What Stealing A Diamond and Stealing a Heart Have In Common with the Heroine from Shimmy Bang Sparkle

Hi! My name is Stella Peretti. I am the head of the only all-female jewel heist crew west of the Mississippi. We call ourselves the Shimmy Shimmy Bangs. I got started in this life of crime when I was a girl. I saw something that I knew was unfair and I had to do what was necessary to make it right. I’ve heard that the old hardened cons who learn about us say we are “Robin Hooding” our way around the Southwest. I’m really proud of that!

Nick gets involved in my plan to steal the North Star diamond because of an accidental text that I mistakenly send to him. I know, I know. Dummy! But because my girls are not able to execute the heist with me, Nick offers his expertise. I’m reluctant at first. But he wins me over. He’s competent, persistent… and sexy. God, so sexy!

What have I learned from my experience with Nick? Surprisingly, stealing someone’s heart is a lot like stealing a diamond. Here are five skills that you need for both:

If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It.

I don’t go into a heist or a relationship with my guns blazing. Instead, I give a little bat of my lashes, show a little leg, play up my most feminine qualities. Being a good flirt is a huge advantage in my line of work… and in nabbing Nick Norton, too!

It’s a Confidence Game.

Having confidence in yourself is key to getting what you want, either in a heist or winning a man’s heart.

Play Dirty.

There’s a time for playing by the rules and being a good girl, but it’s no holds barred in love and theft!

Be Careful… But Not Too Careful.

When it comes to heists, I’m a planner. But when it comes down to it, it takes guts to steal a diamond. And it takes guts to fall in love as well. Soemtimes you just have to open your heart and see what happens.

All Or Nothing.

I’ve known a lot of thieves who are doing twenty-to-life for a Zales one karat diamond.. And sure, I’ve stolen my share of engagement rings but only if it’s easy pickings. If you’re going to risk your liberty and your heart, it damn well better be worth it. The North Star is worth it. And so is Nick.

All Nick Norton wants is to stay on the straight and narrow…and never get caught stealing again. Then he lays eyes on her: Stella Peretti—100 percent sexy and absolutely irresistible. Especially when he sees her smooth moves lifting a two-karat diamond. Nick realizes he’s found the sparkling woman of his dreams—one so perfect for him it’s almost criminal.

The Shimmy Shimmy Bangs are master jewel thieves who are planning the heist of the century. And Shimmy leader, Stella, isn’t about to let anyone—even if he is a hunky, tatted-up studmuffin—get in her way. But when two of her girls are put out of commission, Stella realizes that Nick isn’t just a red-hot distraction. He might be the answer to her pilfering prayers.

Now, Nick and Stella are putting everything on the line for one last job. But when two thieves have this much chemistry, it’s only a matter of time before somebody’s heart gets stolen.

“It’s fun to dream.”

Stella tugged on the diamond ring with her thumb and forefinger to take it off, it didn’t cooperate. She furrowed her eyebrows, and laughed nervously, wiggling it and spinning it. “That’ll teach me to get extra-large fries with my lunch.”

The saleswoman laughed, nodding, and patted her slightly pudgy stomach. “Tell me about it, hon.”

For a few tense seconds, I stared at the ring. She twisted it, and tugged it. She rocked it back and forth. She gave it a yank, but still it didn’t budge. I took her hand in mine and gave it a shot too. But didn’t have any luck either. It was totally stuck.

“This isn’t embarrassing or anything,” said Stella softly as she gave it another try, doing the side-to-side rocking again. “I’m sure this is a first.”

“Oh my gosh, no. Fingers often swell in the afternoons. Lemme go get you some lotion. Be right back,” the saleswoman said, and headed for the back of the store.

Stella sighed hard and grabbed her purse from the floor, hooking it over her shoulder. “Thank you,” she called after the woman as she jingled away. “I really apologize. We’ll be out of here in no time.”

The saleswoman tossed her hand in the air. “Totally OK. Hang on.”

