this way. I was quickly won over as Annie’s story progressed. Annie is a character that drew me in. Her life’s in chaos but she makes the most with the small circle of people who surround her. I enjoyed seeing Annie’s growth as she tries to make sense of the madness called her life. For this I think she is a character that other female readers may find relatable. I started out feeling sympathy for Annie due to her current setback of circumstances. Lost, a recluse, hurt by people and ready to wallow in her pain. With the beautiful, mothering advice from my favorite character Ms. Viola, Annie kept calm during the bewilderment and emerged.

Annie’s relationships were safe but as she journals her story the two new people she meets, it helps her reevaluate herself and find her strength to write a better life. I never felt a connection between Annie and Jon. I’m not sure if the author planned it that way or if that’s just the circumstances of the relationship between the two. Annie’s light seem to shine on those she knew and she inspired them with her kind spirit. The space that Jon asked for wasn’t understood by Annie but I think in the end the space helped her see other possibilities for her life. I was proud of Annie’s stance in her August 10th email to Jon. Annie standing in the reality and pain and thinking of herself. Jon seemed to be a good guy but his actions were selfish and inconsiderate. He took the easy way out instead of using words to express to Annie how he felt about his career and other things at a time when Annie was left to deal with life after being sexually harassed and quitting her job.

I think Annie’s treatment of Leesa was a down trickle of her unhappiness, her sense of loss. I enjoyed the humorous parts of Annie’s observation of Harper and her excuse to work in the yard. The emails from the Oak Grove Neighborhood Associate were hilarious.

What I took away from this book is growth, friendships, and life delivers in surprising ways and if you’re willing to look for joy and open yourself to new possibilities, the end is not an ending at all.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author. She has a talent for writing books with humor that also give a story of real life drama. I look forward to reading other books she’s written.

Cade and Sawyer might be Hollie’s biggest risk yet…

Ten years ago, Hollie Callihan left her best friends Cade Easton and Sawyer Matthews in the middle of the night for fear of breaking their hearts—and broke her own instead. She’s spent her whole life chasing adventures on distant shores, but spring floods in the Black Reef Mountains force Hollie, Region VIII FEMA Response Director, to return to Wolf Creek, the town where she left her heart in two.

Cade and Sawyer are now Wolf Creek’s chief of police and fire captain, Hollie’s first line of defense in emergency response…making them unavoidable. Her former friends are all grown up now and totally at odds since she left.

The many dangers of opioid purchased here on line viagra dependence include a poor response to fertility treatments. After all, Wolf Creek is a temporary stop and there’s no place for the daydreams or nightly fantasies she has about Cade and Sawyer—the same ones she’s been having for the last ten long years.

But facing genuine destruction and danger alongside Cade and Sawyer helps Hollie learn that vulnerability and trust aren’t dirty words. If she’s brave enough to let Cade and Sawyer in on what had her running all those years ago, Hollie might just find that taking the biggest risk of her life leads to its biggest adventure—three hearts beating as one.

A natural disaster that FEMA agent Hollie Callihan can fairly accurately predict leads to a reunion collision with her past that no one could predict.

It was unnatural to want two guys, right? That’s what a younger version of Hollie told herself nearly 10 years ago. The heart wants who the heart wants but she couldn’t see a way without hurting one of them so she chose to spread the love…err, uh heartache actually. Coming face to face with much more grown up and commanding versions of the boys she left, as well as some surprising new trouples (tri-couples) in town, has Hollie questioning her reasons to go and embracing her reasons to stay. I was sad right along with them, for the time they had lost, and I think the author did a good job of conveying that.

Cade and Sawyer aren’t what anyone in town would call friends or even frenemies. I actually thought that was an interesting twist from the author because in most scenarios like this, the guys are typically at least friends with the same goal. Not these two so, I looked forward to seeing exactly how they would work things out between themselves and still convince Hollie to give them (the three of them) a chance.

