A conquering hero…

Cormac Maclean would rather read than rampage, but his fearsome warlord father demands that he prove himself in war. Cormac chooses what he thinks is an easy target, only to encounter a fiery Highland lass leading a doomed rebellion and swearing revenge on him.

Meets an unconquerable heroine…

Jyne Cambell is not about to give up her castle without a fight, even though her forces are far outnumbered. She’s proud, hot-blooded and hot-tempered, and Cormac falls for her hard.

It’s going to take all of Cormac’s ingenuity to get Jyne to surrender gracefully-both to his sword and to his heart…

When “The World is too much with…” me, I escape in a book. This time I go to the Highlands of Scotland, where the heroine is lost in a fog and stuck in a bog. I identify with her immediately and go on an amazing adventure. I invite your to do the same.

Jyne Campbell is dragged from the bog by the Rebel who is running from a monk. The errant rescuer holds her close to warm her until her powerful, threatening brother, Laird of the Campbell clan arrives. Jyne never expects to see her unknown rescuer again—how mistaken she is. He shows up at her Kinoch Abbey in a dual way that changes Jyne’s life. She changes from the naïve, sheltered “runt of the litter” of the sixteen Campbell children to a woman claiming her rights against her powerful brother.

This, her very first adventure, is rather like a rite of passage that had me totally involved reading like mad to see what-on-earth would happen next.

Cormac MacLean, the Rebel, has no claim to a title. He is a survivor who has a checkered past that is incredible. His father Red Rex is despicable beyond belief. Cormac feels there is no way to escape him. He knows how evil his father is; yet, with his intelligence, he strives to become someone his father recognizes as worthy. When he is finally forced to make a choice between his father and the life he wants, the reader is favored with an ominous scene that sends the heart racing.

Cormac’s duel relationship with Jyne gives the reader’s senses a feast. Whether in a totally dark, caved in tunnel or working in cahoots to control the actions of Red Rex’s men, these two grow from strength to strength.

The sub plots in the story enrich the main plot and fit in perfectly, with some intriguing surprises.

Amanda Forester’s writing style is so smooth and captivating that one feels as if he or she is in the moment with the characters. A thread of humor runs through the often-scary story; yet she also, quite subtly, offers life lessons that have rung true through the ages, such as “Heaven is not for the good but for the forgiven.” and “God grants grace to the penitent.”  Highly recommended.

Cassandra Wilson, angel and first-year nurse, spends her days helping other people. Day after day. Life after life. An innocent night out with Fraser, a university junior and varsity hockey player, leads to something more serious and Cassie begins to experience feelings she’s been trying to avoid. But the sudden discovery—by both herself and Fraser—that Fraser is a witch, combined with his need to please everyone around him, poses a challenge to the couple’s happily ever after.

Romance is not part of Cassie’s plan.

Cassie has no intention of getting into a serious relationship unless she finds another angel. Cassie believes her mother’s union with a human and her birth were the root of the depression that consumed her mother. It is a heavy burden to carry. As I read, I wondered if there were other angels Cassie could talk to. She knew there were angels working in the hospital. Could she have asked them about her mother’s experience? Cassie has convinced herself that she is content with the life she’s chosen, but I wasn’t so sure. She’s an intelligent, sweet young woman, but she seemed sad to me. Will Cassie’s ban on romance do more damage than good?

I liked Fraser immediately. He’s friendly, caring, and handsome, and he wiggles his way into Cassie’s heart before she knows what’s happening. Fraser and Cassie have the potential to be a great couple. When Cassie figures out that Fraser is a witch, he doesn’t take the news well and their budding romance is derailed. Fraser doesn’t automatically accept everything Cassie tells him. His entire world has changed, and he needs time to process that. I find that very realistic. When Fraser’s world is rocked by another change, will he and Cassie find strength in each other, or let their chance at love slip away?

I would really like to know more about Cassie and Fraser’s world and the rules that govern it. Are there lots of angels and witches or are they rare? Do angels and witches cooperate with each other often? Are there other supernatural creatures? What sort of training do angels and witches go through as they learn to control their powers? While Ms. Copper provides enough information to make this story satisfying, I felt like I’d just skimmed the surface, and I was left wanting to know more.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read Love Supernaturally. It is a fun and quick story sure to delight romance fans.

