Sidelined by a career-ending injury, rodeo cowboy Ridge Cooper is desperate to find an outlet for the energy he devoted to his sport. He decides to teach rodeo skills to the kids at the Phoenix House, a local group home for foster children. Here he falls for a big-city girl who just might make him the perfect wife.

Inner-city social worker Sierra Dunn has been exiled to a last-chance home for foster kids in a remote Wyoming town for blowing the whistle on her boss. Her only goal is to prove herself and move back to the city, but the town’s rodeo hero is going after her heart.

Who can resist a cowboy? Certainly not anyone reading this story, and not the heroine Sierra. She and the hero, Ridge had chemistry from the moment they met and it didn’t falter, even when you felt that Sierra had other plans with her life.

The setting is delightful and the secondary characters just as great as the main ones. All of them were well drawn and Ms. Kennedy does a great job making them jump off the page and become real people in your mind.  Ridge is sexy and sweet, and you feel like you want to nudge Sierra in the back letting her know she’s found her soul-mate.

Despite its 400 plus pages, you’ll find yourself reading more and more at each sitting just to see where the author’s taking these two next.  In the end love, a town’s community spirit, and some kids with a mind of their own, bring the story to a sweet conclusion.

If you like stories featuring cowboys and small towns, I think you’ll find this a fun read.

Well, that’s what she was afraid of! Hardworking estate agent Natasha Gordon finds her reputation in tatters when an ad she created gets bungled. She’ll do anything to restore her good name—even beg seriously sexy artist Darius Hadley to give her another chance to sell his ancestral home. Only, he drives a hard bargain: Natasha must pose naked, for his eyes only…!

He’s asking Natasha to take him on trust. But she’s learned the hard way not to trust men—particularly those she’s working with…and let alone men she’s taking her clothes off for!

Darius’s next outrageous statement? “I will, too—if it will make it easier for you.…”

One artist, one disgraced real estate agent…what ill can come of this? None!

This is my first foray into the world of Liz Fielding, but it won’t be my last. The writing is crisp and the characters are quite memorable. I couldn’t put this book down once I started it. I needed to know what would happen next.

I got emotionally invested in these characters. At times I loved them. At other times, I wanted to bonk both over the head. Natasha has some issues in her past which added nicely to the rounding of her character. I liked that she was normal and had regular problems. But one thing that drove me a little nutsy about her was her tendency to over-think situations. I understood she was good at her job, but I wished she’d done a little less thinking and a little more acting on what she wanted. But I understood her, so it wasn’t a bad read. Not at all.

I quite honestly loved Darius. This guy is an overload of thinking, but he’s very sexy and knows what he wants–he’s just not sure how to keep what he wants. I could understand him and rooted for him.

There is definite heat in this book. If you’re looking for a quick read that will hold your interest for a couple of hours, then this might be the book for you.

The Well of Being: a children’s book for adults is an illustrated inquiry into the pursuit of happiness, and what it means to be radically alive in our daily moments. This adult picture book takes its reader on a quest for well‐being and self‐acceptance, following the story of a wondering everyman. The projective tale summons the reader’s inner child as a complimentary vehicle to drive the plot through bold reflection and earnest doubt. Assisted by cosmic perspective, the faceless protagonist sets out to retrieve the deep self-comfort and inner wellness lost along life’s way.

Is happiness a choice? Come take a contemplative journey through lessons children know but adults have long since forgotten as you explore this question.

To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started reading this tale. The blurb piqued my curiosity as soon as I read it, though, and within a few pages I knew this is something I will be revisiting over and over again. I was especially interested in how open the author is to people from any religion. His message transcends the normal boundaries between religions and seems to be specifically designed to appeal to anyone who has ever attempted to improve the world around them.

My sole criticism of an otherwise wonderful story has to do with how quickly the author assumes that what he has to say won’t be useful to people who don’t believe in any gods. Given how inclusive his later discussions are about how to reframe our perceptions and quell our anxieties, I see no reason not to market this message to everyone. The few sections that assume a shared belief in the supernatural can easily be reframed for those who don’t agree with them due to how flexible the definitions of terms like Oneness have already become.

