Author Interview: Amelia Grey

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Amelia Grey, whose latest book The Rogue Steals a Bride is out this month.

The Rogue Steals A Bride is the sixth and final book in the Rogues’ Dynasty Series. The main character that binds the six books together is Sir Randolph Gibson, a wily old gentleman who is a best friend to the heroes of the first three books. When Amelia’s editor asked if she could continue the Rogues Dynasty for three more books, she decided to make Sir Randolph the enemy of the rogues in the last three books.

“Sir Randolph is the guardian of the heroine in this story and his story come full circle, too, in a dramatic conclusion to The Rogue Steals A Bride,” Amelia told me. “I hope my readers approve of the ending.”

Romance books have always been Amelia’s favorite books to read.

“When my husband’s job took us to Connecticut, my children had just started grade school. I was a stay at home mom. While the kids were at school, I needed something to fill my time. I didn’t want to get a job outside the home so one day I decided to write a romance book,” she explained. “I joined a local writers group and learned there were workshops on writing being held in New York City. I took the train into the city and took classes on how to plot, bring characters to life, create drama, do transitions, and many other things you need to know to write a successful book. I sold my first book to Warner Books in 1990. ”

Before becoming Amelia Grey, the author wrote ten books as Gloria Dale Skinner and three as Charla Cameron, all of which were set in America.

“When I wanted to move to England and start writing Regency stories, my editor suggested I take a new name, a more English sounding name so after much thought I came up with Amelia Gray. And my editor said let’s spell Grey the way the British do, not the American way so I became Amelia Grey and have been for eleven books now,” she said.

One of Amelia’s favorite authors of Regency romance is Amanda Quick. She’s read all of Amanda’s books and enjoyed them.

” The things I like most about her books are the snappy dialogue, fast pace storytelling, and intelligent heroines. I try to have all three of those things in my books, too,” she said.

Amelia’s tone is always light and humorous. She doesn’t write dark stories or deal with heavy subject matter. In each of her books, she tries to put the hero and heroine into a fun or quirky situation and have them have to find a way to work themselves out of it.

“For example, in The Rogue Steals A Bride, Matson and Sophia both have darn good reasons why they shouldn’t be together but in order to keep the book light-hearted and in my style of writing, I put a wily little boy-thief between Matson and Sophia to cause fun and trouble,” she told me.

“How many books have you written?” I asked.

“I’m happy to say The Rogue Steals A Bride is my twenty-fifth published book. I’m so excited about it. It has a gorgeous cover, too.”

Where to buy Mast Mood capsules and Mast Mood oil are the best ayurvedic remedies which cialis buy india can remove the problem of premature ejaculation in males. “Which was your favorite?”

“That is difficult. I love every book I write. If I didn’t love the story and characters I would put it aside and keep working until I came up with a story and characters I loved.  If I don’t love them, I can’t make you love them. I do have some books that have more meaning for me than others because of the story. For instance, my book Ransom, written as Gloria Dale Skinner, is the good sister/bad sister story. I have four sisters and I put a little of all four of my sisters in that book. I especially enjoyed A Marquis To Marry because the heroine had been married before and wasn’t new to love or love making so that was different for me and an enjoyable book to write. And lastly, A Little Mischief was simply fun for me from the first page because I had a dead body go missing and then show up again later in the book and then go missing again!”

Finally I asked, “What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?”

“The best advice I can give is what has worked for me. Write what you love to read. There are some natural storytellers who sell the first book they write but that wasn’t me and if it’s not you, there is help. The good thing is that what you don’t have in natural ability you can learn as a skill. Join a writers group and make friends so you can discuss your plots and characters or talk about the business with them. Take writing courses. Write a little at least five days a week so you will get into the habit of thinking about your book. Once you get the book written, send it to an agent or editor.”

Just One Taste Is All It Takes…

This is no ordinary mirror. Caspian caught a hint of color, a whirl of a waltz just past his reflection—a glimpse into the decadent Fairy Court of Annwyn. The home he could never have. It called to him, whispering temptation after temptation…if he could only reclaim his rightful heritage.

