Janet prefers her men submissive, her relationships confined to a club environment. Which is why her attraction to former Navy SEAL Max doesn’t make a lot of sense. There isn’t a submissive bone in his honed, muscular body, suggesting that her interest in him is best indulged as a private fantasy. After a crisis situation reveals a different side of them both, the attraction becomes mutual, explosive and undeniable. They take the plunge, willing to see if the give-and-take of their unexpected relationship can satisfy their deepest desires. Unfortunately, ghosts from their past might take the reins from them both, destroying the balance of power before their love can find a way to tip the scales.

This story is about Janet and Max and how their relationship unfolds. Max is an alpha man who must learn to trust not only his emotions but those around him as well. Janet is one of those people that he must trust. He gives her not only his body but also his heart. As much as Max must trust Janet she must let Max in as well. Both must deal with their past and heal together but will Max’s past tear them apart before they have even begun?

This story took me on a roller coaster ride of emotion. Just when I thought I had the characters all figured out the author threw another twist into the story. From love to hate and those emotions in between, they are all in this book. I adored Janet and Max. They make a great couple and their banter made for a great read. I was not only treated to watching their relationship take form but I also watched Max deal with his past. I enjoyed meeting many of the Navy Seals that are his friends as well as seeing all of the past characters from the previous books. Seeing them all band together as the family that they truly are made for a wonderful read. Joey W. Hill knows how to weave a beautiful story and pull the reader into that world. Once I started this book I was so enraptured with it and hated to put it down for any reason and I hope that we get to visit this world again.

6_4 Cover_WantedStuck in ghostly limbo for 238 years, James Addison can’t move on to an afterlife. After being falsely accused of treason and executed, fate’s cursed him to remain an earth-bound specter until he meets a historian sent to research his past.

Distrustful of fate, Dr. April Branford wants to be taken seriously, but her unique ability to divine history by touching objects seriously compromises her credibility. Her latest assignment? James Addison, a legendary colonial ladies’ man with a shadowy past. Without much to go on, she doesn’t hold out much hope to discover the man behind the legend until the day she accidentally touches him and brings him back to life.

With the help of family and ghosts from James’s past, they unravel the truth. But after falling in love and with time running out, it’s hard for April to believe in fate and a future where forever is now.

Excerpt

April’s digital camera came to life and she switched the setting to playback, scrolling through the photos. She’d taken a bevy of pictures, ones of the hanging tree, the colonial storefronts and historical houses, the front and back of the courthouse. She came across the last picture, the one she’d taken right outside, and then it went back to her older photos. Everything was there but the picture of her guide. She gasped and thumbed frantically through the pictures again.

“What’s wrong, April dear?” Her aunt got up from the chair and came over to her, bringing her cup of tea with her.

“It was here…I mean, the picture is here but he isn’t.” The photo showed part of the lamp post she’d had her guide stand in front of. There was a bright, fuzzy ball of light obscuring part of the gaslight. Could it be a possible reflection off the light and her flash? She’d captured him in the frame, she was positive!

Her aunt looked over her arm at the frame revealing the street along with the courthouse. April didn’t like the knowing smile and twinkle to her aunt’s eye. “Oh, he’s there,” she said, peering up from over her tea cup.

“What do you mean?” She was almost afraid to ask.

“You’ve managed to capture what we call residual paranormal energy. See the spot of fuzzy light in the middle of the picture? You’ve captured an image of a paranormal orb. Welcome to the family, April. You’ve seen your first ghost.”

About the Author: 6_4 AuthorPicLoni Lynne is a stay at home mom, domestic goddess, U.S. Navy Veteran and lover of all things vintage/shabby-chic/Victorian and antique. From china cups and tea sets to lace doilies crocheted by hand (her grandmother made the best) she believes a touch of femininity never goes out of style.

Growing up all over the country she’s been blessed with experiencing a good deal of culture and lifestyles. Much like her personality, she has eclectic tastes in what she likes to read and write. There is no ‘one’ genre in which she settles for.

God and fate have been big influences in her life. Both have taken her to places she never thought she’d be, both in the physical sense and in the spiritual. She wrote brief stories and snippets of life as it happened to her in her youth and, encouraged by her teachers, continued to write. Blessed with a loving supportive family growing up, she was able to explore her options which at times have been put into use in her stories. The Navy–and fate– afforded her the opportunity to meet her Army, “Annapolis-native” husband and team up with him to parent two beautiful daughters.