The illustrations that accompany each page are absolutely beautiful. They fit the understated tone and peaceful theme perfectly. Looking at them make me wish I had a hardcover copy of it because it’s the type of book that deserves to be proudly displayed in one’s home.

Take the time to explore the endnotes after the final scene ends. Some of the notes in it are about topics that virtually every adult has heard of, but others mention people, places, and things that were new to this reader. It was a real pleasure to thumb through it and catch references that I missed the first time around.

Don’t be fooled by the word count. The Well of Being: A Children’s Book for Adults can easily be read in one sitting. Like all timeless picture books, it’s as mesmerizing the second, third, and fourth time around as it was the first.

Striking the right note could shatter more than their hearts.

After an attack that slaughtered his family, vampire Dragan Zajicek walled off his heart and went on a sixteen-hundred-year rampage with the bad boys of history.

Now a rock star of the concert podium and master freelance spy, he’s taken the baton for a small orchestra near Chicago to investigate rumors of a monstrous, undefeatable vampire dubbed the Soul Stealer.

As a matter of fact, according to the January Issue of the Archives of Neurology, senior citizens that participated in moderate exercise on a regular basis makes your look and feel better, which increases your opinion on yourself, which ultimately boosts up your confidence and makes you feel you can do buy viagra overnight anything you set your mind to. Impotence leads to significant anxiety and on line levitra angst among men and their partner. But it’s the lovely, unassuming Raquel “Rocky” Hrbek who mesmerizes him from the first touch of her luscious lips on her flute.

Rocky, a shy shadow scarred by middle school cruelty, is mystified as to why core-meltingly gorgeous Dragan would notice a mouse like her. As his stolen kisses draw her dangerously close to the edge of her carefully constructed comfort zone, he exposes her secret—she’s investigating the monster herself.

As their quest draws them closer together, the monster zeroes in on the woman Dragan’s rebellious heart tells him is his mate. Now they must find a way to destroy the indestructible before Rocky is utterly consumed. And Chicago is bathed in the blood of innocents.

Downbeat is the latest offering in the Biting Love series of Mary Hughes. Filled with the quirks and kitsch present in this series, Downbeat offers readers a glimpse into the Meiers Corners society, both human and vampire.

Meiers Corners is home to quaint old world German sensibilities, quirky characters and hotbed of vampire activity. When the conductor of the small orchestra that has its home in the area is incapacitated, a guest conductor comes to work with them, world renowned Maestro Dragan Zajicek. Flutist Raquel ‘Rocky’ Hrbek has followed his career, and can’t quite believe he is there to lead them. She also know things about Meiers Corners that her friends have tried to keep quiet; the existence of vampires in their quirky little town. She is fascinated by Dragan, and he is attracted to Rocky, in spite of his belief that he is not worthy of finding love, believing he failed his family centuries before.

When danger, in the form of a super powerful Soul Stealer vampire, comes to the area, it will take all that the vampires of the Iowa Coalition cam muster to find this vampire’s weakness in order to defeat him. Can Dragan, Rocky and the rest of the Coalition stop the Soul Stealer before the monster destroys them all? Will Rocky be able to resist Dragan’s romantic advances, and does she even want to? Can Dragan get over the past and grab his one chance at true love and happiness with Rocky?

The world Ms. Hughes has created keeps expanding, reaching out to include more of the unique residents of the town, and adding to the vampire population as well. I enjoy this world for the humor and romance, and this has the added benefit of showing readers, finally, a peek at the elusive leader of the coalition, Mr. Elias.

