Thursday Spotlight: Megan Slayer

Thursday Thirteen with Megan Slayer

I thought for today I’d do something a little different and yet similar to others. A Thursday Thirteen post. Thirteen things you might not know about Megan Slayer. Here we go:

13: I can’t tie a cherry stem with my teeth. Okay, I’ve never actually tried, but for some reason it doesn’t really interest me. Sad, I know.

12: I love a good red wine and beer makes me turn up my nose. Yes, I am picky.

11: I have a college degree in Fine Art.

10: I have a tattoo but I am scared to death of needles.

9: I love history, especially the Civil War era, but I doubt I’d ever write a book set in that time period because it’s been done—a lot.

8: I am not a morning person. Get me up before 9 am unless it’s to get the youngling to school and I’ll probably bite your head clean off. Conversely, if I do have to get up, I’m up for the morning. I can’t go back and nap. Dang it.

7: I hate laundry. My wish is for a washing/drying machine that not only washes and dries the clothes, but also folds and puts it away. I’m still waiting.

6: Yes, I still have a blankie. It’s not currently in use as it’s falling apart, but I have it still.

5: I might be short of stature, but as my best friend, Kealie and I proclaim: We are fun-sized.

4: I have a big dog and a little dog. I wanted the German Sheppard. The youngling wanted a wiener dog. We now have both. And yes, they are all best friends.

3: I wanted to be a beautician when I was a kid. I wanted to cut, style and color hair. To this day, I still cut/color my own hair. Can’t find anyone I trust to do it for me. Sad.

2: I can’t drive a stick shift. Don’t know that I want to learn. Meh.

1: I live in oHIo but I’ve never been to the Horseshoe down in Columbus. You’d think almost all Buckeyes would go there at one time. I haven’t made the trip. Yet. And yes, oHIo isn’t a typo. Buckeyes want the rest of the world to say HI to oHIo and come for a visit. Cheesy, but catchy.

When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school.

She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best.

Witch and theatre professional Morag D’Anneville is annoyed when she’s assigned to dress the conservative Vice President as he makes a surprise appearance in his favorite Broadway show. Even more irritating, she has to teach Agent Simon Keane, part of the security detail, the backstage ropes in preparation. A strong attraction flares between them which they both recognize is doomed, and Simon must also fight his superior’s prejudice that Morag’s beliefs make her a threat to the Vice President. When Morag is attacked, Simon’s loyalties are torn between protecting the man he’s sworn to protect, and protecting the woman he loves.

Morag has a fun and interesting job: she works for the theatre. She gets to be part of the production by dressing the stars. When a very important person, oh say, the Vice President of the United States wants to fulfill his dream by being in the production for one night, Morag is slightly less than thrilled.

Morag is a different character than many heroines. She’s a Wiccan, and she’s not afraid to show it. She’s honest, doesn’t keep her feelings back. I liked her instantly, even before she let her guard down. Then there’s the hero, Simon. He’s part of the Secret Service, there to keep and eye out on the Vice President. And his feelings are more than just friendly.

Assumption of Right is a thrill ride. I loved the idea that the career of the heroine centered around the theater. I am always interested in a story with that kind of plot in it. The tension is high, the characters are believable and memorable. All around this is quite an enjoyable story. Ms. Aidan takes the reader on an adventure they soon won’t forgot.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, the theater, and a story that will pull you in and won’t let go until the last page has been turned, then Assumption of Right is a book not to be missed. Why not add this to your reading list?

“Will you marry me?”

Those were the words Jenny Farber had always longed to hear Zack Decker say. But marrying him would have meant leaving the only home she’d ever really known. So instead of following her high school sweetheart to L.A., she stayed on at his family’s ranch, training the horses she adored. Zack never knew about the secret she carried…or how much she still loved him. Until a near-tragedy brought him home again….

Fifteen years ago, Jenny broke Zack’s heart. Seeing her again rekindles all the sweet passion they once shared. But Zack came home to Miners Bluff only to deal with a family crisis—then he’s pulling up stakes again. So why is Jenny making him dream of settling down in the one place he’d vowed to leave forever?

