She walks a tightrope between light and dark. Danger and passion. Obsession and love…

Fireborne, Book 1

Aziza Jane Stewart is living on borrowed time, and making a few mistakes in London seems like a good way to go out with a bang. But when two compelling strangers draw her into an ancient conflict, she realizes her curse isn’t about death at all…it’s about the power within her.

The sexy giant following her says he can smell trouble on her skin, the smokeless fire and magic of the demons he was born and bred to hunt. Brandon may be an enforcer, but his reaction to her is anything but adversarial. Ram, her new Jinn shadow, will do whatever it takes to come between them, and he’s just as hard for Aziza to resist.

When her dark family legacy burns to the surface, whom can Aziza trust? The alpha male who pushes all her hot buttons, the Jinn who seduces her in dreams, or the emerging Fireborne within? As danger circles closer, she must learn to embrace her newfound powers—and trust someone with her heart—before she becomes the final casualty.

Burn With Me is the first book in R.G. Alexander’s new Fireborne series, and it is an interesting introduction to a world filled with supernatural beings.

Aziza Jane Stewart lives every day as though it could be her last, because she believes that is the truth. After losing most of her family, she has just her Aunt Penn left, and with her time running out, she goes to England to spend some time with her beloved aunt. She takes along her ever-present ‘bodyguard’ and best friend since forever, Gregory Prophet.

Greg has stayed by Aziza’s side throughout her mad scramble across continents and in and out of clubs and places to rough to imagine, always keeping her grounded. When strange things begin to happen around her, she convinces Penn to head for the ancestral country home, while Aziza and Greg try to discover why people keep dying around her. When a gorgeous giant of a man begins following her around London, Aziza is determined to find out what he is tracking her for. When she has an encounter with a mystery man, and he triggers latent powers in Aziza, telling her she is a Fireborne, the last one. It is her family legacy, and the reason her brothers are dead, killed by a radical supernatural who is determined that Aziza assume her place as Fireborne, and he wants control of her. As Aziza comes to terms with her newly awakened powers, she discovers not everything is as it seems, with Jinn, Shifters and Niyr surrounding her as she struggles to learn exactly what being Fireborne means. As the danger grows, and people begin dying around her, Aziza sets out to find the answers she needs, while trying to avoid her attraction to a sexy Jinn and a big shifter Enforcer. Will Aziza discover her true destiny before anyone else is killed? Can she protect those she loves from mortal danger? Can she find out what her role as Fireborne is before it is too late?

I like Ms. Alexander’s mix of real and paranormal London, with nothing being what it appears to be. The characters are all well-defined and charismatic, people you might meet on any stroll down the London streets. Ms. Alexander has extended the imagination to bring life to her creation, and I was swept into the story from the very beginning.

Aziza Jane Stewart is a strong and determined young woman. She believes she is cursed to die on her twenty-seventh birthday, and she plans to live every day to its fullest. I love Aziza, with her take no prisoners attitude, ready to experience all life offers before it is too late. When she discovers she isn’t really human, she realizes there is a whole world she knows nothing about, and has to come to terms with a new reality. When she keeps seeing the ‘giant of a man’ wherever she goes, she wants to know more, and when she finally meets Brandon, she has no idea what he really is. When Ram is able to trigger her abilities, she is terrified, but hides it behind her sarcastic wit. But her attraction to both the gorgeous Jinn and the shifter Enforcer will take her to passions she’s never known before.

Brandon is an enforcer, keeping the Jinn from crossing into the human plane without permission. He is strong and handsome, and determined to discover what Aziza is. And he wants her more than he has ever wanted any female, and doesn’t quite understand it. I like Brandon, especially when he is able to accept that Aziza is more than she appears, and is determined to protect her.

Ram and Shev are Aziza’s Jinn protectors, able to guide her, but not able to tell her much about who and what she is without fear of reprisals from their superiors. They are able to pop in and out of her life, and I enjoyed the sassy with both displayed. And I had to laugh at Ram when he explained to Aziza that, while there were other ways to trigger her abilities, he chose sex because he enjoyed being with her.

