A series of ten short stories featuring the Fairy Folk of Bracken Lea Wood: a tale of Nature Spirits for humans of all ages.

Welcome to the magic world of GLODWYN the Gnome. His friends include other gnomes, flower fairies, a Twisted Tree, Astrid the Fairy Queen, and the birds and animals who also live in the wood.

Glodwyn the gnome is a bit of a rebel. He lives and works in the ancient woodland. He is unusual amongst the Fairy Folk in enjoying the company of humans. His good-natured interest in their world seen through the eyes of his unknowing “friend”, Walter the Stacker Truck Driver at the local factory, leads him to interfere in their affairs, with interesting results both for the Fairy Folk and humans. With his help, the Fairy Folk rescue a little boy from drowning, save the life of an injured cat and later that of a confused old lady who collapses in the Wood.

The Fairy Folk raise the alarm when a baby’s mother is taken ill, and later prevent disaster at the baby’s Christening, when a bad fairy threatens the child’s happiness. They help a Leprechaun find his way home, and get a lost engagement ring back to its owner. Both unwitting humans and Fairy Folk working together to save nearby woodland from development. From arranging a litter-pick in the woods to finding a new wand for the Fairy Queen, it is a busy life for the Fairy Folk.

Most people don’t notice magic even if it’s happening right under their noses. Are you one of them?

It’s difficult to discuss just one story because they’re all so closely connected to each other, but one of the most interesting ones in The Magic World of Bracken Lea is “The Unicorn and the Wand.” In it Glodwyn the Gnome and Celandine (a Flower Fairy) search for a unicorn so they can replace something that their queen has lost. The witty dialogue and clever ending made me want to read it again.

Speaking of Celandine, she was my favorite character in this collection. Her sweet, kind personality meshed nicely with Glodwyn’s tendency to act before he thinks. It was especially interesting to see the difference between how each of them reacts to trouble in their woodland home.

It took me a while to figure out the most appropriate age recommendation for this book, and it is a flexible one. I was a little surprised by how often the human characters find themselves in danger in these woods. While the fairies and other creatures are helpful, some of the scenarios might be a little scary for the preschoolers that would otherwise be the perfect age for this collection.

The page count includes illustrations as well as the text. The drawings themselves are simple, rustic, and beautiful. I often found myself paying just as much attention to them as I did to the tales themselves because they so accurately captured what was going on in the plot.

Read these tales in order until you’re familiar with its cast of characters. The first one introduces the reader to Bracken Lea, and the rest regularly revisit faeries and other creatures that originally popped up earlier on in this collection.

Discovering The Magic World of Bracken Lea was a treat. This is a fun choice for anyone looking for something magical to add to story time.

Compass Girls, Book 3

Too much love and loss taught Jade Compton to protect her heart and her sanity by steering clear of all that romance nonsense. She’s doing just fine, working two jobs, hanging out with her cousins and her best friend, Liam.

But when a combination of unbearable heat wave and a case of the boredom blues knock her down, she longs to do something spontaneous…maybe even a little bit reckless.

Liam Harrison met Jade when she was sixteen—in the local cemetery. If he’s learned anything after eight years of friendship, it’s that Jade has a wild streak a mile wide. And while he doesn’t want to tame the adventurous woman, he wouldn’t mind showing her a few sexy ways to channel some of her impulsiveness. With him. In the bedroom.

When he proposes a sexy, no-strings-attached summer fling, Jade jumps at the chance to spice things up and indulge some pretty kinky fantasies. Then summer ends…and Jade comes to the uncomfortable realization that there’s only one place she’s comfortable in her own skin—Liam’s arms.

Summer Fling is the latest in the Compass Girls series from Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon. I love the world these ladies built, and am enjoying the antics and lives of this second generation of Compton Pass residents. This world is filled with passion, emotion and lots of fun as well. The heat level in this is high, and the characters are well defined and extremely likable. I like this world, and the people in it, and look forward to more in the future.