Two kids from dysfunctional families grow up and discover that their families don’t define nor predict what they themselves will become. The road that leads them to that truth and the love they find along the way is what this story is all about.

Parents aren’t perfect and sometimes the choices they make concerning themselves have lasting impact on their children. Kids only see it from their limited perspective but the hurt is just as potent, damaging and long lasting when the influences are negative and/or bitter.

Jenny and Zack are the products of such situations. In Once Upon A Groom, Ms. Smith brings to life the tale of two young lovers who were hurt by their immaturity at dealing with an adult situation. The author makes a reader understand that the love between the two when they were young was real but what tore them a part was just as viable. Through heartfelt dialogue and a potentially tragic course of events, Jenny and Zack reconnect.

Zack’s character is more like the walking wounded. Sure, he’s successful with his chosen career. He worked hard at it and through sheer guts and grit, made it. Inside, the hero is like a puppy curled up, protecting its tender belly. His soft, sentimental and tender feelings he might have for home, the ranch and Jenny are all bundled and woven into a ball of denial so tight, it seemed they would never unravel. He’s a tortured hero, all right, and it’s his fear and anger that acts as his shield through most of the story.

Jenny has found a different way to cope and she’s the lucky one. Whereas Zack’s family life scarred him emotionally, those same people, his mom and dad, took in Jenny and gave her what was missing in her own life. Jenny is a quasi-orphan. Her mom died and her dad coped by running away repeatedly, leaving the heroine at the mercy of disinterested parties. Feelings of abandonment abound and yet Jenny showed a core of steel in refusing to bow under its weight and live her life in a state of self-pity. There’s a lot to admire about the heroine. And the essential thing of all is not exempted with the possible risks and dangers of acquiring injuries, aggravating the patient’s pharmacy australia cialis current condition, or delivering additional devastating blows to the client. It can be hard to get motivated to perform exercises, even knowing the array lowest cost of viagra of health benefits associated with it. By comparing the results of white blood cell count and bacterial culture of urine samples from the initial urine, middle urine, prostate massage fluid generic viagra overnight and the urine after prostate massage, the prostaitis can be divided into: acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis and prostatodynia. Gonstead is the founder of “Foundation Principle” and suggests, “Find the subluxation, accept it where you find it, correct it and leave it cute-n-tiny.com cheapest price on tadalafil alone.” Chiropractor practitioners assess and analyze all the patients in order to get rid of sexual weakness. She’s a survivor. However, the cost of that survival means she’s refused to face some hard truths of her own.

It all comes to a head when Jenny and Zack have to deal with each other for days on end. The revelations arrive in the story like layers on an onion. Every time the author peeled back another level of pain, it revealed a new truth and I got to see the ripple effect on the main characters. As something new gets learned, the author lets a reader deeper and deeper into the anguish that keeps the two lovers apart. The tale is told from both Jenny and Zack’s point of view. By doing that, Ms. Smith allows a reader to see how each step allows for the growth of a matured love, one based on understanding, truth and forgiveness. It’s the catharsis of letting go of old beliefs to face and embrace a true reality that finally breaks the dam that held both Jenny and Zack back.

Once Upon a Groom is a well told story inasmuch as it touches the heart as the two lovers stumble their way back to true love. I wasn’t too keen on the length of time Zack spent with the chip on his shoulder during the course of the book. I got the impression he was stubborn and after reading about his family life, I know where that came from. I just wished it didn’t come across like a broken record for me. As for Jenny’s dad, he’s an idiot. I don’t care how hurt he was when Jenny’s mother died. His neglect doesn’t deserve the level of tolerance and forgiveness that the heroine allowed him. Why didn’t she ever get angry? Why did she wait until the point in the book where she finally, sort of, expressed her feelings? As far as I’m concerned, the author didn’t have her character go far enough. Yes, I understand that the focus is on Jenny and Zack and an author doesn’t want to dilute the story or the romance, which I can appreciate. I’m just really huffy about how no one took that man to task for his inaction.