To Be Forever Lost…

Caspian has an even stronger reason to stay in the world of humans. He’s just met a woman who captivates him like no other. But loving him has proven to be dangerous. And he will do whatever it takes to protect Lydia from the vicious, seductive world of Court—even if doing so requires the ultimate sacrifice: his soul.

I like books by Shona Husk. The words jump from the page and I can’t let go of the characters. Ms Husk has quite a complicated story and I had to keep reading.

Caspian, half fairy, half human, has glimpsed home. It’s within reach. But does he want to go? He’s good at his job of telling the past in objects. How? One touch and he knows the object’s history. Oh and this guy has felt the sting of love and loss. He’s a conundrum rolled into a hot fairy. I liked him immediately and wanted to see him get his HEA.

Then there’s poor Lydia. She holds the key to his happiness. She’s sweet, seductive and everything he wants. She even owns the Calloway House, a former brothel. It’s also a portal. She wants to love him. Wants to be with him. Her struggle is palpable and I loved reading about it. So what’s a girl to do? You’ll have to read and find out.

There are many plot twists and turns. I recommend this book if you’re looking for something a little bit different from a writer who delivers.

Would you still make a wish if you knew the forces that grant them sometimes grant them in unexpected ways?

Each story in this collection contains a character who is about to have his or her wildest dreams come true. The problem is, not all of their dreams are good ones, and not everyone has actually thought through the logistics of their deepest desires.

“Black Magic Wish” feels like a modern day fairy tale. What Jamie’s parents intended for good has turned out be far more complicated than either one of them could have ever imagined. While the premise caught my attention, Madeline’s explanation of what was actually happening to Jamie never quite made sense to me.

“The Amazing Amber Cook” and “Jupiter’s Revenge: An Amber Cook Sequel” work best if they’re read an one continuous plot. Amber’s self-confidence made me like her despite her tendency to steamroll over social conventions, although I would have preferred to hear her explanation for how she planned to make Jupiter’s atmosphere palatable for Shane’s lungs. She weaved around the topic so often I expected it to finally be answered at some point, and I was a little disappointed when the dialogue never revisited to this question.

In “Revenge of the Fortune-Teller,” Sage’s need for a summer job takes her to places she never would have visited otherwise. While her lack of emotional maturity and social awareness made Sage seem much younger than seventeen, the final scene was deliciously creepy and will be stuck in my head for a long time.

Skip ahead and read “Home Grown Flowers” first. This perplexing mystery is perfect for the age group for which it was intended, and it is by far the strongest tale in this anthology. Ms. Beck piqued my interest in the Walker sisters’ unusual secret, and I hope her hints about a possible sequel at the end of it will come to fruition. The Walker sisters and their friends have only scratched the surface of their adventures. In the meantime, consider reading this tale aloud as you huddle around the fireplace!

Supernatural: An Anthology of Magic and Secrets is a terrific choice for late elementary students who are beginning to request more nuanced reading material. The frights are real, and I will be recommending this collection to friends and family members in this age group.

A turbulent frontier province, rotten with corruption and seething with hatred of Rome—a barbarian god whose devotees may include a murderer —a clever and unscrupulous faith healer who knows everyone’s secrets—a boy who struggles toward manhood though stricken with the Sacred Disease: these are the elements in a mystery that Pliny, newly appointed governor of Bithynia, confronts when a high Roman official is found murdered on a desolate hillside, miles from the capital. But as Pliny pursues one baffling lead after another, he is being betrayed where he least expects it: his beautiful wife, neglected and lonely in an alien city, falls desperately in love with a handsome young provincial—an affair which threatens to bring not only pain but ruin to Pliny’s career. All these threads come together in a surprising and tragic finale.

The Bull Slayer proved to be a riveting tale full of suspense and twists and turns around every corner. Pliny’s story, while a bit slow to start, proved to be intriguing with his complex story line. This book has a bit of everything love, tragedy, betrayal, and mystery.

The complexity of this story is something that only history mixed with fiction can provide. It is evident the author is passionate about this time period as well as the story and characters. One thing that I was thankful for was that while in many ways the author stayed true to the time period, they made the language easy to follow. Mr. MacBain even provides definitions for some of the terminology to assist the reader, though it was not necessary because I could follow along easily throughout the story.

