Raised in isolation on the magic-shrouded Isle of the Moon, five girls became five sisters. Now women, they are ready to claim their places in the world—and perhaps change it forever . . .

FLAME AND FORTUNE

Sorcha knew the mission was dangerous. Leaving the safe grounds of her brother’s kingdom and parlaying with the elves across their border . . . well, treachery seemed at least as likely as true peace. But to support her sister, Sorcha would brave far more than the underhanded ways of the elves. Or so she thought, before she was taken hostage.

Of course, her captors didn’t count on her particular abilities—or on the help of the Woodsman, the mysterious thief who made his home in the forest. He saw the battle from the trees, saw the soldier attacking against incredible odds to save a comrade—and then saw the valiant fighter revealed as Princess Sorcha of Norveshka. He can’t tell if he wants to kidnap her or kiss her. But despite Sorcha’s stubbornness, his inconvenient honor, and a rebellion on the cusp of full war, something burns between them that neither can let go . . .

There’s a touch of my favorite Robin Hood story paralleled in How to Love Your Elf, and I really enjoyed how Ms. Sparks took that storytelling theme and bumped it up a notch with significant daring-do and a long-awaited romance for Sorcha, the heroine.

The story opens with the heroine learning how to defend herself. Her character isn’t one who is comfortable with violence but learning to protect herself is very important. She has a skill like her sisters but there’s a huge difference that I didn’t expect. Her gift is relatively ignored but by choice. She had a scare when she was a kid and I can certainly understand her extreme hesitancy to utilize her gift. I was actually pretty frustrated by that in the beginning of the story but as time went on, I saw the author develop a different kind of strength for the heroine. It comes from Sorcha’s heart and when it came for her time in the spotlight, I liked the author’s choice.

If you have been following the series, you understand the meaning of the stones. Sorcha was thrown for a bit because they said one thing but her heart told her another. What does she do? You’ll have to read it to find out but I figured out the secret much earlier than the heroine.

There is just the right amount of suspense when the heroine is in jeopardy. The bad guys are what I come to expect and are written effectively and convincingly. More is learned about the Circle of Five and my favorite character to despise, The Chameleon, made an appearance. The plot thickens.

The secondary cast of characters supported the hero and heroine but I didn’t find them distracting. That means that I consider How to Love Your Elf as a possible standalone read. There are references to the previous stories because they are Sorcha’s sisters, but the focus of this novel is Sorcha and The Woodsman.

The scenes when the hero and heroine finally enjoy the release of all that pent-up passion for each other were well written and enjoyable.

What happened to the evil queen was something I did not expect. However, the ritual for one of the characters totally makes what happened more believable. What happens for the ritual, the why of it and the history completely fascinated me. I was impressed with its originality.

All in all, How to Love Your Elf is a really good read. It’s fun, absolutely entertaining and a great addition to the series. It has a wonderful happy ever after too. What it also has is foreshadowing for the next book in the series. Maeve has grown up during the telling of her sisters’ previous adventures and romances, and it looks like she’s ready for her turn. Ms. Sparks has set it up perfectly because there is no way I want to miss her story, especially since I suspect my favorite dog character is going to finally come out of the background and into the spotlight. I can’t wait!

This was due to india pharmacy viagra http://robertrobb.com/2018/05/page/2/ the fact that there was more to see. A strange disappearance… a shocking accusation… a doctor’s fight for the truth.

When Dr. Eric Darcy is suspected of killing his former girlfriend, the young widowed physician teams with his PI sister-in-law to clear his name. The investigation gains even more urgency when he learns that his long-lost lover may have given birth to his child. Can Eric find out what happened to the missing woman before danger closes in on a daughter who might be his?

Sometimes when so many things are happening, you are positive not another thing could happen and then…it does. Dr. Darcy has lost his wife to cancer, has half of his family living in his house, has an excellent busy practice and then someone shows up and accuses him of killing an acquaintance who was just a fling from long ago, someone who might have been pregnant. Surely not.