Once Upon a Groom is an engrossing romance filled with heart, meaty emotional drama and tender touches, sure to keep a reader entertained. It has a good build-up and delivery with effective dialogue between the main and secondary characters to create a sense of community. The author painstakingly created a tale that will touch the nurturer inside that craves to heal. The wonder of how it all will come about keeps the pages turning at a good clip. It’s time well spent and the happily ever after is satisfying.

It takes more than a rock star to rock your world. Sometimes you need a friend.

Bandicoot Cove, Book 3

McKenzie Wood is Australia’s star gossip mag journalist, and she’s just spied the story of a lifetime: rumor-shrouded rock star, Nick Blackthorne—who thinks he’s incognito at Bandicoot Cove resort. The word is Nick’s a sex addict about to come out of the closet, and who better to lure Nick out than her BFF, Aiden Rogers—a pulse-poundingly gorgeous firefighter who is always there when she needs him, no matter the challenge.

Aiden admits it’s pretty damned pathetic that he can rush into burning buildings, but not have the guts to tell McKenzie he’s in love with her. No way can he tell his best friend he’d like to do some seriously sinful things to her, especially since she’s never shown one iota of sexual interest.

Nick looks forward to some “unfamous” downtime in his home country. He’s surprised to find his creative muse stirred—more like brought to rigid attention—by a couple so sexy that all he can think about is the three of them. Together.

Three bodies move together as one, and the music becomes a smoldering beat that rivals the island’s heat. When the truth inevitably comes out, the heat might be enough to save three souls…or end up just another sinner’s lament.

The magic of Bandicoot Cove has one more story to tell and it’s one that made me smile with its sincerity, sweetness and unique storyline.

McKenzie Wood is ready for a serious career in journalism and has just spotted her golden goose in the form of elusive rock star, Nick Blackthorne. If Mac hadn’t been so star-struck and determined, she might have noticed that her best friend, Aiden, only agrees to help because, to him, making Mac happy is worth more than gold.

Aiden is such a sweetheart! He was so easy to fall in love with and I think I would have been furious at McKenzie if she had not been immediately receptive of his attention. So you should stick to shop at drugshop levitra canada prescription your doctor’s advice and you will be fine. Considering how long they’ve been best friends and the fact that everyone around them had already figured out how perfect they were for each other, I had to wonder if anything but the most direct approach would work with McKenzie.

Nick Blackthorne has lived the rock star life for many years and while it may seem that his life is everything he could possibly want it to be, it’s not. When he finally gives Mac the story she thought she wanted it’s not even remotely close to what she had heard or imagined.

Similar to Island Idyll, book 3 in the series, Tropical Sin has a ménage element but does not end with all three parties walking away together. While I’m not a big fan of a ménage that isn’t committed, this story is about more than why these three should or shouldn’t be together as a triad. These are three people who are at a point in their lives where it’s time to either make some changes or stay stuck in a rut. How they go from standing still to moving forward with their lives is a fun, steamy and touching story.

If this is your first trip to Bandicoot Cove, you’re in for a treat. You won’t have to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this novella. All of the books in the series are short reads so if you find yourself wanting to learn more about the other friends you’ll run into on the island don’t hesitate to pick up those books as well. This was a clever writing project by three talented writers and well worth the read!

Bestselling author Kristine Grayson’s fairy tale romances bring the classic stories into the present day, where fairy tale characters must grapple with the complexities of modern life as well as their own destinies.

This time when Sleeping Beauty wakes up, she wants nothing to do with the man who kissed her. Consoling Alex Blackstone, the rejected suitor who is a brilliant magician but inept when it comes to women, falls to modern career woman and lawyer, Nora Barr. Nora now has to deal with Beauty’s evil stepmother, and the discovery that Alex just might be her own personal Prince Charming…

If Mr. Disney and director Ron Howard could team up to update and tweak a live action story of Sleeping Beauty with more twists than a Twizzler, they’d probably choose to base it on Utterly Charming.