One character that truly intrigued me was Pliny’s wife, Calpurnia. In some ways I felt bad for her since her husband frequently left her alone due to his need to travel for business. On the other hand I cannot help but feel that, while she may be educated, she is very naive in many other aspects of life, including love. She easily loses herself when it comes to the opposite sex; I am not sure if this is because of her inexperience or the time period, but it created an interesting story.

I have always enjoyed high suspense historical stories and The Bull Slayer delivered everything I expected plus some.

Two men will give her the ride of her life.

Hot Rods, Book 2

Salome “Sally” Rider is flooring the gas pedal of her pink ’69 Mustang, desperate to outrun the memory of two of her fellow mechanics getting busy with some bar skank on the hood of a classic car. On her custom paint job.

For years her emotions have withered while her lost boys, her Hot Rods, have grown closer than brothers. Maybe some downtime with the Powertools sexperts will help her figure out why Eli and Alanso went looking for some stranger when Sally was waiting right at the ends of their grease-smudged noses.

Sally is dead wrong about what she thought she saw, and Eli “King Cobra” London and the rest of the thoroughly rattled Hot Rods are determined to prove it. They’ll show her in the sexiest possible way that she’s not merely an interchangeable part in their well-oiled machine.

Yet just as Eli gets up the nerve to make a very indecent proposal, a ghost rises from her painful past. Threatening to slam the brakes on their future before they can get it in gear.

Mustang Sally really got my motor running. This is a red hot, steamy sexy book that just about scorched this happy reader’s panties off. Once again, Jane Rylon has knocked my socks off with Mustang Sally, the second book in her fantastic new Hot Rods series.

I loved it! Absolutely no one does polyamorous romance better than Jane Rylon, and this book is just another example of why she is a master at her craft.

So let’s get on with what went down in this book. The story takes off right where book #1, King Cobra, left off. Sally is heartbroken when she stumbles upon her two Hot Rods, Eli and Alonso, getting it on with some chick they’ve picked up. So she takes some time off and visits with the crew from Power Tools (another excellent series from Rylon that you do not want to miss) and gets some advice from her friends about how to handle her men. While she is gone away Eli and Alonso are exploring and enjoying their new relationship. While it is true that the guys are having a lot of fun in the bedroom and everywhere else, they miss Sally and regret that they hurt her. They want another chance with Sally and so do the rest of the Hot Rods crew. The naughty sexy games begin just as soon as their mustang mama gets back home.

OMG! The story really gets racy with Sally’s return. As an avid Rylon fan, I was ready for the fun and games to begin and she definitely did not let me down. The book had lots of kinky games with M/M, M/F/M, M/M/F, some back door action and one heck of a scorching group scene. That one had this reader ready for a cold shower … or a little something else.

As much as I enjoyed all the fun and games that the Hot Rods got up to, the story had a little bit of suspense going on, too. The guys are wanting something more permanent but Sally has been keeping a secret that could ruin their relationship. But Rylon didn’t keep me hanging on too long and I really liked how everything was resolved.

Just so you know, I loved this book. I love the Hot Rods series and I’m eager and ready for the next book. I’m not gonna ruin anyone’s fun, but I’m thinking that I know who is up next. I already know that I’m gonna love it cause Rylon never lets me down. She knows how to write a story that will really get me cranked up and make me happy. This one did and I’m happy to recommend it to those readers who love a racey, scorching story.

What’s better than a knight sweeping you off your feet? Two knights.

Dragon Knights, Book 8

Silla is a healer riding circuit on the border, helping those in need. When she hears the pained cries of a dragon in distress, she comes to his aid, using most of her precious supplies to help the badly injured creature.

The dragon’s knight, Brodie, is fascinated by the woman—the miracle worker—who has come to help his friend. She is both beautiful and kind hearted and he quickly realizes she is his destined mate. And if she is Brodie’s mate, she is Geoff’s as well, for Brodie’s dragon was mated to Geoff’s dragon many years ago.

Geoff doesn’t believe in the tales of love at first sight among knights, but he knows that when either he or Brodie finds a wife, they will share her. Hearing about the dragon’s injury, Geoff and his dragon race to help, only to find the dragon on the mend and Brodie in bed with the most stunning woman Geoff has ever seen.

