Branded a witch and exiled after a dishonorable display at the king’s annual tournament, quiet Grace Hilren is forced to uproot her life of luxury as a lord’s daughter and move to the slums of the port city, Glenbard. But Grace carries a secret. Though trained to be a fine lady, she also learned to handle a sword and has made it her mission to eradicate evil and injustice where she finds it. Even in exile, Grace continues her work under the given name of Death Dealer. Her nightly deeds bring her to the notice of the self-proclaimed King of Thieves, Marcus. When the king’s power is threatened by a rival named Mac, the Death Dealer unwittingly becomes a pawn in the struggle between thieves for control of the lower city. The game becomes dangerous as Grace realizes she may not be able to best this usurper.

A foolish mistake costs Grace everything.

Grace is a beautiful young woman, but she chafes at the role women are expected to play in her world. Even though Grace conforms outwardly to most of society’s expectations, she relishes slipping into the role of the Death Dealer at night. Grace balances the demands of her daily and nightly activities very well. Unfortunately, a lapse in judgment has consequences that will change her life forever. Can Grace adapt to her new lot in life, or will she meet an ugly fate on the streets of Glenbard?

Grace is certainly an interesting heroine. She is smart, courageous, and fiercely determined to accomplish any task she sets her mind to. Despite her outward bravado, Grace is also a little naïve concerning love, life, and death. I don’t view her naivety as a flaw, rather it softens her personality a little and makes her a much more believable character given her age and upbringing.

I also really like Grace’s sense of ethics. Her nightly escapades as the Death Dealer often put her in the position of having to make some difficult choices. She is even forced to take a life. Even though she kills a man while saving the lives of others, the death weighs heavily on Grace. I think this is very realistic. Too often I’ve read books that treat death in a cavalier manner. I’m pleased that Ms. Roman treats death with the seriousness it deserves.

The ending of Fallen Grace is certainly satisfying, but leaves plenty of wiggle room for future stories. I’m very curious about what happens to Grace next. Does she continue to live in Glenbard? Is she ever accepted back into the ranks of the nobles? Will her budding relationship with Jack blossom into true love? I certainly hope Ms. Roman has a sequel planned to satisfy my curiosity.

Reading Fallen Grace was a pleasure. Grace is a wonderful, realistic character, and I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along on her adventures. Anyone looking for a fantasy laced with action and a touch of romance would do well to pick up a copy of Fallen Grace today.

Love can find you in the most unlikely of places…

When her friends order her to take a vacation, celebrity chef Jilly O’Hara is skeptical. She may be overwhelmed by her sudden success, but a trip to the mountains is not her idea of fun. Especially when a snowstorm forces her to fill in for an absentee bride in a lavish television wedding taking place at the resort. But then the ruggedly handsome make-believe groom arrives…. Walker Hale has kept to himself since his return from active duty-but the next thing he knows, he’s reluctantly playing along with the wedding charade.

Even this jaded loner isn’t immune to Jilly’s quirky charm…or her beauty. But Jilly has to return home to Summer Island, leaving Walker to decide if the feelings between them were something more than pretend.

Of course the make believe idea becomes a fact, this is a romance book! It’s the journey that makes reading The Accidental Bride such a special treat because of the contribution of Winslow, the service dog. That puppy isn’t a prop but a bona fide heroic character that was endearing and entertaining throughout the entire novel. He’s one of the main reasons why this is more than just a good read, it’s a wonderful read.

Jilly is a stubborn character and actually acts like a heroine. She comes to the rescue. I liked her opinion about snack food, her initial opinion about knitting because I share it, and I liked that she was a person who, despite a painful and sometimes lonely upbringing, was able to stay focused on her dreams and worked hard to make them a reality. I liked the conflict the author presented – how to find a new dream when the old one is taken away by something out of your control. I enjoyed watching her take the baby steps, then the leaps and bounds as she accepted the possibilities of a new future.