As she walked away though, Stella transformed right before my eyes. It was subtle, but I was watching her so close that it was like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon. The sweet-as-pie innocence was replaced with calm and focus. Her posture changed, the way she’d held her lips changed, even her stance changed. She shifted her hair over her shoulder and turned away from me, preventing me from seeing what she was looking for in her bag. I rolled my weight back onto my heels to get a different angle—not enough for her to notice, but enough to see what was going on. With the help of an oval tabletop mirror to my right, I saw exactly what she was up to. From the side pocket of her purse, she produced a little tube of something.

Hand lotion.

She didn’t call out to the saleswoman, but instead lowered her head slightly, allowing her hair to slip off her shoulder. I realized she was not only keeping her hands hidden from me, but also—thanks to her hair—away from the prying eyes of the black-domed security cameras in each corner of the shop. Suddenly, each detail seemed practiced. Strategic.

Damn near . . . professional.

She flipped open the top of the tube and squirted some onto her finger.

And then she did it. If I hadn’t been watching it, I wouldn’t have believed it. Houdini would’ve wept. Copperfield would’ve proposed. Blaine would have asked her to do a Vegas show with him. Once her finger was greased up, she used the thumb of her left hand to slide the diamond off her finger. It fell noiselessly into her bag. She dropped the tube of lotion on top, and the ring disappeared into the depths of her purse. Then, from the interior side pocket of the purse, she produced . . .

The same setting. The same cut. The same size.

The identical engagement ring.

I was floored. But somehow, I managed to play it cool. She didn’t know I’d seen her, and I wasn’t going to blow her cover. Only a creep interrupts a magician in the middle of an act.

The saleswoman tottered back toward us. The fake was on Stella’s finger, and the real ring was nowhere to be seen. “Here you go, hon,” said the woman, holding out a bottle of lotion with the lid already undone. “Smells real good too.” She squirted a glop of the pink liquid on Stella’s finger, making the whole place smell like laundry detergent.

Stella worked some lotion around her ring finger, and slipped off the fake, with a big sigh. “Phew! That was a close one.”

The saleswoman just giggled. “No worries. Happens more than you’d think,” she said, and took the keys from her skirt. Using a jewelry cloth, she cleaned the lotion off the ring until it sparkled again, set it on its spinning velvet platform, and locked up the case.

And there I thought I’d found my bliss already.

“Thanks so much for all your help,” Stella said, and zipped up her purse.

I felt like I was dreaming. Never, in my whole life, had I seen anything so smooth. She seemed sweet, she looked so sexy, and to top it all off, she was utterly badass. I needed to get my hands on her. Now.

Adrian Hughes is a geek who sucks at social interaction because awkward is his middle name. Even though he’s gay, he’s the opposite of flamboyant (when they were handing out fabulous, he was hiding in another room). Even so, he’s always wanted a boyfriend—who doesn’t want to find love?—but so far, the closest he’s gotten to it is crushing on the hot older guy he only sees on the elevator. So what happens when he’s trapped inside it with Mr. Zillionaire Hottie during a heat wave brownout? He stutters like an idiot, because Mr. Greyson Lee is unexpectedly cool, calm, and collected … right up until he’s not.

When kissing leads to sex, Adrian can’t say no. But is it just a hookup? Or is it the start of something more?

Adrian had finally finished a horrible Friday and was heading home, albeit absurdly late. In the elevator going down, Adrian shared his first proper conversation with Greyson Lee – a total hottie whom Adrian had seen around and been fantasizing about for ages. When the elevator stops due to a brownout Adrian discovers far more about Greyson than he could ever have imagined.

Clichéd as the premise is, I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. Greyson and Adrian were interesting characters to my mind and even though they have a hot sex scene virtually simultaneously to their first real conversation the circumstances and writing made it credible and believable to me. While there isn’t really much of a plot – the first half of the story is taken up by the “stuck in an elevator having sex” scene – there is a bit of external conflict towards the end of the story. I personally found the conflict a little over the top, but it was believable – not too outrageous – and I understand the purpose it added to the story.