Amongst all of this going on, Jacqueline Diamond created a pretty large group of characters. One that she somehow kept defined by giving each of them their own distinct personalities. With this cast of characters, I never once turned back the page to do the “now who is this” thing.

Not only did she create quite a story but within this mystery she created a little humor, a little whimsy and yet kept the story tight and tense when it should be. This story is described as possibly a romantic mystery, but I disagree. I am not a romance fan and there might have been a little sweet romance here, but the emphasis was on the mystery and the suspense. That’s why I enjoyed it so much. A lot of story in a very short number of pages. Just a great read.

Janelle and Janiece were such sweet girls. I enjoyed seeing how they reacted to their unexpected time travel and how they adapted to life before computers, smartphones, or any of the other conveniences of our modern age. There was so much fodder here for funny misunderstandings or for either of these characters to be mystified by 1980s technology like VCRs. I’d sure be interested in reading a sequel in which this stuff is explored if the author is ever interested in writing it.

This story would have benefited from having more details included in it. For example, the narrator never really explained how Janiece and Janelle managed to accidentally travel back into time. They bumped their heads together, but nothing else was mentioned about how a small accident could have had such a huge consequences. Their conversations with their grandmother about life in the 1980s was similarly brushed over. I saw so much potential in scenes like these. If only the narrator had described exactly what happened in them.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about it had to do with how many different age groups it could appeal to. There were sections of it that would be perfect for children who are just learning how to read chapter books, and there were other sections that I thought would appeal to readers several years older than that. This seems like something that would be a great choice for a family, daycare, or other group of listeners that has both younger and older elementary students in it.

Meeting Grandmom should be read by anyone who has ever wondered what their parents’ childhoods were really like.

Spinning Windows into Doors

Veins are trees. Sprigs shimmer matte Without their foliage.

Invisible ceilings Mark the only barrier Between the shrubs and waves.

Rushes spiral, Slipping into cores, Ripped out stains of the sky.

A sun is a fist In a drawing’s window. Can’t punch through the waves, So it sneaks where water incinerates flesh.

But wait for the canvas, Front and center, Shooting past veins, To the pains of this clerestory.

It’s bleached white With eyes carved of wood and stone. Lips transparent, But deep violet. They restrict the pen Of one who would paint the world In gems and marble-cased grasses.

Emerald green would envelope the drawing, And no one would see the panes.

How could someone Try to resist A face with star flowers Around one eye, Decorated with time above the other?

Does sand permeate the window? Could it shut down time, And freeze the halves of pink chrysanthemums To shatter its own cheeks?

An image without purpose, Must spin the window Into a door.

Introverted teacher versus unstoppable violinist. She wants to be alone. He wants her heart. Let the games begin…

After the unexpected death of her musician brother, third-grade teacher Adara buries her grief, avoids all music and vows to exist without attachments. Social solitude works perfectly…until she’s forced to share her classroom with the new music mentor, a man who rattles her carefully constructed cage and sparks emotions she prefers to keep chained.

In this article, we will suggest some health tips viagra price in india to CEOs, managers and business leaders which would help them do this. As it cialis online purchase turns out, the reasons for less mutation are twofold. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, canadian viagra pills a chiropractic program is established.
Always up for a challenge, violinist Garret is a master of patience and persistence, and the minute he meets Adara, he knows what he wants. Her sharp humor and haunted eyes inspire him in a way he’s never felt before. He makes it his mission to chip through her shields and breathe her back to life—no matter how hard she resists.

Even as Adara struggles to keep Garret at a distance with each clash of wills, each smile he coaxes, each kiss he steals, her resistance crumbles. But when the past catches up with them both, they will discover that some promises are meant to be broken…and others are worth risking everything for.

