Eve’s mission is to rescue cyborgs from termination centers on Earth. She is blindsided by the overwhelming attraction that draws her to one of them. He’s handsome, sexy, and she wants him, craves his touch as she has no other. She must send him to freedom but she makes him promise to wait for her.

Blackie cannot forget the courageous woman who saved him. He never learned whether she died during the rebellion or just changed her mind about leaving with him but he holds her within his lonely heart. He exists to serve the Cyborg Council and protect the new world cyborgs have created. This changes when he discovers the woman who haunts his dreams is alive and the cyborg leaders left her behind to die. He’ll never lose her again and he’ll fight his own kind to avenge and keep her.

Ms. Dohner is one of my go to authors when I’m looking for a book that will completely capture my interest. This one was romantic; true love reunited. The plot was exciting with some great suspense. As usual, Ms. Dohner created strong and vibrant characters that pulled me right into the story. Last but not least …. the writing was exceptional. Haunting Blackie is another fantastic book.

As we all know, Blackie has been a bit of a villain in some previous books. Enough so that I wondered how Dohner would redeem him when it came his turn. Yet redeem him she did. Not only did he fall hard and fast for his lady, but he was wonderful in his support of her. We also see another side of him that explains a few things, gives some validation to his actions, so to speak. He has some regrets, and wants to make things right for everybody. So really, we see an honor in Blackie this time around. Of course, I liked that Dohner gave him a softer side here.

I think it’s safe to say that I loved Eve. She was an awesome mate for Blackie; fierce, passionate and loyal. I liked what she brought to the series. Dohner opened up a world of possibilities with this newest revelation. I for one, am hoping for more stories along this line. I think this may be in the cards with Danica, Eve’s sister.

Dohner is keeping the series fresh and creative. She seems to be taking it in an exciting new direction with the things that were revealed in this one. The story telling was strong. It flowed seamlessly, with a conflict that was intense. I liked the glimpse into the internal dynamics of the Cyborg society, as well. Most of all, I loved the romantic relationship between Blackie and Eve. It was hard for me to embrace Blackie as a hero I could love. But the author pulled this off brilliantly. Bravo ! I loved it.

I think that Haunting Blackie is a great story. It continues the series in an innovative way, and it opens up even more creative opportunities for lucky readers. The Cyborg series took some new and interesting turns with this latest book. I liked the new element that was introduced to the series. We discover that the Cyborgs have more than a few secrets to hide. Some not so honorable deeds and that some will do anything to bury the truth. So there was some great conflict here.

Overall, this was a great book for Dohner fans. Even if you are one of the unfortunate few who haven’t discovered this awesome author …. you will still love this book. Just beware that you will be hooked. So get it and enjoy it like I did. I loved it and I am recommending it to everyone.

Morgan Kane: Texas Ranger, unmatched gunslinger, cool poker hand, and hot-blooded lover of women. At the tender age of 16, he avenged the murders of his parents. Ever since, he’s lived by one code: kill or be killed.

Kane is unpredictable, impulsive, and reckless, but Major Monroe of the Rangers puts up with his drinking, his violence, and his erratic work ethic – because his skills as a gunman outweigh his vices.

Without Mercy begins with a poker game. Kane is a born gambler: he can’t resist a big pot. Con men lure him into a trap, using a ravishing seductress, Allison MacKay, as the bait. Her beauty proves too tempting. Kane falls into her clutches.

He’s shot, thrown from a train, and left for dead. Big mistake. As Kane himself said, “When you shoot a man, you better make sure he’s dead.”

A star-shaped scar will forever mark his right hand, a scar to match the Ranger’s star he carries. But that’s Kane’s gun hand. The gun hand of a Ranger is the difference between life and death–are you faster than the man shooting at you?

The stakes are high this time.

Kane is gambling with his life.

Can he survive?

Morgan Kane Without Mercy is a fun read and pure escapism from the daily grind. I really enjoyed the character of Morgan Kane. He’s tough and smart and you feel yourself cheering for his survival when he’s shot and thrown from a moving train.