Readers looking for a sexy, short and easy-to-read story should find this a fun and hot read. And while the storylines are fairly well-trod, the characters of Greyson and Adrian were fresh and interesting enough that they kept my attention throughout the whole story. A delicious happy ending and some seriously steamy sex this is a great, quick read that should appeal to a wide range of readers.

The plot twists were handled nicely. One of the things I enjoyed the most about them was how much time Ms. Taylor spent introducing her characters before she gave any real indication at all that her readers were about to surprised by what would happen to them. She did a good job developing the storyline early on before diving into what Mir’s life was really like.

The characters in this story used terms to describe the world they lived in that were never really explained clearly to the audience. As interested as I was in figuring out what they were talking about, it was a little frustrating for me as a reader to see so many references to certain events and other things that I was never quite able to completely understand. A little more exposition in this area would have gone a long way.

There’s something mysterious about the ocean in general. This is even more true for characters who live in a time when the seas are rising and evolution is working faster than it ever has before. Some of my favorite scenes in this tale were the ones that described why the humans were so afraid and what they encountered every time they wandered out by the sea. Not only were these sections a joy to read, they added a layer of urgency to the plot that made it impossible for me to stop reading until I knew what Mir’s fate would be.

Sweetlings should be read by anyone who loves post-apocalyptic fiction.

“Do you want to help me make dinner?” Of course, Petey’s kind of help was eating anything that fell on the floor. Petey’s tail wagged, brushing back and forth like a doggie dust mop. “You’ll get yours when I have mine. That’s the deal.”

Petey whined at the injustice.

Clay went to the kitchen, got a container of pasta and sauce that he’d made up over the weekend, and popped it into the microwave. He wasn’t in the mood to cook, and an evening on the sofa in front of the television sounded like a good idea. Clay also made up a small salad and dressed it with ranch. He fed Petey and settled in front of the television, eating while watching the news, changing the channel as soon as the escape story came on.

Petey joined him on the sofa, curling up next to him, his head resting on Clay’s leg.

“I know, buddy. You’re just what I needed.” He patted Petey gently on the head and stroked down his back. Petey blinked up at him with his big brown puppy eyes, and Clay was able to let go of some of the stress of his day. Few things were as relaxing as just spending some quiet time with his dog. Petey never yelled at him and didn’t expect much from him. He just loved him without judgment. There hadn’t been many people in his life that Clay could say that about.

Clay’s phone rang, and Petey barked, then growled. He hated the phone, especially when it interrupted back-rub time. Clay checked the number and answered. “Sheriff, what can I do for you?”

“Yes.” Sheriff Hunter hesitated. Clay figured he’d called for more than just to give him an update on his fellow deputies. You know Grange is on the loose, and apparently that isn’t enough for him. Judge Phillips received a call threating his safety about an hour ago.”

Clay groaned, realizing where he was going with this. “Sheriff… I….”

Sheriff Hunter sighed. “I know you and Judge Phillips don’t get along. The man could be a royal pain in the behind to Jesus Christ himself, but he needs protection. We know Grange has threatened Phillips in the past, and he’s done it again. Now he’s on the loose, and God knows where he is right now. From the author and illustrator of the bestselling Not Quite Narwhal comes a sweet and funny story about remembering where you belong, no matter how far you roam, or what you’re wearing when you get there.

Harriet loves costumes. She wears them to the dentist, to the supermarket, and most importantly, to her super-special dress-up birthday party. Her dads have decorated everything for the party and Harriet has her most favorite costume all picked out for the big day. There’s just one thing missing—party hats!
But fortunately things have changed somewhat, and there are a large number of people that cannot afford taking the pills back to back and also do not want to compromise with the effects. so for such people who cannot afford the medicine there is one solution and that is they can buy cialis without. But when Harriet dons her special penguin errand-running costume and sets out to find the perfect ones, she finds something else instead—real penguins! Harriet gets carried away with the flock. She may look like a penguin, but she’s not so sure she belongs in the arctic. Can Harriet manage her way back to her dads (and the party hats!) in time for her special day?

