It’s breeding season, and this alpha is ready to claim his mate…

Liam is the pack alpha, and the only wolf without a woman. When he discovers the new human in town is his destined mate, his wolf demands he mark her and take her virginity. Only she doesn’t know werewolves exist, and danger seems to follow her wherever she goes. He’ll have to play nice until his love is reciprocated.

Rebecca’s anxiety has kept her lonely and isolated for most of her life. Moving far from the city is her last attempt at finding peace. What she finds is more trouble than she can handle—and a man who’s ready to kill for her. It doesn’t take long for Liam to sweep her off her feet. He makes her feel like a queen, and leaves her body desperate for every carnal pleasure.

Life in the forest isn’t without problems. A rival pack is set on taking everything Liam has built over the years, including his new mate. The alpha can’t keep his dark secrets from his woman forever. What will happen when Rebecca realizes she’s been sleeping with a wolf?

Liam & Rebecca… each one is half of a whole. Both the characters are wonderfully written and go well together at the end.

Rebecca has anxiety, which makes it difficult for her to date and have friends. Liam on the other hand is a shifter – a wolf shifter, with a whole pack to take care of. Liam tries to bring her out of her shell and be considerate of her anxiety but at different points in the story I kept expecting more from her and it seems to come up to that expectation only until the climax.

The book has a “love at first” or “lust at first” sight theme since Rebecca is Liam’s destined mate. They are meant to be together. But will they?

It is a short story but not so short that it is over even before it begins. It is the third book in a series and could be read as a stand-alone as well as a series since each couple has their own story. A word to the wise for some readers, it has scenes of torture and humiliation that may not be to their liking.

This is a great love at first sight short story for reading under the stars.

Okay, so I picked this book up because it had a neat cover and was on the shelf. I mean, why not try a new-to-me author? So I did. This book is definitely interesting. I’ll admit, it’s over 30 years old, so there are pieces of it that need to be considered through that lens. There is romance and while the hero has his moments of meanness, he does care about Francesca.

The Duke is a typical historical hero–he’s pushy, has no patience for some things while lots of patience for others and uses kisses to shut up the heroine. Still, he’s handsome and while he’s a tad dated, I still rooted for him to be with Francesca. Francesca is rather beaten down. I mean, good gravy, if I had an auntie like hers, I’d be hesitant to leave my house. Good thing she has the paper and her writing.

There are bumps along the way for these two and this story is a tad dated, but it’s still a fun read if you’re interested in what our mothers read back in the day. Check it out.

Top Five Episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Rayna Vause – Guest Blog and Giveaway

*****

I’d like to thank everyone at Long and Short Reviews for hosting me today in celebration of my latest release Twice Bitten. So today I thought I’d do a Top 5 list of my all time favorite episodes of one of the best vampire shows ever, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

5.) Band Candy (Season 3, Episode 6)

In this episode, candy being sold by the high school band was laced with a drug that turned all the adults in town into teenagers emotionally and mentally speaking. It was so much fun to watch the role reversal of the teens taking on the parental role and vice versa. It gives the Scooby gang the opportunity to realize that the adults in their lives weren’t always responsible grown-ups, but hormonal, out of control teens just like them. Plus, bad boy Giles was a hoot and it was hilarious when Buffy came across Giles and her mom making out on the hood of a car. It was such a fun episode

4.) Hush (Season 4, episode 10)

This episode was awesome and creepy. I mean crazy, smiling, demons in three piece suits who have the ability to steal the voices of an entire town to prevent people from screaming, and then harvesting organs. I remember being absolutely riveted to every moment. in fact, I was doing that horror movie watch from between your fingers thing. Also, it forced the characters to find different ways of expressing themselves which allowed them to open up in ways that they might not have been able to do verbally.

3.) The Body (Season 5, Episode 16)

This episode is just so heartbreaking and captivating. The Body is the episode where Buffy’s mother dies from a ruptured aneurysm following the removal of a cancerous brain tumor. Seeing Buffy when she finds her mother broke my heart. The slayer is absolutely devastated and at a total loss for what to do. Here is a girl who faces monsters and vampires every day. The fate of the world rests on her shoulders, but the one monster she can’t challenge and defeat is human illness and the frailty of the human body. Watching her turn to her friends to help her grieve and basically just to function gets to me every time. But the person who absolutely devastates me is Anya. A demon turned mortal who doesn’t understand mortality. This quote absolutely guts me every time. “But I don’t understand! I don’t understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she’s, there’s just a body, and I don’t understand why she just can’t get back in it and not be dead anymore! It’s stupid! It’s mortal and stupid! And, and Xander’s crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she’ll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why.” Excuse me while I go find a tissue.

