Character Interview and Giveaway: Tara from I Should Have Said Yes

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. J B Glazer will be awarding a $25 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

J B has stopped by to introduce us to the protagonist from her latest novel, I Should Have Said Yes. Meet Tara Winters: serial dater, blogger, interior designer, master’s student, and sometimes screw up. (With all of that on her plate, I guess we can cut the girl some slack)! She’s always regretted saying no to love interest D. J. Parker and vowed never to repeat her mistake. So her “yes” dating pact was born. Hence, Tara goes on A LOT of dates. Her followers find her life enviable, but all Tara wants is to settle down. Can the queen of dating disasters find her prince? Let’s ask her!
Q: Why a dating pact?
A: I know you’re probably thinking, “She’s desperate! Who would agree to such a thing?” Here’s the deal: when I was in high school I had a crush on someone, and in hindsight I think we had a real shot at a relationship. But I let my pride and, above all, fear, get in the way. So when he wanted to discuss our relationship, instead of telling him how I felt, I said no, he didn’t mean anything to me. But what I really wanted to say was yes. I vowed never to make that mistake again. And so my dating pact was born. I guess you could say it came from regret.

Q: What inspired you to start a blog?
A: Well, here I am years later, a serial dater, yet no step closer to finding the One. Hence, I go on a lot of dates. And I love sharing my disastrous experiences with friends and family. Someone should benefit, right? A wise classmate suggested I should start documenting my experiences, so my blog was born. I think she was thinking more along the lines of a book, but I’m not that committed. LOL! I hope that readers will find my stories entertaining. But I also hope that they’ll learn something. Knowing me, it will probably be a lesson in what not to do.

Q: What was the worst date you’ve been on?
A: That’s a tough one. There’s been a lot of them! I guess it would be my date with Liam. We hit things off and I really thought he had potential. But then he introduced me to his mom on our second date. He invited me to dinner and we were having drinks while waiting for a table. I noticed this cougar watching us from across the bar. It made me uncomfortable so I told Liam. I thought she wanted him! He laughed, motioned her over, and introduced us. He’s Canadian so I thought/hoped she was visiting from out of town. Nope! Needless to say I suggested they take our table for two.

Q: Do you believe in happily ever after?
A: Yes! It’s what keeps me sane throughout my many disastrous experiences. Trust me, I’ve kissed a lot of frogs. But if I didn’t believe there was a prince out there, I wouldn’t bother doing it. Everyone’s journey to HEA is different. I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I want and don’t in a partner. So when I finally find him, I’ll know! And because my journey wasn’t easy, I’ll appreciate it that much more.

Q: What’s your favorite part of dating?
A: I guess it would be that each date is a new possibility. My book starts with a quote from yours truly that talks about how dating is like bargain shopping. There’s the initial thrill of discovery, combing through endless racks in search of that perfect find. Sometimes an item looks right on the hanger, but when you try it on it just doesn’t fit. While you may leave empty-handed, the possibility of scoring the ultimate deal keeps you coming back for more. I think that about sums it up.

Q: What do you do to unwind?
A: I make jewelry. Some people do yoga, I string beads. I find it so relaxing. I actually have my own collection called Royal T. It’s a play on my name and my fascination with monarchy. I’m not saying that I agree with this type of caste system, but there’s something romantic about the notion of kings and queens. Grace Kelly is my fashion icon. But you’ll never find me copying her—I love making things my own. I’d describe my style as modern with a vintage influence. I guess you could say I’m a shabby chic kind of girl.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever given to your followers?
A: It would have to be, “Embrace yes.” I didn’t say yes when I had the chance years ago and I’ve regretted it ever since. It’s a terrible burden that I carry with me. So never be afraid to say what’s in your heart. Just go for it and have faith that things will work out as they’re supposed to. So often we say no because we are scared of the outcome. Don’t let fear rule your decisions. Take a leap of faith. Sometimes things won’t work out as you planned, but the unexpected path may just be the right one.

