When a rodeo clown, a small town veterinarian and his assistant form a complicated trio, they find it’s their choices that determine who finds love.

When rodeo clown Brandt Collins is forced into retirement by an injury in the arena, he heads to long-time friend Kaden Slater’s hometown to settle down. As far as he’s concerned, if that old flame ignites into a wildfire, then all the better.

Kaden is glad to see Brandt, but a little complication in the form of Kaden’s new assistant, Mike, throws a wrench in all their plans. Sexy, smart and young, Mike wants Kaden more than he wants his next breath.

Soon, misunderstandings and the past conspire to tear the trio apart before they’ve even begun. And now it’s their choices that will determine who finds love—and who doesn’t.

At thirty five Brandt was no longer agile enough to be a rodeo clown. Kaden is a vet and has been one of Brandt’s best friends for many years. After they made their choices to remain close friends and not more, each had scrupulously kept their emotional distance from the other. Mike was Kaden’s vet assistant and while Kaden waited for his cowboy to come home, chemistry sizzled between Mike and Kaden. Can the three men come together and make choices that they can all live with?

This is a really sweet, warm-hearted short story. I loved the three characters of Kaden, Brandt and Mike and was pleased to watch these friends finally act on their feelings and become a threesome. There were some great secondary characters too. I found this to be quite a slow paced, steamy read. There is a delicious amount of chemistry between all three men – Kaden/Brandt and Kaden/Mike in particular – and watching this triangle become a menage was a lovely story. I loved the threesome scene when it finally came about – readers who enjoy a lot of buildup, chemistry and tension in their stories should not be at all disappointed.

I was impressed by the way the author kept the attraction and sexy desire between the three men simmering, with a few hot kisses and I felt the simmering sexual tension was a wonderful way to keep the eroticism of the story high without having endless, meaningless sex scenes padding the story out. This also made that final menage scene well worth the wait and hotter for all the buildup.

I really enjoyed this story and would happily recommend it to readers looking for a steamy, chemistry-strong threesome story.

Caroline Bouchard Duval marched with her husband in Napoleon’s army, eager to leave her sleepy village and see the world. But after being widowed, she returned to her childhood home in the French Alps. When a bloody traveler enters her father’s inn, she recognizes him immediately. Could this man give her another chance to fulfill her dreams?

When in France Peter Brown goes by the name of Pierre le Brun. Born in France of a french Mother and English father, he had grown up in England and fought for that country in the Napoleonic wars.

Caroline Bouchard Duval cooked for the guests in her father’s inn which was near the castle Pierre’s grandfather had owned, but been forced to sell. The two met toward the end of the wars and then went their separate ways.

Years later, on his way to Geneva Pierre had fallen from his horse and been taken to the inn where Caroline worked. They recognised each other, but Caroline concentrated on to helping her father while Pierre had business in Geneva. His journey was delayed by the injuries he sustained in the fall from his horse. This forced him to remain in the area for a few weeks.

Caroline and Pierre are two well rounded characters who are gradually drawn to one another. Neither wants to force their attentions on the other. A well written book which kept my interest throughout the pages. As I read, it was difficult to tell what the outcome would be, so I was pleasantly surprised by the events that took place.

Although short, this book had attraction, conflict and an undercurrent of a puzzle to be solved. A sweet romance set in the rural area of France so that the after effects of the Napoleonic wars did not trouble the population of the town. Good story.

She knows she can run, but Ruby also knows they’ll chase her. What she doesn’t know is if she’s ready to accept everything they want, and everything she finds out.

This was a sweet sexy shifter story. It was short but interesting and I enjoyed reading it.

The plot of this story was interesting and the characters were likeable but I was expecting more than the bit of low suspense. Ruby stood out to me as a very strong heroine who was willing to stand up for the right thing for everyone. She took the situation in stride at discovering her origins and that she would have three shifter mates. Get ready for some hot mating sex in this one. I was fine with that part but felt that the conflict ended a bit too suddenly. I liked the story, but it was missing something for me. To sum up my opinion, it was nicely written but not very exciting. A good read for a couple hours, anyway, and onward to the next book by this author.

I recommend this short sexy book as a quick and satisfying read for those who enjoy hot shifter romance.

The world is full of strange things that we’re only beginning to understand.

What I liked the most about “A Tale of Palpable Violence” was that it was full of intrigue. Sherry and Bram, the main characters, were driving down the road after a night that got their blood pumping. I couldn’t figure out if I was more curious to know what they’d done or where they were going to go next. Both questions were at the forefront of my mind as I searched for clues and answers. The clever twist at the end only made me enjoy this one even more.