I did have one issue with the book, and  I’m not sure if this was a problem with the Norwegian to English translation, but the story jumped from head to head in lots of places and didn’t flow smoothly in others. While it’s jarring, I wouldn’t let it put you off reading this story.  It’s an entertaining read because you get a little piece of history thrown into every chapter about how tough life once was for everyone, and just surviving another day was a great achievement.

The other characters were fun to read about too. Like all good westerns, you have the good guys versus the bad ones and you find yourself reading on to see if justice prevails.

It looks like there will be more of the Morgan Kane novels and I’ll definitely be reading them. And if you haven’t read a western for some time or want to give this genre a try, this would be a good pick.

Knee-deep in the investigation of three missing women, he continues to mess with her mind and toy with her safety. Will The Player finally capture the object of his obsession or will she escape him yet again?

Jess Harris is a mess. As long as Eric Spears is in the wind, neither she nor her team is safe. When you add in the secret she’s keeping from everyone, well, she’s a ticking time bomb waiting to have a meltdown. While she doesn’t quite have a meltdown, she is much more vulnerable in this installment which was a nice change of pace. I love a good, strong heroine, especially one like Jess who doesn’t take anything off of anybody, but it’s good to see that they’re human as well.

It’s probably very wrong of me, but I’m a bit obsessed with Eric Spears myself. I’m not sure just what it is about him, if it’s that on the surface, he seems to be such a normal guy with a disturbing pastime, or if it’s his outright audacity in how he approaches Jess time and again. He’s a brilliant villain, that much is certain. The way he works events and places from her past into his current killing spree was absolutely cunning and wicked.

Debra Webb does it again with Vicious. I don’t know how she keeps bringing the intensity and depravity so consistently, but I am not complaining one bit. The only downside to this series is that each and every novel ends on a nail-biter of a cliffhanger, forcing you to wait in agony for the next installment. Which, in reality, is very good thing. What’s life without a little anticipation, right? I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a powerful mystery or an exceedingly suspenseful romance. The Faces of Evil series has moved to the top of my favorites list!

Where do you yearn to be in the face of danger? In the arms of a man bound to serve, to protect and to love…

Librarian Melanie Falconer knows too well the horrors of war. Military men, as far as she’s concerned, are off the marriage menu. As maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding, she makes a mall run and lands straight into the arms of seriously hot marine Matt Frasier, the best man.

Matt has seen too much violence, and his heavy attraction to Melanie promises to soothe his soul and set his body on fire. But when gunfire erupts, the game is on, and Melanie and Matt fight for their lives—and the heat exploding between them.

Melanie Falconer couldn’t help the heated fantasies she kept having about Matt Frasier. Bridesmaid and best man together, they were thrown together frequently as preparations for their friends’ wedding drew closer. At the mall for some last minute shopping, gunfire shocks them both. Running for their lives, the chemistry and need both Melanie and Matt have been fighting finally explodes. Thrown together with only each other to help survive, things certainly heat up between them.

This is an excellent story. I loved how Ms. Agnew used the tension like a master. Hiding with a maniac gunman loose, Melanie and Matt cling to each other, but also talk. Where so many stories would have had them ripping their clothes off and falling into the less-realistic, fantasy scenario I was pleasantly surprised how the author used this tension to allow the hero and heroine to get to know each other. I felt it made the progression of the story a lot more realistic and the chemistry and sexual build up was delicious and perfectly balanced between fantasy and romantic.

I also really enjoyed how neither character was perfect. Both Melanie and Matt had their own issues and baggage to work through and overcome. I thought this gave them both a far more realistic (and relatable) sense in their characters. Coupled with the action and the depth of their getting to know each other before jumping into bed together. When Melanie and Matt came together – even initially for their first kiss – the passion and release of chemistry between them that had been built up so much made the satisfaction I received from reading it that much better. Ms. Agnew is a master of pacing to my mind, it was fast enough that I didn’t get impatient or feel like the story dragged, but was slow enough to build up to a real need, a want to see Melanie and Matt come together.

Ms Agnew is certainly an author I plan to read more of, and I can strongly recommend this book for readers who enjoy adventure and tension mingled in with their smoking hot, explicit sex scenes. I found Melanie and Matt both really well drawn and interesting characters, and the pacing of the plot was amazing. Definitely a book I’d reread and an author I plan to experience again.