Q: What’s next for you?
A: I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say Unattached T (that’s my screen name) has got some strings! I know I’m not supposed to reveal the ending, but it’s right there in the table of contents before page one. So not much of a spoiler, is it? Anyway, I’m keeping my fingers and all body parts crossed (well, maybe not ALL) that things work out. I’m great at dating, but being someone’s girlfriend is another story. So let’s hope that I don’t screw this up. You’ll discover I do that sometimes. Thanks for taking the time to chat with me. Ciao for now! xx

Blogger extraordinaire Tara Winters has always regretted saying no to D. J. Parker. She vowed never to repeat her mistake, and her “yes” dating pact was born. After meeting countless Mr. Wrongs, she’s seriously considering her friend Andy’s drunken marriage proposal. Then Andy meets Natalie, and Tara finds herself competing for his affection. She must decide if it’s love—or a game to win. After each outrageous date Tara shares advice with her followers, but embracing “no” just may be her key to happiness.

The soft opening of the Gallerie, a restaurant that my firm helped design, was a success. I also met an adorable chef while I was there. OK, he’s technically not a chef yet, but he’s studying to become one. Right now he’s the bartender, and I almost let that dissuade me from giving him a chance. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’m at the point where I want to be with someone who has high aspirations, which he does. He made me a delicious drink, so that’s also a bonus in my book. If you check out the Gallerie, which you should, ask for the T. W. Twist! I just made it up, but I think it has a nice ring to it, don’t you? I’ll have to talk to them about that. Anyway, something I’ve discovered is that I’m attracted to guys who are creative—they don’t call it the culinary arts for nothing. I’m more of a freethinker, so I don’t mesh well with analytical types. And I like a guy who sets a goal for himself and goes for it. That’s an admirable quality and says something about his character. We haven’t gone out yet, so I’ve probably already jinxed myself. But I’m excited about seeing him again and would’ve said yes on my own accord, not because of some pact. More to come. Ciao for now!

“Gee, Miss Plumtartt, after our calamitous arrival on this unsuspecting city, do you think we are still under threat of imminent murder by gangs of assorted, yet stylish, assassins?”

It’s a good thing we have enlisted the assistance of this notorious, Victorian-era London detective to assist us in this baffling murder mystery adventure, for I fear there is more to this tale than meets the eye!”

What fun! This steampunk mystery is told very much (and unapologetically) tongue-in-cheek. It is obvious that it’s not the first volume of the series, but can be easily read on its own.

Ichabod Temperance and his companion Persephone Plumtartt arrive in England and are instantly plunged into a rousing adventure and well as making the acquaintance of a certain detective whose last name is Holmes and who has a brother high-placed in British circles. The brother wishes his younger sibling would settle down and do something with his intellect.

The story is told from many different POVs which is surprisingly not as confusing as I would have thought. Each POV character has very much his/her own voice so it was instantly evident who was doing the talking.

And, the laughs! My poor husband was trying to read his own book but kept being interrupted. “Let me read you this part!”

I adore Temperance and Plumtartt, however I would be amiss if I did not mention the supporting characters and how much they added to the story. My very favorites had to be the BarbaraHaughnne brothers, Yababadabadoiah and Scubidubeduiah. As you can see, there are many cultural in-jokes that will not detract from your enjoyment of the book if you don’t get them, but add another level of pleasure when you do—so much so I now want to reread the book just to find them!

I am so going to go back and buy the rest of the books in the series—starting with book one. Mr. Ichabod Temperance, you have found a new fan!

Mel Hargrove, eighties enthusiast, is the protector of much more than random cars and broken washing machines. Each piece in her precious junkyard has a ghost attached to it. No one in Frysville is aware of the secret that’s just down the road from them, and she wants to keep it that way. But when she finds naked statues of aging townspeople in the main square, she must figure out if someone, or something, is missing from her junkyard and out causing havoc. With a host of ghosts behind her and her new boyfriend beside her, Mel is ready to take on almost anything. Almost being the operative word…

Mel had very few friends, but she took care of a lot of ghosts in her salvage yard. Her father spent most of his time on the road collecting salvage with ghosts attached to them. Some of the resident ghosts earned their keep by attending to matters in the community which would be difficult for a fully fleshed human to do. Others stayed for a while then passed to the other side.

