Kell’s only chance may be with a man he never expected to want, let alone need. Kell grew up as a paid prostitute and is very, very good at his job. His latest contract is to be help an uptight captain, Johrin, relax. Except while Johrin may be attracted to Kell, he feels guilty being with a courtesan, especially after hearing about Kell’s background. Kell can’t seem to get through to Jorihn and their relationship quickly ends, only to renew when Kell returns as Rally in a totally different body and looking nothing like he used to. Struggling to understand what and who he is now has consumed Kell but he must balance that with the needs of his new friends/masters, the Coil. Now only Jorihn can help Kell/Rally and the Coil against a much bigger threat.

Flux Orbit is a fascinating science-fiction story that balances tender romance and heavy science fiction without relying too heavily on one or the other. Instead both arms of the story are vitally important to its success. The science fiction aspects are pretty far fetched but in the most interesting ways. There is definitely some suspension of disbelief required to accept and go along with the many twists and turns the story takes but the emotional payoff is so rewarding that it’s worth it. It’s hard to talk about the main plot without giving away spoilers but suffice it to say the science fiction aspects are impressive but never overwhelming. Fans new to the genre won’t feel buried with too much jargon or bizarre concepts, just a few.

The romance itself is really lovely. Jorihn and Kell have an instant connection and a nice, if very brief, initial time together. The relationship that forms after Kell reappears as Rally truly becomes intense. Watching the two men dance around each other with obvious chemistry is very entertaining but also somewhat heartbreaking as Rally reaches out to Jorihn for help. The internal struggle and mental anguish rides the line of being too angst-driven but the author has such a deft hand with the drama that it never slides into overwrought. Instead it makes the depth of the characters and their relationship that much more meaningful.

I was surprised and delighted by Flux Orbit and it’s one story I whole heartedly recommend. It’s rare to find a story that has handles both aspects of the plot (romance and sci-fi) so incredibly well without sacrificing one for the other. The writing is stunning, evocative, and truly engaging. I couldn’t put this down!

Drew Hamilton is happy living a quiet life. Becoming a teacher was all he ever wanted and up until a few months ago that was enough to keep him content, that was before Cal Saunders moved in next door and changed everything. Drew feels like his life is spinning out of control, but falling for the tattooed god isn’t in his plans.

Cal knows the well dressed and mild mannered teacher is slumming it to be with a man who makes his living as a tattoo artist. Where he’s rough around the edges, Drew is smooth and sweet, everything Cal’s ever wanted. No matter how much Drew pushes him away, Cal won’t turn his back on what’s happening between them.

He needs to figure it out soon before the only man he’s ever truly loved walks away.

A quiet teacher with a broken heart meets a gorgeous tattoo artist, and is swept away in a sexy whirlwind romance.

Both men’s characters are well depicted, distinct to show their differing personality traits. Drew Hamilton was burned by love in high school, the act freezing his heart and making him always expect the worst when it comes to people interested in him. He’s a teacher and a coach for the girls’s volleyball team, living vicariously through their enthusiasm. Cal Saunders has had no such bad experience, and is thus ready, willing and able to be reckless and wild with his heart and in his relationships. As a tattoo artist, he’s seen it all, and when he sees something he wants, he goes after it, carelessly doling out his love and affection, daring to expect the best possible outcome and a future together. The clash of these differing views on love and life is both erotic and bittersweet.

The plot revolves around the burgeoning relationship and the ensuing (melo)drama. There’s a precarious balance between being emotional and overemotional, between effective drama and overflowing melodrama. This tale dances on that knife’s edge. At times I felt Drew was being a bit over-the-top, crying all the time. Once or twice in a story is fine; after that it becomes excessive and the man feels, well, less manly. That constant crying never strikes me as true for a male character, which is why I couldn’t give this a full five stars. That endless blubbering just took me out of the story.

One thing I found pretty good about the plot twists was that Cal does finally decide Drew has hurt him enough, and leaves. This was a good choice because had he stuck it out with someone who was never going to give him his heart in return would have made Cal far too idealistic in the realism sense. No one really has that kind of patience when heartbroken. For me, that moment was realistic, forcing Drew to take action to change his life. Unyielding support would not have yielded the same results, I think.

Another thing I liked were the supporting characters, Chloe and Brett. They behaved like real people. Chloe has been Drew’s best friend since childhood but even she has her limits of what she can bear from a sullen Drew, and Brett loses patience with a moping Cal, even though they are best friends as well. The realism of friendship, where sometimes you have to kick them in the rear-end, was a nice touch to the tale.

