Betrayed by her once-upon-a-naive-time friends, Serena, the last Water Fey, can’t touch any man she would ever want without dooming him to a hero’s brutal death. So she lives outcast among her own kind, caring for orphaned Fey children, casualties of an ancient war that broke magic and doomed the Fey to possible extinction.

Now her friends are back, desperate to use her powers to stop the return of the greatest evil the Fey have ever faced. Prophesy says if she doesn’t magic-up a hero and bond him to a mysterious, mystical sword, the human world will be the next to fall.

Both men want her, both need her, and both have a claim to her heart.

But Serena’s tired of human heroes dying because some Water Fey said so. With her combat boots strung tight and her corset even tighter, it’s time to weave some new lines of destiny.

Serena has certainly found herself in an impossible situation. As the last Water Fey, her powers and the hero of her choosing are the only chance left at saving the world for humans as well as the Fey. Serena’s life hasn’t been easy, and she isn’t at all sure the world is worth saving. However, when her old friend Chloe calls for her help, Serena reluctantly agrees to a meeting, even if it means seeing Rachel again. Once I read how dire the situation is, I couldn’t fault Serena for walking away, but even in the first pages of this story I could tell that Serena isn’t a quitter. Chloe wants to save the world and I could tell that Serena was going to figure out a way to make it happen.

Serena is an interesting character. She has suffered a lot at the hands of people she should have been able to trust. Consequently, she is understandably very guarded. She wears her makeup and corset like armor against the rest of the world. As I read, I couldn’t believe how many hard choices Serena faced. She has to make a lot of personal sacrifices for the good of the mission as well as for the sake of repairing relationships. Once Serena is fully on board with the plan to save the world, she takes on immense responsibility. She is uncompromising and unwilling to sacrifice anyone along the way.

The relationship between Serena, Chloe, and Rachel is beyond toxic. It was quite painful to read, especially when the trio first reconnected. Few details were initially revealed concerning the tragic circumstances that caused the friendship to fracture. However, the little I knew left me very confused about why Chloe and Rachel seemed so indifferent to the pain Serena endured. Gradually more details were revealed that went a long way to explaining everyone’s behavior. I do wish those details had been provided sooner in the story.

I am pleased to say that Serena and Chloe truly mend their relationship. Unfortunately, Serena and Rachel will never be close again. They can barely manage to be polite to each other. The only reason they tolerate each other is for the sake of the mission and Chloe. From what I read, I don’t believe Rachel has any redeeming qualities. While I know that Rachel’s life has been far from perfect, it certainly doesn’t in any way excuse her behavior.

Overall, I liked reading Serena’s Fall. Serena is an intriguing and well rounded character, and I’m curious to know what will happen next. Serena and Chloe accomplished a lot in this book, but the world is still in peril. I hope that Mr. Smith has a sequel planned for Serena and her friends.

One Aussie. One Texan. One baby. One hell of a fight.

When his sister and her husband are killed in an accident, Aussie cattle station owner Lachlan McCoughney rushes to Texas to rescue their infant daughter, Chloe. He expects to find his niece living in squalor with the Sheffields, a rodeo family.

Instead, Lachlan finds Holden Sheffield, a salt-of-the-earth cowboy running a huge business operation. They want to explore their mutual attraction despite the many problems thrown their way, and together, they must find a way to give Chloe a new family and find a love that spans thousands of acres and two continents.

You make the job of spam filters easier by using words like, “money, finance, delivery overnight viagra , love, etc.” Even if your product comes under the ambit of these keywords, try and be more tactful when defining a dating service and not try to sell love. Heartbreaking tragedy may have brought them together but love for a precious baby and each other will make them a family.

If the death of Chloe’s parents wasn’t enough for these families to deal with, a group of desperate and bumbling would be baby-nappers keeps the anxiety and tension rolling in. I wasn’t worried about the baby being found safely but I was curious to see how it affected Holden and Lachlan and I also had a sneaking suspicion that Ryan and Dez were going to need to blow off some steam once the dust settled.

There’s a lot going on in this story to say the least. At the heart of it, who was going to be responsible for the baby and would she be calling Texas home or Australia or both? I was rooting for both but with both Holden and Lach being business men in their own right, how would they make it work once they realized they wanted it to work? The chemistry between the characters was there so I had a vested interest to keep reading to see how the author would work it out.

