I am a big fan of this author and series but found that this book did not draw me in like the others. While their story is hot I did not really connect with Maggie or David. I found David a bit too arrogant for me, even when he is trying to compromise. Maggie was just kind of there for me she really did not stand out. I did however like her best friend, now she has a strong personality. The relationship builds slowly between Maggie and David, which was good but it always seemed to be Maggie’s fault when something goes wrong. Just about everything that was wrong was because of her and she said as much herself. David barely agrees to ever being wrong and it makes Maggie seem too complacent in always taking the blame.

I did enjoy watching Maggie grow and open up. Seeing her realize her wrongs was a nice read. She has grown up one way and must learn to do things differently now with David around. The scenes that they have are intense and hot and the love that they develop begins to shine through in all that they do. While this story was not my favorite from this author this story was well written and I am excited to see what happens next in this series.

I commiserated with Alice as she goes along with the “ruse” and decides to take a chance with Damien. I was also nervous for her since she had never done anything like this. There is something really hunky about a guy in a flight suit. Okay, men in suits and uniforms are hot. I won’t lie. They are. But for me, the flight suit is a deal sealer. Love a guy in a flight suit.

Since this is the week to celebrate the 1Night Stand books, I’m spotlighting my story, One More Night. This book features second chance love, hot sex in a terminal and a pilot. I had to let this story simmer for a while before I wrote it because I needed the characters to talk. I listened to music – both songs entitled, One More Night, were big help – and just thought about the characters. As I hoped, they decided to talk. The heroine is in the restaurant business, but the hero is a pilot.

Here’s how I envisioned him:

Cute, huh? I thought so. He’s also a bit damaged. Part of his back story involves a plane crash. Mechanical failure in the plane which lead to him crashing. Not fun and not conducive to getting back into the air. Most pilots are all about flying. It’s not a hobby, it’s a way of life. So for Drake to not only not have his wings, but to not have the girl he loves… he’s a wreck.

I love the way the suit contours to the body. Utilitarian and sexy to look at. The suit keeps him safe while bringing attention to strategic parts of his anatomy. Yes, I went there. Grin. He’s eye-catching.

Speaking of catches, the catch in this story is big. They’ve only got one night to figure out how to get their relationship back on track. Tough job. Are they up to the challenge? Will the man in the flight suit be a good reason to get her to come back?

John Grisham books are my kryptonite. I admit it. When each one comes out, I jump to see what Grisham will spin out next. The Racketeer is a real ride. I enjoyed the book to an extent. There were a few issues, but I’m glad I read the book.

The writing is one of my issues this time out. There were moments when I wasn’t sure whose point of view I was in. Malcolm, the main character, tends to be the main point of view, but here and there I was treated to others. While this might not be bad for some readers, I had to go back and figure out who was talking. For me this was not good because Malcolm is one step ahead of everyone else. One detail out of place and I got lost.

Another thing I didn’t like was the treatment of one of the secondary characters. I really liked the character of Nathan. The way the plot twisted was interesting and had me needing to know what happened next, but it also left me irked about Nathan. Oh and his dog. I won’t give any spoilers, but yeah, I wasn’t happy. I got emotionally involved in the story, so kudos to Grisham for that, but this was an instance I wasn’t pleased.

Now it may seem I didn’t like this book. Wrong. I enjoyed the book and thought about it long after the last page. I discussed it with friends and went back to read it again. Grisham spins a real whale of a tale in this book and while some of it isn’t to be believed, it’s worth the read.

This book was a total page turner. There was never a dull moment, and there were plenty of surprises hidden around the corners. I was frantically flipping through the pages, anxious to see what would happen next and frequently surprised by what did occur.

The characters were what really made the book great, though. Though they started out as perhaps less than admirable, I was pleased with the changes of heart that the characters went through while they journeyed together. It was, overall, one of the best stories about Atlantis that I have read yet.

It’s perfect for fans of Mythology, folklore and fantasy of all ages.

He will do what he thinks is right and will break with his family if need be in order to follow his conscience.

The mystery unravels quickly at the end and you will be surprised as to the reason for Ruby’s murder. This is a well-written book that will provide you with an enjoyable read.

There were some really nice lines in Beltane Fires, particularly in the opening few pages. Descriptions that set me into the story and dialogue that told me what I needed to know without being an information dump. I liked Alex and Fiona too; their togetherness as a couple was sweet though I did agree with Ceri that she was a bit of a gooseberry.

While the festival is taking place Ceri takes a walk along a wooded path, she wasn’t enjoying all the drinking and merriment when she was feeling low. Add in the fact that everyone was in couples, looking set to have their lusty desires met, and she really needed to get away. She meets a handsome stranger, the Forest Lord and then… Phew!