There are many secondary characters in this, and each has some role to play in the story. I especially like Aziza’s best friend, Gregory Prophet, who has always loved her, but knows she doesn’t return the sentiment, so he becomes her friend, confidant and bodyguard. As things begin to spiral out of control, Aziza learns she must find a way to keep her friend and her aunt safe, and uncover her true destiny as the last Fireborne. When an unexpected faction tries to take control of Aziza to create chaos and use her powers, she finally takes charge to keep her people safe.

This would not be an R.G. Alexander book without lots of passion and romance, and this one is filled with hot moments to thrill. Will she choose the big handsome shifter, or the sensuous and tricky Jinn to sate her desires? There is attraction there between Aziza and both of these men, and there is a wicked interlude in the barn with Brandon and an invisible Ram that is so hot it could scorch the page. There is not a happy ever after her, but there is a happy for now for Aziza, with the promise of more adventure to come.

It Takes A Lady

Brilliant scholar Genevieve Barrett knows how to keep a secret. Her identity as the author of her father’s academic articles has always been her greatest deception—until a charming housebreaker tries to steal the mysterious Harmsworth Jewel from her. She doesn’t reveal that she recognizes her father’s devastatingly handsome new student as the thief himself. For Genevieve, this will be the most seductive secret of all…

However, today medical science has come up with products that are not only beneficial to the consumers but are also environmentally friendly. inLife claims to make free innovative and exciting products to its consumers while improving the financial well being of their glacialridgebyway.com levitra prescription business and ask them questions. Sir Richard Harmsworth has been living a lie, maintaining a rakish façade to show society that he doesn’t care about his status as a bastard. Yet long haunted by his unknown father’s identity, Richard believes the Harmsworth Jewel will confirm his claim as the rightful heir. But when Richard sets out to seduce the bookworm who possesses the stone, he instead falls for its beautiful owner. But even as she steals Richard’s heart, Genevieve will be in greater danger than her coveted treasure…

The ton is a vicious circle, and Sir Richard Harmsworth would do anything to stop the gossip mill from running. Even if it means seducing an innocent scholar.

Sir Richard decided to obtain a family heirloom at any cost at a time he was in a tizzy over yet another snide comment made about his parentage. He sets forth a plan that requires a disguise and help from a friend after an attempted theft falls through. I think the first scene in which Richard encounters the heroine sets the tone for the entire story.

Genevieve Barrett is not your average country mouse that you’d expect from a vicar’s daughter. Having a father recognized as an acclaimed scholar and historian is frustrating when it’s her mind that is producing the articles that are published under his name. The fact that her father will not share his false credit is starting to press her ire. While working on a coup that will help her break away from her father, a handsome gentleman enters her life as her father’s new student. On edge since the burglary, Genevieve instantly feels unease towards this man even though he’s the most handsome man she’d ever seen.

The banter between the couple was I thought the best part of the story. She tried so hard to be cold and indifferent to him and he just antagonized her to the point of distraction which charmed her even more. The lust she felt for him burned the page when she finally let go of her leash and Richard’s struggle to maintain his goal made him an endearing character. I thought the addition of Richard dog was both adorable and heartwarming in a tale so full of lies and secrets.

Anna Campbell painted a vivid story of love and lies, and I enjoyed this book immensely. I enjoyed the wit and emotions that flowed through the characters. I had not previously read book one of Sons of Sin series, but I didn’t feel as though I missed anything. One of my favorite parts of reviewing is reading a book in a series and finding that I now urgently want to read the entire series. If you’re a historical romance lover as I am, you won’t regret picking up A Rake’s Midnight Kiss.

They say that big girls don’t cry. But when the chips are down and the dip is gone, what can you do? Pull up your BIG GIRL PANTIES and change your life.

Holly Brennan didn’t expect to be a widow at thirty-two. She also didn’t expect to be so big. Through her husband Bruce’s diagnosis and death, food was the one thing she could always count on. Now, those extra pounds make flying coach more than a little mortifying-especially since she’s sitting next to Adonis himself, aka Logan Montgomery, a personal trainer to the country’s most famous pro athletes.

Though Holly doesn’t make the grade on his first-impression meter, Logan finds himself intrigued by her sharp wit and keen insight-a welcome change from the beautiful bubble-headed dolls he usually dates-and impulsively offers to get her back in shape. Ready to make at least one positive change in her life, Holly agrees.