There’s this whole backstory about Lachlan’s sister. I had to piece together the life she had in Oz with her family being just shy of celebrity status because of their wealth. I’m still wasn’t completely clear on what all had happened to her but I understood she wanted to run away from some bad memories and Landon represented that escape.

This book wore me out but I couldn’t put it down. I swear nothing was going right for Holden, except the sexual chemistry with Lachlan. Besides that, if it could go wrong it went wrong times ten. I don’t know that a single person could take this much anxiety and stress and come out sane on the other side. It just felt like a lot. I think if Holden hadn’t been trying to shoulder it all, if he’d let more of his family, Lach’s family, leaned at least a little on somebody, I was kind of hoping Lach would spank him after he goes after the kidnappers with only a ranch hand to help.

There are a lot of extra’s in this novel. Two sets of families with two set of grandparents plus all the ranch hands. It was a lot to keep up with. Both sets of grandparents, understandably, want Chloe in their lives. The arrangement the men work out makes the most sense. I’m curious about the security company Ryan and Dez create. Those two have some lovely volatile chemistry that is sure to be explosive when they give into it.

Two men who lost so much so quickly and both wanting the connection that comes with having Chloe in their lives. I wanted to see how they worked it out. The author brought this story to a satisfying conclusion. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy the western scene and stories full of heart.

Since Ethan’s world was turned upside down by a breakup, he’s been lost, accused of malicious vandalism, and waiting for the next anvil to fall. When it comes in the form of a beautiful surgeon, the last thing he wants or expects is to fall in love again. Tate isn’t a stranger to loss. When he’s faced with losing another person close to his heart, he turns to the one person that seems to understand. But Paris does more than that. She gives him hope of a life spent with her between him and Ethan forever.

Ethan and Tate had their hearts broken when the woman in their ménage left them. Paris is a surgeon, one of the best, and is well used to patching up people when the worst things happen. What she isn’t used to though, is the urge to heal someone’s heart emotionally. Medicine is her business and passion, her emotions rarely take over in that department. But Ethan and Tate are special, different, and Paris wants to go that extra step with them, to hell with the risks involved. Can the three of them manage to work things out?

This is an intensely emotional story, burning hot and yet still light enough I laughed in a few places. Both Ethan and Tate have had their hearts ripped out by a previous lover, they both still carry the wounds and mistrust from their past. I enjoyed how Paris was sensible enough to embrace that, and the two men, but not let it overshadow the slow progress of their new relationship. While she wanted to heal both the men, their attraction was deep and instant. Their connections were real, and I was glad the author allowed us to read about their progress of coming together at a slow enough pace that I could enjoy it.

I found the whole build up to the ménage quite realistic. I loved falling deeply into the story. Paris, Ethan and Tate’s characters all were wonderfully complex, full of layers and issues, positive and negative traits that had me feeling like they could be real people, vibrant and interesting. I was a little jarred from the story when I read how the town they lived in had three times as many men than women – and how from that, ménage living arrangements were quite commonplace and openly discussed. At that point a lot of the realistic nature of the story dropped away for me, but it was the only big jolt I found throughout the story. And when Ethan, Tate and Paris finally all came together – phew it burned right off the pages and made up for any plot holes I might have found.

A steamy hot, wonderfully fun, sexy read this is a great ménage story and an interesting world I would happily read more books about.

She can barely walk and chew gum… scratch that, she shouldn’t even try, and he has dancing skills worthy of the big screen. Then there’s the fact that she’s all about numbers and spreadsheets and as Simon puts it “math is made of evil”. It wasn’t hard to see that they had sexual attraction but I wanted to know that it went deeper.

The story is a little cliche with some of the secondary characters being “world famous” this or married to a “world famous” that but, I was more interested in how klutzy Veronica was going to handle uber sexy Simon and what happens when her ultra conservative family finds out about his extra curricular dancing? He wants to be a choreographer for a local prestigious dance company but doesn’t seem too concerned about them finding about about his late night stage shows. It felt a little unbelievable but the author was weaving an interesting ‘what if” kind of story and I wanted to see where it went.