This book was another great chapter in The Skulls series. I felt it was a fairly sweet story that involved most of the Skulls family. It was lower on the suspense than I’ve come to expect from Sam Crescent, but more than made up for it with the romance aspect.

The plot was strong, multi layered, and well written. The main story begins with Baker finally letting go of his past and ready to move on with Millie. At last. The moment was a long time coming and nearly too late since he has been pushing Millie away for so long. That’s where the romance came in because alpha Baker had to convince a past burnt Millie that she wasn’t going to be his second place. I really liked Millie for standing up and making her feelings clear. She had her own sould searching to do about her past, her family and her feelings about the club. I loved the dramatics. Also, I loved how the author caught the readers up with our other favorite Skulls couples. Especially Lash and Angel, and setting up more of a relationship between Sally and Steven. It’s still looking good for The Skulls future books.

As usual, I loved the main couple, Baker and Millie. The characters in this series have all taken on a life of their own and I have adored them all. The writing was clean and concise with a super fast flow to the story. To top it all off there was some trouble that came up near the end of the story. All in all it was a sexy and sweet and suspenseful combination that worked perfectly. I definitely can’t wait to see what happens next in the series.

A moment of panic while trapped in the elevator leads to a spark neither expected. Getting out is the least of the challenges they’ll face if they want to try to put their differences aside and find out if love is possible between a city boy and a country boy.

Nick and Sandy had been friends through high school until Nick got in a fight to defend Sandy and ended up coming out of the closet. Hurting and still shocked by what he’d done, Nick had snapped at Sandy and the two hadn’t spoken at all in the years since then. When they bump into each other will they both finally be able to reconnect and forget the past?

I enjoyed this lighthearted romance. I was really pleased when Nick and Sandy patched up their friendship very early on in the story. While that aspect of the plot – the fight, their silence with each other etc – felt a little forced and clichéd to me, having them both talk through it all at the beginning was a good way to put that back in the past where I felt it belonged and allow Nick and Sandy to start fresh again. I also really liked the pacing of the story. The chemistry grew between them with a good intensity and I was pleased that we as readers were shown who Nick and Sandy were as characters before they both jumped into bed together.

There were a few twists in the plot (around one of Nick’s friends, Hank, in particular!) that I really enjoyed and found surprising. I also found the sex refreshingly sweet. Nick might be a country boy and a working farm hand, but I loved how very sensitive and sweet he could be with Sandy. I felt the author did a great job in making both Nick and Sandy’s characters realistic and manly without being over-the-top macho or too alpha-male, which is something I do grow tired of as a reader.

I found this to be a heart-warming and emotional story with engaging characters and a few surprises along the way that made this a deeply enjoyable read for me. A lovely book I can strongly recommend to any reader.

When her father insists that she take Bryan’s case, she is anything but pleased. Bryan doesn’t seem to take anything seriously, including the suspicions of murder. Can Ivy get him to see the gravity of the situation before it is too late?

Ivy is a very intelligent and pioneering spirit. She’s had to work extremely hard to achieve her goal of being a barrister, especially at this time in history. Her passion for the law and the work she does shines through in her conversations with others. Despite her zeal for her career, Ivy doesn’t command much respect. She keeps insisting she’s a barrister, but when the situation begins to feel hopeless, Ivy wilts and the glimmers of her new-found confidence fade away. She gets pushed around and distracted quite a bit by the men in her life throughout the story, especially by Bryan. She can’t be blamed for falling in love, and I understand that Ivy would want to relax and have some fun after leading very serious life. However, Bryan is suspected of murder, and I felt that she needed to be more forceful in making Bryan see how serious the situation was.

Bryan made an interesting hero. He seems like a typical playboy at first, and he sets out to distract Ivy from her purpose by dragging her to multiple parties. However, I do see quite a bit of change in Bryan as the story progresses. Underneath Bryan’s flippant exterior lies a more serious man who is masking his pain by playing a role. I think his character had more potential that I would have liked to explore in greater depth.