All of the stories in this collection had great premises, although there were a handful of them that could have used a little more development. “New Year’s Eve, What a Gas” was one example of this. The storyline followed a young couple, James and Claire, who invited several other couples over for a New Year’s party. While working in the kitchen, Claire suffered a terrible and mysterious injury. The ending to their tale was a bit confusing to me because there weren’t many details about how she was able to get into that predicament in the first place. Her injuries were something that I’d never expect to happen to any reasonably intelligent adult, so I would have liked to spend more time exploring why they happened to her. If not for minor issues like these, I would have chosen a much higher rating for this collection as it was otherwise really good.

In “The Hermit of Russian Lake,” Keith and Becky Lane tried to rekindle their struggling marriage during a family vacation. While on their trip, Keith accidentally stumbled across a hermit who has been illegally squatting in the area for decades. All of the plot twists that happened after that scene were what made me love this tale. I didn’t see any of them coming, so it was a lot of fun to discover them. They constantly kept me wondering what would happen to Keith next and the hermit next.

At the Cemetery Gates: Year One should be read by anyone who enjoys surprises. This anthology is full of them!

Doing his job means walking away, leaving his heart behind with nothing but a promise to reunite. It’s a promise he can’t keep.

Wow, what a ride! Luke and Katya basically fall for each other after one hot night together, but lies, duty and betrayal pulls them right apart again.

Katya is horrified her father wants to marry her off to a creepy son of a Russian mobster, so she runs — but not before grabbing a flash drive her father prizes above all else as insurance. I have to admit, if I were on the run from my mobster father, I’d have left with nothing and given him less reason to track me down, so that didn’t gel with me entirely. Still, without the flash drive, we have no story, so I told my niggling voice to shush and kept reading, mostly because I really, really liked Luke.

Luke was awesome. Hot, sexy, smart, caring. His friendships were solid, especially with Gray, and (except when doing his covert job) he was honest and just a good guy. Although I get that he’s tough and a man’s man, it did get old that he used the F word as adverb, adjective and punctuation. After awhile, it’s just annoying. But, since that was essentially his only flaw, I could overlook that.

Katya annoyed me a bit at first. I was wondering why it was okay her father was a horrible human, but it took the threat of marriage to make her leave. She also did some incredibly thoughtless and impetuous things occasionally, bringing her perilously close to the TSTL (too stupid to live) precipice. Still, she did some changing and growing over time, and under it all it was clear she had a good heart, so I was willing to give her a chance. I’m glad I did.

The writing was solid and well crafted, and I didn’t notice any glaring editing problems. Honestly, the only thing that drove me a little wonky was the author’s choice of using third person POV for Luke, and first person POV for Katya. I’m not sure why she opted to write it this way, especially since each POV change has the person’s name noted so we know whose POV we’re in every moment. It was jolting, and off-putting for me. I honestly hope her follow up books don’t use this.

And for those of you who love a hot, explicit sex scene (or ten), this is a good book for you! Luke is an amazing and thoughtful lover to Katya, and she’s one lucky girl!

Kudos, too, for Ms. Fife for creating some wonderful secondary characters, especially those who were part of King Security. Gray was especially awesome, but that may only be because we got to know him the best. I look forward to reading more about all of the guys.  It’s a great set up for more exciting, sexy romantic suspense stories. Well done!

Aubrey kept bumbling into his mission and he kept saving her. Their chemistry was off the charts hot, flames instead of sparks, and the notorious seducer never knew what hit him.

Diego and Aubrey were wonderful vibrant characters who immediately captured my attention with their passionate, sometimes comical, escapades. He tried hard but still broke the rules time and again to keep her safe.

Michele Mannon’s writing was excellent in this book. The plot was fast paced and intricate with surprises to keep me guessing until the end. I had a vivid picture of Diego and Aubrey in my imagination that gave me a real good “feel” for them. I saw Aubrey as a strong, but naive, funny soft hearted person, which is exactly the type of woman who could melt Diego’s heart. I liked her sense of humor, and tenacity and passion. I felt they were perfect for each other and was waiting for Diego to stop pushing Aubrey away for her own good though he made me wait a while for that to happen. Together they were the most fun couple that I’ve met during my romantic book travels.

Hit Man is the third book the DEADLIEST LIES SERIES. There’s no doubt this is my favorite so far and I happily recommend it to everyone. In the romantic suspense department this book is one of the best I’ve ever read. I loved it that much !

But Vegas has finally started to work her charms on Nick. So when Al walks into Butterscotch Dreams out of the blue, Nick is shocked and maybe just a little bit happy. Can the two men work through their differences?

I really enjoyed this story. I found the history between Nick and Al to be really interesting and I quickly found myself quite emotionally invested in Nick. While I was a little surprised at how lust for Al clouded Nick’s better judgment, I couldn’t fault him for it as they’d been lovers and partners for many years. Besides, I felt Nick’s love and desire to believe the best of the situation added a wonderful realism to Nick’s character.