One thing about the writing that caught my attention, in a good way, was the author’s attention to describing the setting and atmosphere in detail. The way she describes the strip club, the lights and music, the way she dresses the characters, it was colorful and three dimensional. I could see it and felt drawn into the scene.

I did pick up on one or two inconsistencies within the story that drew me out briefly (one sentence says she’d never eaten at Esmeralda’s and the next chapter begins by stating it’s her favorite place). The other was his knowledge and then seeming lack of knowledge about the Ballet Gala. These weren’t game ending issues, just noticeable items that are easily fixed.

I haven’t read any of Ms. Alsen’s other books but I did check them out after I met Veronica’s friends. I’d like to read the others to get a better feel for this town and these people. There’s some insta-love between Simon and Veronica that could be attributed to the fact that this is a short story. I did enjoy the fact that love seemed to give Veronica some growth and self confidence. She was able to stand up to her snooty parents and ask for what she wanted.

This is an enjoyable short story and piqued my interest to see how some of the other couples came together. Readers who enjoy opposites attract kind of stories, will likely enjoy this little novella.

In Book Two, almost two years have passed when Angus gets another assignment. He’s back in the saddle, riding the Rio Chama south to its confluence with the Rio Grande in New Mexico. The Valles Caldera is a pressure cooker novel set in New Mexico’s Jemez Mountains. For millions of years the caldera escaped human notice. In the 1700s it sustained generations of Indians, Hispanics, and Anglos. It also became a perfect hideout for Mendoza Mendoza and his men. They hope to ambush Marshal Angus and his posse. But Angus and No Mas won’t be stopped. “The unmistakable boom of a 12-guage shotgun came from up above, at the rim of the caldera. Then, muzzle fire and sharp cracks from our right, up the steep trail, and close. The shotgun went silent, but the high ping and clink of rifle fire rained down on us from everywhere. I heard what I thought was a horse hitting hard earth. The shooters kept firing. I could hear horses crashing through heavy underbrush, men cussing, and return fire flaring up. Sliding my hand down the reins, I tightened up on No Mas, drew my Buntline, and put the spurs to him.” Then, all hell broke loose.

Mr. Stuart writes a good western with a lot of facts about the history of the area and the people that populate it. He does in an amusing way. The Sheriff talks to his horse and we get a history lesson along the way. While the story flows well, I found myself getting impatient while reading. You know there’s a gunfight coming and it doesn’t happen until the end of the book.

While the Sheriff is making his way back to Colorado for his orders, a river bank gives way and his horse gets injured. He leaves the horse at the blacksmith and takes the train to Denver. There he gets the order to attempt to get information out of the man on death row.

His replacement horse was real cheap because he wouldn’t let anybody ride him. Angus just takes it slow and they become partners in not too much time. Angus saves a woman from abuse and gets his name on a Mexican’s list for death and branding. They take pride to a fault. Angus also meets the new stable owner and it’s a female. A good looking female, who is also a gunsmith. Angus can’t believe how pretty she looks in a dress, since she hardly ever wears one.

He accomplishes what he set out to do and he tries his darnedest to stay out of the way of the Mexican but when the Mexican tries to kill his woman, it’s time for blood…

The West was no place for sissies.

What an awesome job to have, a personal shopper. I can see where it would take someone who could think on their feet and know the layout and inventory of a large department store, to make the job successful. Isabelle fit the bill. She seemed cultured, had traveled some and knew how to speak to affluent clients. She didn’t seem the type to try and entice her male clientele but the insta-lust between her and Mr. Johnson went from zero to sixty in less than ten seconds.

I got the impression that Bailey might be Dom. He was totally turned on when Isabelle was kneeling before him in the shoe department as well has helping him try on dress coats. And then there was the whole “I need to purchase a corset or three”.

At one point, I did ask myself if this store had security cameras. If so, whoever was in charge of watching those monitors was getting an eye full. It was hot, I particularly enjoyed the bedding department scene, but pretty tame right up until they reached the top floor, lingerie. There’s a buildup of the tension that starts the moment he steps out of his limo and it literally culminates on the top floor. The only thing that really pulled me out of the moment is that the author continued to refer to the hero as “Mr. Johnson”. I guess it could have been to keep him in the position of a dominant in the minds of readers but I think I was expecting more intimate dialogue by the time he’s been released to act on their attraction.

