Scottish Highlands, 1692. Befell the tragedy of Mort Ghlinne Comhann, also known as the Murder at Glencoe.

Despite his own incongruous past, all Wolfe Stewart wants is a simple life, free from the persecutions of the Crown. And when he rescues a Child of the Mist from an “Asian man who disappears into the snow as if he were never there,” Wolfe has received his wish. However, mysteries still plague him. He gets no answers, but more questions when a familiar stranger arrives with his cousin and Regiment soldiers to take up the hospitality of the MacDonalds of Glencoe for a fortnight.

Little did the clan suspect what would soon befall them. After the massacre on 13 February, 1692, most MacDonalds lay dead, many exposed to the elements perished, homes burned. Wolfe and his friend Fergus are taken away for reasons unknown.

But why would Campbell and his men commit such a hideous and unholy crime? The truth will not be found in history books. The beast behind this tragic night holds nothing but greed within his heart, and using the Jacobite risings as his cover, he gets what he wants and leaves behind death and suffering.

This story stands alone but readers will find that if they read the bigger story, this little tale stands out as an important part of it. Readers get to discover an exciting story through the impassioned journals and letters of characters. This is a piece of the puzzle toward solving a mystery.

Scottish families are divided between loyalty to King William and the Stuarts. Jacobite supporters, the MacDonalds, are ordered killed.

We meet young Wolfe, part of the MacDonald family. He is a charming youngster that readers can’t help but to root for as he experiences such hard times and difficult odds. He and his friends rescue a woman, Isobel, from a stranger who seems to be from the Orient. Oddly, he has disappeared.

Wolfe falls in love with Isobel, and they marry. Then the real trouble begins…

The writing is poetic and fast-paced. The characters are intriguing. For example, the stranger is indeed strange, and there is something dark and evil and supernatural about him.

Wolfe, a teenager at the time was originally from Romania and moved to Scotland when he was eight-years-old. He has heard such legends about creatures such as vampires. The juxtaposition of them and seventeenth-century Scotland is unique and interesting.

Another Scottish family sides with the English and attack the MacDonalds. When they take something precious from Wolfe, he must go down a dangerous path. Readers follow him, on edge, wondering what this beloved character is in store for. Wolfe hears talk of an experiment to be done to his friend, and the mystery deepens.

Wolfe gets trapped. We see his determination as he fights his grief, to get out of his terrible situation. His ordeal makes him heroic.

He learns something shocking about himself, an unexpected twist in the story. The plot has a few unexpected turns, which are well-written. When Wolfe’s life changes dramatically and suddenly, it’s a treat to see how he handles the newness of it. The author has done a great job at letting us see through Wolfe’s eyes. We experience it as he does.

Wolfe has a terrible predicament. He is morally against what he has to do to survive. He seeks out his mother. Will he find her? How will he deal with his hard choices?

This little story is a gem and recommended.

Then one morning, something truly awful happens. And there’s only one woman fierce enough to save the day. Can Teddy’s mom reunite Teddy with his favorite toy?

All toys are special, but some toys are truly irreplaceable.

The friendship between Teddy and Bren-Da, Warrior Queen of Pacifica, made me smile. He obviously loved his doll quite a bit, and I enjoyed seeing all of the thrilling adventures he imagined them going on. While there were only a few scenes that showed how he’d played with her before these two buddies were separated, I enjoyed learning about their backstory before the main events of the plot started to happen. It provided important context for Teddy’s reaction to her disappearance and made me hope for a happy ending for both of them.

I would have preferred to see more time spent on where Bren-Da went and how Teddy’s mom rescued her. This was such an important part of the plot that I was surprised by how quickly the narrator glossed over these events. While I’d expect the average tale for this age group to be written in a pretty lighthearted and reassuring manner, I do think there was a lot more room here to expand on how the rescue attempt might have played out since so much of it was left to the reader’s imagination.

There’s something to be said for a parent who will go to any length to make their child feel better. Teddy’s mom hadn’t meant any harm by what she did early on in the storyline. The fact that she worked so hard to find Bren-Da once she realized how much that doll meant to her son was one of the highlights of the plot for me. She was a very caring parent.

Teddy’s Favorite Toy was a gentle and heartwarming tale that should be read by anyone who still remembers which toy they liked the most when they were little.

Trusting him could be a deadly mistake.

Everything changes when Brooke’s sister goes missing. Her fragile world crashes. She is desperate to find her, and she’ll need help.

Haunted by a past he needs to forget, Scott Derrico keeps to himself until his gallery manager, Autumn Hartley, suddenly disappears. He is forced out of his isolation to help a woman that needs him with a terrifying intensity.

Scott tries to deny his attraction to Brooke. He doesn’t want to get emotionally involved but he craves her like nothing else. And, for her, he is a dark and sexy diversion to overcome her fear.

With a genuinely flawed and relatable heroine and a mysterious and protective hero, you won’t want this love story to end. You’ll beg…for another five minutes…

Enjoy an Excerpt:

Scott stopped so he could stare at Autumn’s sister. He’d forgotten—again—that she was coming. Maybe if he’d remembered, he would have been more prepared.