Summer is coming to Compton Pass, and for Jade Compton, it looks like more of the same old thing. Jade is restless, looking for something to fill her days and nights, something other than the usual work and family stuff. The daughter of Compton Pass’ sheriff has always lived life full out, looking for the next big challenge. Her cousin will be getting married in a few months, and Jade needs something to occupy her in a new and different way. Liam Harrison has been Jade’s friend for eight years, ever since the night they met by chance at the local cemetery the night of Jade’s sixteenth birthday. Over the years, he has gone from casual friend to someone he cares for a lot. When she expresses her feelings about the summer ahead, Liam surprises her with a challenge of sorts: have a summer fling with him. He hopes that, by the end of summer, he will be able to convince her to take a chance on a future with him, not just a short fling. Can Liam break through Jade’s defenses and show her that she deserves to be happy? Can Jade believe in happy ever after for herself? Will these two get past their pasts and find a future together?

Jade Compton is a willful and determined woman. She has a restless energy, and needs to be busy and active with new challenges. She has always felt that she needs to live twice as hard to experience life for her twin, her brother George, who died at birth. She doesn’t see herself as a desirable woman, and can’t picture a future for herself in a relationship with anyone. When Liam makes his challenge, she isn’t sure what he hopes to accomplish, but she is always willing to try new challenges. I enjoyed watching as Jade slowly came to the realization that Liam actually loves her, and that she actually feels the same for him. I liked the strength she showed in coping with her beloved grandmother’s encroaching problems due to Alzheimer’s disease, and loved the interaction with all of her Compton cousins.

Liam Harrison is strong and loyal, and handsome and sexy as well. He has stood by as Jade has been reckless and daring, and has grown to love her for who she is. He has grown from the young man mourning his lost fiancée to a dependable friend who has matured into the considerate man who realizes, before Jade does, exactly what she really needs from him at this point in her life. I like that he doesn’t try to change her, and wants her just as she is, faults and attitude included. I liked watching as he slowly worked past all of Jade’s defenses, and made a place in her heart.

This is a sexy and hot romance, with challenges for both of these characters. This one made me laugh, made me sigh, and at times it made me cry. There are some really hot scenes, and for those, I recommend air conditioning and ice water to help cool down. I found this to be a delightfully sexy addition to the Compass Girls series, and recommend it to anyone looking for lots of heat and passion.

She bleeds sexuality. Michael doesn’t know her name. He’s never seen her before, and she only appears in his dreams. But she won’t leave, and even though he isn’t sure if she’s a sign of luck or a dark omen, he can’t seem to let her go.

Michael has been dreaming of a woman he’s never met before. He knows she can’t be real, but with each morning the dreams linger, always leaving him with the same question—just who is this person? And why can’t he stop thinking about her? She’s a sexual whirlwind of every pent-up desire and fantasy he’s ever had, and she doesn’t seem to be disappearing any time soon.

Then there’s Lisa, a woman who isn’t imagined, who doesn’t disappear in the daylight and who just might be the one. But is it cheating to be with someone while thinking of another? What if the line between night and day blur? Michael’s about to find out his nocturnal visits may have some very real—and deadly—consequences.

By night Michael has had visits by a sexual being that seems all too real. By day he’s intrigued by a green eyed co-worker. Will Michael’s fantasy girl win or will it be the lady of reality?

The novel opens with Michael having phone sex with an unknown individual. I couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps later in the novel the person would be revealed.

One of the bright points of this short story is that the author does a good job of setting the scene. In the beginning of the novel I was enjoying the author’s writing style and the flow of words. The description of the rain clouds and the description of the bedroom scenes had the making of a four star rating.

I was curious as to why the dream lady was appearing in Michael’s dreams. She introduced herself as Melissa. Michael compared women he knew to the fictitious Melissa. Being with Melissa felt right despite the strangeness of it all. This premise drew me in.

Then I noticed an odd pattern. The author introduced characters without creating a visual or any type of connection to the story. It’s like they were added to the story but really didn’t have any importance, just someone for the main character to converse with.

Lisa wasn’t one of those random characters. Instead, she makes up the third corner of this curious triangle. Lisa is a co-worker who Michael found himself attracted to. They go out on a first date and at the end of the first date Lisa stated she did not think they should move so fast after only the first day. That was fine but then on the second date they start a sexual relationship. This causes a conflict with Michael because he now feels guilty about the two relationships…Melissa the lady that visits him in his dreams and now Lisa the lady he is drawn to in reality.