There was a point where I had to decide to suspend disbelief and simply enjoy the hot moment with them. It’s fantasy short story all about how amazing it would be for someone in Isabella’s position to meet someone as intense and sexy as Mr. Johnson. I enjoyed it for what it was.

This story is an HFN with plenty of potential for a HEA if they take time to get to know each other outside the bedroom. I could see this story being extended to include both more real time and more play time.

For readers short on time but looking for some lovely sexy dream fuel, this should fit the bill.

What happens when your teammate is also your biggest rival … and the hottest guy you know?

A cocky, charismatic bad boy…

Miles Hann is the best freestyler on his college swim team. He works hard, and plays harder. He’s got no complaints…except for his new teammate.

Jake gets on his last nerve. First he criticizes Miles’ form, then beats his time during practice. It wouldn’t be so bad if he weren’t so unnervingly sexy–Miles doesn’t know whether to punch him or kiss him.

Too bad Jake is straight.

Jake Anderson won’t compromise his swimming for anyone, even hotshot Miles. But he doesn’t mean to get under the other man’s skin…he’d rather be right up against it. His steely self-control seems to melt when Miles is around.

Too bad Miles is straight and can’t stand him. Jake can’t stop imagining what it would be like if they both lost control–together.

Turbulent waters…

No one’s more surprised than Miles and Jake when their rivalry becomes something much more intimate. But keeping what they’ve found is like swimming upstream. Can they prevail against the forces pushing them apart, or is a real relationship forever out of their reach?

Competition can breed rivals but it can also disguise interest. Miles and Jake are determined to convince themselves and their team mates that they don’t like each other. Not even a little bit. To slightly mis-quote Hamlet’s mother, “the (men) doth protest too much, methinks”.

When winning is at stake, it felt completely natural that Miles and Jake would act like rival swimming jocks to each other’s faces but then secretly be attracted to the very arrogance and athleticism they act like they hate. It was actually kind of funny. I could see them scowling at each other but it was really just frustration. They were totally attracted to each other but was so sure the other was straight. Until the party. The scene on the deck is intense, as first kisses often are, but once they both see the green light to take it further, it went from intense to smoking up my screen in 2.5 seconds. It was like all that pent up frustration had finally reached the point of no return.

These guys are in college and I liked that the author didn’t act like the only thing they had going on after they hook up was hooking up. Real life meant school, swim practice, friends and stress. Lots of stress. Miles and Jake are very similar but how they handled the stress of the upcoming competition is what set them apart. Everybody reacts a little differently to stress. It was a nice bit of conflict for the characters but thankfully it wasn’t drawn out forever. Real issue but also real resolution.

I’m a little curious about the other members of the swim team. Eli especially. He seemed attracted to Miles at one point but maybe not. I know a couple of the other guys were already in relationships but there’s more stories to tell. The only girl on the team, Allie, is a hoot.

Against the Current is well written and flows well. It’s told from a first person POV alternating between Miles or Jakes head but it’s not difficult to tell who’s in the drivers seat. Each chapter has a POV heading. I did notice a couple of places where the author switched POV mid-chapter for a line or two but it wasn’t enough to pull me out of the story completely. Minor issue.

This is a feel good story for the most part. It’s long enough to not feel rushed but short enough to be read in a couple of hours. Overall, I’d call it satisfying and from an author I’d read again.

Romance and mystery, justice and happy endings, suspense and surprises, all are components that make Ghostly Liaison great entertainment and a book worth recommending.

This is a ghost story with heart. It’s about a brother’s love for his sister, a woman trying to come to terms with why she’s even alive and her place in life, her relationship with her parents and the love of a dog that is truly unconditional. There is so much beauty and feeling woven into all the characters it seemed jarring to find a killer stalking some of the characters.

I liked Rob and Bridget. I enjoyed how the author told the story from both their perspectives but in such a way I didn’t feel like it was head hopping. It’s mostly told from the heroine’s point of view because most of the action revolved around her. She had to reconcile the fact that she could see ghosts, that she was falling in love, and she somehow had to eventually accept that she deserved love. I also appreciated how Ms. McKitrick wrote Rob. He’s acted like a real man would. I could relate to him because he wasn’t some alpha macho over the top hero with crazy skills. He was a man who took chances on love, was loyal, earnest and believed the best in people. Rob was also a person who felt emotions deeply and sometimes, he let them rip. His doing so made me respect his character all the more. He was approachable and eventually, believed in Bridget, all of her. There’s nothing more romantic than a man who loves a woman for who she is, not what she believes others expect her to be.