It’s not every day that a kid gets kidnapped by penguins!

The plot twists were creative and adorable. I especially loved the fact that the penguins knew how to speak and had so many strong opinions about what Harriet should do after she realized she missed her dads and wanted to go back to them. This is the sort of thing I’d happily read to the young children in my life over and over again because of how fun it was to discover all of the twists and turns in this character’s adventures after the penguins took her to their icy, faraway home.

I would have liked to see a little more exploring Harriet’s attempts to go home to her parents again. The illustrations did help to flesh out the hints in the words themselves, but there was a lot more the narrator could have done with these sections while still keeping them appropriate for such a young age group. Had these scenes been given more time to shine, I would have gone with a full five-star review as everything else about this book was wonderful.

One of the other things I loved about this tale was how much genuine kindness and empathy was expressed by many of the characters. Harriet was feeling nervous and sad about being separated from her fathers. The fact that her feelings were acknowledged was lovely, especially after she decided to try everything she could to be reunited with them.

Harriet Gets Carried Away was a heartwarming story that I’d recommend to anyone who has ever had to deal with uncomfortable emotions.

Flynn hadn’t had the best day – being ditched at the altar, literally, by his fiancée and now stuck in a storm with a double-booked cabin and a large stranger. All he wants is some peace and quiet to try and sort out the shambles of his life. Beau might be tall and stacked, but there’s a calmness and strength to him that Flynn immediately recognized and appreciates. Not feeling at all threatened, Flynn agrees Beau can stay at the cabin with him until the storm passes. But when that happens, will they be able to say goodbye?

At first I was a little nervous that this story would be quite clichéd, I’ve read plenty of “stuck in a remote cabin during a storm” style of stories. So I was really pleased to find this short story well paced and a refreshing outlook on the tried-and-true plotline. Flynn is genuinely clueless about his true feelings and Beau isn’t the usual overbearing, pushy alpha male type. Indeed, I adored how Beau – for all his strength and self-knowledge – was patient, non-judgmental and quite kind to Flynn. I loved how neither man had a campy of flaming style of personality, while I love more flamboyant characters that wouldn’t have worked so well in this plotline or situation to my mind. Indeed, I really loved almost everything about this story despite my initial reservations.

I was pleased that while there was clearly a spark and some trust between Flynn and Beau they didn’t just immediately jump into bed together – that would have seemed quite outrageous considering Flynn was clueless and had just been jilted – and the pace of the romance between them felt just right to me, fast enough it didn’t drag but slow enough it felt realistic.

With interesting characters, a good pace and some seriously steamy love-making this is a great short story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended.

Is their threesome doomed from the start, or has the power of the two houses struck again?

Brett and Ace were best friends. They’d recently moved and were both rather obsessed with their gorgeous – but busy-looking – next door neighbor. Meredith is an artist and a frustrated one to boot. She’s lost her spark and is changing up her life, desperately trying to reconnect with that whimsical part that helps fuel her creativeness. She’s noticed to two hotties next door, but hasn’t had the time or inclination to introduce herself. When Ace does it for her, Meredith is more than happy to meet both sexy men.

I found this to be a really lovely, slower paced romance. While the chemistry between Meredith, Ace and Brett is obvious from the start, I enjoyed watching the three characters get to know each other a little first. Meredith is clearly a free spirit and strong-willed woman, and both Ace and Brett are different men, showing their attraction and interest in Meredith in completely different ways – Ace by being bold and brazen, and Brett a lot more quietly and subtly. I enjoyed the space and time the author gave me as a reader to understand and appreciate each of the different qualities and character traits of these three before throwing them all into bed together.

The fact that Brett and Ace weren’t intimate – or even really bi-curious – was something I found quite different about a M/F/M romance. My only (very slight) disappointment was that when the relationship shifted from a friendly/neighborly style and into the more intimate ménage territory the wording was a little clichéd and there seemed to be a bit of awkwardness in the shift from platonic into erotic. While often I find when characters first become intimate it’s a seamless, easy shift something about this story just felt a little jarring to me personally. Meredith insisting that they didn’t need to label it and almost treating it like an experiment to get her creative process flowing again also didn’t sit quite right with me.