The relationship between Michael and Lisa was quick. It’s clear that Michael is attracted to Lisa but their relationship was shallow beyond the attraction. I did not get a fuzzy romantic love feeling I like to read in a romance. Michael was acting more on physical desire and the relationship did not develop past the sex. Lisa makes Michael happy, though I’m not sure how since the author didn’t go that deep into the relationship.

The idea behind the plot was unique. A dream lady versus choosing a lady of flesh and blood. The execution lacked depth. I kept waiting for my questions to be answered. At the closing of the novel the author did add a brief paranormal twist that seem kind of rushed and lacked detail. Without giving specifics, I’ll say the ending left me puzzled but it might work for another reader.

This short had some issues but the author had a writing style that appealed to me and kept me reading. It was a quick and interesting read. Readers who enjoy a good puzzle in their books should check this out and see if you can fit the pieces together.

Condemned by her people, she found a new destiny among the folk of the undying high lord, Milo Morai…

She rode into legend…

Shunned by her own folk as a creature of Evil, Bettylou Hanson found an instant welcome among the people of the Horseclans. Young, healthy, intelligent, and gifted with powerful mindspeak potential, she was everything Milo Morai’s people looked for in a clan member.
Also, men with ED cannot have buy levitra look what i found medicine containing nitrate since it is very dangerous for health. For the frightened girl whom Tim Krooguh had rescued from certain death was destined to become a living legend among the Kindred, a fighter whose courage would rouse the clans against a foul and dangerous foe…

This story is set in a time after the great disasters in cities. Most folks are back to traveling the prairies just like the Indians did years before. Many of the communities have strange religious beliefs and enforce them with iron fists. Bettylou Hanson lives in one of those communities.

Mundania Press is reissuing the Horseclans series (I’m glad!) that was written in the late 1970’s and into the 1980’s. I noticed two things reading this book: The stories reminded me of the Clan of the Cave Bears series; and, the sexual harassment in the communities reminded me of the cases we’re seeing now in the armed services. As much as things change, they really don’t.

I have one thing I’d have suggested to Mr. Adams. Bettylou is just not a name I’d expect to see in this time period. All the men have unusual names; why not do that for his strong female character? It doesn’t affect the story telling, just seemed incongruous to me.

The Elder in the community Bettylou grew up in had the ultimate right to sleep with all the young women as they came of age. If they had the misfortune to get pregnant, they were beaten, made to do the worst jobs and had their hair cut off and their heads are died a brilliant color. They live there until the baby arrives, then the sex of the baby determines if it is added to the community (male) or thrown out (female) with its mother. Nice folks, aren’t they?

In her case, another tribe attacks them and takes her as a hostage. She’s treated with suspicion until they learn about her story and then she’s accepted into the group. I enjoyed watching her grow up and become the warrior woman she turned into. She was married, had more children, watched her husband and children die, and just kept fighting.

The story is fascinating and interesting. Mr. Adams knew how to grab your attention and keep it. I also liked his ending. It’s a bit magical and just the right touch for dear Bettylou.  Reading about strong women characters always makes me happy. I’d suggest you give this series a try.

Love is ever near. But trouble is never far.

Nantucket Island is haunted, but only sixteen-year-old Jade Irving knows it. Ignoring the disturbing spirits isn’t an option, because one dwells in the enormous historic home she shares with her newly blended family. Jade is finding it more and more difficult to explain away Lacey’s ghostly, anguished tantrums, especially with Charlie, her gorgeous, almost step-brother, living right across the hall.

When a power-hungry ghost hunter tracks down Jade and blackmails her, Jade’s secret teeters on the edge of exposure, and her entire future hangs in the balance. If anyone finds out Jade can talk to ghosts, her life will be forever changed.

Can she save herself, free Lacey, and hang on to her tenuous connection with Charlie? Or will everything she ever wanted slip through her fingers?

Some gifts come with strings attached to them. What’s worse is that Jade couldn’t reject her gift or know ahead of time just how disruptive it would be in her otherwise ordinary life.

