I’m always a sucker for an assassin-style of story, and this one was no exception. Darke is a mysterious character, one who does the dirty, thankless but necessary task of taking out the bad guys by becoming one himself. Astrid is a lot more complicated than I originally thought and this really pleased me. Her history with Darke is well explained over the course of the book and I was really excited to see them not only reunited, but also watch them discover each other almost like it was brand new again.

I was a little disappointed with what I felt was an over-indulgence with the dirty talk. I like a bit of smut and harder language when the situation or characters call for it, but in much of this short story I really felt like it was added either for shock value, or just to make the sex appear “edgier”. It fell a little flat for me, personally, and I found myself cringing at the harder language because I hadn’t been convinced by either the story-line nor the characters that it was needed. Unnecessary swearing (like multiple words in consecutive sentences) just made the writing seem less realistic to me and felt rather like overkill.

Right near the end of the book there are some very faint overtures of BDSM. A part of me really wished that this had been more fully explored throughout the book. Darke simply calling himself a Dom and Astrid his sub – and having a very brief spanking scene – didn’t really leave me feeling like they were involved in a fully fledged BDSM relationship, nor that Darke was a hard-core Dominant. While the story is definitely short, I really feel that (as an erotic romance story) since the BDSM element was introduced it would have made far more sense for it to be explored in more depth. This would have made it feel far more realistic to me – rather than just be a few words and spanks and calling a very small bit of kink a full-on BDSM relationship.

With plenty of twists and turns in the plot I think this should keep most readers guessing right to the end. The characters of Darke and Astrid in particular were quite different – refreshingly so – and I found there was more than enough excitement to keep me turning the pages. An interesting and different style of story with a great relationship and some interesting sex scenes.

And Clark was a deliciously complex character – bold, self assured and confidant in most respects, but after a very nasty break-up he showed vulnerability and hesitation at the oddest times privately and when it came to the romantic relationship growing between he and Thomas. I found this added a lovely layer of complexity between the two men and one I found interesting and really refreshing to read.

While I really enjoyed the pace of the relationship flourishing between Thomas and Clark, the small amount of plot seemed a little jarring – almost like it had been added a few times throughout the story practically as a second thought. I feel the pacing would have been much better had the plot/conflict either been shown in more depth (quite a bit of it occurred “off screen”) or just ditched all-together. Instead, occurring only in short bursts with long stretches of relationship-stuff happening in between, it felt a little half-hearted and I couldn’t work up much enthusiasm for it as anything other than the mandatory “misunderstanding and argument” aspect of their relationship. I feel this could have definitely been handled better.

I loved the sex between Thomas and Clark. It was prolific, sexy and I thought their chemistry and growing care for each other really was a pleasure to read. While I didn’t feel there was anything kinky or envelope pushing, as a romantic M/M story I thought this ticked all the right boxes in the bedroom and should appeal to a wide range of readers.

With excellent characters and a great, steamy romance, I found this to be a lovely M/M story.

I found this to be a lovely, funny short story. Equal parts humourous and sexy, I found myself deeply entertained and enthralled by Mike and Riley. I really enjoyed both Mike and Riley’s characters, but it was some of the secondary characters that really made this story different and so amusing. Like Charlie, the four year old, sticky fingered destroyer, or any one of Riley’s ten siblings. I loved how the author managed to infuse not just humour and realism into so many varied characters, but also made it not come across to me as campy or trying too hard.

In many ways this story has it all – hot and sexy guys, crazy families, destructive children and of course long-haired, home-bred cats. If you’re looking for a light, funny and sizzling hot M/M romance I feel this ticks plenty of the boxes. No hard-core erotica or kinky play here, just lots of laughs, plenty of fun characters and Mike and Riley falling deeply in love together.

I really enjoyed this short story and can happily recommend it.

Leanne and Mickey were clearly the main hero and heroine, and I greatly enjoyed their slow, sweet drop into love with each other. There was also plenty of interesting and really well written plot to keep me turning the pages. Between the nefarious happenings at Mickey’s club, Mickey working office hours where possible for his dad at his business and Mickey’s moonlighting as a singer there is more than enough action happening I feel to keep most readers interested.

I found this to be a wholesome, really well paced and lovely story to read. Very romantically sweet, it’s the sort of story I’d happily share not just with my friends, but also my mother or younger women just beginning to explore sweet romances. While there’s certainly romance to it, the happiness and sweet spark is something that lends itself to being shared with family and friends. While I was a little disappointed that much of the plot was fairly predictable, that in itself was rather like a cosy, warm blanket to wrap myself in. The fact nothing too outrageous or crazy happened is sometimes exactly the sort of romance story one wants to read.

A delicious, sweet romance full of good plot and excellent characters.

