From the beginning the author did a great job of showing Neo’s inner turmoil. He seemed like a compassionate man at heart, but could not or would not show that to those around him. I was happy to see that Michael helped bring out the man that I knew was inside. The character development was really remarkable all the way through the very end of the story. Though Michael was created to be the perfect mate for Neo, even that can have draw backs. It also leads to a lot of secrecy and twists within the story that really left me guessing. Even after I got some of the answers I was still thinking and wondering if there wasn’t more, which evidenced great writing ability on the author’s part.

This story also had a wide array of secondary characters. I especially liked Gunnar. I would love to see him get his own story, which I am sure he will since he is in a need of a great big hug (and maybe a little more). I do not want to say too much about him and ruin it, but I’m sure you’ll fall in love with him and a few other characters.

Trust me when I say: do not waste any time in picking up this story.

A Fistful of Emmett by Jambrea Jo Jones is a captivating read with engaging protagonists and a compelling storyline. Emmett Longley and Kit Younger are multidimensional characters whose new and surprising relationship unfolds at a leisurely pace. Emmett’s easygoing and laidback personality gives him the patience he needs as he waits for Kit to come to terms with his bewildering new attraction to another man. A Fistful of Emmett is well written and realistic, and Ms. Jones delivers the perfect ending for this endearing story.

The first thing that drew me in and stood out was the dialect, which gave a flare of modern day “real people” feeling to the story, and the characters just jumped out at me with their personality. I did have to put the book down for a minute and get on the computer to find out about the old Kinsey continuum of sexuality, just to see if I could find any input. This story was a wild ride and a lot of “hey what the hell”; I think it was a new and well plan plot, which is why I will be adding Tara Lain to my list of favorite authors. I definitely fell in love with her writing style and imagination. She had such a refreshing plot that will stay with me a long time and I think is well worth the money to add to your library.

I was pulled into this story right from the start. Nika is a strong and feisty woman who can and will stand on her own two feet. In under a year she has relocated, bought and opened a pub and lost a boyfriend yet she is still standing tall. Garrick is a great guy who finds love and is willing to fight for it. The two make a wonderful couple. The love that the two share shines throughout the story. I really enjoyed the way that Nika deals with everything that happens to her, making her my favorite heroine so far from this series. Watching her fight for not only her life but Garrick’s as well was a great read. It was nice to see her realize the love she has for Garrick and deal with all that life has thrown at her.

Once again Marisa Chenery weaves a wonderful tale full of love and magic that keeps you glued to the pages. This author has quickly become an automatic buy for me and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

When I set out to write Forget-Me-Not, a contemporary romantic suspense, one of the first decisions I made was setting. The BWCA is dominated by two colors: blue waters and green trees. Second, anyone who has ever fallen asleep in the BWCA listening to the cries of the loons echoing over a lake knows that it can be one isolated, spooky place. Third, it’s remote: The “Boundary” part of the name refers to the US/Canadian border. There are no large cities are nearby, and motorized vehicles are banned in the BWCA. If you want to travel in the BWCA, you’ll do it by paddle power. No hopping in the car and speeding out of danger.
In addition, one of the hardest things about writing suspense these days is how interconnected (and wired up) we are all. How can you put a character in danger for a long period of time if she’s got her GPS-enabled smart phone on hand at all times? Well, that smart phone won’t work out in the boonies of the BWCA, so problem solved.
That led me to what kind of a heroine I needed. A local? Maybe, but I thought a fish-out-of-water story sounded more interesting. That led me to the idea of someone who was running from something, or someone. Enter Lara Crosby, who moves to the remote cabin her grandfather left her when her high-powered career as a political fundraiser goes south. Determined to make it as a freelance writer and put her troubles behind her, she’s stunned when a stranger crashes his SUV in her front drive during a severe storm. The stranger, Jacob Sumner, appears to have followed her from Chicago, but why? Jacob can’t explain it: He’s suffered a head injury during the car accident and is now suffering from amnesia. Shortly thereafter, someone makes an attempt on their lives. But who is the real target, Jacob or Lara, and why? And is it related to why Jacob has apparently come in search of Lara?
When you choose a setting first, it can help shape your story. A place often shapes the natures of the people who live there. In this case, the sanctuary-like nature of the setting drew a person to relocate there. As it turned out, she wasn’t able to hide from her past after all: It caught up with her. Finding a way to bring her past life back to haunt her in this remote location drove the story of Forget-Me-Not.

The sexual encounters are very arousing and done with a nice balance of both lust and love between the characters with the exception of a couple scenes. The story is pleasantly paced, but the world building felt a little lacking. Very interesting for what was there, but I found myself with more questions than answers about why and how things came to be.

Even so, I would definitely recommend this story to readers who like fantasy with an edge of suspense and plenty of hot lovin’.

Rough Riders is an excellent and fast read. It is a short story but is written with enough vivid detail that you can fully relate to the characters and understand them. This is the first book I have read by Devon Rhodes and I can truly say I look forward to reading more by this author.