The story flows really well and the constant threat that looms over the town, the impending natural disaster, kept the tension ratcheted up for a good portion of the book. When it finally hits! Expectantly destructive and well described. I felt like I was battling Mother Nature right along side of them.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for some nagging grammatical errors, this book would be close to perfect. Not like every other sentence or even page but unfortunately noticeable to the observant.

Readers looking for a story where the guys or girl are constantly denying themselves of what they want shouldn’t read this book. If instead, they appreciate a lust/love temptation that can’t be denied, Cade/Hollie/and Sawyer’s reawakening is the way to go! It’s powerful and emotional and just a bit raw. And it made me want to go check out the three books that precede this one. That’s some good story telling in my book.

He sets out to make amends, and Jessie must decide if she’ll allow him back into her heart, and give Adrian a place to finally call home.

Jessie had been devastated when Adrian threw her out, but she refused to try and mend their relationship when it had so clearly been one-sided all this time. Discovering she was pregnant hadn’t changed her mind and she was determined to raise her son as best she could without anything at all from Adrian. However, when Adrian learned about their child, he was determined to be part of the child’s life, no matter what it took.

I initially found it really difficult to like Adrian’s character. While I felt bad he’d been horribly used by his ex-wife in the past, for the first few chapters I didn’t feel this justified his behavior towards Jessie – a completely different woman who didn’t even know Adrian’s ex-wofe. Adrian’s distrust and attitude towards Jessie and their child was quite a turn-off for me. I was grateful when Adrian’s initial reaction settled down and he acted more maturely and responsibly.

While it took me a while to warm up to Adrian’s character, I related to Jessie’s character straight away. I also was pretty impressed with how calm she was to Adrian crashing back into her life and how willing she was to include him in their child’s world. If I’m honest I’m not sure I could have acted as graciously and so while I’m not certain Jessie’s complete acceptance is realistic, but it certainly made the story smoother and my enjoyment of it as a whole, a lot better.

I was pleased with Jessie’s backbone during her and Adrian’s discussions and overall felt this plot of them settling the past and deciding to try and reconnect to build a family unit took up the vast bulk of the storyline. I’m not sure I really believed in the longevity of their relationship – Adrian carried some deep scars from his ex-wife and had proven to be fairly hotheaded and blind when it comes to certain matters of trust. I did feel though that both he and Jessie were determined to work on their relationship and absolutely do their best by their son, so while this wasn’t what I would classify as a traditional romance or happy ever after I think plenty of readers will enjoy the story and be pleased Adrian and Jessie could find each other again.

Not your average romance, this story is in many ways realistic and messy but still satisfying and easy to read.

“Looks like I’ve got some business to take care of.” Landon frowned, his gaze focused on someone behind Blake who he could hear was fast approaching. From the sound of the ski boots on the tile floor, he thought the person was female. “You go ski, and when you’re done, I’ll take a few runs down the slope.”

Blake glanced back and saw the pretty blond he’d noticed observing him and Rosco during the avalanche training. She was headed straight for them, her expression intense, brows furrowed, her gaze shifting from Landon to Blake. He smelled a whiff of her scent—fresh air and she-wolf. No wonder his brother was eager to assist her. At the same time, Blake was a little embarrassed that the woman approaching had witnessed him struggling with the snowblower. Good thing she hadn’t seen him with an out-of-control Saint Bernard even earlier.

Blake smiled. “I can hang around for a moment and take care of whatever issues she’s having.”

“No, that’s okay, Blake. The sooner you ski, the sooner I get to.”

Blake knew that wasn’t the only reason his brother wanted to take care of the woman’s concerns. Landon had recognized she was a wolf too.

When she drew closer to them, she targeted Blake, and he was eager to be the one to handle whatever was upsetting her. Happily. Conflict didn’t bother him or his brother. It was a chance to prove they could resolve any issues that arose at the lodge with the least amount of fuss. When he caught another whiff of her wolfish scent, that made him even more eager to help her. Though he reminded himself she could have a mate or a potential one.