2.) Becoming Parts 1 & 2 (Season 2, Episodes 21 & 22)

Another heartbreaker, especially for me, because I was totally team Angel. These episodes are epic. You get Angel’s back story and learn how he became a tortured self-loathing vampire. All the while evil Angel is on a rampage killing Kendra, another slayer, torturing Giles, and just being generally evil. But imagine how terrible it must be to have the man that you love become evil incarnate and put you in the position where you have no choice but to kill him in order to save the world(again). To make matters worse, just before she kills him he becomes her boyfriend again, the good Angel. I mean the writers of this show put the characters and the fans through the wringer. It was amazing and awful and infuriating all at once, but I never missed an episode. Plus this is where we get to see Willow start dabbling with witchcraft and casting her first successful spell. I really like witch Willow and I loved her and Tara and their powers together. As the episode ends, of course they play a Sarah McLachlan song. If you weren’t already emotion-snacking at this point, that song was bound to push you over the edge. I really enjoy Sarah’s music, but wow is her stuff angsty and depressing. Just thinking about it makes me want some ice cream.

Once More with Feeling (Season 6, Episode 7)

The musical episode. No top five about Buffy is complete without this episode. I LOVE THIS EPISODE. Now perhaps it’s because I love musical theater and this hits all the right notes, pun intended, for me. I don’t know, but it’s always a go to episode for me. I love the fact that Joss Whedon made the fact that everyone was singing and dancing in Sunnydale make perfect sense. I also love the he uses the songs as a medium for the characters to express emotions that they were hiding from themselves and from others. This episode is fun, emotional, and I sing along every time.

So Buffy fans, what’s your favorite episode?

With a new species of vampire stalking the streets, the stakes are high. But that’s not the only reason hearts are on the line.

Danny Reynolds thought Kieran McCade was the one—true love and hot lust forever—until Danny found out Kier’s bloody secret and ran away screaming. Months later, Danny is facing his own paranormal crisis, and he needs Kieran’s help, but are there enough ways to apologize for breaking a vampire’s heart?

Nothing about Danny’s transformation is normal—not the attack that led to it, and not the symptoms Danny’s plagued with—but being in close proximity to Kieran is even worse than becoming a thing that goes bump in the night. Danny and Kieran aren’t the only things threatening to bump each other off, though. Secret organizations and clashing vigilante agendas want to get their hands on Danny. His only hope is to find a fix for his problem before he’s either captured or his abnormal transition starves him to death.

Danny and Kieran might have a real chance to repair their broken romance… but only if they keep Danny alive!

Pictures by Amy Lane – Guest Blog

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Amy Lane who is celebrating the release of A Fool and His Manny.

Pictures
By Amy Lane

I recently watched Coco with my family, in which the family wall of pictures plays an important part—and I have to admit, I felt a little guilty.

I’m horrible at having pictures up at my house.

Part of it is the electronic age. Why update the pictures on your wall when you have a traveling slide show on your phone? Part of it is wall space. We have none. But the movie brought home to me that the pictures on your mantel and your shelves do help people understand who lives in your house.

In A Fool and His Manny, Quinlan doesn’t skimp on pictures. By the time he and Dusty fall in love, he’s been with Dusty’s family for seven years. He’s got pictures of the kids—and pictures of himself with the family—on every shelf in his little apartment.

But he’s never the center.

Now, in the few pictures I do have, me and my kids and my husband are all clustered together in the center. We’re a unit. So it made sense that Quin—the eternal outsider—wouldn’t feel that way. He was the nanny, so it was his job to make sure his family was in the middle of the people puddle.

When Dusty starts courting him—while Quin is away on tour—he has Quinlan send him a selfie a day, and returns them.

Now selfies are a very specific picture—the person taking the selfie is the center of the world. So Dusty was really very smart. He made Quinlan see himself as the center of Dusty’s world for two months, at a distance, where embarrassment or shyness wouldn’t hobble his growing awareness. And at the same time, Dusty got to be the center of Quinlan’s world, and the best part of his day.

Reports have emerged that athletes looking for greater performance on the field to everyday gym rats who are simply wanting to look viagra sales canada and feel better about themselves. Having to deal with hair loss and bald patches leaves many men feeling extremely self conscious and can really hit their cute-n-tiny.com viagra 5mg confidence levels. The best part about the medicine is cialis generika 10mg that it increases the limit of ejaculation because when a male discharges the fluid then all the desires gets reduced. It will cure impotency and cialis tadalafil online erectile dysfunction. So by the time Quin gets back from his tour—sick and exhausted—he’s already stopped seeing Dusty as a little boy, and started seeing him as something important, something vital and adult.

In Dusty’s family, hunting down and capturing a mate is a family enterprise, and having good moves, good habits that make a mate feel a little happier about being hunted down and captured, is a matter of pride. Tino hunted Channing by waking up at five in the morning so he could make Channing breakfast before going to work. Cooper made Sammy protein juice because Sammy needed help managing his health.

In Dustin’s case, Quinlan had been providing meals as a matter of course. He needed a better move.

And it must have worked—because when Quinlan got back from tour, he was primed to see Dusty as more than a kid he used to take care of. He was ready for Dusty to be an adult who helped take care of him.

Dustin Robbins-Grayson was a surly adolescent when Quinlan Gregory started the nanny gig. After a rocky start, he grew into Quinlan’s friend and confidant—and a damned sexy man.