To Logan’s (and her own) surprise, Holly turns out to be a natural in the gym. Throwing herself into exercise, the red head with the blazing wit and welcoming smile slims down into a bonafide looker with killer curves-and a new kind of hunger. Soon, the easy intimacy and playful banter of their training sessions lead Logan and Holly into the bedroom where they share their most intense and steamy workouts yet.

But can a man whose whole life depends on looks commit himself to a woman who doesn’t fit his image? Now that Holly’s turning other men’s heads, does she even need Logan anymore? Are they a couple built to last . . . or is this sizzling affair going to burn out fast?

Big Girl Panties is an intriguing look at one woman’s journey back from over-indulgence to finding her courage and self esteem.

Holly Brennan hates to fly, but after concluding some business concerning her late husbands estate in Canada, she has no choice. She was one of the last to board, and as luck would have it, her seat was next to an Adonis of a man. The look he gave when she was led to her seat said it all; ‘not the fat chick’. Holly had heard it before, although to be fair, Mr. Handsome didn’t open his mouth, just got a resigned look on his face, as though he was used to the best in everything, including women.

For Logan Montgomery, getting bumped from first class was just the beginning of a bad day, then his seat mate turns out to be an overweight, slightly messy woman, he has to bite his tongue. As a fitness trainer to celebrity athletes, Logan is very much in demand, but something about the white knuckles of the woman seated next to him can’t be ignored. After chatting throughout the flight, Logan decides to help Holly get in shape, and convinces her to let him work with her. Holly agrees, because she knows she hasn’t taken proper care of herself for a long time, probably since she escaped her home and parents for college, then her marriage. As Holly works with Logan, she starts to gain a bit of self esteem, something that has been missing in her life for some time. But could a woman like Holly ever hope to fit in the high profile life of someone like Logan? As they grow closer, will Logan realize what he has found in Holly? Or will he let appearances ruin the best thing to ever come his way?

This is a book of discovery, not just for Holly, but for Logan too, as he discovers that he has been a shallow and insensitive person, and that he was missing out on the best of life in the process. I liked the characters in this; both the primary and secondary characters were strong and, in some cases, extremely outspoken and opinionated. Stephanie Evanovich has sprinkled humor throughout this story, along with some healthy romance and some undercurrents of sadness and self doubt. I like this world, and the people in it are folks I’d enjoy meeting.

Holly Brennan is a strong and sensitive woman. When first we meet Holly, she has been widowed, and has been letting life kick her around. She’s never met a snack she didn’t like, and food is her comfort and her solace. As she begins to make changes, she gains self esteem, and becomes stronger, and determined not to slip back to her old ways. I liked watching as Holly found out who she was and what she wanted from life, including her desire for a new direction, hopefully including Logan. But I liked that she became someone who didn’t need him, if things didn’t work out.

Logan Montgomery is a successful, handsome and determined man, sure of himself and what he wants. When he meets Holly, at first all he sees is a ‘fat woman’ in need of help. As he gets to know her, he begins to admire her inner strength, and her willingness to do what she needs to succeed. But at first, Logan is shallow and less than sincere, and when he and Holly become involved, he hides his feelings and doesn’t even realize he is doing it. I liked watching as Logan learned what true value feelings could have, and watching as he finally ‘grew up’ into the kind of man he should always have been.

This is a story of one woman finding out who she is and what she wants out of life, and what she will accept to be truly happy. There are some rough spots for Holly and Logan, and for a time I believed Holly would be better off leaving him. I enjoyed watching how things were handled, always with a touch of humor, and with strength of character. There are some very emotional scenes in this, and there were some places that brought tears to my eyes. Do Holly and Logan have their happy ever after? After several false starts and some misunderstandings, and some very funny episodes, they finally find their way.

In addition, the Oracle, which set Rael up as the new Corporate Overlord, is posing its own threats in a world where men, machines, and the paranormal interact.

Resonances is the second book in The Fireborn Chronicles, and it can be read alone. However, I was very glad that I’d already read the first book (Fireborn Found) so that I knew the members of the Dark Ops crew. This knowledge made my reading a much deeper and more satisfying experience. That being said, Resonances works fine as a stand-alone and the story is exciting, fast-paced, with many twists and turns in the plot so that the reader is engaged quickly, as the roller-coaster ride of thrills takes off.