That said, I loved how both Brett and Ace were clearly besotted with Meredith – and I genuinely feel Meredith had feelings that grew and deepened for both men too. After that initial, slightly awkward “getting together” phase I really enjoyed watching the threesome grow into a strong, healthy and interesting ménage. Overall this is a great story and a sexy threesome romance that I feel plenty of readers will enjoy.

Martha Wallace skipped along the path that meandered through St. Stephen’s Green. She couldn’t walk, she simply couldn’t. Her heart was too light. It lifted her body with every step, giving her a buoyant gait as if she were walking on clouds. Mrs. Goodwin hurried behind her with small, brisk steps, struggling to keep up. “My dear, you’re racing along. Why don’t we find a nice bench and sit down?” she suggested, catching her breath.

Martha swung around and began to skip backward, a few paces in front of her elderly nanny. “I don’t think I could sit, even for a minute!” She laughed with abandon. “To think I came here to find my mother, but I’ve lost my heart instead. It’s too ridiculous, don’t you think?” Martha’s American accent was in stark contrast to Mrs. Goodwin’s clipped English vowels. Her pale Irish skin was flushed on the apples of her cheeks, and her cocoa-colored eyes shone with excitement. She had taken off her hat and consequently invited the wind to play with her long brown hair. This it did with relish, pulling it from its pins, giving her a wild and reckless look. It was hard for Mrs. Goodwin to believe, watching the seventeen-year-old girl now dancing in front of her, that only a few hours before she had left the Convent of Our Lady Queen of Heaven in tears after having been told that there were no records of her birth to be found and no information about her birth mother.

“Now let’s not get carried away, Martha dear.”

“Goodwin, you’re so serious suddenly. When you know, you know, right?”

“You’ve only just met and for no more than an hour. I’m only saying it would be prudent to be cautious.”

“He’s handsome, isn’t he? I’ve never seen such a handsome man. He has the kindest eyes. They’re the prettiest gray, and they looked at me so intensely. Am I wrong to think he liked me too?”

Martha threw her arms around her old nanny, which took Mrs. Goodwin so much by surprise that she laughed. The girl’s ebullience was irresistible. “And his smile, Goodwin. His smile!” Martha gushed. “It had such mischief in it. Such charm. Really, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone with such a captivating smile. He’s even more handsome than Clark Gable!”

To Mrs. Goodwin’s relief, she spotted a bench beneath a sturdy horse chestnut tree and sat down with a sigh, expanding onto the seat like a sponge pudding. “I must say, they were both very polite,” she said, recalling the boy’s father, Lord Deverill, with a rush of admiration. She was flattered that a man of his standing had treated her, a mere nanny, with such politeness and grace. She knew that he had invited them to join their table for tea on account of his son, who had clearly been taken with Martha, but Lord Deverill had extended Mrs. Goodwin every courtesy, when he hadn’t needed to, and for that the old lady was extremely grateful. “Lord Deverill is a gentleman in every sense of the word,” she added.

“I think I lost my heart the moment he came into the tea- room,” said Martha, thinking only of the boy.

“He couldn’t take his eyes off you. How fortunate that his father took the initiative, otherwise you might never have had the opportunity to meet him.”

“Oh, will I ever see him again?” Martha sighed, wringing her hands.

“Well, he knows where we’re staying and if we delay our trip to London a day, that might give him time to come calling.”

“I’m so excited I can’t stand still,” said Martha, clapping her hands together. “I don’t want to go home. I want to stay in Ireland forever.”

Mrs. Goodwin smiled at the naivete of youth. How simple life seemed to be in the rosy glow of first love. “I don’t wish to bring you back to earth, my dear, but we have a mission, do we not?”

This gentle reminder deflated a little of Martha’s enthusiasm. She sat down beside Mrs. Goodwin and dropped her shoulders. “We do,” she replied. “You can be sure that nothing will distract me from that.”