The fact that the future might include Walker, the hero, was delicious torment. He’s a hero in the truest meaning of the word but he’s been injured. Add in dysfunctional family drama and his own conflict coupled with Jilly’s makes for interesting reading. The fireworks are there but so are the tender, beautiful and romantic scenes as the hero’s own actions lay the groundwork for falling in love. Of course, his bond with Winslow is impressive and I appreciated how Ms. Skye paid attention to even the little details when it came to Walker’s and Winslow’s relationship.

The dialogue between Jilly and Walker was entertaining, it flowed well and I enjoyed it. I liked the most of the secondary characters because they provided a nice flavor to the community in the book. I wasn’t crazy about Walker’s sister or the suddenness with which she appeared – too perfect a set up – but it did the job in getting the hero where he needed to be. I’m also unsure about the effect of the hero’s dad. As far as I’m concerned, the author did not do her hero any favors by putting him in the crosshairs of his father – the man is a tyrant. I hope some future story has that man mellowing or someone puts him in his place. Walker is a man to be respected, not manipulated. The author did her job well because I totally, completely, liked Walker.

There is humor, heart and a sweetness to the way this story was written that made me feel good. I liked the sensual build up and the concentration on their blossoming relationship. When they finally culminate their simmering passions it’s with words of restraint, beauty and respect to the romance. Thumbs up in my book.

The Accidental Bride has everything I’ve come to love from the talented Ms. Skye. Of course that means food references too. She has her heroines creating, eating or enjoying the most amazing foods in her novels and this one is no exception. I like it when the author includes books for reference or sites to visit. It makes her stories more real because in that way, a reader can experience some of the same yummy excitement as the characters. Personally, I’d rather just eat it verses make it, but you get the idea. I really enjoyed myself reading this latest romance from Ms. Skye and it’s a definite recommend.

This was another great book in The Skulls series. As a fanatical reader of the series, I think this one was the most emotional story and my favorite one yet.

This book picks up right where the last one left off, with Killer finding out that Kelsey is married. That was a huge set back for him. He doesn’t take it very well, and makes a couple of big mistakes. Yes, I will just say it. He was an jerk. Now, I haven’t been a big fan of Kelsey so far. She never stood out as a vital character like the other ladies in this series. Then as this story went on I found out more about her and I could see why she had such a low opinion of herself. It’s a bad situation with everybody coming down hard on Kelsey. Things go sideways really quickly.

I felt that this was the most intense story in the series. Killer and Kelsey had so much to overcome. The complication of a husband who doesn’t want to let go played a big part, but so did past insecurities for the both of them. Then there was the really great part where Killer puts everything on the line for the woman he loves. Lastly, there was the bonds of brotherhood that were put to the test.

This one was well written and easy to read. It captivated me from the start. To me, it was about learning to forgive and fighting for what you want. It was passionate with plenty of intense scenes. What’s not to love ? A great story, sexy bikers, and scorching hot love scenes. What can I say ? It worked for me.

Will has a temper as wild as the bear he holds inside. Normally he’s an easy-going, caring guy, but if someone crosses him, he uses his claws and shifter strength to set them straight. His temper ruined his chance at the career he wanted, but now he’s working at Wild R Farm, enjoying the camaraderie and longing for more with one special man.

But the main thing you will need whichever viagra pfizer online route you choose is backlinks. No one at the farm knows much about Ryan. He’s done time in prison and he carries scars that tell of something horrible in his past. When he gifts Will with one of his rare smiles, Will decides to do whatever it takes to get him to smile more often. Will is used to being a protector, and even when he learns Ryan’s dark secrets, he refuses to turn away. What he doesn’t realize is that he needs Ryan’s quiet strength as much as Ryan needs someone to show they care. Ryan’s past threatens to send him running, but Will and the rest of the crew of Wild R prove that no matter the danger, they take care of their own.