I was particularly impressed with Mary Andrews’ sensitive handling of the difficulties encountered by the telepaths in every day life. Imagine what it would be like to be bombarded all the time with people’s emotions. Handling that kind of onslaught without being damaged requires a great deal of skill. The Archangels who serve and protect Rael have their own unique learning curve. They have been used to handling the previous Overlord so that his every need was instantly met, his emotions were handled, and everything ran smoothly. But Rael refuses to give up his humanity. He doesn’t want his needs anticipated and he doesn’t want to lose his own feelings. The Archangels must learn a new way of working, and when Rael insists that they have a right to have their own needs met as well, the Archangels become disturbed and confused, proving that change is never easy for anyone.

This is an exciting and thought-provoking fantasy novel, and I am sure that any readers of fantasy will find it fascinating and enthralling. This novel portrays an alternate reality that is complex and fully realized, and I truly enjoyed the time I spent in it.

Rome, September, 1978

Pope John Paul I is found dead in his bedroom. No autopsy is performed.

The body of a young nun is discovered near the Vatican. The verdict, death by poisoning.

Present Day

Dominic Quinn returns to Ireland to attend his father’s funeral. His sole inheritance, a mystery dating back two thousand years. His only clues, a few enigmatic words that others would prefer stay buried – at any cost.

Surrounded by lethal enemies, Dominic is drawn into the shadowy world of Vatican covert operations. He travels to Rome to unravel the secrets of a first-century manuscript, reputedly written by the Virgin Mary. What he finds will challenge everything he thought he knew about his past, his faith, and the nature of the universe itself.

And, in an unexcavated area of the necropolis beneath the Vatican, the evil that pursues him will clash head on with the divine.

Dominic Quinn returns to Ireland for his father’s funeral but before he knows it, he is caught up in a two thousand year old mystery. Dominic lost his faith when he found his parish priest raping his best friend, Colin. Dominic had rescued Colin, but then Dominic was sent to New York, accused by many of causing the priest’s death. No wonder he lost his faith. But he came back to bury his father and discovers that his father had kept a journal about religious matters, specifically a heretical group called the Collyridians and a first-century manuscript supposedly written by the Virgin Mary.

Suddenly Dominic finds himself involved with Vatican covert operations. Stephen Marley has written a gripping mystery novel full of suspense and intrigue. Dominic learns family history that turns his world upside-down. He is re-united with a girl he’d fallen in love with but lost track of earlier in his life. He sees visions and meanwhile, assassins hired by the insane Monsignor Chavet chase him through several countries. The pace never slows.

In addition to the fast-paced thriller, this novel is also filled with early church history and ancient science, especially concerning time and other dimensions. I found the philosophical discussions to be fascinating. Dominic realizes that modern physics regards “the cosmos as more like a vast thought than a mighty machine. Why was it so incredible that a woman, two thousand years past, with the immense resources of the Library of Alexandria, should have passed beyond the matter myth and bridged the infinite worlds of superspace, each world closer than his own breath?” Later on, Rachel adds to these thoughts with those of her own. “And, above all, there was the doctrine that Mary had never truly died. The Catholic Church hailed it as the assumption; the Orthodox Church, the dormition; the Collyridians, the Indwelling. What would it be like, in reality, to encounter a being who had bypassed death, twenty centuries ago, and moved in unseen worlds?”

Marley’s characters are well-developed and believable. I really liked Dominic, Rachel, and many of the supporting characters, and I found the villains to be terrifyingly real. The settings are vivid, putting the reader right in Ireland or Rome. And the ecclesiastical mystery is well plotted with a lot of research into ancient science and theology. Marley does juggle a lot of threads with the action so that the reader is constantly being shifted from one point of view to another. At first, I found this a bit jarring, but soon, it just seemed to be the only way to tell this intricate story. And the depth of the arguments over the Seventy-Ninth heresy were incredibly interesting.

Mystery readers who enjoy a spine-tingling thriller with an historical basis will certainly find The Heresy to be a gripping and engaging read.