Nora is the skeptic who has a dash of the magical believer in her courtesy of her father. It’s that balance of independent woman with a white knight tendency and a strong moral and ethical back bone, and the little girl dreaming of princesses, magic and the power of love hidden inside that made her a delightful heroine. She confounds the hero but delights his sidekick. She annoys the villainess yet challenges her too. Nora also has to deal with her mother and an ex-husband. Add to that the responsibility she takes on when she not only wakes up the sleeping beauty but decides that the men in the story are so daft, only another woman could successfully help the poor girl. Nora had no idea what she was getting herself into.

Blackstone is the hero. He’s not a very hands-on type in this story nor is he a major player. He’s supposed to be but his role for the most part is pretty passive. He is on stage to create some flash and fire and to bewilder and confuse Nora with thoughts of interest and attraction but he is not a mover and shaker of the plot. He sets the story in motion initially but then steps back to let Nora have the spotlight. When he does show a reaction to the heroine, it’s not very dramatic or pointed. It’s more a mystery to me and to the heroine. Blackstone is confused a lot during the story because the man has to face a huge reality – he’s a man of the 21st Century with magic steeped in the past and who has a frozen ideal about Emma, his sleeping beauty, and her place in his life. How he faces his actual wants and needs and what he does to change things was interesting. The hero can be romantic and he enjoys the grand gestures of romance but he has a lot of growing to do when it comes to courting the woman destined to be his.

I actually liked Sancho, Blackstone’s buddy and partner in crime. Being mysterious worked well for his character and I liked his twisted sense of humor. Your male organ plays a vital role in satisfying the female. cialis generika With more blood flowing in and side effects of viagra less flowing out, the arteries in the penis enlarge resulting erection. Safed Musli offers effective treatment for debility, and boosts free viagra prescription energy and strength. Now…think about what your icks.org order generic levitra pants size is now…and what you weigh. In fact, most of the giggles and chuckles I got were from whenever he was in a scene. I also enjoyed his knowing things that Nora and Blackstone were too clueless to notice or realize. I got a greater sense of internal emotional pain from Sancho than I did for any other character. I actually would like to know more about him.

Ealhswith is the villainess. I can’t even begin to figure out how to say that name. It drove me a bit batty. Then again, she drove everyone nuts with her evil plots and tendency to use magic to create chaos at her whim. I never got the impression that people were truly fearful of her — just annoyed, bothered and accustomed to her petulant ways. Sure, she is a force to be reckoned with but for all her machinations and dastardly actions, her character seemed traditional and anti-climactic.

There were other secondary characters, that being Nora’s mom, and the surprise helper for Emma, the catalyst for this tale. The other character I won’t disclose is a cute touch and made Nora’s mother more interesting. I certainly liked the affect it had on the heroine. The Fates put on a brief appearance and once they got to the business at hand, they were alright. The initial scene where everyone first came upon them was unnecessary to the story and it could have been omitted.

The wrap up of the book was pure romantic fairy tale and it embraced the elements that make those stories timeless. There was the amazing revelation about the heroine, the hero’s realization of what true love really is and who has captured his heart, the evil lady vanquished for now, and even one of the cats gets its own kind of purrfect ending. The happily ever after between Nora and Blackstone is as sweet as a vanilla cream puff and just as satisfying.

Utterly Charming is a delightful and endearing tale. For readers who look for stories to read as they cuddle amongst pillows in comfort, and want to enjoy an uncomplicated romance that is entertaining and cute, they will find that and more with Utterly Charming. I credit Ms. Grayson for surprising me with this fresh and fun interpretation of one of my favorite fairy tales.

Army veteran and midwife Autumn Ryan’s spirit is shattered. She just wants to find a cave to hide in. Instead, her father sends her to Sanctuary, where everyone is expectantly waiting for Spring to give birth to the next generation of Sullivan shape-shifting Irish Wolfhounds. As soon as she meets them, Autumn is drawn to Evan and Frank. For the first time in her life, she feels a contentment and peace she’s searched the world over for.

Frank and Evan envied their brothers but discounted the possibility that the last Ryan sibling would be their mate. Then Autumn walks into their furniture-making shop, and all they can think about is claiming their mate. But Autumn has painful secrets haunting her.