I adore bear shifter stories, and Ms. Violet gave me a great one.  Will was both volatile like a bear but had a cuddly teddy bear side too, especially when it came to his mate.

Will’s temper has ruined a lot of things for him, but he is determined to not let his temper ruin the relationship that is forming with Ryan. I really liked Will because even though he’s a dangerous and temperamental bear shifter, he’s a sweet man who is kind to both animals and Ryan.

Ryan definitely needs Will’s kindness, because Ryan has had a hard life. He’s overcome some serious abuse, and watching him blossom and finally heal from that abuse under the care and love of Will adds a strong element of trust and realism to the story. Ryan was a great character who loves those around him and carries a lot of guilt because of his past, I enjoyed that he knows he wants Will and is willing to fight for him, and to go for what he wants.

I was a bit confused with parts of the story because a lot of past characters pop up, this is the fifth book in the series, and I haven’t read the others. While I was able to enjoy the story, I did feel like I missed a lot because I didn’t know all the characters and their back stories, but they were introduced like I should know them.

I did enjoy the scenes on the ranch with the horses, I enjoyed that there were lots of different types of shifters and I really enjoyed the scenes between Will and Ryan. I would definitely recommend this for fans of bear shifters, but I do think at least the book before may be essential to enjoying this story fully.

She’s the Queen of his soul.

Heart’s Desire, Book 3

The time has come for Gareth Beckett to take his place as the king of the wizards. There’s only one problem. The woman who stole his heart, the one he wants as his queen, is missing. He casts the Beckett mate spell, hoping with everything in him that it will call his Gen home.

She’s sworn to hunt down her brothers and end their evil before it can harm the man she loves, but a vision from her Goddess sends her back to Gareth.

Gareth is not about to allow Gen to leave his sight for a second time. But being the king isn’t quite what it’s cracked up to be. Not everyone is thrilled to have a warlock as the queen-consort. Between scheming courtiers, the threat of the Godwin brothers and Gen’s insistence that she be allowed to continue her work as one of Hecate’s Own, Gareth is about to lose his mind.

When the king decides to put an end to the threat against his mate, the rest of the magical world will sit up and take notice.

How I’ve waited for this story! It starts with a prequel that takes us back to events in the first book, and we experience it from Gen’s point of view with a bit of Gareth’s. I really enjoyed seeing that. It re-hooked me into the beautiful plot that Ms. Bell has crafted with intricate detail. That detail is so obvious because I was able to see how little things from before lead to so much more, and how intertwined this series is. She gives enough back story that I think it could be read as a stand-alone but I truly believe that the main story arc is best enjoyed while reading the whole series.

Gareth is lonely and ready for a mate, he knows that mate is Gen, but Gen has disappeared while she hunts down her evil brothers. I loved that Gareth knows he loves Gen, and is willing to do just about anything to make her his queen. I also really adored Gareth as the wizard’s king because he is willing and ready to change the way the program works when they won’t accept his mate. It shows just how deep his love for Gen is.

Gen has a job as a Hecate’s Own, her whole job is to serve the Goddess Hecate, and she isn’t sure if that and being Gareth’s queen consort are two jobs that really mesh together. Gen is a strong, capable and independent heroine who kicks butt and takes names in her own right. The fact that she is willing and able to drop everything for the man she loves, just makes her a real character to me.

The plot and the action are well paced and the story builds beautifully and hints at the next book in series, when I’m sure the main story arc will finally be wrapped up. The plot does advance in this story, and there are hints that the magic world will be changing in the future, and I look forward to it.

I cannot recommend this book or series more. I find myself enjoying the rituals and different ways that the different sects of magic users perform magic. It’s intricate and beautiful which shows that a lot of time and thought has gone into building this world. I will be waiting anxiously for the next book.

Putting pen to paper with hilarious results, in Dear Coca-Cola Terry Ravenscroft homes in on the Food & Drink industry. And you don’t want to know what he asks Jacob’s Biscuits for! But you will when you’ve read his letters to them.