Sex and the City move over and make room for The Manhattanites series by Avery Aster. This series is for those of us readers who are fans of erotic romance, fun and laughter… in other words; we enjoy the thrill of it all! As an erotic romance story, Unscrupulous is risqué and hilarious due to the situations our characters get into.

I especially enjoyed the scene where Tabby meets Warner (what a hunk!) and they both are instantly attracted to each other. Their first seduction scene is very HOT and sensual in the middle of the VIP section of a very exclusive club. These two characters are strong, possessive, and dominant. After realizing this, I knew this story would test their limits and resolves. This is not the usual boy meets girl, etc. romance format. It is full of romance, passion, and yet jocularity.

My only regret is that these characters spend so much of their energy in the chase and I wish the author had given us more of their romance. On the other hand, it provides for an increase in adrenaline waiting for the moment when these two characters must clash.

If you have not read Undressed (The Manhattanites book #1) by Avery Aster, you do not have to read it before reading this book (though, why wouldn’t you want to?). This standalone novel will leave you hooked on this series of stories. You will laugh, cry, and yes cheer at their antics. Looking forward to reading book #3 from this author.

Their second chance generates a dangerous kind of heat…

A Cascadia Wolves Story

As a cop, Michelle Slattery is familiar with the dark side of human behavior, but this case is way above her skill level. Mages have been scouring the country kidnapping witches, draining their energy, and leaving their broken bodies behind.

With Michelle’s best friend among the missing, she appeals to the Owen witches, who send her to the last place she’d thought she’d see a familiar face. The werewolves.

When a witch seeking help shows up at the Pacific Pack headquarters, Josh Neelan gets the shock of his life. She’s none other than his high school sweetheart, the one he left behind when he was bitten and turned. Their intense sexual chemistry still sizzles for a reason—she’s his mate.

As they begin to work through their issues, their rekindled romance quickly flames red hot. But the closer they get, the more dangerous the outside world becomes. And they realize magick-thieving mages are just the tip of the iceberg.

Unconditional is an exciting read from one of my absolute favorite authors. This is the newest book in the Cascadia Wolves series. The story bridges three stellar paranormal series in fact – the Cascadia Wolves, de La Vega Cats and Bound By Magick. Now, I might be a tiny bit biased, with the Cascadia Wolves and de La Vega Cats being two of my personal favorites, but I think it’s safe to say that Lauren Dane outdid herself on this one. The story was so exciting, with so many things going on at the same time, and with a suspense that was riveting, I was on edge the entire time. I definitely enjoyed reading this one.

In September 2008, Richmond International Raceway announced on a Friday afternoon that it was moving a Saturday night Sprint Cup race to Sunday afternoon because of a tropical-storm forecast. best web-site generic levitra online Remember that sexual impotence is not a curable condition, but it is able to be palliated with positive oral ED tablets. cost of cialis So when you fail or encounter one of those dark nights or winter seasons consider these three touchstones as points of potential light: It’s Always Darkest before the Dawn Trust there’s a lesson on the other side to have an attached responsibility, cheap cialis soft or it becomes perceived as ‘unfair’. There are some other medications that have been discounted with a large amount. view now discount viagra I think it’s fair to say that this story doesn’t work well as a stand alone novel. While it begins a new ARC in the Cascadia Wolves series, it also bridges the other two as well, coinciding with Chaos Burning. A lot of cataclysmic events are happening at the same time here. There is an interwoven storyline and interacting characters from all three series. While this story is told from the shifters POV, with Dane doing a standout job at explaining the chaos caused by the evil Magister, an unfamiliar reader might get confused with all the recurring characters and events that are on page. As such, I would suggest reading ,at minimum, from the later Cascadia Wolves and de La Vega Cats series. Just so you don’t get lost.

As the story opens, we meet Michelle, who is a cop and a witch. When we meet Michelle, she is living in the human world, staying on the down low, cause the witches have yet to “come out” to the human world as the shifters have already done. She is kind of unaware that witches all over the country are going missing. It’s a rude awakening when her best friend is taken. In her investigation she discovers that this is a big problem in the magical world. Evil Mages are kidnapping witches, violently draining their magical essence to get their fix. Michelle senses that Otherworldly forces are at play, and that she may be in over her head on the case. She needs help to find her friend, so with time running out, she goes to the Pacific Pack to ask for help. There she runs into Josh, her old high school sweetheart who broke her heart. Josh is a turned werewolf and a Pacific Pack Enforcer.