Overall, I found this story to be immersive, sexy, and emotional, mostly in a good way. I was invested in the characters, and the plot moved forward at a reasonable pace. So I recommend this to all those who love M/M romances with emotional depth and lots of hot and heavy moments.

A heart can live a lifetime in eight seconds.

Ever since his father caught him with another boy and threw him out at the tender age of sixteen, Dustin Lewis has been fighting his way up the national bull-riding rankings. He’s on the brink of qualifying for the National Finals when he draws Diablo, a notoriously rank bull—and the ride goes bad.
Thus the blue pills measured as over said to be FDA approved hence many found it safe and secure in use. cialis australia is the perfect remedy that you purely ever can positively believe for those erection issues. When bullfighter Shane Rees frees Dustin from the rigging of the same bull that nearly destroyed his face, he comes dangerously close to dropping his guard. Shane knows the potential consequences of being gay in a sport loaded with testosterone-overdosed cowboys, and the resulting scars of mind and body have left him with little self-worth.

Their near-death-by-bull first meeting sparks an attraction that awakens every last one of their personal demons. Yet as the National Finals draws closer, so do they. But they’ll have to overcome emotional highs, near-tragic lows, and bone-crushing danger before love can bust out of the chute.

Dustin didn’t know that a few seconds on a hellish bull would change his life. Drawing the bull Diablo was not in Dustin’s plans but he tried to make the best of it for his last ride in the rodeo. He barely survived with the help of a bullfighter, Shane. Shane is scarred from his last run-in with Diablo but soon discovers that his chemistry with Dustin is even more dangerous. The two men immediately hit it off but each have their own demons in the past they have to get through before they can truly be together.

Drawing the Devil is a somewhat classic gay cowboy story; two men in the heavily testosterone atmosphere of the rodeo trying to get away from their own pasts and current flaws to find a way to be together. While it probably shouldn’t matter, I find that male authors write very differently than female authors, especially in the gay romance genre. This isn’t a criticism but the language, tone, and feel of the books are very different. I could tell a man wrote DtD with the almost crude language used during the sex scenes. Again it’s not off-putting per se but simply about personal preference. I didn’t like the sex scenes, they felt vulgar with a down and dirty, almost porn kind of vibe. Lots of spit and holes and shoving. Likewise I found the characters very flat. I couldn’t connect with either one of them and didn’t really feel the chemistry and connection between them.

What really worked for the story was the authentic feel of the rodeo and supporting characters offered. I could imagine the scenes with the bulls and cowboys and almost taste the dirt that swirled when the bulls sped through the gate. The author has a real flair for description when it came to these scenes and I quite enjoyed them. I liked that characters were given more depth with their various issues. Between Shane’s scar, which really affected his entire outlook on life, and Dustin’s family past mixed with his ADD, these characters weren’t stereotypical. I didn’t really connect with them but I could appreciate the attempt at adding more depth and complexity to the classic cowboy character.

Overall Drawing the Devil worked for me in some areas and not in others. I found the relationship and sex scenes fell very flat for me but the rodeo setting really drew me in whenever my attention was flagging. I think this would appeal to readers that want a bit of a classic cowboy story but also enjoy the very male style of writing, especially during the graphic scenes. For the right reader I think this could be a real hit.

Can you recapture a lost love?

Thirty-four years ago, they were each other’s first romance. For three magical months, Nate Boltz and Emily Sutherland worked together at a Michigan resort and fell passionately in love. But when the summer ended, Emily moved back home and their relationship faded.

Now Nate is the town’s police chief. When a skeleton is uncovered at the resort, the bones are identified as a girl who disappeared right after that tumultuous summer. Looking for answers, Nate reaches out to the resort’s former staff–including Emily.

But can they find a way forward from the old memories to something more permanent?

Or does the murderer have other plans for the reunited lovers from that magical summer?

Are Nate and Emily truly in love, or just in love with the past?

Nate and Emily certainly have a passionate romance. I think their first encounter with each other is a bit strange. Emily talked about some very personal stuff with a man she hardly knew. Even though I thought this was odd, it is clear right from the start that Nate and Emily have great chemistry, and I looked forward to learning about their epic summer romance. I do think that too much of their relationship revolved around sex. Since they were each other’s first serious relationship, I understand how powerful that physical connection can be, but Nate and Emily spent most of their time together either having sex or talking about it. Even when they were spending time together outside the bedroom, their thoughts still revolved around sex. It became a bit much after a while, and the sexual tension began to lose its impact.