You will never look at the contents of your fridge or kitchen cupboards in the same way again.

Sometimes finding a good non-fiction book to read isn’t always the easiest task. Even if it’s a subject I enjoy, oftentimes they end up being too dry for my liking. That wasn’t the case with Dear Coca-Cola. It was funny all the way through. One word of warning; if you read while other people are around you’ll get some strange looks because you will laugh out loud at some of the author’s antics because that’s what happened to me.

The idea behind the book is the author wanted to include his letters to various companies, either complimenting or complaining about their products, and their replies back to him.

Some of them begin quite seriously as to what he didn’t like about something but as the two exchanged more letters, the author’s ones got funnier with more extreme requests and suggestions.

Most of the letters back to him were also funny. You could tell they were trying to be as polite and helpful as they could even when Mr. Ravenscroft had made that an almost impossible task. As I was reading this book I thought how much fun it would have been to see the people’s faces as they read his letters and wondered just how to handle the situation. I’m sure some had a good laugh too.

Some of the letters that stand out for me are the first one and hence the title of the book, to Coca-Cola. His son wanting to eat fish food instead of breakfast cereal, and his letter asking if it was safe. A trip to a brewery with one member who had a peg leg. And a couple of them, complimenting the company for their products boosting his sex life.

The author is from the UK, so if you’re a fan of British comedies this will definitely be a book you’ll enjoy.

After reading Dear Coca-Cola I’ll be checking out some of Mr. Ravenscroft’s other titles and hopefully they’ll make me laugh just as much.

Her younger daughter surprises her with news that she’s engaged and planning to move to England. Her married older daughter appears to be having an affair with an old boyfriend, the very person who might be the Twin Lakes killer. Romance is in the air as Lydia and Detective Molina spar then join forces to stop the murderer before Lydia becomes Victim Number Three.

Lydia Krause tells off a nasty, vindictive and totally in the wrong woman she bumps into in a restaurant …a woman who is murdered that very night.

What a tremendous kick-off to A Murderer Among us. This mystery is gripping and dynamic from the opening. You will be completely involved by the end of the first chapter, and Levinson never allows a slack moment. Lydia is a very easy to identify-with main character, dealing with everyday stuff, as well as driven (understandably) to try to clear her own name.

The investigation thunders along even as her daughter’s issues distract her and a potential for romance hovers as well. She’s hardly popular in her new neighborhood, although she does have supporters. She’s suspected by the police…although a certain inspector might be interested in her for other reasons. Actually, she seems quite distracted by that certain policeman.

Lydia’s investigation, which starts off looking tentative, involves a hunt for motive but turns up actual clues as well. It also causes some further events, endangering Lydia herself and causing… well… let’s not ruin it! One great feature to this mystery is the element of, well, mystery! Little is predictable!

A Murderer Among Us is both like and unlike a typical murder mystery; our main character’s circumstances make this personal, and her approach to ‘solving the case’ might be considered unorthodox. Levinson’s style is straightforward and thoroughly enjoyable: do read.

To fullfil their destinies, the prince will do anything–abduct her, coerce her, or, best of all seduce his reluctant bride into his royal world of peril, promise and passion.

Sometimes I hanker after a story about an arrogant, self-assured prince, castles and long ago told prophecies. In The Runaway Princess, the prince finds a woman that thwarts him, astounds him and simply does not conform to what he perceives a princess to be. He’s so sure she’s lying. He’s so sure he knows best. This tale is appealing because Prince Danior learns a thing or two of what being a real hero is all about. Evangeline beguiles him and seduces him by just being herself; and I enjoyed myself all the way through.