I enjoyed reading Love and the Pursuit of Law. It is a quick and entertaining read easily read in one sitting. Readers looking to take a spin through the Jazz Age might want give this romance a try.

He didn’t intend to have a one-night stand with the Vegas Virgin, but now he can’t get her out of his head. And he can’t keep living this lie.

With Jase back at the tables in Vegas, Sabrina has one goal: stay away from the handsome gambler before he melts her career—and her heart.

I’ve always wanted to go to Las Vegas and I always thought it would be cool to be an author. I wish I was Sabrina Smith, the heroine in this story, just to experience a day in her life with the hero, Jase Reeves. How awesome would that be? To be an author like Sabrina and date an amazing card player like Jase in Las Vegas!

This book is part of a trilogy, however it can stand on its own. I haven’t read the other two books before this one but I am seriously considering getting them to read. If Jase’s brothers are anywhere as near as HOT as Jase was then I need to read their stories. I saw a glimpse of the humor among the three siblings and would love to read more of that brotherly bantering that made me laugh out loud.

The chemistry between Sabrina and Jase is quite spicy. The book was listed as sensual but the love scenes between Sabrina and Jase were borderline spicy/hot. Which, when considering the setting is Las Vegas, what can one expect? I thought it worked perfect because Sabrina Smith was labeled the moniker “Vegas Virgin” by a local shock jock and Jase was labeled the typical player. Their relationship held true to the stereotype “hot Vegas nights”.

Sabrina and Jase have similar hurts from their own childhoods to overcome before their relationship can fully have that happily ever after ending. I expected Sabrina to have been the more logical one to get past her childhood trauma since she became famous for writing self-help books. Yet, how could she with her mother still around to inflict the craziness. In fact, I would have given this book 5 stars if not for the annoyance of Sabrina’s mother. Sabrina’s mother irritated me beyond belief – a major frustration. Fortunately the mother was redeemed before the ending and Sabrina and Jase helped each other to see the future was with each other.

What the Gambler Risks by Kristina Knight was really a very good romance story. Jase was irresistible and like I said before, I am definitely intrigued to read the other two books about Jases’s brothers to see how their romance compares. I’m glad I read this story and I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a fun seductive read.

Revenge is a Dish

Maurice has landed a dream job, chef for a rich couple on their yacht. The wife has carnal desires for him. Maurice has some carnal desires of his own.

Who would have imagined that thoughts could be this scary?

The main character in “Wrathbone” was a man named Henry who was dangerously obsessed with the strange circumstances surrounding the death of President Lincoln. What I liked the most about him was how much time he spent talking about his theories about what really happened when the president died and what he wished he would have done differently that day. I can’t say much else about this part of the plot without giving away spoilers, but it sure did bring out a chilling side to the main character’s life. It was also interesting to compare the logical and supernatural explanations for why Henry behaved the way he did. There was plenty of evidence for both interpretations of what was going on, so I was able to pick the one I personally thought made for a better story.

One of the first things I noticed about Bradley in “The Only Good Lawyer” was how determined he was to fight for the accused murdered he was defending. This character had a strong desire to win that shaped so many different parts of his personality. I was also surprised by how meekly he reacted to the voodoo priest who was called to the stand by the prosecution. It wasn’t something I was expecting from him at all, but that scene made me incredibly curious to find out what actually happened the night the victim died and if Bradley’s assumptions about what going on with the priest were true. This was my favourite tale in the collection.

Dorian, the main character in “Dorian’s Mirror,” wasn’t an easy guy to like at all. His arrogance and narcissism gave me such a negative first impression of him that I struggled to stay interested in his life. It would have been nice if the narrator’s description of him had included positive or even neutral aspects to it as well to balance Dorian out a bit. With that being said, I enjoyed seeing how he reacted to all of the bizarre things that began happening to him. They were so out of the ordinary that his horrified responses made perfect sense.

The relationship between a man and his parrot is like nothing else on earth. In “For the Birds,” Nev’s bond with his bird, Joji, is tested by a violent robbery in ways that have to be read to be believed. The dialogue was by far my favorite part of their home invasion. I never would have guessed that a parrot spoke and understood as many different words as Joji did. Including a non-human character who was this talkative was such a creative decision.