She smiled brightly at Blake, her cheeks and the tip of her nose rosy from the cold. She was wearing a white parka, the furry hood down, a light-pink and white ski hat, dickey, and gloves, and formfitting light-pink ski pants and white ski boots, looking as if she’d just came off the slopes. She reminded him of cotton candy and snow bunnies, innocent and sweet.

When she reached him, she threw her arms around Blake in a hug, startling him. He smiled down at her, amused at where this was going. Since he was single, he didn’t have to worry about a mate throwing a fit. If he had, all she’d have to do was smell this woman all over him, and he would have been in the doghouse. As long as the woman hugging him didn’t have a mate either. Then again, wolves mated for life, so she probably wouldn’t act this way if she were mated or courting another wolf. She could smell that he didn’t have a she-wolf’s scent on him either. Not until now.

He was surprised at her action. Did she think he was someone else? But she would recognize his scent, which quashed that theory. The only other thought that flashed through his mind was that she was trying to pretend she had a relationship with him because some guy was hassling her. Whatever the reason, he was all too willing to play along and take care of whoever was giving her trouble.

She kissed him, startling him even more, and his brother laughed. “It appears your day is looking up, and I think you have a handle on this.” Still chuckling, Landon walked off.

Blake was enraptured with the woman. Her lips were soft and malleable as she pressed them gently against his, but she began building up the steam, licking his mouth and then nipping and melding hers with his.

Relishing the scent of the she-wolf and the crisp, cold out-of-doors that she carried with her, Blake wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her tighter against his body, enjoying her soft curves and warmth, building a slow fire deep inside him. They were kissing like they needed a room, he realized, not family fare in the lobby of their lodge. He very reluctantly pulled his mouth from hers and smiled. “Do I know you?”

“Took you long enough to ask.” She smiled up at him, and he wondered what he was getting himself into.

Hell, he was game.

“I’m Nicole Grayson, and you’re my fiancé. For the moment. My life depends on it.”

Blake frowned, worrying she was really in trouble, though she didn’t seem overly anxious—not in her facial expression, and certainly not in the way she’d been so easily intimate with him. “Do we need to call the sheriff?” He should have already had his phone out, but he didn’t want to let go of her if there wasn’t any need. This was just too damn nice.

“No, I’ve got a handle on this.”

He wanted to laugh at her choice of words since Landon had said the same thing about Blake. “All right, good show. By the way, I’m Blake Wolff.”

“Wolf? I’ll say.”

He smiled. He liked her easy banter and didn’t think she could be in any real danger. He would have smelled her anxiety for one thing, instead of her enticing arousal that was fueling his own. “I’d shake your hand, but I think we’re beyond that.”

“For this to be believable, yes.” She smiled up at him as if she truly adored him. “I saw all the trouble you were having with the snowblower earlier.”

“Uh, yeah.” That kind of blew his macho image, he was afraid. He had hoped she wouldn’t bring it up. “I’ve never used that kind before.”

“I kind of figured that. I haven’t either, or I would have tried to help.”

He smiled. “You watched instead.”

Her cheeks pinkened. “You were entertaining.”

“You saw everything?”

A wolf on a mission needs a partner…even if it’s only for one date…

The hot, powerful Wolff brothers have moved to the outskirts of Silver Town and opened a ski lodge. They’ve always wanted to live in a wolf-controlled area, and now they have their chance. They’re settling in for a quiet winter, when their lives suddenly become way more exciting than they’d ever planned.

Private Investigator and gray wolf shifter Josie Grayson is hot on the trail of a dangerous criminal hiding out at the ski lodge when her partner takes ill and must leave her to pursue the mission alone. Blake Wolff steps in—he can’t resist the allure of this brilliant and focused she-wolf whose presence awakens a long dormant yearning in his heart.