For most of the book, the external and internal conflicts work. The only thing that grew to be a tad repetitive was Bridget’s insistence that Rob would be better off without her; that her scars were insurmountable obstacles to any kind of relationship, with anyone, and she didn’t deserve the attention of the hero. As a conflict, based on her background, it works to a major degree but there is such a thing as overkill and I think for some readers it might have reached that; for others it might teeter on the line of their tolerance level. Rest assured she gets beyond it, but it takes some serious drama and suspense from the villain to catapult her to clearly seeing what is truly important in life. It becomes crystal.

Barnaby is a wonderful touch for a supporting character and I really believe his role was pivotal in this novel. I liked Kate and the cute interaction between the next door neighbors. There were so many elements that gave this story a depth of emotion that it engaged me all the way through.

Ghostly Liaison is a wonderful blend of romance and crime-solving mystery that’s easy to recommend to readers. I really enjoyed myself even when I almost came off my chair at the part with the reptile. Yeah, that was writing at its best.

Well-meaning friends are determined to intercede and resort to inept high jinks to reunite the estranged couple while a wicked ex-girlfriend plays dirty to keep the couple apart.

A bit of misunderstanding, a bit of living in a moment, with a bit of meddling friends and there is a perfect combination for a story.

Cinderella Busted started with a huge misunderstanding, because Lily Foster wants to be attractive to somebody. She wanted to be liked and enjoy herself for a bit. This does not mean that she is a bad person. On the contrary, she is sweet and nice. She just wanted to be loved by somebody exciting, amusing and nice.

This is really amazing story that I enjoyed from the second third of the book until the end. Yes, I said second third, because in the first third the story is focused on the relationship between Lily and Rhett Buchanan. But from the moment Lily is busted things get interesting. The pace become faster and things starts rolling. Meddling friends scheme to bring couple together, jealous ex-girlfriend to pull them apart. And just when things start to look good another crazy twist happens.

This is well written story with so many twists and turns. Characters might be a bit stereotypical, just like they stepped out the fairytale. There is virginal heroine who is purely good, and then there is ex-girlfriend who is purely evil. And there is a hero. Usually the prince in the fairytales is pale character but here hero is very complex and his reasons for such a strong reaction to heroine “covering of truth” are grounded and understandable. Rhett has been played and his hart was broke so he do not trust women easily

Although there is no missing shoe, I enjoyed this fairytale retelling. So if you looking for a fun and fast paced read you cannot go wrong with this one.

Welcome To Sin City and The Fall Of The Four Horsemen. What an awesome hook for the series and this fantastic story. I was completely pulled into the drama and truly enjoyed everything, the romance, the excitement and suspense that had me gripped right up until the end.

This book was Judge and Charli’s story. The main couple connected easily but with a little bit of drama since Charli had been stealing from the casino that Judge and his horsemen brothers owned. Charli was no stranger to the paranormal world so it was no stretch to her when Judge declared that they were mates. However, she promptly stole his car and ran away because she needed to protect her little sister and keep her troubles away from Judge and his people. Of course, the determined alpha male tracked her down and from there the reunion was seamless but not without a fair bit of conflict. There was some tension with one of his brothers and danger from Charli’s past, and even then the suspense wasn’t quite over yet.

Mated To War is actually the third book in this series but it was my first adventure with the four horsemen as they find their mates. Even so I had no trouble catching up and that was because the author did an incredible job with creating the world. My introduction to everyone was subtle and on spot with the steady flow of the series. I got to know the characters and then their history which is the best way and the one I’m most comfortable with reading.

This book was a great read. The characters were wonderful and the writing style was excellent. Of course, the suspenseful plot was the main reason that I liked the story so much. Also, the story had a intriguing set up for the next book in the series with Chaos and I have to say that I am really looking forward to reading that one. So all in all, Mated To War was a winner with this happy reader !