Can they heal their woman and find the kind of happiness their brothers have found? Will she stay long enough to help Spring have her babies? Or will she cut and run?

Autumn Healing sees the final twins mated. The Sanctuary series consists of four books and brings together a family of shifters with four sets of twins and a family of the four seasons. The twins are Irish wolfhound shifters who meet siblings Spring, Summer, and Autumn and their brother Winter. Each finds their significant other in the twin shifters who are destined to find a single mate between the two of them.

It has made her afraid of men. Her shifter mates are the perfect ones to help heal the damage but unfortunately, the story moved a little too quickly. While consistent with the rest of the series, with falling instantly in love and feeling the instant pull of destined mates, the story would have been a better read if the story had gone a little slower.

The twins however, were wonderful in the caring, compassion and empathy they showed their mate. This helped to create an engaging story. Overall, however, it’s a good book and a decent read. More, the entire series is recommended.

Experience the Heights of Passion and the Depths of Desire

We’ve all been there—so taken by a lover that you just can’t stop thinking about him. Your imagination runs wild, fueling your fantasies. You feel hot, feverish, out of control. Your only hope of release is to possess and be possessed. In Obsessed: Erotic Romance for Women, Rachel Kramer Bussel has curated a gloriously explicit collection of riveting romance with an edge. Whether just-blooming passions, rekindled sparks, or reinvented relationships, these lovers put the object of their obsession first. From the almost-divorced couple in “Aftershocks,” by Bella Andre, who finally confess their deepest desires during an earthquake to a woman who tells her boyfriend just how much she lusts after another man in Emerald’s “Then,” these lovers push the boundaries of their trust, and are rewarded for taking those risks. Obsessed lovers don’t always do what is rational; sometimes they chase their dreams, as in Kayla Perrin’s “One Night in Paris,” across the world and across the landscape of their lovers’ bodies. Lustful and literary, Obsessed asks just how far you’ll go for the man you love.

Everyone has some type of obsession in their life whether it be the pursuit of a secret fantasy, or something we experience that creates the obsession that always pulses just under the surface. An anthology about obsession is perfect for readers who need or want to feel that they’re not alone in their compulsions. This book covers it.

Silent Treatment by Donna George Storey

This story makes it evident that you do not need a voice to be heard. It was a good tale to begin the anthology but the obsession wasn’t altogether clear. I did enjoy the anonymity of the heroine because it added a mystery to the story. It also allowed me to interpret the heroine the way I would picture her. .Based on the writing, I wasn’t restricted to how the author wanted me to view her heroine.

One Night in Paris by Kayla Perrin

This story showed and even demonstrated the theme of obsession perfectly. I was completely enthralled with the storyline from beginning to end. Not only was Vivian’s obsession with her boss explored, but the author delved into her obsession with the fantasy itself. And let’s face it, we all love a good fantasy now and then.

Concubine by Portia Da Costa

Even though it got of to a slow start, this story had a very interesting ending. I liked the whole “story within a story” aspect of Concubine. Additionally, these characters connected on a deeper level than the previous tales. It created a nice little romantic feeling to it.

Love and Demotion by Logan Belle

This story was all about raw animalistic sexual urges. Cat is tame during the day, but a sex kitten at night. At this point in the anthology, Love and Demotion was my favorite story. It revisited the secret obsession of sleeping with your boss. The author added a twist to the storyline that really entertained me.

Mephisto Waltz by Justine Elyot
This installment was entertaining, especially the way the author used music to build up and develop the relationship. While I am not a classical music fan, I could appreciate the correlation between emotionally connecting a good piece of music to a good piece of man candy. In the end, Lily gets to thoroughly enjoy both.

Then by Emerald

This was by far the most erotic story within the anthology. Valerie may love Chris, but her body sure wants a taste of Hayden. The reality is, even while people are in a monogamous relationship, everyones eye wanders occasionally. We cannot help but appreciate an attractive man. What’s worse for the heroine,Valerie, is this attractive man is constantly being thrown in her face. The sensual tension escalates because she can’t touch him …or can she?