There is also no real explanation as to why Nate and Emily didn’t stay in touch, especially since Emily managed to stay in touch with other people from that summer. After everything they went through, I find it hard to believe that their relationship simply faded into the background. I understand that they would have been trying to make a long distance relationship work in a time before cell phones, email, and the internet, but I would have thought the intensity of their relationship would have warranted more effort on both their parts.

Watching Nate and Emily reconnect was fun and frustrating at the same time. Everyone else in town already knows that they are meant to be together. Nate and Emily never really got over each other and are thrilled at the prospect of reconnecting. However, they are so hung up on the past they can’t decide if what they feel is love or nostalgia for their summer of romance. Nate and Emily jump into a physical relationship almost immediately, making it even harder for them to sort out their feelings. I couldn’t help but shake my head as they alternated between jumping into bed with each other and having fights born out of jealousy and a lack of trust. Despite my frustration with how they handled their relationship, I enjoyed watching Nate and Emily work together to solve the mystery, and their happy ending is well deserved.

I found it pretty easy to figure out who the murderer was. Once clues started emerging, I was able to piece them together pretty quickly. Then it just became a matter of waiting for Nate and Emily to figure it out. I can’t say much about the culprit without spoiling the ending, but I will say it is easy to see why this character got away with everything for so long. I must also warn readers that there is a graphic description of a near rape that is very unsettling. Ms. Wilson paced the mystery very well by alternating chapters between the present and the past. It was a very effective way to gradually reveal the mystery of the past and how it connected to the present.

I enjoyed reading Resorts, Regrets, and Returning to Love. I recommend it to anyone looking for a mystery with a healthy dose of romance.

New York Times bestselling author Kerrelyn Sparks delivers the exciting conclusion in the Love at Stake series, where a Marine-turned-vampire finds love with the shifter princess forbidden to him . . .

Russell wakes from a coma to find he’s become a vampire. Now he has a thirst for revenge. Determined to hunt down the master vampire who turned him, he’s used to working alone . . . until he meets Jia. She is after the same vampire for murdering her parents and insists she can help Russell on this mission.

Reluctantly, he agrees, and sets up some ground rules:

Rule #1: Their partnership is strictly business. If he holds her a little too close . . . if she looks at him with those exotic eyes . . . well, that has to stop.
While correct reasons for male example hairlessness are as yet being contemplated, bringing down DHT levels has been demonstrated to offer assistance. “33% of patients keep up the hair that they have,” says Zeichner, “a third develop hair back, and a third still keep on seeing tadalafil 20mg generic hair diminishing-however regularly the rate of misfortune is short of what they saw some time recently. Rule #2: He’s in charge. Jia isn’t used to taking orders and questions every move he makes. So he stops her the only way he knows how.

Rule #3: Don’t fall in love. But the kiss that was supposed to quiet her awakens something else in him . . . something forbidden. Because Jia is engaged. To someone else.

I can’t believe this is the last book in the series but at least Ms. Sparks is ending it with a bang and with a happy ever after for a character that I’ve been eagerly waiting for what seems like forever. I still remember picking up her first book, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire only because it tickled my funny bone about a vampire that lost a tooth and needed a dentist. I liked her writing style, her voice and the world that she created. It was fresh, unique and one hundred percent entertaining. Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire showcases the very same level of skill and storytelling talent that I’ve come to expect over the years and I’m just as enamored now as I was all those years ago. Ms. Sparks has always delivered romance with a smile although this time my smile is tempered by the sad feelings coming from having to say goodbye to some wonderful friends. Before that happens however, readers are treated to a brilliant and exciting tale.

Russell has been a benevolent yet deadly ghost of a man for quite some time. He is a loner and a man filled with the focus of vengeance for a grievous wrong done to him. And yet, as antisocial as he’s been in all the past books, he has a code of honor and even though he denies it, cares for his comrades. He won’t call them ‘friends’ though and that is one of the issues that Ms. Sparks tackles with her hero. When the cards are laid on the table, what gets revealed is chock full with all kinds of emotions and feelings and complications as well as bittersweet realizations. I liked him as a man, a vampire and as a love interest for the heroine, Jia. My favorite line of his, even though it initially drove Jia nuts was, “I don’t explain myself.” Those four words actually change in tone and subtle meaning as the story progresses because every time Russell says it, it’s in a different situation and at a new point in his and Jia’s relationship. At first it’s gruff and mean and stand offish but after a while, I thought it funny, then endearing and a window into the man himself. I really liked that touch. Russell is a reluctant hero.