Her loneliness ended when she met Becker, the local vet, and they started dating. He gradually became aware of the ghosts and Mel was relieved when it didn’t seem to make any difference to their relationship.

Their peaceful existence changed when marble statues began appearing in the center of the town and Mel is convinced it has something to do with a rogue ghost. She and Becker set out to capture the ghost and return the statues to life.

This book is warm and lighthearted with a little bit of strength and determination. I knew Mel and Becker would win as they are such strong characters. There was no way Mel was going to let a ghost terrorize the town. A bit of humor also helped the story along and I found it to be one of those books I couldn’t put down. Although only 86 pages long, it packs a lot into these pages and provided me with an excellent few hours of reading.

Expecting the astronaut’s baby!

Dr. Corinne Carter’s job as medical adviser heats up when daredevil Austin Mitchell joins the astronaut training program. And it’s soon clear their chemistry is hotter than a Texas summer!

When a man gets sexually stimulated the nerve endings in the penis send a release of nitric oxide, which is responsible for stimulating the action of testosterone, decrease davidfraymusic.com cialis generic cipla sexual desire or damage arteries, thus leading to healthy erection and that too for a longer period of time. Smoking is one of the habits, which most people find the cost of branded drugs such as canada cialis, too high for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Along with the consumption of the capsules daily workouts viagra online and taking healthy diets is very important. It reduces the generic levitra without prescription problem of poor alertness and poor brain functions. For all his cheeky self-confidence, gorgeous Austin makes this relationship-shy doctor feel out of this world. So when their sizzling fling has an unexpected consequence, does Corrine dare to dream of a home and a future with her star-bound pilot?

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy because we place a yoke of expectations heavily upon our shoulders without examining the cost. It’s even worse when you try to live up to someone else’s expectations of you while not realizing it. The cost for that could be even higher. What happens when you figure it out? What do you do? Those questions and more provide the perfect internal conflict for the hero, Austin Mitchell.

For the heroine, Corrine, she needs to be in control because it makes her feel safe. Why would someone go to such lengths to insure that control? How is she going to react when someone has a knack for making her lose the very thing she holds dear? Because Austin pushes every button she has and she’s trying to resist him.

Both Austin and Corrine have some pretty convincing internal conflicts to overcome. Also, a reader is taken on an in depth exploration of the challenges to becoming an astronaut. The trials and tribulations are daunting. Those that make it have earned it, with interest. The author even throws in some external calamities that show readers the strengths and weaknesses of the main characters. Those crises were short in duration but effective.

I realize that Austin is hard on himself. He pushes his limits and has to ace everything, and I do mean everything, in order to make the program. I guess that is what bothers me about this story – he’s too perfect. He never slips up. He’s so confident and savvy consistently that I had a hard time believing in his perfection. Does that make sense? It took a while for the author to bring up something that made him seem more approachable and believable. It works for the most part but I would have enjoyed a bigger tug on my emotions by his character.

The one thing I totally enjoyed was their blossoming romance and how they really were good together. I liked how they brought out the best in each other, of course that’s after they figure out that they ARE better together than apart.

The Doctor’s Baby Secret has a satisfying happy ending and the novel was entertaining. I liked that they found a dream they could pursue together while being true to themselves. This is a nice story and worth checking out.

I wish I knew the songs written in the book from Mason, the hero, to Tegan, the heroine, were real and on YouTube prior to reading the book. Never have I read a book where the story and characters were as vividly alive in the room with me as the characters in this story were. I think that if I had listened to the songs as they appeared in the book, I would have melted on the spot. Maybe even go as far as faint on the spot.

I sincerely fell in love with every aspect of this story. It was uniquely clever how the author incorporated a love story on the side through Tegan reading old love letters from an ancestor. It was sheer brilliance how the author connected the closings of those love letters with the last few pages of the book. I appreciated the detail of the key that Tegan wore around her neck to the detail of her middle name. All of these special mentions made the book remarkable in my eye.