It’s Gotta Be Fate by Jennifer Peters
This story was not only interesting but it set itself apart from the others because of its uniqueness. It encompassed a BDSM theme with an titillating twist. Occasionally, submissives need to know what it is like to dominate someone. By the same token Doms need to experience the feel of someone else’s ties around their wrists. In this story, I get exactly that. What was better, was the hint at maybe a new beginning. This was a light BDSM story, but be prepared because it’s emotionally charged.

Hooked by Ariel Graham
This tale was a bit puzzling to me. One thing that really made it difficult was the characters names being Ricki and Jody. Since both names are interchangeable between males and females, I kept forgetting who the boyfriend was and who the girlfriend was. In spite of that, I really enjoyed Ricki’s obsession. Add in the hook and I had a story that truly captured the theme of obsession. However, I would have liked to have actually seen the obsession be fulfilled in the final scene of the story. Ms. Graham needs to do a sequel.

Some relationships need a little jolt to get back in track. The lack of communication displayed by Celeste and Darren is a trap many marriages fall in. Secret Places by Adele Haze Until we fully trust someone, many of us keep our secrets to ourselves. That is what this story was about. The only drawback about this tale is the author focused too much time and energy on Dan’s music playing. It took away from the the relationship development. Because it is so short, the secret was discovered using a typical technique. but ultimately I did get to see Dan and Marian reach their happily ever after. Best of all for the protagonists, there were minimal secrets going forward.

Loser by Charlotte Stein

This story inspired mixed emotions, but in a good way. One moment I was completely awed by the fact that Mallory would even be attracted to Billy in the first place. The next thing that threw me was when Mallory talked about how good he was in the bedroom. I thought, “Wow,what a catch!” I am sure this is what the author was going for and she certainly succeeded in her goal. Now, I don’t think I will ever again walk past an average person and think what a loser they are.

Here In Between by Kristina Wright

‘Strange mysterious man finds stranded woman on the side of the road’. It certainly sounds more like the beginning of a horror movie than an erotic tale, doesn’t it? Well, not only does that sentence begin this story, it also ignited something deep inside me. You know, the part that wants to be that damsel in distress who is rescued by the knight riding on a magnificent stallion? I just hope my knight is as sexy and charismatic as the hero is in this story.

Spellbound by Garnell Wallace
This story touched me on a few emotional levels. I absolutely loved that the heroine, Kia, was able to find herself but it took her going to Haiti to do it. The nice twist was she found the love of her life while she was trying to connect with a part of herself her family denied. What I liked too was the heroine was put into a situation that was different. It inspired her to really look within for answers. What really spiced up the story were the hot erotic scenes. I’m being deliberately vague because it’s a story worth reading.

Raven’s Flight by Andrea Dale

Forget the girl next door when you can have the sexy Celtic next door. Ciaran is the type of neighbor we all dream of; sexy, intelligent, and likes to walk around shirtless. I also enjoyed the link the tattoos played in Ciaran and the heroine’s journey through life. I appreciate symbolism because I have always felt it adds a touch of depth to a story. The author effectively illustrated that with the use of the tattoos.

Raindrops and Rooftops by Elizabeth Coldwell
This story was a bit more sexual and the focus on obsession was not as heavy as with the previous tales. I like that it added a little bit of lightness to the obsessive side of people. Another thing that intrigued me was Keeley going to New York in search of one thing and ended up finding something completely different. For a lot of people, the scenario plays out just like that in real life. We do not realize what we are looking for until we find it.

Topiary by K.D. Grace

At first, I was a bit confused on what the author of this story was talking about, but after a few chapters, I was able to figure it out. I have heard of vajazzling, but this takes pubic decorating to a completely new level. While this story did fully explore the obsession people can have regarding a woman’s parts, I did not really connect with nor fully appreciate the relationship. It seemed as if Aden only cared about one part of heroine’s anatomy, and not necessarily for her as a person.

I Want to Hold Your Hand by Rachel Kramer Bussel

This story was very romantic. All Shelly really wanted to do was reconnect with her husband. While it had a strong erotic element, the story left a warm and fuzzy feeling inside by the time I finished it. Ron was eventually revealed to be the perfect husband that all husbands should be.