Years later, her husband gave her the best birthday present ever–a laptop, a membership to Romance Writers of America and a goal to complete a manuscript for submission by her next birthday. She did it. A few years later she was blessed with one of those novels, Wanted: One Ghost, as her debut novel.

Charlie has made his way to Kiloreen, ancestral home of the elves, in his quest to find the Silver Catacombs and the lost magic that lies hidden within. Instead, he finds a branch of the Elven Resistance Movement, a secret underground organization of elves bent on retaking Kiloreen and freeing their people.

If they are willing to stand alongside humans, the elves will be a great help in the struggle against King Richard, but there is still the matter of the lost magic. For if Charlie cannot find it, the war may be lost before ever it has begun.

Charlie’s life has certainly not been easy. He is the illegitimate son of an evil king and also part elf. He is only fourteen years old, but somehow he and his friends have to stop the king and save the world.

Charlie is a kind boy gifted with warrior magic which Charlie sees as a dragon in his head. Charlie keeps a tight rein on the dragon’s chain, unleashing it only in the direst circumstances, which is what sets Charlie apart from others. A few of the other characters make it clear that they would use the power to dominate and bully others, but violence is not Charlie’s way.

Author Kyra Dune has shown Charlie to be a complex character with normal teen angst and his own set of worries and fears. At the same time, he is determined to help his friends by finding the elves’ long lost magic hidden in the Silver Catacombs.

While some of the minor characters are a bit predictable and one-dimensional, most of the main characters are multi-dimensional and fully developed. The conflict between the elves and King Richard is all too real. Charlie’s previous knowledge of elves has been based on the teachings in his old school reflecting a history written by the victors with a strong racial hatred of others. Charlie, however, does not believe what is written, not just because of his own elf blood, but because of his innate sense of justice.

Ms. Dune captures the excitement of a story with extraordinary hurdles and nearly unbelievable odds. I found it difficult to put this book down and in fact, I read it in one sitting as I couldn’t stop until I found out how it would all end. But the ending provided no answers and the last line leaves the reader hungering for more. I have not been able to determine if this work is part of a larger series, but I certainly hope so as I really need to find out what happens to Charlie and his friends.

The most brilliant man in all of Oz is the Scarecrow, who can explicate, cogitate, ruminate, and pontificate with one hand tied behind his stuffed back. But, when a young girl with silver shoes arrives in his backyard, Scarecrow realizes that when it comes to love, he’s only half a man. Scarecrow’s got brains to burn, but can a man of straw ever really know what love feels like?

Have you ever wondered what happens to the supporting characters after the hero saves the day and goes back to his or her own world? What do ordinary scarecrows, tin men and lions do with their lives after the antagonist is defeated?

After Dorothy went back home to Kansas, Scarecrow quickly accumulated several lifetime’s worth of responsibilities, but even all these years later he still can’t stop thinking about her. His witty, warm recollection of the brief time they spent together was mesmerizing even if he did have a tendency to ruminate about certain topics and conversations a little longer than was necessary.

At a few different points we are given subtle hints that all may not well in Oz. It’s difficult to discuss this subplot without giving away spoilers, but I would have liked to see it developed a little further. Will this foreshadowing come to fruition in a future sequel, or was this another example of Scarecrow reading too much into innocent words and gestures?

Either way I will be returning to this story again. Scarecrow’s descriptions of the world he suddenly wakes up in one day are as comical as they are prescient. Exactly how he gained self-awareness is not as important as what he does with his talents once he discovers them.

Scarecrow revisits a classic tale with such enthusiasm that I could easily believe Scarecrow’s version of what really happened when Dorothy came to Oz is the one closest to the truth. Now all we need to do is wait for the Cowardly Lion and Tin Man to weigh in with their points of view!

Seventeen-year-old Cat is living every teenager’s dream: she has her own apartment on the Lower East Side and at night she’s club kid royalty, guarding the velvet rope at some of the hottest clubs in the city. The night with its crazy, frenetic, high-inducing energy—the pulsing beat of the music, the radiant, joyful people and those seductive white lines that can ease all pain—is when Cat truly lives. But her daytime, when real life occurs, is more nightmare than dream. Having spent years suffering her mother’s emotional and physical abuse, and abandoned by her father, Cat is terrified and alone—unable to connect to anyone or anything. But when someone comes along who makes her want to truly live, she’ll need to summon the courage to confront her demons and take control of a life already spinning dangerously out of control.