In simple words, the acai supplement is fortified with essential minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates, fats and body building proteins which cialis without prescription actually help the human body to burn its fat content the natural way. As pursuit of their quarry heats up, Blake has a mission of his own…to convince Josie that there’s more to life than work…and that she’s his perfect mate.

There’s nothing worse for a crime investigator than having that one job hanging over their past that never saw closure. It would certainly be worse for someone who had damning evidence that could never be admissible in court. A wolf’s nose may know but that isn’t enough when the perp is human. Now the bad guy is dead…or is he?

Nicole Grayson is good at her job and loves owning her own PI firm in Denver. Her success rate at catching people in insurance fraud has landed her a job that may just help bring closure to an early case in her career that never got justice. It also puts her in close contact with family who owns the Timberline Ski Lodge just out side of Silver Town, CO. More specifically, it puts her in close cover with one Blake Wolff.

Blake and his family moved to Colorado to be together and find connections by being part of the Silver Town wolf pack. He never expected the gray wolf who shows up looking to take down a couple of his lodge guests to be the mate his wolf longs for.

Their story is sweet. Blake will do whatever it takes to keep Nicole safe as she investigates the not-so-dead man and his cousin (who benefited from his death) staying on the fourth floor. The men are clever at cover their tracts and then there’s an additional surprise that I didn’t see coming.

The romance between Blake and Nicole heats up towards the end as does the action in the mystery she’s trying to solve. There’s never really any conflict between Blake and Nicole that has to be worked out so I felt a little let down, looking for growth, new discovery, a reason to cheer on their HEA.

They do have a beautiful future ahead of them, surrounded by family and a super supportive pack. I just didn’t feel a whole lot of chemistry between them that I look for in romance in general but especially paranormal. There’s a lot of telling in this book and it was very informative on the dangers of being caught in an avalanche. It was obvious Ms Spears did her homework there.

Still, the story in itself is complete. The bad guys are established early, her reason for being at the lodge is legit and the way she and Blake come together works. All in all, a good addition to the Silver Town saga of books with plenty of new characters to work in to new layers of the series.

Bill Grissom, seventeen, doesn’t have long to live, and when he’s given a second chance as a substitute for his counterpart in a parallel universe, he jumps at the chance to become the Golden Guardsman.

Things go well at first. Along with Veil—Charlene Thompson, Matter-Man—Anders Nixon, and Monolith—Martin Bollock, the other members of the group, they dispense justice wherever it’s needed.

However, Matter-Man’s insistence on getting paid for a job well done doesn’t sit well with Bill, and he becomes jaded and cynical about working for the Collective. To Matter-Man, and to the other members of the group, it’s all about the coin.

As well, more and more super-criminals start to appear, and when Bill discovers who’s coming and more importantly, why, he learns that being a hero involves more than simply dispensing justice. It’s all about living up to the ideals of being one—something that could cost him his life.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

The world building made me smile. There was a great deal of effort put into showing how superheroes in this universe were different from the ones that some readers might be expecting. For example, they weren’t universally liked for reasons I’ll leave up to other readers to discover for themselves. Explaining and exploring details like these brought this world to life for me. No sooner would one of my questions about how everything worked would be answered than a couple more would spring into place. It was a great deal of fun to figure all of this out.

I found the pacing of the beginning of this book to be slow. The main character had plenty of explaining to do about the world he lived in and the alternate universe he was about to discover. As intrigued as I am by superheroes, I found it hard to get into Bill’s story because of how slowly everything happened in the first several chapters.

The fight scenes were nicely written. I’ve been reading Mr. Frankel’s stories for years now, and his approach to writing about this sort of conflict has evolved in all sorts of interesting ways since I was first introduced to his stuff. It’s been a great deal of fun to see the different techniques he uses to describe what is happening in them and how he approaches a conflict that has multiple folks jumping into the fray all at once. I look forward to hopefully reading more of these scenes in his future work!

Stand-In should be read by anyone who likes superheroes.