“Revenge Is a Dish” followed a man named Maurice after he made the biggest mistake of his career by accepting his dream job as a chef on a yacht and then having an affair with the boss’ wife. The best part of this one was how the plot kept on moving every time I was sure I’d reached the end. There were a lot of grisly surprises tucked into it, and that made it a great deal of fun to read.

I’d recommend Wrathbone and Other Stories to anyone who is in the mood for something truly frightening.

This is an in-depth story with unforgettable characters and believable circumstances. After finishing this novel, I felt as though I had made a room full of new friends and found a little extra meaning to living life itself. This is a debut novel for author Kathy Weyer, which amazes me further. Stitches does not read like a book written by a novice writer, but rather one written by one of the greats.

Is it without its flaws? No, unfortunately it has many editing errors, simple ones that even a novice proofreader should have caught and fixed before sending it to print. Considering the high quality of writing and storytelling, these errors were disappointing. I would have gladly elevated this to a “Best Book” status if it were not for the editing mishaps.

Stitches is one of those rare books I am sure to find myself reading again before too long. And I am genuinely excited to see what comes next from this author! If you’ve ever read and loved best-selling author Jacqueline Susann of “Valley of the Dolls” and “Once Is Not Enough” fame, you are going to adore the work of Kathy Weyer. This is definitely a sexy story to my mind. Sandy is not ashamed to take what he wants and has a really impressive amount of sex toys and porn dvds – I found it refreshing that he was perfectly able to satisfy himself and completely open and honest about his sexual cravings. I enjoyed how the story was completely sexy with just Sandy alone – even before Pe-Ben was added in and the pleasure became mutual between the men. I also found myself quite intrigued by Morpheus’ character and would be interested to see a story revolving around him, too.

I found this to be a fun, lighthearted and excellent quick read. I loved the characters of Sandy and Pe-Ben and loved watching them come together and create a brilliant relationship together. A great, easy read that I can happily recommend.

When she gets a call to check out a home in Waukesha, Wisconsin, it’s the last place she thinks Michael would contact her. Sloane is dead wrong.

Haunted houses don’t sell well, but Sloane isn’t slogging them for the money. No, she’s on a single-minded, desperate quest to track down her dead fiancé’s ghost and open her eyes to the supernatural. She is not letting death part her from the love of her life, and her travel to find him is nail-bitingly good. I was zooming through the pages from start to finish.

Not only did this story have ghosts, it also had a mystery to solve, the truth behind why so many ghosts are inside one home. I guessed who was at fault in the first third to half of the book, but this was not a problem. The real mystery and interest to the book is in the twist on how they did it, and the history behind their criminal activity. This was fascinating to uncover and completely unexpected. This discovery and the bonds between ghosts and the human characters kept me wondering which side would win and survive to see another book, and whether the ghosts would ever be at peace.

Sloane as a character starts one-dimensional. She has one need and lets little else get in her way. This makes her foolish, and she jumps into bad situations too quickly. It’s also realistic. She is in the depths of mourning for the man she grew close to and, after his death, convinced herself was perfect.

Sloane’s partner in solving crime, Jonah, is an FBI agent and so not always at hand to help her out of her emotional crisis, and this story’s crisis. However, he is loyal, patient, clever and comes across as very attractive. The problem? She’s not only hung up on her dead ex, but Jonah is also her ex’s best friend. This creates a romantic crisis to go along with the plot’s tumultuous ride through a murder mystery. (Be warned: violence and neglect are explored in the telling of the murders and could cause upset.)

In terms of sexual content, the only fully fulfilled sexual acts are with the dead romantic interest, Michael, in a kind of alternate reality which Sloane reaches during her darkest moments. I found that it was written well but I could not immerse myself in the story as it was written as if it was between a memory and the present, as well as with a person who is now dead, which makes the whole process somewhat odd.

However, the new, dreamy FBI agent is clamouring for Sloane as much as she is in denial over enjoying his company and I foresee a sequel with as much thrilling action and fulfilling mystery as this book, only with the addition of blisteringly hot trysts with a new partner. Bring it on!