Beltane Fires is a short read, a nice start to a series that mixes paganism with erotic romance and if you like fantasy and hot guys this would appeal to you. Ms Bishop has a nice way of creating a scene with a wide use of adjectives that complement each other rather than bogging the reader down with words.

I liked Ceri, and her Forest Lord. Of course they have lots of wild, rampant sex pretty damn quick after meeting, but this ‘is’ a story and this ‘is’ fantasy, and to be honest, it was just what I was looking for when I picked up Beltane Fires. I would certainly read more in the series.

When she finally saw herself as I saw her, he didn’t stand a chance. It was funny to watch River try to step in and protect Jeanette and yet be determined to keep her at arms length. Obviously, it doesn’t work and once he realizes it their relationship takes a decidedly different and smoking hot direction.

Of all the Jennings boys who where forced into foster care as young children, River seems to have had it the worst. Besides being separated from his twin and older siblings he was put into an abusive home and forced to defend himself as well as his foster brother. The nightmares he has are so poignant and detailed it broke my heart to relive them with him but I can see how it was necessary to garner sympathy for this hero. River isn’t the most sociable of people but the love of his adoptive parents, his brothers and Jeanette have kept him grounded. It wasn’t difficult to believe that he was mentally scarred from his ordeal in foster care. What happened to him and his foster brother, Joey, is horrific and evil.

This is a story that easily drew me into the lives of these characters even though I hadn’t read the other Blackwater books but there were a couple of plot threads that didn’t feel like they were fully fleshed out. For River’s sake I wanted complete closure to his nightmares about his foster father. It just seemed like that would have helped begin the healing for him to know that the man could never hurt another living soul. Also, the mugging that brought River front and center back into Jeanette’s living room was kind of anti-climatic. After a menacing phone call I guess I was expecting the mugger to be more of presence in building tension for the story but then that part of the story was resolved with a simple phone call. I understood that the point of the mugging was to give River a reason to step in and admit he wanted Jeanette for more than a friend and it’s possible story length constraints kept Ms. Rainey from drawing out that line of thinking. It didn’t make or break my enjoyment of the story it was just noticeable.

As I mentioned, I haven’t read the other books in the Blackwater series but that will be remedied very soon. This story piqued my curiosity to read Sam, Brodix, Vance and Reilly’s stories. This family is very fascinating and I really want to know about how the other brothers fared in foster care compared to River. This book stood alone just fine without having read the others but it also sent me looking for those stories to round out the series.

Readers who look for the broody broken heroes and spunky, smart-mouthed heroines will surely love River and Jeanette’s story. River is indeed redeemed in this book it was beautiful to witness. If you love a close knit family series, check out the Blackwater books!

The story begins in the middle of a weekend that will change our characters’ lives forever. Ainsley has come looking for Aric. His feelings were very real to me and made me believe this man had been changed by this experience.

As the weekend ends, decisions have to made as to the future of their relationship. The author once again surprises all by the disclosure of Ainsley’s true feelings. I could only sigh and hope for their future at their end. This story is definitely recommended for those of you wanting a short read that “packs a punch”, full of feeling and life changing emotions.

I like the work of Linda Warren. It’s like spending time with old friends. Usually these friends have a whole lot more drama than mine do, but that’s why it’s fun to read about them.

A Texas Family is a good read. The characters are interesting and I thought about them long after the book closed. I couldn’t stay up to finish the book and they were with me as I fell asleep. That’s a real feat for an author–to hold my attention even when the book is closed.

There were a few things about this book that ripped me out of the story. At one point the hero and heroine are in the bedroom and the descriptions–while staying with the sweeter side of spicy–didn’t make sense, so I had to read them a couple of times. Another thing that pulled me out of the story was when the characters would be doing two things at one time, ie “pulling the phone out, he made a call”. I couldn’t get past that for a little bit. Granted, these are small things in the story and shouldn’t inhibit all readers. I think I was the exception.

Another thing that got to me with this story, but isn’t a bad thing, were the characters. The lack of trust in this story is astounding. I don’t know how someone didn’t clobber anyone else before it was done. I got emotionally involved with both Carson and Jena and for their collective sakes, I wanted to bop someone on the head. The baddie was bad, and a little nonredeemable. But that made the story interesting. I do like how Ms Warren wrote the ending. Good job!

This isn’t the spiciest book on the spicy scale, but it packs a punch. If you want characters with zip, a story line with plenty of twists and turns, and a great ending, then this might be the book for you.