Josh offers to help in the investigation and explains some things to Michelle. The chemistry is still there for them, and as they work together it soon becomes obvious that they are mates. Josh and Michelle were good together. I liked the romantic element that was at play, and with the sexy love scenes that were thrown in, this story had no problem keeping my attention. Though their relationship was tumultuous at times, lovers reunited will always be a winner with this reader.

The plot was super exciting with so many things happening that drove the plot relentlessly. Drama was thick and emotions were intense. Michelle and Josh had a past history that ended badly. This one had quite a bit of romantic conflict coming from that shared history. Like so many of Dane’s heroines, Michelle was a strong and assertive female, not about to be managed by any man. Josh was a dominant alpha wolf, who wanted to protect and possess his mate. The alpha wolf was so bossy, he wanted a control that he wasn’t about to get. At first Michelle wanted to keep control of her emotions, fearing that Josh would run out on her again. It took a tragic event to make her take that leap of faith, give up control and grab onto what she really wanted.

Another thing I liked was how honest and forthright the lovers were about their feelings. I liked how caring and understanding Josh was with his woman. Especially the consideration that was put into choosing an anchor for their Tri-Bond.

Speaking of that Tri-Bond …. that love scene was so sexy. I must say that I truly enjoyed the connection Josh and Michelle shared with their anchor.

Now, to the ending. It was climactic in one way …. rather abrupt in another. I enjoyed the action in that showdown. Loved the emotions as Josh feared that he might lose his mate. I really loved how it was resolved. Yet it all happened so fast, then it just left me hanging. Almost like the author was in a rush to end it and move on to something else. It still works for me though, I’m hoping to see a clearer resolution in the next book. Might I just say that I am eager for it already.

Another great read from Lauren Dane. I enjoyed every page, may even go back to read them again, before the next one comes out. I’m happy to recommend this one.

It’s 1929 and a local Negro neighborhood called Jackson Ward in Richmond, Virginia is booming. In fact, it’s called “The Black Wall Street of America” by economists of the day. Things are booming financially and socially for the Negro community, but then a series of what appears to be random murders of poor working class Negro women begins to happen and everyone is on edge, especially the Negro business owners. The Ward is a very tight community – strangers cannot move freely about in this segregated town. They hire haunted World War I veteran and alcoholic Sy Sanford to catch the cold-blooded murderer, but murder is not the only thing threatening to destroy “The Black Wall Street of America.” The real Wall Street is about to come tumbling down and plunge Jackson Ward and its infamous 2nd Street into a debilitative financial and social state it may never recover from.

Sy Sanford races against the clock to discover the connection between a grisly serial killer and the woman the murderer is stalking.

1929, the heart of Jackson Ward, the booming Negro neighborhood known as The Black Wall Street of America, young girls are being found brutally raped and murdered. The local police doesn’t seem to take the dead bodies as a priority, but local businesses find that the news of a murderer on the lose could be bad for their business. The prestigious and wealthy business women and men rally together to hire local former World War I Army Captain, Sy Sanford to investigate the serial murders of young working woman that seem to be targeted. Sy is fighting his own demons. Returning to the states after fighting for his country he returns only to be treated less than what he is. Haunted by images of his abusive father the bottle is Sy’s only relief to rid his mind from the demons that chase him.

Sy agrees to take on this case, it’s not like his security business has any other pertinent cases in the works. At first I was mad with Sy for not getting it together, his drinking was not under control. The night he was hired he ended up in a drunken supper. I like how the author unfolded Sy’s story. The more I got to know him the more I understood his struggle. I wanted him to solve the case, get recognition and live happily ever after. Reality check- the Jackson Ward is not a perfect world so Sy didn’t get that perfect ending….at least not the perfect ending that I wanted for him.

Sy hired Lena Johnson as his secretary. Lena’s husband is a former boxer, turned barber, who is an abusive cheat. Sy has a love for Lena, but never acts on his feelings out of respect for Lena and her marriage. I so wanted Lena and Sy to end up together, for them to have the love and happiness that they both seek. I can’t give any spoilers so that’s all I have to say on this.