At twenty-one, Dusty sees how Quinlan sacrificed his own life and desires to care for Dusty’s family. He’s ready to claim Quinlan—he’s never met a kinder, more capable, more lovable man. Or a lonelier one. Quinlan has spent his life as the stranger on the edge of the photograph, but Dusty wants Quinlan to be the center of his world. First he has to convince Quinlan he’s an adult, their love is real, and Quinlan can be more than a friend and caregiver. Can he show Quin that he deserves to be both a man and a lover, and that in Dusty’s eyes, he’s never been “just the manny?”

About the Author: Award winning wool-gather, Amy Lane lives in a crumbling crapmansion with the children who are still growing, a fur-baby mafia, and a bemused spouse. She has too damned much yarn, a penchant for action adventure movies, and a need to know that somewhere in all the pain is a story of Wuv, Twu Wuv, which she continues to believe in to this day! She writes fantasy, urban fantasy, and gay romance–and if you accidentally make eye contact, she’ll bore you to tears with why those three genres go together. She’ll also tell you that sacrifices, large and small, are worth the urge to write.

I love the books of Susan Carlisle. She writes beautifully and I get swept away with each story. This one was no different. The characters are intriguing and the issues relatable. I read this book in one sitting and I’m glad. I’d love to read more about these two.

Rex is a doctor on a mission–a mission to keep to himself, while doing what he wants. He’s the typical dashing hero expected in Harlequin books. He’s scarred and has overcome his past. I liked him. Plus, he’s darn good looking. I loved his interactions with Tiffani. He he he. They are so opposite, but it works so well.

I liked how Tiffani insists on making him face his past, while also being the face of the hospital. He needs good PR and she can help him. She wants the heck out of town after a nasty breakup. This was one of the scariest things I’ve read in a long time. Mr. Larson did a wonderful job at setting the mood while slowly giving hints that something had gone terribly wrong while Noel, the main character’s husband, was conducting his research in northern Canada. I especially enjoyed the fact that Kristine needed some time to realize that Noel wasn’t acting like his normal self. As her excitement transitioned into fear, I only became more interested in finding out what had really happened to him while he was away.

It would have been helpful to have a more detailed explanation of what was going on in the final scene. The clues that were provided weren’t quite enough for me put all of the pieces together. Even now I’m not entirely sure that my understanding of the end was what the author meant to say. Had this section been clearer to me, I would have felt comfortable choosing a higher rating for this book.

The description of Kristine and Noel’s marriage was well written. They’d been together for so long that they were obviously quite comfortable around each other. Seeing such a settled and stable couple go through a horrifying experience that defied explanation made it impossible for me to stop reading. I simply had to know what would happen to them next.

Dark Warm Heart made me shudder. It should be read by anyone who finds joy in being frightened.

I love the character of Joss and how independent and strong she was. Not just mentally but physically since she had to fight alien fighters twice her size.

When Kanaan claimed her, I thought for sure she would make a scene and deny or say no to that. But that was not what happened. Joss is a lot more self aware than some of the strong independent female characters I read about. She knows her strong and weak qualities; I think she had to learn it to survive in a world dominated by men.

Kanaan is a warrior, through and through. What I did not expect with him was him knowing that Joss was special to him, and in typical male fashion not saying how much he liked her.

The author has built a very interesting and different world. There were words that I only started to understand after I finished reading one third of the book. Though, I was expecting more in terms of explaining what the words meant it in no way hindered my ability to finish reading it.

This is a part of a series and it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. There were a lot of different species and a couple pieces of information that took me so long to understand, it became disconcerting.

Abaddon Rising is set in a futuristic world that ensnared me until the end.

But how could Jeffery ever imagine his entire life may be smoke and mirrors… just ephemeral fragments of dreams?

THE CYCLE OF HARM—enter a world of magic, mayhem, and mystery you may never be able to leave… if the Spirit of Lohocla captures you in its embrace!

I was excited to see this book pop up for review – I had read Ms. Snowy’s previous book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was not at all disappointed with this novel.

Ms. Snowy drops the reader squarely in the story with Montague and Harm imprisoned and Harm unconscious. I found myself wondering if this was the second part of a series and I had somehow missed the first book. Not to fear, though, I soon found myself caught up in the story.

I love these characters… especially Loom, a mute with a talent for communication, and Nolsun, who is caught up in the quest through no fault of his own. Their quest is saving villages… and they wander from village to village completing this task. Harm never remembers what happens once he becomes “the Legend” and Montague has to tell him the next morning. Harm trusts him without question.

There is more to this story that meets the eye and I cannot reveal more without major spoilers. This is a fun book—it’s an easy read and the characters are well worth spending a few hours with. Thanks, Ms. Snowy… I look forward to your next work.

All of his good qualities work together to balance out some of the underhanded and illegal choices he makes during the course of the story. In some situations, he has no other choice.

Cold Harbor was an engaging and exciting thriller. Although I tend to shy away from such overly political and military based novels, the author did an excellent job of balancing out the technical with the rest of the story. I never felt bogged down by things I didn’t understand or didn’t care to know. I did feel lost for most of the novel, however, since I hadn’t read the two in the series beforehand. If you are planning on reading Cold Harbor, I definitely suggest you start at the beginning with The Short Drop. I’m planning on rereading this as soon as I’ve read the others in the series.