Cat’s story was riveting. It was filled with such suspense, it had me on the edge of my seat. I do not know which was worse, Cat’s social life or her family life. It was clear from the beginning she was willing to fill the holes left by her parents with anything available including a risky environment and drug usage.

Cat is a character I wanted to hug at times to tell her life can be different and at others shake her until she realized the error of her ways. She was unfortunately dealt a bad hand in life when it came to her parents. It is clear that this is a major force in what has made her act and think the way she does. Unfortunately, it also created a teen who looked for attention and release from the wrong places. Her story brought out a multitude of feelings from me because it was so accurate to how life was during this age for some, as well as reminded me of some people I know that fell victim to this type of outcome or behavior. It definitely left me raw with emotion on multiple occasions, which is a testament of the author’s ability to create mental images with the words.

I found parts of this story tough to read, because of the subject matter. There is vast amounts of reckless behavior including various types of drug usage, underage drinking, underground clubs, and sketchy situations that could have deadly results. While this type of behavior is accurate of the underground club seen in the 80’s, it just felt a little too real at times.

This is a story that will stick with me for a while. I cannot help but wonder who Cat really was, and what happens to her in life. I would not be surprised if this character was based on a real person, because it was clear in the author’s writing that Cat’s story touched her and in turn touched me as well. I would love to read a sequel about Cat’s life and whether or not she was able to truly escape the lifestyle she so naively entered, or if she found a way to lift herself above and become a productive citizen in the world.

A wild weekend in Key West with Team Arapaho is just what Navy SEAL Miguel “Coyote” Cruz needs after a tough mission. Cold beer and hot women. The last thing he expects is to meet a woman who singes his body with the slighted touch and stokes the fire in his guarded heart. Too bad she’s determined not to fall for a military man.

Desiree Holt has consistently scored high in the service of writing excellent works in both novel and novella formats. She is one of my favorite writers. My collection of Ms. Holt’s books continues to grow as I find myself seeking out her imaginative literary art pieces to add to my ever-growing stash of creative favorite reads! She has established herself as one who can conquer multiple venues and still provide entertaining media in many different scenarios. I find myself truly looking forward to her next release even as write this.

Coyote is ready to prowl as he is looking for a cold beer and a warm body, unfortunately he literally spills that beer on his desired conquest, Cori Sutherland.

Having been hurt in her past, Cori does not care for men in the military and she is not a “looking-for-love” type of gal, however she cannot resist the pull she feels with Coyote as he continues to seduce her into his bed. Passion and sparks ignite as these two discover that there is more going on than a simple ‘one-night-stand”. Soon their romance blossoms into a forever type of love. The story leaves us with Coyote returning with Team Arapah to yet another military endeavor and the reader hoping for a future story that continues the love-scenes with our seals and their sweethearts.

I enjoyed this tale and will place it in my favorite folder. It is a difficult job writing a short story that can engage the reader however Ms.Holt seems to pitch home-runs with her descriptive plots. I had some difficulty at first connecting with these characters as I felt that Coyote needed to be more “tough and rough” since he is a SEAL and I thought that Cori was too rude and unforgiving, but then I realized as I got into the story that these characters were in fact individual in their personalities and therefore were lovable in their own way.

I hope to be reading another Desiree Holt book soon and I recommend this story if you need a quick-read that fuels your desire to experience passion and romance.

How to Handle Negative Criticism

Oooooh, this is a touchy subject, but a good one. I’ve seen arguments to read your reviews or not to read your reviews. Angst over people loving your work or hating your work. LOL, I’ve had both, just so you know. Personally, I’m just getting started and I want to hear everything people have to say. I don’t care if it’s good or bad. (Well, I do like to hear the good more!) But bad reviews or critiques can be very useful too. I’m of the mindset that if someone takes the time to write a response to reading one of my books, I’m going to do my darndest to read them. Sometimes people are just being petty, or dumb…yes, I said it. DUMB. When someone tells you in their review that they gave you a low rating because your story was too short…yeah, dumb. But hey, it’s a free world and everyone is entitled to their opinion. You just have to learn to not take it personally. Critiques and reviews are opportunities to improve my craft. Hearing things that people like, dislike, etc, are all chances for me to improve, but…If I take the critique as a personal attack. I can’t learn anything. My critique partner knows she can tear my manuscript apart and that I prefer her to do that versus holding back. Even if I don’t agree with something that someone says. I want the OPPORTUNITY to hear it and decide. Some people call it having a thick skin, but I call it an open mind.