Jia is prickly, stubborn and passionate to a fault. She wants justice and revenge as well but being a female, and a royal, means that she’s always being thwarted in her quest, until she meets Russell. Their first meeting was volatile, their relationship is tentative yet their awareness of each other as man and woman is filled with sensual promise. The fun for a reader is in watching them both fight it. Jia is also loyal and fierce but she’s also an innocent in many ways. Watching her come into her own as a woman and as a partner with Russell is pure entertainment and I like to think readers are going to like her as much as I do.

The villain, Master Han, was a diabolical surprise. Ms. Sparks was truly clever in her handling of one of the main plot twists in the series and I was shocked by the revelations. I also saw a bit of Luke Skywalker’s viewpoint about Darth Vader in relation to this story and I thought it to be just as poignant in Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire as it was in Star Wars. Unfortunately, the ending is vastly different. As for other villains, just when you thought all of them were gone, some came back for cameos. Personally, I laughed. I am not sure if other readers will find it as hilarious as I did but I thought it genius. I totally had a giggle fit. And even then there was that one last gasp of ‘oh, please let him be forgiven,’ that crossed my mind even though I knew it wasn’t possible. The crimes were too huge. But that is what the author did, even in the midst of the worst place a person could be, she showed that hope doesn’t die.

Briathos and the gang are back for an encore of cryptic advice and sword action. Russell sure had a crash course in celestial beings but he figured things out pretty quick. He had to, there was a new plot conflict to solve. The abducted dragon child also is in this story as well as the talking owl. Plus Howard, lover of donuts, has a few scenes which I was glad of. I like Howard.

I would not call Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire a standalone read. Too many loose ends from the last book are picked up and tied off in this concluding story. In fact, Ms. Sparks ended with an extravagant party and she invited all the fans of this series to attend. It was an extra special visit because I got to touch base with all of my favorite characters one last time and it solidified that not only will Russell and Jia have a happy ever after but it confirmed that all the prior happy ever afters continue to flourish. It made my heart sing. It made me smile. It made me want to read the WHOLE series all over again.

Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire is just perfect. I enjoyed myself immensely and once started, didn’t stop reading until I read the final ‘thank you’ note from the author which was really sweet. I experienced many different emotions while reading this story. There is a lot going on and each chapter provided more clues as to finding the villain, rescuing the child, Russell and Jia learning about opening up to another person, of letting go and gaining the world and a happy ever after that made me laugh as well as sigh. This book was a flawless ending to a great series. I give Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire a hearty and heartfelt recommend to all the fans of the series; it’s a must read.

In Wonderland the strange and magical is everyday, but when a woman who can’t remember her own name meets a shape-shifting cat, anything can happen.

Mary Ann doesn’t remember her life before she wandered into the Woods of Forgetfulness. She doesn’t remember who she was, where she came from, or even her real name—and she’s given up on anyone coming to look for her. In Wonderland, things are rarely what they seem.

It’s hard to hide the truth forever.

Imagine experiencing desire while having no clue at all if you’ve ever acted on those feelings. Mary Ann’s amnesia is the first thing the reader learns about her, but I didn’t think about all of the repercussion of having no memories of her previous life until she began showing how it was affecting her. There was something about her longing to remember that struck a chord with me. I was intrigued by the new life she’d built. At the same time, though, I really hoped she’d at least get a few clues about her identity. She was so likeable that I couldn’t imagine what it would be like for her to never get find answers she sought.

I definitely didn’t anticipate the plot twist that Ms. Rosewarne had up her sleeve. It worked well with everything that was established early on, but the execution of it was a little abrupt. There was simply so much going on in that section that it would have worked better for me if this had been a novella instead of a short story. Another 20 or 30 pages would have provided enough space to explore everything that was only hinted at in this version. Had those fascinating nooks been given more time to affect Mary Ann’s reality, I would have easily chosen a much higher rating for this tale.

The only thing more fascinating to me than Mary Ann’s blank page of a past were all of the descriptions of what it’s like to work for the White Rabbit. It’s hard to picture two characters with personalities more diametrically opposed than these ones. What surprised me about their business relationship, though, was how they accounted for each other’s weaknesses. They were actually a very good team!

Follow the White Rabbit was a peek into the adult side of Wonderland. It’s a good choice for anyone who’d like to revisit this universe as a grownup.

Fast, unpredictable and in your face, I found the story confusing at times, as much action (and thought) is neither described nor unexplained, and only made clear as one progresses with the story. Readers must willingly be confused and move forward, nonetheless.