Decisions, decisions…

Should Lady Anne Milhaven marry the wealthy and handsome young marquess, or should she resign herself to living out her life in poverty and disgrace, exiled from the world she was born to?

Should Philip Tremaine, the new Marquess of Penworth, redeem his honor and marry the proud and beautiful earl’s daughter whom he has unintentionally compromised, or should he prove himself as dissolute as his contemptible family?

They are not fools, but marriage is only the beginning. Now can they learn to work together and thwart the vile plots of their scheming relatives?

A Match for the Marquess is the prequel to the Victorian Adventures series.

“That’s enough from you, Anne,” Mrs. Craddock snapped. “I should not have bothered asking you. You’ve always been jealous of Corinne. Now go to your room, and the next time I see you, I want you to be wearing your cap. And what have you done to that dress? Put on one of the others. Remember what you owe to our charity.”

Penworth had had enough. His wife-to-be was not going to be disparaged in his hearing. And she certainly wasn’t going to put that hideous cap back on her head.

He stepped into the room and struck a dramatic pose with his arms outflung. “Beloved,” he exclaimed, “our troubles are at an end!”

“My lord?” Anne spoke uncertainly.

“I knew that once he saw you again, the earl would love you as I do. He has agreed to our marriage, and the wedding can take place at once.” Penworth stepped quickly to her side and drew her into his arms. “Oh my darling, tell me that you share my delight.”

Anne looked up at him, and he saw the shock in her eyes change to uncertainty and then to amusement. “Oh, my lord,” she said, “my joy is equal to your own.”

At that Philip gave a shout of laughter. She was indeed quick-witted, and he doubted that her aunt could recognize the sardonic note in her voice. He pulled her close and kissed her soundly.

About the Author: When she retired after too many years in journalism, Lillian Marek felt a longing for happy endings and stories where the good guys win and the bad guys get their just deserts. Having exhausted her library’s supply of non-gory mystery stories, she started reading romance novels, especially historical romance. This was so much fun that she thought she’d like to try her hand at writing one. So she took her computer keyboard in hand, slipped back into the 19th century, and began.

She was right – writing romance novels is as much fun as reading them.

When the chieftain’s son helps her, she realizes the man she’s only admired from afar is enamored with her. As she faces the memories of a traumatic childhood, will the wall of ice around her heart melt so she can accept his love?

Kalaka’s Choice
Young Shaman Kalaka has been obsessed with gaining the affection of the artistic and handsome Alloc. Then a stranger comes to her village, and she must rely on this mysterious man, Manuk, to help save Alloc from certain death. After she travels to the spirit world and understands the truth about these two men, Kalaka must decide which one to choose before she loses her perfect soul mate forever.

Three stories in one book, all from the same author. The first tells of Inaluk, chieftains daughter who turns her back on the ability to be a shaman. She asks Otuku the blackmisht of a distant village for help fighting the wild koba. Although she knows the village is cursed she has no idea what the curse entails, but she does know whatever it is makes the villagers cowards when it comes to fighting.

Za’lla is a blind shaman, taken in as a child and taught by the old shaman of the village. She has a strange dream of a girl who looks like herself and is being attacked by the koba. A traveller and the chieftain’s son agree to help her find the girl and solve the mystery of who she is.

Kalaka is an apprentice shaman but believes she knows better than her tutor. She believes her soulmate to be Alloc who is married to the chieftain’s daughter. Her love makes her do things that are not for the benefit of the tribe, but more for the benefit of Alloc.

All three of these shaman end with strong love interests and Kalaka is a descendant of Inaluk The three women suffer from self importance, low esteem and bad judgement which leads them to believe in the wrong destinies. I could feel the cold of the area they lived in, glaciers and snow nearly all the time, but found it difficult to connect with the first and last shamans as they could have easily sorted things out for themselves without wars and trips to the spirit world. Za’lla on the other hand worked for the benefit of others, not herself.

Placid stories with excitement coming only from violence, but on the whole it all fitted together nicely.