I can’t rave enough about this story. Melody’s Key was heartwarming, sweet, sensual, romantic, heartbreaking, gut wrenching with a touch of despair, funny, sad, happy, hopeful, happy, ecstatic, hilarious, and all satisfying! I can think of a specific event for each of those feelings. This book was a great ride and one that I didn’t want to end.

I fell in love with Tegan’s entire family. Her parents were supporting and her sister was hilarious with her pranks. I’ve never been to London but if I did I’d love to see Tegan’s estate. I’d want to curl up with a blanket under the old tree with big roots. I wish the characters and places in this book were real.

Everything about this book worked. My interest was captured from the first page to the last. I couldn’t put the book down. Reading as the romance budded and blossomed between Mason and Tegan was scrumptious. The story was consistently enthralling from beginning to end.

I highly recommend everyone to read this book. I would love to see this book made into a movie. I’d pay to go see this movie the night it’d premiere. I’d buy this book. I’d actually read it more than once. Those who know me know that I never read a book twice. I’m tempted to re-read it now just to pause at the song parts. 🙂 This is seriously a major “book glow” book!

Jamie Pyke, son of both a slave and master of Tall Oakes, has a deadly secret that compels him to take a treacherous journey through the Underground Railroad.

Published in 2010, The Kitchen House became a grassroots bestseller. Fans connected so deeply to the book’s characters that the author, Kathleen Grissom, found herself being asked over and over “what happens next?” The wait is finally over.

This new, stand-alone novel opens in 1830, and Jamie, who fled from the Virginian plantation he once called home, is passing in Philadelphia society as a wealthy white silversmith. After many years of striving, Jamie has achieved acclaim and security, only to discover that his aristocratic lover Caroline is pregnant. Before he can reveal his real identity to her, he learns that his beloved servant Pan has been captured and sold into slavery in the South. Pan’s father, to whom Jamie owes a great debt, pleads for Jamie’s help, and Jamie agrees, knowing the journey will take him perilously close to Tall Oakes and the ruthless slave hunter who is still searching for him. Meanwhile, Caroline’s father learns and exposes Jamie’s secret, and Jamie loses his home, his business, and finally Caroline.

Heartbroken and with nothing to lose, Jamie embarks on a trip to a North Carolina plantation where Pan is being held with a former Tall Oakes slave named Sukey, who is intent on getting Pan to the Underground Railroad. Soon the three of them are running through the Great Dismal Swamp, the notoriously deadly hiding place for escaped slaves. Though they have help from those in the Underground Railroad, not all of them will make it out alive.

This book felt like a gift to me. I was so eager to see what happened after The Kitchen House and excited that the characters from The Kitchen House characters had a connection to the characters in this book. I was not disappointed. In fact, this book was so many things. Entertaining, realistic, had a brilliant use of language, vivid characters, numerous sudden and unexpected plot twist and was definitely a book that was hard to put down.

James Burton’s life is told in a story that is gripping and engaging from the first page. The fast moving narrative is superbly written. Ms. Grissom is truly a talented storyteller. The plot is well planned out. In the beginning while the foundation of the story was being laid out it did get a little confusing on the time line of events, but the author easily smoothed it over by keeping the plot and storyline moving.

Jamie Pyke and Henry find themselves both together under circumstances that cause them both to be in hiding. From this relationship forms a lasting bond that carried these two men into years later that shows sometimes favors may need to be returned. Pan, the young son of Henry, is left with James Burton because Henry can’t bring his son to his job. Pan is taught to read and write, speak proper English and how a man should dress. Feeling grateful to Mr. Burton’s kindness, Pan sets out on a mission to get a gift for Mr. Burton, but in doing so he disobeys his father and heads towards the shipyard. Pan gets kidnapped and sold into slavery. Then James Burton finds himself running from secrets that have been uncovered and with a promise to find Pan James uses this time to leave Philadelphia.