Brooke was absolutely beautiful.

Her eyes met his, and he couldn’t look away. Those large, gorgeous eyes held him in place better than steel bars could have. He could stare at those eyes for the rest of the day, or week, or longer.

He suddenly remembered his manners. He’d told Autumn he would make this easier for her. He forced a polite smile, completely aware his behavior was not going unnoticed.

With a pointed stare, Autumn stepped toward him. “What’s wrong? And don’t answer where she can see you. She reads lips.”

He turned sideways, away from Brooke, opened his mouth to respond, and shrugged instead.

“Did you change your mind about her working here?”

“No, of course not.”

“Okay. So why are you looking at her like that?”

Again, he shrugged. What was he supposed to say? Sorry, but I don’t want to have the hots for your sister. You should have told me she was so beautiful.

“Oh,” she said, her eyebrows lifting.

Oh? What the heck did she mean by that?

“You realize I have a picture of my sister on my desk, right? It shouldn’t be a surprise to you that she’s pretty.”

He hadn’t noticed the picture. Obviously. And, she was way more than pretty.

Her look of surprise suddenly changed. “Scott, don’t you dare make a move on my sister. I mean it. That’s the last thing she needs right now.”

“That won’t happen.”

“Good. Now, please turn back around and say hello. I want her to feel welcome.”

Right. He turned back, shoved his hair away from his face, and instantly went right on staring. “Hey. Welcome to the team.”

Was that his voice? It was much softer than normal. He had to snap out of this.

She gave such a small smile that he wondered if he imagined it.

Had she understood what he’d said? Maybe he hadn’t spoken slowly enough?

He looked back to Autumn to make sure she wasn’t still glaring at him. She was. Oh hell. He walked away to his studio. This day was not going to get any easier.

AT FIRST, DAISY IGNORES HER CAT’S DATING ADVICE.

Daisy will turn 40 in eleven months and has never married. Her family figures Daisy is a loser because she is still in college trying to avoid paying off her student loans which have amassed over 22 years of a miseducation. And all Daisy has is a cat to keep her company. To make the crises worse, her cat begins talking to Daisy, when she is sober! The mess of Daisy’s life is even kookier because the cat is cursing and smoking now and drinking more alcoholic beverages. Mm, there must be a connection to all this flowing alcohol, which may explain the bubbly in Daisy’s brain. Her sisters and mother insist on setting Daisy up on six blind dates and all the men are named after liquor.

A heartwarming, LOL book that will make you smile.

Read an Excerpt:

Her heart stopped at the sound of claws coming down the hallway.

What is that rolling sound?

There was the sound of heavy breathing at the door followed by, “I brought you a bottle of wine, dearie,” the cat said, cackling like an old witch.

She tiptoed over to the door. “I suppose you have a poisoned apple, too, in that filthy paw of yours.”

“I didn’t bring a wormy apple. Would you like a nice unopened bottle of Pinot Noir instead?”

Daisy twisted a fist in her yellow Adult Cinderella nightgown. Her big toe stuck out of her slippers. She did not drink this early in the day or was even up on a Saturday morning, but her sisters had banged on the bedroom window. Aunt Davina slammed a picture of Jesus against the window and screamed, “Pray to God, Daisy, that The Man watching football from the clouds will toss you a husband as good as my John! Maybe you will catch a Matthew or a Peter!”

“I dated a Peter once and he was really a dick,” Daisy yelled back.

Given the day she was having, a morning drink could hit the I-feel-good-about-myself spot right on.

Daisy should act strong and tell the cat to go catch a mouse.

On the other hand, a stiff drink would calm the lizards jogging around her brain. The mind racing was due to her new mad-as-a-hatter relationship with her cat.

“Uh, a glass of wine would be good,” she squeaked.

Annie was such a friendly and enthusiastic kid. I liked her immediately, and my impression of her only grew warmer as I got to know her even better than I did in the first scene. She was the kind of character that I’d love to see an entire series of books written about. It seemed to me that we’d only scratched the surface of her life. I always enjoy it when I meet a character who feels this complex and interesting, and I’d sure be interested in reading more about her if the author ever writes a sequel.

I would have liked to see more time spent developing the plot. The blurb gave away so much of what happened that there weren’t a lot of surprises later on in the storyline. As interested as I was in finding out what Annie was planning to do for career day, it would have been nice to have a few twists along the way as I waiting to discover what was going on in this character’s life.

Some of my favorite scenes were the ones that happened early on when various members of Annie’s family were playfully attempting to convince her to give hints about what she was going to do for Career Day. She had close-knit relationships with all of the adults in her life, and it showed. I enjoyed seeing how her family spent their free time together and how much they cared for each other.

Astronaut Annie should be read to any child who has ever had big dreams about what he or she might be when they grow up.

Andrew Seaton, archeologist, finds what might be the ‘key’ to the lost city of El Dorado (mythic ‘city of gold’) …but the ‘key’ disappears. Enter Alex Court, investigator.