Jade is an intelligent protagonist who has never quite managed to get used to seeing the dead. While she can be snarky and a bit too serious at times, I liked her sharp-tongued approach to the things that she knows she can’t change. Her nonchalant approach to her own sexuality was also refreshing. She’s not embarrassed by the idea of preparing for safer sex ahead of time, but neither does this part of her life take up a great deal of her time.

It would have been helpful to know more about the past and personality of a secondary character who becomes interested in Jade’s life. Some of his actions come across as inappropriate given that he’s an adult stranger who follows a teenage girl around. From what I understand, this book is the beginning of a new series. I hope that more answers are given about his behaviour in the sequel.

Not every ghost is cute and cuddly. Encountering violent, unpredictable spirits without ever being able to opt out of the experience isn’t exactly what I’d consider to be a good time. Lacey’s backstory was particularly frightening. What I liked most about it was how slowly it was revealed. Some of the other paranormal scenes are pretty intense, though, so for this reason I strongly recommend sticking with the age recommendation.

The romantic elements were out of place in an otherwise dark plot. The characters involved in it meet under an odd set of circumstances to say the least. While they aren’t doing anything illegal, their actions do cross certain social boundaries in ways that I found disturbing. I never quite understood why this particular subplot was included, but this tale would have earned a much higher rating without it.

I didn’t know much about Nantucket before reading this book, but it’s an intriguing setting for a ghost story. There’s a big difference between how certain residents have projected themselves in public and what’s really going on behind closed doors. Everyone carries a few secrets around with them. It’s how they react when they thinks those secrets are about to be revealed that makes Jade’s journey such an interesting one.

Ever Near Book 1: Secret Affinity has piqued my curiosity. This is a good choice for anyone who thinks that paranormal activity isn’t necessarily something anyone in their right mind would seek out.

His honorable quest has made him a thief. To catch a thief, she must track down the dragon she loves.

Can she fulfill her mission without breaking her heart?

Caught is B. J. McCall’s most recent visit to the Dragonfire world, where passions burn hot and often. I like this world and always like visiting with the folk who inhabit it. The characters are always well crafted and charismatic, and this one is no exception. I like this world because Ms. McCall always has strong women in positions of power, but who can also be feminine and passionate with the right person.

The Andrak clan has a quest to fulfill; find and recover the head of the sacred dragon statue that was stolen centuries before. That duty has now fallen on the shoulders of Dragon Warrior Trynt Andrak, after the death of his uncle. As Trynt prepares to resign his position to take on the quest, Adatha Krytt is getting ready to join the Dragon Warriors. Adatha knows Trynt is her mate, and she is devastated when he tells her he is leaving. Adatha is determined to show Trynt how she feels before he is out of her life, and spends one passionate last night with him in their secret spot. A year later, Adatha is a full member of the Dragon Warriors, and is given a confidential assignment: catch the dragon that broke into a wealthy citizen’s home and stole his prized possession…the golden head of a dragon statue. In the surveillance footage, Adatha recognizes Trynt as the thief, and her heart is broken as she sees him in the embrace of a young and beautiful woman. She is determined to bring Trynt in to face justice, and then get on with her life, with or without her mate. Can Trynt prove he still loves her, despite what she saw on the surveillance footage? Will Adatha stand by her dragon, and wait for him? Will these two get their happy ending?

Adatha Krytt is a strong and determined female. She knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to reach for her dreams and make them real. She knows that Trynt is her mate, and she decides that, if one night is all she can get, it will be the best it can be. I like her spirit and determination, and her ability to do what has to be done regardless of what she wants. I also like her sense of loyalty, and the way she was willing to stand by him. And that she was able to fulfill her duty as a Dragon Warrior and complete the mission to bring Trynt in, despite the consequences to her, personally.

Trynt Andrak is a proud and strong Dragon Warrior, but knows he must assume the quest of his clan to find the dragon head that was stolen so long ago as a matter of honor. Although he knows that Adatha is the one for him, he is willing to let her go to be all she can be while he follows the path before him. He is strong and handsome, and has a sense of honor that cannot be denied. I liked that, even while he was undercover, he was not willing to take advantage of the young woman whose attraction to him let him gain entrance to the mansion where his ultimate prize was located. I also liked that he was ready to accept whatever punishment was deemed appropriate in answer for his actions.