The backdrop, and the historic references, are interwoven into the story simply beautifully. The fantastical Flask with its mysterious, hoped-for healing powers ties the paranormal elements very nicely to the history of the place, and adds a certain depth to the mystery. With a hint of romance and (much) more than a hint of danger in the quest, this book, Debruce’s first in her Quicksilver Legacy Series, offers a little of something for everyone, and leaves us all waiting for book 2.

Very readable, and fans of the paranormal might want to give The Riddle of Prague a try.

CL Bledsoe has the world building down pat and people who practically breathe (or in case of the undead, not so much) right off the page. If you like urban fantasy books like Kim Harrison or the Anita Blake series, you’ll fall in love with Daisy and her crew.

This series has won my heart and I want another one soon…

The living may forget certain atrocities, but the dead never will.

Rachel was a fascinating protagonist. Her personality was sketched out quickly, yet it provided enough details about who she is as an individual to keep me interested. She appeared to have many more secrets than she was willing to reveal. As this is the first book in a new series, I will be curious to see if she changes her mind about this in the future.

The romantic subplot happened far too quickly. It wasn’t easy for me to understand why the characters involved in it were happy with this new development in their lives due to how their relationship was described in their introduction. I’m not opposed to seeing sparks between two people who strongly dislike one another, but these cases I do prefer to see some pretty strong arguments made for why they would make a good couple. It’s hard for me to imagine being in a relationship with someone that I couldn’t also see as a close friend.

There’s something melancholy about old, abandoned buildings. They’ve seen so many things, not all of which must have been good. This is even more true when the building in question is an asylum where people suffered horrible fates. It’s the kind of setting that grabs my attention immediately, and I was pleased with how much time the author spent describing what it looked like and why it was so haunted.

I’d recommend Asylum: Ghost Echoes Book 1 to anyone who likes spooky ghost stories.

When Alexis James arrives at her first assignment in months, she anticipates the danger and violence rife in her calling as a Lycan Hunter. What she doesn’t expect is a handsome, blue-eyed wolf saving her life and kidnapping her. Surrounded by the enemy, Alexis must not only survive her prisoners but the bonds of a different sort that begin to form against her will.

Mikko Kyran was chosen by the gods to lead his pack, and he has made it his mission to end the eight thousand years of war plaguing his people. The Alpha never suspected that the key to the prophecy ending the Forever War would be held by a smart-mouthed, sexy Hunter determined to kill him.

Will the tension between Lycans and Hunters end, or explode with renewed hostility?

Ms. Jordan did a brilliant job of crafting a beautiful world full of interesting and unique characters. She clearly spent a lot of time precisely organizing the lifestyles and histories of the gods, Lycans, and Hunters. She even provides a glossary at the end of the book, which I enjoyed. Provided with such excellent detail, I was able to completely immerse myself in the Ms. Jordan’s book.

Alexis definitely has my sympathy. She has spent her entire life trying to prove worth to people who should have loved her unconditionally. Alexis is clearly emotionally damaged from her upbringing. However, I was very pleased to watch her begin to heal once she met Kyran. The Hunter lifestyle is shocking in its stark lack of love or compassion of any kind, so when Alexis meets Kyran’s pack, she experiences a huge cultural shock. After reading the blurb, I expected a lot of opposition concerning Kyran and Alexis from both Hunters and Lycans. However, there was very little opposition from Kyran’s pack. I found this surprising since the Hunters are ruthless in their attempts to eradicate Lycans. However, Kyran’s pack really embrace Alexis as one of their own, which is something Alexis never even experienced with her own family.

I’m not really sure how I feel about the gods. They remind me of the Greek gods in that they are very human in their behavior. The gods and their motivations are extremely murky and they apparently have no qualms about interfering with the lives of Lycans and Hunters alike. The gods also clearly have some big agenda for Alexis and they seem to do whatever they like regardless of whether or not she is ready for it. Lykil, the god of destruction, is the most intriguing god. He has taken a liking to Alexis, and I’m curious to see what role he will play in her life.

I’m not exactly sure what to make of the prophecy regarding Lycans and Hunters. Kyran and Alexis seemed to be on the right track, but that didn’t exactly pan out how I thought it would. Again, the gods are confusing in their behavior. I’m very curious about what happens next to Alexis and Kyran. Are they still the key to ending the war, or have they completely misunderstood the meaning of the prophecy?

I hope Ms. Jordan has a sequel in the works because I have a feeling that once readers get a taste of the Gardinian world, they’ll be hungry for more.