Storm Surge by Teresa Noelle Roberts
This story was a bit difficult for me to read. While if fully captured the obsession of the character, I just felt confused because the obsession almost trumped reality. Additionally, it was another story that I felt the couple did not really connect as deeply with each other as they could have. What came across instead was their total involvement with their mutual obsession.

Undercover Kink by Louisa Harte

This final tale was a great one to end this anthology. We all have some undercover kink somewhere buried inside, and Natalie, the heroine, had to fulfill the kink she has secretly obsessed about for a long time. What was even better is that it even fulfilled a few kinks I don’t think even Natalie realized she had until that moment. It’s the element of discovery that made it so worth it.

This entire anthology really displayed the many forms obsession can take. Though voluminous, this book has stories to match anyone’s needs or curiosity about obsession. Because there are so many different tales, surly everyone who reads this book will find something they love. I did.

As brutal as the undead he hunted, Zacarias De La Cruz was a master executioner. Now his stark and savage journey has ended. For his brothers, Zacarias had walked to the edge of madness, but with centuries as a killing machine now left to the past and without a hunt to define him, Zacarias wonders, for the first time in his life, who he really is.

The answer awaits him back home, in Peru, in the betrayal of a woman who is readying her trap, in the vengeance of an old enemy, in the inevitable consequences of a bloody family legacy-and in the deliverance of a lifemate he never could have imagined…

The dark makes me shiver but the latest story about the Carpathian people makes goose bumps arise for totally different reasons.

First off, this book might be part of a series but it’s a complete standalone. A first time reader won’t be lost because the entire focus is on the relationship between Zacarias and Marguarita. It’s volatile, arousing, annoying and fierce. Actually, that pretty much sums up the hero too.

Zacarias has been through a lot in the centuries he’s been around. He’s different than the other guys in the series and I liked how Ms. Feehan explored that so I’d understand. For fans of the series, they’ll see him act in his own story exactly like he was when he starred as a secondary character in other books. He’s a robot, a warrior, a man without emotion that Mr. Spock could only envy. His dedication to honor and duty has finally been satisfied and he makes the ultimate choice to never ever turn into the things he hunts. He didn’t count on a stubborn woman like the heroine to mess up all his good intentions.

In some books, what the heroine did could have humorous connotations because she derailed his carefully planned agenda. But that is not the way Ms. Feehan writes her heroes and heroines. Zacarias is a throwback to a bygone era where a man’s word was law and unquestioned. He isolated himself so much that when he finally finds a lifemate, he has no idea how to act, how to handle her or how to relate. He knows what he knows and that’s that. Which of course kept me highly entertained and interested.

Marguarita lost her voice in the previous book. The back story is revealed in the normal course of events so there’s no info dump and no confusion for first time readers. In Dark Predator, I got to see the ramifications of that fateful day. Yet, the heroine is one tough cookie. She doesn’t back down, give up or take any guff. Believe it or not, her strength against Zacarias at his most obnoxious is her willingness to give of herself. Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction can be the result of cheapest cialis any cause ranging from physical conditions to psychological problems to lifestyle choices. Nutrients and natural herbs http://deeprootsmag.org/2016/09/23/were-trying-to-unpack-the-mind/ viagra levitra online are the best course of treatment once you have visited a doctor. By doing so she shows him by example how things should be, how they can be, and it’s beautiful, romantic and poignant. Even when she’s terrified and horrified, Marguarita stood up for herself and for her man, much to his consternation and bad temper. However, I respected her strength, and her personality was a perfect balance.

There is the classic battle of the male mind versus the female mind, and with Carpathians, that can be taken literally. For fans of the series, they know there is going to be an epic battle between the hero and the vampires, and Ms. Feehan delivers a gruesome but gripping account of the confrontation between the two. Sometimes the author has quite a few Carpathian brethren show up in her books to spice up a tale and provide that sense of community that I enjoy so well. Except for two brief interludes, this story is solely focuses on Marguarita and Zacarias and the hurdles they have to jump over to have their happily ever after. Part of the conflict is their differences and part is the external conflict. Actually, there are two separate altercations that showcase the brutality and harshness that try to poison and destroy them. No matter which one it is, both are written so well that they can leave a reader shocked, grossed out and one hundred percent riveted.