This is a fast paced story, with action and danger as well as romance and passion. I like the characters, and look forward to more from this author in this world. I recommend this for all those who like happy endings and lots of hot dragon passion.

But when she moves into a dilapidated brownstone on the Upper West Side, she meets twelve-year-old Ariel and her widowed father Gabriel, a man with his hands full trying to raise two daughters on his own. Soon, a promise made to her sisters forces Portia back into a world of magical food and swirling emotions, where she must confront everything she has been running from. What seems so simple on the surface is anything but when long-held secrets are revealed, rivalries exposed, and the promise of new love stirs to life like chocolate mixing with cream. The Glass Kitchen is a delicious novel, a tempestuous story of a woman washed up on the shores of Manhattan who discovers that a kitchen—like an island—can be a refuge, if only she has the courage to give in to the pull of love, the power of forgiveness, and accept the complications of what it means to be family.

What do you do if your marriage is over and all you have left is a handful of cookbooks and a garden apartment in New York City willed to you by an aunt? If you’re Portia, the main character in this story, you take those books and head to the Big Apple with dreams of starting anew.

I enjoyed the character of Portia because she was strong, even when things weren’t going the way she’d planned. Gabriel, her neighbor was a complex character. I think the author wanted him to come across as brooding and someone who stands in the way of Portia getting what she wants, but for me, the word hero sprang to mind as soon as Portia meets him. I liked him a lot, and I won’t give away some of the plot, but my instincts were right about him.

And then there’s Ariel, Gabriel’s twelve year old daughter who is the other point of view character in this story. While I know that she’d been through a lot with losing her mother and moving to NYC and hence had to grow up fast, sometimes I found her dialogue and outlook a little advanced for her age, but overall she was a fun character who sometimes was the driving force of the story.

There’s also some humor, especially when Portia takes a job as a hamburger. The pacing was perfect and the reference to food makes your mouth water. There are even some recipes to try as well.

The secondary characters, including Portia’s two sisters are also well-rounded and add just the right mix. If you enjoy stories about healing and second chances, then The Glass Kitchen should probably be added to your summer reading list.

City girl. Nurse. Looking for a fresh start. And falling in lust.

Sheriff Wyatt Winston plans on buying the Double R ranch from the elderly owners. But when the land owner’s wayward niece comes to town looking for a fresh start, Wyatt sees a potential obstacle in the way of his plans. That obstacle just so happens to be in the form of a sexy, red-headed city girl and Wyatt is suddenly finding it difficult to keep his mind on the task at hand.

Baylor Stivers doesn’t know why the tough as nails cowboy is always angry at her and she certainly doesn’t need anymore drama now that she’s escaped to the calm, picturesque Kentucky horse country. But this young nurse can’t keep her eyes off his irresistible hard body, and when a dead body shows up at the ranch, the Sheriff is exactly who she wants by her side and in her bed.

Wyatt Winston doesn’t care for city girls, but when Baylor Stivers comes to stay with her aunt and uncle on the Double R ranch he’s concerned the woman could be the downfall of his plans. Wyatt is an ex-bull rider and now the sheriff, and he has an iron-clad idea for his future, one that involves buying the Double R ranch from Baylor’s aunt and uncle. But Baylor is sweet and easy-going, not to mention sexy, and Wyatt doesn’t know what to make of her. Then a ranch-hand is murdered, and suddenly what Wyatt thought was a simple case of petty thievery becomes a lot more dangerous.

I really enjoyed the initial tension between Wyatt and Baylor. Even though there’s sparks and chemistry from the moment they meet, neither rush into the other’s arms. Wyatt is cautious and wary of Baylor’s connections to the landowners, and Baylor is a bit put off by Wyatt’s keeping her at arms length. I felt this allowed the two of them time to get to know each other and build more than just a physical foundation for their relationship. I also like how the plot wasn’t unraveled immediately. We don’t immediately learn what drove Baylor to stay with her Aunt and Uncle and flee Atlanta and her job, nor do we know the full scope of the plan Wyatt has until well into the story. This kept me eagerly turning the pages and interested in not just the characters and their relationship, but also the larger picture at hand.

