I found this to be an interesting short story. The start was a little clunky to my mind – while we open in the present day we fairly quickly move back in time to Danielle and Luke meeting. While I feel the author tried to make this regression seamless, I personally find it easier to follow time-jumps (even small ones of a few months like this) if there’s some sort of sub-heading – or “Three Months Ago…” to mark where the time has changed. The normal “asterisk break” simply signifies a normal scene change to me, so I got a little lost at the start.

Aside from this though I enjoyed the story. I liked Danielle and thought the meeting up with Luke was different and fun. Although they got together quickly, I expected it to happen fast given the length of the story. I would have loved a little more time to be spent on Luke’s recovery – instead of jumping ahead in time maybe have had Luke and Danielle talk about their future, make some plans. Considering Luke’s accident was where the story started I feel it would have been a bit more satisfying to spend more than just a few pages in that place before jumping back and forth.

Readers should know there was one creepy scene – certainly not horror (to my mind) but enough to make me shiver. For an otherwise happy, fluffy and light romance story I found it a little jarring – though it definitely gave the story a unique twist and will remain memorable to me.

The author managed to mix good characters, an interesting plot and inject just a little bit of small-town psycho into a story in a very small number of words. All up this made the story lovely to read in my mind. Overall I enjoyed it and would definitely look for more by this author.

This was an interesting and very sexy short story. I liked Zoey’s character – there was so much potential to her and I was excited to get to know her better. I really wished we got to spend more time with her and that the author had fleshed out her character more. I was extremely surprised that even though this was Zoey’s story a large chunk of the book was spent with Heidi (one of Zoey’s two best friends) in the spotlight. An entire chapter was spent with Heidi and her husband Nathan and their ménage lover, Rafe, and there were also short scenes that didn’t involve Zoey at all. In a 54 page book, I really felt this was critical words and space that should have been focused on Zoey or Zoey and Rafe together – not Heidi.

This all made the story really feel more like an extension of Heidi’s (which was covered in book 1) and made me feel like Zoey was almost a strong secondary character. I had a lot of curiosity about Zoey and wish we could have explored her character further, considering this was “her” book. Why was Zoey’s ultimate sexual fantasy that of a ménage/moresome? How did she go about seeking this in the down-time when the story was focused on Heidi and not Zoey? What was her attraction to Rafe and how did they interact together? I really wanted more focus to be on this. There was so much happening “off camera” that it felt like I missed out on big chunks of the story – Zoey and Rafe getting to know each other better and Zoey exploring the swingers club, both of these felt critical to the plot and progress of the story and yet both were really only mentioned in passing – not in detail. I feel this was a huge opportunity that was left unexplored.

About half way through I decided to stop questioning everything and just disengage my brain. Once I simply read the story as it was portrayed I did enjoy the sexy scenes and I have to admit the writing itself was really good. As a fun, hot foursome story this ticks a lot of the boxes, sex wise. If you’re a reader who can ignore curiosity and just enjoy a sexy story for the sex, this is definitely a good book to try. I enjoyed the foursome scenes – I felt they were hot and well paced. Zoey and Rafe were both smoking hot and clearly attracted to each other. Rafe was also obviously deeply in love with both Nathan and Heidi and the menage scene between the three of them was sexy too.

You don’t necessarily have had to read the first book in the series to enjoy this story. There’s a lot of repeated information around both the dare and how Zoey, Heidi and Meagan are friends. I was pleased for the happy ending and the foursome scenes were hot and well worth the read. Megan’s story is the third (and presumably last) in this series and I’m still curious enough to check it out.

This is a fun short story filled with plenty of sizzle. I was really interested in how different Nathan’s character was. Far from the usual hero material, Nathan had – from my perspective at least – multiple anti-hero style characteristics. He was cocky and full of self-assurance, plus he was a bit of a man-whore. Despite all this Heidi is deeply in love with him and from the first few pages I was eager to see how the author would get these two together, but more importantly how Nathan would stack up being the hero. I felt deeply intrigued at all the conflicting parts of the scenario – the hero who wasn’t a hero, the heroine who was shy but still owned her sexuality. It was refreshing and a very different outlook.