Raquel ‘Rocky’ Hrbek is quiet, shy and unassuming, with no idea how attractive and tempting she is. When Dragan pursues her, she doesn’t understand his attention, but she is willing to go along, because she has idolized the Maestro for years. Rocky knows about vampires in her town, although her friends have tried to keep her in the dark. I enjoyed watching as Dragan slowly penetrated Rocky’s defenses, and brought her out of her shell. I also love Rocky’s attempts to get her friends to admit to what she already knows, that vampires exist and walk among the citizens of Meiers Corners. I love her references to ‘v-guys’ throughout the book, and the many ways her friends try to distract her.

Dragan Zajicek is handsome, daring and strong. Due to his past, he believes he is not worthy of being loved, and sees himself alone for the rest of his very long life. When he meets Rocky, he realizes she is his one true love, but is not willing to be more than a temporary fling for her. I loved watching as he and Rocky grew closer, and the many ways he showed Rocky how special she is to him. And it was a delight to see Rocky work through his issues, and finally convince this strong, risk taking and courageous vampire to take one more chance…on love.

This book features the most dangerous enemy of the ‘good v-guys’ to ever appear in the Biting Love series, the Soul Stealer. He is almost invincible, and it takes everyone working together to finally find his weaknesses and defeat him. I liked catching up with old friends such as Nixie, Elena and the vampires they love, and I was delighted with the first real glimpse of the elusive Mr. Elias, and what an intriguing glimpse that turned out to be. Of course, there is plenty of steamy passion, and sexy interludes in unusual places for Rocky and Dragan, and there’s a double date with Rocky’s mom as part of the second couple that is a really hilarious bit of adventure. This one made me laugh out loud, brought me to tears, and made me sigh at the more than happy ending. I highly recommend this one, as well the rest of Ms. Hughes’ Biting love series. Be prepared to laugh, cry, giggle, sigh and fall in love with Meiers Corners.

He’ll do whatever it takes to prove he can be the honorable husband she deserves—and the passionate lover she desires. As the snowdrifts deepen outside their ancestral home, can they rekindle the flame that burned so bright and find a new path to forever?

The start of a fun new series and a great ride!

I like a book that holds my attention and makes me want to keep reading, despite the late hour. This was one such book. I had to know what would happen. Lily Dalton’s writing flowed well and she engrossed me with the fine tale.

This is a book of second chances. Lady Sophia’s husband is known for being a bad boy. She shouldn’t want to love him. Shouldn’t want his touch. And yet, she does. I respected her desires. A first love is a very strong love. Ms. Dalton conveys this emotion in the story quite well. What I had a slight issue with was Sophia’s tendency to believe rumors rather than find out the truth. I liked her, but I wished she’d have been a tad stronger.

Vane is interesting as well. He’s got a reputation and in the Ton, everything is gossiped about. I felt for him because yeah, he was a man about town before the marriage, but he actually seemed pretty upstanding. The fact that he wanted his wife back–especially after what happened–was quite nice. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I could understand why these two broke apart and why they had a hard time reconnecting.

I did enjoy the ending and how these two sorted through the rest of the book. It’s worth the read. Grab a copy.

FIVE MUST HAVES IN EVERY MYSTERY NOVEL
My genre is: Fiction, Mystery, Woman Sleuth, subgenre gay, lesbian. My series is Shirley Combs/Dr. Mary Watson. Shirley is asexual, and Mary thought she was until the second book when she discovers her latent lesbianism. Both books have gay and lesbian characters. The second book features a woman who was raised as a boy.

So, what are the five musts every story in my genre should have? In my opinion:

1. A murder. The victim must have several people in her or his life who would be willing to kill.

2. A complicated, but not confusing, plot. Red herrings should be employed, and actual clues dropped, along the way. The reader wants to solve the mystery, but not too soon.

3. Engaging protagonists. In my case, I have Shirley who is the detective, and Mary who is her sidekick and narrator. At least one of them should be a person the reader might like, and would want to learn more about.

However, since on cialis line increases the blood circulation in the body, which involve the signals from the nervous system and the brain to react to sexual arousal which may lead to certain complications. Therefore, it is important to consider levitra on line sales the proper treatment on time. 4. Relevance to the reader. I want my stories to resonate with my readers. My audience is intelligent, interested, and interesting. They are a bit left of center in their politics, and are up on current events. They teach me about what they do and don’t want to hear from me.