The heroine is quite the little escape artist. She’s well read, has lofty dreams and a pure heart. She’s also stubborn to a fault. I liked her character but I was shocked as to how she could conceive action from reading. If only I could do that. Then again, some of the things she did would make me cower in a corner and suck my thumb. Danior has his hands full. Since he’s so full of himself, Evangeline is the perfect partner for him. She knows how to use a well-placed knee and not afraid to do it. I chuckled quite a few times from her cheeky escapades.

Absolutely, Danior annoyed me. Any man would who was so commanding, autocratic and self-assured to the point of arrogance. However, give the hero his due, he shoulders a huge responsibility and his willingness to shoulder even more is a daunting task and worthy of respect. The extent to which the heroine messes with his intent was comical. She even tells him the truth, repeatedly, continually. What a stubborn man. He tried so hard to remain unaffected so it was doubly pleasing when he finally let loose. Oh, he has his misguided internal angst to deal with but eventually he figures things out and his ultimate decision was oh so very romantic.

Even though this book is tagged as paranormal, it’s not in the form of the latest fashion. It’s more a spiritual woo-woo with a bit of magic. A reader will put the clues together and figure out who is who long before the hero and heroine do. The thing is, I enjoyed seeing the ‘how’ of it and despite suspecting the big reveal, I was entertained and charmed by how the author chose to have things happen.

As far as villains, I was surprised. I really thought I knew who was bad. I had my own bit of arrogance thrown back at me when the truth was revealed. Actually, Evangeline and I were both duped. I liked that. What I find astounding is that one of the villains actually has his own story! I liked The Runaway Princess enough to wonder if this was the only book or if this was a series. Imagine my delight when I found that there was one more. Imagine my shock when I discovered who it was about. I’m buying it.

Even though I thought that it was impossible to put the written word into immediate unrehearsed action, I don’t fault the writing too hard for doing that because it provided some greatly entertaining scenes and plot shifts. Did I think the heroine went one episode too far? Yes, I did. But the results of its occurrence can’t be disputed as being pivotal, so I have to bow to the author’s fantastical suspension of logic. This book aims to entertain, and it does.

The Runaway Princess is fun, especially for a reader who likes to see a haughty royal getting humbled by love. It’s entertaining and a well told story. I only wished there was an epilogue because I would have enjoyed seeing if they had a boy or a girl. Because Danior and Evangeline were a cute couple, I would have liked to have seen the two as parents in the future. In any event, I think historical fantasy readers might like them too. It’s worth checking out.

In a strange land, no money and trying to stay under the radar, MX-401 is on a mission now to survive and get away from the members of the Laventille Killers (LK), who are seeking revenge.

Taking time to call a past lover, and reflect on her also assassin father, Old Man Reaper and coming to know new family members, the author has a lot going on in this action filled 400 plus page novel. Believe me, I am an avid reader and love to escape within the confides of a novel, but with this Dickey novel I am sure I missed a lot because I couldn’t put myself into this story. This is a novel that requires patience, time and also you will have to pay attention so that you will not get lost and confused. The characters have odd names. I didn’t get a feel for any of the characters. They just weren’t believable or developed enough. For a novel of this size I feel like I should know the characters in-depth and still have a connection after spending so much time with them. There is a lot of insignificant small talk in the dialogue that took away from the thrills and action of the book.

True to his pattern in writing style, Dickey did do his research and history on the islands of Trinidad. His detail and description of the geographical location is full of depth and colour. Another one of Dickey’s talents is to write such a long loquacious novel. Dickey has a creative talent and his own personal flare of word play and writing style to a rhythm that his work flows to. Reading his novel will stimulate your mind from a world of action, to sensual love scenes. In this novel you will find graphic and explosive gun fire confrontations, cursing, violence and even a rape scene.

I have read the majority of Dickey’s books prior novels; and love his earlier works that didn’t require so much time and thought to unravel. If you are a fan of his most recent work you may enjoy this one as well. If you have never read Dickey’s work and you are into super novels and you can keep focus on the centered plot even when the author gives a lot more, this will be a novel you would like to give a try.