The author did a wonderful job of building the characters description and personalities. I grew to know the primary characters, the young ladies that were briefly mention and even the murderer. To show how attached I was to the characters I was hurt and near tears that the story didn’t play out like my heart wanted it to. Sniff-sniff. I wanted the killer to be caught sooner. I had one of those feelings you get when you are watching a movie, you know the worst is about to happen but you are hoping for a better outcome. Yeah, this book gave me that feeling. After a vocal No! No! I put the book down until I gathered my composure.

Through this author’s eyes, a terrifying patch of history comes to vivid life, a story told with such liveliness and intenseness the description is so interesting and exciting that I was emotionally stirred. The pacing and tension is masterfully placed particularly how the flashes of the World War I scenes happen during specific times with Sy as he investigate the gruesome murder scenes.

The visual setting of the Jackson Ward is so picturesque that I could actually visualize the stores along the street. The author has a talent and gift to telling a satisfying story.

The novel is rich in authentic detail, along with style and tone. The author transforms the novel into a stunning and wide reaching novel that will evoke all emotions from it’s reader. The historical aspect of the book sets it apart from many typical reads, both the timeline and place adds to the uniqueness of the story. I am glad that I had the pleasure of reading this book. I loved the author’s writing style, the plot and how it all worked in together with actually historical events. There were a number of typos and copy editing misses, but over all it was a capturing read.

This was more than just a good read, it was an experience. Kudos to the author for a job well done.

Claire Bannister just wants to be a good teacher so that she and the other ladies of the Governess Club can make enough money to leave their jobs and start their own school in the country. But when the new sinfully handsome and utterly distracting tutor arrives, Claire finds herself caught up in a whirlwind romance that could change the course of her future.

Jacob Knightly has a secret. He is actually the notorious Earl of Rimmel. He’s just posing as a tutor to escape his reputation in the city. He never expected to fall in love with the kind and beautiful governess. She is the first person to love him for himself and not his title.

But when Jacob’s true identity is revealed, Claire realizes she has risked her reputation and her heart on a man she doesn’t truly know. Will Jacob be able to convince her that the Wild Earl has been tamed and that she is the true countess of his heart?

A pithy, delightful story, The Governess Club: Claire takes the reader to the limbo spot where Claire is. She is one of the “invisible” class, a governess who is responsible for five children. She and other governess friends make a plan to become independent private tutors some day. It is a long range plan that will probably take five years to accomplish. The plan encompasses Claire’s deep desire to regain her beloved home Ridgestone.

Claire, a squire’s daughter, had all the privileges of that social position but was left homeless and in need of employment when her father died leaving many debts. As a governess, she doesn’t fit with the servants or the titled. Moreover, she has become fair game for men of privilege who want sex without commitment. Even though she is supposedly under the protection of her employer, her word against the word of one of the employer’s peers is not like to go in her favor.

Jacob Knightly’s outward disguise is convincing enough when he comes into the household to be the tutor for the two boys in Claire’s care, but his actions give him away. Claire realizes he is not what he presents himself to be. He expects to be waited on, sulks when things don’t go to suit him, doesn’t obey house rules, and acts downright childish at times. His tutoring skills need work, lots of work, and he demands rather than asks when he wants something from the servants. To his credit, he is a fast learner. His attitude toward Claire and tutoring changes as he deals with day to day issues. He no longer sees Claire as a young woman to have some fun with. He wants more than he has ever wanted from a woman with her.

The plot unfolds in the way one expects, but the little tidbits and insights into the mores of the time and the different social standards set for nobility and servants reveals much about the unfairness of the way people were treated and how they were expected to act at that time in history.

Ellie MacDonald’s character development lets the reader see unique traits in the children as well as the adult characters, making them seem quite human. Her concise dialogue tells much about each of character. The reader becomes aware of their flaws, beliefs, desires, and deep-down values. Ms. MacDonald, with a captivating writing style shows the hero and heroine working out their own salvation in the class-crazy world they live in. Her writing sparkles with flecks of humor throughout and touches the heart as love slips in for a happy-ever-after.

It will be fun to see how each governess in The Governess Club fares in upcoming books.