5. A “B” story. Yes, readers want to know about the murder, its victim(s), and to follow the clues to the resolution. They also want more: character arc, transformation, maybe a love story. Notice I didn’t say sex. Lots of lesbian mysteries do contain sex, sometimes explicit. In The Illustrious Client you’ll encounter some love scenes, but I don’t do explicit. I include only those scenes I think are necessary for the story. I’m not trying to steal from the authors who write erotica, after all.

I like to include information about Portland because I live here. It’s a beautiful place with great people, the world’s largest bookstore (Powell’s), indie bookstores (Another Read Through, Broadway Books, In Other Words, and many more), so many good places to dine, including our thousands of food trucks, even a covered bridge in the city limits. I like to read about other places, other settings. In addition to US authors, I enjoy Val McDermid, Denise Mina, and Ian Rankin (Scotland), Ruth Rendell (England), Henning Mankell (Sweden), Donna Leon (Venice), and Colin Cotterell (Laos and Thailand). This is a small sampling of authors who write about places I’ve been or want to go to.

There are lots of writers here in Portland. I like to think of it as the US version of Ireland. Have you read Chelsea Cain, Lori L. Lake, Bill Cameron, Chuck Pahlniuk, Ursula LeGuin? There are book readings, poetry slams, writing workshops, every week. There is a coffeehouse on almost every corner, not all of them Starbucks. I’ve read a couple of times at the Rain or Shine Coffee House, which is walking distance from my chair. If you can’t come visit me, at least visit Portland in my books.

“First Lady Kills President Lovinggood”
December 29, 2018

Thirty years later Hank Lovinggood embarks on a quest to prove his mother’s innocence and punish the killers who took his family from him. Together Hank and lovely physicist Kathryn Sinclair confront an implacable, twisted, merciless enemy who’ll do whatever it takes to hide the truth forever.

If you like a good time travel story (with a twist … since none of the times in this story are contemporary — the earliest was 2018) and some sweet romance, then Blue 52 might be a good choice for you.

I enjoyed this book, primarily for the characters. While Hank and Kathryn are the main characters, Ms. Cantrell populates the book with plenty of colorful, three dimensional secondary characters. Hank’s grandfather is great, though his grandmother annoyed me pretty consistently. I loved his father, when we finally get to meet him. Definitely presidential material!

The plot is relatively complex and although even 2048 feels pretty similar to current day, there are enough things put in that the reader is made aware that things aren’t contemporary, from longer life spans to … well… time travel.

The author’s way with words is great, and it really kept me turning pages. She’s not heavy handed with description, but I could always picture where I was. The romance is sweet, and while the couple do consummate their relationship, it’s off the page.

I thought the ending was handled very well, and I was pleased at how the author handled the effects of time travel. Yes, things were changed in the past, so the future was also changed, but it all made good sense to me.

For an enjoyable read with a relatively plausible plot (as long as you can believe time travel is possible), and a sweet and touching romance, I recommend Blue 52. I enjoyed it very much and will be on the lookout for more from this author.

A mysterious photograph, lethal swans, gushy beds and a kitschy lovers resort in the Pocono Mountains.

Can you say single woman in hell?

Lexi Sheridan doesn’t believe in true love. It’s a fantasy found only in old Hollywood movies. She’s a journalist trying to climb the professional ladder and work her way into a national news organization. When a mysterious old photograph lands in her lap, it could be her ‘golden ticket’ to that coveted news job.

That photo leads her to the Heart River Inn, a lovers’ resort nestled in the wilds of the Pocono Mountains. The resort is a kitschy place that she at first finds nauseatingly filled with fake couples in love. However, after only a few days interviewing guests, her jaded soul begins to see things with a new perspective.