Working side by side leads to a complicated dance of almost-moments, until their repressed urges finally break free. But just as Trevor begins to think staying for good might be the right path, Callie closes herself off, afraid to believe in promises…even Trevor’s.

Friends. They get you through times of need. They make you laugh. Sometimes, they make you cry, or angry. What happens when friends have feelings that cross that “friendly” boundary and neither is sure what to do about it?

Trevor has had enough heartache to last a long time, but the hits keep coming. Now, it’s just Trevor and his high school aged sister, learning how to survive without their parents. They are confused, grieving, lost, and even a little angry. I could feel Trevor’s pain right away. The beginning of this story has a big emotional punch that sucked me in right away. I wanted to know how time would heal their wounds, and how love makes its play.

That waiting time doesn’t take long. Enter Callie. Once the bad girl, she’s now working to save her business, and Trevor re-enters her life at a perfect time. He needs a little distraction, and she could use the help. Could it be the friendship is going to be tested by other feelings neither of them expect? I like Callie. I can connect with her on various levels. She’s got a lot to get through because she’s got feelings for Trevor and his sister isn’t too fond of her. She’s already dealing with enough, so this could get interesting….Oh and it does.

Flight Risk is a sweet story about two friends that have lost so much, but they could gain so much more if they open their hearts to love. Full of emotion, a little heat and some great banter, this made for a great read. The characters were developed well, the pacing quick and I found myself cheering them on as they struggled their way through life, love, and heartache.

If you’re looking for a contemporary romance with a friends to lovers theme, I suggest picking up a copy of Flight Risk.

An extraordinary portrait of true love that will move anyone who has a first love story of their own. Axi Moore is a “good girl”: She studies hard, stays out of the spotlight, and doesn’t tell anyone how all she really wants is to run away from it all. The only person she can tell is her best friend, Robinson–who she also happens to be madly in love with.

But the adventure quickly turns from carefree to out of control after the teens find themselves on the run from the police. And when Robinson suddenly collapses, Axi has to face the truth that this trip might be his last.

A remarkably moving tale very personal to James Patterson’s own past, FIRST LOVE is testament to the power of first love–and how it can change the rest of your life.

Good girl Axi Moore is about to shock the world – and herself – by doing the unthinkable. Abandoning her father, her perfect grades, and everything else she’s ever held dear, she’s about to propose an adventure to her best friend – and one true love – Robinson. What starts out as a fun getaway from life and obligations soon turns to something much darker. Will love be enough to see Axi through?

Axi Moore and I are an awful lot alike. Good students, good kids, and living life on the straight and narrow. What Axi possesses that I’ve always lacked was an adventurous streak. I found it curious that such a self-proclaimed good girl would drop everything, risking her father’s displeasure as well as her GPA, just to take a spontaneous trip across the country. Love or not, it seemed odd to me. However, as the story unravels, you begin to understand more and more of Axi’s motivation behind what she’s doing. It becomes less of a shock and more of a last-ditch effort to prove herself to Robinson. Axi is one heck of a woman for a teenager.

Robinson is every teenager’s dream as well as every father’s nightmare. High school dropout and car thief supreme, Robinson is charming, witty, and unequivocally devoted to Axi Moore. The story of how two very different kids became such good friends nearly broke my heart. However, it gives you hope when you realize that after all they’ve been through, they are still completely devoted to one another, their friendship, and possibly more. By the end of the novel, Robinson has moved from simply a juvenile delinquent to a very passionate, surprising young man.

Knowing that First Love has root in James Patterson’s own past only makes the story more gripping, more poignant in the end. First Love will run you through all the emotions you own – I found myself laughing one minute, worrying for Axi and Robinson the next, and crying more often than I want to admit to. In spite of all the tears I shed, I found myself uplifted and thankful for having read this novel. One of the best things I’ve read in a long time without a doubt.

Nanny/companion romances are one of my favorite sub-genre in romance novels, so I never miss the chance to indulge in one when on crosses my path. His Love is a relatively short story, but it is packed with everything from sex to industrial espionage. And in this case I have to say that “less is more” and “keep it short and simple” would have a better effect in the end.