Grief is powerful. Like takes prisoners and holds them in darkness powerful. For Adara, losing her brother, the embodiment of joy and sunshine, was practically debilitating. She was alive but not living. It would take someone with a eye to see beyond her walls and a boat load of both patience and persistence to knock them down for her. Because that’s what she needed. Grief had built some seemingly impenetrable barriers. Who knew a swashbuckling band geek with an amazing musical talent would not only crack those walls, he would have her waiving the surrender flag to the rockin’ beat of Metallica’s Enter Sandman. You’ll want to read the book to get that reference.

I can honestly say I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. I read the prequel, Every Kiss, because I knew it would be short and I wanted a sample of the writer’s voice since I had requested Book 3, Every Breath, to read and review. That’s when I first met Adara. Just six months out from losing her beloved brother to the most horrible disease of cancer. She was closed off, hard to talk to, hard to like for this reader but I was mostly reading to get a feel for Gia and Ian who are the stars of Book 3. I knew that Adara and someone named Garrett were the feature in the first full length book so I was curious to see who could possibly pull her back from the abyss.

Only someone like Garrett Ambrose could have managed the nearly impossible. He stayed. He annoyed and chipped away at her every excuse and every defense. Bless him, he’s adorable and I had to keep reading to see what he would do or say that kept her in the present rather than allowing her to mourn the past. He’s very clever and I was thankful he didn’t give up on her.

The story isn’t completely focused on Garrett winning Adara over. He’s come home from a music tour but trouble followed him. That was an interesting side story that had me on the edge of my seat when it took a very heart wrenching turn.

Ms. Burright’s writing voice is excellent and I’m so very glad I didn’t give up on Adara because I can see her being important in the next book. I look forward to reading it to find out.

Amee Colburn wants to leave the past behind by hiking up the highest peak of the Smoky Mountains, but there’s a storm of attraction waiting for her at the top. Pierce Levy, the hot mountain man who owns the rustic camp she checks into, is dealing with a salacious error that only magnifies the carnal pull between them. Time spent with Pierce is challenging—not to mention dangerous and compelling—both on the trail and in a more intimate setting. For Amee, outdoor adventure has never been so stimulating.

Amee climbed the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains, both to prove she could, but also to try for some much needed alone-time. She needed to remind herself she was independent, self sufficient; that the hurt and pain she left behind wasn’t going to define her. She hadn’t expected the hard punch of attraction to hit her all the way up the top of the mountain, but Pierce knocked her off her feet nevertheless. Will this be a passing fling, or something more stable?

I enjoyed this quick read. The author did an amazing job setting the scene and certainly whet my appetite to google some pictures of the Appalachians. I find in this day and age the temptation to throw technology out the window and enjoy a simpler life and be less connected twenty-four seven is a real thing. Following Amee as she did exactly this was a delight and something I could really empathise with. Readers looking for a slow build up in the chemistry and intimacy between Amee and Pierce won’t find that here. They each are extremely attracted to the other and not afraid to reach out for what they want. While I, personally, would have preferred a little more time to get to know each of the characters I felt their chemistry and connection was written strongly and believably enough to compensate for their near insta-lust.

The sex was hot and explicitly written – readers looking for a sensual and steamy read should find this definitely fits the bill. I was pleased though that after their initial intimacy things didn’t get weird or stilted between them. I enjoyed this fact this had a Happy For Now ending and that both Pierce and Amee clearly found what they were each looking for, for right now.

Relatable and sexy, this short story is a great, quick read. Disconnect your brain, grab a large, cold drink and enjoy the steamy sensuality between Amee and Pierce as they each trust and reach out to grab what they both want. A fun and sexy read.

Gouster Girl is the coming of age, risky affair between Valerie Davis a cute black girl from the South Side of Chicago and nerdy white Jeffrey Stark.

While the two are somewhat smitten they are late to realize that falling in love on Chicago’s South Side in 1963 is a highly risky business for an interracial couple.