Skipping unhealthy food is should be treated as a major part of their identification. tadalafil free shipping At the Heart River Inn, Lexi encounters a soft-hearted owner with a secret past, a hot manager, lethal swans, attack curtains, and an assortment of couples you won’t soon forget.

Humor is at the heart of Jocie McKade’s novella Heart River Inn. Main character Lexi is one of those likable and humorously accident-prone ladies who seem hell-bent on one course of action, even while another lies easily open before her. She’s a journalist, a good journalist, and a few minor mishaps are not going to force her to change course.

She’s not one for ‘romance’ and doesn’t believe in the mushiness of love. No, she is utterly intent on digging skeletons out of closets. In the meantime, she’s tripping around this resort-slash-love nest, as totally the odd woman out.

An excerpt delivers a great look at her perceptions:

Dinner was hell. It was the most indescribable form of forced humiliation I have ever experienced. The dining room featured community seating, which meant “single girl stuck alone at a table full of couples.” Most were polite enough not to ask, but then there was Jimmy. The dark haired man with the thick Brooklyn brogue had no problem delving into my apparent singleness.

“So, where’s your husband?” he grunted out between large bites of lasagna. “Sick or something? Gotta be sick, cause no man in his right mind would let something that looks like you eat alone, especially not in a place where the men walk in the door horny.”

I reached into my bag for a hallucinogenic and found only an antihistamine…

The underlying thread of comedy persists wonderfully throughout. Characters are strong, opinionated, endearing, and even lovable.

I have to admit, I struggled to develop some interest in reading much beyond the opening in this story. Although the beginning is refreshingly direct with the promise of a very original approach…it doesn’t really grab the reader. However, perseverance pays off–mostly because Lexi is funny and genuinely likable. This story is a charming diversion. Snappily written – do read.

The city council has taken advantage of that and decided to eliminate the position of duke and make the city a republic. Korinna now has few options and she decides to join Galenos’s mercenary company and, if she is lucky, tame a wild marewing.

This is an exciting and engaging story with plenty of adventure. I really liked both Korinna and Galenos and watching them try to reclaim their kingdom was fascinating. The political intrigues are rampant and the council makes such radical changes that it leaves Kyratia open to invasion by their neighbors.

The story line is complex, with lots of twists and turns. However, the point of view shifts with every chapter, and while this does allow the reader to learn about events that occur in a variety of locations, it also kept me from really bonding with any of the characters. Many of the chapters are told from either Korinna’s or Galenos’s point of view, but there are also a lot of chapters from the point of view of others, such as Varranor, Galenos’s brother, Eutychon, a councilor, Herokha, a council spy, Pelagia, the council leader, and so forth. I found the continual switching of the point of view made it easy to put the book down after each chapter. I liked the story and it was exciting, but when I saw that the next chapter had moved to someone else, I would pick that as an easy stopping spot.

Korinna is a very engaging heroine and I really enjoyed getting to know her. It is never easy to have one’s life turned upside-down and she has a number of very difficult challenges, but her drive and determination keep her going during even the worst times.

Fantasy readers will certainly enjoy getting to know Korinna as she learns the joys and challenges of bonding with a marewing.

But some misfortune on the one hand and lucky coincidence on the other brought them together. It was their destiny to meet, and to fall in love. Sophie Taylor is a high school history teacher who is used to living a quiet life, that is until she became the personal assistant of a famous country singer Beaumont (Beau) Walker. But Sophie is not a doormat; on the contrary she is clever, full of wit and she knows how to deal with Beau’s moods and how to put him in place.

Beau lives a big life, on the stage and in his private life; he can be moody and he does not know what love is until he meets Sophie. Love makes both of them different, love changes them. I love the way their relationship progressed and developed and the ending is so dramatic, romantic and heartbreaking at the same time. Besides great relationship development, this story has great secondary characters who are alive, three dimensional and funny.

I enjoyed A Song for Sophie tremendously. It is so well written. It doesn’t leave loose ends and it culminates in a big satisfying, feel good HEA ending. A must read.