I found this to be a really interesting short story. As one would guess, Doctor Pain is not all about happiness, rainbows and glitter, and I was surprised – but pleased – that the author didn’t shy away from showing the reader exactly how nasty Doctor Pain is. While I don’t feel that the more gorey and torture-ish scenes were wallowed in or glorified, neither were they ignored or tucked away. We see Doctor Pain harming others in short doses and I personally feel it adds to the sense of very real danger that Griffin and anyone associated with him is in. Readers should be aware that a few of the scenes are graphic – though I personally don’t feel they are any more graphic than a regular paperback thriller would be nowadays. For readers wanting some spicy romance and not a thriller, this might sour them on the mood so I feel it worth highlighting.

I really enjoyed the many characters in this story. Jack, Griffin and Twist were all complicated, multi-layered characters that I found a joy to read about and watch grow together. There’s plenty of supporting characters, from Teddy, Roane and other members of the shifter Team Paladin. And all the while Doctor Pain hovered around the edges of the story, an interesting – and creepy – villain. While Griffin didn’t jump immediately into bed with Twist and Jack, I was surprised that a mere day after escaping a week of torture Griffin was willing to cuddle, lean on and become vulnerable with two strangers. From a plot point of view it was explained quite thoroughly, but it just didn’t feel realistic to me and I needed to suspend my disbelief and just push through that. Since I was enjoying most other aspects of the story this wasn’t hard, but I don’t feel all readers will swallow that very sudden change quite so easily. I was impressed that other signs (nightmares, body-shyness etc) were all part of the trauma Griffin showed – these all struck me as far more believable. After a week of being in each other’s company I could understand Griffin relaxing and trusting the team – so the initial/immediate trust with Jack and Twist was a small bump in an otherwise interesting progression of the story.

The sex and “we’re shifters” talk was well paced. I also liked seeing the overall story arc (that of the small town being bought by the team and bringing it back to life piece by piece) move forward. I was a little disappointed that the plot felt not only predictable but also there was a part of the ending clearly left hanging. I’m hopeful it will be picked up (with Teddy and Dallas) in the next book, but it did leave this story feeling somewhat unfinished to my mind. I also had a chuckle about a man called Teddy mating a Bear-shifter – even if that pun isn’t intended it made me laugh!

A good story and one I can easily recommend.

This is a lovely, hot and sweet short story. There was a plot hole that I felt wasn’t explained as fully as I would have liked – how did Dax’s arm get burned through his fire-fighting jacket/uniform? Those coats are specially designed to protect from intense heat. Considering that burn is why Sadie–a nurse–was sent to be his follow-up care giver, the point felt critical to the plot for me and it niggled that it felt too much like a setup. Had the circumstances of Dax getting the burn been just a little more detailed (was his jacket faulty? Did he need to hold the beam for a long period of time to protect the girl he saved?) I could have happily moved on and not felt like the burn was simply a convenience to throw Dax and Sadie together again.

While the spanking scenes are hot, I found it refreshing that the BDSM in this story was more about the mindset of a Dom/sub type of relationship. Spanking and some deliciously naughty sex outside in semi-public areas were the only kinks sexually speaking, but I enjoyed looking a little deeper into Dax’s mindset as a Dominant and what he felt a submissive mindset could entail. Readers unsure about BDSM or who usually don’t like much of it in their erotic romance might find this story still very interesting as it’s more mind-based not whips-and-chains-sex based.

I also really enjoyed the characters. I loved Sadie and was deeply curious about Dax and the secrets he hid. There’s a fair bit of Sadie’s fellow dare best friends (all happily settled from previous stories) and found despite picking this book up cold – without the previous installments – I followed along quite easily. Apart from getting some of the boyfriends/friends mixed up I had no trouble enjoying Sadie and Dax’s story for being just theirs and not necessarily a part of a larger whole.

I found this to be a lovely short story, hot and well written with just enough kink and plot to keep me happily turning the pages and very satisfied with a happy ending.

I found this a fresh take on the more traditional style of vampires. While much of the world and mythology is similar to the normal style everyone knows, I loved how the book itself focused strongly on Aaron learning the ropes of vampirism. Beau takes on the role of mentor and it was interesting to effectively learn alongside Aaron. Elements of the BDSM lifestyle were closely woven in with more common vampire lore – feeding and avoiding sunlight/lasers etc. And I was delighted by the slightly rough edge Beau had. No sparkly vampires or lacy, flouncy silk shirts here!

At a few points early in the book I worried that Aaron was slightly too dependent upon Beau. While I loved how Mr Michael explained very thoroughly how weak, young and new Aaron was – so this dependency really made sense and was completely logical, Aaron’s level of reliance on Beau was deeply submissive. I have to admit though I really enjoyed watching Aaron flourish and grow strong – not just as a vampire, but also as a man and in his relationship with Beau. The pacing was near perfect for me. Slow, gradual and both men needed to work hard and earn it all. This made the whole story a real delight to me and one I know I will thoroughly enjoy reading many times to come.