I can’t summarize all that happened, I can only say this is a story that is well worth reading. The character’s lives and details are so real. The story is a mixture of heartbreak with smiles of joy and love. The story was so real I was there with the characters and the story was painted with such a visual skill a reader can see the story unfolding. The anticipation of how James would be able to live after he has been exposed was amazing. And the even deeper suspense as to how Pan would be rescued and would lives be lost during their escape kept me enthralled.

This story is wonderful all around. Glory Over Everything lives up to its title by the payoff at the novel’s end. The plot, character, the writing were incredible. I am not sure if I had tears of happiness for Jamie’s ending or sadness because the story was ending. I see another story happening on the life of Adelaide. Her spirit is so bright I can’t see the author not letting it shine.

In addition to The Kitchen House being on the list of my favorite books, I’ll be adding the sequel to that list as well. Highly recommended to readers who enjoy a superb written storyline that’s guaranteed to keep your attention.

Antonia Bingham has spent months renovating the Windmill Inn in East Hampton and it had now been open for six weeks. The restaurant was doing well, and the hotel part was gradually gathering momentum. Antonia was happy, until she heard about the curse on the inn and the suspicions concerning the death of the previous owner.

A naturally curious person, Antonia sets out to find the truth behind the curse which states the innkeepers always die in suspicious circumstances. Will she be the next one to be murdered?

The story is captivating and I was never sure if the previous owners had been murdered or Antonia was merely fitting the facts to her theory. This was until suspicious things began to happen and then I tried to work out ‘who dunnit?’. There were several suspects who could have murdered the previous owner, each with a reason for wanting him dead. At times Antonia’s thoughts brought a lightheartedness to the story, especially when she becomes star struck with a local celebrity.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. A mystery/murder story with several twists and turns. By the time I reached the end I believed I’d worked out the murderer, but had to wait to see if I was right. It could have been one of several people and the plot was so convoluted the murder could have been a purely innocent death.

When charming rake Tristan Barrett sweeps Lady Elizabeth off her feet, stealing both her heart and a kiss in a secluded garden, her brother challenges Tristan to a duel. The only way to save her brother and Tristan from harm—not to mention preserve her reputation—is to get married. But her father, the Duke of Pemberton, refuses to allow his daughter to marry anyone but a titled lord. The duke demands that Elizabeth marry Tristan’s older brother, Richard, the Earl of Averston. Now Elizabeth must give up Tristan to marry a man who despises her, a man who loves another, a man she’ll never love.

Richard fears Elizabeth is as untrustworthy as his mother, who ran off with another man. However, to protect his brother from a duel and their family name from further scandal, he agrees to the wedding, certain his new bride will betray him. Yet when Elizabeth turns his house upside down and worms her way into his reluctant heart, Richard suspects he can’t live without his new countess. Will she stay with him or is it too little, too late?

Two people, with childhood traumas, want to be loved but are afraid to trust.

Guarding one’s heart too closely, and, conversely, giving one’s heart too freely, in hopes of being loved, are themes fueling much of the action in Courting the Countess.

The stringent rules set forth by the ton plus uncharitable gossipers end up making Lady Elizabeth’s brother, Martindale challenge Tristan Barrett to a duel. How it can be averted becomes an issue.

All her life, Lady Elizabeth, the daughter of the Duke of Pemberton, has been made to feel lacking to the point she feels she is “unlovable.” When the rake Tristan Barrett pays attention to her, she falls for the skilled libertine’s seductive ways. She’s in love with him and fails to guard her reputation, creating a situation that is a social “no-no.”

Tristan’s brother, Richard Barrett, twelfth Earl of Averston, intercedes. He talks to the Duke of Pemberton and agrees to the Duke’s demands to stop the duel.

Richard and Elizabeth, virtual strangers, marry. Neither wants to have a brother’s blood on their conscience. Thus begins an emotionally fraught vicarious adventure for the reader.

The couple, both of whom have secret hurts from their childhoods, set in to built a life together. The emotional upheavals that demand introspection and honest responses tumble them toward maturity with lots of bumps and bruised feelings along the way—captivating reading.