The only thing that drives me nuts, and it seems to be a consistent thing with Ms. Feehan’s writing, is the repetition. I know that Zacarias thinks himself a monster, that he can do atrocious things, that he has darkness inside him, that he’s an animal, a predator. I get it, I get it. I just wish those filler sentences could be replaced with a more positive agenda or at least a hint of it instead of the hero constantly beating himself up. It does get a bit old but that is what skipping paragraphs is for. The mind has its own fast forward. I just wish I didn’t have to do that because there is so much about the story and the writing that appeals on many levels.

Secondary characters are from the ranch and its environs. They propel the hero into action, some good some bad, but they are all important to the plot. The author used them to good effect.

Dark Predator is another well written, deeply emotional story that pulls a reader in. There is action, suspense, gentle and subtle humor and a hero and heroine worth rooting for. It’s a long book but I was so engrossed in the emotional tug of war between a man who needs to learn what love is, and the woman who is determined to teach him, that the hours flew. It’s another keeper of a romance where love finally does the impossible and saves a man who thought he was unsalvageable. How can readers resist a hook like that? I couldn’t. Read it and find out why.

Will her love break through his armor so he can be whole again?

In June of 1940, Nazis march into Paris, France. Brutality haunts the streets.

Engel VanWolf, the Alpha of a Shunu pack – immortals, who shift into wolf-spirit – has a painful past and the patch on his eyes serves as a reminder of human cruelty. No stranger to injustice, he poses as a Nazi officer to smuggle Jewish orphans from the city. Drawn to a seductive fragrance, chocolate skin, and velvet voice, VanWolf comes upon a human beauty, Alexia, in danger. A hunger long forgotten burns anew inside him.

Alexia Pane is taken in by the shunu pack, and finds communal living isn’t the only thing they share. When danger comes knocking, she’s sent to warn VanWolf, who has been discovered but needs rescuing of her own. As he whisks her to safety, he awakens her dormant passion. It’s not the flames of the city she fears, but the fire he invokes inside her. The closer she gets, the more he pushes her away. And then, she falls into enemy hands.

Can VanWolf save the woman he loves from a ruthless enemy and mend the pain he has caused?

A damsel in distress, really nasty bad guys, and a hero who is haunted by his past… sure you’ve seen this combination before, but the way A. C. Mason stirs the pot, it’s a whole new world full of unexpected turns, poignant characters, and just enough sex to satisfy but keep you wanting more. Set in Paris in 1940, the novella uses the threat of Nazi brutality to provide intense confrontations that keep the reader on edge throughout. The fast pace creates an urgency in the reader to reach the end of the story, to make sure the bad guys don’t win. In the end, it’s near thing.

Alexia Pane is the quintessential ‘40s heroine, courageous yet soft and vulnerable. Her plight is bound up with the fate of the leader of a pack of shapeshifter wolves who befriend her. Engle VanWolf is the flawed but sexy hot hero of the tale. Hurt by past tragedies, maimed and aloof, Engle is a hero you root for to get his happily ever after. Though he constantly rebuffs Alexia, he is drawn to her beauty and the allure of the chocolate damsel always in need of rescue. Their chemistry sizzles as their attraction escalates.

Did I mention the sex in this book is HOT? The smoking hot ménage a quatre scene (F/M/F/M) between various pack members is brief but sensual. And the scenes between Alexia and VanWolf smolder during stolen moments, fanning the flames of their attraction toward an elusive white-hot fire bolt of passion.

From the action filled plot to the charmingly vulnerable characters to the strange but fascinating world of the shapeshifting wolf pack, A. C. Mason’s book is a great introduction to her Wolf-Spirit series. And if you don’t like paranormal romance, just read Chocolate Damsel. It’ll change your mind.