This is the first of a series, and I really enjoyed the paranormal world Mr Michael has created. There were a number of very strong secondary characters who I presume will be showcased in future books. Aaron and Beau’s relationship was primary throughout the entire book and while they did find a semi-regular human man to feed from (Geoff – I dearly hope his book is one of the upcoming ones) and the feeding was fairly sexual (the M/M/M listed above) this is not a traditional ménage or a committed part to Aaron and Beau’s relationship. Aaron and Beau care for Geoff, enjoy him and feed from him, but they’re not a threesome in a relationship way. Personally, I’m hoping this leaves the door open for Geoff’s own story. Similarly – I’d love to read a story about Beau’s two siblings.

A new and lovely look on the traditional vampire story. I really enjoyed this and am eagerly awaiting new stories in this series. Highly Recommended.

I enjoyed this older woman/younger man/men short story. Brice and Claude were both sexy and hot, and while Maggie starts off a bit sad and unsure of herself they quickly help her find her confidence. I was a little surprised that apart from Maggie initially recognizing that Brice and Claude are both approximately half her forty years there is no mention at all about the age difference. While pleased that it wasn’t made out to be a bigger deal than it should be in this day and age, I nevertheless was a bit surprised that none of the three of them speak about it at all. While not an impediment to a short-term ménage relationship, the age difference would, I believe, make for some significant differences in both their world views, experiences and general outlooks. So I was both a bit disappointed it wasn’t even raised – let alone discussed – and also felt it lent the air of unreality to the story. I felt this would have been an excellent discussion point and lovely to see how they dealt with those differences outside the bedroom.

I also struggled a little with the pacing of this story. Being told in the first person point of view it wasn’t until some explanations right in the last couple of pages of the story that I felt a strong, good connection to Claude and Brice. Personally I like to get hooked on the characters right at the start of a story – it’s a compelling reason for me to continue reading. Oddly, in this story I was frustrated that so many questions were raised and because I couldn’t glimpse in the men’s heads I had to keep pushing through the pages and only at the very end were my questions answered. I really feel I could have enjoyed the story a lot more had I been able to glimpse better inside their heads and know where they were coming from. Similarly, at times I felt Maggie’s thoughts – particularly reflections on her past and explaining her history – slowed down the pace of the story and instead of moving forward with the sexy kisses and acting on her chemistry, her reflections on how she came to be right at that point felt a bit too much like info-dumping to my mind.

Having said that, when the ménage finally kicked into gear the sex was smoking hot and deliciously intense. Both Claude and Brice clearly and thoroughly enjoyed sharing a woman between them, and I didn’t blame Maggie a bit for lapping it all up then asking for seconds. Her two lovers were generous, talented and didn’t shy away from showing just how much they loved sharing the experience. There was a twist near the end that took me completely by surprise in a good way. I was also pleased with the happy ending and found it a satisfying conslusion to a good ménage story.

Phebe was serving out community service by working for the old Cowboy and Western Museum. After a depressing confrontation with her loser ex-boyfriend, outraged and desperate, Phebe lays down on a cot in the exhibit and wakes to find herself in the Old West (1866). Rafe is the Sherriff and has come west after being a sharp shooter in the Civil War to try and start fresh. When Phebe finds herself stuck in this time, can Rafe help give her a reason for staying?

I found this to be a lighthearted, sweet and fun time-travel to the Old West style story. There were a few mysteries I wish that had been given explanation. Like how Phebe went to sleep in jeans and woke in an olden-style dress. Or how there was almost no commenting on Phebe’s very non 1866 style of speech (from calling the Sherriff an asshole to slang like “one way ticket to crazy town…”). While I completely understand explaining these sorts of things might have been difficult and possibly jarred the flow of the story, I really feel they could have added significantly to the story-line and enriched the world to my perspective. Partly by deepening the experience – how would a modern woman fare with the speech, style, food, hygiene etc of 1866? – but also by adding an extra layer of realism and complexity of the interactions between Phebe and Rafe. Plus it could have been downright fun to see much of this from Phebe’s point of view.

That said, I really enjoyed Phebe’s character – a modern woman and firecracker, struggling to fit into a time long gone. I also really enjoyed Rafe. I found him not just to be a traditional style, honourable and strong law man – but also quite decently open minded (particularly given the time period). I was thrilled that Rafe listened to Phebe’s thoughts and didn’t just expect her to be a shy, retiring woman. The sex was hotly written and fairly explicit. Nothing kinky or outrageous, but certainly modernly written and with no closed doors. With just the one sex scene (and some deliciously hot kissing here and there) I don’t feel this story is too sexy for most romance readers.

Toward the end of the story there’s a clear link-in with previous books. I hadn’t read any of the previous stories in this series, so that part of it didn’t mean as much to be as longer-term readers might find. Except for a few parts right at the end the rest of the story can certainly be well understood as a stand alone.

With interesting and complex characters, time travel back to Old West and returning to the modern era, spicy romance and all sorts of good and bad guys I found this to be a lovely, good read with plenty going on. I’m sure most readers will find something to enjoy in this fun and adventurous story.