Alex specializes in art theft – and understands how momentous this one particular stolen piece might be, right from the start. Its more than valuable in its own right, but possibly a link to a lost world and culture.

Action is fast – and with that hint of supernatural about it, often unpredictable. Characters are strong and opinionated; their motivation is understandable and conversations engaging.

The story is told in the first person, by Alex, so there is a certain immediacy to events. However, very occasionally this reads rather like third person, and rather confuses the reader to suddenly have Andrew’s thought or intention plain. It’s not often, but is a tad distracting.

Its a very worthwhile read, even so. Anyone who enjoys adventure tales will like this one.

Stephanie Stewart is a typical sixteen-year-old girl—she loves hanging out with her friends, going to concerts, and sipping mocha lattes. Yup. Just your average teenager . . . Except for one difference—she can see and talk to the dead. In fact, Stephanie helps dead girls who who’ve been murdered or killed, cross over. Just as Stephanie is getting used to her unique “gift”, her mom stumbles into some dangerous witchcraft that backfires and triggers similar abilities in Stephanie’s best friend Cura, and nemesis Hillary. Stephanie already has enough trouble trying to maintain a “normal” life between school and her cute boyfriend Dylan, who happens to have a supernatural talent all his own. But now she has to help her friend Cura and her “frenemy” Hillary cope with their new-found powers as well as cross over two murdered cheerleaders and battle an evil demon who wants to use Stephanie’s supernatural strengths as a free pass to The Other Side. And she needs to do it all while still getting her term papers in on time. She’s definitely going to need an extra-large mocha latte for this.

In the same vein, if a buying viagra canada man loses the power of having sex in a relationship is so important. This is the second book in the Crossed series, and while it can be read on its own, I think it would be better read in order. I haven’t yet read the first one, and I think I would have enjoyed the story a lot more if I had already been familiar with the characters.

It reminds me a bit of Buffy, only instead of being a vampire slayer, Stephanie helps the dead cross over. The book reveals a lot of past history that Stephanie didn’t know about her family – and leads to interesting character development on the part of all the characters.

You have all the characters you’d expect in a teen paranormal – the boyfriend, the best friend, and the mean girl. One thing that’s surprising is the parents play a pretty big role (especially Stephanie’s mom). They aren’t caricatures either… they are well developed and add a great deal to the plot of this book.

It’s from Stephanie’s first person point of view which really helps you get into the action and see her thought patterns, which also made me want to slap her sometimes..but teens are famous for not always making good choices.

I really enjoyed the back and forth in this book and the plotline… I can’t wait to go back and read the first book to get a better idea of what went on and how Stephanie started on this path. I could so see it as a TV show and hope Ms. Baccellia has more plans for this group. I’ll be looking for future books!

She ran without giving him the chance to explain what she saw. But there is no place for her to hide. Not from him. She is his, she belongs to him, and he’ll do whatever it takes to convince her of that. Even if it means holding her captive until she comes to her senses.

When Connie had seen her boyfriend shift into a werewolf, she’d discovered his secret and couldn’t deal with the lies, with knowing he wasn’t really a man but a monster. She had run – trying to hide herself from him. But Tor Vladmir was an excellent tracker, the best, and he’d found her, and he’s not willing to let his woman get away for a second time.

I really struggled to put my finger on why I had trouble getting into this story. I enjoyed Tor’s character, finding him confidant and seductive without crossing over into true arrogance. The premise was also really interesting to me – a quite realistic scenario of a woman running like crazy when faced with the reality that her handsome, sexy boyfriend is actually a werewolf. I can’t possibly fault the reaction because if I were faced with that situation, screaming and running would also be high on my agenda, too. And while it took me a while to warm to Connie’s character, there isn’t really anything tangible that I could fault her for. And yet a part of me rankled that she would so easily ditch her lover and run away, not even willing to entertain the notion of talking to him and finding out what, exactly, was going on. I didn’t like how hard Tor needed to work to convince Connie to simply return to London and her job, to try and give himself time and space to woo her back. It frustrated me that Connie wasn’t willing to even try and meet Tor part-way in understanding and reconnecting with him.

Again, I must stress I understand this is a completely logical and rational response from Connie, I get that. But I suppose I expect more from my romance heroines. I want them to have a tolerant and open mind – maybe even be curious about discovering the world was larger than they had imagined. I think I struggled to get into this story for the very reason I was intrigued by it and picked it out – I wanted to see a more reality-based storyline about a normal heroine finding out her partner turns furry once in a while.

I really enjoyed though watching Connie and Tor getting to know each other again. I loved learning about Tor’s history and how he came to be a shifter, and I was pleased to see how effectively and firmly he went about wooing Connie back. Although the sex scenes happen in the latter half of the story I found them hot and well-written and intense. Tor does hover around the line of creepiness in how far he’s willing to go to try and convince Connie to stay with him. Readers who are firmly against the possibility/threat of kidnapping or holding someone against their will might find this story shades a little too close to that line for comfort.

Personally, once Connie started meeting Tor part way I quite enjoyed this story and found it to be a very realistic storyline and steamily written.