And besides the vibrations created plus the warm foot soak creates a calming and relaxing effect helping people relieve of stress. pharmacy on line viagra The medicine has generic sildenafil online a significant increase in popularity for its speedy effect. You viagra effects women can connect through laptop with you lover even at places having no mobile network by using a landline phone. Information passes from the brain to the nerve that is being viagra 50mg online pinched. Love at first sight turns out to be real and it strikes them all as they come together and realize that no matter what the obstacles, they are meant to be together. Silla is the missing link that will join their lives and make them a true Lair family.

The Dragon Healer is a wonderful addition to Bianca D’Arc’s tales of the Dragon Knights. This one is meant to be a companion novella to her book, Maiden Flight, and is as well crafted as the rest of the series.

Silla is a healer, travelling the borders of Draconia and helping when and where she can. As an accomplished apothecary, trained at The High Temple of Our Lady of Light, she trained for years before being sent out on her travels to become a journeyman healer. She is five years into her ten year quest, and has earned the respect and gratitude of those she has helped. As she nears the inn at Bayberry Heath, she hears the cry of a creature in pain, and as she rounds the in she sees a startling sight: the men are working a bucket line, pouring water on a great dragon, suffering from a skith attack, and the burns that skith venom causes. Silla is willing to help, and as she does, she meets the dragon’s partner, Sir Broderick, one of the Dragon Knights of Draconia. When Broderick sees her, he is drawn to her as he has never been before to any woman, and believes her to be his mate, and thus also the mate to his partner, Sir Geoff. Silla seems so innocent and shy, Brodie needs to bring her into their world gently, and at first vows to be the complete gentleman, until he receives signs that Silla would be willing to be with him. Silla believes it to be just a one time thing with Brodie, and wants to experience the passion she never felt in her brief and loveless marriage. What Brodie shows her is a passion like none she’s known, and when Geoff arrives, having gotten word of the dragon, Phelan’s injury, he joins them and adds yet another level of heat to the situation. But still, Silla can leave at any time, and she is sure they don’t want her to stay. Will Brodie and Geoff be able to convince Silla she is their one true mate, that one woman meant to own both of their hearts? When Silla says she can hear Phelan and his mate Quila speak in her mind, will she panic and run? Or will there be a happy ever after for these three humans and their two magnificent dragons?

This is filled with romance, passion and, of course, dragons and their handsome and virile knights. The characters are warn, passionate and well developed, and fit the world Ms. D’Arc has put them in. I like that she gave a short reminder about her world of Draconia, and the beings, good and bad, that inhabit it, and kept it from feeling like somewhere I’d seen before.

Silla is a strong and intelligent woman. After a bad experience with her first marriage, she doubts she will ever experience the passion and abandon she has heard other women speak of. She is used to being alone in her travels, and is surprised when she responds to Sir Broderick and his gentle advances. I liked watching Silla discover that she was, in fact, a warm and sensuous woman, and that these knights were able to open her heart to new romance. I loved her inner dialog that she wanted this just once for herself, never realizing that the two men planned on so much more than that with her.

Sir Broderick, or Brodie, is stunned to find that the gentle and shy healer can hear his dragon, Sir Phelan, speak to her. It is this that gives him the first inkling that she may be his mate, and, if so, also Sir Geoff’s as well. But he wants to take things slow, letting Silla get used to him and being intimate with someone. I enjoyed watching as what began as a medical treatment became a very hot and sexy seduction of Silla’s senses and her desires. When Sir Geoff, Brodie’s partner knight, arrives and finds the two together, he decides to see if Silla could, in fact accept them both and join as their mate in truth. I enjoyed watching as Geoff discoveres that love at first sight is not only possible, it is exactly what has happened to all of them.

The Dragon Healer is a hot and very sexy short story, set in the fantasy world of Draconia that Ms. D’Arc has so marvelously created, and a great addition to the series. This is a story with just three characters throughtout, well five if you include Phelan and Quila, the dragons of the knights. I loved the slow seduction that Brodie employed with Silla, and I loved Silla’s courage and determination to take what she wanted, even while she thought it would only be fleeting. This is for all of the dragon lovers out there, or anyone who wants some fantasy and magic in their lives.