His Love flows nicely and the plot is well developed. In the technical sense, the story is crafted nicely and it is definitely not a boring read. Unfortunately I had a problem with some other things in this book.  I had a lot of question marks — “what just happened, why, how?” But what I really missed from the story are these two particular and crucial moments, first I cannot pinpoint when the hero and heroine fell in love and second it is not quite clear how and when the hero restored his relationship with his daughter. On the other hand there is this one beautiful scene that melted my heart and shattered it into hundred pieces. Because of that powerful scene, I did not gave up on His Love. The other thing I liked in this story is that the author stepped out from the typical default frame of the nanny story – in which nannies are usually poor girls, without social support and no life experience. The heroine, Rayne, is everything but that, and because of that uniqueness His Love is worth reading.

If you are looking for a quick and different read featuring a nanny, new beginnings, redemptions, fast love and hot sex, look no futher.

Jack is a very interesting and flawed character. I enjoyed seeing the lengths that Jack is willing to go in order to win Sara over.

Sara is an amazing example of a good Femdom. The emotions evoked by the rejections in Sara’s past really brought out some serious sympathy on my part. Ms. York does a great job intertwining the BDSM and showing that woman can be the dominant partner in a relationship and that it can be just as hot as a male dominant.

There is a lot of geek speak that added humor to the story and made my inner geek very happy. This is a sweet but very hot erotic romance. The story easily held me captive and kept me reading in one sitting.

I really enjoyed the interaction between these two characters and the way Sara worked so hard to help Jack and he worked so hard to get her to fall in love with him as much as he already loves her. Sara could be a bit abrupt and a tiny bit abrasive but I honestly thought that it made her more real. With the way she’s been rejected and treated in the past, I would have been annoyed if she’d been perfect and unaffected instead she had very real human flaws that I enjoyed.

I definitely recommend this story and truly believe it could be read all by itself. It’s a great story from an author and I will make a habit to check out more from her in the future.

They instinctively know when the other needs to face a harsh truth, and when to simply supply a shoulder to cry on. It was a pleasure watching them help each other heal.

There is a bit of an unexpected complication toward the end of the story that I really didn’t see coming. I won’t give away any details, but I will say that the situation could have turned out very badly. Fortunately Tamara and Ashford handle the problem very well. They are truly partners, and they worked in perfect harmony to resolve the situation quickly. Tamara’s role in the solution had a bit of a humorous twist that had me smiling.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Twelve Day of Christmas. It is a beautiful story of healing, hope, and love. Fans of sweet, historical romance should certainly pick up a copy.

Natalia Montalvo has been divorced for a year. Even though she knew her ex would attend the charity ball, she needed to prove to herself she just didn’t care anymore. After settling that old demon she goes onto the balcony for some air. Jared hated the fakeness of these events – people who smile charmingly at your face then rip into you viciously behind your back. Just as ruthless as many of them, Jared never pretended to be something he was, and he hated the masks so many others wore. Escaping to the balcony, he and Natalia meet each other and strike up a conversation. Sparks sizzle between them, and suddenly both Natalia and Jared are very glad they came to the ball.

I really enjoyed this short story. I love how the author doesn’t rush the meeting or getting-to-know-you period between Natalia and Jared. We’re privy their conversation and the slow build of chemistry between them. Unlike many other books, this one doesn’t skimp on how Natalia and Jared are coming together – there’s no rush to “seal the deal” but a gradual progression that is refreshing to read.

There are no real surprises in the plot, but that’s not really what I took away from this book. It’s the characters, their interactions and how two people can overlook their pain and trust once again in their heart. Even though the plot was simple, I enjoyed Natalia’s revenge of walking back into the ballroom with such a handsome, charming man on her arm. Even though the pace of the story is a tad slow, this is a lovely book with vibrant descriptions of how Natalia and Jared meet, come together and start that slow, romantic path toward love. It’s an excellent, romantic story with only hints of teasing and chaste kisses – perfect for those who prefer their romance slow and sensual.

I found this to be an interesting and romantic story, filled with richly drawn characters and an easy, relaxed pace. One of those stories you can share with friends and family alike – not one you need to hide away – it’s a wonderful start to what I’m sure will be a long-lasting, romantic and loving relationship. Chaste but still sensual and full of electric chemistry, I think this will appeal to a wide range of readers. Recommended.