While some of the plot was quite easy to guess, the author managed to weave the story skillfully enough that I didn’t mind I could see certain aspects from a mile away. I was also really impressed how the author managed to make Al not appear like a cartoon villain. Sure, Al was in the wrong over a number of points, and Al was certainly a flawed man to my mind (being driven and ambitious to the point of blindness to everything else in particular) but he was not a “bad” or evil man in a traditional sense of a fictional villain. Also, having a few of the chapters told from Al’s perspective really helped me as a reader to get inside his head and understand where Al was coming from.

I also found myself deeply intrigued by Trip – Nick’s boss and only friend in Vegas. A funny misunderstanding meant that the working relationship and friendship between Nick and Trip added an twist into much of the plotline of this story. I had plenty of questions about Trip and deeply enjoyed learning more about him and truthfully he was my favorite character out of the three men.

I found this to be a great read with interesting, complicated characters, a great plot and plenty of twists. Recommended.

SOME FAMILIES YOU’RE BORN INTO. OTHERS YOU CHOOSE.

On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.

When Pete Solomon, a neglected twelve-year-old boy, and Justin bring a wounded wolf-dog hybrid to Dr. Lucy, the outcasts soon find refuge in one another. Lucy never thought she’d make connections again, never mind fall in love. Pete never imagined he’d find friends as loyal as Justin and the dog. But these four people aren’t allowed to be friends, much less a family, when the whole town turns violently against them.

With heavy hearts, Dr. Lucy and Pete say goodbye to Calvin and Justin. But through the years they keep hope alive…waiting for the world to catch up with them.

Disclaimer of sorts…I’ve had a couple of Catherine Ryan Hyde books stored on my Kindle for a few months but I have to admit I haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. So when the opportunity came to review another one of her books, I thought this would be a perfect way to introduce myself to a new author who so many have recommended to me. When I finished reading this title I knew I’d found a new favorite author and now I can’t wait to read the other two books.

This is a heartwarming story…can I call it historical? The story starts in 1959 and moves forward through the Sixties. Its setting is Texas and the time of racial tensions. All the characters in this book are so well crafted, I felt like I knew them. The story is told through the viewpoint of two of those characters Pete and Dr. Lucy. The two come together when Pete finds what he thinks is a dog, injured by the side of the road.

Dr. Lucy is somewhat of a recluse and although she’s a medical doctor, it’s animals who are now her patients. She’s a complex character but when a racial attack leaves Pete’s new young friend, Justin, needing emergency care, she meets with his father Calvin and soon the story reveals more about her.

Although this book is over 300 pages, I found myself compelled to keep reading just to find out what happens to these four people who you soon find yourself empathizing with and hoping that all is well.

It’s a beautiful story illustrating how friendship can rise about hatred and ignorance and heal those who sometimes seem broken by their past.

This is a book I recommend you put on your fall reading list.

Madeleine Frost has to get away. Her partner Liam has become increasingly controlling to the point that Maddie fears for her safety, and that of her young daughter Poppy .

Desperation leads Maddie to the hotel owned by her estranged father – the extraordinarily beautiful Wrea Head Hall in Yorkshire. There, she meets Christopher ‘Bandit’ Lawless, an ex-marine and the gamekeeper of the hall, whose brusque manner conceals a painful past.

After discovering a diary belonging to a previous owner, Maddie and Bandit find themselves immersed in the history of the old house, uncovering its secrets, scandals, tragedies – and, all the while, becoming closer.

Negative emotions kept me reading in a hurry—just had to get three-year-old Poppy out of that toxic place.

Poppy’s mother, Madeline Frost, the–not-very-self-sufficient heroine, and the dastardly bully, Liam O’Grady that Madeline lives with, have a scary relationship.

When Jess, Madeline sister, pressures Madeline to seek help from her father and get away from Liam’s control, the reader is transported to Wrea Head Hall, the house of secrets, where numerous new characters get involved in Madeline and Poppy’s lives. Among them is Bandit, the hero, a veteran with PTSD. He has a family history with Wrea Head Hall. This history comes to light bit by piece as the story unfolds—not until the very end do we know its real significance.

A new facet of the novel is ushered in when Emily Ennis’ diary, written primarily during the World War II years, is found. Secrets of the house–tunnels, rooms, and where they are and what happened in them intrigue. The diary actually creates a story within a story. How the past is connected to the present at Wrea Head Hall surprises.

About the time I thought a happy, romantic love story would start, the villainous Liam slithers back into the action. His unrelenting efforts to control, his devious ways, and his connection with all the misfortunes in Madeline life send the story into the realm of horror. Wrea Head Hall is not the only house with secrets.

While this story demands the reader’s close attention to details, its plot is so compelling one feels an urgency to keep reading—just how much is Madeline going to have to go through before she gets her happy-ever-after!

Lynda Stacey does a remarkable job of weaving together, back stories, foreshadowing, and a big cast of characters with the many facets of this story. How she takes flawed characters and redeems them is amazing. House of Secrets is an unusual, compelling novel.