I ended up a little confused about Nathan’s sexuality – it was never fully explained whether he was bi or just loved people and sex of all flavours. I also was a little disappointed in that I didn’t really end up buying that Nathan genuinely loved Heidi when they finally got together. They’d been living platonically for three years and while the chemistry was there, he hadn’t felt strongly enough about her to act on it. Additionally, he’d had plenty of “love em and leave em” relationships – and tons of M/M flings as little as a week before declaring his love for Heidi. The change was just too drastic for me to find it believable. Additionally, the moment things stop going his way, Nathan reverted back to what he knew (carefree flings) so this made me seriously question the strength of his feelings. Both Nathan and Heidi were too caught up in their passion and the newness of it all for me to feel this new loving relationship between them was properly explained.

A part of me really wishes this book had been full length. I’d have loved a bit more time and background into both Zoey’s and Meagan’s dares being set up. I fully understand why a bit more time and a slower pace is impossible with such a short word length – but I really felt there was so much left unexplored it just felt a shame the pace moved so quickly and there wasn’t more time devoted to fleshing out the details. The conflict between Nathan and Heidi really felt like it appeared almost out of nowhere. In this scene especially I feel more time and explanation would have changed this from making me feel a bit confused into having the scene help build the solid relationship between Nathan and Heidi and make it far more believable for me. I still fully enjoyed the quick, sharp ride the author took us on – but a part of me would have found the story more satisfying if we’d been able to relax and enjoy some of the key scenes more thoroughly.

When Nathan and Heidi finally get together properly – the heat level is scorching and the pace really ramps up. It’s a wild ride and I fully intend to look out for Zoey and Meagan’s story too.

This is a sexy, hot short story and one I enjoyed. Ryan is a rough, working class man and so I found his dirty language believable and not as off-putting as I might have under other circumstances. I was a little surprised that Tilda reacted really well to the hard talk – especially when she was portrayed in many ways as a young, not very experienced woman. Once Tilda and Ryan got into bed though, Tilda really came into her own. While I can’t quite say I felt she owned her sexuality there was a delightful lack of worry and self-questioning which I found modern and refreshing – though not necessarily believable from the character I was initially introduced to. Tilda enjoyed their hard sex and although she worried about the stability and long-term-ness of their relationship I loved how she didn’t fall into most of the usual “I’m sexually active” traps like some heroines do.

I was jolted a little by an editing mistake (Ryan’s age fluctuated from thirty two to thirty one) but for the most part the editing, pace and style of the story kept me interested and reading quickly. Overall, I enjoyed Tilda and found her a sensible heroine. She lost her mind a little during the conflict – believing a clear lie from a character who had already proven himself untrustworthy – but aside from that short bout of “silliness” Tilda seemed a sensible, practical woman with her head screwed on properly. Ryan – for all his roughness – was the classic hero in that once he admitted the depth of his feelings was willing to commit and this helped me really enjoy the happy ending. He showed his care with his actions – not one for soft or sweet words.

This is a fun short story with some hard sex and dirty talk. I enjoyed the pace and characters and was satisfied with the happy – almost romantic – ending.

There were a few grammatical errors (cue instead of queue, and Circular Key instead of Circular Quay) but generally speaking, the editing was decent. During one of their heists the four ladies are beaten to the punch, and suddenly Phantom is caught up with a man from her past. Readers should be aware that there are character deaths in this story – important characters. While I found overall the plotline of thieving to be dealt with in a fun and lighthearted manner, there were darker, far more serious aspects to the storyline that weren’t shied away from. This book isn’t horror – the deaths weren’t particularly graphic, but I can’t help but feel that readers wanting a light, fluffy mystery might find some parts of this story too dark for them. Also more regular romance readers who dabble in mysteries might be put off by the major character deaths. This doesn’t have a traditional style happy ending.

I found the pacing of this story fast and effective. While the four women are introduced separately once the action starts it keeps on coming at a fast clip. I was a little lost a few times in the beginning – each of the women have both a “real life” name and a moniker they take on when they do jobs, so I got mixed up quite a few times between the characters. While I found this was a little annoying – it didn’t really detract too much from the pleasure of the action based, fast moving plot. And I really enjoyed the characters and their dual natures – normal women doing extraordinary heists. I have a soft spot for fiction involving thieves.