Opportunities arise for both of them to help one another out of tough fixes—he saves her from attack at an all-white amusement park and she saves him from injury in a racial brawl at their high school. But as their romance becomes more serious, so do the racial dangers. White police target Valerie as a prostitute and black gang members see Jeffrey as trying to sexually exploit a black girl. Seemingly inevitably, the blossoming romance collides head on with the realities of Northern-style racism one hot summer afternoon at one of Chicago’s most beautiful Lake Michigan beaches, when a racial protest turns ugly, confronting the couple with terrible choices.

Her expression had turned serious. “Okay, so I have a question for you. Why did you make me look so light in your drawing? I look almost like a white girl with a tan.”

Hmmm, she would question me on that. I had wrestled, somewhere just barely in my consciousness, about how dark to shade her. I had opted to go easy, sensing that lighter was more desired and desirable. But how to say that, without knowing the “right” answer?

“I guess I didn’t want to make you look too dark,” I started. She continued staring at me. No smirk. No grin. This was a big deal. “I thought you might be insulted.”

“So, you think I’d rather look more like a white girl than a Negro girl?”

“I’m not really sure,” I stammered. “I didn’t think about it a whole lot. I just wanted something you might like enough to want to talk to me. I’m not really much of an artist.”

“You’re not too bad, white boy.” The smirk was back. I felt like I had passed some kind of test.

I tried to take control of the conversation. “One more thing for you,” I said. “Are you an Ivy Leaguer or a gouster? You act and talk like an Ivy Leaguer. But when you hang out with guys like Booker, I’m thinking maybe you’re a gouster.” I wanted to mention Tyrone, but something told me that should wait as well.

“What do you think, white boy?”

Now it was my chance to be the wise guy. “Maybe I’ll just call you ‘gouster girl.’ You call me ‘white boy’ and I call you ‘gouster girl.’ How’s that?”

“Shee-it, white boy. Gonna hit you upside yo head and kick yo white ass all the way to 63rd Street, you call me a gousta one mo time.” She smiled slightly, as if she was impressed with her own cleverness.

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d Follow On Social Media

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

I’ve been looking forward to this topic for weeks! There are so many characters to choose from that I had trouble narrowing my list down to only ten people.

1. Sherlock Holmes

Imagine all of the fun he’d have figuring out who the bots and sock puppets were! Once he’d found some genuine people to follow, I think Sherlock would enjoy getting to know them (and potentially discovering their secrets) even more. Facebook seems like it would be his social media platform of choice if he wasn’t still using Myspace.

2. Diana Barry from L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables Series

Diana seems like the sort of person who would love Pinterest for the recipe collections alone. Maybe she’d even convince Anne to sign up, too.

3. James Bond

His Tinder and OkCupid accounts would be incredibly flirtatious.

His LinkedIn account would not be, although the writing style would be so similar that anyone who had accounts on all of these sites would recognize him even before they looked at his stylish photos.

4. Starr Carter from Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give

Her tweets could go viral within a few hours. I suspect she’d keep her Instagram and Snapchat pages private, though, so that she’d have somewhere to go to talk about things she didn’t want the local news reporting on.

5. Fred and George Weasley

Their Instagram stories and Snapchats about all of the pranks they pulled would be legendary. We’d just have to make sure their parents never found out they had accounts on these sites.

6. Bigfoot

Somehow his Facebook account would acquire thousands of followers despite the fact that he rarely if ever would actually update it.

7. Jane Eyre

Imagine all of the long, rambling updates she’d leave on LiveJournal. I’d like to think she’d have an anonymous Twitter account, too, to document the evidence of the ghost that she thought might be haunting her new employer’s house.

8. Albus Dumbledore

His Youtube videos would be a minimum of thirty minutes long. If you aced the quiz at the end, you might get rewarded with some wizardly sweets.

9. Moby Dick

His Instagram feed would be completely devoid of hashtags or or explanations of his oceanic home. All we’d see would be photos of places few humans have ever seen before.

10. The Cat in the Hat

Would he occasionally troll people on every social media platform he could find? Yes. Would I find his status updates amusing anyway? Yes.