The primary antagonist who warped Elizabeth’s self-esteem doesn’t let up even after she is married. It made this reader want to reach right into the story and give that character a good shake and talking to—good grief, how cruel could a person be!

A sub-plot about crime threads through the story and seems almost unrelated. How it finally fits, creates some heart-pounding action that clears up many issues.

Donna Hatch weaves together a compelling love story with emotionally damaged characters and skillfully moves them along with attention-keeping happenings that lead to healing and redemption and, of course, a heart-satisfying happy-even-after.

Good Reading!

Lynx shifter Aleks is a stripper by night. That’s how he pays his rent. He tries not to mix business with pleasure, which is usually easy enough — his customers are mostly bridal parties, and Aleks is into guys. Then the most beautiful man he’s ever seen walks into the club, and all bets are off.

Rafe is also a big cat shifter, and he’s immediately drawn to Aleks and all that amazing golden skin. Too bad Rafe doesn’t want anything full time, especially since Aleks wants a Master as well as a lover. Can they find enough common ground to make it work, or will Aleks end up back on stage?

Aleks likes his job at Hot Tin Roof. It doesn’t bother him to dance or strip because he has a strict rule to only play with humans. Never a shifter and never a cat larger than he is. Only then comes Rafe, and soon Aleks is sorely tempted to throw caution – and all his sensible rules – right out the window.

I enjoyed this slow-paced erotic romance. I loved that we saw the whole progression of the relationship in such a short story. When Aleks and Rafe meet Rafe recognizes exactly what Aleks is, and that knowledge tempts Aleks to cast aside his normally quite sober rules. I loved the pacing the author gave this story, a lovely slow burn that really appealed to me. I enjoyed getting to know both characters, watching them learn about each other and finally come together.

The chemistry between the two men was astounding and this helped make me feel like that final consummation was just explosive. I loved the building tension between Aleks and Rafe and felt their happiness together was just the icing on the cake. There is a very small amount of BDSM lifestyle in the story – Aleks is submissive at heart, and while Rafe likes to be in charge the sex between them isn’t strictly BDSM, some of their relationship discussion and preferences lean in that direction.

I found this to be an interesting, emotional and relationship-focused erotic story and one I greatly enjoyed. I’d happily read both more stories from the author and more in this series down the track.

Allison Stiles is the epitome of responsibility. Guardian to her two rambunctious younger brothers, she also runs a home daycare. While she doesn’t have time for a vacation, she really needs a diversion.

Enter Eric Thomas, her new neighbor. Tall, dark and handsome and just what she needs to get her mind off her responsibilities, even if only for a short time.

Moving into the house he inherited from his uncle was not part of Eric Thomas’ plan. Yet, starting a new business ties up a good portion of his capital, so he forgoes the fancy downtown apartment for the quaint Rogers Park neighborhood.

Now if he could just get his mind off his sexy neighbor and back on the business at hand.

Eric is excited about moving into his uncle’s house and starting his business again in a larger city with more potential clients. His partner will join him later, once he’s found an office for them. He’s not excited about the daycare center across the street…

This is sweet short story that is fun to read. Eric has no experience with children but that’s going to change. Allison has set aside having a love life to raise her two younger brothers and has no time for romance. The author makes every situation sound authentic, the story flows well, and it ends well, too. This is a light read that’s enjoyable and keeps your attention.

When her brothers get in trouble at school, her neighbors aren’t home to help, so she asks Eric for help. He’s not happy about it but he is interested in her so he says yes. When she gets back, he’s covered in paint, has been vomited on and he just runs out of the house, even forgetting his jacket. That’s not a good start for a relationship.

It’s a slow smooth romance that includes lots of children, several challenges and some attitude changing and growing on both sides. Reading about the children’s antics was half the fun.

This is a really pleasant read. Get yourself a cup of coffee or tea, find a comfy chair and read this uplifting story. Ms. Fraser did a very nice job with a full romance in a short story. I’d read more by this author and I think you will, too.