I found this to be a great story with an interesting and complex plot. Interesting and vibrant characters make this a lovely read.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and found this book particularly lovely as Christian is not only untried in the BDSM lifestyle, but also a virgin in the more physical sense. I loved how special Peter made their first time and how well he handled Christian and his struggle against himself and his own desires. I thought it was delightfully clear that Peter cared about Christian from the start and had true patience to help lead Christian where they both wanted to go – instead of just ordering him around and dictating. The fact Peter was the Master in the relationship would have made it far too easy for him to simply order and Christian obey. I found the story far richer and deeper for the fact Peter had patience and supported Christian as he worked through his own feelings and demons.

This book was solely focused on Peter and Christian – not any of the other aspects of the Beer and Clay world. While I didn’t mind this, some readers and fans of the series might find it disappointing that there’s no reference or cameos from the other main characters. Of course this also means readers who haven’t read the other Beer and Clay books can certainly pick this up and not be at all lost – this is absolutely a “stand alone” book and indeed could be read as an excellent introduction or “prequel” into the Beer and Clay series.

Steamy hot sex with a lovely bit of kink to it, two wonderful men and strong characters and a whole lot of love make this a wonderful story and one I will happily reread many times to come. Recommended.

Ace is the typical “skinny guy grows up buff” character that finds himself hot and sexy in his adult body. I really liked how the author took the beginning somewhat slow, introducing us properly to the two men, letting me as a reader get comfortable with their characters and get to know them a bit before the steaminess came in. This time and pacing is something I find a lot of erotic romance misses out on – just jumping straight into the sex and letting everything else come along afterwards. So I found it refreshing to learn about Pate and Ace and then move onto the chemistry sizzling between them.

I found the sex scenes really tastefully written. While descriptive and smoking hot, I feel that only readers who dislike M/M romance will find it pushes the envelope too far for them. There is a little bit of saucy language right in the middle of the sex – no hard language anywhere else in the story. There’s also nothing overtly kinky or anything else which I feel regular romance readers would find offensive. Personally, I found the romance and sex between Ace and Pate hot, sensual and delicious to read. It was romantic and sexy and I will happily reread this story many times in the future.

Readers looking for a sexy, romantic story about two men finding not just each other, but also a satisfying way forward in their life should really enjoy this book. I loved how Pate and Ace both still managed to find their dreams – even though it might not have been what they originally pictured it as. Happy, warm-hearted, sexy and satisfying, this is a wonderful book I can strongly recommend.

This is an interesting story. While it took me quite some time to warm to Deb’s character, I greatly enjoyed Marcus and his writing career. If it had been a man doing these actions to a woman I would have stopped reading the book there and then. I felt the stalker behavior and threat of the lies would have been a complete turn-off in a hero – borderline abusive. So it wasn’t much very tasteful to my mind even though the genders of this action were reversed.

It also took me quite some time to piece together the sort of relationship Marcus and Deb had. I hated how confused I felt in multiple parts – I really would have preferred if the author had made their relationship (complex as it was) clearer much earlier on so I didn’t have to backtrack multiple times trying to work things out.

I also found Deb’s thought process to be rather murky. Initially she seemed completely focused on wanting her story and seemed willing to do anything, include break the law, to get her precious scoop. Later, when I thought I had a bit of a handle on her, she shocked me when she kept insisting that the murders had nothing to do with the awards or the favourite author slated to win. It had originally been Deb raising this possible threat to Marcus – insisting it was credible and murder might be performed, yet when this actually starts happening she kept insisting it was a coincidence and nothing untoward was happening. I think I would have really appreciated having Deb’s motives and real purpose/desires more clearly explained and stuck to. This might have helped me connect better with her character and enjoy her – and possibly her antics – far more.

Thankfully, Deb came good in the end. While it didn’t really get rid of my initial dislike for her, deep down Deb does care for Marcus. And Marcus was a fun and interesting character. As a writer he bucks the norm for not just “regular” hero material in a story – but also for what most consider gender sterotypes in the real world. I loved reading about a male writer and the different types of bias and problems they might truly be treated with in real life. It was eye-opening and kept my interest riveted.

The murder sub-plot was also really quite interesting. I enjoyed trying to put together who the killer was. There were really very few clues leading up to the big reveal – though I did manage to guess the true reasoning behind the killings. I thoroughly enjoyed the pace of the story – the intrigue keeps things moving at a quick rate and I really liked how Marcus and Deb needed to roll with the punches and just keep moving forward.

Overall I found this to be an interesting, sexy read with a solid sub-plot and some hot, sexy scenes.