I did feel that Lola—another worker at the ranch—was a bit of a cliché, the “other woman” who plays hard-to-get but suddenly turns jealous and hateful at a rival woman coming in. While this did add to the tension and plot, there were a few points where I felt a more subtle hand at the writing could have made this really shine. I was very pleasantly surprised by the plot of a killer running loose and felt the conflict surrounding this was well handled. While it does take second place to Wyatt and Baylor and their growing romance, I do love some mystery and thriller aspects thrown in to strengthen the plot.

All up I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I found the pacing perfect, the characters interesting and the plot was well woven. This book has all the elements of a keeper for me. I’ll definitely be looking into more books written by Ms Nelson.

After one long, hot night of loving, Kaitlyn discovers everything is not what it seems. She’s not sure if Derek has made a fool of her or if this debt of honor could be something more.

When debts are repaid in sexual favors things can sure get complicated!

Derek Montague is owed a favor by a young man who works on his ranch. The thing is this young guy has a sister, Kaitlin Jacobs, who Derek has had the serious hots for over the last few years. But Kaitlin is standoffish, abrupt and not interested in him at all – or is she?

So when Kaitlin comes in to see him and offers to repay the debt Derek gets cheeky. He gives her the option of making the payment by spending a night with him! Much to his surprise Kaitlin agrees.

Wow, what a great premise for a story. I really enjoyed Debt of Honor. It romps along at a great pace, has sexy, real characters and loads of the juicy stuff. It flicks between both points of view so you get to see what both Derek and Kaitlin are thinking.

Kaitlin is fiery and also one hell of a determined woman who clearly loves her brother – well it’s his debt! She’s also not afraid of Derek and his alpha ways. She has sex with him, lots of sex, but more than that it does actually mean something – she’s not immune to Derek’s cowboy charm and dashing good looks.

If you’re looking for a half hour read that will steam up your e-reader you could do much worse than Debt of Honor. And if sexy cowboys, raunchy bedroom/shower scenes and happy ever afters are your thing, then you will likely thoroughly enjoy yourself in the pages of this book.

Sometimes doing a favor can change your life forever…

Never one to rate her curves, Sally thinks her glamorous sister has lost the plot. Stand in for her at a photo shoot with the most sought after bondage photographer ever? She’ll be laughed out of the studio, or arrested, or both. However, the temptation to actually meet the man she’s been secretly lusting after for months proves too hard to resist.

Junsako cannot believe his eyes when Sally turns up. It’s been a long time since the Dom in him felt such an instant pull to anyone. All those curves will look beautiful in Shibari suspension, and Sally proves to be a born submissive. If only she would let go of her body issues and see the beautiful woman he sees through his lens.

Only one thing to do—convince her—with as much kinky sex as possible.

The blurb for Through the Dom’s Lens reads “Sometimes doing a favor can change your life forever…” and though I’m usually skeptical about this type of thing, the truth is that sometimes it can happen. That’s the case with Sally when she stands in for her sister at a modeling shoot. Though she doesn’t consider herself model material, Sally tries anyway because she really wants to meet the famous photographer, Junsako.

Contemporary and with characters that are realistically human for the most part, the beauty of Through the Dom’s Lens is that it is relatable.

Sally is an ordinary woman with curves and therefore, thinks herself as less than perfect. This is something I could easily relate with as today’s media only sells products with thin models that have flat stomachs and perfectly tones legs. Sally is not like this. She’s full of insecurities and fears, but Junsako loves her just the same and helps her see that she’s beautiful the way she is.

Junsako, on the other hand, is–allow me a dreamy sigh here–perfect. He’s sweet when he needs to be and at the same time, dominant. Plus, he’s hot, intelligent, successful, talented…

The chemistry between them is from the beginning off the charts. However, one thing I didn’t like about the novel, was that after a night of passion, Sally remembers Akiro (Junsako’s assistant and previous sub). I found it out of place for her to suddenly remember the other woman so late in the story, even if the author resolves the issue more or less nicely.

Regardless of this, Through the Dom’s Lens is a must read. Ms. O’Connor paints not only sizzling sex scenes but more. Through her words she made me see the same thing Junsako saw in Sally and in a way in me as I immersed myself in the story and became her, and I can assure you, it was truly beautiful.
